Rotc Personal Statement
I have always had an interest in military service. I believe that it is important for a person to serve his
or her country in the best way that they can, and for me, I think that best contribution I can make is
through service in the military. For a long time I intended to pursue a career in the Navy through the
ROTC program at Arizona State University. However, in June of 2014 that plan changed. My older
brother had just been accepted to the Air Force Academy and my father and I drove him to Phoenix to
meet with other accepted students from Arizona. I particularly remember one of the generals coming
over to our table and asking me if I was going to be cadet; I told him that I wanted to. The general
smiled and told me Well, you can . Until he said that I hadn t realized that acceptance to a service
academy was a goal within my grasp. At that moment I knew I was going to apply. ... Show more

I have been on the team for the last two years and I have achieved quite a bit, both as an individual
and with my team. More importantly, through Academic Decathlon I have learned self discipline, how
to encourage others, how to handle stress, and how to take responsibility for myself. The most
important factor in Academic Decathlon is self discipline; it is up to you to make yourself study and
achieve your goals, no one else can do that for you. I have also learned how to be a leader. My coach
has told me that my hard work inspires others, my positive attitude encourages moral, and my
enthusiasm for what I do contributes to a positive work environment for my teammates. I have also
learned how to take responsibility for my actions and accept that no one else is responsible for my
failures but me. These are all attributes that I believe would translate well into a service academy
environment and a career in the

Jem And Scout s Relationship Analysis
Harper Lee s classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, wonderfully portrays the rises and falls of a close
sibling relationship. Jem Finch is ten years old and just beginning to understand and evaluate the
world around him, including his sister, Scout. Jem and Scout are close, but then grow apart due to Jem
s newfound independence, but grow close again once they both mature enough. Jem s evaluations of
school, teachers, peers, neighbors, family, gender roles, race relations, and himself greatly affect this
change in relation with his sister. Jem s changing relationship with his sister highlights his changing
perception and values. When Scout and Jem are six and ten respectively, they abide by Atticus and
Calpurnia s boundaries, but with contrasting responses; while Jem obediently stays within the rules,
Scout challenges them, only complying with great effort. Despite their age difference, the siblings
play together as a team based off of mutual trust. Jem is the leader of this team and is often a source of
knowledge, restraint, and judgment. For example, when they meet Dill, Scout s impression of him is
that he is strange, and she does not thoroughly approve. When she moves to challenge him, Jem
intervenes. ...Jem told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jem, the eldest, is often the leader of the two and at a young age, they relied on one another as
playmates, so he utilized his greater authority to make fair and peaceful decisions. Later, as Jem grows
up, he craves independence and believes himself superior to Scout, mainly for reasons of gender and
age. He bosses her around, because her actions contradict his beliefs of right and wrong, superior and
inferior. Eventually, Jem learns to accept and respect her difference, and although they are no longer
codependent, they can still function as a team. From this, it is clear that Jem has grown apart from
Scout, but his values allow him to support her regardless of their

Research Paper On Mary
Mary was the mother of Jesus Christ. Mary was also a saint of the lord. God came down and told her.
You are going to be blessed with a child of, god. And you will be the virgin Mary of, God. Mary was
blessed by Jesus. When she had Jesus, god gave her to never sin. He never did.
Mary is one of the most admired figures in scripture and considered by many to be the greatest of all
Christian saints. She becomes a saint. An angel comes down to her and say you are having a child of
god. God picks her because she thought she was a wonderful person to have this child. Mary thought
she was not special.
While her life held great honor, her calling also required great suffering. God gave Mary not to sinned,
but she never did even if he could. When mary had Jesus her mission was to witness what God has
given her. The gift of life. When she was blessed by jesus, she becomes a saint. Mary is recognized
most as the mother of God s only Son. But how much do we know about the details of her life? ...

Educational policies and procedures need to be reviewed on a regular basis to keep them up to date.
Senior members of staff will gather together to discuss what needs to be amended and updated within
the policies and procedures. A senior member of staff will then draft the new policy or procedure and
send it over to the governors to be agreed. These are in place to ensure that the school is run correctly,
and the staff, pupils and any other individual within the school are protected and meeting the
expectations and guidelines.
1. Summarise the roles and responsibilities of national and local government for education policy and
practice.
The roles and responsibilities of: National government
The department for education is responsible for the education and services for children. This means
that they are responsible for not only setting the national curriculum but for also many other roles.
They are responsible for the early year s foundation stage which the schools and nurseries operate by,
they will also use it to look into new ways to develop the quality of services which are available to the
children under the five outcomes of every child matters. These five are enjoy and achieve, stay safe,
be healthy, achieve economic well being and to make a positive contribution. Some of the other roles
and responsibility that the department of education have are: funding research into educational

My First 12 Step Meeting
For posterity s sake, I tried to recall my first 12 step meeting and have concluded that it was most
likely the year 1996, it was cold in the little town of Altoona. The clubhouse was strange, dark,
smelled of coffee, and full of smoke there, the people were all so different, but all of them seemed to
know some secret code, plus they seemed to talk as if reading bumper stickers. As I kept coming back,
I began to feel more comfortable, understand what was going on, and want what these people had.
People at these meetings were open, appeared comfortable in their own skins, and had such, dramatic,
fascinating stories that were dark, yet somehow uplifting. Since that time, I have been to a plethora of
various types of meetings at various locations, but there is a theme throughout of trust, and a bond of
acceptance that makes one feel welcome wherever one goes to a meeting. Therefore, I had a plan to go
to Allentown with my fiancée to an NA meeting he used to go to on Saturday night, however, as things
sometimes happens, this did not go as planned. Not to worry, I have learned long ago that alternative
meetings can work just as well, or better. In fact, for all the meetings I have attended, I have never
regretted going, or not gotten something out of it. Ending up going to one of my favorite meeting
places, all worked out for the best, as I felt it would. The Sunday Morning Speakers Group D 33 at the

