Skellig Essay Questions
Skellig Essay
Analyse the themes of imagination, belief and disbelief in the novel.
Skellig, a novel by David Almond, is something rare; something that encapsulates the fleeting nature
of childhood. Almond uses many different literary techniques to achieve this, and I will be focusing
on and discussing three of the most prominent: imagination, belief and disbelief, throughout my
essay. Using these themes as a base, Almond incorporates many controversial topics into the book,
making a statement about his own beliefs and disbeliefs, and leaves the rest up to the reader s
imagination.
Imagination takes its hold in the reader s brain from page one, and continues to keep the readers
mind on edge all the way through to the very last page. A true... Show more content on

One example of this is Mina s strong opposition towards going to school See how school shutters
you, She said. I m drawing, painting, reading, looking. I m feeling the sun and the air on my
skin. I m listening to the blackbird s song. I m opening my mind. Ha! School! (Page 58). Mina is
a character who has an abundance of opinions, someone who fills her conversations with poetry,
and things she has learnt. She is the one who teaches Michael about the Archaeopteryx, about
sculpting, drawing, William Blake, and about friendship. As Michael and Mina have to choose
to believe their eyes when they see Skellig s true form, and to keep helping him without any
parental or adult supervision What is he? I said. We can t know. Sometimes we just have to
accept that there are things that we can t know. Why is your sister ill? Why did my father die?
She held my hand. Sometimes we think we should be able to know everything. But we can t. We
have to allow ourselves to see what there is to see, and we have to imagine. (Page 140). Michael s
parents have to believe that their baby will get better. Coot has to believe that Michael will come

Women s Power Struggles
Women have fought to expand their own political power, a power that thought much of
American History has been denied to them. In this paper I will address the struggles women
faced as they tried to achieve this power. I will speak about the struggles women faced in
Education, Labor, and Political Power. Currently, as of June 14, 2015, 19% of congress is made
up of women; however this is a recent achievement. Women have gone through many struggles in
order to achieve the place that they are currently at. The struggle for power began around 1848 once
women became aware of their unequal and unfair status in society. This stuck the first women
suffrage movement which was led by Elizabeth Cady Stantonand Lucretia Mott. This... Show more

This amendment gain the support of millions, however many men and women feared that this
would prompt unwanted change. Therefore the ERA failed to ratify for the constitution. In
spite of the ERA failure, numerous amounts of women have achieved strong positions for
themselves in a political, social, and economic aspect of their lives. Although many women
were barred from many unions, they formed unions of their own which were led by powerful
leaders; they worked to demand better working conditions as well as equal pay for equal work,
and the ending of child labor. One of the female leaders whom made the biggest impact is
perhaps Mary Harris Jones, better known as Mother Jones . Mother Jones supported the Great
Strike of 1877, which was a strike that began on July 14 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, United
States and approximately 45 days later, labor unions were not involved; these were spontaneous
outbreaks in numerous cities of violence. She then later organized for the United Mine Workers
of America (UMW), she endured death threats as well as jail with the coal miners who had
given her the nickname Mother Jones . Not only did Mother Jones help women and coal mine
workers but she also helped the children. In 1903 she led 80 mill children; many had hideous
injuries due to labor, on a march to home of Theodore Roosevelt in order to expose the cruelties of

Leatherback Turtle Summary
The author starts the passage by introducing the old belief which is skillful deep diving animals are
always marine mammals, and states that that s not an accurate statement using the evidence from
his research. In the second paragraph, he talks about how active the leatherback turtles are. Then
connect the fact that leatherback turtles rarely stop swimming to the methods of studying them at
sea used by researchers. From paragraph 4 to paragraph 5, the author suggests the reason for
incessant diving of the leatherback turtle. Lastly, the author proved his hypothesis on reason for
continuous diving of leatherback turtles, providing additional circumstantial evidence. The author
mentions marine mammals such as elephant seals and sperm whales

Social Media And Its Effects On Society Essay
Nations around the globe rely on all types of media to address the general population about
occurring events or incidents in the country. Countries such as America and China are well known
for their excessive use of the media to cover important and none important events around the nation.
The general public is affected by the media s control in many forms, which can include media
marketing of consumerism and social media. The Truman Showalludes the society in which
compliance is forced, due to the media s overwhelming control over the general public; and
argues that there is no actual media control can be broken free from, because it is a person s
choice to seek their own path to freedom. This theme is illustrated through the symbolism of the
characters of Christof, Truman s Wife Meryl, and Truman. The claim is supported by the
articles that include, 13 ways of looking at The Truman Show by Yacowar , Mapping the culture
of control by Wise J. Macgregor, and The Staging of real life by Kilborn . The central argument
that, We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented (Wise), is supported in
Mapping the culture of control by Wise because the general public want what everyone wants due
to their need of fitting in with the so called social norm.
Christof s purpose is that of a symbolic character in which he supports the media s control over the
general public. In many parts throughout the film Christof displays himself as overpowering and
condescending

Implementing A New Communication Record For Tracking...
Assessment of Problem: Clearly describe the problem in your work unit and your plan to solve the
problem.
The problem within the work unit is that we tend to be complacent and sees things as they are
and not as they could be. The Agency s mission is To responsibly provide access to quality health
coverage for vulnerable Mississippians. In order to accurately carry out this mission, the Office of
Appeals needs to aggressively keep up with advances in technology (i.e. computer application and
software), and eagerly embrace new found ways of ensuring that our clients receive information
and assistance as quick and efficiently as possible. My plan to solve this problem is to create, and
then recommend implementing a new communication record for tracking beneficiaries and clients
request for a state eligibility hearing. Each record will be assigned an appeal number that would
allow us to track the case from receipt through resolution.
To date, the Office of Appeals is utilizing an Excel spreadsheetto record and track incoming
requests (See Attachment I). The spreadsheet displays data in text and numbers, which allows
sorting and calculations. The problem with the spreadsheet is it does not effectively provide
electronic tracking of incoming eligibility appeal requests from the Agency s thirty (30) regional
offices. Also, the problem is that the spreadsheet does not allow space for more specific data to be
entered that is considered pertinent to the case (See Attachment

The Goals And Processes Of Inductive And Deductive Processes
Contrast the goals and processes of inductive and deductive processes when it comes to the study of
scripture.
The inductive and deductive processes are the methods that we apply to use our understanding and
practice in studying scriptures in the bible. The goal of the inductive processes is to understand the
particulars which is based on a set of conclusive ideas. In studying bible scriptures the goal is to
engage and immerse ourselves in the words of what the bible scriptures is conveying to us. The
induction process to studying scriptures Is essentially a comprehensive, holistic study of the bible
that takes into account every aspect of the existence of the biblical text and that intentional in
allowing the Bible in its final canonical shape to speak to us on its own terms, thus leading to
accurate, original, compelling, and profound interpretation and contemporary appropriation (Bauer
and Traina 2006, 7).
Acquiring the spiritual truth requires us to be motivated and disciplined in a manner that engages
our spiritual connection to God in that As Christian believers, we are convinced that the
development of a methodical, inductive approach is the means of training the mind to become a
more fit instrument for the operation of God s spirit. Because biblical interpretation is to be
valid...But the mind s proper function is not automatic; therefore the mind needs to be trained, or it
might become the means negating God s spirit (Bauer and Traina 2006, 10). In contrast,

