Los Vendidos, Produced by Luis Valdez Essay
For centuries, the Mexican American experience has been one of adversity and endurance. The
plight of these native peoples has been ignored and many times erased from the American
conscience. They have struggled for acknowledgment, they have fought for equality and they have
gone to battle for respect. Luis Valdezs play, Los Vendidos
, is just one of many contributions to this
effort. A powerfully moving play, Los Vendidos
, or the sell outs , is a piece created to gain
acknowledgement, heighten awareness and to create a sense of camaraderie amongst the people
fighting in the Chicano Movement of the late 1960 s and 70 s. Created by a population that had
been victimized, beaten and driven to the ground by the powerful grip of American... Show more

She is a secretary working for the governor s office that maintains a proper yet pompous American
accent, and her hair is dyed a shade of platinum blond. She personifies the American aspiration to
de Mexicanize the Mexican Americans. As she shops for a suitable used Mexican model the civic
indifference and racism that the Mexican Americans have been forced to combat becomes
progressively more apparent.
Women, who have always accounted for half of the population, have not historically been
recognized or respected for their contributions to society. In the past, all women have had to
struggle against a chauvinistic world, but for minority women the fight has been even harder.
For Mexican America women they have had two strikes against them in the eyes of America, not
only were they Mexican and therefore prone to what those stereotypes entailed, but they were
also women and therefore not deserving of any power or respect. Los Vendidos presents and
portrays women in a very curious way. In the play, with the only exceptions being Ms. Jimenez
and the mother, who only has one line, none of the female models speak Furthermore, both Ms.
Jimenez and Senor Sancho deliberately ignore all of them. For example, as the play begins and
camera pans the store, a Soldadera woman can be noticed, she is dressed southwestern attire,
including a cowboy hat and ammunition belts. Other then for those few brief seconds this woman
is not seen again at any

Government In The Giver
Our government is a big point of conversation for many people. Discussing and criticizing how it is
run and organized but how is our government different from the government in the book The Giver.
The government in The Giver is supposed be perfect utopia but our government is supposed allow
people to make their own utopias. But which governmentwould be better to live in. In The Giver
babies are kept in nurturing centers until they are grown enough to be put into their school
system. If the babies don t grow fast enough then they are killed. Once the babies do grow
enough then they are initiated as ones. Then in a year they become twos and so on. When they
do something wrong they are hit with a stick. This goes on and each year they earn something
new. When they earn a bicycle they use this as transportation for the rest of their lives. There are
no cars. When they become Twelve s they get their jobs chosen for them. After that they train in
their selected jobs for a little while then they take over their respected jobs. Once they get old they

And they definitely don t kill old people just because they are old. If our government did any
other those things many people would get very upset and angry at our government for doing that
which is one of the reasons that the people in The Giver don t have feelings so they can do things
like that. Another thing that is a big difference is that the government choses jobs for all the
citizens based on what the government thinks the chosen citizen likes. I think some people would
be very upset about that in our country because one of the main things we are supposed to have is
freedom, but in the book, again they don t really have feelings so they don t care as

MГ©tis Resistance
In the mid 1850s, MГ©tis petitioned the Imperial Government in London through Red River born
lawyer Alexander Kennedy Isbister to limit the Council of Assiniboia s power. On the ground, the
Council rarely commanded enough of a constabulary to compel MГ©tis to follow its laws, so the
Council was often forced to compromise with the community to ensure the enforcement of its laws.
Other events overshadowed MГ©tis Company disputes in the 1860s: the intensifying eastern
interest in developing the West and Confederation in 1867. In 1869 the Dominion of Canadaand the
Hudson Bay Company reached an agreement for the transfer of Rupert s Land to the Canadian
government. Among MГ©tis, however, questions arose on how the Company had gained
ownership of the Northwest, when a multitude of natives of the... Show more content on

The consequent efforts of government surveyors to map Red River without regard for local
residents holdings resulted in the establishment of the MГ©tis National Committee, and a
provisional government in late 1869. These events established Louis Riel as the leader of the
MГ©tis resistance. After consolidating their alliance with the Half breed population and the old
British settler population, the three constituencies formed the Provisional Government of
Assiniboia s Legislative Assembly in March 1870, and sent a delegation to Ottawa to negotiate Red
River s entrance into Confederation. The outcome was the Manitoba Act, which established
Manitoba as a new province in Confederation as well as several other commitments to protect
MГ©tis landholdings including a 1.1.4 million acre and reserve, language and local political
control over the new province. However, the agreement recorded by the Provisional Government s
chief negotiator varies in important ways from the Manitoba Act, and MГ©tis leaders have argued
since the 19th century that the original agreement has never been properly

The Pros And Cons Of Evangelism
A mission conference held in Edinburg in 1910 became an historical marker in current evangelical
mission development. The theme of the conference was the evangelization of the world in this
generation. This conference presented the missionary task primarily as bringing people to Christ
and gathering them into churches. As it was a time of positive momentum in world history, social
justice issues arising from the world s problems were seemingly being solved by science and
technology on many fronts: in health, industry, economics, and education. In this climate of
momentum, the church projected its primary task as evangelizing the whole world.
However, the twentieth century failed to deliver on the promise of unending positive progression. ...

The missio Dei became everything God was doing in the world with or without the church.
Mission was seen as happening wherever, however, and by whomever the will of God is done on
earth. This included non Christians to whom the concept of the will of God is completely unknown
or rejected.
In contrast, evangelical Protestantism has maintained that the church remains at the centre of the
mission of God. God s mission is specifically located in the church, in the redeemed people of
God and what they have been commissioned to do under the authority of Jesus with the promise
of his presence (Mt 28:18 20). Consequently, the church s mission flows from the mission of God.
We are privileged to participate in the great narrative of what God is doing throughout the world in
calling people to himself and establishing his kingdom. John Stott explains the evangelical sense of
missio Dei as

Memory is a reconstructive process, where someone recall information from the past that will be
their autobiography and it can be affected by many different factors, and according to the first study
provided below, all memories are wrong to some extent. But what is important for memories is
whether we can differentiate between accurate and inaccurate ones. The first study has tested two
different approaches on subjects, and neither were helpful in determining the validity of a memory.
On the other hand, in the fourth study it was concluded that it is possible to assess whether a
particular eyewitness is true or false based on the approach the witness used to recall the
information. Also, it was found in the third research that subjects were

transformational leader. He as the eldest and most suitable of the four sons of Dasharatha has been
earmarked for the kingship form the beginning. The King his father makes no secret of his wishes
to see Rama in the throne. The sages Viswamitra, who takes Ramaand Lakshmana on a sort of tour
of duty to conquer some rakshasas who were creating havoc among the gentle tapasas , the raj

as the future king. The people of Ayodya loved Rama and were overjoyed at the news of his
coronation. Yet, when the king is coerced into ordering him to forsake all that and banish him to
spend fourteen years in the forest, he accepts without any protest. He calms down the outrage of
his brother and the courtiers on his behalf. When the people follow him to the forest, he asks them

Change based on utilitarian principles, for the better good of the maximum people, is brought
about when the rule of Kishkhinda is taken from Bali and given to Sugreeva and that of Lanka
from a power hungry Ravana to the better statesman Vibheeshana. Both Bali and Ravana were
exceptional individuals in their own rights, learned and capable. So the question arises whether
Rama s compliance and complicity in their removal is ethical. The answer to that is when the
moral fiber of a leader is corrupted it will result in the downfall of his organization also. So in the
larger interest of the people it was necessary to bring down these two rulers. Rama presides over
the change process making sure that it is achieved with as little upheaval as possible. This is the

the world from physical threats, this movie takes us to a whole new level of mystical threats, much
more dangerous than the threats within our world itself, consisting of very powerful characters and
ancient magic. We are introduced to a much bigger reality which we learn is also protected by a

My Letter For A Vice President
Vice President Are you sure you don t want to aim for something lower?, my mom asked. No
Mom, I am running for vice president. I was pacing back and forth really deciding what I want
to run for. Do I want to run for this or that? What are the pros and what are the cons. Would
anyone make fun of me? I was thinking in my head frantically. It was the end of my third grade
year and I was deciding what part of office I was going to run for. Vice President? Secretary? Or
maybe even Treasurer! I then make my speech, gather the materials for my sign/poster, practice
my speech in front of my parents until I got it down, and lastly, the most nervous part of trying to
run for office, talking to the many faces of 900 kids. During the time... Show more content on

