My Journey
The journey of life is not meant to be feared and planned; it s meant to be traveled and enjoyed.
Waking up every morning, I still can t believe it s been almost two years since I moved to America. I
mean it s crazy, one year ago all the street signs are in Chinese and the next thing you know I wake up
in a world of English. I can still remember the day I step off the airplane, it was a day that changed my
life. Some of my friends were amazed by how quickly I adapted to America, but that s not true. I had a
transition year when I was 13. I have to say; I m feeling very different from two years ago when I first
walk into a world where everyone speaks English. What most of my friends don t know is that I didn t
go to Jericho straightway; I was in Syosset for 8th grade. I remember walking into the building for the
first time. My heart was pounding; I was sweating. I reported to the administrator, and I was taken to
the classroom by the social study teacher (kind of a leading teacher of the class). I walked through the
classroom door, and I sort of had a panic attack when everybody looked at me. God, I really wish I
was dead or something at that moment. I have to say how I landed in that school was a mystery to
solve. In the entire school building including staff members, I m probably the only atheist there. Every
Wednesday the whole class spends about 3 periods on Mass. On my first Wednesday there, which is
surprising also my first day there, I felt

Essay on Nonviolent Resistance Helped by Communication...
Non violent activism has played a critical role in several transitions from authoritarianism like, the
withering away of the Soviet Union and the Apartheid in South Africa. For many activists, non violent
action has become an effective way to achieve social or political goals. Peter Ackerman and
Christopher Kruegler, the authors of Strategic Nonviolent Conlfict: The Dynamics of People Power in
the Twentieth Century, mention how the appearance of non violent action as a weapon of choice in
resolving conflict is continuously increasing. However, social activists must pay close attention to the
relationship between new, mainstream and social media outlets and social movements due to the fact
that the success and outcomes of several social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gaining positive media coverage is crucial, as social movements rely on the media for mobilisation of
political support, legitimisation in mainstream discourse and to broaden the scope of conflicts.
Positive media coverage is important because one can argue that today many people are replacing
opinions as facts due to the media s ability to dupe the masses. In the article The News Media s
Influence on Peace Operations written by, Warren Strobel, he describes this phenomena as the CNN
effect. He also discusses the CNN curve which is the ability to influence public opinion by
broadcasting images of starvation, or other tragedies on news networks. The ability for networks to
reach a vast audience with strong and influential messages has been facilitated through an increase in
technology, the internet and other communication devices. Messages are instantaneously displayed on
TV screens, online newspapers and pod casts, allowing for people all over the world to have instant
access to critical events. An example of mainstream media s effect on grassroots activism, is the White
March that took place in Belgium on October 20, 1997. The White March was a massive
demonstration that included about 300,000 citizens. The demonstration surrounded the controversy of
the arrest of murder Marx Dutroux. Stefaan Walgrave and Jan Manssesn studied the media coverage
of this demonstration and concluded that, the media itself contributed to a majority

Plato s Allegory In The Matrix
In the film The Matrix, we follow a character by the name of Thomas Anderson also known as Neo.
Early in the film, Neo starts having what could be viewed as hallucinations or dreams that bleed into
what he deems as his reality. After the first of the incidences, Neo meets a woman named Trinity.
Trinity knows Neo has been searching for a man who goes by the name of Morpheus. She Tells Neo it
is not Morpheus he is looking for but an answer to the one question that haunts him What is the
Matrix? . Through a strange series of events, Neo and Morpheus meet to have a discussion. During
that discussion, Morpheus tells Neo that he knows the question that haunts him and begins to explain
what the matrix is. According to Morpheus, the matrix ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is it what appears in front of us or is it something else beyond what our mind can process directly.
Plato talks about the this in his Allegory of the Cave. In the allegory, Plato uses the metaphor of
prisoners who have never been outside of a cave being shown shadows that look like animals and
other forms of life. If the prisoners are given the same choice that Morpheus presents to Neo, to stay in
the cave or leave it most would choose to stay in the reality they are familiar with. I like Neo would
opt for the unpopular path of leaving the matrix because once I was shown the possibility that what
was presented to me was a fallacy I would no longer be able to accept the world around me as fact.
Plato explains that anyone who makes the choice to leave the cave would then see what creates the
shadows on the cave wall, therefore, starting on a path of true knowledge. Neo leaving the cave or the
matrix by taking the red pill consequently starts him on a quest to find out what was creating his
pseudo reality. When Neo made his decision to leave the matrix he opted for a world of true
knowledge over that of appearances. Neo gains the power of being able to think about the abstraction
that is the matrix. As a result he can begin to try to rationalize what construct the matrix and his new

Literature Review On Nurse To-Patient Ratios
Literature Review The topic of appropriate nurse to patient ratios has been a highly researched subject
for over a decade. Many researchers approach this topic by focusing on the effect that high nurse to
patient ratios have on patient outcomes often called nurse specific indicators . The following includes
a summary of five recent studies conducted on the cause and effect relationship between high nurse to
patient ratios and the increased occurrence of nurse specific indicators (e.g. urinary tract infection,
patient falls, central line associated blood stream infections, etc). California passed Assembly Bill 394,
making them the first state to pass a law that required hospitals to limit the amount of patients
included in a nurse s workload. The California Assembly Bill 394 (AB394) was put into effect on
January 1, 2004. In 2012 a study was conducted to determine if mandated nurse to patient ratios
actually had a positive impact on patient outcomes. This study examined medical/surgical units in
California hospitals. The data used to compare outcomes before and after passing AB394 was from the
year 2000 2002 for the before data. The after data was from the years 2005 2006 (Cook, Gaynor,
Stephens, Taylor, 2012). Shockingly, the data compared before and after the implementation of AB394
showed only a slight decrease in adverse patient outcomes. One patient outcome specifically
mentioned was hospital acquired pressure ulcers. The occurrence rate of hospital acquired

Oryx And Crake
Oryx and Crake is a novel that follows the narration of a character named Jimmy, or Snowman.
Although the novel caters specifically to this character, I do not believe he is the most important
person. Instead, I feel the most noteworthy character, the one who truly sets things in to motion, is
Crake. Throughout the novel, we are given multiple hints as to why Crake is a the most predominant
figure. The first, and most obvious clue, is the title of the book. Before we are introduced to him, we
learn his name, indicating that he is an important figure. Another clue is that without Crake, Jimmy
would have never become fixated on Oryx, who is discovered during one of their internet escapades
(Atwood 91). Referring back to my first point, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without his involvement in the novel, the creation of the Crakers would not have been possible
(Atwood 292). His combination of developing into a formidable geneticist and unique philosophies is
the reason the Paradice project could be executed. After all, the Crakers are the sole purpose of Jimmy
s continued existence in a post apocalyptic environment (Atwood 329). Which is something else
Crake set in to motion when he slit Oryx s throat, causing Jimmy to feel an unbreakable tie to the
Crakers (Atwood 329). Furthermore, without Crake, the near extinction of the human race would not
have occurred in the form of birth control (Atwood 325). In addition to the Crakers, he is also
responsible for the BlyssPluss which was a hot bio form distributed to the public, causing the rupture
of internal organs and bleeding from most orifices (Atwood 325). Without this invention, humanity
would have continued to deplete their resources and perhaps eventually withered, but this snuffed out
any corrections that could have been made by executing generations of people.
In conclusion, I believe Crake is, plot wise, the most crucial character throughout the Oryx and Crake
novel. Without his involvement, we would not have been introduced to Oryx, have half a title,
produced the Crakers, or unleashed a horrific disease amongst the people (Atwood 324). Jimmy
played a significant role by tending to the Crakers after the Chaos; however, without Crake there
would not have been a catastrophic event, creating a new world (Atwood

also lasted three rounds. The top five most profitable teams at the end of game two in each flight
would receive scholarships. The games lasted a good portion of the afternoon. The event continued
with a dinner banquet and concluded with announcement of the championship team and awards
presentation. In the last two years the event took place at the university basketball arena, which was
decorated with company banners. With close to 300 participants and spectators, it was an exciting
event for both the student teams and their mentors. In sum, students were doing their very best to
come out on top rather than treating the competition as just another school activity. The CATME
website was used to collect teamwork and team satisfaction data . Each student was instructed to

