Misconceptions About Mars
I don t think men are from Mars. I think they re from Whoville, where every year they align with
the Grinch and band together to ruin Christmas. Each holiday, after thoughtfully deciding on,
shopping for, and wrapping the perfect presents for my boyfriend, I can t wait to see what he
picked out for me. I breathlessly anticipate tearing open the perfect romantic/sentimental gift, and
every year I m sorely disappointed.
I m not alone.
Do they do it on purpose? Of course not. It s just that men hate the pressure of holiday shopping
and would cut off their right arm to avoid it.
It shows.
We women, on the other hand, have high expectations because we put lots of thought into gift
giving. Throughout the year, we pick up on the little hints he ... Show more content on

However, this year we have decided to give each other ideas (not necessarily a list) so it should
be much easier. Of course there will be a few surprises thrown in. Over the years though, it has
been a stressful time. I think that whole Mars Venus comes into play. She wants cleaning to be
easier... a new Shop Vac oughta help. Something we can enjoy together...doesn t a plasma TV fit the
bill?
Jim: I am not crazy about shopping generally, but I don t really mind holiday shopping. I figure
she puts up with my crap all year long, so it s my chance to do something nice and let her know I
appreciate her. Choosing something she ll really like is tough sometimes, and the fact that I m a
world class procrastinator doesn t help things. I try to have some fairly definite ideas about what to
get, and then hit the mall early (like 8:00 a.m., usually the Saturday before Christmas) before the
crowds arrive.
Also from Jim: Cautionary tale about a guy I used to work with: He waited until Christmas Eve to

Letter To Manby Case Study
Dear Joel Manby
I was shocked by the way Seaworld cover the true of the dead of Dawn Brancheau recently
documented.I am frustrated by the way Seaworld is exposing people to danger of death or injury
and keeping Blackfish in captivity without the freedom they should have living with their families
in the ocean.
Keeping whales in captivity is so cruel that the whales became erratic and could kill people. Ms
Brancheau s death demostrates that close contact with killer whales is a hazard likely to cause
death or serious injury additionally osha found that Seaworld had violated the general duty of
clause of occupational safety and healthy exposing trainers to recognized hazards when they are
working in close contact with killer whales.

The Theory Of Substance Dependention
This essay consists of information concerning substance dependence. It outlines what substance
dependence is all about, which includes its symptoms, a theory to explain the phenomena and the
South African perspective of the disorder. Substance Dependence is a behavioral and
physiological phenomenon which happens after a person has been practicing substance use over a
long period of time and the individual does this repeatedly (Austin, Botha, Du Plessis, Du Plessis,
Jordaan, Lake, Moletsane, Nel, Pillay, Ure, Visser, Von Krosigk, Vorster, 2013). People who use
these substances have difficulty controlling the amounts they consume and tend to use the
substance excessively; the person has a continued desire to use the substance. They tend to crave
the substance therefore causing a difficulty in controlling the use of the substance. Substance
dependence disorders are more severe forms of Substance abuse disorders and involves a
physiological dependence on the substance (Coleman, Butcher Carson,1984,Pg. 397). Substance
dependence can occur at any age but happens to be most common in adolescence and young
adulthood, leaving teenagers more prone to being affected by it (Coleman, Butcher Carson, 1984,
Pg. 419).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Substances that affect this functioning include Alcohol, heroin, marijuana and barbiturates (White
Watt, 1973) .Some of these drugs are legal while others such as heroin remain illegal. The
intoxicating effect of substances like alcohol and tobacco is so powerful as to defy rational
control. Substance dependence has a long history and in recent years has raised more of a social
problem because there is an increase in the convenient availability of such substances (White Watt,
1973, Pg.

Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce
In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year
old boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an
ongoing dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person
view, which is important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of
war; specially the Civil War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the
destruction and chaos of war destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced
to war first hand. To characterize and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as
imagery and symbolism to further his points. He really wants to drive home how this boy s
romanticism for war can be turned upside down, especially when directly affected by war.
Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into perspective by initially describing him as
a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small field and entered a forest unobserved
and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery and conquest , alluding to the
fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible and carefree attitude sets
the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. As the story progresses further, the boy ends
up falling asleep in the woods and later wakes up too an army marching forward towards battle.
The boy naively sees this as a game and joins in, only to experience the

Joseph
The story of a young brother that unleashed anger, envy, annoyance , and rivalry in his own
family. He was the eldest son of Jacob and Rachel, the product of true love. His life faced a
turning point, caused by his father s decisions which later became the reality of being abandoned
by his brothers, sold to the Ishmaelite and being raised in another culture. While It was his father s
and brother s decisions that made Joseph fulfill his destiny in Egypt , Jacobs behavior leads to
conflicts in his family. Joseph is given preference over the rest of his brothers, and he is awarded
with a tunic that makes his father s position towards the rest very clear..The beginning of parental