A Large Computer Forensics Laboratory
A Coordination Plan is critical to the success of a large computer forensics laboratory. It is
necessary for not only members of the forensics team, but for synchronizing with organizational
leads and legal entities. Most labs are operated under best practices and are structured within a
hierarchy from the investigation assistant, the lab assistant, the lead investigator as well as the
project lead. These positions can be changed based on the case and expertise required. Best
practices state that personnel assignments should be made prior to starting the investigation. The
coordination plan should be discussed at all levels of an organization since the lab needs to comply
with the overall rules and regulations of the organization, but it is also likely that the lab s functions
will impact the organization at some point. Competencies Coordination is critical at the senior
leadership level in order to facilitate continuity of operations plan (COOP) planning. Most facilities
that are Information technology centric focuses primarily on IT contingency plan. The IT
contingency plan is a function of the COOP and must be orchestrated with great care. In order to
create a comprehensive COOP, many departments within the organization must be involved.
Finance, managers, network engineers, facilities personnel, system administrators, and security
professionals are key stakeholders during COOP development process. Coordination with outside
organizations is required in order to

Chicago River Research Paper
The Chicago River was settled by Native American tribes and they were the first to discover the
portage between the Chicago River and Des Plaines River. The portage of the river is a valuable
to Europeans since it is linked to the Great Lakes with the Mississippi that is a good way to
export and import goods and the shipbuilding industry. The river has been reversed in 1889 by
the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal to keep the sewage clean and flushing filthy water into
Lake Michigan due to the waterborne diseases that people were dying of to cholera or. Later
again in 1922 the Cal Sag Channel built a channel to lock out too much lake water from going into
the river because states sued Chicago that they were using to much of Lake Michigan s water to

Toxins in the water contribute to problems of the river because of the many times back in the day
when businesses dumped their waste into the river and till today isn t not yet cleared. Another
problem of the Chicago River is that the public has to interest and don t take any access towards
the river because the river is fenced and some people still remember the awful stinky smell and
the black color. The purpose of this field trip was to go test the different chemicals that are in the
water and the health of it and see what can be found in it. The field trip lets people know what
kind of biodiversity is around the river or in the river to see and determine the health of the river to

need to adopt new practices and techniques when dealing with the public if deadly use of force is

Bad Body Image Days Or Bad Self Image

Eating too late....Eating late is not bad, you will not gain weight in the long run if you eat
something at night. That s just another diet fad and there s no hard evidence to back it up. It s
meant for people trying to lose weight to retain from snacking on unhealthy foods at night.
However, your body does not just stop working when you go to bed, your heart is still pumping
blood and your organs are still doing their thing. However, if you eat a heavy meal, usually heavy
in carbs or salt, and then go to bed, you may notice waking up a little more bloated because you re
not moving around as much as you normally do throughout the day helping digestion along.
Salt carbs and water...If you re eating too much salt you may bloat due to salt s ability to hold onto
water. SOME PEOPLE, not all, notice bloating after eating too many carbs, this is because carbs
are usually the most voluminous of the foods taking up more room in your stomach and also
retain water. However, this is not to say carbs are bad, neither is salt. Eat the piece of bread
Darla. You also may not be drinking enough water. Your cells need water to function and if you re
not drinking enough water, your body will enter stress mode causing your cortisol levels (or stress
hormones) to rise causing it to retain water in order to make sure your cells are getting their fair
amount.

The Documentary Child Of Rage
The documentary, Child of Rage (HBO Monet, 1990), is sad and disturbing. According to the
American Psychiatric Association (APA, 2013), the child meets much of the criteria for
conduct disorder. The child was shown to frequently bully, threaten, intimidate, use pins on
people and animals with the intention to harm, was physically cruel to people and animals, stole
and hid knives, sexually molested her little brother and stated she wanted to kill her parents and
brother which are many of criterion A set forth in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5 (APA,
2013). She did not seem to be remorseful or feel guilty at the beginning of the HBO Monet
(1990) documentary but did express remorse as evidenced crying at the end. While she was
talking with the interviewer she seemed to exhibit a lack of empathy and did not show emotion
and would most likely have a specifier of childhood onset with limited prosocial emotions and is
severe (APA, 2013). I felt it was remarkable the therapy she received did so much for her and
literally saved her life.
Reactive attachment disorder is described (Kress Paylo, 2014) as a disorder in which the child
received extreme neglect by the primary caregiver and as a result does not form emotional bonds
with others. Recent studies, state Kress Paylo (2014), show that all children in order to develop
emotional bonding with others need their basic physical and emotional requirements met. This was
also the case with the little girl in the HBO

The Blasphemy Law that Malala mentioned in Chapter 17 restricted Pakistani citizens freedom in
beliefs. They are not allowed to speak their mind out against the Holy Quran without being

was about people of all religions being free to worship in the new Pakistan (222). This also ties in
with Malala thinking Jinnah would be disappointed with the poor changes in Pakistan. According

The Museum s Main Purpose Essay
The museum s main purpose is not only to educate the public about American Indians, but also to
deconstruct stereotypes and give tribal members something along the lines of a safe place where
they are welcome to embrace their ethnicity. One factor that showcases the information I
previously stated is the fact that tribal members have free admission into the museum. Another
way the museum salutes the ethnicity of American Indians is by commemorating Native
individuals alive today. Names of famous Native Americans are displayed along with their
contributions to the ethnic group. One of the people displayed is Sarah Deer, who is a professor
and lawyer that fought for Tribal Jurisdiction. Upon arrival, I was informed that the museum is
divided by Tribe and the regions in which each tribe was located. The museum is divided into
Alaska/Canada, Northwest Coast, Southwest, Plains, and Woodlands. The reason I think it is
divided this way is so that every person who visits has the ability to learn about each region of
tribes separately. It is easy to make assumptions that Native Americans were all the same, but the
truth is that they are all unique. Each tribe has their own customs, clothing, food, and ways of life.
The Alaska/Canada region includes tribes like the Athapaskan, Inuit, Cree, Chipewyan, Ojibwe,
Naskapi, and the Montagnais. Because these tribes had to deal with an extremely harsh
environment, they adapted by utilizing animals and tools to help them survive. Their

Rfid Technology For The Consumer And The Producer Alike
Technology is quickly evolving and changing our everyday tasks. The next big thing is RFID
technology. RFID, also known as Radio Frequency Identification Device, is making it easier for
the consumer to pay without swiping their card or without signing. Many already know RFID as
pay pass where you simply wave your credit card over an RFIDtransmitter to pay for purchases.
There are many benefits and cons to this new technology for the consumer and the producer alike.
RFID has been around longer than the average American realizes. In World War II we start to see
this new technology emerge in the form of a radar. A handful of nations used the radar to detect
approaching planes from miles out. While this was handy, the problem with the radar ... Show more

Similar technology, such as the IFF transponder, was routinely used by the allies and Germany
in World War II to identify aircraft as friend or foe (Stockman, 1948). In the 1950 s 1960 s
scientists did research on how Radio Frequency could be used to distinguish objects remotely.
Companies soon began to create anti theft systems that used Radio Frequency to determine if
something had been paid for or not. This technology is still used today in stores all around the
world. As you enter or leave a store you walk through two gay columns on either side of the door,
these are used as the transmitter and in every item in the store there is a chip. If the chip is not
deactivated as the consumer checks out, then it will send a signal to the transmitter in the gray
columns and the transmitter will in turn sound an alarm. This alerts the store that something has
either been stolen or it was not fully scanned (Roberti, The History of RFID Technology ).
On January 23, 1973 Mario W. Cardullo received the first U.S. patent for an active RFID tag
rewriteable memory. In the same year, a California entrepreneur named Charles Walton, received
a patent for a passive transponder used to unlock a door without a key (Roberti, The History of
RFID Technology ). This type of RFID is used with most companies today. There is a chip

Essay on Drugs and Rock and Roll
Drugs and Rock and Roll Beginning with the late 1960 s counterculture in San Francisco, music
and drugs will forever be inter linked. Hippie bands such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman
Brothers, and Phish are associated with marijuana, mushrooms, and LSD. Modern electronic rave
, or club music is associated with MDMA or Ecstasy. When one thinks of rock and roll, sex and
drugs immediately come to mind. While the use of drugs is not essential for the creation or
performance of all new music, it was certainly in important factor for the counterculture music of
the late 1960 s. While some of the most important and influential music was made with the help of
psychoactive drugs, it was often to the detriment of the artist. Janis... Show more content on

