My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years
Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years I have never been the
type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express
myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more
skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people
tend to misunderstand my point if it is written. When I sit to write, I have to think about what I
want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my
mind and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong
writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will be critiqued. The sense of failure
when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder
is disheartening for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to
be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my wonderful work of mental art. The
irony of all of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft
contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a few. I have learned a great deal from my
bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of my grammar and
proofreading of work. My Vice President is an attorney and English major with a keen ability to
find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism

Ethnic Conflicts in Nigeria
The military elites made the situation even worse by staging coups and making a mockery of
democracy in Nigeria. The military era was marked by corruption, ineptitude and confusion. It
drove Nigeria into many problems including economic problems, poverty, and ethno religious
conflicts until the 1990s. The military continued intervening because they believed the civilian
leaders were inept and indecisive.
Ethnic conflicts continued to escalate through the democratic transition in Nigeria, as various ethnic
groups demanded political restructuring. The federal structure has developed deep cracks and
demands urgent action to fix it. What is most worrisome in Nigeria is the religious dimension of
ethnic conflict and competition for power and oil wealth. The numerous ethno religious conflicts
that the northern cities of Kaduna, Kano, Jos and Zamfara have witnessed, came about from the
introduction of Muslim Sharia courts, in addition to the South s demands for autonomy. The
continuing conflict is a sign Nigeria s lack of effective mechanisms to manage ethnic conflicts.
The intense ethnic conflicts that rocked Nigeria and South Africa have pushed them to develop
constitutionally backed institutions for conflict management. In South Africa, the state has
prevented further conflicts by developing multiple democratic approaches to create a foundation for
peace and security. The new constitutioncrafted an impressive document aimed to heal the wounds
of the past and to build a

Imagery And Foreshadowing In The Sniper
People say that war brings out the worst in people or soldiers. Liam O Flaherty would agree with
this statement. Through the use of imagery and foreshadowing in the short story The Sniper O
Flaherty shows that war leads to the lack of humanity in soldiers. O Flaherty uses images of death
and conflict to signify war. The women whirled round and fell with a shriek into the gutter The
description of the woman s death provides the reader with a clear visual on how brutal and
heartless the killing was. O Flaherty later describes in his short story the dying man on the roof
crumbled up and fell forward which refers to how revolting the sight was to watch the man die. O
Flaherty describes these deaths throughout the story to signify how inhuman

The Water Seeker By Amos Kincaid
Amos Kincaid was born to Delilah Kincaid in November 1833. Jake Kincaid, a trapper and
dowser was the father of Amos, and left every couple of months to continue trapping. He would
return in the later months to visit Amos, for Delilah died giving birth and Jake wasn t prepared
to raise him. For the first majority of his life, Amos was raised by his aunt Rebecca and his uncle
Gil. Rebecca was kind hearted but couldn t bear children. Over time Rebecca taught Amos to read
and write, along with some children from the Native American tribes. This ended however when
Rebecca came down with smallpox. Which she obtained from tending to the Native American
children, who didn t want to receive the vaccination. Rebecca then begged Gil to shoot her to relieve

Pros And Cons Of Operation Desert Storm
Throughout history, The United States has been involved in many confrontations with various
types of enemies. As a military force, we try to learn from the mistakes made. We have After
Action Reviews in order to find out how we can change our plans for future battles. We change
our Field Manuals and Army Regulations in order to fit those plans. However, there are rare
instances when things work out perfectly. When the doctrine created for training and organization
match perfectly to the battles we face. Unfortunately for us, when things go so well, we think we
have the perfect plan. It isn t until future confrontations that we learn how wrong we are.
Operation Desert Storm is the perfect example of this. When we sent U.S. and coalition forces to
liberate Kuwait from Saddam Hussein s Iraqi Army and Republican Guard, we fought against an
enemy that used the same type of organization and training the Army doctrine was designed for.
The media had its hand in it too. They built up the war on such a large scale, that it created a false
image. The image that wars could be won cheaply with superior technology and organization.
Twelve years later however, the U.S. found out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the belief that the Airland Battle Concept was the new face of war was never argued. The
successes in the gulf were a testament to that belief. What the leadership and planners failed to
realize was that it was, in actuality, an anomaly. The doctrine, training and technology that was
used during the war, was used against an enemy who was not well trained and equipped. It was
designed for a significantly more powerful enemy. In addition, the Iraqi forces weren t deployed
all that well, and they were isolated from much needed supplies by airpower even prior to the
ground war. The U.S. and coalition force placed against them was massive. Short of using chemical
or biological weapons, there was no chance for them to

My Husband Essay
I have met many people so far in this life, but the person I enjoy remembering the most is my
husband Jeff. He was born and raised in Tennessee. He is six feet tall, weighs two hundred sixty
seven pounds,he has dark brown eyes, and such a nice smile. His hair is jet black with just a few
silver and white strands throughout. He is a very big and strong character of a man. And yet he
is the most gentle, kind and caring man that I have ever met. Jeff has a sexy southern drawl to
his voice. The one person who has influenced my life greatly is my husband, the first reason
being because of his positive attitude, his intelligence, and the way he expresses his love. Jeff is a

intelligence throughout everyday endeavors in life. He is not only a book smart person, but he
has more common sense than anyone I have ever met. Anytime I ask him a question about
something, he generally has the acceptable answer. Jeff has given me the courage to believe in
myself, even when I am faced with a task that I doubt I can accomplish. He has taught me no
matter what happens, to never just give up, as long as I give everything my all, I will never be
defeated. He is the most caring man that I have ever known. He is the kind of person that would
give you the shirt off of his back. He is such a loving person when it comes to his kids. He
teaches them lessons in life, which we feel there is not enough of these days. When it comes to
me, I could not ever feel more love than the love I feel from him. Jeff is so much more to me
than a husband, he is my best friend. He is one person who has influenced my life in a positive

Battery Park Research Paper
Battery Park City is a mainly residential, 92 acre community, located on the southwestern tip of
Manhattan. The community is built mostly on landfill made of soil and rock excavated during the
construction of The World Trade Center. Geographically, the area is surrounded by the Financial
District on the southeastern side, Tribeca on the northeastern side, and by the Hudson River on the
west side.
Named for its historic park, Battery Park actually did not exist 50 years ago. The park itself got
its name in 1623, when early Dutch settlers landed and placed battery cannons in order to protect
the land. In the 1800 s, the land was mostly used as an immigration center. Once Ellis Island was
established as an alternate immigration center in 1892, Battery Park lost its role. Battery Park
contained many shipping piers, which latter lost its purpose with the creation of air travel.
By the 1950 s, many private firms proposed that the area be reconstructed through landfill, which
governor Nelson Rockefeller agreed with. The plan became complicated, as Rockefeller wanted to
redevelop the land as a separate project. In 1966 Rockefeller proposed what would become Battery
Park City, and hired Wallace K. Harrison as the architect in order to create a balance of residential

The Importance Of Socialization In Ancient Roman Society
The biggest and most indicative social activity in ancient Roman society was that of gladiatorial
combat, and all of the additional components that went along with it. Roman s of all ages,
backgrounds, and social classes spent an exorbitant amount of time observing and enjoying this
brutal pastime. For many, especially historians that hold Romein high regard, it s hard to believe
that these games were such a critical and pervasive component of Roman social life. To historians
the games are scandalous, a monstrous phenomenon, a morass or hatred and sadomasochism,
(Meijer, pp. 2). The evolution of the games from their beginning in roughly 27 BC (Meijer, pp.