It would have been better for the entire family if Jacob would have never given the garment,
because everyone knew already that Joseph had the undivided attention from his father, and the
tunic was not necessary to approve that. Jacob is the one to blame for unleashing the wrath of
his sons towards Joseph. The problem was big enough and there was no need to make it bigger,
which eventually later in the story results in Joseph s exile into Egypt. Most importantly this is a
passage that interestingly shows many family problems that we are currently witnesses of, such
as parents marking their children lives through their decisions which further more have an
outcome in their children future and that parents are not always the best at their job, but they
think they are. This story is important , it shows the traveling periods of human beings , how
obstacles in life can shape a person and be rewarding in the future. It is clear that God, had a plan
for Joseph, since the beginning of the story, we do not know why, but maybe it was Joseph s
attitude overall that honored God. And he is to be truly admired by his faithfulness in the entire
story, he never gave up. His dreams were a vision of the future, and visions that became true, in the
moment he saved his family s

Essay on Constitutional Framers
The Constitutional Framers envisioned a national government that, like Plato s cave, would be at a
distance and out of sight of the everyday affairs and thoughts of ordinary Americans. They had
envisioned Washington D.C. to be a cultural mecca on par with the capitals of European nations,
both economically and socially. The reality of the Washington Community was a disaster compared
to the lofty ambitions of the founding fathers; a desolate purgatory to be endured. The socially and
economically barren capital combined Spartan living conditions with isolation. High turnover was
prevalent in both the houseand senate; a disappointment to the Federalists who had hoped for
institutional memory within congress. Instead of creating the... Show more content on

The lack of historical precedent for building a governmental center ex nihil did not apparently,
generate any misgivings about the bold enterprise (Young, p. 96). The capital was destined to be a
success; so sure of this fact, funds for public buildings were expected to be raised through private
land speculation. Reality was a colossal failure; the founders were so successful at removing
congress from the minds of Americans that few thought to invest in the land speculation. The
capital was an economic disaster, a backwater community saved only by financial intervention from
neighboring states. For it was states, not citizens, that were revealed to have a proprietary interest in
the national establishment, and it was states that came to the rescue when the entire project was
threatened with collapse (Young, p. 99). Even with external funds, the Washington community
remained a desolate swamp no one wished to inhabit. Limited buildings, commerce and trade
produced an environment of barbaric day to day living conditions for congressmen. They worked
together, daily assembled in the noisy auditoriums of the Capital, with no offices but their desks on
the floor itself. They lived together in the same lodging houses. They took their meals together
around the same boardinghouse tables. Privacy was no more to be found during leisure than at
work, not even privacy when they retired; in their lodging houses they lay two in

Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Germanic Influence on Higher Education
Before one can move forward with their education one must understand where it all started. When
researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my
research. I would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there
would be some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as
in the university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current
universities offer post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this
was not always the case before the 19th century.
The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is
one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact
of Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars
were beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies
within their schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to
advance their studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve
their knowledge through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). Of the 10,000 students
academic celebrities as Leopold von Ranke, Herman von Homholtz, Wilhem Wundt took this
opportunity to advance their knowledge through

King David Research Paper

David and Solomon: Kings of Legend Throughout the Old Testament, there are many examples of
great kings that can be found. However, two of the greatest and most blessed Kings were King
David and his son, King Solomon. Here, we will compare the lives and reigns of both kings by
reviewing their faith, their triumphs, and their downfalls.
King David was annointed by God at a young age, when he was still a shepherd boy tending to
his family s flocks. He was charged to go forth and kill the giant Goliath, despite the fact that he
was a boy that had never faced battle, and had no weapon aside from his slingshot and rocks.
Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, David was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most notable example is his affair with Bathsheba, whom he saw bathing upon the rooftops
one night. David knew that Bathsheba was marrie to Uriah, one of his military leaders. But he
nevertheless sent for her and committed adultery with her, and from this sin a child was
conceived. At first, David tried to cover his indiscretion and bade Uriah to go to his wife in the
hopes that they would lie together and the baby might be passed off as Uriah s. However, when
Uriah refused to go to his wife, David had him killed, and took Bathsheba to be his own wife. As
a result of these sins, God was greatly displeased with David, and punished him with the death of
his first son. Like his father before him, King Solomon also had troubles with women; namely that
he married too many of them. Though God granted him with wisdom beyond all other men,
Solomon fell to the sins of the flesh. According to 1 Kings 11:1, he loved many strange women,
together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians,
and Hittites. These were women from tribes whom God had expressly forbidden the Israelites
from mixing with for the purposes that they were tribes who worshipped false gods and idols, and
would surely turn the Israelites away from their faith in the One True God. Samuel had seven
hundred wives,

Kevin Reynolds Effect On Hamlet
The Southwest Florida theater production of William Shakespeare s famous play Hamlet will be