Homeless People Position Essay
One of the problems at hand that not only us, in the United States have but, all around the world in
different countries have, is homeless people.
According to Social Solutions there are 564,708 people in the United States that are homeless as of
2016. 15% of the homeless are chronically homeless, which means an individual who has disability
and has experienced homelessness for a year or longer. 35% are families who can t afford housing, 8%
of the homeless are veterans due to poverty and overcrowding in government housing, and the rest of
the homeless are single young adults who either got rejected for being who they are or there was
conflict and they ran away.( Social Solutions) The National Alliance to End Homelessness explains,
Homeless youth are less likely to spend time in the same places as homeless people who are in an
older age range. They are often less willing to disclose that they re experiencing homelessness or may
not even identify as homeless. They also may work harder to try to blend in with peers who aren t
homeless. (The National Alliance to End Homelessness).
So even though people don t see homeless young adults as often as they see middle age ones or older,
they re there, they just try to blend in as one of their peers. Compare to 2014 the USA is doing great.
In 2014 poverty was 20% higher than it is today. The higher the poverty rate ... Show more content on

re about to leave, donate clothes to them, people can even give them a little bit of pocket money and it
would help. A person doesn t need to give a thousand dollars, an eye and pearl neckless to help a

The Use Of Corporal Punishment The Lad
Hardman is indeed one of those lads who doesn t realise just how far they push things inappropriately.
If this isn t addressed, then the lad will end up in some serious trouble. Staff Wilding knows that he
needs to steer the lad back onto the straight and narrow and that the only way to do this, is to
administer a very serious dose of pain. With game, hard lads like young Hardman, the only real
solution is to make sure every dose of Corporal Punishment the lad gets is so severe that the amount
and intensity of pain that is administered to his buttocks makes the lad toe the line, for fear of how bad
it will be if he needs another dose. Lads like young Hardman will always present a challenge to any

There should always be a general level of fear of punishment when dealing with lads and men it is
ultimately the only way to keep them in line and focussed on going forward in the right direction. It
also brings out the best in proper lads and men because they grow through endurance in
adversity. Fear of a punishment is indeed fundamental to the success of a lad s
punishment regime. As you say, that fear needs to be high enough to make him change his ways and
want to avoid being punished. The greater a lad s suffering, the better it is for him, as it both addresses
the atonement element and also makes him want to avoid that level of suffering again. Plus, I couldn t
agree more, that the greater the challenge that the lad has to overcome, because he s enduring pain at
levels that he s never experienced before, the better and stronger that the lad will be when he gets
through it.  Staff Wilding is a hard and resolute man, who knows that it will ultimately
do the lad good, even though he will suffer greatly in the process. But it has to be done and this really
is what Hardman needs, because when he is being really challenged by his birching, it will make him
think about what he has done to deserve it and what he needs to do to avoid another taste of the Army
Birch in the future. I hope this means that the next time Staff Wilding has to administer the

Physician Assisted Suicide Should Be Considered More Than...
When we think about issues that are surrounded by a lot of debate in bioethics we think about topics
such as Abortion, Stem Cell Research, Genetic Enhancement, Euthanasia and Physician Assisted
Suicide. Each of these debates comes with its own ethical issues and discussion about the
permissibility or impermissibility of each topic. Every one of these topics is complex and deserves
careful consideration when trying to determine what is right ethically and which principles in ethics
need to be considered more than others. The topic of interest in this paper is Physician Assisted
Suicide and the principles that inform our discussion of PAS and how to make sense of the arguments
surrounding PAS. Individuals who are found to be competent and ... Show more content on

When discussing PAS, we are not advocating that anyone who no longer wants to live should have
access to the method of palliative care, instead we are saying that those wishing to request this should
meet certain criteria. The states that have already legalized PAS have set guidelines on when someone
can access these services, and according to Radbruch, In contrast to the legal requirements in
European countries, in Oregon, Washington, [Montana,] and Vermont, patients must have a terminal
physical illness in order to qualify for PAS (Radbruch). So these criteria require the individuals
seeking PAS to have a terminal illness which excludes those who might request this based on their
perceived quality of life. Physician Assisted Suicide is a hot topic and will continue to dominate the
bioethics stage for the foreseeable future. The next concept that needs to be addressed is the slippery
slope argument, Beauchamp explains that in his opinion: Judging from the past track record of our
society, we should seriously take into account that the slope of the trail toward the unjustified taking
of life will be so slippery and precipitous that we ought to never embark on it (Gabriel). One premise
of this argument is that if a system has no clear cut guidelines, there is a lot of room for abuse of the
system to occur. Another premise is that if we allow PAS society might start to value

Conflict In Amores Perros
Mexico doesn t exist. Mexico is a collection of regions, a mosaic united by force. And now that the

Carlos Salinas? Nothing more (media representative, Mexico, 2000).
Amores Perros, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu is a dark, multi plot film never seems to lose
it s hold on you. The grime within the film, carried by it s subject matter makes for a very compelling
watch. The three storylines we see interlink excellently, constantly showing you the way these
characters lives link up with one another. From the beginning, we see the life of the Mexican