I could hear the murmurs throughout the halls of the schools. Oh Alex s looks Good! Debra s is
not making me convinced! Reece s is sort of plain, but it gets the job done. One hard part about
running for vice president is that there were so many other people also running for the same
spot. One in particular was my best friend Alyson Jones. She and I have been friends since the
first month of school in first grade! When I skipped a grade she was my first friend that I made,
and we intend to keep our friendship long lasting and keep in touch, up to today. It was the day. I
was extremely nervous about talking to the 900 people at my school. What I did to prepare for
the speech was practice it when I was at snack, pretend to go to the bathroom during class and
practice it there, or do it in front of my friends or teachers. The lunch that day was the quickest
lunch I had ever had. It felt like it was 10 minutes. Then the most exciting but dreaded part of the
day came, the moment I had been waiting for. All of the students who were running for any
office, would go through the back door on to the stage, as we all saw the kids flooding in through
the doors. My stomach felt as if butterflies keep becoming butterflies as the seats filled up until the
last one was filled. To start off the candidates for Treasurer and Secretary made their speeches
quickly because there very little people running for those

United States Vs South Korea Essay
A democratic country is the country governed directly or indirectly by people who have their
sovereignty, so it has the laws to protect citizens rights. Most countries in the world adopt
democracy, and so do United States and South Korea. However, it doesn t mean that not both
countries laws are same. There are some similar and different points between United Statesand
South Korea in their laws to protect individual rights. There are five similar points in their laws.
First of all, the First Amendment and the Article 21 of Korean Constitution are about freedom of
speech, press, religion, and so on. Secondly, the Fourth Amendment and the Article 12 and 13 of
Korean Constitution are about protection from unreasonable search and arrest. Thirdly,... Show

Firstly, the Second Amendment is about right for having arms and army. However, there is no
Article in Korean Constitution about it and it is illegal. Secondly, the Third Amendment is about
protection from quartering of army, but this also doesn t exist in Korean Constitution. Thirdly, the
Seventh Amendment is about civil trial by jury, and laws related to this point don t exist in
Korea. However, there is a noticeable point in Korea, which is called Civil Participation in
Criminal Trials. It has been enforced since 2008 and is same with United States in terms of having
jury, but there are two crucial differences. In Korea, jury can only participate in criminal cases and
their verdicts have no legal binding forces, just advisory effects. Fourthly, the Ninth Amendment is
about protection of rights not specified in the Bill of Rights, and Korea does not have laws
involving this aspect naturally because the Korean Government does not adopt the Bill of Rights.
Lastly, the Tenth Amendment is about powers of states and people, but this point is vague. The
concept of powers of people can applied to both United States and Korea, but the concept of
powers of state can t because the Korean Government does not have federal system. Therefore, in
this essay, it is categorized as difference, but some people can regard it as same

Causes And Disadvantages Of Eutrophication
Eutrophication is the process by which an aquatic environment acquires a higher concentration of
two important nutrients: phosphates and nitrates in a certain environment. This promotes excessive
growth of algae on the surface of the water. Living things need some specific nutrients to survive.
Usually nature provides just the specific amount of nutrients, but too many nutrients can cause
dangerous problems to the environment. This is presented in aquatic systems.
However the problems can also increase when aquatic environments such as lakes or rivers have an
overabundance of nutrients, when this happens eutrophication appears. A Eutrophic lake occurs
when there is a presence of too many nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus that is usually as a
result of drainage from surrounding land. When a lake or other aquatic system becomes eutrophic,
then we can have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A 2008 study counted 405 dead zones across the world. Hypoxia occur when there is low oxygen in
a specific area, so this is a natural phenomenon in coastal areas around the world. Aquatic dead
zones can be caused by an increase in nutrients such as nitrates and phosphates known as
eutrophication.Major nutrients comes from human activity such as fertilisers in agriculture and
burning fossil fuels , these nutrients lead to rapid increase on phytoplankton resulting in algae
bloom . These organic matter produced sinks to the bottom of the ocean were bacteria break it
down, when bacteria break down this organic matter they consumed oxygen liberating carbon

1984 Manipulation Of Love Essay
Edmund Burke once said, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and
reasoning as hate. In other words, when one becomes enveloped in the emotion of hate,
similarly to that of love, it can alter one s thought and ability to make decisions. Love and hate
are the two most powerful emotions and are seen at the core of humanity; however, it is ironic
that such strong emotions can be so easily manipulated. George Orwell considers this idea in his
novel 1984 and reveals the relationship between love and hate in a dystopian society. Throughout
the novel, it is clear to see how one is able to gain love and power based on the manipulation of
hate and fear; this can be seen through the analysis of the Party s views of Emmanuel... Show more

be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or curiosity, or courage, or

Furthermore, just after Winston hears that Oceania has won the war against Eurasia, he gazes up

he had done. The only love he feels is that towards Big Brother. Thus, giving the Party the

Andean Cocaine Essay
Andean Cocaine traces the obscure processes and transformations of the global coca and cocaine
commodity chain. Gootenberg documents the lore of the Andean coca leaf, the birth of cocaine as
a medical commodity, the early twentieth century decline cocaine, and its reemergence as a global
illicit good following World War II. The commodity chain of coca
and cocainebegan with the
extraction of alkaloidal cocaine from the dried Andean coca leaf. This discovery by German
doctoral student Albert Niemann would soon transform cocaine into a world drug commodity.
Initially, cocaine was essential as a high value medical commodity. Medical uses of cocaine
included treatment of opiate addiction, hay fever, asthma, or other respiratory ailments. Cocaine s
greatest medical impact in the United States was as a local anesthetic during surgery. In Europe,
cocaine s commodity chain was defined by the coca elixir Vin Mariani developed by Corsican
physician and chemist Angelo Mariani. Cultivated by Peruvian and Bolivian peasants living in the
Andean Mountains, the coca leaf would be dried and shipped to the United States or Europe for

Leonardo Vetria Research Paper
When physicist Leonardo Vetra is found murdered with the word Illuminati branded onto his
chest, Maximilian Kohler, the director of CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research),
contacts Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon for help. Kohler has Langdon flown to CERN.
Langdon explains the role of the Illuminati a secret society of artists, scientists, and freethinkers as
a long standing enemy of the Catholic Church. While Langdon is explaining this, and learning
more about Vetra s research, Vetra s adopted daughter, Vittoria, who is also a physicist, joins them.
Vittoria and her father had created antimatter in a CERN lab. This was doubly important to her
father because he was a priest, and the discovery promised to give humanity access to the secrets of
creation. However, it is also a great threat because antimatter explodes when it comes into contact
with normal matter. This becomes a pressing issue when they learn that their biggest sample has
been stolen, and the battery that generates the magnetic field (and keeps the antimatter stable) has
only a twenty four hour life span. CERN is then contacted by the Vatican: a threat has been issued

Mango Street affects her at first in a bad way. Her disapproval is proven by her thought, I knew

house, it is a very special thing to her family, The house on Mango Street is ours, and we don t

make too much noise, and there isn t a landlord banging on the ceiling with a broom (Cisneros

guided by the wisdom and ignorance of people neighboring her family. Esperanza s family has a
heavy impression on her. Being the eldest out of four children made her have to mature fast if
she wanted to care for her younger siblings properly. An instance in which she proves to

Reclamation in your role at the Interstate Stream Commission. Talk about your perspective of
Reclamation, what s it s like to be Commissioner, and any thoughts about your end of term. Today, I

tribes and with federal policy promoting Indian self determination and economic self sufficiency. As
I have witnessed here first hand, settlements can end decades of controversy and contention
concerning water issues among tribes and neighboring communities replacing those conflicts with

Descriptive Essay On French Bulldogs
French Bulldogs are amazing dogs, in my opinion, and there s lots to know about them! I ll be
honest, I don t really like dogs, and I m not a dog person. However, 2 years ago I got a French
bulldog, and she s one of the things I love most. That just shows how lovable these dogs are.
Sometimes they re silly looking, or have bad attitudes or behavior, and usually have a lot of
problems, but they re still amazing. I never used to like them, but after getting one, I love them!
First of all, French bulldogs are EXTREMLY expensive dogs, and can cost up to 2,5000 or more. It
also depends on the color of the dog. There are all kinds of different colors of Frenchies, like blue,
cream, red, red and black mask, pie, and plenty of others. Blue Frenchies, which are the most
expensive, are gray and have blue tints to their fur, and also have blue eyes. My dog is a cream,
which are usually white, with cream brown colors. There are many more colors, and too many to
explain. I think the reason these dogs are so popular and expensive is their appearance. Aside from
being lovable, I think the appearance of the French bulldogis a very important detail. Women
usually like small dogs, right? Well, men usually don t care for those tiny, girly looking dogs.
However, French bulldogs are tiny dogs, but they re big, muscular, and not girly. They are smaller
than regular bulldogs, English bulldogs, and American bulldogs. Although, they have very