For Example, when Reynolds directed the mini television series Hatfields and McCoys, he was
able to true to the brutality of the feud between these two families. Mike Hale, a critic for The
New York Time, stated: Hatfields McCoys is a perfectly respectable piece of work, and probably
better than we could have expected for a History mini series. Mr. Costner and Mr. Paxton acquit
themselves well, and Mr. Reynolds gives the ambushes and shootouts, filmed in Romania, a
shambling, ugly realism (Hale 2012). Hale was impressed by how well Reynolds was able to show
the feel and environment of the nineteenth century Kentucky. In Hamlet Reynolds would bring the
same amount of realism as he did in the miniseries mentioned above. The Director Reynolds would
also stay true to Shakespeare s intentions by keeping the play dark, melancholy, ironic, and

Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis
This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were
no adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without
parental supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just
like the boy s original fantasies.
Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses
This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more
like animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under
Ralph s leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced
himself as the new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos
and destructive behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the
jungle, it gets worse here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal.
Mob song Beauty and the Beast
The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting
dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast.
Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled
through a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon
and Piggy both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow,
much like the novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs.
Ralph A character Sketch
One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island.
His good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys.
Although he lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with
sound judgment and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping
instincts that affect the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder.
Regardless, Ralph remains the most civilized character throughout the novel, save for Piggy. At the
end of the novel, it was somewhat tragic because Ralph finally understands that evil lives inside of
all the boys. This leaves him depressed

Theme Of Blindness In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Blindness is not limited to physical manifestation. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the figurative
blindness is immediately apparent through the narrator and his shallowness, irrational jealousy, and
egotistical personality. His dismissive behavior and ignorance towards the feelings of Robert, his
wife s blind friend, speak negatively of his character and reveals his insecurities. While the narrator
s emotional blindnessand Robert s physical blindness initially inhibits their bond, it eventually leads
the narrator to an epiphany and the beginning of a character transformation. The different forms of
blindness allow the characters to bond and grow over the course of the story.
Throughout Robert s visit, the narrator makes snide and insensitive remarks, despite his wife s
wishes. His misunderstanding of relationships and people is his visible flaw. It isn t until the narrator

He makes this clear in the opening paragraph of the story where he says I wasn t enthusiastic
about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me. My idea of blindness
came from the movies. In the movies, the blind moved slowly and never laughed. Sometimes
they were led by seeing eye dogs. A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward
to (Carver 1). The narrator dismisses Robert in the same manner a white racist may dismiss an
African American. His prejudice, or any prejudice, is preconceived based on superficial qualities
rather than actual experience or reason. It is evident the narrator can t see beyond Robert s
disability and is judging Robert because of a characteristic that makes him uncomfortable. This
unconscious placement of Robert into an atypical category prevents him from seeing Robert as an
individual. The narrator does not see Robert as a whole person, but solely as a blind man. Part of
what makes the narrator emotionally blind is this

Anorectoplasty Essay
Definitive management of male rectourethral fistula
Historically, there have been many surgical techniques to repair anorectal malformations. These
include endorectal dissection, anterior perineal approaches, and many different types of
anoplasties However, most pediatric surgeons now use the posterior sagittal approach to repair
these malformations with or without laparotomy or laparoscopy ( Levitt and Pena, 2006).
Posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) as described by pena and levitt ( Levitt and Pena, 2014):
A Foley catheter is inserted and the patient is placed in prone position with the pelvis elevated. The
incision is a posterior sagittal one, in between both buttocks, running from the middle portion of the
sacrum down to the anal dimple, which is electrically determined. The incision goes through skin,
subcutaneous tissue, parasagittal fibres, muscle complex and levator muscle. When the surgeon is

The Irish will never forgive or forget what the British policies did to their forefathers. Of the Irish
who did successfully immigrated to the United States they quickly joined an associations that
favored Ireland s independence. The famine is what fueled the Irish emigrant anger and most of
them viewed it to be the reason for leaving Irelandin the first place. John Mitchel, journalist for the

The Almighty indeed sent the potato blight but it was the English who created the famine that over
a million men, women, and children were quietly killed over a period of time. They died of hunger
in the midst of abundance which their own hands created. (Mitchel)

Marketing And Production Of Goods And Services
XYZ is a business company that deals with fast moving products hence it requires to change its
working strategies from time to time. The primary target of any business is to make a profit.
Hence, XYZ must always strive to reduce cost and maximize profit from its products and service.
As the marketing and operational overseer, it is my mandate to come up with a best possible
strategy for the company to maximize its profits and remain sustainable in the market (Kahn, 2013).
The strategies that are outlaid in this paper will mainly focus on the operations of the marketingand
production of goods and services. The paper intends to outlay the proposal for XYZ service and

Marketing is the best platform through which the company can be its potential customers to buy its

multiple discount offers from different bookshop. There was lot of book shops which were

people were coming to buy that book and they will sell it on margin prices, the prices were
competitive and the number of copies sold in millions. On the launch of this book the book
sellers gave out 40 percent discount, since the author was known and had a lot of fan following.
Even the independent book sellers were selling this book with additional services. They didn t
drop down the price for the book but instead gave a few added services to their customers. Books