The three aspects of the film are in some form, against the normality s. We see the Illegal Dog
Fighting, The life of an Assassin, and then a Cheating Husband. This questions the point of authority
in Amores Perros as it seems that there is no real consequence for these people s actions, other than
the loss of their dog, or their spirit animal. A prime example of this is when Valeria s dog, Richie is
trapped under the floorboards of her house, this can be viewed as a reflection of her position in life at
that time, her cheating with Daniel, and the fact she loses the opportunity to be a model, is represented
by the Dog being trapped under the floor. However, even with this small reprimanding of each
character it still poses the question of authority in the Film. Iñárittu comments on Immigration heavily
in his personal life. This can be seen also in Amores Perros as each of the characters are seen as
outcasts to the world, with the exception of Valeria. Despite this, Iñárittu makes each character really
interesting, making the mundane important, Highlighting the pandemic of Immigration seen in
Mexico, Iñárittu is quoted to have

Some of the characteristics of graduate writing are the level of detail that is added to the writing, the
length of writing, and the proper use of citation and references. Graduate level writing adds more
detail to any study. Undergraduate students may write about a point with two or three topics but a
graduate student will take those two or three topics and break them down into subtopics.
Undergraduate students typically are typically advised to write a paper that consist of five hundred
words or so but a graduate student will have to write a twelve hundred to fifteen hundred word essay

Improving Phonological Awareness
It is often understood that educators are charged with the responsibility to educate children in a
holistic way. As such, educators must have the best interest of their students at heart if their objective
is to teach well. They can prevent the students from failure when they recognize that their students are
not heading in the path to success. It is greatly recognize that reading is essential in the development
of a child as previous mentioned, Davis and Davis (2014) referered to reading as the building block of
life. The different studies analyzed on the correlation of phonological awareness and reading exposed
that phonological awareness is an important factor in learning to read or improving reading skills in
struggling reads. However, there are other skills that a child s need to master for him/her to become an
avid reader. As documented in this study, there have been many intense studies for over the past three
decade on struggling readers lacking phonological awareness. Being a struggling reader can lead to
their low academic performance in core subject areas like Math and English may lead them to develop

Orson Welles Influences

Orson Welles was born to two highly educated parents, Richard and Beatrice, who taught him to play

in his young years he was introduced to much of the world around him, his childhood wasn t exactly
happy. When he was four years old his parents separated, and by the time he was nine his mother
would be dead from jaundice. When we was thirteen his father died as well, this time do to his
alcoholic nature. Luckily Orson Welles was taken in by a man named Maurice Bernstein, who fostered

People just say the word without thinking what it really refers to, but does everyone really understand

important to know what the word friendship really means. Not everyone is going to have the same

I don t have anything bad associated with friendship. Friendship is very important to me, because it
means a lot. Friendship to me, means having someone that I know will always be there for me. It
means having a shoulder to cry on if I ever need it. I think it is important to have a friend that listens
to you and that understands. Also, it s important that they keep all your secrets even if you don t tell
them they have to. Having a friend that is down to go on adventures all the time is extremely
important to me, because I love to explore. Friendship requires a lot of honesty and trust for me. I
want to be able to trust my friends and I hope they are always honest with me. Comfort is a huge thing
to have in friendships, because I want to be able to feel comfortable around my friends. I love being
able to turn to my friends when things are rough, knowing that they ll be able to make me feel better.
Friendship is sitting in the back of a room in the corner, all by ourselves but still laughing and smiling.
To me, friendship means everything. It doesn t just mean being friends with someone, it means a lot
more. A lot of people question why friendship is so important. It is very important to have real friends.

tells the same tale of Beowulf s courageous attempt, while presenting the story from Grendel s point
of view, a new spin on the age old story. Point of view plays a huge role in these stories, with Beowulf
being read by a omniscient narrator whose god like abilities seems to allow them to bounce around
from the past, present, and future. Grendel, on the other hand, is completely in first person and rarely
ventures away from that point of view, only when Grendel seems to have the ability to read people s

Nor have I seen a mightier man at arms on this earth than the one standing here: unless I am mistaken,
he is truly noble. This is no mere hanger on in a hero s armour, (19 Heaney). This scene shows just
how majestic and heroic Beowulf is and the point of view allows us to see what everyone is thinking
in every situation, giving us a god like view of the story. This constant input from all pieces of the
story aids the reader in seeing Beowulf as a true hero, primarily because of this abrupt assumption by
the Danish coast guard. Beowulf s grandiose image reinforces the notion of what a hero looks and acts
like and without the omniscient point of view it wouldn t be the

Miss Awful
In Miss Awful by Arthur Cavanaugh, Virginia Clark describes her son, Roger, as a lively, outgoing
youngster (160), but some events determine Roger as caring and a boy who perserveres on top of his
fun side. Early in the story, Roger is telling his family all about his unproductive day at school and can
t help but tell them that one day his class got up from laying on the floor and got up and did the
Mexican hat dance (161). This is how Roger is proved lively and energetic because he only tells his
family about the fun parts of school, and doesn t tell them about, say, a spelling test or maybe a math
worksheet they had to do. At this time, Roger s mother remembers how Roger had done a good deed
just for a cat, he had carried down saucers