Psychedelics, and drugs in general became such an important part of life during the 60 s that it s
influence was inescapable. Nowhere can this fact be seen more clearly than in the music of the
time. The most obvious influence drugs had on music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug
references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in
the Sky with Diamonds , obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug
inspired, as Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from Aldous
Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of drug use. Even the
music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of the music by the Doors. Their
song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in
the song was probably created with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard
while on drugs. This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much
more clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of their music
is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs. Hearing one of their 30
minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that is the experience that they intended
the audience to have. While drugs were very much connected to the music of the sixties,

Judge Danforth In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s The Crucible was a historical play based on the Salem witch trials of 1692 that
focused on all its inconsistencies and dark secrets. It all started when a group of young girls
were claiming they were possessed by the devil and began pointing fingers at local people who
they had an issue with or simply didn t like. This brought major consequences to the town and
many people were killed and imprisoned. The community of Salem is destroyed by the
ignorance and selfishness of Judge Danforth. Judge Danforth, being the weighty judge he is, was

Ancient Persia
The Ancient Persian Empire, also known as the Achaemenid Empire, was the first largest,
continental empire. Under Darius I, it stretched from India to Africa to Southeastern Europe.
Ancient Persia by Dr. Matt Waters is a detailed overview of the period (c. 550 330 BCE) from
the predecessors of the mid first millennium to the Macedonian conquest. Dr. Waters, a professor
of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Wisconsin, is also the author of A Survey of
Neo Elamite History (2000) and has published extensively in academic journals. The impact of
the empire, its scope and durability, and...its ability to project and maintain its power, was
revolutionary at the time. The book offers a general Persian overview while relying on Greek
resources and artifacts. The research outlines are well represented and are useful to readers,
highlighting of the difficulties in the Classical era throughout the discussions. My reflections on

Joanne Ng 588141 To what extent does the influence of social determinants factors have on
happiness? Happiness is usually expressed as the point to which an individual assesses the total
worth of his or her existence as a whole positively (Veenhoven, 1993), and regularly, considered on
an ordinal scale of answers to biased questions. Most experimental findings consume various kinds
of self reported ideals on happiness or particular well being dignified from various scaling methods.
Happiness is a personal and multi dimensional notion every distinct person depicts it in a diverse
way, it is comparative, and it is determine by an extensive range of influences, involving individual
personalities. Consequently, allowing it to be assessable and creating causal relationships a task.
The information and experimental studies distinguish between the natures of happiness and
noticing the connected expressions life s satisfaction and well being. The explanations of
recognised ideas overlap through the proposal on happiness and are separated into numerous
categories. In this study, the main ideas associated to happiness and their factors are shortened in
order to pinpoint the major distinctions between the suggested terms and to determine the
theoretical agenda. The pursuit for

Graduation Speech On My Exchange Year
Good evening to everyone and thanks President Rob for giving me the opportunity to have this
last presentation about my exchange year in Australia. One year has gone, and I can admit that
many things happened but I couldn t be happier about it. Today is my 340th day here in
Australia: I came in a place without knowing anyone, without my family or my friends and I had
the chance to live another life that I built with my hands. I wasn t alone though: I had my host
families that always supported me; the Elliot family as the first one, the Shirlaw s as the second,
the Mann s as the third and the Gormely s as the fourth and last one. They have been there for me
when I needed it, even if in different ways, and because of them I grew a lot: I m... Show more

Secondly, you get to share your culture with another country in the world that is sharing their
amazing culture as well; you get to know new amazing people that will remain your friends for
your whole life. Being an exchange student means that you discover new ways of living, and
because you are hosted by different families, that way changes every time: it could be a
difference in what you eat, in what you do and in what you gain knowledge of; it could be the
language that they use in the house, or in how many kids they have. Being an exchange student
means also that you get to know many others exchange students, and the best ones, I have to say,
are always the ones from the Rotary organisation. I met my group of exchange students (District
9520 and 9500) for the first time the 29th of August 2015: saying that we were is shy is nothing,
but being shy with them doesn t means that I didn t talk to them because we talked a lot that day,
we had so much to talk about: being shy with them means that we didn t know each other at the
time and is always kind of weird thinking that they are sharing my same emotions at my same time.
We saw each other again during a Rotary weekend in Lameroo in October (just my district 9520),
and then again in Calperum in November (but with the other district 9500 too), and then all together

Essay on Suffering from Sleep Disorder
He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon
the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of
God . Said by: Aeschylus. To me this simply mean don t do something which you are not
comfortable with. When you do something bad it might not affect you at the beginning but it will
affect you later in your life. For example in the play Shakespeare Macbethhad Banquo murder so
he could become king and he didn t think anything will happen to him cause he had three witches
who told him everything will be okay and he will be king. However that didn t happen after
Banquo was murder Macbeth had started to see Banquo, which he then start to act... Show more

Again, no big deal until, that is, ten other people have to do the same thing, and suddenly the
parking lot is a chaotic storm of nomadic vehicles being driven by irritated people because some
animal couldn t put their cart away. Additionally, carts may roll around on the pavement, bashing
into vehicles, damaging property, and just overall being a nuisance. None of these issues,
however, are the biggest ones caused by this act of negligence. By choosing not to put their carts
away, customers are saying that such an action is beneath them and can be done by an employee
in short, someone lesser than them, (the customer.) It is degrading to the employee, and overall
disrespectful, particularly during times of bad weather. Because someone did not feel like
putting away something which they had used for their own convenience, someone else now has
to walk around an icy parking lot in sub zero temperatures putting the carts away for hours on
end. This relates to an ethos based thinking, as it is an ethical issue but of course, no one thinks
about that and if they do, they cover it up by saying That s the employee s job. It is a fireman s
job to put out fires, but does that mean arson is an acceptable practice? Leaving carts behind in

Chocolat Movie Critique
Chocolat is about a war between the forces of paganism and Christianity, and because the pagan
heroine has chocolate on her side, she wins. Her victory is delayed only because, during Lent, a
lot of the locals aren t eating chocolate. The movie happens in the backdrop of a French village.
Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche), an expert chocolatier, drifts across Europe with her daughter
Anouk (Victorie Thivisol), following the north wind. In the beginning of the Lenten season in
1959, fifteen years after the War, they travel to the French village that closely adheres to tradition,
as led by the village mayor, the Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina).
Just as the villagers begin observing the forty days of Lent, Vianne opens a chocolate shop, much to

Working Principle Of The Hybrid Adc System
Working principle of the hybrid ADC system
AD cycle consists of four processes as shown in Fig. 4. These processes are: Isosteric heating
process (1 2): adsorption pair is heated without changing initial adsorbate concentration (C_i ).
Isobaric desorption process (2 3): adsorption pair is heated up with changing adsorbate
concentration from C_i to final concentration (C_f ). On the other side, the desorbed water vapor is
condensed in condenser releasing heat of condensation at condenser temperatureгЂ–
(TгЂ—_cond). Isosteric cooling process (3 4): adsorbent material is cooled down without changing
adsorbate concentration atгЂ– CгЂ—_f. Isobaric adsorption process (4 1): the adsorbent adsorbs
vapor at evaporator pressure P_evap. In this process, the adsorbate concentration is increased from
C_f to C_i and releasing heat of adsorption. The adsorbate is evaporated and producing a cooling
effect in the evaporator.
The procedure used in conducting the experiments is;

History of Spanking Essay
Since the birth of the nation Americans have wrestled about the topic of spanking children for
discipline. We waver back and forth for a while it is okay and expected that we will discipline
the children by using corporal punishment. Then everything changes and for years it is no longer
acceptable. It has been the subject of many heated debates and will continue to do so as long as
we have parents and as long as they raise children. In the long run we will find out if spanking
turned out to be an asset or a liability but for the immediate future it is something America needs
to go back to using for guidance purposes. We are seeing more violence in teenagers than ever
before, the juvenile crime rate seems to be rising and for the last two... Show more content on