Why Are Teens Attracted To Gangs
Why Teenagers Are Attracted To Gangs
For some young teenagers, joining a gang can provide comfort, protection and a sense of
belonging. Among teenagers, being in a gang can enhance their popularity status with peers, who
particularly are girls. A gang is a group of three or more individuals who make a name for
themselves by creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Gangs tend to identify themselves
by a collective name, a slogan, identifying sign, tattoos or other physical markings. Statistics show
that the highest percentage of gang members are teenagers who range from the ages of 13 to 18.
Being in a gang may seem like fun, or seem cool and exciting, but in actuality it is can be
dangerous, unsafe and could be fatal. Gangs have been a part of society for many years. Most
modern gangs started as a group of people working towards one common goal, protecting their
neighborhood. Eventually, helping the neighborhood became obsolete and drug trafficking and
violence became the main focus of the organization. Lately, gang members have turned from
outcast and being frowned upon to becoming role Thompson 2 models. In recent years, the model

(Wada et al., 2010). Only 3% of the world s supply of water is freshwater, with 68.7% being
locked away in the glaciers, 30.1% in ground water, and 0.9% in surface water bodies
(Shiklomanov, 1993). This makes groundwater the most abundant fresh water source readily
available for human consumption. Estimates for global groundwater withdrawal are between 750
and 800 cubic kilometers per year (Konikow et al., 2005). Severe land subsidence and depletion of
the groundwater table is occurring in both developing and developed nations. This has made ...

half residing in India and the other half in Pakistan. Punjab has always been a rich agricultural
region. Since 1998 however, Punjab has consistently had below average amounts of annual
rainfall. The climate across Punjab rarely ever sees temperatures drop below 0 degrees celsius,
and is classified as subtropical. The state is known for outputting 40 50% of the rice and 60 65%

need for irrigation, there has been a 600% increase in the amount of tube wells in the past 35

The National Youth Leadership Forum
Growing up in a predominately African American school district, I would go several days
without ever being reminded of my racial identity. I was considered part of the majority
throughout all of grade school. However, this all changed as I began to stray from my normal
crowd and participate in academic enrichment and pre medical programs. The very first time that
I was reminded that I was the minority, and therefore inferior to many was when I attended a
program called NYLF. The National Youth Leadership Forum allowed me to spend ten days at a
medical forum with high school students from all over the world. When I arrived, I looked
around and realized that out of about two hundred kids, only about fifteen looked like me. I also
noticed that they had all congregated to the same area and had essentially secluded themselves.
Determined not to stay in my comfort zone and expose myself to new things, I decided to sit at a
different table. A few days into the program, several disappointing things became clear. I began to
observe ignorant remarks, disapproving glares, and belittling attitudes from many of my
surrounding peers. Admittedly, it did make me somewhat upset to know that so many felt that
because I was a black girl, I did not deserve to be at this program. It became evident that many of
my opinions, thoughts, and responses to activities were quickly discounted on most occasions. I
wondered if I had made the wrong decision by branching off from my African Americanpeers.

Offshore Oil Drilling Research Paper
Offshore Oil Drilling in United States Waters Oil is one of the most precious substances on Earth.
It takes millions of years to form and has many applications throughout the world. Offshore oil
drilling in the coastal waters of the United States is a technique used by companies to extract the
oil buried deep beneath the ocean floor. Many people refer to the ways that offshore drilling will
help the economy, both locally and globally, but despite the apparent benefits, the process is not
without controversy. Oilrigs produce wastes which affect marine life and the associated fishing
industry, and they pose a danger to the employees who operate them. Because of these
consequences, the United States should look to restrict offshore oil drilling.... Show more content on

Dreams And Mental Dreams In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In today s society, people have many different ways that they interpret their dreams. Some people
believe that they give us a view into the future while others believe that they tell us more about
ourselves. Historically, they were once believed to be symptoms of mental illness. It was through
the work of Sigmund Freud, a psychoanalyst, that the value of dreams was shifted; we were able to
learn the significance of the information that they gave us ( Dreamin History , para. 9). In
Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses dreams and nightmares to share information with the reader on
Victor. These dreams specifically Victor s give us details relating to his desires which affect his
character. As the book progresses, we begin to see a shift in his character which parallels with
these dreams. As the book begins, we are introduced to Victor s personality, which is highly
enthusiastic at first. He is immersed into his studies at Ingolstadt, slowly making his place within
his university with his interest in the sciences. While studying, he is captivated by the structure of
humans and shifts his studies into attempting to create a human being from a dead body (Shelley,
46). Slowly but surely, Victor begins to drift in daydreaming about giving life to a dead body. He
says, Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through..Pursuing these
reflections, I thought, that if I could bestow animation upon lifeless matter, I might..renew life

Early Christian Religion Research Paper
The early Christian church made no distinction between sin and suffering, and repentance and
healing. (p. 34) The Scripture equates sickness with unclean spirits and demonic activity. Early
Christians understood the relationship between sin and sickness and acted accordingly (see James
5:14,15). Jesus taught the disciples the relationship between sin and sickness. In the early church
repentance and healing went hand in hand. Unfortunately, in today s church the first call of a sick
Christian is to their doctor or hospital. We have turned to the secular world for a healing, which
they cannot offer. Satan s footprint is everywhere in the medical field. I am reminded of a

The Media Should Stop Making The Pit Bull
Gain Pit Bull Knowledge The media is deceiving us when it comes to dog attacks. They alter
numbers, facts, and statistics to favor what they want us to know. Unfortunately, America is falling
for it and the ones paying the price are the innocent dogs. The media should stop making the pit bull
seem vicious because the term pit bullencompasses more than one breed of dog, all dogs can be
aggressive, and they were once America s dog. Incase we ve forgotten, all dogs are descendants
of the wolf. Somewhere along the line we assumed that because the dog has been domesticated
that we no longer have anything to fear. This concept, however, isn t true. All animals act
instinctively, they don t act accordingly to their training. As long as their owners are present they
might behave properly but who is to say how they will act when their owner is no longer present.
We have to remember that we all have that flight or fight mode and therefore when faced with
fear or danger we might not act logically but instead instinctively. The reasons why a pit bull or
any animal may attack are to protect, for territory, possession, out of fear, to defend, for social
status, frustration, and when in pain (ASPCA, para. 7 13). The dogs wild relatives are territorial
and they live in certain areas and defend their land from intruders. Anyone willing to enter will face
a charging dog. Dogs are a social species and if left alone they would create small packs of family

Persuasive Essay On Child Circumcision
Imagine you are in hospital room somewhere in Malaysia. A young girl timidly toddles in with
her mother, and is soon restrained by her mother and a medical attendant while her genitals are cut
against her will. This will ensure that her body is cleaner, her mother has been conditioned to
think. It will also make her daughter s genitals look more aesthetically pleasing. After the procedure
has been completed, the girl lay there suffering in pain, and the doctor proudly announces to her
mother, Congratulations! Her circumcision is finished! As appalling as it is to imagine this
scenario, thousands of American newborns go through this trauma every day; simply change the
gender from girl to boy. Routine infant circumcision (RIC) is described as the nonreligious elective
removal of the prepuce of the penisin the days following birth, [and] is the most common surgery
performed in the United States. (Mitchell and Beal)
Although circumcision is thought to be one of the oldest procedures in the world, the manner in
which American doctors perform it is relatively new. Unbeknownst to most modern day Americans,
circumcision wasn t widely practiced in the country until about 1910. As a matter of fact, none of
our founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, were circumcised!
Americans tend to be dumbfounded when they learn that about 80 percent of the world s
population do not practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. (Wallerstein) We are, in

Screwtape Letters Analysis
The Screwtape Letters
The Screwtape Letters is a thought provoking book that details how easily humans are ensnared by
the Enemy. The enticement of the world seems so appealing to human, however, C.S. Lewis makes
it very clear that the enticement in the world is only temporary, and is ultimately a tactic of the
Enemy. Often times, temptation creeps into our minds unexpectedly, but temptation s effects are
deadly. The Enemy will stop at nothing to tempt us, but God s Word says that He will not tempt you
beyond what you can bear, and when temptation comes, God will provide a way out (1 Corinthians
10:13).
Throughout the Screwtape Letters, the character Screwtape writes letters to his nephew,
Wormwood. The reader is propelled into the life of the Patient; and Screwtape makes it clear to
Wormwood that he must stop at nothing to get the Patient from focusing on his relationship with
God, and this becomes the motivation and obsession behind every note Screwtape writes. However,
Screwtape does not only tell Wormwood to tempt the Patient in only one... Show more content on

Screwtape also tries to use lust as a distraction in the Patient s life. Being that the Patient is young
and unmarried, Screwtape is to highlight lusts to keep his burning desire to be for women, and not
for the One who gave him life. This approach was very clever, but believers must realize that the
weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this world. Not only that, but Screwtape encourages
Wormwood to not let the Patient s Christianity shine through. That being said, the Patient would
become self conscious about his relationship with God, thus getting him to focus on self. This
tactic, however, is nothing new. Satan tries nothing new, but it is important for us to know how to
resist the devil, and that is through prayer, and the reading of God s