Examples Of Bravery In Nightjohn
Bravery NightJohn written by Gary Paulsen is written about a knowledged southern slave named
NightJohn. NightJohn is a male slave traveling plantations teaching other slaves the tool of reading
and writing. A little girl named Sarny meets NightJohn and wants to read and write. Struggling to keep
a secret Sarny slowly learns while NightJohn pays the price. Traveling during nights to pit school
NightJohn grasps the challenge with his bravery, fighting his owner, Weller, with ease. In the story
NightJohn characters learn to embrace bravery and stand up to obstacles they are not comfortable
with. To begin with, the slaves take on bravery by covering up for each other. For example one day
Sarny was practicing her writing in the dirt when Weller stumbles upon her. She quickly runs to
Mammy and hides behind her. Weller walks in the quarters and says Who is teaching her to read? .
Mammy replies back with Sir? acting like she is clueless when she really knows who is teaching her
to read (Page 64). This shows that Mammy was grasping ahold of her bravery to cover up for 12 year
old Sarny. She knows the consequences of lying to her owner but with bravery she stood up to an
obstacle she wasn t comfortable with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This explains that NightJohn knew it was his fault so within his bravery he owned up to it to overcome

Break Break Break Analysis
The poem Break, Break, Break was composed by Lord Tennyson Alfred. Written in rhyming quatrain
stanzas with a trimeter rhythm, this piece of literature expresses the thoughts of a man who has
recently lost someone he was close to. Accordingly, the themes displayed in this poem are death,
sorrow, and passing time. The composer of the poem is unable to speak his mind, for his tongue will
not allow him to speak the thoughts that arise in [him] (4). This phrase displays the emotional distress
being experience by the author, as well as avoidance of responsibility for what he is unable to say. He
does not take claim of being unable to say his thoughts aloud but rather blames the inability on his
tongue. Later on in the poem, we learn of the reason for this emotional distress the author is
experiencing. The author longs for the touch of a vanished hand/And the sound of a voice that is still
(11 12). These two eerie indicators point the reader towards the conclusion that the author has lost
someone with whom he was close. The author continues to use the physical world to describe the one
he has lost, emphasizing the presence of death within the poem. The combination of his inability to
say what thoughts he has and his use of physical world descriptions for this missing person may
indicate that he is still in the early stages of grief, attempting to fully comprehend his loss. The author
includes implications of jealousy within his poem. This jealousy arises when he first observes a
fisherman s boy playing joyfully with his sister and then when he sees a sailor lad singing cheerfully
in his boat on the bay. These lines providing evidence of this begin with O well (5,7). The use of this
phrase before his observations leads the reader to the conclusion that he is jealous of the happiness of
these people. After suffering a great loss, one is inclined to wish they could once again experience the
joy they see in others. This is further evident with the presence of the statement of but the tender grace
of a day that is dead/Will never come back to me (15 16). The authors thoughts of jealousy and death
lead to the main theme of this poem, sorrow. The author recalls the day that he was able to enjoy the

Nullification Crisis Significance
The Nullification Crisis was significant. The Nullification Crisis started in 1828 when the Congress
passed a very high tariff on manufactured goods from Europe. The Southerners started protesting
against tariffs and called to secede from the United States. Since anger of tariffs continued to build in
the South, the Congress passed a new, lower tariff in 1832, hoping that the protest in the South would
die down. However, the South Carolina legislature passed the Nullification act, an act refusing to pay
the illegal tariffs of 1828 and 1832. If the federal government interfered then the South will continue
calling for secession and the union will split apart. The significance of the Nullification Crisis was that
it caused President Jackson

Role Of Violence In The Iliad

The Iliad: Greeks and Their Love for War
It has long been a popular scholarly opinion that the Greeks in the Iliad were lovers of war and
violence. The Greeks were most definitely primal beasts, and blood shedders, a fact made abundantly
clear in the Iliad. However, I think that the Greeks were not lovers of war, furthermore I think this
interpretation is shortsighted. The amount of violence in the Iliad seems to be evidence for their love
of war, but the ancient world was primal and passionate, and these ancient beasts were not strangers to
bloodshed and violence. Thus, I think the amount of violence in the Iliad does not perpetuate the
Greeks love for war, but rather shows their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a Greek hero kills a Trojan commander or hero, the Greeks rejoice because there was immediate
honor granted to the killer. He has done well for his name and his people, which is why the kill is
celebrated. If the Hero had slain a goat, the Greeks would not have rejoiced (unless they were
particularly famished that day), because the Greeks do not celebrate bloodshed for the sake of red,
they celebrate honor and immortality granted to those who exhibit greatness. This is also why I think
Homer and other story telling decedents choose to remember those that are bastards and those that are
highborn. A bastard being less honorable than a noble highborn man, and than those born from human
woman and a god for a father. I cannot accept that through millennia of retellings of the Iliad, such a
seemingly minuscule detail such as bastard would be kept without reason. The description bastard
appears many times during the bloodshed of the Iliad. In Book IV, As the javelin homed in on
Democoön, Pram s bastard son from his horse farm in Abydos (Homer, Iliad 4), it is again mentioned
the honor associated with the kill, a bastard boy, rather than a hero. Then, Meges kills Pedaeus in
Book V, Homer makes sure to detail Though he was a bastard... . Bastard was more clearly described
as being lesser and almost dishonorable in Book VII, when King Agamemnon addressed Teucer,
bastard of Telamon, ...and you will save the day for the Greeks, ... though you were a bastard.