Although Rome was an incredibly successful and wealthy society at it s peak, it was also
plagued by extreme levels of stratification and class conflict. Everybody had their place in society
whether that was a political member of the aristocracy, a regular plebeian farmer, or even a slave.
The Roman Empire went to great lengths to maintain these class divisions. Although many saw the
Roman colosseum as a symbol of unity, even this wasn t free of class division. In the lowest row
of seats, on a raised platform (podium) 4 metres above the arena, sat most prominent Romans,
often dressed in white togas. The emperor had the best seat of all in a kind of box (pulvinar) in
the first row at the centre of one of the longer sides of the arena, (Meijer, pp. 105). Although this
class structure was understood by Roman citizens, it wasn t always abided by. The common people
and Gladiators alike did have instances of revolution and revolt. In 73 BC, Spartacus the Gladiator
led a relatively successful gladiator/slave revolt, eighty gladiators escaped. The escape plan has
been attributed to three men, Spartacus, Crixus and Oenomaus, (Meijer, pp. 31). Although they did
ultimately meet their death, this instance illustrated the dissatisfaction of some Gladiators with the
class system they found themselves in. On the other hand if we

Shooting Science Experiment
The purpose of my science fair was to figure out what angle in shooting will produce the most
amount of goals. First I chose which angle for shooting is more effective to produce the most
amount of goals in a game. I chose this because in my games I have found that sometimes we miss
the shots on goal, and I wanted to find a way to put an end to it. That s why I chose this for my
science experiment. My results were that the 45 degree angle proved to be the best angle for
shooting and 90 degree angle was the worst. I predicted that if I kick from the 45 degree angle it
would produce the most amount of goals. I proved my hypothesis with a score of 4 out of the five
goals. In my results I got 3.6 for the 90 degree angle. In the 45 degree angle I got 4 out of five.
Using the 0 degree angle I got 3.3 out of 5. On the 45 I got a 2.3 out of five. Lastly using the 90 I

Natural History Of Zebra Mussels
Natural History of Zebra Mussels
Invasive species aren t anything new in Minnesota; however, over the past 500 years, more than
4,500 species have established populations in the United States (Benson, 2015). Zebra mussels
(Dreissena polymorpha) are one of those invasive species. Named because of their zebra like
stripes, these bi valve mussels live between 4 5 years and grow to about 50 millimeters. Zebra
mussels are native to western Russia near the Black and Caspian Seas. Construction of canals aided
their spread throughout Europe between the 1700s and the 1800s (Jensen, 2009). By the 1830s,
zebra mussels had spread throughout Europe and Britain. Some researchers caution drawing too

If there is some water supplies, closed zebra mussels can survive for longer. Veligers cannot
survive drying; however, if there is a small water amount (like a puddle or pond), they can
survive making some treatment methods like lowering the reservoir levels ineffective. Zebra
mussels can survive as boats are transferred from lake to lake and even in bait buckets that
fishermen and fisherwomen use. Researchers indicate that overland dispersal could have spread
zebra mussels from one small inland lake to another which would explain why so many inner
lakes are contaminated with zebra mussels. Ballast water from a Russian commercial cargo vessel
was the main vector for spreading the zebra mussels into U.S. waterways and regulations have
been put into place regarding discharging ballast in waterways. Education has spread the
preventative methods for stopping the spread of zebra mussels and the legal implications of not
following rules are steep.
Minnesota SeaGrant (2009) offers these recommendations about protecting local waters from
spreading zebra mussels:
Aquatic plants and animals should be removed from boats, trailers and other equipment. Spray
down boats and boat trailers before leaving the water access point.
Livewells and bilge water should be emptied
Bait buckets should be dumped onto land (not into the water) and shouldn t be cross contaminated

In Dashkova s memoir, she gave credits to her large role in the plot of overthrowing Peter III;
however, Catherine disagreed. She rebutted that it was her plan of action after the death of the
Empress Elizabeth and the vision of the coup was established long ago. My initial observation
of Dashkova is her ability to be extraordinary despite her difficult upbringing. Her intelligence
was compelling to the Empress Catherine and the men that she had encountered during her
traveling. Dashkova portrayed herself as a strong, versatile woman, who s not only different
from most of the women during the time period, but can also outperform her male counterparts
in various tasks (e.g. surgery, debate, carpenting, etc.) (pg. 144). She surprised the readers at the

Essay on The Impact of NAFTA on the U.S. Textile Industry
The Impact of NAFTA on the U.S. Textile Industry
When the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect in 1994, many expressed fears
that one consequence would be large job losses in the US textile industry as companies moved
production from the United States to Mexico. Opponents of NAFTA argued passionately, but
unsuccessfully, that the treaty should not be adopted because of the negative impact it would have
on employment in the United States, particularly in industries such as textiles. A glanceat the data
four years after the passage of NAFTA suggests the critics had a point. Between 1994 and mid
1997, about 149,000 US apparel workers lost their jobs, over 15 percent of all employment in the
industry. Much of this job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the issue becomes more complicated when one takes a closer look at the data. To be
sure, there have been job losses in the US textile industry, but clothing prices in the United States
have also fallen since 1994 as textile production shifted from high cost US producers to lower
cost Mexican producers. This obviously benefits US consumers, who now have more money to
spend on other items. The cost of a typical pair of designer jeans, for example, fell from $55 in
1994 to $48 in 1997. Nor is the fall in prices simply a result of the movement of production from
the United States to Mexico.
NAFTA has also resulted in textile production being moved from Asia to Mexico. In 1980, 83
percent of all US textile imports came from Asia. By 1997, Asia accounted for 41 percent of US
textile imports as companies switched their source of textiles from Asia to Mexico. An example
of this trend is the US clothing retailer The Limited Inc., which in 1997 switched its source for
textile products from Sri Lanka to Mexico. According to a spokesman for The Limited, although
wages in Mexico are three time the $60 per month that apparel workers make in Sri Lanka, it s
cheaper and faster to move goods from Mexico to the United States than from Sri Lanka. Under
NAFTA there are no tariffs on imports from Mexico, but there is a 19 percent tariff levied on
textile imports from Sri Lanka. When all