1.INTRODUCTION
1.1 Definition of e Service Quality
E service quality (e SQ) is a study of the quality of service received over the internet. This can be
defined as the extent to which a website facilitates efficient and effective shopping, purchasing and
delivery (Zeithaml et al., 2000).
Over the next four years, it is estimated that the number of online buyers in the UK will rise by
over half of the UK s current population, from 26.9 million to 31.8 million (marketresearch.com).
Clearly, this is a very large and profitable market, with businesses securing increasing numbers of
sales online each year (British Retail Consortium). Higher website quality leads to higher
profitability levels (Vanitha et al, 1999), therefore having an efficient and effective website is
crucial for obtaining sales, and e SQ is a major factor in securing customer loyalty (Cristobal et al,
2007).
Some academic researchers have created comprehensive scales to measure e SQ. Since
SERVQUAL is the definitive measurement of service quality (Wilson et al, 2008), it stands to
reason that many scales measuring e SQ would be based

Outsourcing Benefits
To understand whether or not outsourcing is beneficial, it is important to have a complete
understanding of what it is. Simply stated, outsourcing is a practice employed by some companies
in order to reduce cost by transferring work to third party suppliers rather than keeping the work
within the company. The most widely known example of a company which outsources jobs is
Apple. Rather than keeping the manufacturing of its products in the United States, Apple chooses to
outsource jobs to a third party, major manufacturer in China called Foxconn, famous for providing
the world with iPhones, iPads, and many other Apple products. Because outsourcingtransfers a lot
of American labor overseas, it is often heavily criticized by a lot of working class Americans.
Many see the practice of outsourcing as immoral because companies are sacrificing the welfare of
its workers simply to increase profits. The negative effects of outsourcing within the United States
can be seen in many industries such as manufacturing, information technology services, research
and development, and call centers. Cumulatively, all these industries provide millions of jobs, some
well compensated, to Americans. In the 21st century, however, Americans are increasingly pursuing
high skill employment so some of the low skill jobs in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Honor In The Iliad
In Ancient Greece honor was important. In the Iliad it says Now be men, my friends! Courage,
come, take heart! Dread what comrades say of you here in bloody combat! When men dread
that, more men come through alive When soldiers break and run, good bye glory, good bye all
defenses! The only way Greeks believe they could earn honor was by fighting. Although fighting
for an important cause does bring honor it is not the only way humans earn honor. One way
people can receive honor comes from age. Honoring elders is a command gave us. In the book in
the Bible Leviticus is written, Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the

Analysis Of Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven
In a world where assimilation is the easiest way to survive, it can be difficult to maintain two
identities. The development of characters is the foundation in which people use to grow and
become successful in their path of life. Oppression, cultural changes, and pressure to conform to
the stereotypical image of success causes discontent among cultures. Many children have an ideal
image of who they want to be, and often their parents have a conflicting view on who they would
like to see their child become. In the story Two Kinds the Narrator has a rebellious attitude towards
the aspirations of her mother. The amount of pressure placed on her and her lack of success causes
sadness in the main charactersince she was not able to perform the way her mother wanted.
Similarly, the main character from The Lone Rangerand TontoFistfight in Heaven experiences a
feeling of inferiority from the racial discrimination and lack of financial success in his life. In the
story Two Kinds the Narrator does not want to become the prodigy her mother wishes her to be.
The idea of becoming a famous actor or musician, like Shirly Temple, was a noble idea from her
mother since she only wanted to see her daughter succeed. The pressure she placed on her daughter
to follow her orders and be obedient, however, was not in the likeness of the daughter s interests.
This example is evident when the author s mother states [There are] Only two kinds of daughters,
she shouted in Chinese. Those who are obedient and those who follow their mind! Only one kind of
daughter can live in this house. (Tan 242) The fight that occurs between the narrator and her mother
causes a sudden shift in tone, which indicates that the mother no longer held the same high Johnson
2 expectation from her daughter. Throughout the story, the main character struggles with her
identity. The narrator s family was

A Report On The Fire
INTRODUCTION
This is a report compiled by Musawenkosi Nkabinde a student at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan
University while conducting practicals in the kingdom of Swaziland at a company called
Montigny Forest Products. It is a company of about plus minus 75 000 hacters where a variety of
species are planted e.g. Pinus elliote, Patula, Taeda, Pexq, Eucalyptus Smithii, dannai etc. All these
are planted for different products dominating one being the production of planks which means the
company keeps many of its trees for many years till they mature.
The main purpose of this report is to give clarity on the fire, to determine the origin, determine
causes of the fire, damages caused by the fire and to develop ideas on how can unwanted fires
like these can be prevented from reoccurring in our plantations like the one occurred in
compartment C22 on the17 of JULY 2015 at 17:00pm till 23:00pm. A number of plus minus 600

HISTORY OF THE AREA
It had been known for years that the belt dividing C22 and C14 has a problem with smoldering
materials, usually when that belt is burnt a tanker and two labourers are left behind extinguishing
the smoldering woods ensuring nothing lights up, but on this day the tanker had a breakdown two

Analysis Of Friedrich Nietzsche s Thus Spoke Zarathustra
In the late 19th century, philosopher and psychologist, Friedrich Nietzsche, published a four part
chronicle, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, to express his perspective on how human beings can work
towards and achieve a lifestyle of joy and innocence. Nietzsche, who was an anti christ due to its
slavish mentality and ways, believed that everyone has an overman and ubermensch aspect to their
lives, where they can be free spirited and the ultimate dictator of their morals and values. For one
to live a life of free of predestined expectations and societal pressures, they must be constantly

Whether it be because of, gender, race, religion, etc.., society tries to put us into precalculated
and absolute groups. Furthermore, because of society, from the second we are born, we are
enslaved and held responsible to live through someone else s ideas of what is right for you and
others. Every task in life can be seen as a burden, you re expected to be cleanly and brush your
teeth, you re obligated to wear clothes in public, you re supposed to wash your hands after you go

examples of being enslaved to a certain way of life, ruled by society. Nietzsche validates that, there
is much that is difficult for the spirit, the strong reverent spirit that would bear much: but the
difficult and the most difficult are what its strength demands. In other terms, Nietzsche
acknowledges that shitty, even unfair things are going to happen to you in life and that is hard to

The Zika Virus
The Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito borne single stranded RNA virus. It is in the family of
Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus. This virus causes a mild illness similar to dengue. The first case of
ZIKV was identified in Uganda in 1947. Cases of this virus were rare until 2007 when a major
epidemic happened in Yap Island, Micronesia. Now, epidemics have happened in Polynesia, Easter
Island, the Cook Islands, Brazil, and New Caledonia (Ioos et al., 2014).
During the first week of infection, the virus is in the blood and can be passed from an infected
person to a mosquito. An infected mosquito can then spread the virus to other people. The most
common symptoms of ZIKV are fever, rash, joint pain, or red eyes. Other common symptoms

of thingnet works can be found in hyperlinks among site pages, motion pictures coordinated by the
same executives, et cetera. In this paper, we build up a novel progressive Bayesian model, called
Relational Collaborative Topic Regression (RCTR), to join thing relations for suggestion. The
principle commitments of RCTR are laid out.
II. Foundation: In this area, we give a brief presentation about the back ground of RCTR,

proposed to prescribe records (papers) to clients via flawlessly incorporating both input framework

MF based CF. By joining MF and inactive Dirichlet distribution (LDA), CTR accomplishes
preferable expectation execution over MF based CF with better interpretable results. In addition,
with the thing content data, CTR can anticipate input for out of grid things. The graphical model of

review of Wireless Sensor Network routing protocols. A wireless sensornetwork (WSN) consists of
spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions and to
cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location. Routing in
WSNs is very challenging due to the inherent characteristics that distinguish these networks from
other wireless networks like mobile ad hoc networks or cellular networks. Due to the relatively
large number of sensor nodes, it is not possible to build a global addressing scheme for the
deployment of a large number of sensor nodes as the overhead of ID maintenance is high. Thus
they require careful resource management. This paper describes various routing protocols and their
comparison and working of LEACH protocol and enhanced LEACH protocol. Keywords Wireless
Sensor Networks (WSN), Sensor Nodes,
LEACH, Enhanced LEACH Base Station (BS) Cluster Head (CH).