The pixar movie is adorable and entertaining and adds to theories about fish s memories, a
persistent myth that fish can only remember something for 3 to 5 seconds, Dr. Kevin Warburton
has been studying fish behavior for the past 15 years at Charles Sturt University and he says that
the theory is nothing but Rubbish! . Warburton says that fish are sophisticated and that fish can
remember prey types and avoid that predator after being attacked once. They retain that memory
for months and once a fish has been caught on a hook and escape they are able to avoid hooks for
at least a year, for example about a year after the salmon is born they will follow the river to the
ocean and six years later they journey back home to respawn. If your fish at home is swimming

means that they re just bored, if I had nothing to do all day 24/7 I would go in circles to and just

In recent graphs and charts, there has been results of decreased poverty, this is great news for
Senegal! Taalibe, or street children, Used to be found all over Senegal cities until recent bands
that have been placed to where adolescents can no longer do this. You may ask, What are street
children? When a children s parents cannot afford their child and their needs (especially
education), they will send them to ВЁschoolВЁ. ВЁSome parents in Senegal and neighboring
countries who lack the money to bring up their children, send them to Islamic schools, or daaras,
in Dakar.ВЁ These schools send the children to the streets and make them beg for money. They
are also be abused, beaten, and even killed. The conditions in which they stay in are horrendous
and cause several of them to become sick. Until a ban was put into place, this continue to happen
and still does to this day. Only 12 teachers have been known of being prosecuted for doing this, and
many more are said to be still doing this to poor defenseless children. In order to have better health
among Senegal there must be better communication and watching on the citizens and the
government. The government seems to have little control over many things, like TaalibeВґs and
you can see the lack of communication between the citizens and government in Senegal.
Organizations like the, ВЁPPDHВЁ have tried to stop this completely, some have gotten rather far.
If further acts are put into place to ensure the safety of the children and their health, there will be
Less likability to have children on the streets. Organizations like the Red Cross are here to help
those parents, providing shelter for those children and better health care, but without the proper
knowledge of these organizations in rural cities there is no way of these parents of knowing.
Providing information on organizations here to help may be better the chances of having the street

Doctor Faustus, Antigone, Everyman, And Christopher Marlowe
When examining techniques, terminology, and themes present in Jacobean theatre it becomes
apparent that they had evolved from those of the ancient Greek and Medieval tradition. Precedences
set by Greek thespians in both stagecraft and dramatic writing are utilized and expanded upon in the
theatrical practices of their successors working in the centuries to follow. A comparison of theatrical
terminology and stagecraft techniques will investigate the similarities and differences of Greek,
Medieval, and Jacobean theatre. Following, the greek play Antigone by Sophocleswill be compared
to the anonymously written medieval miracle play, Everyman, and Christopher Marlowe s Doctor
Faustus, in order to explore how Greek dramatic traditions influenced dramatic writing in these play
s respective times. The Greek amphitheatres were similar in construction to modern theatres, but
had their primitive differences. Greek theatres had two main parts: the theatron and the orchestra.
The orchestra was a flat, often circular, area in front of the stage where the chorus would dance,
and the theatron, which surrounded the orchestra about в…” of the way, was where the audience
watched the performance. The part of the orchestra not surrounded by the audiences was the
skene. The skene is the stage where the lead actors would perform and it consisted of a back wall
where they would sometimes paint scenery (Simon 5). The remanence of these primitive worlds is
still evident today. Modern theatres still

Theme Of The Cherry Orchard
The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
Topic: analyze the impact a minor character had on the main theme
The emancipation of Russian s serfs in mid nineteen century leads to a ground breaking changes
in social and economic status of its citizens. The serfs where freed from a life of servitude to their
masters. This causes some nobleman to loose wealth; while some serfs obtain fortune and thus
improve their social class. The characters in the play are affected by the aftermath of the
Liberation. Madame Ravneskya ,a landowner fails to manage her family s estate due to financial
misstep. She loses her property, including a large cherry Orchard, to Lopakhin , her former serf
who had become a successful business man. Unable to change her way of thinking, Madame
Ravneskya downplays the options given to her to save the ancestral legacy. Therefore, in the he

Hence, Ms Ravenesky is unable to retain her family property due to financial hardships. She not
only loses wealth but also her social rank as an aristocrat. The cutting of the cherry orchard
symbolises the end of an era. The orchard s being chopped down means a period or a situation
being left in the past. In the same manner, Firs is abandoned when everybody vacates the house
after it s been sold .He s forgotten in a house with the door locked. When he realizes this, he says,
the have forgotten about me (34). He is ill and lies on the couch slowly as he as he mumbles and
dies. This is a symbol of the letting go of the past. The members who have accepted the current
reality are gone in their different paths, while Firs like the property and the orchard are left behind