Members of the House of Prayer say their brand of corporal punishment is nothing more than an
old fashioned spanking. State officials say the spankings administered to at least two of the
children in that church crossed the line (Matrz, 2001). Corporal punishment, the DFCS manual
says, is any physical punishment of a child to inflict pain as a deterrent to wrong doing. It may
produce transitory pain and potential bruising. If pain and bruising are not excessive or unduly
severe and result only in short term discomfort, this is not considered maltreatment (Matrz, 2001).
Where the line is crossed, Liber said, is when the discipline causes injuries to the child. Once
physical injury is left (on the child), it constitutes child abuse and we have to intervene, she said
(Matrz, 2001). While courts continue to rule that spanking is okay, and schools are still using it as
a measure of punishment in many areas of the county there are millions of Americans who protest
the use of corporal punishment as a means to control or teach children lessons. For those who are
against spanking they use the argument that it is assault on a child. Any form of hitting even a swat
on the butt is an assault on a human being and should. Most parents feel strongly for or strongly
against spanking. Their positions are mainstays of their basic approaches to their children. At my

Hoosier Hysteria
Hoosier Hysteria; this phrase brings together families and friends together to watch college
basketball history season after season. Indiana University has been one of the top known and
stunningly successful team for over sixty years. Although Indiana has been spotty in between some
coaches there are certain coaches that have put IU on the record books. Ranking number one in the
nation for weeks and weeks the hoosiers are undeniably one of the bests. Through various coaching
methods and philosophies, four coaches stood out changed the Indiana basketballprogram
immensely Firstly, Branch McCracken, the coach of the 1938 to 1943 and also 1946 to 1965
Indiana Hoosier, was one of the top 3 coaches statistically scoring teams in IU basketball. With
both seasoned combined he saw a great record of 364 174. During his intermission between the
two times that he coached McCracken served in the United States Army for World War 2.
Coaching Indiana he lead them to have six perfect seasons which averaged around 24 0. The
Hoosiers were unstoppable and they went all the way to win a NCAA title and 20 wins, which
at the time was the record. This win put him in the record books as the youngest coach ever to
win a NCAA tournament. The 20 3 record would not again be beat for thirteen years until broken
by Indiana again (Pfeiffer). McCracken was also never a hateful and biased person, he viewed all

Educating Rita By Willy Russell
Educating Rita written in 1980 by Willy Russell, is a play that explores the way in which a
working class Liverpudlian woman, Rita (Susan), follows the change from unhappiness to
happiness. The story is a comedy, which revolves around the growing personal relationship between
Rita, and her Open University Literature tutor, Dr. Frank Byrant. Russell often mocks many parts of
society at a time when the play was set including education, social classand patriarchy.
Rita is used to create comedy within the play, and introduces her to a contrasting character,
Frank, to provide a difficult relationship. Rita is lively and bubbly from a working class
background, where she was not able to achieve the education that she would have liked, See if I d
started taking school seriously I would have been different from my mates, and that s not allowed.
Frank, who is from a middle class background, does not have the energy or enthusiasm for his work
or teaching anymore. This automatically creates conflict with one another, as they have been
brought up living within two very different environments. When Rita has her first lesson, Frank is
clearly very unenthusiastic about having to teach Rita, because she came in so confidently, ready to
learn and extremely enthusiastic the opposite to how Frank was feeling at the time. Apart from
their difference in class, Frank and Rita struggle to communicate to start with. There is use of
colloquial, working class Liverpudlian dialect, which

Prior to formally entering the financial crisis, a range of signs forecasting this event had happened
around the world. Problems with short term debt funding and mortgaged assets were not limited
to the United States, which is also the underlying cause of the financial crisis (Stoeckel, 2009).
In 2001, the U.S economy fell into recession after the dotcom crisis and the terrorist event on
September 11. To encourage the consumption, the central bank had lowered interest rates. The
result was that with interest rates so low, investment and consumption became too easy, the U.S
financial markets rapidly back and created real estate bubble . Started from the housing market,
the crisis quickly spread to the entire U.S financial system bank. In 2007, the 4th biggest bank in
the U.S, name Lehman Brothers was under pressure. Lehman tried many different ways to save
itself such as raise capital, sign a deal with Morgan Stanley and Bank of America, merger with
Barclays but none of it worked ( Financial Crisis 2007/2008 Overview, 2011). From here,
everything was ready for the crisis explosion in September 2008.

There are so many reasons lead to global financial crisis in 2008. In this case, I want to mention to
seven main causes which directly promoted financial collapse. 2.1 The housing bubble

The Crucible Critical Analysis
The English philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon, once wrote, Reading maketh a full man; conference

talking about those ideas makes one adaptable to differences in others, and writing forces one is

as students read and annotate out of the hymnals, discuss major texts in class, and write essays
each week over the material. During the last semester alone the Junior Honors English class read
several texts by American Authors from the ancient oral cosmogonist myths of Native Americans
to the Feminist literature of the 1890 s. In the entire range of different texts read, three specific
texts were the most important in room 303. The Crucible by Arthur Miller makes one reflect on
one s morals as the play unfolds. The 1953 play revolves around the town of puritan Salemand the
actual people and events of the famous Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in
the height of the Red Scare, and his play reveals the mass hysteria and paranoia which plagued
America at the time. Many of the innocent people accused in both Salem and in the 1950 s faced
not only a biased court, but a questioning of morality as the choice often was oneself gets jacked

I am conducting biomedical research in the laboratory of cardiac physiology under the mentorship
of Dr. Elizabeth Murphy. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in the US; therefore, a
better understanding of the mechanisms regulating cardiomyocyte death in ischemia and
reperfusion injury are important. Mitochondrial calcium plays a crucial role in the normal
functioning of many processes, including the regulation of cardiac biochemical pathways and
mediating ischemia reperfusion injury. The uptake of calcium into the mitochondrial matrix is
regulated by the mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU). An endogenous enzyme, Ca2+

To test these hypotheses I am using wild type mouse embryonic fibroblast (WT MEFs) to test
changes in calcium uptake with and without KN93.To test the first hypothesis I am using
calcium retention capacity assay to assess the uptake of calcium on three subgroups WT only,
WT and DMSO, WT and KN93. This assay is used because it effectively compares calcium
uptake between the subgroups. Considering that KN93 inhibits CaMKII I expect the WT+KN93
group to take up lower amounts of calcium and thus not reach calcium retention capacity. To test
the second hypothesis, I am conducting MTT and propidium iodide testing on four different

of cell viability and death respectively. I used MTT testing to assess cell viability post exposure of

among the different groups. I decided to use propidium iodide staining to better test the
cardioprotection of MEFs in ischemic like conditions that would better account for the confounding

It is possible for an individual who dies or becomes totally disabled at an early age to be classified
as fully insured with less than 40 quarters. To receive old age insurance benefits, covered
individuals must also meet the test of retirement. To meet this test, persons under 70 cannot be
earning more than an established amount through gainful employment. This limitation of earnings
does not include income from sources other than gainful employment such as investments or
pensions. Social security retirement benefits consist of those benefits which individuals are entitled
to receive in their own behalf, called the primary insurance amount, plus supplemental benefits for
eligible dependents. These benefits can be determined from a prepared table. There are also both
minimum and maximum limits to the amount that individuals and their dependents can receive.
The Social Security program provides benefit payments to workers who are too severely
disabled to engage in gainful employment. In order to be eligible for such benefits, an individual