Advantages Of Backlash From Social Media Usage
Backlash from Social Media Usage
The technology that is social media can be used for many good purposes, but you should always
remember to not post prejudice/racist comments, not to share confidential information and stay away
from idiotic/rude comments (Newstex. 2015) while you are on the job.
Introduction
Getting backlash from your social media usage is a scare for a lot of people in this age of technology.
Whether you run your company s social media or not, having to make sure you follow the proper
guidelines of not posting prejudice or racist comments, not sharing confidential information and stay
away from any idiotic or rude comments while you are on the job. Not following these rules will lead
to termination and defamation of the company! Especially in this age where prejudice or racism has
no room in our society.
Prejudice / Racism
Posting racist, sexist, or offensive comments could make other people see the company that the person
works for in a different light and cost them their business. A business wants to bring in a target
audience. This could include all nationalities, sexes, religions, or handicapped people. Posting
offensive content that might possibly be targeted toward anyone is not good for you or the company
and should be avoided at all costs. Back in 2013, PR rep Justine Sacco tweeted an insensitive
comment about AIDS just before getting on a plane to South Africa. By the time she landed a few
hours later, her job was history and her reputation was

The majority of modern pornography is not art, and by...
The majority of modern pornography is not art, and by using a selective definition of Leo Tolstoy s
version of art, and John Dewey s theory of art as experience, we can determine that pornography is
nothing more than shallow entertainment that exacerbates social inequalities of society s gender roles.
Despite this, pornography has the potential to become art, and should therefore not be censored. It is
important to define pornography, as well as Tolstoy and Dewey s definitions of art, in order to set the
groundwork for my argument. To begin, in this paper, the term pornography refers to anything that, is
sexually explicit material that is primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. Furthermore,
pornography comes in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Dewey s definition of art is different from Tolstoy s in that Dewey believed in the importance of
experience as art, and using one s imagination and expression to contribute to that experience. When
we encounter true art, we are not concerned with the connection of one incident with what went before
and what comes after. There is no interest that controls attentive rejection or selection of what shall be
organized into the developing experience. Dewey thought that experience has external factors that
changed and also lead through a beginning and end. Imagination must also be used while one engages
art and it is defined as the capacity to work a vague idea and emotion over into terms of some definite
medium. Both artist and audience must consciously activate the imagination when observing art. To
activate one s imagination is to bring forth a past experience from one s mind, and reflect on its
relevancy. Dewey further believes in the importance of the role of expression when creating art. By
definition expression is, the clarification of turbid emotions; our appetites know themselves when they
are reflected in the mirror of art, and as they know themselves are transfigured. Expression is
essentially a hybrid of revised emotion combined with a past experience. When one successfully
creates this hybrid, expression is created and the emotion becomes, independent of the artist s
expressing something through an object.

Close Reading of Middleton and Rowley s The Changeling Essay
Within Middleton and Rowley s The Changeling the selective use of language accentuates various
ideas and notions, demonstrating the capability words have in manipulating perceptions. It is the
strategic placement of double entendres on behalf of DeFlores that greatly affect consequences, as
disguising his lustful intents as honesty aids in the damnation of himself and Beatrice. Although
deceiving in nature only to Beatrice, through the insertion of asides, only the audience remains
knowledgeable of these entendres, causing troublesome irony. Furthermore, it is the manipulation of
language that really accentuates the effects of Beatrice s ignorentia, causing her to descend the social

Violence on Television
Most people in our society generally have the opinion that violence on television increases aggression
in children and adolescents. Does it ? Who is to say whether television has a positively direct effect or
a positive correlation ? However, the majority of the people who have researched this topic have
discovered that violence on television is indeed one of the prime factors contributing to the increase in
violent and aggressive behavior among the youth in society. That is to say there has been a growth of
strong evidence to suggest that television violence does play an important and contributory part in the

In the minds of young children, television is a source of entirely factual information regarding how the
world works. For instance, as a child I could remember imitating violent acts after watching violent
movies such as Superman, Star Wars, Star
Trek, and Rocky. It felt fun to imitate these so called heroes because it seemed like the characters in
the movies were invincible. Moreover, the main characters in the movies were always liked and
respected. There are many other examples that confirm that people imitate violence scenes on
television. For instance, the cartoon Beavis and Butthead on MTV in the United States was widely
criticized for depicting the cartoon characters shaped like cigarettes. The cartoon also gained national
attention when a young five year old fan from the United
States set fire to his house after watching the show. This was due to the fact that in one of the
episodes, Beavis and Butthead were going around setting fires to houses. Furthermore, in a resent
incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the head and
other parts of her body numerous times. As a result, the child died from being left out in the cold
because she was not able to move due to her injuries. Later the officials had discovered that the
barbaric incident was due to the fact that the children had watched the violent cartoon Mighty
Morphin Power

Electronic Voting Is A Bad Idea Essay
Electronic voting machines can be seen as an improvement to many Americans, such as those with
disabilities and citizens with a first language other than English. However there are downsides to the
new approach that outweigh the benefits of the new voting system coming in to place.
In the passage, Electronic Voting Is a Bad Idea , there are numerous reasons stated advocating against
the use of EVMs. In paragraph one it is said, According to at least one study, poll workers are often
poorly trained on how to use EVMs. Sometimes the workers don t even know how to turn the
machines on! In Everyone Should Be Able to Vote it mentions that one of the main draws to using
EVMs is that the disabled and those who need a ballot in a language other than English would find it
easier to use. The inexperience of poll workers would simply cause more confusion to the voters with
special requests. EVMs would also cause problems for citizens who have limited knowledge on how
to use computers. It is cited in paragraph 3 of Electronic voting Is a Bad Idea , In a 2004 national

A trial performed by Nigrovic, et al. was to see if Anakinra could potentially treat JIA. This trial lasted
82 days and included 21 patients (3 days after diagnosis) and 32, (within 30 days of being diagnosed.
These subjects were injected with two different variations of Anakinra. After around 14.5 months,
Nigrovic says that improvement was a fast positive improvement. 25 out of 29 patients fever and rash
healed in about 1 2 days. 8 of 10 patients treated with only Anakinra did not require any additional
therapy after the trial. The specialists in this study associated Anakinra with positive outcomes.
(Nigrovic, P. A., et al., 2011) Another trial was used to see if Anakinra was safe to use in minors. 69%
of the test subjects responded to the medication while 31% did not. After figuring out weight based
exposure to Anakinra provided adequate exposure to the patients they concluded that Anakinra was a
safe drug to administer to children. (Ilowite, N., et al. 2008)