Working successfully with others requires practical as well as personal skills. One of the main
advantages of working with others is that you can benefit from the skills of others that you may not
have yourself and share your own skills, and discovering your talents. For example, Sierra has lots of
good ideas and is good at putting them together. Sam is talkative and good at gathering ideas. Jacob is
a good listener and able to summarize at the end of a meeting.
Transition:
Now that you know a little about being able to work together,
let s look at coming up with better thoughts than an individual will come up with.
II. Students can see how different perspectives, constructive deliberation, questioning, and critical
analysis can result in better solutions and performance. If students take an exam individually and then
do the same exam as a group, the group exam score is almost always higher because students share
what they know, debate the answers, and through that process can often find their way to the right
answer.

to finish something that you have started? You re not alone. All of us at one time or another
experienced this. Not being able to concentrate on a specific goal or task at hand or even figuring out
the correct course of action to take. So, how do you know if you have a problem focusing? If you have
tasks or projects that you have not finished or lost interest in or simply did not follow through on, you
have a lack of focus. A repetition of these experiences can often make you feel like a failure because
you just don t seem to be able to accomplish anything meaningful. However, this is not the truth. If
you learn to focus properly, you have the ability to become successful at anything you do. It is a skill
you can learn. Why is focus so important? Focus helps you to do the following: 1) to set clear

Essay about Depression and Anxiety in Persons with...
Depression and Anxiety in Persons with Divorced Parents In the recent years, divorce rates have been
continually trending upwards (Reiter, Hjorleifsson, Breidablik, Meland, 2013). It is factual that
children who have parents that have divorced typically face more obstacles in numerous aspects of life
than children who have married parents. Children that experience divorce have up to a 300% increase
in probability to be impacted by issues in mental wellbeing than their peers without an incident of
divorce in their parental structure (Shifflett Cummings, 1999). These issues can arise due to the
various conflicts that may come into play throughout the divorce process, or even the mere experience
of parental divorce for the child. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether moderate or severe, divorce serves long term contributions to depression and anxiety in
children regardless of age (Chase Lansdale, Cherlin, Kiernan, 1995).
Mental and Emotional Adjustment in Divorce with Age Numerous factors come into play pertaining to
the age of a child that undergoes the experience of parental divorce. As time passes, most research
states that both anxiety and depression impact children of divorce rather steadily. However, even after
adjusting, these emotional impacts are extremely consistent throughout the progression of life
(Størksen et al., 2005). Due to the inability to cognitively process and identify reasons that lead to
divorce, kids around the pre kindergarten age range are naïve to the situation. Around this age,
children depend on parental support in daily life to carry out tasks. This alteration of family structure
will impact smaller children more than older children, as the older child will have more outlets to
channel their mental tension (Reiter et al., 2013). According to data, children may not adjust well
emotionally and display bouts of anxiety, which may develop into depression at later ages (Kline,

Sensory Response
The differences between male and female brains and how the work have been a very controversial
subject in the science world even in present time. In my project featuring the science of Neurology, the
study of the human brain; I will undergo an experiment to see whether male or female have a faster
sensory response time. Sensory response, or ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response), is the
response in the brain sorting gathered information of sensory such as touch, smell, hearing, taste, and

Past experiments such as one from the Colorado University which shows that men have an advantage

that everyone have a different level of focus, intelligent, and how pressured they feel when under a

range of age (Which in this case is 12 14 years old) because the same age group inhabits similar brains
in thoughts, attention span, and intelligence level. Different genders have their power points and flaws
such as women are proven to be better to respond to pressure and men are better when it comes to

An Organization Is A System
An organization is a system. A system s overall behavior depends on its entire structure, not the sum
of its various parts. The structure determines the various behaviors, which determine the various
events. It is critical that you do not break up a system into silos, but it equally critical that a company
acknowledges its strengths from workforce and keep these smaller systems tied together as one large
system. We will examine how the companies highlighted in the team presentations have achieved this
success. Companies can use pay as a reward or reinforcer. Several of the class presentations discussed
the issue of pay. There was a clear divide in how pay was used. Our evaluation is that the majority of
the presentations used pay as a reward. Our perception is that Park Nicollet (PN) they use pay as a
reinforcer. Luthans and Stajkovic call out in their article, Unless organizational participants are
reinforced for their performance related behaviors, strategies, designs and technologies may have little
impact. (Luthans Stajkovic 1999, p. 52). At PN, the system encourages and reinforces team culture,
collaboration and allowing employees to be actively involved in improvement projects. PN
professionals embrace and enjoy an environment of continuous process improvement. These
opportunities increase the strength and frequency of the collaboration behavior that is needed to a

Core Competence
The business world today is characterized by extreme competence. Clients are going for super made
goods and services. They want to feel the value for their money. In this regard, the idea of core
competence emerged. Fundamentally, core competence refers to an organization s strengths that make
it ahead of other organizations and these strengths make it possible for the company to add value to its
end products through innovation (Prajogo Ahmed, pp.499 515). Through the concept of core
competence companies are able to concentrate on what they are best gifted in and outsource what they
cannot do. This ensures that the products they produce cannot be copied easily be competitors.
Because of the competence, the skill can be used diversely to develop different products and greatly
add value.
Core competence is very vital in innovation because it is a defining aspect for the introduction,
implementation, sustenance and success of innovate ideas (Prajogo Ahmed, pp.499 515). Through
core competence, a company is capable of shaping innovative ideas at an angle that will take
competitors many years to copy and institute. For example, through the spirit of Kaizen, a company is
able to institute a culture of continual innovation which is aligned to the ideologies of core
competence. Each business organization wants to have brands that command the market and the only
way to make this happen is by using innovation. To protect the successful work of innovation, core

Commercial Whaling
Make the case for the resumption of commercial whaling as an international policy. Commercial
whaling has an abundant amount of utilizations. The main utilizations include food use, commercial
use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not
popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their
menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as
their main source of food. Within the pharmaceutical field, Russia, Norway, and Japan are counties
that take on studies for the medical uses of whale. Some of these uses are whale oil (omega 3s acid)