Media And Gender Stereotypes
Sheryl Sandberg, an activist, once said We can each define ambition and progress for ourselves.
The goal is to work towards a world where expectations are not set by the stereotypes that hold us
back, but by our personal passion, talents, and interests. Media is easily accessible to many and
is where millions look for role models. Through the media, high standards are set for women,
men, and children all more than likely unattainable. Body types are knit picked along the side of
what people wear. TV programs will speak about their political views, opinions, and beliefs and at
this age, it s hard to understand what all of it truly means.
Most of the time we will just go with what everyone else believes, it s easier and they won t cause
any conflict. All of this is forced upon us without asking for it, eventually affecting the outlook on
certain things and permanently altering emotions towards serious matters. This is something that I
would not wish upon anyone, but it is actually happening to everyone. The media is full of
perception altering advertisements and television programs that cause the subconscious to forever
be revised to the opinions and beliefs presented.
The most commonly discussed problem with media advertisements is the stereotypes that are fed,
especially gender stereotypes. Stereotyping is described as a widely held but fixed and
oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Print advertisements, television
programs/commercials,

Stigmata And Religion
Today we will be breaking down the religious aspects in the 1999 supernatural horror film
Stigmata. It is one of my favorite movies because of the allure and how it tried to give a different
take on religion. It was one of the first of its kind to explore the concept of Stigmata and in a
different light that was seen highly offensive to Catholics which is where the concept of Stigmata
comes from, which is the Roman Church. To some Catholics stigmata is a sign of holiness, so in
theory, there is no reason for an atheist to bare the marks of Jesus. While the movie was amazing to
someone like me because I am a secular humanist and just enjoyed the movie for it being a movie,
stigmata lacks a lot of true connection to how stigmata actually works in terms of how Catholics
view it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A man named Paulo Almeida died and was said to have experienced stigmata himself. At his
funeral a young boy had stolen a rosary that was used by Paulo Almeida and the little boy sold it
to a woman who sent it to her daughter which is Frankie Page. Frankie Page is an atheist, but
decided to wear it anyway. After wearing this Rosary she started experiencing stigmata. She is
bathing and gets hit while nothing or no one is there and receives deep cuts on her wrist. This
progresses to her even getting cut on her head from Jesus s crown of thorns. So that in itself is the
plot of movie which is an atheist being confronted with a religious experience, we get to see the
effects of evidence to a

INTRODUCTION
1. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Organization as a system use different types of resources including materials, finance, information,
and human resource, among these resources human resource is the engine that helps the
organization to meet its goal. As this time to be in copes up with the competitive environment,
organizations require making a decision of choosing appropriate training and development
strategies to capitalize its human resources. Human resource training and development is a key
factor for organizational success and effectiveness. Carefully designed and executed training is not
a cost but an investment with encouraging returns and an instrument for preparing the staff for
further and sustainable development. (oljira 1999:14) Many organizations including banks need to

How Did Hippocrates Change The World
Hippocrates was a doctor who changed the world with his ideas. He is the father of modern
medicine. and is responsible for our modern day health treatment. He changed the idea of where
diseases come from, changed the use of the scientific method, and also had the idea of practical
medical practices. To start off Hippocratescame up with the idea of where modern medicinecomes
from. The passage states He was the first to trace disease to a natural and understandable cause,
and to recognize nature as all sufficient for healing, and physicians as her only servant. I think what
the author means by this is that he basically had the idea that all remedies didn t have to come from
the supernatural but in fact they can be found in

Difference Between Politics And Political Culture
1.The differences between political opinion and political culture begin with the public. Political
opinion is what and how the public feel about certain policies and issues dealing with political
leaders and generally how the country is running. Political culture on the other hand deals with the
public s norms and values in society. The main difference between political opinion and political
culture are how political culture deals with the religion, history and economy of a nation while
political opinion is the way the people of nation view their nation. A major difference between the
two and probably the largest distinction between them is political opinion is constantly changing
with the ebb and flow of the nation s political climate while political culture tend be stagnant and
rooted in the communities that first started them, being passed down generation to generation
usually dealing with a foqaue or a custom or ritual that is common throughout a specific political
culture. Political culture and opinion also have some similarities, political opinions tie directly into
what political culture you belong too and both deal with the people s view on the politicsof
government.
2. Political socialization is the process in which a person gains their political beliefs or values.
Political socialization can be found almost anywhere you look but is most prevalent in the family
home. Most children adopt the political beliefs of their parents even if those beliefs go directly

U.s. National Security Efforts And Defending The Nation Essay
Counterterrorism is the use of personnel and tools to acquire, disturb, or dismantle terrorist
networks and their affiliates. Counterterrorism is essentially an offensive approach to a terrorist
threat involving intelligence operations, diplomacy, military operations, and counterterrorism
training. Despite party affiliation and different approaches, both the Bush and Obama
administrations have been devoted to U.S. national security efforts and defending the nation.
During the Republican Bush administration, 9/11 was both a significant terrorist attack and also a
significant event during Bush s time as president. The group behind 9/11 was a terrorist
organization named al Qaeda, lead by Osama bin Laden. Founded on August 18th 1988, al Qaeda
is a group of Islamic extremists who call for the the creation of caliphate or an Islamic state. 9/11
was a form of vengeance against the U.S. in response to the country s participation in the Gulf
War, continued military presence in the Middle East, and support of Israel. On September 11th
2001, 19 members of al Qaeda hijacked four planes, crashing two into the World Trade Center, one
into the Pentagon, and one onto a field in Pennsylvania en route to Washington. Although it was
never confirmed, it was believed that the plane en route to Washington was intended for either the
White House or the Capitol building. The attack shook the nation and claimed the lives of over
3,000 people. On the evening of September 11th, George Bush

Reinsured Essay
reinsured has granted an indemnity without having reinsurance cover (as the reinsurance contract
is voidable). A reinsurer may also rely on a breach of the underlying insured and its failure to
disclose material facts to the reinsured. In cases of non disclosure of an underlying insured, a
reinsured may make an ex gratia payment and therefore, the reinsurer may argue that there is no
indemnification. In each situation where reinsurance is voided, the reinsured is left in an
unfavourable position, affecting the reinsured s regulatory capital and solvency position. The UK
Act abolishes the avoidance as the sole remedy for a breach of the duty of good faith and provides
a range of proportionate remedies that are contingent on the intention of the reinsured. This is
similar to the Act, which provides for a remedy proportionate to the failure to comply with a duty of
disclosure in relation to general insurance contracts and for life insurance contracts, variation to the
terms. Therefore, the UK Act closely aligns with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fallen Bird Research Paper
Fallen Bird
Stiff and smooth sticking out between my aching toes, the grass flirts with my feet giving me the
illusion that it knows who I am. I lift myself up from the ground and head straight, making sure my
front sole feels the rough rubble that no one cares to pick up. My toes touch the fine cinder and I
measure out two steps before I turn and start running. I count the steps in my head and feel the
track slightly turn and follow the movement swiftly, conquering the track that I practiced so hard to
master in order to compete in my cities annual track and field meet.
My heart no longer beats as hard at it had 357 days ago, when Alistair first took me out to practice
on the track. Holding my hand each step of the way, he guided me around the track until my bare

I clench my soft bed sheets and cry into them, releasing all my energy. Alistair informed me that
the Annual Track and Field meet changed their track for this year s meet. I whimper knowing I
only have myself to blame for thinking that someone like me could win a meet. I want to lie in
bed and listen to the world pass me by but Alistair refuses to let me do so. He takes me to the track
and tells me to listen and I obey him, and I swear it is as if those birds I envy so much are
chanting my name, telling me to go on.
The sun embraces me by wrapping its rays all over my visible skin and the wind tickles me as it
passes by to say hello. I wait for the track meet to beginning, living off hope that I can feel the
ground curves in order to win this meet. I stand in my position, next to a cold arm that has
already started sweating and a man talking about his many years of experience. I hear mumbling
from a lady with a microphone so far away from me it feels so surreal, and a loud bomb that
rattles inside my chest. I speed off, my bare feet hitting the ground with a strong