On Friday, August 31, 2012, The Tokyo District Court ruled that Samsung s Galaxy smartphones

Argumentative Essay On Hook Up Culture
There is a lot of faux concern among conservatives about how much more promiscuous
millennials are, as opposed to previous generations and how that sexual freedom is hindering
overall growth and emotional stability. Indeed, a recent study at James Madison University
hooking up or dating: who benefits? conducted by Carolyn Bradshaw and her colleagues, sparked
an outcry for how millennials no longer care for dating, and inspired numerous articles about the
death of chivalry and romance. These concerns, however, are exaggerated. Sex is sex, and as it
turns out, there are more benefits to the no strings attached culture of hookups than critics suggest.
In her most recent article in The Atlantic, Boys on the Side , Hanna Rosin wrote an insightful piece
in which she argues the merits of hook up culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The I m a broke college student statement is one that many can identify with. While millennials
are consistently labeled as commitment phobes, the truth is, this lifestyle is embraced mostly
because it s the only one many can financially afford. When one takes into account the amount
that goes towards buying an exclusive partner holiday gifts, anniversary celebrations, birthdays,
for broke college students, the overall sum is preposterous. Add the opportunity cost of spending
time with a partner instead of actually investing that time in one s job, internship, and academic

The heroism and bravery of those who took part in the D Day has been brought to the big screen

of human conflict ever seen by mankind with unmatched weapons of devastation and the senseless
slaughter of millions of lives both on and off the fields of battle. The Longest Day (1962) is a

One scene in SPR reinforces how death takes its time. One soldier had his arm blown off, then
stoops down to pick it up. Spielberg has managed to give us a clearer indication of war merely by
using the latest technology available to him.
Camera techniques are imperative to each film. By using different techniques, the director can
create various moods, or change our perception on the whole film. We would expect the techniques
in Saving Private Ryan to be more sophisticated, as it is quite a modern film. The Longest Day is
filmed and edited in a way, which uses the panning shot so it is edited quite slowly. The camera
is placed to show as much action as possible. Zanuck has used the panning and aerial shots to
illustrate a large scale action, without much personal involvement. It is more respectful as it
leaves out much dwelling on physical violence of war where in contrast, Spielberg exposes war
as it is in the sense that there is a high level of violence and death. In the Longest Day, when the
soldiers are running across the beach, the camera moves along with them. The camera also flicks

The Problem Of Teen Suicide
Teen suicide is one of the leading causes of death among teens and a significant problem in the
United States. Consequently, suicide is a tragedy not only for that person, but also for their family
and friends that are left behind (Bell). Many teens of all races are affected by this intentional, self
inflicted death. Even though the causes of suicidecan be hard to isolate, the signs can be linked to
depression, drug abuse, emotional neglect of their parents, bullying, parents divorcing, sexual and
domestic abuse.
Sadness, feelings of lack of worthiness, uninterested in activities are all signs of depression.
Depression is a mood disorder and it is one of the most common signs that lead to suicide.
Teenagers let problems take over their live. If this mental disorder is identified in the early
stages, professional guidance may solve the problem (Bell). Time is the main factor for
depression. Emotional distress is usually what the teenager feels before attempting or completing
the act. The only way their behavior will improve is through professional help. Emotional neglect
of parents can affect teens in a way that is hard to believe. Parents are busy with their lives and
sometimes forget about their children s emotional needs. Therefore, the child feels their existence
no longer matters (Bell). Divorce is another catalyst in teen suicide. Teens that are in a middle of a
divorce tend to blame themselves for their parents break up. Feelings of abandonment takes over

The Earth Is A System Response To The Climate Of The Earth
The climate of our planet is a system response to the geography, biosphere, anthropogenic activities
and occasional/cyclic geological/astronomical events.
Owing to the gigantic nature of the system, the Earth has a slow response time and manifests
differently in different parts of the world. And the spatial and temporal changes are miniscule,
making it difficult to comprehend the severity for an uniniated person, since these changes can be
easily lost in the noise of interannual variability. In this context, uninitiated include every person
who doesn t actively pursue information from peer reviewed and scientifically consistent sources.
For this reason, a clear and concise message needs to be sent to the uninitiated to make them ...

Comparison of Elenor of Aquitaine, Queen Elizabeth I, and...
Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the most influential women in the history of Europe, having
been a queen to rulers of both France and England, along with having significant political and
economic power in her own right. She served as an example to all women, during a period where
there was increasing development in the female s role in society. Eleanor was a patron of the arts,
and she was also a powerful personality, influencing the politics of the day with the help of her
sons, and maintaining a certain degree of control over the monarchy even after her marriage to
Henry had ended.

This Elizabethan Settlement lasts to this day. Only a great leader could think of something so
effective. Her idea has lasted for centuries.
Not only was Elizabeth a great leader when it came to religion but her military accomplishments
were also overwhelming. During this time, England s main concern was to limit Spain s power.
So Spain and England went to war. England fought against the Spanish Armada. Sir Francis Drake
led the English Fleet to a great victory. When the fight was over, only half the Spanish Armada
returned, whereas every single English ship returned to England. This defeat was one of the
greatest ever for England. Before this, Elizabeth had kept England out of war for 27 years. For more
than three centurys, Englands ships ruled the water. After the war, Elizabeth made a friendship with
Spain. Elizabeth also made many treaties with surrounding countries. England became the foremost
power in Europe. Even Englands enemies loved Elizabeth. This woman changed the balance of
power in Europe during her reign.
Elizabeth proved to be a successful and a well accomplished leader who advanced her country
socially, militarily, religiously and economically. She thought of herself as Mother of England and
she most certainly proved this to be true. No English woman ruler accomplished as much as
Elizabeth did. Elizabeth was one of the most able rulers to ever govern England. Because of her,
the way woman rulers were thought of changed forever.