In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans
are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us
and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important
resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking
every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe
that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales
recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or
pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a
point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting
trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My
opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. If
that number starts to cause a decline in the population, it should be set lower. If the population
becomes endangered, I believe that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to
describe to the next generation what a whale looks like because there aren t any to show

When I say the word metal, what comes to mind? In the 1970s it was associated with
Satan worshiping cults, and Led Zeppelin. In the 1980s it was the over the hill style, wild partying,
hair metal bands that dressed like girls to get girls. Today metal is associated with the overdone metal
core genre that does everything the same as the next band. To me, metal culture
is more than this. I list to metal that is a balls to the wall music. It holds no bar, takes no prisoner and
doesn t bluntly give a crap what you or the next critic thinks. The bands my dad showed to me as a kid
were the fast speed metal bands of Anthrax, Metallica and Megadeth.
These bands will always kick ass. Their music to me will never go out of style because they sang and
wrote about the topics of war, religion, politics, addiction, and ones inner self. The metal music that
has always made it to more of a mainstream culture was and always be associated with girls. In the
1980s it was all about trying to get a party girl, and in today s era it s about how they broke up with
you. For me that s not real metal. I ve always been fascinated with thrash metal and new wave of
British heavy metal mainly. Thrash metal was what I

Summary Of The Article Easter Island By Jared Diamond
In the article by Jared Diamond, many interesting theories are discussed about Easter Island s history
and decline. Diamond makes connections to the environmental challenges we face today and he
compares the catastrophe of Easter Island to our current over consumption of natural resources. While
this article makes for an interesting read, much of it is offered from a single perspective and little
counter evidence is offered. The author writes in a way that could engage a non academic audience
who may not be interested in counter evidence, or proper referencing. The article lacks credibility due
to its narrow scope and conversational diction. At the root of this discussion however, is the notion
that the Rapa Nui people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his arguments, the author uses his own point of view, information from other people s research, and
from historical voyages without offering any proper references. Additionally, the author uses non
academic language to inspire literary imagery in order to make the article more attractive to potential
readers. This article does make for an interesting read, but it is far from accurate. In my opinion, the
author has cherry picked the evidence in order to create a scenario where the blame for the demise of
the ecosystem was places squarely on the native s shoulders which discounts any natural factors that
could have happened. The Rapa Nui were a complex society of people who utilized the land in
innovative ways. Indeed something catastrophic did take place, and I do not know exactly what that
was, but I do not believe it was solely greed and consumption that caused the downfall of an entire
society as the author would have you believe. The author mentions the use of carbon dating, pollen
analysis, archaeology, and paleontology to help develop a time frame of when the island was settled,
and when it encountered problems. This should have been discussed in more detail with proper
referencing in order to strengthen this article. These diciplines are useful and necessary to form a
forensic picture of what the island would have been like, and when it would have started to decline.

Analysis Of Rick Blain And His Internal Conflict
Analysis of Rick Blain and His Internal Conflict From the audience s perspective, Casablanca
(Michael Curtiz, 1942) is a romantic drama. The scene where Rick Blaine, the lead male, is at the bar
after seeing Ilsa Lund, his former lover, is the most dramatic moment in the film. The audience first
sees Rick alone at the bar drinking. Sam walks in the bar and has a powerful conversation with Rick.
The moment that these two characters share is dramatic because the audience is getting to see a side of
Rick that hasn t been seen yet. The audience is used to seeing Rick as the perfect man. After he sees
Ilsa, he breaks down, which is indicated by his heavy drinking, showing that he has a weakness. The
cinematography helps show the dynamic change in Rick. The shot distance allows the audience to see
Rick s facial expressions. Although Rick is seen as strong and independent, when he is reunited with
Ilsa, he is drawn into a darkness that he is struggling with in the scene; it is easy to see the struggle of
man vs. himself and the concept of masculinity. In this scene we see Rick in a vulnerable state after
having seen Ilsa for the first time in a year. The camera shot is varied from close ups to medium long
shots. When a close up is used the audience can see the emotions on Rick s face more clearly. He is
burdened with memories of the past. This breaks with the idea of masculinity because the audience
can clearly see that Rick is in distress. Men are burdened with social norms that