Comparing a Non-Denominational Church with the Catholic...
When choosing a religious service I was very limited on my choices so I was intrigued to go
back to my roots and try the Catholic denomination. This denomination is the one that is most
prevalent in my community and also in my social circle as well. Since I have actually been to a
Catholic church as a child I thought I knew what to expect but I was shocked at how naive I was
to the subject. My preconceived ideas and thoughts were that there would be a lot of getting
down on your knees then back up again then saying your Hail Mary s with not much depth to a
service. Also growing up with a social group that was full of Catholics you would always hear of
confession so that was something I was particularly dreading for the fact that I did not... Show more

Throughout my life I have gone through many good luck charms . Divination is also a common
feature among religions. This was defined in the book as, work of priests or people who have
been specially prepared for the task (Hopfe and Woodward 23). This common feature does not go
along with my religious beliefs once again. It makes me think about fortune tellers, which I have
always wanted to go to. I believe that every religion consists of certain taboos, which is another
common feature among religions. Taboos are certain acts that should be avoided. This plays into
my religion tremendously. Most taboos of the Christian faith are set in the Ten Commandments.
These would include not committing adultery, stealing, using Gods name in vain, etc. Also there
are other taboos that society is becoming more and more lenient on as time progresses. One of
which would include the use of birth control. Christians do not allow anything that restraints the
creation of life. In a study done by the Zogby International telephone poll it found that only 26
percent supported the prohibition against artificial birth control (O Reilly). This shows that
although taboos are set in every religion, they are adapting with the times as society sees fit. Age
also plays a big role in the seriousness of a taboo and what is considered a taboo among certain
religions. Totemism is the one common feature that was very shocking because of the abundance of

Dimmesdale Lacks Courage in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Scarlet...
The Scarlet Letter Dimmesdale is Good, but Lacks Courage There is a fine line between
hypocrisy and cowardice. Arthur Dimmesdale, a principal character in Hawthorne s The Scarlet
Letter provides a perfect example of how thin that line can be. The Scarlet Letter relates a story
about sin and the many consequences of not having strength of character. The true nature of
Reverend Dimmesdale s character has been debated since the first publication of the novel.
Dimmesdale is considered by many to be a hypocrite because he cared more about protecting his
reputation than he did about protecting the woman he loved. Others view the Reverend in a more
sympathetic light and see him as not a hypocrite, but as a good man... Show more content on

This is proved by looking at the torment the Reverend faced internally and externally, his
intentions, and his love and concern for the welfare of Hester and his illegitimate daughter,
Pearl. The agony that Reverend Dimmesdale was feeling throughout the novel had many origins.
For example, his conscience had a great negative effect on him. By keeping his sin a secret, he
internalized the pain that is inevitably a consequence of sinning. The anguished Dimmesdale
struggles to pacify his conscience as it consumes his very being. With every successive Sabbath,
his cheeks grew paler and thinner, and his voice more tremulous than before. This shows that
while Hester s pain was a mental anguish, the Reverend had to deal with both mental as well as
physical pain. Each time Dimmesdale stood in front of his congregation, he felt weaker and
more ashamed. Dimmesdale s pain could be seen not only in his demeanor but also by the
clutching of his chest. Throughout the novel, the Reverend could be seen placing his hand over
his heart, as if the pain of seeing Pearl, or talking to Hester, or merely realizing what he has done,
was too much for him to bear. Pearl often times is quoted noticing the Reverend s strange habit A
strange, sad man is he (Dimmesdale), with his hand always over his heart! An analogy can be
made that the Reverend covers his heart from eyes that can see

between Yin and Yang, locate the case of the problem and correct the problem. As the natural forces
of the body return to a normal balance the disease is then cured. Ancient interventions such as
Acupuncture, moxa, acupressure are widely used and other methods of diagnosis common in TMC
include pulse pulse diagnosis, observation, case history etc
The acupuncture points and the channels that connect them represent the anatomy of traditional
medicine. The physiology is represented by the organ functions. Acupuncture is a strong component
in China, and can be traced to their health care system for at least 2,500 years. The procedure
involves inserting hair thin steel surgical needles into specific points in the body. . When needles

thibetanus. No studies are available as to the exact form of communication between Asiatic black
bears. However, extensive research has been conducted on other members of the family Ursidae
that have senses similar to those of the Asiatic black bear. Using evidence from these studies, it
can be inferred that Asiatic black bears communicate vocally and use their heightened sense of
hearing to aid in listening to these vocalizations. For example, when bear cubs are separated
from their mothers, they make crying calls. Low guttural noises can be indications of a bear
being apprehensive, and clicking the teeth together is an indication of aggressiveness. Bears
often communicate visually with each other by the way in which they move or behave in the
presence of other bears; for example, the behavior of a bear can convey either dominant or
subordinate status to another. To indicate subordinate status, a bear moves away, or sits or lies
down. To convey dominance, a bear walks or runs towards a rival. Bears use their acute sense of
smell in order to communicate with other members of their species; they do so by urinating,
defecating, and by rubbing against trees to leave their scent for other bears to detect (Than, et al.,