The Mystery Of Capital Hernando De Soto
Is land registration sufficient to create wealth in the society?
In this essay, I will try to find out if the registration of land rights is sufficient to create wealth in
the society, by emphasising if land registration is instrumental in enhancing smallholders access to
credit thereby enabling economic growth. The basis for my essay will be The mystery of capital
by Hernando De Soto.
In The mystery of capital Hernando De Soto argues that the underlying reason that capitalisation
fails in many countries is the lack of a formalized property system. Because of this, property is
considered dead capital , and its ability to produce value beyond its natural state is inaccessible

Where is the credit?
That formal title enables access to credit and therefor increases economic productivity is one of De
Soto s core arguments for formalization. By contrast, empirical studies in sub Saharan African
have failed to establish the link between title and access to credit for smallholder s farmers.
Thereby determining that poor people with title are no more likely to obtain loans from commercial

Labour Turnover
PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
The way trade and commerce is conducted nowadays has evolved. Everything involving the
operations of the organisation demands a more expeditious means of addressing issues and
changes in the external environment. Though this apparently would drive weak companies into the
verge of exiting the market, the good ones find a way for this intense demand for constant
improvement to their advantage. There are some who find a way to make these incessant demands
for change trigger the developmental needs of the company. This is especially true in the case of
the hospitality industry. In this industry, the focus is more on the service rendered to the public;

Calpurnia Character Analysis Calpurnia, or Cal , was the Finch s African American housekeeper

she has experienced great racial injustices. Throughout the novel, we see significant and noticeable
changes in the main characters, but scarce development in CalpurniaВґs character. Before you

racial injustices throughout the book, give the thesis ample thought. Scout is the narrator of the

Around this time in the book, classmates and neighbors started talking about Atticus defending
Tom Robinson. Cal is mellifluous and gentle towards Jem in some instances. For example, after
Jem wrecks Mrs. Dubose s camellia flowers, and the kids were skulking, Calpurnia understood
that Jem was distressed, and gave him a hot biscuit and butter. One may argue this is the
beginning of a change in Calpurnia, but we may look at it as Cal just being a mom. One can
refute the argument of change that Scout is just beginning to see the good side of her and why
Cal does what she does. She has already gone through the phases with her own children, and know
how it is herself growing up. Jem is starting to grow up in the middle of the novel. This is evident
by Scout s overwhelming frustration with Jem in the quote, His maddening superiority was
unbearable these days. He didn t want to do anything but read and go off by himself. (Lee 184)
Calpurnia, being the experienced mother/caregiver she is, had seen that, and started giving Jem his
space, and started calling him Mister Jem . Scout realizes Calpurnia is not as awful as she once
thought. Scout realizes Calpurnia can be nice when given the chance. During Tom Robinson s trial,
Scout starts to understand the entirety of racial injustice. When Scout encounters the lynch mob

Tariq Tanveer Mudh Student ID 1000020230 Assumption 1 The performance of new industry
entrants can be effected by their pre entry experience. Evidence The author has provided the
evidence in the form of Ganco and Agarwal, 2009 to support this assumption. It is essential for
every new firm to have particular experience in specific field which help them to survive and
compete with other rivalry in the market. Challenge I agree with above mentioned assertion by
the author. Prior knowledge and experience of any specific field is very important to determine
the performance of any organization. New entrants who carry prior experience having a greater
chance to survive in the market. Also, it helps to differentiate one from another and help to

technological and production change (Shane, 2013). Assumption 2 Potential consumers trust on an
organisation s brand as an indicator of its product quality. Evidence To support this assertion
author has given the evidence of Erdem and Swait, 2006. Challenge I agree with the author as
every consumer have their own perception about brand because it give a feel to the customers
about the quality it provide in the term of the services and products. Now a days, customers are

The Emancipation Proclamation speech was actually intended for most of the people that would

Antislavery Movement or what some people call the Abolitionist Movement, during the 1860 s. The
main leaders of the abolitionist movement were Abraham Lincolnand Fredrick Douglas. The point
of Lincoln writing the speech about emancipating the slaves was to free the slaves and win the civil

Lincoln had many purposes of writing the speech about the emancipation of the slaves.
Lincoln most likely had many reasons to write this speech, but there was one main reason that
stood out the most to Veronica Majerol. Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to
transform the nature of the Civil War such as, helping the Union secure victory in the Civil Car.
In addition, it had freed the slaves in all of the confederate states but not in the Union states
because he did not want to lose his support in the northern states. If Lincoln would have freed the
slaves in the entire United States of America he would have lost all of his supporters in the north
that had slaves. In addition he would have lost the civil war because of his lack of troops. It
authorized the enlistment of free blocks for armed service, free slaves from farms (Majerol).
Therefore, Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation because he wanted the support of the
blacks so that they could join and help them win the Civil War. Lincoln signed the proclamation
because he knew that the blacks would make up most of the soldiers in the civil war. ...blacks made

Corruption Within Aggressive Goals Of Macbeth By William...
Corruption within Aggressive Goals Everybody has ambitions; some will create or find ways to
achieve their goals. Most will be legitimate in achieving their own goals that require little
ambition, but people who achieve aggressive goals will be achieved with dishonesty, or the will
to achieve it without caring what happens to anyone along the way. People like this include one
who wants to be a king of some sort, a kingpin or even the ability to survive. People who achieve
aggressive goals tend to disconnect themselves from their own sense of morality. In the book

He goes slightly insane because he hallucinated a dagger before killing Duncan, and because he
had just killed The King. At this point in the story, he is no longer morally aware of himself and
acts without second thought; he ends up killing anyone who he thinks may suspect him for the
murder. He suspects Banquo of knowing his actions and kills him, but when Macbeth holds a
banquet to celebrate him being king, he sees Banquo s ghost, and becomes absolutely mental. He
is no longer morally aware of himself because he wouldn t have killed Duncan to become king, or
kill Banquo just because he suspected him of knowing his crimes if he was truly aware of his
actions. The three witches and Lady Macbeth played a key role into influencing Macbeth to
achieve his goal of being king, through illegitimate actions. The ambitions of achieving a goal
like becoming king can sometimes turn into a primary thought instead of keeping yourself
morally aware. Another type of king, a Kingpin is also an aggressive goal that will disconnect
you from your morals. An example of this of this Kingpin, is Tony Montana played by Al Pacino,
from the movie Scarface, directed by Brian De Palma. In this movie, Tony is a political prisoner

Women are objectified to a certain extent yet also essential to the inner workings of society. This

While at the same time as exemplifying masculinity through chivalry this line also begins the

The Changing Choice In The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini
Have you ever made a choice that has changed your life forever whether it was in a good or bad
way? Well one choice you make can change someone s life forever whether it s in a good way or
bad way. Here in America we mostly see one choice change our lives for the better like being in a
relationship, taking a job oppurtunity, going to college to get a career, all of these things change
our lives for the better. In afghanistan a lot of their choices change their lives for the worst such as
deciding not to follow their dress code, bullying others because of what they are, not following the
Taliban s rules that they have to follow or they would get hurt. Khaled Hosseinis, The Kite Runner,
teaches the reader that one choice can change your life forever through Amir letting Hassan get

In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini the main character Amir makes a choice that changes
his life forever, which was to let Hassan get bullied and hurt by Assef. It was after the kite

eventually raped him because he was being rude to Assef and Amir just stood there and ran away.