  • 2. Rotc Personal Statement I have always had an interest in military service. I believe that it is important for a person to serve his or her country in the best way that they can, and for me, I think that best contribution I can make is through service in the military. For a long time I intended to pursue a career in the Navy through the ROTC program at Arizona State University. However, in June of 2014 that plan changed. My older brother had just been accepted to the Air Force Academy and my father and I drove him to Phoenix to meet with other accepted students from Arizona. I particularly remember one of the generals coming over to our table and asking me if I was going to be cadet; I told him that I wanted to. The general smiled and told me Well, you can . I have been on the team for the last two years and I have achieved quite a bit, both as an individual and with my team. More importantly, through Academic Decathlon I have learned self discipline, how to encourage others, how to handle stress, and how to take responsibility for myself. The most important factor in Academic Decathlon is self discipline; it is up to you to make yourself study and achieve your goals, no one else can do that for you. I have also learned how to be a leader. My coach has told me that my hard work inspires others, my positive attitude encourages moral, and my enthusiasm for what I do contributes to a positive work environment for my teammates. I have also learned how to take responsibility for my actions and accept that no one else is responsible for my failures but me. These are all attributes that I believe would translate well into a service academy environment and a career in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jem And Scout s Relationship Analysis Harper Lee s classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, wonderfully portrays the rises and falls of a close sibling relationship. Jem Finch is ten years old and just beginning to understand and evaluate the world around him, including his sister, Scout. Jem and Scout are close, but then grow apart due to Jem s newfound independence, but grow close again once they both mature enough. Jem s evaluations of school, teachers, peers, neighbors, family, gender roles, race relations, and himself greatly affect this change in relation with his sister. Jem s changing relationship with his sister highlights his changing perception and values. When Scout and Jem are six and ten respectively, they abide by Atticus and Calpurnia s boundaries, but with contrasting responses; while Jem obediently stays within the rules, Scout challenges them, only complying with great effort. Despite their age difference, the siblings play together as a team based off of mutual trust. Jem is the leader of this team and is often a source of knowledge, restraint, and judgment. For example, when they meet Dill, Scout s impression of him is that he is strange, and she does not thoroughly approve. When she moves to challenge him, Jem intervenes. ...Jem told ... He bosses her around, because her actions contradict his beliefs of right and wrong, superior and inferior. • 6. My First 12 Step Meeting For posterity s sake, I tried to recall my first 12 step meeting and have concluded that it was most likely the year 1996, it was cold in the little town of Altoona. The clubhouse was strange, dark, smelled of coffee, and full of smoke there, the people were all so different, but all of them seemed to know some secret code, plus they seemed to talk as if reading bumper stickers. As I kept coming back, I began to feel more comfortable, understand what was going on, and want what these people had. People at these meetings were open, appeared comfortable in their own skins, and had such, dramatic, fascinating stories that were dark, yet somehow uplifting. Since that time, I have been to a plethora of various types of meetings at various locations, but there is a theme throughout of trust, and a bond of acceptance that makes one feel welcome wherever one goes to a meeting. Therefore, I had a plan to go to Allentown with my fiancée to an NA meeting he used to go to on Saturday night, however, as things sometimes happens, this did not go as planned. Not to worry, I have learned long ago that alternative meetings can work just as well, or better. In fact, for all the meetings I have attended, I have never regretted going, or not gotten something out of it. According to Social Solutions there are 564,708 people in the United States that are homeless as of 2016. 15% of the homeless are chronically homeless, which means an individual who has disability and has experienced homelessness for a year or longer. 35% are families who can t afford housing, 8% of the homeless are veterans due to poverty and overcrowding in government housing, and the rest of the homeless are single young adults who either got rejected for being who they are or there was conflict and they ran away.( Social Solutions) The National Alliance to End Homelessness explains, Homeless youth are less likely to spend time in the same places as homeless people who are in an older age range. They are often less willing to disclose that they re experiencing homelessness or may not even identify as homeless. They also may work harder to try to blend in with peers who aren t homeless. (The National Alliance to End Homelessness). So even though people don t see homeless young adults as often as they see middle age ones or older, they re there, they just try to blend in as one of their peers. There should always be a general level of fear of punishment when dealing with lads and men it is ultimately the only way to keep them in line and focussed on going forward in the right direction. As you say, that fear needs to be high enough to make him change his ways and want to avoid being punished. The greater a lad s suffering, the better it is for him, as it both addresses the atonement element and also makes him want to avoid that level of suffering again. When we think about issues that are surrounded by a lot of debate in bioethics we think about topics such as Abortion, Stem Cell Research, Genetic Enhancement, Euthanasia and Physician Assisted Suicide. Each of these debates comes with its own ethical issues and discussion about the permissibility or impermissibility of each topic. Every one of these topics is complex and deserves careful consideration when trying to determine what is right ethically and which principles in ethics need to be considered more than others. When discussing PAS, we are not advocating that anyone who no longer wants to live should have access to the method of palliative care, instead we are saying that those wishing to request this should meet certain criteria. The states that have already legalized PAS have set guidelines on when someone can access these services, and according to Radbruch, In contrast to the legal requirements in European countries, in Oregon, Washington, [Montana,] and Vermont, patients must have a terminal physical illness in order to qualify for PAS (Radbruch). So these criteria require the individuals seeking PAS to have a terminal illness which excludes those who might request this based on their perceived quality of life. Physician Assisted Suicide is a hot topic and will continue to dominate the bioethics stage for the foreseeable future. The next concept that needs to be addressed is the slippery slope argument, Beauchamp explains that in his opinion: Judging from the past track record of our society, we should seriously take into account that the slope of the trail toward the unjustified taking of life will be so slippery and precipitous that we ought to never embark on it (Gabriel). One premise of this argument is that if a system has no clear cut guidelines, there is a lot of room for abuse of the system to occur. A prime example of this is when Valeria s dog, Richie is trapped under the floorboards of her house, this can be viewed as a reflection of her position in life at that time, her cheating with Daniel, and the fact she loses the opportunity to be a model, is represented by the Dog being trapped under the