The Generation Of Electricity By Photovoltaic Cells Essay
PHOTOVOLTAICS PIYUSH PIYUSH ID 101317400 ABSTRACT The report covers the
generation of electricity by photovoltaic cells. The main idea of this report is to provide
knowledge to the scholar about the photovoltaic power generation and how we can use PV cells
for the production of electricity. In this report there is an explanation of how PV cells can be
used for the production of electricity. The report consists of how concentrating collectors, thin
film technology, building integrated systems and flat plate collectors can be used. The material
used for the production of photovoltaic cells are polycrystalline silicon, thin film materials and
single crystal. The report consists of manufacturing technology used in the production of
photovoltaic cells and how we can improve the cell efficiency and other monetary aspects of
photovoltaic technology. However, the photovoltaic efficiency and production costs has not
reached up to the highest level because of the cost related issues and this technology is not able
to replace the conventional sources of energy such as coal, gas and nuclear powered generating
facilities. Photovoltaic power is used in remote applications such as communications, villages and
homes in many developing countries. In many areas the rooftop installation of solar panels is
smaller but it is rapidly increasing at a great pace. As the industrial sciences narrow down the cost
gap, more applications are increasing and the use of photovoltaic panel has increased.

Cyberbullying is the use of Information Technology to harm or harass other people in a deliberate,

it may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely defaming

The Apotheosis Of The Dance At The Allen Chapel
On Saturday, May 9th, the RIT Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra put on a performance titled the
Apotheosis of the Dance at the Allen Chapel within the Schmitt Interfaith Center. The performance
began with the RIT Chamber Orchestra, featuring mostly stringed instruments, performing works of
Mozart, Bach, and Grainger. After a short intermission, the RIT Orchestraentered and performed a
piece composed by Beethoven. The majority of the concert was conducted by Michael E. Ruhling,
with the exception of a few pieces performed by the Chamber Orchestra that did not require a
conductor. The Orchestra consisted of string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections, and the
Chamber Orchestra only had a string section with a flute soloist. The concert began immediately
with the Chamber Orchestra s performance of Mozart s Divertimento in D major , K. 136. This
piece consisted of the 3 movements, Allegro, Andante, and Presto, which follows the fast slow fast
arrangement typical of the Classical era. Divertimento is one of Mozart s Salzburg symphonies,
which are symphonies performed by only string sections. After the performance of this piece, the
conductor commented on the 2nd violins part, and drew the conclusion that Mozart must have
saved that role for either himself or an enemy. The second piece performed by the Chamber
Orchestra was Bach s Suite No. 2 in B minor , BWV 1067. This piece did not require a conductor,
and also featured a flute soloist, Maisa Peters. Their

the repeal of three strikes and mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Studies suggest that many

Aeneas Fights With Turnus Essay
Aeneas Fights With Turnus
In the Aeneid, Virgil describes many human qualities, problems and characteristics. Some
examples which I wish to illustrate can be found in the end of epic, in the scene of the final duel
between Aeneas and Turnus. Virgil also introduces a novel idea in his work. Both sides, the
Trojans and the Latins, are portrayed as noble people. Even though Aeneas is fated to win, and he
is the hero of the work, the opposing force, Turnus, is not portrayed as evil, but rather like a noble
person in a very hard situation. Virgil deals as much with physical and psychological problems
Turnus faces, being an honest and noble man, as he does with Aeneas s problems.
By the time the battle begins, Turnus knows that he will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She tried to deter Aeneas from his course to Italy while she perfectly knew that the decision of
the Fates was otherwise. Virgil makes it clear that humans and gods alike have the same irrational
and purely emotional desire to achieve that which they know cannot be achieved. This desire is
present in many episodes in the book. I think that Virgil is trying to tell his readers that this desire
is a very fundamental part of people. The drive to achieve the impossible is what always drove
science and human advancement. Virgil is making a comment on a very integral part of the human
psyche. Both Turnus and Aeneas, Venus and Juno have this characteristic. Virgil assigns the same
feeling and emotions to the heroes of both sides of the story.
During the duel of Aeneas and Turnus, Virgil takes another opportunity to describe the desire to
oppose fate. Turnus calls out to Aeneas : Your burning words, ferocious Trojan, do not frighten
me; it is the gods alone who terrify me, and Jupiter, my enemy (Book XII, 1189). The challenge
Turnus saw coming to him was not from Aeneas, but from the gods themselves. Still, by the next
line, Turnus can be observed trying to hurl a stone at Aeneas to continue the luckless fight. How
eager Turnus seems to prove his honor, and die for his belief. If Turnus knew that Jupiter was
against him, he did not have any doubt as to his own defeat. His death is near, and he is not afraid.