Essay 3: The Myth of the Melting Pot
13 November 2015
The Myth of the Melting Pot
It is popularly believed that America is the biggest and most famous melting pot in the world.
American history began with waves of immigrants bringing their own traditions, and culture to a new
country. America is not the only country that is known as a melting pot, other countries like Russia are
also practicing the melting pot; however, America is the only place that has such a diverse population
and manages to make it work. Social media around the world, especially public relations of the
American government has been working hard for years to make a uniform state that works equally for
everybody, without taking in to consideration who they are or where they came from. However, since
the beginning of that theory, we have seen a lot of prejudice between social, religious, and national
aspects around the world. Let s us consider whether or not the melting pot truly works in both
countries or if it is just a myth?
First of all, let us try to understand what it means to be prejudice. The dictionary defines prejudice as
unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial,
social, or religious group. According to the article Causes of prejudice by Vincent N. Parrillo
prejudicial attitudes combine negatively and positively in society. Additionally, he considers prejudice

Pedagogy
French, 2007 defines pedagogy as the practice or craft of teaching in the interactive process between
teachers and learners and the learning environment which includes family and the community. Under
Siolta, the national quality framework it is defined as the range of interactions to support the holistic
development of children by embracing both care and education within settings.
Denmark has a strong historical background in relation to the training of early care and education
practitioners. The first training programme was implemented in 1885 for those working from the
frobelian approach in education; this formed a basis for the two year study programme implemented in
1904. In 1992, an integrated training system was established to combine theory with practice. Those

Tis But Thy Name That Is My Enemy
Juliet from the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare says about Romeo, Tis but thy name
that is my enemy. She claims that it is Romeo s name, Montague, that is her enemy, and not Romeo
himself, although Romeo s name influenced who he was. Most of the time, names are given to people
by their family members after they are born. However, there are also people who choose their own
names. Most names have a meaning behind them. That meaning doesn t always represent who we are.
In my case, my name has a story behind it. Everyone s names were chosen for a reason, even if that
reason is insignificant. Before I was born, my mom and my dad knew they wanted me to have an
Armenian name. They were considering many different names, some of which are hard for Americans
to pronounce. For that reason, they narrowed the choices down to a couple names that were more
simple. They wanted it to be easy for others to pronounce and spell. Those choices were Tamar, Maral,
and Lilit. The night that they were driving to the hospital before I was born, they came across a deer
on the road. Since Maral translates to deer in Armenian, they decided to name me that. Although I
wasn t named after anyone in particular, the culture behind my name is important to me and my
parents. Before asking my parents about it, I never knew that they wanted my name to be easy for
others to pronounce. Compared to other names, my name was always difficult for my teachers and
classmates to say correctly. In fact,

Insulin In The Pancreas
When a person s body becomes immune to insulin or when the pancreas stops making insulin that s
when it progresses. No one really knows the cause, but genetics and environmental factors, such as
excess weight and inactivity, appear to provide a part in it. Insulin is a hormone that comes from the
pancreas.18 When the pancreas produces insulin it goes into bloodstream. So when insulin moves
around it lets sugar go into the cells. Then insulin lowers the quantity of sugar into the bloodstream.
When the blood sugar level trickles so does the production of insulin in the pancreas.18
Now glucose is the primary source of energy for the cells that form the muscles and other tissues.18

Data Management, Data, Warehousing, And Warehousing Essay
There are many different areas in information systems to study. Data management, data mining, data
warehousing, information management, information security, information assurance, healthcare
informatics and bioinformatics are just a small sample of some of the different areas of study that will
be examined in this paper. Also included in this paper are answers to questions posed by the rubric for
this assignment.
Data management, mining, and warehousing all deal with data in different ways. Data management
establishes the groundwork for an organization to structure, regulate, process, and store data that they
acquire (Rouse, 2016). Data management also encompasses the creation of definitions and standards
for the acquired data which will be adhered to throughout the organization (Definition of: Data
management, 2016).
Data mining is [t]he process of finding significant, previously unknown, and potentially valuable
knowledge hidden in data (Gordon, 2007). Organizations use data mining to sift through massive
quantities of raw data in order to find patterns and relationships that will ultimately be used for
business purposes (Definition of: Data mining, 2016). Organizations mainly use data mining to get a
better idea of their customer s purchasing habits, product preferences, etc. in order to create sales
tactics targeted at a certain customer demographic (Definition of: Data management, 2016).
Data warehouses are huge repositories where data from various sources all

Sadomasochism Essay
Sadomasochism Sadomasochism is a sexually deviant behavior that is practiced by many people
within today s society. It is the combination of two paraphilias, sadism and masochism, which are
usually always linked together. An occasional mild or light form of sadomasochism (or S M for short),
is considerably common among the general population. Many people often enjoy being mildly
dominant or submissive during lovemaking. They believe that it makes the experience more
enjoyable. But when S M becomes the dominating feature of a person s sexuality, that is when he or
she is considered deviant. Unlike other paraphilias, sadomasochism includes a large population of
women as well as men. They are nearly equally balanced in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hypoxyphilia is a fairly common practice where a person chooses to enhance their sexual arousal by
voluntarily depriving himself or herself of oxygen. In order to become deprived of oxygen, people
usually use plastic bags, rope, or their partner s hands to choke their partner once consent is given.
This practice is dangerous and can possibly even result in a tragic death (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner
Rathus, p545 546). Masochism s counterpart, sadism, is the complete opposite for many reasons.
Sadism is a parphilia, which is characterized by the association of sexual satisfaction with the
infliction of pain or humiliation onto others. The term sadism refers to a French author and
philosopher, Marquis de Sade (1740 1814). Marquis de Sade wrote stories of people who became
sexually aroused by inflicting pain or humiliation on others. Some of his best known works are Justine
(published in 1791) and Juliette (published in 1797). A sadist receives sexual gratification by role
playing. They usually play the authority figure who inflicts pain, humiliates, disciplines, and plays
master to another person (Ernulf Innala, p637). Most sadists hurt and humiliate willing partners who
are usually masochists. A small minority of sadists may even attempt to stalk and attack their
unwilling victims. This is a very dangerous and harmful to its participants. In fact, Sigmund Freud
wrote extensively on sadism. In his research, he recognized its existence in the individual and

Sigmund Freud s The Uncanny
In The Uncanny Sigmund Freud describes the uncanny, explaining it as that class of frightening which
leads back to what is old and long familiar (825) In order to adequately describe exactly how
something which is old and long familiar becomes frightening he uses the German word Heimlich ,
which essentially means homelike. In direct contrast with Heimlich, exists the word unheimlich,
which can be understood as something that is the opposite of homelike. Freud describes unheimlich as
something which should have remained secret but has come to light. While there are a great many
things that are able to make us feel this uncanny feeling, according to Freud they are all rooted in the
same place that of our repressed memories. Individual repressed ... Show more content on

The most chilling part of this film existed surely in the 1950s and today. Today it is the timelessness of
it that is uncanny, that eventually the pods got almost everyone. It didn t matter who you were or what
kind of person you are, this deeply repressed fear that we could all become mindless automatons
exists, and seeing it represented is deeply disturbing. The uncanny effect exists in several places in this
film; the uncanny feeling from seeing someone who looks exactly like you emerge from a pod, the
uncanny feeling of knowing something about someone you know is off but you just can t seem to put
your finger on it, and when the whole town is essentially comprised of pod people that seem so close
to the real thing it is nearly impossible to detect. This film has so many layers of uncanny, at points it
is almost difficult to put your finger on exactly what it is that is creating the feeling in the first place.
This film becomes a representation of our culturally repressed fears, the uncanny feeling from not