Scientists from Germany were making huge progress on the topic of nuclear fission. Fortunately,
many of these scientists escaped the authoritarian Germany. These refugees, including Albert
Einstein warned the United States about the German s nuclear weapons capability. Consequently,
the United States created the Manhattan Project in 1942 under fears of a nuclear attack by the
Germans.
The Manhattan Project was a secret military project created to produce the first US nuclear weapon.
However, the United States soon learned that the Germans were nowhere near the full formation
of a nuclear weapon. Now, their attentions focused to the Pacific front where they were in a
costly war with the Japanese. American casualties were mounting into huge numbers, and
Japanese soldiers refused to surrender. The United States knew they risked over a million
casualties if they chose to invade Japan. Instead, they chose to launch two nuclear bombs on the
Japanese towns of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. This would lead to a new nuclear age in which the
world would be in fear of being bombarded by a nuclear weapon. Till this day the grave effects of
these first two weapons keep the world s aim to curb the use of these weapons.

The Basic Characteristics Of Humanism During The Renaissance
Some of the basic characteristics of Humanism especially during the beginning were that it mostly
consisted and was centralized around Italy. The reading mentions that something that made Italy
different from Europe was that their members were part of the clergy. Being part of the clergy
defiantly have them an advantage in which they had some governmental and educational
experience. Something else that the reading mentions is that humanism meant rhetoric and
literature bases. In my opinion, this was really important because it focuses more attention on the
importance of education, history, and literature. This was just a starting point of what education
and the importance of it would eventually become. The beginning of humanism also bega the
practicing of history, one in which people actually wrote in means of history actually writing for it.
Humanitism increased in popularity and therefore inspired others to learn and do the same. Italians
viewed this situation as a preparation for the public life. With this, not only people benefit but the
whole society as a whole were benefited.
The classical value overall during the Renaissance was very impacting. I believe this because not
only did the Humanism thinking and Humanists help somehow develop better ways of thinking.
This not only opened new ways, but also better ways to think, act, and even create. The development
of Humanism helped create interest in new and even some controversial ideas. Rhe reading

The United States And Canadian Magazine Dispute
The United States and Canadian magazine dispute was a reaction to the U.S. company Time
Warner s circumvention of Canada s outdated trade laws. In 1965, Canadian tariff code 9958 was
created to prohibit the physical importation of foreign split run periodicals and magazines
(Thomas, 1998). As satellite technology was introduced into the world of publication, in 1993, the
U.S. company Time Warner was able to send the contents electronically via satellite across the
border to a Canadian printer. Time Warner began printing split run Canadian Sports Illustrated
issues. While the electronic border crossing was against the spirit of the 9958 Canadian tariffcode,
the wording did not prohibit the new technology. Instead of amending tariff code 9958, the
Canadian government, in 1995, used Bill C 103 to set an 80% tax on split run advertisements;
thereby, ending split run publications (Thomas, 1998). The Canadian government was primarily
focused on protecting its small market domestic publications. The 80% tax from Bill C 103 was not
intended to create revenue; instead, it was an extreme preventative measure to prevent the
proliferation of foreign publications. The Canadian government was also reacting to the sneaky
methods used by Time Warner to print split run magazines in Canadavia satellite communication
and circumvent the spirit of the tariff codes that govern imports. Had Time Warner approached
Canada with information about trends in communication, perhaps the World Trade

The violence that he creates with fight club is libertarian in a sense that it is out of the way,
between two consenting adults, but also a throwback to ritual combat. One man runs as a `chief
figure who announces and enforces the rules fight club. During one scene, Jack takes note of this
and compares the chanting of the crowd to a Pentecostal service, the crowd speaking in tongues.
With the condemnation of many of society s more violent activities, i.e., boxing, action films, et
cetera, fight club s slippery slope argument that men want violence in their lives seems to make
sense. Something IS missing in our lives, something that has always been there but is disappearing
as the decline of western civilization continues. Tyler addresses this problem on the public bus,
pointing out a Calvin Klein ad and asking if that is what a man is. Should we buy what Madison
Avenue tells us what to be?

emasculation of the male is placed on capitalism.

Jack Johnsons Relationship
As the boats came in, the men were all shivering at the result of fear, except for the rare few who
were willing to die for their country. Jack Johnsons was one of the most patriotic people on the
boats, his almost opposite Benjamin Patrick , who is a cowardice man and not brave what so
ever. Jack dislikes most people who do not wish to serve their country in Gallipoli. Jack Johnson
and Benjamin Patrick were on the first boats to enter the beaches, before they were noticed by
the Turkish Soldiers. Jack and Ben were just some of the people who had helped build the
trenches. Once they had settled down Benjamin met someone by the name of Toby and started a
conversation about how horrible it is there and how Ben is coming with an idea to get himself

also being charged with treason if anyone were to learn about your actions. After this, Ben had
tried to change the subject, Have you heard? General Birdwood is stealing extra rations once
Toby had realised what he was trying to do, he had just walked away and ignored Ben. Benjamin
later started to brainstorm on how he would be able to be discharged on a piece of worn out
paper, although didn t put his name on it. Jack had later found the plans and suspected one of the

Toby had then replied, I don t know what you re talking about Jack, remind me , I found your

Essay about Women s Rights in the United States
Even as far back as the United States independence, women did not possess any civil rights.
According to Janda, this view is also known as protectionism, the notion that women mush be
sheltered from life s harsh realities. Protectionism carried on throughout the general populations
view for many decades until the 1920 s when the women s movement started. Women finally
received the right to vote in the Nineteenth Amendment. The traditional views of protectionism,
however, remained in people s minds until the 1970 s (Janda et al, 2000: 538 539). Around this
time, women started to take on other roles outside the typical traditional role of housewife. Women