Norman Red Tail Hawk Essay
RED TAIL HAWK PERMENATLY IN NORMANS SKY
Around 5 oclock when the sunsets on the backside of the Financial Building in downtown Norman

feet tall and 150 feet wide. Sinnett an Oklahoma native born in Mustang, know by the pseudonym
Moth Man the mural in September of 2015.
His idea for the piece, Norman Red Tail Hawk has been over 20 years in the making. Growing up

clicks through the Moth Man Collection facebook or instagram account you can start to see a
theme in the use of the #artforthepeople, a campaign Sinnett began in his youth when he was
living in San Francisco selling his artwork on Upper Haight. On the back of all his 8 ВЅ by 11
prints he used to sell he included his mission statement along with a return address to his Mothers
house in Mustang, Oklahoma where they could send him a reply. Sinnett was astonished by the
responses even collecting several international letters, the replies were touching and it became about
more than him just selling his art. Sinnett was brought full circle by the outcome of the campaign,
which lead him to mural painting. Bringing art to the people is something Sinnett believes he was

Children Effective Communication
Communication is effective when what is trying to be conveyed is understood by the recipient
quickly and easily. Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with
everyone at any age and in any setting; how this is achieved varies but its value remains the same.
Every relationship begins with communicationwhether it be written or verbal if it is positive it
starts the relationship off positively and enables both parties to be happy to develop that
relationship.
With children effective communication by way of showing them that you are interested in what
they have to say, getting down to their level and using appropriate language shows them that they
are valued. This feeling of value raises the child self worth

Kitchen and Heating Plant
The kitchen, located in the basement, approximately 34 feet by 63 feet in size adjoined the Melody
Lounge on the north side (Shawmut Street). It obviously contained the normal kitchen items.
It was an unfinished room with a concrete floor, walls and ceiling.
Exits were by means of a stairway to the main dining room and by the door into the passageway,
and into the adjoining room occupied by the heating plant, which had an exit to Shawmut Street,
called the service door.
The heating plant was contained in a room approx. 16 feet by 40 feet in size, on the Shawmut
Street Side. It adjoined the kitchen and it contents consisted of a furnace, fired by fuel oil from two
275 gallon storage tanks.
Another section of the basement (on the Piedmont Street side) adjoined the kitchen and the Melody
Lounge, and was used as a storage vault.
Dressing Rooms
In the second class structure (no. 4 6 Shawmut Street), adjoining the first class structure (located
between the main dining room and the Broadway Lounge) on the second and third floors, were
located the dressing rooms used by entertainers employed at the Cocoanut Grove Club.
Entrance to these rooms was from a door leading from the main dining room near the orchestra
platform (on the Shawmut Street side), or from the Shawmut Street by a door at the foot of the
stairway to the second and third floors.
The dressing rooms had ordinary plaster walls, wooden floors and

Turing Test Paper
Computationalists and representationalists believe that machines can think. Like Alan Turing they
believe a simple test called the Turing Test will be sufficient to prove consciousness because
intelligence is an operational attribute that allows symbol manipulation. (Heil, 115) In this paper I
will argue that their claim is bogus, computers could never, in their current state, be classified as a
minded. Thus the Turing Test is an invalid test. The Turing Test, created by Alan Turing, tests for
intelligence in a systematic way, giving intelligence an operational meaning. Turing believed that
humans could one day create an artificial intelligence (AI for short) since his definition was liberal.
The basic premise of the Turing Test is that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dungeon And Dragons, Rock N Roll, And Video Games
Dungeon and Dragons, Rock N Roll, and video games, these are three separate activities that
when looked at from afar do not seem to have anything to do with each other. However, they in
fact do have something fairly big in common. They each have been blamed with being either bad
for you or a negative influence. Whether it be Dungeon and Dragons being satanic and making
people lose touch with reality, Rock N Roll s cause of juvenile delinquency, or video games
leading to violent and antisocial behavior. Now we know that at least two of those were far
fetched, those being Rock N Roll and Dungeons and Dragons, but what about the third one video
games. Do playing video games really end up making you a more violent person? Antisocial? Are
you suddenly going to commit a mass shooting or some other violent crime just because you spent
a few hours a day playing a video game? Perhaps it is the opposite are you going to become more
social? Do you develop thinking skills, and better social skills even when interacting with people
you have not met in person? Could it be both, or at least partially both? Well to put it simply it is
partially both, now video games will not suddenly make you turn into a criminal, however, there is
a possibility of negative behavioral effects. As one may know video games are a popular pastime
in our current generation, and alongside that popularity comes controversy, due to the possible
negative behavioral and health side effects. However, video games