floor. However, even with this small reprimanding of each character it still poses the question of authority in the Film. Iñárittu comments on Immigration heavily in his personal life. • 20. Grendel Vs Beowulf Research Paper Beowulf and Grendel, the main characters of their self titled books, are two very different, yet very similar characters. Beowulf, whose real author is unknown, is said to be one of the oldest pieces of English literature ever and is translated from Old English by Seamus Heaney, tells the tale of a valiant member of the Geat people who travels across the sea to help the Danes and King Hrothgar battle Grendel, a vicious monstrosity who is ravaging the local area. Grendel is written by John Gardner and tells the same tale of Beowulf s courageous attempt, while presenting the story from Grendel s point of view, a new spin on the age old story. Point of view plays a huge role in these stories, with Beowulf being read by a omniscient narrator whose god like abilities seems to allow them to bounce around from the past, present, and future. Grendel, on the other hand, is completely in first person and rarely ventures away from that point of view, only when Grendel seems to have the ability to read people s actions and minds without ... Weller walks in the quarters and says Who is teaching her to read? . Mammy replies back with Sir? acting like she is clueless when she really knows who is teaching her to read (Page 64). • 23. Break Break Break Analysis The poem Break, Break, Break was composed by Lord Tennyson Alfred. Written in rhyming quatrain stanzas with a trimeter rhythm, this piece of literature expresses the thoughts of a man who has recently lost someone he was close to. Accordingly, the themes displayed in this poem are death, sorrow, and passing time. The composer of the poem is unable to speak his mind, for his tongue will not allow him to speak the thoughts that arise in [him] (4). This phrase displays the emotional distress being experience by the author, as well as avoidance of responsibility for what he is unable to say. He does not take claim of being unable to say his thoughts aloud but rather blames the inability on his tongue. Later on in the poem, we learn of the reason for this emotional distress the author is experiencing. The author longs for the touch of a vanished hand/And the sound of a voice that is still (11 12). These two eerie indicators point the reader towards the conclusion that the author has lost someone with whom he was close. The author continues to use the physical world to describe the one he has lost, emphasizing the presence of death within the poem. The combination of his inability to say what thoughts he has and his use of physical world descriptions for this missing person may indicate that he is still in the early stages of grief, attempting to fully comprehend his loss. The author includes implications of jealousy within his poem. This jealousy arises when he first observes a fisherman s boy playing joyfully with his sister and then when he sees a sailor lad singing cheerfully in his boat on the bay. These lines providing evidence of this begin with O well (5,7). The use of this phrase before his observations leads the reader to the conclusion that he is jealous of the happiness of these people. After suffering a great loss, one is inclined to wish they could once again experience the joy they see in others. This is further evident with the presence of the statement of but the tender grace of a day that is dead/Will never come back to me (15 16). The authors thoughts of jealousy and death lead to the main theme of this poem, sorrow. The author recalls the day that he was able to enjoy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Nullification Crisis started in 1828 when the Congress passed a very high tariff on manufactured goods from Europe. Since anger of tariffs continued to build in the South, the Congress passed a new, lower tariff in 1832, hoping that the protest in the South would die down. However, the South Carolina legislature passed the Nullification act, an act refusing to pay the illegal tariffs of 1828 and 1832. Role Of Violence In The Iliad Josef Affourtit Affourtit.2 February 10th, 2017 CLAS1101 The Iliad: Greeks and Their Love for War It has long been a popular scholarly opinion that the Greeks in the Iliad were lovers of war and violence. The Greeks were most definitely primal beasts, and blood shedders, a fact made abundantly clear in the Iliad. However, I think that the Greeks were not lovers of war, furthermore I think this interpretation is shortsighted. The amount of violence in the Iliad seems to be evidence for their love of war, but the ancient world was primal and passionate, and these ancient beasts were not strangers to bloodshed and violence. Thus, I think the amount of violence in the Iliad does not perpetuate the Greeks love for war, but rather shows their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a Greek hero kills a Trojan commander or hero, the Greeks rejoice because there was immediate honor granted to the killer. He has done well for his name and his people, which is why the kill is celebrated. If the Hero had slain a goat, the Greeks would not have rejoiced (unless they were particularly famished that day), because the Greeks do not celebrate bloodshed for the sake of red, they celebrate honor and immortality granted to those who exhibit greatness. This is also why I think Homer and other story telling decedents choose to remember those that are bastards and those that are highborn. A bastard being less honorable than a noble highborn man, and than those born from human woman and a god for a father. I cannot accept that through millennia of retellings of the Iliad, such a seemingly minuscule detail such as bastard would be kept without reason. The description bastard appears many times during the bloodshed of the Iliad. In Book IV, As the javelin homed in on Democoön, Pram s bastard son from his horse farm in Abydos (Homer, Iliad 4), it is again mentioned the honor associated with the kill, a bastard boy, rather than a hero. Then, Meges kills Pedaeus in Book V, Homer makes sure to detail Though he was a bastard... . Mental and Emotional Adjustment in Divorce with Age Numerous factors come into play pertaining to the age of a child that undergoes the experience of parental divorce. As time passes, most research states that both anxiety and depression impact children of divorce rather steadily. However, even after adjusting, these emotional impacts are extremely consistent throughout the progression of life (Størksen et al., 2005). Due to the inability to cognitively process and identify reasons that lead to divorce, kids around the pre kindergarten age range are naïve to the situation. Around this age, children depend on parental support in daily life to carry out tasks. This alteration of family structure will impact smaller children more than older children, as the older child will have more outlets to channel their mental tension (Reiter et al., 2013). The scene where Rick Blaine, the lead male, is at the bar after seeing Ilsa Lund, his former lover, is the most dramatic moment in the film. The audience first sees Rick alone at the bar drinking. Sam walks in the bar and has a powerful conversation with Rick. The moment that these two characters share is dramatic because the audience is getting to see a side of Rick that hasn t been seen yet. The audience is used to seeing Rick as the perfect man. After he sees Ilsa, he breaks down, which is indicated by his heavy drinking, showing that he has a weakness. The cinematography helps show the dynamic change in Rick. The shot distance allows the audience to see Rick s facial expressions. Although Rick is seen as strong and independent, when he is reunited with Ilsa, he is drawn into a darkness that he is struggling with in the scene; it is easy to see the struggle of man vs. himself and the concept of masculinity. In this scene we see Rick in a vulnerable state after having seen Ilsa for the first time in a year. The camera shot is varied from close ups to medium long shots.