To see what other factors play a role in individual s beliefs is important for a political figure to take
in consideration when proposing bills or campaigning for office in order to respond and appeal to
their voters.
Method and Theory
The method of research used to fully understand a society s views on working mothers is simply
designed. An analysis of the 1990 91 World Values Survey is possible through the SPSS program.
In Citizen Politics, the World Values Surveys are a series of representative national surveys
designed to provide an empirical base for the study of social and cultural change among the publics
of societies throughout the world (Dalton, 1996: 289). The nations surveyed are the United States,
Great Britain, West Germany, France, and East Germany. In order to examine the dilemma of these
beliefs, specific variables are chosen and run through the program using the results of the surveys.
First, variables referring to women job independence and women and their children were analyzed
across nation to understand what nations views on women workers. Then a cross tabulation of
the variable KID.JOB (referring to the statement if a preschool child is affected by a working
mother) across nation is analyzed. Then other cross tabulations of KID.JOB to religiosity (PIOUS)
and age (AGE) across nation were run through SPSS to prove that these are factors in individuals
beliefs toward this issue. These variables used together are

Dessau Bauhaus Vs Laurenian Library
In the Dessau Bauhaus by Walter Gropius, the central element is removed, emphasizing the void
left and the bridge running through it to connect the remaining parts. In the Laurentian Library by
Michelangelo, the building plan is void of complexity, consisting of one main, large rectangle, and
the square shaped entry. The plan for the Bauhaushas a kinetic quality, while the plan for the
Laurentian Library remains stoic. While the Laurentian Library showcases elaborate details, the
Bauhaus does not rely on intricate details. but rather, it takes on a more modern approach. Both
buildings have mannerist tendencies. although the Bauhaus shows these tendencies conceptually.

The Bauhaus has a facade of windows that
represent the transparency of the design, the modern aspects of the open design, and indicate the
honesty of the building and its materials (Sveiven). The building rejects superfluous aesthetic
designs that cloak the building with ambiguity. The result is a very straightforward and honest
presentation.
The plan of the Bauhaus resembles a pinwheel like configuration, three L geometries connected at
the center by the void with the spanning bridge. The arrangement is reminiscent of an airplane
propeller. indicating a movement of the parts and the modern technologies from uhich this structure
was built (Sveiven). By contrast. the plan of the Laurentian Library includes a long rectangle that a
square is placed on the end of. The plan is very simply divided into the entry and the library itself.
The plan is the epitome of stability and concentration. It s complexity and importance does not stem
from the geometry of the building, but rather. Michelangelo s use of mannerism. While the plan

Factors for Academic Success
What is academic success dependent on? This has been the question for many psychological
studies. To answer this question qualitative research needs to be done to investigate what
hinders or promotes academic success. This essay will investigate these factors by way of
interviews, while framing them in the context of current research. It will then be demonstrated
how the Job Demands Resource model can be used to inform such a study. First though it will be
shown why it is of the utmost importance to identify and understand these factors, in essence
why such research should be conducted. I Reasons for the research Education is the forefront to
any countries economic standing and through education there is a ripple effect that moves
through the economy and society. It was found that in a developing country an increase of 1% in
enrolment lead to a 0.1% increase in per capita GDP (Ogunade, 2011). Therefore understanding
what hinders and aids students in their studies could potentially lead to a better economic status
(Ogunade, 2011). There are 23 public universities in South Africa and the major problem facing
them is high drop out rates and low retention (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014). It has
been observed that in 2007 20% of students dropped out after the first year of studies and an
additional 30% after the second year, which indicates only 50% of students finished there degree
and only 15% on the allotted time (Maphosa, Sikhwari, Ndebele, Mashela, 2014).

Christian Antisemitism And Persecution Of Christians
Anti semitic is a term that commonly refers to those people that discriminate against Jews or are
hostile and prejudice towards them (www.dictionary.com). Throughout history, there have been
many reasons given in an attempt to describe why there has been such a long standing persecution
of Jewish people. There are many people that dislike Jewish people because they blame them for the
death of Jesus Christ. `Despite major improvements in theology and institutional responses to the
Holocaust, Christian antisemitismcontinues to be a persistent and pervasive problem`
(www.quora.com). According to my internet source, many people dislike Jewsbecause of the
opinion that they are too wealthy and powerful (Quora.com). There are

Persuasive Essay On Sex Trafficking
Although millions of innocent females fall victim to the despicable realm of sex trafficking, only a
negligible percentage is recovered. Sex trafficking occurs when individuals are forced to perform
sexual acts without reimbursement; traffickers beat, torture, and emotionally abuse their victims
into obedience. Traffickers use cunning methods to both hide their operations and force their
victims into a life of submission. In a perfect world, human traffickingwould be easily obliterated.
However, sexual exploitation of individuals being trafficked throughout the world cannot be
eradicated due to governmental corruption and cunning trafficking methods.
In the United States, the Federal Bureau of Investigation s (FBI) attempts to stop sex trafficking
have proven inadequate. In fact, the FBI states, Over the past decade, the FBI s human trafficking
investigations have been responsible for the arrest of more than 2,000 traffickers and the recovery
of numerous victims ( Human Trafficking ). While this data appears to show the magnitude of the
FBI s efforts to rescue enslaved females, they reveal the difficulty of catching traffickers. According
to this statistic, the government has only had the capacity to prosecute an average of two hundred
traffickers per year, a very low number compared to the possible number of traffickers. If the United
States government could stop trafficking, this number would be significantly higher. Also, the FBI
asserts the most effective way to

Satire Modest Proposal Essay
Effectively ushering change in society or pointing out faults that have existed and gone unnoticed
can be a daunting task for any social commentator. Often, blandly protesting grievances or concerns
can fall upon deaf ears and change can be slow or non existent. However some social
commentators, such as Jonathan Swiftin his pamphlet A Modest Proposal, use clever, targeted, and
ironic criticism to bring the social state of Ireland to the attention of indolent aristocrats. He
accomplishes such criticism through satire, specifically Juvenanlian satire. Swift s A Modest
Proposal stands as a perfect example of the type of satire that plays upon the audience s emotion by
creating anger concerning the indifference of the voice created. He... Show more content on

Contrastingly, such morally unconventional solutions would not exist in a calmer, straight
forward Horatian satire. Swift s development of the absurd proposal for eating young children so
that the poorer tenants will have something valuable or that there would be constant customers
for infants flesh is enhanced by numerous examples of biting irony. Such irony exists even in the
title: A Modest Proposal. Upon reading the text, the audience can agree that Swift s proposal is
far from modest and such irony servers to enrage and puzzle the readers to the point that they
question why he would be using such shifting, ironic diction. Swift s use of absurd logic to his
proposal supplements the effectiveness of verbal irony, since no one would believe that children
should be eaten to improve in the art of making good bacon . The aforementioned examples
illustrate Swift s craftiness and the use irony to almost mock the audience. In true Juveliean
fashion, such techniques are designed to arouse the reader to anger and suspicion of what is trying
to be said. A satire based on the Horatian type wouldn t use such blatantly offensive irony. Rather,
the tone of voice would be gentler, more good humored and sympathetic ( Horatian Satire ). In
contrast to such an authorial voice, Swift, through