Alphone Bertillon s System
Alphonse Bertillon was born in Paris on April 24, 1853. He was the son of the distinguished
physician, anthropologist, and physician, Louis Adolphe Bertillon (bookrags.com). Young Alphonse
was seen as hopeless through his fathers eyes. He often suffered from migraine headaches, and
nosebleeds, and was very shy and lacked social skills. However, the young Bertillon was not a
complete loss, he was an intellectual who had a thirst for knowledge and shared his father s interest in
statistics and anthropology (http://jimfisher.edinboro.edu). In the year 1875, Bertillon was conscripted
into the french army. After several years of armed service Bertillon was discharged. With no higher
education or degrees Bertillon struggled with finding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also noticed that the mug shots that were taken by indifferent commercial photographers, were of
very low quality and often the offenders intentionally distorted their faces while being photographed
to disguise their appearance. Bertillon had a general understanding of the anthropological statistics
and anthropometric techniques from the work of his father (bookrags.com). This was in the most basic
sense the study of human statistics and the measurements and proportions of the human body.
Bertillon was soon able to devise a system of identification of criminals which relied on 11 bodily
measurements as well as the color of the eyes, hair, and skin. He also added standardized photographs
of the criminals to his anthropometric data. (http://www.nleomf.org/) Bertillon believed that if several
body measurements were taken and recorded the likelihood that any two people would have the same
dimensions and measurements would be extremely rare or even nonexistent. Now that Bertillon had
conceived a way to record criminal records effectively, he had to devise a way to store all his gathered
data in a way that an individual s record could be located, within minutes, from thousands of other
body measurement records. Alphonse Bertillon soon developed a unique filing system for the criminal
records. He would first subdivide the eleven body measurements into small, medium and large.

How Did Prophet Muhammad Contribute To The Rise Of Islam
The Islamic World

forces that are active now in many countries. By dictionary definition, Populist is a member of a
political party seeking to represent interests of ordinary people. Nationalist is a person who advocates
political independence for a country. According to the author, these type of people are becoming more
active in more countries than they were years ago. Years ago, countries never focused on how one

Essay on Living Life in American Samoa
Living Life in American Samoa
There are many different people living in this world with different culture diversity, and ways of
making a living. American Samoans are one of these countries with different cultures and different
ways of living. Living life in American Samoa is more unique from other countries. First of all, living
life in American Samoa is easier then any other countries as far as I know. In American Samoa we get
food free because the Samoans mainly live off the land. There is no house or rent payment. The people
of Samoa grow their own plantation, go fishing and help out others. Everyone works together and

So we have to ask ourselves why life in American Samoa is so easy? Because their cultures. Culture in
Samoa is very different from other countries. We have to live with much pride in our own ancestors
who brought out and formed what we collect now as our culture. So life in American Samoa is formed
out of our culture. Another way that I thought life in American Samoa is so easy, is because we have
to respect each other especially old people and other people that live in your own society. Secondly,
we have to respect our own people with great honor and sincere. This means whatever old people tell
us to do; we have to do it any way. Just the same thing likes our parents. Thirdly, we have to love
everyone in our community. Share what you have with family or your friends. Some families in
American Samoa show their values with other countries. This means show what they need and what
they benefit for their life in the long run. So every life need is always based on culture. We build our
own houses, because there are not that many bills to pay. So let us compare the living life in American
Samoa and living life here in Hawaii. These two ways of living life was very, very different. Here in
Hawaii we have to work in order to live and survive. But in American Samoa we don t. In Hawaii if
we don t have jobs or work, we can t plan to pay a lot of bills including house or apartment rent. So

So what s the magic? There is no magic. The women in the study ate less than they normally did.
According to the study, the women in the Special K group were eating about 2200 kcals per day.
When they started substituting the cereal meals they dropped daily intake by about 640 kcals per day.
Furthermore, a lot of those calories were from fat (~39 grams or 351 kcals).
Good or What?
Personally I think incorporating some cereals into your diet can be good but there are some caveats
here: Satiety From experience, I ve noticed that wolfing down a bowl of cereal doesn t always curb the
hunger pangs. However having a bit more protein in the mix does keep the pangs at bay. Nutrition The
simple truth is Special K is better than what most people eat, but it still contains such gems as High
Fructose Corn Syrup. Serving for serving, it has less potassium and fiber than oats, and more sugar.

This rhetorical analysis is about the Nabisco company airing a funny commercial during the Super

The commercial starts off in a two story library. Two students are seemingly studying at a table of
books. One of them holds up an Oreo and whispers to his tablemate, Ive always preferred the cream
part of an Oreo. In a nonchalant whisper, the tablemate replies, That s insane, the cream is the best
part! From that moment a whisper argument starts. The two tablemates are whispering in reply to each
other, Cream! , Cookie! , Cream! As the whisper exchange escalates, one of them finally stands up and
flips the table over. Their aggression is noticed by others and the need to partake in a rumble soon
erupts. Soon, the whole library starts physically contending with each other defending their opinion as
to which part of the Oreo is best.
A chair is broken across another person s back, racks of books are being pushed over to create a
domino effect onto someone s body, librarians are dodging lamps being hurled across the library, and
people are wrestling each other off the second floor balcony. Even in the midst of all the mayhem,
everyone is still using their whisper voice. As a fire starts to break out from all the turmoil, a couple

working at Taco Bell may spend most of his or her time assisting customers and cashiering. However,
he or she is still considered the boss even if he or she is not actually actively engaged with his or her

According to Alexander Hamilton Institute, the Fair Labor Standard Act say s an employee is
considered exempt if he or she meets the criteria s pertaining to the duties test. The duties test criteria
include managing a customarily recognized department or subdivision of the enterprise, customarily
and regularly direct the work of at least two or more other full time employees or their equivalent, and
the authority to hire or fire other employees, or the employee s suggestions and recommendations as to

Examine and Assess How Political Order Is Made and Repaired
Examine and assess how political order is made and repaired.
In this TMA I will examine and assess how political order is made mainly through the state. In order
to create, maintain and repair political order, the state needs authority from its citizens to do so and
this authority needs to be legitimate. Legitimacy refers to a belief in the states rightness, its right to
rule or the idea that its authority is proper. I will then explain how today, legitimacy is closely linked
to democracy and it is through free and fair elections that the state receives legitimacy. The degree to
which individuals legitimise the state is varied and individuals or groups of people can also engage
critically with the state.
Creating political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way citizens can legitimise their relationship with the state is through citizenship ceremonies
however most citizens do not attend such ceremonies.
Many of the everyday practises and discourses of the state, its discourses, its symbols and the ways in
which state actors and institutions represent themselves to the people, are involved in the process of
legitimation; that is to say, the states claim of legitimacy from its citizens. So through peoples
everyday practises and activities like paying taxes or taking the car for an MOT individuals are
involved in the making and remaking of the state. This is another way through which people legitimise
the state.
However, one of the main ways individuals express their acceptance or rejection of the state is through
the ballot box. Elections provide a means for people to question and reflect on this or that government
policy, the adequacy of this or that government agency, or the talents and policies of this or that party,
candidate or official. Today we would see free and fair democratic elections as the main, if not the
only, reasonable indicator of whether people have given express consent to those who hold state
derived power over them.
Its possible to see that state legitimacy is closely linked to democracy. This is because through
democracy the state claims legitimacy to rule over people in a certain territory. Democracy is a form
of political order few dare to oppose (Sen) even if they

amount of people and every day a handful of them die. A average of twenty one people die everyday,
according to the American Transplant Foundation. Many scientist and medically certified personals
have been trying to come up with alternative genetic modified organs to give to needed patients,

what the donor needs, instead of having a human donor. The procedure has been experimented on for
many years since the first transplantation between humans was successful. Nevertheless,
xenotransplantation should not be considered because of the physiological beliefs, disease

physiological beliefs. Since birth, we were taught our wrongs and rights and we were taught about
socially acceptable activities. Animals were always a symbol of happiness and hope, and many of us
treat them as human beings. Hurting animals was always one of the wrong things to do. Not only do

the two, disregarding the difference in sizes of the separate parts, is that series hybrid electric vehicles

in a parallel HEV, the engine is directly connected to the wheels, however this is not the case in a