Character Analysis Of Dee s Everyday Use
As one of the vital characters in Everyday Use, Dee characterizes what every young adult finding
themselves can relate to. She is very comfortable in her skin as the story unfolds and is one that
many cling to. Although very popular with others she does not exhibit this same quality with her
family. Soon after graduating his school she leaves her family to find herself. She soon return
different in many ways starting with her new name. Soon we find that despite her many changes
in life she still had a place in her that so desperately longs for the things of her past. In general in
Everyday Use, as a new found woman Dee is focused on growing into a new person, but still longs
to connect with her heritage. Dee can be initially viewed as a complex character throughout the
short storyas she evolves to separate herself from but soon returns looking to claim the things of
the past she so desperately sought to separate from. The character Dee can be defined as self
centered. She displays this initially during the burning of the first house. While her sister is
trapped in the house by fire and being rescued by her mother Dee stands far away merely looking
on. This speaks volumes to her lack of concern for others. Where the average person in the same
position may attempt to lend help or offer some sort of assistance she clearly is only concerned
about her own safe. This sets a clear tone of the relationship between Dee and the other main
characters in the story. Similarly to a younger version of Dee when she returns home she has no
regard for others. When Dee returns home she immediately comes in and begins claiming things
that belong to other family members without concern for them or their wanting of those items.
This is most significantly noted in the mention of the quilt that actually had been promised to
Maggie. Despite already having been promised to Maggie, Dee claims the quilt as her own then
gives reason, which she somehow feels are valid, as a way of staking claim of the quilt. `
Although Mama stood up for Maggie during the attempted claiming of the quilt when Mama
describes Dee we can see that she almost excuses Dee for being the way she is. This notion is made
apparent as Mama starts by describing

Inheritance Risk Essay
Out of date wills
Considering Rod and Rachel have not updated their Wills, this presents the issue of the assets of
their estate potentially no longer going to the beneficiaries that they would currently like or intend
to receive.
As Rod has been in two previous marriages, there is the risk that in the event of his passing that
due to his Will no longer being valid due to divorce (Allianz.com.au, 2017), unintended
beneficiaries could stake a claim on his estate (intestate) resulting in Rachel receiving a reduced or
nil benefit.
Also considering they are both business partners in a company, there is the risk that if either of
them pass away, that the share of the company may be inherited by unintended beneficiaries which

A property drafted and up to date Will helps ensure that the testator s wishes are carried out in
accordance with their intentions of distribution of assets (Allianz.com.au, 2017). Whilst it would

intentions that can provide standing to the

Student Centered Learning Methods vs. Teacher Centered Learning Methods
Abstract
The different types of student centered learning methods are described and compared to teacher
centered approaches. Different studies were researched with mixed results. Student centered
methods, when applied to secondary education students and above, provide social and emotional
value to the students and improve reasoning and creative ability. Teacher centered methods work
best in the primary grades and with students faced with low SES.

The categories are: active, cooperative and inductive. In active learning students solve problems,
answer questions, formulate their own questions and brainstorm to acquire knowledge. Cooperative
learning involves students working in teams on problems or projects and creates interdependence
and individual accountability. Inductive methods begin when the teacher presents students with a
specific challenge to solve. Different forms of inductive teaching include: inquiry method, case
based, problem based, project based, discovery and just in time teaching (Prince Felder 14 20).
Results
Studies conducted on each method, in order to find out if there are any significant differences in
achievement between one, and or the other, have proved to be a mixed bag of results and thus
have clouded the picture further. The results reported by Prince and Felder show the inductive
learning methods they discussed were more effective in science, medical and other health related
fields. Specifically in college level courses (14 20). A similar study reported by W.J. McKeachie
at the University of Michigan concurred with Prince and Felder on tests involving reasoning and
creativity. However, test scores of the students in teacher centered environments were higher for
overall achievement (McKeachie 147 149). In a book by Jeanne S. Chall entitled The Academic

Igbo Language In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe adopts a calmatious tone and utilizes diction, figurative
language, and symbolism to capture the corruption of the Igbos culture with the arrival of the
white colonists. Achebe used intense diction throughout the text to make the readers feel the
tragedy and immersion into Igbo culture. He laces his sentences with words like haggard,
(Achebe 4) malevolent, (Achebe 13) and esoteric, (Achebe 88) all of which were used to
describe personalities or actions of clans men. His use of such words emphasizes the tragic and
dismayed tone he utilizes and entices the reader to empathize with the characters. Alternatively,
Achebe utilizes a plethora of Igbo words such as ndichie, (Achebe 12) which is the Igbo word for
elders, or Kotma, (Achebe 174) which was a made up word for the fair skinned court messenger,
that was a corrupted translation to mean ashy buttocks. The use of african words in Things Fall
Aparthelped emphasize the importance of their culture, especially upon its corruption. The Igbo
languagealso created a sense of dramatic irony because the intentions of the translations from white
men where altered and neither group, the Igbo or the locusts, truly understood what the other
meant. In addition to diction, using symbolism, Achebe illustrated the Igbo values by emphasizing
the importance of kola nuts, yams, and the gods to the reader. In the beginning of the book
Okonkwo s father Unoka was conversing with a man named Okoye,