The Black Of Black And 70s
Movies are more than a form of entrainment. They are pieces of art that express social and
political problems within the culture. The Black male character and culture has not always
been a predominant figure in films like they are today. The display of the African American
culture in film has progressed through the years. It has progressed by the change of racism
displayed on screen, the character roles, and the emergence black figures and society in motion
pictures. (How racism is depicted in the films Black face we would see it again) With movies
such as Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, Shaft, Do The Right Thing, and Madea s Family
Reunion. People see the transformation of black cinema throughout the years. Films of the 60s,
70s, and 80s have significant differences from contemporary productions as the standards of
culture shift in the decades. Before the audience can note the rise of black figures and standards
in film. They must have recognition of the history of black cinema before its transition into the
mainstream. Displays of black character roles and black culture from earlier films like Birth of a
Nation (1915) and Gone with the Wild (1939) have a different representation on the view of
black society and how racism was addressed in those times. In these earlier films blacks were not
given main roles in cinema. Blacks Americans were typically given minimal roles and true to race
roles such as servants, slaves, butlers and etc. African Americans did not have a

Siam in the First World War
At the outbreak of the war in August of 1914, which merely 4 years after ascending to the
Throne in 1910, the King Vajiravudh monitoring and was well informed about development of
the war in Europe. Prior to Siam joined the war the king Vajiravudh observed that Siam was
geographically so remote from the war and he was rightly in thinking that it was wise for Siam
to maintain strict and impartial neutrality. The reason behind this decision was due to the fact
that there were danger signs of the threats to Siamese independence especially during the early
years of the reign. As can be see from the last decade of nineteenth century Siam was the only
independent country in the South East Asia that was surrounded by British and French colonies
from east to west. The incident at Pak Nam , in 1893, in which French brought the gun boats
from their colonies in Indo China to the Mae Nam and trained the guns on the King s Palace in
Bangkok, were still fresh in the mine of people in Siam. As a result of this conflicted Siam had to
cede to France the right bank of Mae Khong River which included Loung Pra Bang followed by
the whole of Cambodiawhich included Phra Vuhear temple in 1907 after signed Entente Cordiale
agreement of 1907. As well as these Siam also ceded Kedah, Kelanton, Trangkanu and Perlis to
Britain in 1909. Until about 1910s Germany became a new competitor on colonial affairs, and
show increased influence in Siam. According to Directory of Bangkok and Siam published in