In a parallel HEV, the motor and the combustion engine work in accordance to power the vehicle. The
gasoline based engine and motor are both connected to the transmission. As fuel travels to the engine
or the battery is turned on, it propels the car.
In a series HEV, the motor is charged by the battery or generator (powered by gasoline based engine).
Thus, the gasoline engine does not directly propel the car, unlike in the parallel HEV. The transmission
is responsible for determining how much energy is required and whether to retrieve it from the battery
or the generator. Pictured above, is a parallel HEV system, as made obvious by the position of the

Salsa Story
Salsa
Clementina is a small city in Mexico with faded, white billboards and smoke plumes flurrying in the
air like a flock of large black birds. The town is old and dusted, it is like the industrial factories have
washed all the color away. There is many businesses in Clementina, but they get minimal customers.
One of the Businesses is a small, avocado green shabby building with an old, splintered wooden sign
that says:
Tyrone s One and Only
Watermelon and Mustard Salsa
Tyrone Sabian is a middle aged man with short, scruffy, brown hair. He thinks his salsa is really good,
but one time there was this man who did not read the sign and stumbled in with his cane clattering on
the linoleum floor and asked: What are you selling in the shop?
Tyrone responded; Watermelon Mustard Salsa. and the look on the man s face as he heard the Salsa

At night Zander creeps into the shop, and quietly places all the salsa in his car. He then sneaks out and
returns to his shop, He then puts all the jars in a dumpster.
The next day when Tyrone comes downstairs to his shop, he is shocked by the fact that all of his salsa
is gone! He walk over to Zander s shop and asks him if he know where his salsa is, and Zander says
that he has no clue and didn t even know his salsa was gone so Tyrone figured that if it was not Zander
than he should probably just give up because that would mean that it is some robber that is long gone
by now.
Zander goes back to his evil scheming. He plans to blow up Tyrone s shop. So a few nights later he
returns (Tyrone doesn t use locks obviously) to Tyrone s shop and starts to place the dynamite he
ordered on eBay, but as he is doing so, Tyrone comes down the stairs to go the bathroom and catches
Zander, Zander tries to run away but trip over his shoelace and falls sprawling onto the linoleum

Noble What Noble Analysis
The author helps me understand what is like to live through the explosion by giving a lot of sensory
detail and including effects the explosion had on different things. Like including this ¨Back in
Richmond, Noble saw orange and blue flames flicking skyward from the Mont Blanc. He left his
house and walked towards the harbor to get a better view. Like Noble, many in Dartmouth and Halifax
rushed outside to see the burning ship.¨ This explains why many of the houses were abandoned so the
houses were easily engulfed in flames. The author helped me understand by saying the explosions
effect on people. Like how the author singled out one person, which helps the reader sympathies the
people better. It was told through what happened to Noble, what Noble saw, and how Noble lost a
family member.¨The shock wave lifted Noble into the air. He landed, unconscious, near Richmond
School. For about 10 minutes, black rain fell a sludge of benzol residue, molten pieces of the Mont
Blanc, and other debris. When Noble came to, he saw that most of the buildings were gone. His jacket
had been blown off. His skin was blacken by the rain. Shards of glass stuck of glass stuck in his hair. I

port, schools, and houses? Gone. People felt it was 250 miles away the explosion was that huge. Noble

The Wage Discrimination Between A Man And A Woman
Research paper
Discrimination can be dealt through many different aspects I will talk about the wage discrimination
between a man and a women. I am for women getting equal pay as men because women can have the
same qualifications if not better than their male counterparts and are still underpaid in most workplace
settings. Through the years women have been underpaid by their male counterparts in society. Women
should get equal pay as men because women may be just as qualified or overqualified as them in the
workplace society. This paper will explain what wage discrimination is, how it affects women today,
and how to improvise and possibly eliminate the situation.
Since women got the right to vote in 1921 they have been underestimated by ... Show more content on

Another thing to point out is that more women are graduating with college degrees than men in a
recent study it showed how fifty seven percent of people in college were women as opposed to male.
Recently President Obama is trying to get the senate to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to make it
easier for women to defend themselves against gender discrimination. Also the Equal Rights
Amendment is also trying to work itself into play to help our generations women against such
discrimination. Women should get equal pay as men because women may be just as qualified as men
and get paid less as male. From last years Census Bureau the wage gap between a teenage male and a
teenage female was twenty two percent stimulating that a female earns twenty two cents less than the
male in a full time job setting. When you factor in other stipulations the gap may be lower but it still
exists this is the problem at hand. In technology areas the pay gap between men and women 2,500 and
if that woman has a child then the gap goes up to 11,000. Women deserve higher pay in society do
same amount of work as men. Depending on a woman s marital status, education, how many hours
worked, age, and area of location the wage gap can be between seven and twelve percent.Yes, women
have progressed to reduce this percentage but they need to work much harder to prove themselves in

American Culture Between The 1920 S
Ever since Thomas Edison invented the Kinetiscope in 1894, films have been reaching its way to the
heart of American culture. Since the roaring twenties, where the United States began to see the first
movie theaters to the 1960 s, where films are officially a source of leisure and escape from reality.
Films influenced American culture between the 1920 s through 1960 s by becoming an increasingly
popular form of leisure for years to come while causing scandals, riots, and movements about films or
about the idea of films in general by displaying issues in society such as racism, forming a need for
censorship laws. Films have also provided a fantasy world for their audiences by showing a film about
someone in their perfect life using ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a talkie is the film, Bright Eyes. In 1934, Shirley Temple starred in the film as a young
girl who lost her father to a plane crash. The film is a comedy, yet audiences were able to relate to the
young girl as she finds her way through custody battles and more (Document 3). This was also the
beginning of movie theaters. Movie theaters began to take the streets between 1900 1920, where
people would pay between five to seven cents to watch around an hour and a half film (Document 1).
There were a variety of ways to watch films, such as drive in movie theaters. In drive in movie
theaters, the viewer would drive into a lot with a big screen and watch the film from their car.
However, these were very popular in the 1950 s as apposed to the roaring twenties (Document 6). By
1920, such men had been replaced by teams of specialists. Another significant change was the
relocation of the industry from the east coast of the United States to Hollywood, a suburb of Los
Angeles in southern California. A third important trend was the emergence of several film studios that
came to dominate production and distribution during the interwar era. By 1930, the structures and
formulae of modern commercial motion pictures had been