  • 2. Skellig Essay Questions Skellig Essay Analyse the themes of imagination, belief and disbelief in the novel. Skellig, a novel by David Almond, is something rare; something that encapsulates the fleeting nature of childhood. Almond uses many different literary techniques to achieve this, and I will be focusing on and discussing three of the most prominent: imagination, belief and disbelief, throughout my essay. Using these themes as a base, Almond incorporates many controversial topics into the book, making a statement about his own beliefs and disbeliefs, and leaves the rest up to the reader s imagination. Imagination takes its hold in the reader s brain from page one, and continues to keep the readers mind on edge all the way through to the very last page. A true... Mina is a character who has an abundance of opinions, someone who fills her conversations with poetry, and things she has learnt. She is the one who teaches Michael about the Archaeopteryx, about sculpting, drawing, William Blake, and about friendship. As Michael and Mina have to choose to believe their eyes when they see Skellig s true form, and to keep helping him without any parental or adult supervision What is he? I said. We can t know. Sometimes we just have to accept that there are things that we can t know. Why is your sister ill? Why did my father die? She held my hand. Sometimes we think we should be able to know everything. But we can t. We have to allow ourselves to see what there is to see, and we have to imagine. (Page 140). Michael s parents have to believe that their baby will get better. • 3. Women s Power Struggles Women have fought to expand their own political power, a power that thought much of American History has been denied to them. In this paper I will address the struggles women faced as they tried to achieve this power. I will speak about the struggles women faced in Education, Labor, and Political Power. Currently, as of June 14, 2015, 19% of congress is made up of women; however this is a recent achievement. Women have gone through many struggles in order to achieve the place that they are currently at. The struggle for power began around 1848 once women became aware of their unequal and unfair status in society. This stuck the first women suffrage movement which was led by Elizabeth Cady Stantonand Lucretia Mott. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This amendment gain the support of millions, however many men and women feared that this would prompt unwanted change. Therefore the ERA failed to ratify for the constitution. In spite of the ERA failure, numerous amounts of women have achieved strong positions for themselves in a political, social, and economic aspect of their lives. Although many women were barred from many unions, they formed unions of their own which were led by powerful leaders; they worked to demand better working conditions as well as equal pay for equal work, and the ending of child labor. One of the female leaders whom made the biggest impact is perhaps Mary Harris Jones, better known as Mother Jones . Mother Jones supported the Great Strike of 1877, which was a strike that began on July 14 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, United States and approximately 45 days later, labor unions were not involved; these were spontaneous outbreaks in numerous cities of violence. She then later organized for the United Mine Workers of America (UMW), she endured death threats as well as jail with the coal miners who had given her the nickname Mother Jones . Not only did Mother Jones help women and coal mine workers but she also helped the children. In 1903 she led 80 mill children; many had hideous injuries due to labor, on a march to home of Theodore Roosevelt in order to expose the cruelties of child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the second paragraph, he talks about how active the leatherback turtles are. Then connect the fact that leatherback turtles rarely stop swimming to the methods of studying them at sea used by researchers. From paragraph 4 to paragraph 5, the author suggests the reason for incessant diving of the leatherback turtle. • 5. Social Media And Its Effects On Society Essay Nations around the globe rely on all types of media to address the general population about occurring events or incidents in the country. Countries such as America and China are well known for their excessive use of the media to cover important and none important events around the nation. The general public is affected by the media s control in many forms, which can include media marketing of consumerism and social media. The Truman Showalludes the society in which compliance is forced, due to the media s overwhelming control over the general public; and argues that there is no actual media control can be broken free from, because it is a person s choice to seek their own path to freedom. This theme is illustrated through the symbolism of the characters of Christof, Truman s Wife Meryl, and Truman. The claim is supported by the articles that include, 13 ways of looking at The Truman Show by Yacowar , Mapping the culture of control by Wise J. Macgregor, and The Staging of real life by Kilborn . The central argument that, We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented (Wise), is supported in Mapping the culture of control by Wise because the general public want what everyone wants due to their need of fitting in with the so called social norm. Christof s purpose is that of a symbolic character in which he supports the media s control over the general public. In many parts throughout the film Christof displays himself as overpowering and condescending ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Implementing A New Communication Record For Tracking... Assessment of Problem: Clearly describe the problem in your work unit and your plan to solve the problem. The problem within the work unit is that we tend to be complacent and sees things as they are and not as they could be. The Agency s mission is To responsibly provide access to quality health coverage for vulnerable Mississippians. In order to accurately carry out this mission, the Office of Appeals needs to aggressively keep up with advances in technology (i.e. computer application and software), and eagerly embrace new found ways of ensuring that our clients receive information and assistance as quick and efficiently as possible. My plan to solve this problem is to create, and then recommend implementing a new communication record for tracking beneficiaries and clients request for a state eligibility hearing. Each record will be assigned an appeal number that would allow us to track the case from receipt through resolution. To date, the Office of Appeals is utilizing an Excel spreadsheetto record and track incoming requests (See Attachment I). The spreadsheet displays data in text and numbers, which allows sorting and calculations. The problem with the spreadsheet is it does not effectively provide electronic tracking of incoming eligibility appeal requests from the Agency s thirty (30) regional offices. Also, the problem is that the spreadsheet does not allow space for more specific data to be entered that is considered pertinent to the case (See Attachment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Goals And Processes Of Inductive And Deductive Processes Contrast the goals and processes of inductive and deductive processes when it comes to the study of scripture. The inductive and deductive processes are the methods that we apply to use our understanding and practice in studying scriptures in the bible. The goal of the inductive processes is to understand the particulars which is based on a set of conclusive ideas. In studying bible scriptures the goal is to engage and immerse ourselves in the words of what the bible scriptures is conveying to us. The induction process to studying scriptures Is essentially a comprehensive, holistic study of the bible that takes into account every aspect of the existence of the biblical text and that intentional in allowing the Bible in its final canonical shape to speak to us on its own terms, thus leading to accurate, original, compelling, and profound interpretation and contemporary appropriation (Bauer and Traina 2006, 7). Acquiring the spiritual truth requires us to be motivated and disciplined in a manner that engages our spiritual connection to God in that As Christian believers, we are convinced that the development of a methodical, inductive approach is the means of training the mind to become a more fit instrument for the operation of God s spirit. Because biblical interpretation is to be valid...But the mind s proper function is not automatic; therefore the mind needs to be trained, or it might become the means negating God s spirit (Bauer and Traina 2006, 10). • 9. A Large Computer Forensics Laboratory A Coordination Plan is critical to the success of a large computer forensics laboratory. It is necessary for not only members of the forensics team, but for synchronizing with organizational leads and legal entities. Most labs are operated under best practices and are structured within a hierarchy from the investigation assistant, the lab assistant, the lead investigator as well as the project lead. These positions can be changed based on the case and expertise required. Best practices state that personnel assignments should be made prior to starting the investigation. The coordination plan should be discussed at all levels of an organization since the lab needs to comply with the overall rules and regulations of the organization, but it is also likely that the lab s functions will impact the organization at some point. Competencies Coordination is critical at the senior leadership level in order to facilitate continuity of operations plan (COOP) planning. Most facilities that are Information technology centric focuses primarily on IT contingency plan. The IT contingency plan is a function of the COOP and must be orchestrated with great care. In order to create a comprehensive COOP, many departments within the organization must be involved. Finance, managers, network engineers, facilities personnel, system administrators, and security professionals are key stakeholders during COOP development process. • 13. The Documentary Child Of Rage The documentary, Child of Rage (HBO Monet, 1990), is sad and disturbing. According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA, 2013), the child meets much of the criteria for conduct disorder. The child was shown to frequently bully, threaten, intimidate, use pins on people and animals with the intention to harm, was physically cruel to people and animals, stole and hid knives, sexually molested her little brother and stated she wanted to kill her parents and brother which are many of criterion A set forth in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5 (APA, 2013). She did not seem to be remorseful or feel guilty at the beginning of the HBO Monet (1990) documentary but did express remorse as evidenced crying at the end. While she was talking with the interviewer she seemed to exhibit a lack of empathy and did not show emotion and would most likely have a specifier of childhood onset with limited prosocial emotions and is severe (APA, 2013). I felt it was remarkable the therapy she received did so much for her and literally saved her life. Reactive attachment disorder is described (Kress Paylo, 2014) as a disorder in which the child received extreme neglect by the primary caregiver and as a result does not form emotional bonds with others. • 17. The Museum s Main Purpose Essay The museum s main purpose is not only to educate the public about American Indians, but also to deconstruct stereotypes and give tribal members something along the lines of a safe place where they are welcome to embrace their ethnicity. One factor that showcases the information I previously stated is the fact that tribal members have free admission into the museum. Another way the museum salutes the ethnicity of American Indians is by commemorating Native individuals alive today. Names of famous Native Americans are displayed along with their contributions to the ethnic group. One of the people displayed is Sarah Deer, who is a professor and lawyer that fought for Tribal Jurisdiction. Upon arrival, I was informed that the museum is divided by Tribe and the regions in which each tribe was located. The museum is divided into Alaska/Canada, Northwest Coast, Southwest, Plains, and Woodlands. The reason I think it is divided this way is so that every person who visits has the ability to learn about each region of tribes separately. It is easy to make assumptions that Native Americans were all the same, but the truth is that they are all unique. Each tribe has their own customs, clothing, food, and ways of life. The Alaska/Canada region includes tribes like the Athapaskan, Inuit, Cree, Chipewyan, Ojibwe, Naskapi, and the Montagnais. Because these tribes had to deal with an extremely harsh environment, they adapted by utilizing animals and tools to help them survive. Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