The Biological Adaptions Of Animals
Science Writing Report
Compare and contrast the biological adaptions of animals that allow them to survive in the
Antarctic environment
Introduction:
The name Antartica comes from a greek word which means the opposite of north. Antarctica is the
southernmost continent and is known for having cold and windy conditions. It is the fifth largest
continent out of seven other continents in the world and the area of Antarctica is 14,000,000 km2
and around 90% of it is covered in ice.
The conditions in Antartica (min, max, average temps and wind, water and food availability) and
how these conditions would affect animal survival
The environment conditions in Antarctica is very harsh, it is known for being the most coldest
and windiest continent in the world as 98% of it is covered in ice which is 4.7 kilometres thick.
Antarctica is considered a desert due to the fact that it barely rains and how dry it is around the
continent. The weather temperature in Antarctica can go as low as 89.6 degrees celsius and a
high of 12.3 degrees celsius with an average temperature of 49 degrees celsius. This is because
of the height above sea levels, the atmosphere and the land masses around Antarctica which is
why the continent is an extremely cold place. In Antarctica the strong winds that are caused is due
to the strong winds which are the katabatic winds. The cold and dry katabatic wind is caused by
the downslope gravity flow which is formed by the cold air. The highest wind velocity in

The Bluest Eye Trauma
In the book The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison there was multiple instances in the story where
child abuse is shown. For example, we see Soaphead Church molesting young children who have
no clue what he s doing to them but they see him as a good guy who gives them money and
candy, and the most tragic case of child abuse in the book is when Cholly rapes his own
daughter Pecola at the end of the book and the worst part is he did it twice. But to get to the
point, there are multiple articles and books that are all about trauma and the effects it has on the
children. It is an extremely popular subject that gets talked about on the news, an example of that
is when Larry Nassar molested over 100+ young teens while he had to do health checkups and due

The And Implementation Of Rapid Response Teams
Much like the human body, healthcare is a complex system that must be assessed and reviewed
routinely to identify the dysfunctions or parts that are in need of intervention. It is the job of
nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals to recognize and communicate when there is a
need for change or improvement in order for patients to receive the highest standard of care and
optimal health outcomes. The creation and implementation of Rapid Response Teams were one of
the many strategies initiated in the 100,000 Lives Campaign (2004) instituted by the Institute of
Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in effort to reduce morbidity and mortality in the United States
health care system. Rapid Response Teams (RRT) are groups of specialized,... Show more content

According to Carlo Parker, the literature suggests that RRT s are underutilized either by delayed
activation or failure to activate entirely. This underutilization is shown to lead to failure to
rescue. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between nurses decision
making model during RRT activation and the frequency of the RRT activation (Parker, 2014).
Lauri and Salantera (2002) have identified three decision making models that are utilized by
nurses to make clinical judgments based off of information processing and intuitive humanistic
theories (Parker, 2014). The first model is the analytical decision making, which involves the
collection of data, forming a hypothesis and continuing to collect data until a decision has been
reached (Parker, 2014). Secondly, the intuitive decision making is understanding without
rationale (Parker, 2014). The third model is a combination of the analytical and intuitive
decision making. The registered nurses (RN) who participated in this study were from an acute
care unit who had activated the RRT at least once in the past 12 months. The RN s were between
the ages of 24 57, 91% were female, 63% of them held a baccalaureate or master s degree in nursing
and the average time working as an RN was 10 years (Parker, 2014). The results of the study

Autism And Autism Spectrum Disorder
To be honest, the first time I read Fifty Shades of Grey, it was for the illicit sex. The second time
was to process what I read. The third, fourth and fifth times was to delve deeper into Mr. Grey s
neurological and psychological impulses. Something about his mannerisms, and the way he
interacted with others, spoke to me on a profound level. I know autismwhen I see it. For those not
familiar with autism, Autism Speaks, the world s leading autism science and advocacy
organization, defines autism and autism spectrumdisorder (ASD), as both general terms for a
group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying
degrees (hence, a Spectrum that includes both low and high functioning individuals), by
difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. If
he could read body language, he wouldn t need the dreaded safe word would he? Appalled at my
audacity to label everyone s favorite Dom with autism? Let me assure you that autism isn t a dirty
or shameful thing in my household. Nor should it be in anyone s household. Apple, Microsoft,
Google, Facebook and the like wouldn t be the standard bearers they are today without having
employees with autism and ASD. It s no surprise that the autism and ASD populations in tech hubs
like Silicon Valley, California and Redmond, Washington have incredibly high autism populations.
But, let s get back to Mr. Grey and my autism theory.

Lobstein Syndrome Character Analysis
Have you ever watched a video from the kid president? Do you know the character named Brick
in the show The Middle ? The boys who star in these shows both have something in common.
They have osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). It is also known as brittle bone disease or Lobstein
syndrome. OI causes the bones to be so brittle that even small movements or impacts can cause a
break. These breaks are what often causes the diagnosis to come about. It can also cause the whites
of a person s eyes to turn blue and can cause hearing loss. It s obvious that the condition can also
cause chronic pain, bone deformity, small stature, spinal curvature and depression. OI is actually a

Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic
framework of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It
enables interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence
stratigraphy uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the
depositional settings of the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of
the extent and character of the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally
designed for seismic sections, but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It
now provides a powerful method and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects.
The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their
upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977).
And it is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is
interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). The
systems tracts are divided into Falling Stage Systems Tract/Forced Regressive Wedge Systems
Tract (FSST/ FRWST), Lowstand Systems Tract (LST), Transgressive Systems Tract (TST) and
Highstand Systems Tract (HST); and are bounded by surfaces which consist of

Sara Ramirez Essay
Last month, CBS debuted their last cast addition to the show Madame Secretary Sara Ramirez.
Ramirez s new presence on the show is significant but it seems to be signaling a larger sea
change in prime time television that has historically lacked diversity. Ramirez, who is an openly
bisexual Latina woman, has been a mainstay on the show Grey s Anatomy over the years. Her
latest role as Kat Sandoval, a brilliant and a little quirky, political strategist turned avocado
farmer is giving Mike B., a trusted advisor to the Secretary of State, a run for his money. It is also
challenging the way Ramirez has played previous roles. Kat s presentation of self is what is of
most interest for the show. Her quaffed pompadour, smart, tailored suits, pocket... Show more

coveted Tony Award. However, it wasn t until her role as Dr. Callie Torres on the long running

Ramirez s portrayal of Torres from 2006 15, who comes out as bisexual on the show after a short
lived marriage to a medical intern in the hospital, was also another breakout moment for the
LBGTQ moment and for Ramirez s personally. The role helped put her on the map, and she
became a pop culture icon through her infectious smile, and willingness to always see the good in

Essay On Cash Loans
Once you ve finished reading this article, you should know enough about cash loans to make the
right decision about them, and also be able to explain them to others
Advances with payday loans help you get through to your next payday. These loans always come
with strict fees attached. When you fall behind in your bills, you could ask for extensions and work
closely with your utility service providers to pay your arrangers. Or you can go for a payday loan. A
payday loans is designed for instant relief in emergency situations. Things like utilities about to be
shut off, car repairs, overdrafts, tuition fees, or health costs can be good times to seek a payday loan.

They just verify your employment and banking information, and process the loan. But there are a
few that will have you fax them documents with signatures.
The way payday advance help is in their flexibility. A borrower can be at ease knowing this
transaction is private and discreet. Many advances are used for common things that can sneak up on
us by our mishandling of our monthly budgets.
When you search on the Internet for a loan, you ll see there are many websites devoted to this
industry. If you can find one closer to your area, it could serve you better. Some lenders of these
loans are restricted to their own areas. There is a bit of controversy surrounding this industry in
many places, and some states are trying to shut these resources down.
Many people and officials claim that these payday loans are preying on people who are down
financially, and taking advantage. They feel these lenders are merciless, greedy, and gluttonous,
making their profits off the misfortune of others. But others say you need to look at some of the
traditional loan institutions before being so quick to judge.
In reality, a payday loan can be cheaper than having a bank overdraft. Overdrafts today are quite
expensive. When you obtain a payday loan for paying off overdraft fees, it might cost you, but not
as much as incurring another overdraft fee. If you any type of disconnection charges, you ll
probably pay less for the payday loan for

My Report on the Jamaican Culture
Have you ever wanted to go to Jamaica because of their lifestyle or accent? Sure, you did! But, is
their lifestyle really what it is put out to be? Jamaican culture is the up building, upholding, and
one of the starting points of African culture. So, I am here to inform you about it. The culture of
Jamaica is very unique. Their culture is not the type of culture you would always imagine.
Jamaican culture all started in the dancehall. The dancehall started in the cities of Kingston in
the late 1940s but really started to become popular in the 1950s. The dancehall queen is the
highest rank in the dancehall. The dancehall queen means that the person is the most visible and
the best dancer of them all. As soon as the music hit the US in the 60 s and 70 s, it started to
migrate into a Jamaican flavor or as known reggae. The food customs of Jamaica is very
different. The Jamaican patty is the most well known. These patties are dated back all the way to
when Jamaica was found. In this patty it is found to be different spices to be cooked in their flaky
shell. According to VIP Attractions, it states that, Today, patties can be found all over Jamaica and
the rest of the Caribbean. They became such a reminiscent piece of Jamaica that they have made
their way into Europe and North America to satisfy the longing palates of the Jamaican Diaspora.
Also, in the Jamaican culture, they eat Johnny Cakes. They also call these Jamaican Fried
Dumplings. Many breakfast platters are served