Development Of Soybean Cultivars With Multiple Nematodes...
In the mid 1950s, the first SCN resistance soybean sources, PI 90763 and PI 84751 and cultivars Ilsoy
and Peking, were identified (Ross and Brim 1957). During the last 20 years, more than 120 soybean
germplasm with SCN resistance have been reported (Concibido et al. 2004; Vuong et al. 2013).
However, most of them present resistance to only one or few SCN races and only eight soybean
germplasm including Peking, PI 88788, and PI 437654 have widely been used for breeding programs
in the US (Vuong et al. 2013). Understanding of resistance to the nematodes have remained limited
because most of the reported resistance QTL have not been cloned. Also, continuous cultivation of
soybean cultivars with the same resistance sources may accelerate selection pressure for SCN as well
as other nematode species. Therefore, development of soybean cultivars with multiple nematodes
resistance would be essential to prevent losses by the nematodes that can occur in the same field. The
lack of diversity for SCN, RKN, and RN resistance source in current soybean cultivars still
emphasizes the necessity of identifying new resistance genes/QTL. Therefore, continuous germplasm
screening to find new germplasm and genes/QTL would be required for successful soybean breeding
programs. The identification of new genetic sources with broad spectrum resistance to multiple SCN
HG types, RKN and RN would be beneficial for the development of germplasm and varieties to
reduce losses from these nematode species (Lee

Banning The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by...
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain might seem like a good book to have
high school students read since it s about a boy named Huckleberry Finn and his adventures through
his life by dealing with the struggles that he has or when he finds a runaway slave, named Jim, who is
on an island trying to stay hidden so he will not be sold as a slave. Throughout the novel the reader
will see that Huck has an adventurous personality, comes to find out who is father is and tries to help
Jim, the runaway slave, to live and hopefully see his family again. Also, there are people out there that
might think Huck Finn may not be a good book to read and think that it should be banned from
schools and libraries. The reason why people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, it was a liberal word that was used to describe African Americans and Mark Twain was just
using this word as to portray how the Southerners talked and wanted to maintain the reality of the
book. Readers who read Huck Finn may find it hard to read due to the fact that Mark Twain uses the
language of his time period as the language in the book and that involved using profanity and not
showing lots of respect towards either the white Southerners or the black Southerners, that is why
most people reading this will not be able to handle either the profanity or the reality of how people we
treated in the South during the early 1800 s. A second thing that most people who read or have read
this would probably think that this is a controversial book, but in fact it s actually a classic, with real
life events or situations. What some people do not realize is that Huck Finn uses profanity as so does
the real world, but so does music and movies and if their trying to get books banned because it uses
profanity then they should try to get music and movies banned too. Huck Finn is just a young boy
living to survive and helping Jim along the way. He s just living a most people back in the day and
that is real life, there s nothing controversial about that. Also, some people think while reading this
book that Jim was a bad person and was influencing Huck while they were together when in reality
Jim was a positive role

Students at Southeast Polk High School have to be to school by 7:50 everyday. This is hard on the
students who work late at work or are in other activities and do not get to sleep until a later time.
Plenty of students are late all the time to school because they oversleep. I work have worked until
10:00 pm at nights for most of High School and because school starts so early I have been late because
I overslept at least 20 times in my high school career. I have quite a few friends that I know do not get
off of work until 10:00 pm or 12:00 am. If they work until 12:00 am and get home around 12:30 they
would probably get to sleep around 1:00 am but have to wake up at 7:00 am which is only 6 hours of