RFID, also known as Radio Frequency Identification Device, is making it easier for the consumer to pay without swiping their card or without signing. Many already know RFID as pay pass where you simply wave your credit card over an RFIDtransmitter to pay for purchases. There are many benefits and cons to this new technology for the consumer and the producer alike. RFID has been around longer than the average American realizes. In World War II we start to see this new technology emerge in the form of a radar. A handful of nations used the radar to detect approaching planes from miles out. Similar technology, such as the IFF transponder, was routinely used by the allies and Germany in World War II to identify aircraft as friend or foe (Stockman, 1948). In the 1950 s 1960 s scientists did research on how Radio Frequency could be used to distinguish objects remotely. Companies soon began to create anti theft systems that used Radio Frequency to determine if something had been paid for or not. This technology is still used today in stores all around the world. As you enter or leave a store you walk through two gay columns on either side of the door, these are used as the transmitter and in every item in the store there is a chip. If the chip is not deactivated as the consumer checks out, then it will send a signal to the transmitter in the gray columns and the transmitter will in turn sound an alarm. This alerts the store that something has either been stolen or it was not fully scanned (Roberti, The History of RFID Technology ). On January 23, 1973 Mario W. Cardullo received the first U.S. patent for an active RFID tag rewriteable memory. In the same year, a California entrepreneur named Charles Walton, received a patent for a passive transponder used to unlock a door without a key (Roberti, The History of RFID Technology ). • 19. Essay on Drugs and Rock and Roll Drugs and Rock and Roll Beginning with the late 1960 s counterculture in San Francisco, music and drugs will forever be inter linked. Hippie bands such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, and Phish are associated with marijuana, mushrooms, and LSD. Modern electronic rave , or club music is associated with MDMA or Ecstasy. When one thinks of rock and roll, sex and drugs immediately come to mind. While the use of drugs is not essential for the creation or performance of all new music, it was certainly in important factor for the counterculture music of the late 1960 s. Psychedelics, and drugs in general became such an important part of life during the 60 s that it s influence was inescapable. Nowhere can this fact be seen more clearly than in the music of the time. The most obvious influence drugs had on music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds , obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug inspired, as Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from Aldous Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of drug use. Even the music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of the music by the Doors. Their song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in the song was probably created with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard while on drugs. This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much more clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of their music is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs. Hearing one of their 30 minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that is the experience that they intended the audience to have. While drugs were very much connected to the music of the sixties, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Members of the House of Prayer say their brand of corporal punishment is nothing more than an old fashioned spanking. State officials say the spankings administered to at least two of the children in that church crossed the line (Matrz, 2001). Corporal punishment, the DFCS manual says, is any physical punishment of a child to inflict pain as a deterrent to wrong doing. It may produce transitory pain and potential bruising. If pain and bruising are not excessive or unduly severe and result only in short term discomfort, this is not considered maltreatment (Matrz, 2001). Where the line is crossed, Liber said, is when the discipline causes injuries to the child. Once physical injury is left (on the child), it constitutes child abuse and we have to intervene, she said (Matrz, 2001). While courts continue to rule that spanking is okay, and schools are still using it as a measure of punishment in many areas of the county there are millions of Americans who protest the use of corporal punishment as a means to control or teach children lessons. For those who are against spanking they use the argument that it is assault on a child. Any form of hitting even a swat on the butt is an assault on a human being and should. Educating Rita By Willy Russell Educating Rita written in 1980 by Willy Russell, is a play that explores the way in which a working class Liverpudlian woman, Rita (Susan), follows the change from unhappiness to happiness. The story is a comedy, which revolves around the growing personal relationship between Rita, and her Open University Literature tutor, Dr. Frank Byrant. Russell often mocks many parts of society at a time when the play was set including education, social classand patriarchy. To explain, reading fills one s mind with knowledge and ideas, talking about those ideas makes one adaptable to differences in others, and writing forces one is define one s beliefs and opinions. In room 303, Bacon s three statements are practiced regularly, as students read and annotate out of the hymnals, discuss major texts in class, and write essays each week over the material. During the last semester alone the Junior Honors English class read several texts by American Authors from the ancient oral cosmogonist myths of Native Americans to the Feminist literature of the 1890 s. In the entire range of different texts read, three specific texts were the most important in room 303. The Crucible by Arthur Miller makes one reflect on one s morals as the play unfolds. The 1953 play revolves around the town of puritan Salemand the actual people and events of the famous Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in the height of the Red Scare, and his play reveals the mass hysteria and paranoia which plagued America at the time. Many of the innocent people accused in both Salem and in the 1950 s faced not only a biased court, but a questioning of morality as the choice often was oneself gets jacked or one discloses one s cohorts in the crime. ... The colonisation of Australia had a catastrophic effect on Torres islander or Aboriginal people. Behrendt, L, (2012) states that in 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip and other 1500 civilians, marines and crew arrived at Sydney. After 10 years of their arrival, Australia s indigenous population reduced by 90 percent. • 38. KN93 I am conducting biomedical research in the laboratory of cardiac physiology under the mentorship of Dr. Elizabeth Murphy. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in the US; therefore, a better understanding of the mechanisms regulating cardiomyocyte death in ischemia and reperfusion injury are important. Mitochondrial calcium plays a crucial role in the normal functioning of many processes, including the regulation of cardiac biochemical pathways and mediating ischemia reperfusion injury. The uptake of calcium into the mitochondrial matrix is regulated by the mitochondrial calcium uniporter (MCU). An endogenous enzyme, Ca2+ Calmodulin Dependent Kinase II (CaMKII) has shown to regulate cell death and have increased activity during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To test these hypotheses I am using wild type mouse embryonic fibroblast (WT MEFs) to test changes in calcium uptake with and without KN93.To test the first hypothesis I am using calcium retention capacity assay to assess the uptake of calcium on three subgroups WT only, WT and DMSO, WT and KN93. This assay is used because it effectively compares calcium uptake between the subgroups. Considering that KN93 inhibits CaMKII I expect the WT+KN93 group to take up lower amounts of calcium and thus not reach calcium retention capacity. To test the second hypothesis, I am conducting MTT and propidium iodide testing on four different subgroups (WT, WT and H202, WT+H202+KN93, and WT+H202+DMSO) to compare the levels of cell viability and death respectively. I used MTT testing to assess cell viability post exposure of H202 and I am also using propidium iodide staining to test for the measurements of cell death among the different groups. I decided to use propidium iodide staining to better test the cardioprotection of MEFs in ischemic like conditions that would better account for the confounding variable, cell growth during the incubation ... It is possible for an individual who dies or becomes totally disabled at an early age to be classified as fully insured with less than 40 quarters. To receive old age insurance benefits, covered individuals must also meet the test of retirement. To meet this test, persons under 70 cannot be earning more than an established amount through gainful employment. This limitation of earnings does not include income from sources other than gainful employment such as investments or pensions. Social security retirement benefits consist of those benefits which individuals are entitled to receive in their own behalf, called the primary insurance amount, plus supplemental benefits for eligible dependents. These benefits can be determined from a prepared table. There are also both minimum and maximum limits to the amount that individuals and their dependents can receive. The Social Security program provides benefit payments to workers who are too severely disabled to engage in gainful employment. In order to be eligible for such benefits, an individual s disability must have existed for at least 6 month and must be expected to continue for at least 12 months. Body types are knit picked along the side of what people wear. All of this is forced upon us without asking for it, eventually affecting the outlook on certain things and permanently altering emotions towards serious matters. This is something that I would not wish upon anyone, but it is actually happening to everyone. It is one of my favorite movies because of the allure and how it tried to give a different take on religion. It was one of the first of its kind to explore the concept of Stigmata and in a different light that was seen highly offensive to Catholics which is where the concept of Stigmata comes from, which is the Roman Church. To some Catholics stigmata is a sign of holiness, so in theory, there is no reason for an atheist to bare the marks of Jesus. While the movie was amazing to someone like me because I am a secular humanist and just enjoyed the movie for it being a movie, stigmata lacks a lot of true connection to how stigmata actually works in terms of how Catholics view it.... • 48. Difference Between Politics And Political Culture 1.The differences between political opinion and political culture begin with the public. Political opinion is what and how the public feel about certain policies and issues dealing with political leaders and generally how the country is running. Political culture on the other hand deals with the public s norms and values in society. The main difference between political opinion and political culture are how political culture deals with the religion, history and economy of a nation while political opinion is the way the people of nation view their nation. A major difference between the two and probably the largest distinction between them is political opinion is constantly changing with the ebb and flow of the nation s political climate while political culture tend be stagnant and rooted in the communities that first started them, being passed down generation to generation usually dealing with a foqaue or a custom or ritual that is common throughout a specific political culture. Political culture and opinion also have some similarities, political opinions tie directly into what political culture you belong too and both deal with the people s view on the politicsof government. 2. A reinsurer may also rely on a breach of the underlying insured and its failure to disclose material facts to the reinsured. In cases of non disclosure of an underlying insured, a reinsured may make an ex gratia payment and therefore, the reinsurer may argue that there is no indemnification. In each situation where reinsurance is voided, the reinsured is left in an unfavourable position, affecting the reinsured s regulatory capital and solvency position. The UK Act abolishes the avoidance as the sole remedy for a breach of the duty of good faith and provides a range of proportionate remedies that are contingent on the intention of the reinsured.