Examples Of Superstitions And Folklore In The Conjure Woman
Superstitions and Folklore: Bibliography Essay on Superstitions
And Folklore in Charles W. Chesnutt s Stories Charles Waddell Chesnutt is an African American
writer who writes many novels and short stories about African American superstitions and folklore
of the south in The Conjure Woman . The Conjure Woman is a collection of folk tales that explore
complex issues of racial and social identity in the post Civil War. Chesnutt writes these stories in
vernacular forms to represent the oral act of storytelling and express Chesnutt s black identity and
cultural heritage of African Americanpeople. Chesnutt s folktales are narrated either to teach the
readers lessons or to represent how African American people are treated by whites as second class
citizens. The following essay concentrates on superstitions and folklore in Chesnutt s stories, and
how Chesnutt uses African American folklore... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chesnutt s The Conjure Woman, (Western Journal of Black Studies 36.4 [2012]: 325 336), Donald
M. Shaffer Jr. argues that Chesnutt s collection can be considered as a racial project . Chesnutt
narrates these tales in order to destroy the concept of hierarchy and race in American society. The
race project can be seen as linkages between the oral act of storytelling and the social status of
black people after the Civil War. In addition, Shaffer states Chesnutt s use of the conjuring tale as a
touchstone of imaginative possibility and spiritual perseverance speaks to its cultural potency.
Much of what Chesnutt knew of conjuration or goophering he gleaned from his childhood
recollection having grown up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Chesnutt (2001) describes the
practice in an essay entitled Superstitions and Folklore of the South. In the essay, he traces the
origins of conjuration to Africa, where it probably grew, in the first place, out of African fetichism