  • 2. My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people tend to misunderstand my point if it is written. When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my mind and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will be critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my wonderful work of mental art. The irony of all of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a few. I have learned a great deal from my bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of my grammar and proofreading of work. My Vice President is an attorney and English major with a keen ability to find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ethnic Conflicts in Nigeria The military elites made the situation even worse by staging coups and making a mockery of democracy in Nigeria. The military era was marked by corruption, ineptitude and confusion. It drove Nigeria into many problems including economic problems, poverty, and ethno religious conflicts until the 1990s. The military continued intervening because they believed the civilian leaders were inept and indecisive. Ethnic conflicts continued to escalate through the democratic transition in Nigeria, as various ethnic groups demanded political restructuring. The federal structure has developed deep cracks and demands urgent action to fix it. What is most worrisome in Nigeria is the religious dimension of ethnic conflict and competition for power and oil wealth. The numerous ethno religious conflicts that the northern cities of Kaduna, Kano, Jos and Zamfara have witnessed, came about from the introduction of Muslim Sharia courts, in addition to the South s demands for autonomy. The continuing conflict is a sign Nigeria s lack of effective mechanisms to manage ethnic conflicts. The intense ethnic conflicts that rocked Nigeria and South Africa have pushed them to develop constitutionally backed institutions for conflict management. In South Africa, the state has prevented further conflicts by developing multiple democratic approaches to create a foundation for peace and security. The new constitutioncrafted an impressive document aimed to heal the wounds of the past and to build a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the use of imagery and foreshadowing in the short story The Sniper O Flaherty shows that war leads to the lack of humanity in soldiers. O Flaherty uses images of death and conflict to signify war. The women whirled round and fell with a shriek into the gutter The description of the woman s death provides the reader with a clear visual on how brutal and heartless the killing was. As a military force, we try to learn from the mistakes made. We have After Action Reviews in order to find out how we can change our plans for future battles. We change our Field Manuals and Army Regulations in order to fit those plans. However, there are rare instances when things work out perfectly. When the doctrine created for training and organization match perfectly to the battles we face. Unfortunately for us, when things go so well, we think we have the perfect plan. It isn t until future confrontations that we learn how wrong we are. Operation Desert Storm is the perfect example of this. When we sent U.S. and coalition forces to liberate Kuwait from Saddam Hussein s Iraqi Army and Republican Guard, we fought against an enemy that used the same type of organization and training the Army doctrine was designed for. The media had its hand in it too. They built up the war on such a large scale, that it created a false image. The image that wars could be won cheaply with superior technology and organization. • 9. Battery Park Research Paper Battery Park City is a mainly residential, 92 acre community, located on the southwestern tip of Manhattan. The community is built mostly on landfill made of soil and rock excavated during the construction of The World Trade Center. Geographically, the area is surrounded by the Financial District on the southeastern side, Tribeca on the northeastern side, and by the Hudson River on the west side. Named for its historic park, Battery Park actually did not exist 50 years ago. The park itself got its name in 1623, when early Dutch settlers landed and placed battery cannons in order to protect the land. In the 1800 s, the land was mostly used as an immigration center. Once Ellis Island was established as an alternate immigration center in 1892, Battery Park lost its role. Battery Park contained many shipping piers, which latter lost its purpose with the creation of air travel. By the 1950 s, many private firms proposed that the area be reconstructed through landfill, which governor Nelson Rockefeller agreed with. The plan became complicated, as Rockefeller wanted to redevelop the land as a separate project. In 1966 Rockefeller proposed what would become Battery Park City, and hired Wallace K. The Importance Of Socialization In Ancient Roman Society The biggest and most indicative social activity in ancient Roman society was that of gladiatorial combat, and all of the additional components that went along with it. Roman s of all ages, backgrounds, and social classes spent an exorbitant amount of time observing and enjoying this brutal pastime. For many, especially historians that hold Romein high regard, it s hard to believe that these games were such a critical and pervasive component of Roman social life. To historians the games are scandalous, a monstrous phenomenon, a morass or hatred and sadomasochism, (Meijer, pp. 2). Everybody had their place in society whether that was a political member of the aristocracy, a regular plebeian farmer, or even a slave. The Roman Empire went to great lengths to maintain these class divisions. Although many saw the Roman colosseum as a symbol of unity, even this wasn t free of class division. In the lowest row of seats, on a raised platform (podium) 4 metres above the arena, sat most prominent Romans, often dressed in white togas. The emperor had the best seat of all in a kind of box (pulvinar) in the first row at the centre of one of the longer sides of the arena, (Meijer, pp. 105). Although this class structure was understood by Roman citizens, it wasn t always abided by. The common people and Gladiators alike did have instances of revolution and revolt. In 73 BC, Spartacus the Gladiator led a relatively successful gladiator/slave revolt, eighty gladiators escaped. The escape plan has been attributed to three men, Spartacus, Crixus and Oenomaus, (Meijer, pp. 31). Zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) are one of those invasive species. Named because of their zebra like stripes, these bi valve mussels live between 4 5 years and grow to about 50 millimeters. Zebra mussels are native to western Russia near the Black and Caspian Seas. Construction of canals aided their spread throughout Europe between the 1700s and the 1800s (Jensen, 2009). Veligers cannot survive drying; however, if there is a small water amount (like a puddle or pond), they can survive making some treatment methods like lowering the reservoir levels ineffective. Zebra mussels can survive as boats are transferred from lake to lake and even in bait buckets that fishermen and fisherwomen use. Researchers indicate that overland dispersal could have spread zebra mussels from one small inland lake to another which would explain why so many inner lakes are contaminated with zebra mussels. Ballast water from a Russian commercial cargo vessel was the main vector for spreading the zebra mussels into U.S. waterways and regulations have been put into place regarding discharging ballast in waterways. Education has spread the preventative methods for stopping the spread of zebra mussels and the legal implications of not following rules are steep. Minnesota SeaGrant (2009) offers these recommendations about protecting local waters from spreading zebra mussels: Aquatic plants and animals should be removed from boats, trailers and other equipment. Her intelligence was compelling to the Empress Catherine and the men that she had encountered during her traveling. Dashkova portrayed herself as a strong, versatile woman, who s not only different from most of the women during the time period, but can also outperform her male counterparts in various tasks (e.g. surgery, debate, carpenting, etc.) (pg. 144). Essay on The Impact of NAFTA on the U.S. Textile Industry The Impact of NAFTA on the U.S. Textile Industry When the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect in 1994, many expressed fears that one consequence would be large job losses in the US textile industry as companies moved production from the United States to Mexico. Opponents of NAFTA argued passionately, but unsuccessfully, that the treaty should not be adopted because of the negative impact it would have on employment in the United States, particularly in industries such as textiles. A glanceat the data four years after the passage of NAFTA suggests the critics had a point. However, the issue becomes more complicated when one takes a closer look at the data. To be sure, there have been job losses in the US textile industry, but clothing prices in the United States have also fallen since 1994 as textile production shifted from high cost US producers to lower cost Mexican producers. This obviously benefits US consumers, who now have more money to spend on other items. The cost of a typical pair of designer jeans, for example, fell from $55 in 1994 to $48 in 1997. Nor is the fall in prices simply a result of the movement of production from the United States to Mexico. NAFTA has also resulted in textile production being moved from Asia to Mexico. In 1980, 83 percent of all US textile imports came from Asia. By 1997, Asia accounted for 41 percent of US textile imports as companies switched their source of textiles from Asia to Mexico. An example of this trend is the US clothing retailer The Limited Inc., which in 1997 switched its source for textile products from Sri Lanka to Mexico. According to a spokesman for The Limited, although wages in Mexico are three time the $60 per month that apparel workers make in Sri Lanka, it s cheaper and faster to move goods from Mexico to the United States than from Sri Lanka. Indeed, a recent study at James Madison University hooking up or dating: who benefits? conducted by Carolyn Bradshaw and her colleagues, sparked an outcry for how millennials no longer care for dating, and inspired numerous articles about the death of chivalry and romance. These concerns, however, are exaggerated. Sex is sex, and as it turns out, there are more benefits to the no strings attached culture of hookups than critics suggest. In this essay, I will try to find out if the registration of land rights is sufficient to create wealth in the society, by emphasising if land registration is instrumental in enhancing smallholders access to credit thereby enabling economic growth. In 1965, Canadian tariff code 9958 was created to prohibit the physical importation of foreign split run periodicals and magazines (Thomas, 1998). As satellite technology was introduced into the world of publication, in 1993, the U.S. company Time Warner was able to send the contents electronically via satellite across the border to a Canadian printer. Time Warner began printing split run Canadian Sports Illustrated issues. While the electronic border crossing was against the spirit of the 9958 Canadian tariffcode, the wording did not prohibit the new technology. Instead of amending tariff code 9958, the Canadian government, in 1995, used Bill C 103 to set an 80% tax on split run advertisements; thereby, ending split run publications (Thomas, 1998). The Canadian government was primarily focused on protecting its small market domestic publications. The 80% tax from Bill C 103 was not intended to create revenue; instead, it was an extreme preventative measure to prevent the proliferation of foreign publications. The Bauhaus has a facade of windows that represent the transparency of the design, the modern aspects of the open design, and indicate the honesty of the building and its materials (Sveiven). The building rejects superfluous aesthetic designs that cloak the building with ambiguity. The result is a very straightforward and honest presentation. The plan of the Bauhaus resembles a pinwheel like configuration, three L geometries connected at the center by the void with the spanning bridge. The arrangement is reminiscent of an airplane propeller. indicating a movement of the parts and the modern technologies from uhich this structure was built (Sveiven). By contrast. the plan of the Laurentian Library includes a long rectangle that a square is placed on the end of. The plan is very simply divided into the entry and the library itself. The plan is the epitome of stability and concentration. It s complexity and importance does not stem from the geometry of the building, but rather. Michelangelo s use of mannerism. Swift s development of the absurd proposal for eating young children so that the poorer tenants will have something valuable or that there would be constant customers for infants flesh is enhanced by numerous examples of biting irony. Such irony exists even in the title: A Modest Proposal. Upon reading the text, the audience can agree that Swift s proposal is far from modest and such irony servers to enrage and puzzle the readers to the point that they question why he would be using such shifting, ironic diction. Swift s use of absurd logic to his proposal supplements the effectiveness of verbal irony, since no one would believe that children should be eaten to improve in the art of making good bacon . The aforementioned examples illustrate Swift s craftiness and the use irony to almost mock the audience.