  • 2. My Journey The journey of life is not meant to be feared and planned; it s meant to be traveled and enjoyed. Waking up every morning, I still can t believe it s been almost two years since I moved to America. I mean it s crazy, one year ago all the street signs are in Chinese and the next thing you know I wake up in a world of English. I can still remember the day I step off the airplane, it was a day that changed my life. Some of my friends were amazed by how quickly I adapted to America, but that s not true. I had a transition year when I was 13. I have to say; I m feeling very different from two years ago when I first walk into a world where everyone speaks English. What most of my friends don t know is that I didn t go to Jericho straightway; I was in Syosset for 8th grade. I remember walking into the building for the first time. My heart was pounding; I was sweating. I reported to the administrator, and I was taken to the classroom by the social study teacher (kind of a leading teacher of the class). I walked through the classroom door, and I sort of had a panic attack when everybody looked at me. God, I really wish I was dead or something at that moment. I have to say how I landed in that school was a mystery to solve. In the entire school building including staff members, I m probably the only atheist there. Every Wednesday the whole class spends about 3 periods on Mass. On my first Wednesday there, which is surprising also my first day there, I felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Nonviolent Resistance Helped by Communication... Non violent activism has played a critical role in several transitions from authoritarianism like, the withering away of the Soviet Union and the Apartheid in South Africa. For many activists, non violent action has become an effective way to achieve social or political goals. Peter Ackerman and Christopher Kruegler, the authors of Strategic Nonviolent Conlfict: The Dynamics of People Power in the Twentieth Century, mention how the appearance of non violent action as a weapon of choice in resolving conflict is continuously increasing. However, social activists must pay close attention to the relationship between new, mainstream and social media outlets and social movements due to the fact that the success and outcomes of several social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gaining positive media coverage is crucial, as social movements rely on the media for mobilisation of political support, legitimisation in mainstream discourse and to broaden the scope of conflicts. Positive media coverage is important because one can argue that today many people are replacing opinions as facts due to the media s ability to dupe the masses. In the article The News Media s Influence on Peace Operations written by, Warren Strobel, he describes this phenomena as the CNN effect. He also discusses the CNN curve which is the ability to influence public opinion by broadcasting images of starvation, or other tragedies on news networks. The ability for networks to reach a vast audience with strong and influential messages has been facilitated through an increase in technology, the internet and other communication devices. Messages are instantaneously displayed on TV screens, online newspapers and pod casts, allowing for people all over the world to have instant access to critical events. An example of mainstream media s effect on grassroots activism, is the White March that took place in Belgium on October 20, 1997. The White March was a massive demonstration that included about 300,000 citizens. The demonstration surrounded the controversy of the arrest of murder Marx Dutroux. Stefaan Walgrave and Jan Manssesn studied the media coverage of this demonstration and concluded that, the media itself contributed to a majority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Plato s Allegory In The Matrix In the film The Matrix, we follow a character by the name of Thomas Anderson also known as Neo. Early in the film, Neo starts having what could be viewed as hallucinations or dreams that bleed into what he deems as his reality. After the first of the incidences, Neo meets a woman named Trinity. Trinity knows Neo has been searching for a man who goes by the name of Morpheus. She Tells Neo it is not Morpheus he is looking for but an answer to the one question that haunts him What is the Matrix? . Through a strange series of events, Neo and Morpheus meet to have a discussion. During that discussion, Morpheus tells Neo that he knows the question that haunts him and begins to explain what the matrix is. According to Morpheus, the matrix ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it what appears in front of us or is it something else beyond what our mind can process directly. Plato talks about the this in his Allegory of the Cave. In the allegory, Plato uses the metaphor of prisoners who have never been outside of a cave being shown shadows that look like animals and other forms of life. If the prisoners are given the same choice that Morpheus presents to Neo, to stay in the cave or leave it most would choose to stay in the reality they are familiar with. I like Neo would opt for the unpopular path of leaving the matrix because once I was shown the possibility that what was presented to me was a fallacy I would no longer be able to accept the world around me as fact. Plato explains that anyone who makes the choice to leave the cave would then see what creates the shadows on the cave wall, therefore, starting on a path of true knowledge. Neo leaving the cave or the matrix by taking the red pill consequently starts him on a quest to find out what was creating his pseudo reality. When Neo made his decision to leave the matrix he opted for a world of true knowledge over that of appearances. Neo gains the power of being able to think about the abstraction that is the matrix. As a result he can begin to try to rationalize what construct the matrix and his new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Literature Review On Nurse To-Patient Ratios Literature Review The topic of appropriate nurse to patient ratios has been a highly researched subject for over a decade. Many researchers approach this topic by focusing on the effect that high nurse to patient ratios have on patient outcomes often called nurse specific indicators . The following includes a summary of five recent studies conducted on the cause and effect relationship between high nurse to patient ratios and the increased occurrence of nurse specific indicators (e.g. urinary tract infection, patient falls, central line associated blood stream infections, etc). California passed Assembly Bill 394, making them the first state to pass a law that required hospitals to limit the amount of patients included in a nurse s workload. The California Assembly Bill 394 (AB394) was put into effect on January 1, 2004. In 2012 a study was conducted to determine if mandated nurse to patient ratios actually had a positive impact on patient outcomes. This study examined medical/surgical units in California hospitals. The data used to compare outcomes before and after passing AB394 was from the year 2000 2002 for the before data. The after data was from the years 2005 2006 (Cook, Gaynor, Stephens, Taylor, 2012). Shockingly, the data compared before and after the implementation of AB394 showed only a slight decrease in adverse patient outcomes. One patient outcome specifically mentioned was hospital acquired pressure ulcers. The occurrence rate of hospital acquired ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Oryx And Crake Oryx and Crake is a novel that follows the narration of a character named Jimmy, or Snowman. Although the novel caters specifically to this character, I do not believe he is the most important person. Instead, I feel the most noteworthy character, the one who truly sets things in to motion, is Crake. Throughout the novel, we are given multiple hints as to why Crake is a the most predominant figure. The first, and most obvious clue, is the title of the book. Before we are introduced to him, we learn his name, indicating that he is an important figure. Another clue is that without Crake, Jimmy would have never become fixated on Oryx, who is discovered during one of their internet escapades (Atwood 91). Referring back to my first point, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without his involvement in the novel, the creation of the Crakers would not have been possible (Atwood 292). His combination of developing into a formidable geneticist and unique philosophies is the reason the Paradice project could be executed. After all, the Crakers are the sole purpose of Jimmy s continued existence in a post apocalyptic environment (Atwood 329). Which is something else Crake set in to motion when he slit Oryx s throat, causing Jimmy to feel an unbreakable tie to the Crakers (Atwood 329). Furthermore, without Crake, the near extinction of the human race would not have occurred in the form of birth control (Atwood 325). In addition to the Crakers, he is also responsible for the BlyssPluss which was a hot bio form distributed to the public, causing the rupture of internal organs and bleeding from most orifices (Atwood 325). Without this invention, humanity would have continued to deplete their resources and perhaps eventually withered, but this snuffed out any corrections that could have been made by executing generations of people. In conclusion, I believe Crake is, plot wise, the most crucial character throughout the Oryx and Crake novel. Without his involvement, we would not have been introduced to Oryx, have half a title, produced the Crakers, or unleashed a horrific disease amongst the people (Atwood 324). Jimmy played a significant role by tending to the Crakers after the Chaos; however, without Crake there would not have been a catastrophic event, creating a new world (Atwood ... Teams in each flight competed against each other in game two, which also lasted three rounds. The top five most profitable teams at the end of game two in each flight would receive scholarships. The games lasted a good portion of the afternoon. The event continued with a dinner banquet and concluded with announcement of the championship team and awards presentation. In the last two years the event took place at the university basketball arena, which was decorated with company banners. With close to 300 participants and spectators, it was an exciting event for both the student teams and their mentors. In sum, students were doing their very best to come out on top rather than treating the competition as just another school activity. • 8. Advantages Of Backlash From Social Media Usage Backlash from Social Media Usage The technology that is social media can be used for many good purposes, but you should always remember to not post prejudice/racist comments, not to share confidential information and stay away from idiotic/rude comments (Newstex. 2015) while you are on the job. Introduction Getting backlash from your social media usage is a scare for a lot of people in this age of technology. Whether you run your company s social media or not, having to make sure you follow the proper guidelines of not posting prejudice or racist comments, not sharing confidential information and stay away from any idiotic or rude comments while you are on the job. Not following these rules will lead to termination and defamation of the company! Especially in this age where prejudice or racism has no room in our society. Prejudice / Racism Posting racist, sexist, or offensive comments could make other people see the company that the person works for in a different light and cost them their business. A business wants to bring in a target audience. This could include all nationalities, sexes, religions, or handicapped people. Posting offensive content that might possibly be targeted toward anyone is not good for you or the company and should be avoided at all costs. The majority of modern pornography is not art, and by using a selective definition of Leo Tolstoy s version of art, and John Dewey s theory of art as experience, we can determine that pornography is nothing more than shallow entertainment that exacerbates social inequalities of society s gender roles. Despite this, pornography has the potential to become art, and should therefore not be censored. It is important to define pornography, as well as Tolstoy and Dewey s definitions of art, in order to set the groundwork for my argument. To begin, in this paper, the term pornography refers to anything that, is sexually explicit material that is primarily designed to produce sexual arousal in viewers. Furthermore, pornography comes in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Dewey s definition of art is different from Tolstoy s in that Dewey believed in the importance of experience as art, and using one s imagination and expression to contribute to that experience. When we encounter true art, we are not concerned with the connection of one incident with what went before and what comes after. There is no interest that controls attentive rejection or selection of what shall be organized into the developing experience. Dewey thought that experience has external factors that changed and also lead through a beginning and end. Imagination must also be used while one engages art and it is defined as the capacity to work a vague idea and emotion over into terms of some definite medium. Both artist and audience must consciously activate the imagination when observing art. To activate one s imagination is to bring forth a past experience from one s mind, and reflect on its relevancy. Dewey further believes in the importance of the role of expression when creating art. By definition expression is, the clarification of turbid emotions; our appetites know themselves when they are reflected in the mirror of art, and as they know themselves are transfigured. Expression is essentially a hybrid of revised emotion combined with a past experience. When one successfully creates this hybrid, expression is created and the emotion becomes, independent of the artist s expressing something through an object. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Close Reading of Middleton and Rowley s The Changeling Essay Within Middleton and Rowley s The Changeling the selective use of language accentuates various ideas and notions, demonstrating the capability words have in manipulating perceptions. It is the strategic placement of double entendres on behalf of DeFlores that greatly affect consequences, as disguising his lustful intents as honesty aids in the damnation of himself and Beatrice. Although deceiving in nature only to Beatrice, through the insertion of asides, only the audience remains knowledgeable of these entendres, causing troublesome irony. Violence on Television Most people in our society generally have the opinion that violence on television increases aggression in children and adolescents. Does it ? Who is to say whether television has a positively direct effect or a positive correlation ? However, the majority of the people who have researched this topic have discovered that violence on television is indeed one of the prime factors contributing to the increase in violent and aggressive behavior among the youth in society. That is to say there has been a growth of strong evidence to suggest that television violence does play an important and contributory part in the learning of aggression. In other words, violence in the media helps promote and encourage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the minds of young children, television is a source of entirely factual information regarding how the world works. For instance, as a child I could remember imitating violent acts after watching violent movies such as Superman, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Rocky. It felt fun to imitate these so called heroes because it seemed like the characters in the movies were invincible. Moreover, the main characters in the movies were always liked and respected. There are many other examples that confirm that people imitate violence scenes on television. For instance, the cartoon Beavis and Butthead on MTV in the United States was widely criticized for depicting the cartoon characters shaped like cigarettes. The cartoon also gained national attention when a young five year old fan from the United States set fire to his house after watching the show. This was due to the fact that in one of the episodes, Beavis and Butthead were going around setting fires to houses. Furthermore, in a resent incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the head and other parts of her body numerous times. American history began with waves of immigrants bringing their own traditions, and culture to a new country. America is not the only country that is known as a melting pot, other countries like Russia are also practicing the melting pot; however, America is the only place that has such a diverse population and manages to make it work. Most of the time, names are given to people by their family members after they are born. However, there are also people who choose their own names. Most names have a meaning behind them. That meaning doesn t always represent who we are. In my case, my name has a story behind it. Everyone s names were chosen for a reason, even if that reason is insignificant. Before I was born, my mom and my dad knew they wanted me to have an Armenian name. They were considering many different names, some of which are hard for Americans to pronounce. For that reason, they narrowed the choices down to a couple names that were more simple. They wanted it to be easy for others to pronounce and spell. Those choices were Tamar, Maral, and Lilit. The night that they were driving to the hospital before I was born, they came across a deer on the road. Since Maral translates to deer in Armenian, they decided to name me that. Hypoxyphilia is a fairly common practice where a person chooses to enhance their sexual arousal by voluntarily depriving himself or herself of oxygen. In order to become deprived of oxygen, people usually use plastic bags, rope, or their partner s hands to choke their partner once consent is given. This practice is dangerous and can possibly even result in a tragic death (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner Rathus, p545 546). Masochism s counterpart, sadism, is the complete opposite for many reasons. Sadism is a parphilia, which is characterized by the association of sexual satisfaction with the infliction of pain or humiliation onto others. The term sadism refers to a French author and philosopher, Marquis de Sade (1740 1814). Marquis de Sade wrote stories of people who became sexually aroused by inflicting pain or humiliation on others. Some of his best known works are Justine (published in 1791) and Juliette (published in 1797). A sadist receives sexual gratification by role playing. They usually play the authority figure who inflicts pain, humiliates, disciplines, and plays master to another person (Ernulf Innala, p637). Most sadists hurt and humiliate willing partners who are usually masochists. A small minority of sadists may even attempt to stalk and attack their unwilling victims. • 32. Rhetorical Analysis Of Cookie Or Cream Rhetorical analysis: Cookie or Cream Akeilao Canada Devry University Rhetorical analysis: Cookie or Cream This rhetorical analysis is about the Nabisco company airing a funny commercial during the Super Bowl called Whisper Fight. Nabisco shows that all 3 appeals do not have to be used in order to create an effective advertisement. The commercial starts off in a two story library. Two students are seemingly studying at a table of books. One of them holds up an Oreo and whispers to his tablemate, Ive always preferred the cream part of an Oreo. In a nonchalant whisper, the tablemate replies, That s insane, the cream is the best part! From that moment a whisper argument starts. The two tablemates are whispering in reply to each other, Cream! , Cookie! , Cream! As the whisper exchange escalates, one of them finally stands up and flips the table over. Their aggression is noticed by others and the need to partake in a rumble soon erupts. Soon, the whole library starts physically contending with each other defending their opinion as to which part of the Oreo is best. A chair is broken across another person s back, racks of books are being pushed over to create a domino effect onto someone s body, librarians are dodging lamps being hurled across the library, and people are wrestling each other off the second floor balcony. Even in the midst of all the mayhem, everyone is still using their whisper voice. As a fire starts to break out from all the turmoil, a couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Jones Department Store I think Amy classifies the shift leaders at Jones Department Store as exempt, because of the Fair Labor Standard Act. According to the FLSA, an employee is exempt if the employee is in charge of a department or subdivision of the enterprise (such as a shift) (n.d., para. 15). For instance, a shift leader working at Taco Bell may spend most of his or her time assisting customers and cashiering. However, he or she is still considered the boss even if he or she is not actually actively engaged with his or her managerial duties (FLSA, n.d.). Therefore, even though Jane may work most of her time assisting customers and cashiering she s still the one who makes the managerial decisions during her shift. In this TMA I will examine and assess how political order is made mainly through the state. In order to create, maintain and repair political order, the state needs authority from its citizens to do so and this authority needs to be legitimate. Legitimacy refers to a belief in the states rightness, its right to rule or the idea that its authority is proper. I will then explain how today, legitimacy is closely linked to democracy and it is through free and fair elections that the state receives legitimacy. The degree to which individuals legitimise the state is varied and individuals or groups of people can also engage critically with the state. Creating political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way citizens can legitimise their relationship with the state is through citizenship ceremonies however most citizens do not attend such ceremonies. Many of the everyday practises and discourses of the state, its discourses, its symbols and the ways in which state actors and institutions represent themselves to the people, are involved in the process of legitimation; that is to say, the states claim of legitimacy from its citizens. So through peoples everyday practises and activities like paying taxes or taking the car for an MOT individuals are involved in the making and remaking of the state. This is another way through which people legitimise the state. However, one of the main ways individuals express their acceptance or rejection of the state is through the ballot box. Elections provide a means for people to question and reflect on this or that government policy, the adequacy of this or that government agency, or the talents and policies of this or that party, candidate or official. Today we would see free and fair democratic elections as the main, if not the only, reasonable indicator of whether people have given express consent to those who hold state derived power over them. Its possible to see that state legitimacy is closely linked to democracy. This is because through democracy the state claims legitimacy to rule over people in a certain territory. Both series and parallel hybrid electric vehicles primarily contain the same parts, however, they are configured differently. Both types of hybrid electric vehicle contain a gasoline based engine, a battery which is rechargeable, an inverter, transmission and an electric motor. The main difference between the two, disregarding the difference in sizes of the separate parts, is that series hybrid electric vehicles have a generator whereas in a parallel hybrid electric vehicle the motor acts as a generator. Moreover, in a parallel HEV, the engine is directly connected to the wheels, however this is not the case in a series HEV. In a parallel HEV, the motor and the combustion engine work in accordance to power the vehicle. The gasoline based engine and motor are both connected to the transmission. As fuel travels to the engine or the battery is turned on, it propels the car. In a series HEV, the motor is charged by the battery or generator (powered by gasoline based engine). Thus, the gasoline engine does not directly propel the car, unlike in the parallel HEV. The transmission is responsible for determining how much energy is required and whether to retrieve it from the battery or the generator. In the mid 1950s, the first SCN resistance soybean sources, PI 90763 and PI 84751 and cultivars Ilsoy and Peking, were identified (Ross and Brim 1957). During the last 20 years, more than 120 soybean germplasm with SCN resistance have been reported (Concibido et al. 2004; Vuong et al. 2013). However, most of them present resistance to only one or few SCN races and only eight soybean germplasm including Peking, PI 88788, and PI 437654 have widely been used for breeding programs in the US (Vuong et al. 2013). Understanding of resistance to the nematodes have remained limited because most of the reported resistance QTL have not been cloned. Also, continuous cultivation of soybean cultivars with the same resistance sources may accelerate selection pressure for SCN as well as other nematode species. Therefore, development of soybean cultivars with multiple nematodes resistance would be essential to prevent losses by the nematodes that can occur in the same field. The lack of diversity for SCN, RKN, and RN resistance source in current soybean cultivars still emphasizes the necessity of identifying new resistance genes/QTL. Therefore, continuous germplasm screening to find new germplasm and genes/QTL would be required for successful soybean breeding programs. The identification of new genetic sources with broad spectrum resistance to multiple SCN HG types, RKN and RN would be beneficial for the development of germplasm and varieties to reduce losses from these nematode species (Lee ...