  • 2. Los Vendidos, Produced by Luis Valdez Essay For centuries, the Mexican American experience has been one of adversity and endurance. The plight of these native peoples has been ignored and many times erased from the American conscience. They have struggled for acknowledgment, they have fought for equality and they have gone to battle for respect. Luis Valdezs play, Los Vendidos , is just one of many contributions to this effort. A powerfully moving play, Los Vendidos , or the sell outs , is a piece created to gain acknowledgement, heighten awareness and to create a sense of camaraderie amongst the people fighting in the Chicano Movement of the late 1960 s and 70 s. Created by a population that had been victimized, beaten and driven to the ground by the powerful grip of American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is a secretary working for the governor s office that maintains a proper yet pompous American accent, and her hair is dyed a shade of platinum blond. She personifies the American aspiration to de Mexicanize the Mexican Americans. As she shops for a suitable used Mexican model the civic indifference and racism that the Mexican Americans have been forced to combat becomes progressively more apparent. Women, who have always accounted for half of the population, have not historically been recognized or respected for their contributions to society. In the past, all women have had to struggle against a chauvinistic world, but for minority women the fight has been even harder. For Mexican America women they have had two strikes against them in the eyes of America, not only were they Mexican and therefore prone to what those stereotypes entailed, but they were also women and therefore not deserving of any power or respect. Los Vendidos presents and portrays women in a very curious way. In the play, with the only exceptions being Ms. Jimenez and the mother, who only has one line, none of the female models speak Furthermore, both Ms. Jimenez and Senor Sancho deliberately ignore all of them. For example, as the play begins and camera pans the store, a Soldadera woman can be noticed, she is dressed southwestern attire, including a cowboy hat and ammunition belts. Other then for those few brief seconds this woman is not seen again at any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Government In The Giver Our government is a big point of conversation for many people. Discussing and criticizing how it is run and organized but how is our government different from the government in the book The Giver. The government in The Giver is supposed be perfect utopia but our government is supposed allow people to make their own utopias. But which governmentwould be better to live in. In The Giver babies are kept in nurturing centers until they are grown enough to be put into their school system. If the babies don t grow fast enough then they are killed. Once the babies do grow enough then they are initiated as ones. Then in a year they become twos and so on. When they do something wrong they are hit with a stick. This goes on and each year they earn something new. When they earn a bicycle they use this as transportation for the rest of their lives. There are no cars. When they become Twelve s they get their jobs chosen for them. After that they train in their selected jobs for a little while then they take over their respected jobs. Once they get old they go to the house of old where all the old people live. After... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And they definitely don t kill old people just because they are old. If our government did any other those things many people would get very upset and angry at our government for doing that which is one of the reasons that the people in The Giver don t have feelings so they can do things like that. Another thing that is a big difference is that the government choses jobs for all the citizens based on what the government thinks the chosen citizen likes. I think some people would be very upset about that in our country because one of the main things we are supposed to have is freedom, but in the book, again they don t really have feelings so they don t care as ... • 4. MГ©tis Resistance In the mid 1850s, MГ©tis petitioned the Imperial Government in London through Red River born lawyer Alexander Kennedy Isbister to limit the Council of Assiniboia s power. On the ground, the Council rarely commanded enough of a constabulary to compel MГ©tis to follow its laws, so the Council was often forced to compromise with the community to ensure the enforcement of its laws. Other events overshadowed MГ©tis Company disputes in the 1860s: the intensifying eastern interest in developing the West and Confederation in 1867. In 1869 the Dominion of Canadaand the Hudson Bay Company reached an agreement for the transfer of Rupert s Land to the Canadian government. Among MГ©tis, however, questions arose on how the Company had gained ownership of the Northwest, when a multitude of natives of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The consequent efforts of government surveyors to map Red River without regard for local residents holdings resulted in the establishment of the MГ©tis National Committee, and a provisional government in late 1869. These events established Louis Riel as the leader of the MГ©tis resistance. After consolidating their alliance with the Half breed population and the old British settler population, the three constituencies formed the Provisional Government of Assiniboia s Legislative Assembly in March 1870, and sent a delegation to Ottawa to negotiate Red River s entrance into Confederation. The outcome was the Manitoba Act, which established Manitoba as a new province in Confederation as well as several other commitments to protect MГ©tis landholdings including a 1.1.4 million acre and reserve, language and local political control over the new province. However, the agreement recorded by the Provisional Government s chief negotiator varies in important ways from the Manitoba Act, and MГ©tis leaders have argued since the 19th century that the original agreement has never been properly ... • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Evangelism A mission conference held in Edinburg in 1910 became an historical marker in current evangelical mission development. The theme of the conference was the evangelization of the world in this generation. This conference presented the missionary task primarily as bringing people to Christ and gathering them into churches. As it was a time of positive momentum in world history, social justice issues arising from the world s problems were seemingly being solved by science and technology on many fronts: in health, industry, economics, and education. In this climate of momentum, the church projected its primary task as evangelizing the whole world. However, the twentieth century failed to deliver on the promise of unending positive progression. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The missio Dei became everything God was doing in the world with or without the church. Mission was seen as happening wherever, however, and by whomever the will of God is done on earth. This included non Christians to whom the concept of the will of God is completely unknown or rejected. In contrast, evangelical Protestantism has maintained that the church remains at the centre of the mission of God. God s mission is specifically located in the church, in the redeemed people of God and what they have been commissioned to do under the authority of Jesus with the promise of his presence (Mt 28:18 20). Consequently, the church s mission flows from the mission of God. We are privileged to participate in the great narrative of what God is doing throughout the world in calling people to himself and establishing his kingdom. But what is important for memories is whether we can differentiate between accurate and inaccurate ones. The first study has tested two different approaches on subjects, and neither were helpful in determining the validity of a memory. On the other hand, in the fourth study it was concluded that it is possible to assess whether a particular eyewitness is true or false based on the approach the witness used to recall the information. He as the eldest and most suitable of the four sons of Dasharatha has been earmarked for the kingship form the beginning. The King his father makes no secret of his wishes to see Rama in the throne. The sages Viswamitra, who takes Ramaand Lakshmana on a sort of tour of duty to conquer some rakshasas who were creating havoc among the gentle tapasas , the raj guru( royal teacher), the ministers all agree that Rama is the ideal candidate for being crowned as the future king. The people of Ayodya loved Rama and were overjoyed at the news of his coronation. Yet, when the king is coerced into ordering him to forsake all that and banish him to spend fourteen years in the forest, he accepts without any protest. He calms down the outrage of his brother and the courtiers on his behalf. When the people follow him to the forest, he asks them to go back and live as ideal citizens. The answer to that is when the moral fiber of a leader is corrupted it will result in the downfall of his organization also. I was pacing back and forth really deciding what I want to run for. Do I want to run for this or that? What are the pros and what are the cons. Would anyone make fun of me? One in particular was my best friend Alyson Jones. She and I have been friends since the first month of school in first grade! When I skipped a grade she was my first friend that I made, and we intend to keep our friendship long lasting and keep in touch, up to today. It was the day. I was extremely nervous about talking to the 900 people at my school. The lunch that day was the quickest lunch I had ever had. It felt like it was 10 minutes. Then the most exciting but dreaded part of the day came, the moment I had been waiting for. All of the students who were running for any office, would go through the back door on to the stage, as we all saw the kids flooding in through the doors. Most countries in the world adopt democracy, and so do United States and South Korea. However, it doesn t mean that not both countries laws are same. There are some similar and different points between United Statesand South Korea in their laws to protect individual rights. There are five similar points in their laws. Firstly, the Second Amendment is about right for having arms and army. However, there is no Article in Korean Constitution about it and it is illegal. Secondly, the Third Amendment is about protection from quartering of army, but this also doesn t exist in Korean Constitution. Thirdly, the Seventh Amendment is about civil trial by jury, and laws related to this point don t exist in Korea. However, there is a noticeable point in Korea, which is called Civil Participation in Criminal Trials. It has been enforced since 2008 and is same with United States in terms of having jury, but there are two crucial differences. In Korea, jury can only participate in criminal cases and their verdicts have no legal binding forces, just advisory effects. Fourthly, the Ninth Amendment is about protection of rights not specified in the Bill of Rights, and Korea does not have laws involving this aspect naturally because the Korean Government does not adopt the Bill of Rights. Lastly, the Tenth Amendment is about powers of states and people, but this point is vague. The concept of powers of people can applied to both United States and Korea, but the concept of powers of state can t because the Korean Government does not have federal system. • 11. Causes And Disadvantages Of Eutrophication Eutrophication is the process by which an aquatic environment acquires a higher concentration of two important nutrients: phosphates and nitrates in a certain environment. This promotes excessive growth of algae on the surface of the water. Living things need some specific nutrients to survive. Usually nature provides just the specific amount of nutrients, but too many nutrients can cause dangerous problems to the environment. This is presented in aquatic systems. However the problems can also increase when aquatic environments such as lakes or rivers have an overabundance of nutrients, when this happens eutrophication appears. • 12. 1984 Manipulation Of Love Essay Edmund Burke once said, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as hate. In other words, when one becomes enveloped in the emotion of hate, similarly to that of love, it can alter one s thought and ability to make decisions. Love and hate are the two most powerful emotions and are seen at the core of humanity; however, it is ironic that such strong emotions can be so easily manipulated. George Orwell considers this idea in his novel 1984 and reveals the relationship between love and hate in a dystopian society. Throughout the novel, it is clear to see how one is able to gain love and power based on the manipulation of hate and fear; this can be seen through the analysis of the Party s views of Emmanuel... • 13. Andean Cocaine Essay Andean Cocaine traces the obscure processes and transformations of the global coca and cocaine commodity chain. Gootenberg documents the lore of the Andean coca leaf, the birth of cocaine as a medical commodity, the early twentieth century decline cocaine, and its reemergence as a global illicit good following World War II. The commodity chain of coca and cocainebegan with the extraction of alkaloidal cocaine from the dried Andean coca leaf. This discovery by German doctoral student Albert Niemann would soon transform cocaine into a world drug commodity. Initially, cocaine was essential as a high value medical commodity. Medical uses of cocaine included treatment of opiate addiction, hay fever, asthma, or other respiratory ailments. Cocaine s greatest medical impact in the United States was as a local anesthetic during surgery. In Europe, cocaine s commodity chain was defined by the coca elixir Vin Mariani developed by Corsican physician and chemist Angelo Mariani. Leonardo Vetria Research Paper When physicist Leonardo Vetra is found murdered with the word Illuminati branded onto his chest, Maximilian Kohler, the director of CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research), contacts Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon for help. Kohler has Langdon flown to CERN. Langdon explains the role of the Illuminati a secret society of artists, scientists, and freethinkers as a long standing enemy of the Catholic Church. While Langdon is explaining this, and learning more about Vetra s research, Vetra s adopted daughter, Vittoria, who is also a physicist, joins them. Vittoria and her father had created antimatter in a CERN lab. This was doubly important to her father because he was a priest, and the discovery promised to give humanity access to the secrets of creation. However, it is also a great threat because antimatter explodes when it comes into contact with normal matter. This becomes a pressing issue when they learn that their biggest sample has been stolen, and the battery that generates the magnetic field (and keeps the antimatter stable) has only a twenty four hour life span. • 15. The House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros The Street That Changed a Life The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros, displays a great emphasis on culture and people helping form a young girl into a young lady. The main character, Esperanza, has to navigate a mentally and physically challenging life growing up in a poor, Hispanic neighborhood while still learning how to mature and rise above the poverty that surrounds her. Thus, the question arises: in what way and to what extent does close human interaction change Esperanza s life and set her on the path to being accomplished? Being around people such as her friends, family and neighbors cause Esperanza to realize what she wants in life and how to gain the maturity needed to escape the troubles of Mango Street. Mango... Even though Esperanza does not like the house, it is a very special thing to her family, The house on Mango Street is ours, and we don t have to pay rent to anybody, or share the yard with the people downstairs, or be careful not to make too much noise, and there isn t a landlord banging on the ceiling with a broom (Cisneros 3). This is the first sign of Esperanza s transformation to a new and better life which will be guided by the wisdom and ignorance of people neighboring her family. Esperanza s family has a heavy impression on her. Being the eldest out of four children made her have to mature fast if she wanted to care for her younger siblings properly. Talk about your perspective of working with Reclamation in your role at the Interstate Stream Commission. Talk about your perspective of Reclamation, what s it s like to be Commissioner, and any thoughts about your end of term. Today, I would like to talk about: Reclamation s Present Role and Future Involvement with Indian water rights settlements. And I would like to highlight a few of the settlements where Reclamation has been actively engaged: oTaos Pueblo Water Rights Settlement, Hualapai Water Rights Settlement, and Blackfeet Tribe Water Rights Settlement. Present Role and Future Involvement: This Administration has strongly supported Indian water rights settlements and the water needs of tribal communities. Indian water rights settlements are consistent with the federal trust responsibility to tribes and with federal policy promoting Indian self determination and economic self sufficiency. As I have witnessed here first hand, settlements can end decades of controversy and contention concerning water issues among tribes and neighboring communities replacing those conflicts with certainty, fostering cooperation in water resource management and promoting healthy economies. However, 2 years ago I got a French bulldog, and she s one of the things I love most. That just shows how lovable these dogs are. Sometimes they re silly looking, or have bad attitudes or behavior, and usually have a lot of problems, but they re still amazing. I never used to like them, but after getting one, I love them! First of all, French bulldogs are EXTREMLY expensive dogs, and can cost up to 2,5000 or more. It also depends on the color of the dog. There are all kinds of different colors of Frenchies, like blue, cream, red, red and black mask, pie, and plenty of others. Blue Frenchies, which are the most expensive, are gray and have blue tints to their fur, and also have blue eyes. My dog is a cream, which are usually white, with cream brown colors. There are many more colors, and too many to explain. I think the reason these dogs are so popular and expensive is their appearance. Aside from being lovable, I think the appearance of the French bulldogis a very important detail. Women usually like small dogs, right? Well, men usually don t care for those tiny, girly looking dogs. However, French bulldogs are tiny dogs, but they re big, muscular, and not girly. Among teenagers, being in a gang can enhance their popularity status with peers, who particularly are girls. A gang is a group of three or more individuals who make a name for themselves by creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Gangs tend to identify themselves by a collective name, a slogan, identifying sign, tattoos or other physical markings. Statistics show that the highest percentage of gang members are teenagers who range from the ages of 13 to 18. Being in a gang may seem like fun, or seem cool and exciting, but in actuality it is can be dangerous, unsafe and could be fatal. Gangs have been a part of society for many years. Most modern gangs started as a group of people working towards one common goal, protecting their neighborhood. I was considered part of the majority throughout all of grade school. However, this all changed as I began to stray from my normal crowd and participate in academic enrichment and pre medical programs. The very first time that I was reminded that I was the minority, and therefore inferior to many was when I attended a program called NYLF. The National Youth Leadership Forum allowed me to spend ten days at a medical forum with high school students from all over the world. When I arrived, I looked around and realized that out of about two hundred kids, only about fifteen looked like me. I also noticed that they had all congregated to the same area and had essentially secluded themselves. Determined not to stay in my comfort zone and expose myself to new things, I decided to sit at a different table. A few days into the program, several disappointing things became clear. I began to observe ignorant remarks, disapproving glares, and belittling attitudes from many of my surrounding peers. Admittedly, it did make me somewhat upset to know that so many felt that because I was a black girl, I did not deserve to be at this program. It became evident that many of my opinions, thoughts, and responses to activities were quickly discounted on most occasions. Some people believe that they give us a view into the future while others believe that they tell us more about ourselves. Historically, they were once believed to be symptoms of mental illness. It was through the work of Sigmund Freud, a psychoanalyst, that the value of dreams was shifted; we were able to learn the significance of the information that they gave us ( Dreamin History , para. 9). In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses dreams and nightmares to share information with the reader on Victor. The media should stop making the pit bull seem vicious because the term pit bullencompasses more than one breed of dog, all dogs can be aggressive, and they were once America s dog. Incase we ve forgotten, all dogs are descendants of the wolf. Somewhere along the line we assumed that because the dog has been domesticated that we no longer have anything to fear. This concept, however, isn t true. All animals act instinctively, they don t act accordingly to their training. As long as their owners are present they might behave properly but who is to say how they will act when their owner is no longer present. We have to remember that we all have that flight or fight mode and therefore when faced with fear or danger we might not act logically but instead instinctively. The reasons why a pit bull or any animal may attack are to protect, for territory, possession, out of fear, to defend, for social status, frustration, and when in pain (ASPCA, para. 7 13). Often times, temptation creeps into our minds unexpectedly, but temptation s effects are deadly. This can be defined as the extent to which a website facilitates efficient and effective shopping, purchasing and delivery (Zeithaml et al., 2000). Over the next four years, it is estimated that the number of online buyers in the UK will rise by over half of the UK s current population, from 26.9 million to 31.8 million (marketresearch.com). Clearly, this is a very large and profitable market, with businesses securing increasing numbers of sales online each year (British Retail Consortium). Higher website quality leads to higher profitability levels (Vanitha et al, 1999), therefore having an efficient and effective website is crucial for obtaining sales, and e SQ is a major factor in securing customer loyalty (Cristobal et al, 2007). Some academic researchers have created comprehensive scales to measure e SQ. Simply stated, outsourcing is a practice employed by some companies in order to reduce cost by transferring work to third party suppliers rather than keeping the work within the company. The most widely known example of a company which outsources jobs is Apple. Rather than keeping the manufacturing of its products in the United States, Apple chooses to outsource jobs to a third party, major manufacturer in China called Foxconn, famous for providing the world with iPhones, iPads, and many other Apple products. Many children have an ideal image of who they want to be, and often their parents have a conflicting view on who they would like to see their child become. In the story Two Kinds the Narrator has a rebellious attitude towards the aspirations of her mother. The amount of pressure placed on her and her lack of success causes sadness in the main charactersince she was not able to perform the way her mother wanted. Similarly, the main character from The Lone Rangerand TontoFistfight in Heaven experiences a feeling of inferiority from the racial discrimination and lack of financial success in his life. In the story Two Kinds the Narrator does not want to become the prodigy her mother wishes her to be. The idea of becoming a famous actor or musician, like Shirly Temple, was a noble idea from her mother since she only wanted to see her daughter succeed. The pressure she placed on her daughter to follow her orders and be obedient, however, was not in the likeness of the daughter s interests. This example is evident when the author s mother states [There are] Only two kinds of daughters, she shouted in Chinese. Those who are obedient and those who follow their mind! Only one kind of daughter can live in this house. (Tan 242) The fight that occurs between the narrator and her mother causes a sudden shift in tone, which indicates that the mother no longer held the same high Johnson 2 expectation from her daughter. Throughout the story, the main character struggles with her identity. The narrator s family was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. A Report On The Fire INTRODUCTION This is a report compiled by Musawenkosi Nkabinde a student at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University while conducting practicals in the kingdom of Swaziland at a company called Montigny Forest Products. It is a company of about plus minus 75 000 hacters where a variety of species are planted e.g. Pinus elliote, Patula, Taeda, Pexq, Eucalyptus Smithii, dannai etc. All these are planted for different products dominating one being the production of planks which means the company keeps many of its trees for many years till they mature. The main purpose of this report is to give clarity on the fire, to determine the origin, determine causes of the fire, damages caused by the fire and to develop ideas on how can unwanted fires like these can be prevented from reoccurring in our plantations like the one occurred in compartment C22 on the17 of JULY 2015 at 17:00pm till 23:00pm. A number of plus minus 600 pinus Elliote trees were affected by this fire. HISTORY OF THE AREA It had been known for years that the belt dividing C22 and C14 has a problem with smoldering materials, usually when that belt is burnt a tanker and two labourers are left behind extinguishing the smoldering woods ensuring nothing lights up, but on this day the tanker had a breakdown two days ago so it was unavailable and the was no other resource to take up its place it. Nearby these compartments are wattle jungles which are always feared when burning fire belts knowing that once they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Friedrich Nietzsche s Thus Spoke Zarathustra In the late 19th century, philosopher and psychologist, Friedrich Nietzsche, published a four part chronicle, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, to express his perspective on how human beings can work towards and achieve a lifestyle of joy and innocence. Nietzsche, who was an anti christ due to its slavish mentality and ways, believed that everyone has an overman and ubermensch aspect to their lives, where they can be free spirited and the ultimate dictator of their morals and values. For one to live a life of free of predestined expectations and societal pressures, they must be constantly overcoming themselves, have the will to power over themselves, and must accept the past in order to authentically affirm their identity. Every task in life can be seen as a burden, you re expected to be cleanly and brush your teeth, you re obligated to wear clothes in public, you re supposed to wash your hands after you go to the bathroom. Although all of these examples seem like the right thing to do, they are also examples of being enslaved to a certain way of life, ruled by society. The first case of ZIKV was identified in Uganda in 1947. Cases of this virus were rare until 2007 when a major epidemic happened in Yap Island, Micronesia. Now, epidemics have happened in Polynesia, Easter Island, the Cook Islands, Brazil, and New Caledonia (Ioos et al., 2014). During the first week of infection, the virus is in the blood and can be passed from an infected person to a mosquito. An infected mosquito can then spread the virus to other people. For instance, in the event that we need to prescribe papers (references) to clients in Cite ULike, the reference relations between papers are useful for suggesting papers with comparable subjects. Different case of thingnet works can be found in hyperlinks among site pages, motion pictures coordinated by the same executives, et cetera. A wireless sensornetwork (WSN) consists of spatially distributed autonomous sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions and to cooperatively pass their data through the network to a main location. Routing in WSNs is very challenging due to the inherent characteristics that distinguish these networks from other wireless networks like mobile ad hoc networks or cellular networks. Due to the relatively large number of sensor nodes, it is not possible to build a global addressing scheme for the deployment of a large number of sensor nodes as the overhead of ID maintenance is high. Thus they require careful resource management. This paper describes various routing protocols and their comparison and working of LEACH protocol and enhanced LEACH protocol. Antarctica is considered a desert due to the fact that it barely rains and how dry it is around the continent. The weather temperature in Antarctica can go as low as 89.6 degrees celsius and a high of 12.3 degrees celsius with an average temperature of 49 degrees celsius. This is because of the height above sea levels, the atmosphere and the land masses around Antarctica which is why the continent is an extremely cold place. In Antarctica the strong winds that are caused is due to the strong winds which are the katabatic winds. It is the job of nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals to recognize and communicate when there is a need for change or improvement in order for patients to receive the highest standard of care and optimal health outcomes. The creation and implementation of Rapid Response Teams were one of the many strategies initiated in the 100,000 Lives Campaign (2004) instituted by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in effort to reduce morbidity and mortality in the United States health care system. This underutilization is shown to lead to failure to rescue. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between nurses decision making model during RRT activation and the frequency of the RRT activation (Parker, 2014). Lauri and Salantera (2002) have identified three decision making models that are utilized by nurses to make clinical judgments based off of information processing and intuitive humanistic theories (Parker, 2014). The first model is the analytical decision making, which involves the collection of data, forming a hypothesis and continuing to collect data until a decision has been reached (Parker, 2014). Secondly, the intuitive decision making is understanding without rationale (Parker, 2014). The third model is a combination of the analytical and intuitive decision making. • 50. Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic framework of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It enables interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence stratigraphy uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the depositional settings of the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of the extent and character of the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally designed for seismic sections, but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It now provides a powerful method and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects. The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977). And it is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). The systems tracts are divided into Falling Stage Systems Tract/Forced Regressive Wedge Systems Tract (FSST/ FRWST), Lowstand Systems Tract (LST), Transgressive Systems Tract (TST) and Highstand Systems Tract (HST); and are bounded by surfaces which consist of ...