Television As A Place Of Fantasy And Enjoyment For An...
Television dramas in today s day and age has become a place of fantasy and enjoyment for an
audience ranging in different ages. It was created to build upon creative idea s of scriptwriters
and producers; however, the basis of these creative idea s stems from daily life occurrences that
one sees on a regular span. This can include crime, politics, family, or romance, but in reality,
how many of these ideas and scripts are an accurate representation of daily life in terms of those
subjects? Edgar Allan Poe once said that one should, Believe only half of what you see and
nothing that you hear. and this can answer the question set above. This is because realistically,
society should only be believing in half of what they see and nothing that they hear on
television. The shows that are created to air on television are built and directed in order to keep
a person s interest; the accuracy of the information of which is relayed at times are the least of a
scriptwriters concerns as facts are not always as exciting as drama. In contrast, there are
exceptions in these cases and it can be seen within the media portrayed show, Law and Order:
Special Victims Unit (Wolf,1999) as it shows an accurate real life representation of court and
police proceedings that is demonstrated through coerced confessions, role of a forensic psychiatrist
in a criminal affair, and a hung jurysituation.

The purpose of this study is to produce succinic acid from glycerol residue through anaerobic
fermentation process. The study of reaction parameters (pH, temperature and mass substrate) was
performed by using expert design software in glycerol recovery process. One factor at one time
(OFAT) method was performed as preliminary studies for selection of parameters range and
subsequently determine its optimum condition using response surface methodology (RSM). The
concentration of glyceroland succinic acid were determined using HPLC analysis. The FTIR
spectrometry was applied to examine the adsorption of organic element. Statistical optimization
(Respond Surface design Methodology) showed that optimal conditions were at pH, 2, temperature
35 0C and substrate 110.36 gram. At this optimum, 159.312 g/L was recovery of glycerol was
obtained. Succinic acid was produced via fermentationprocess by using Escherichia coli type k 12
under 19.67 g/L initial glycerol concentration, 200 rpm rotation speed and at temperature 37 0C.
The work resulted 0.66983 g/L succinic acid been produced. The study also investigated succinic
acid production from commercial glycerol and its resulted about 0.73337 g/L. Overall, this
research showed that the glycerol waste can be used as a carbon sources to produce succinic acid
via fermentationprocess by using Escherichia coli type k 12. From the fermentation process, the

Besides being a well written play, the comedic devices that each act holds is used to help develop
the plot and the comedy effect of The Taming of the Shrew. The devices used has shown the
audience how the shrew could be changed by receiving the same treatment it has been giving.
Shakespeare used comedic devices to help keep the audience focused on the story and keep them

when certain events with family drama, quick witted language, and unexpected scenarios that take

Personality Typology Self Assessment Paper

taking Jung s typology test I received the personality type INTJ. The introvert score given was a
59 percent, intuitive 16 percent, thinking 25 percent and judging 56 percent. Based on these
scores I took a look at what my strengths would be. According to the website used to take the test
one strength would be that INTJ s are perfectionist while some may consider this a bit of a
weakness, I don t think it s such a bad thing. INTJ see that there is always room to improve and
learn more, especially about things that they find interesting. Another strength is having the
combination of both imagination and reliability, this is good when it comes to working on
projects or coming up with an idea for something, because not only can you envision what it will
be but you can decide realistically if it will work. Butt and Heiss (n.d.) say that INTJ s are also
good at seeing opportunities other people may not. The high introvert score indicates I am much
better at working alone then with the help of others, and normally working on something until it is
completed. When it comes to other strengths, INTJ s will work extremely hard in relationships and
are very good at picking up people s emotions. This is part of the intuitive dimension. Thinkers are

When my grandma couldn t have children she adopted my dad, uncle, and aunt. I love them all,
but I started to think what about the other children who are still in the adoption centers across
the world, who some people can t adopt. Everyone deserves a home with a loving family, and an
eternal family. Children across the world have to stay in a center or orphanage for a long time,
even when a person wants to adopt them. In some countries you have to live there for at least 4

Although some people argue that people should not be able to adopt international because of
money. Despite this idea, That reason is absolutely not valid because people can always get a loan
and if the adoption caretakers only care about money, then they don t need to sell children. For
example, article Overseas Orphans. claims that children who get adopted learn love. Providing a
loving and safe environment. (Green,, n.p.) In other words love from a family is greater than a lot of
things. Additionally, according to article The Evangelical Orphan Boom. claims that children
who get adopted are cared for. Adoption also embodied a more holistic pro life message caring
for children outside the womb as well as within. (The Evangelical Orphan Boom,, n.p.) Basically
adoption is spectacular for a caring home. Lastly, according to Acting Out the Role of Single

we needed a cultural medium to accomplish that. ( Hyung sook,, n.p.) What this means is parents

Graduation Requirements For American Students
In recent years many educators have voiced their concern about losing our edge in the global
marketplace as well as an apparent decline in American students achievements. This has become
a reoccurring belief for many teachers, parents, and school districts throughout the United
States. As a result, many states have begun to increase the amount of units necessary to fulfill
graduation requirements in hope to enhance education and make American students more
globally competitive. As many districts have found, it is not feasible to add more subjects to
the already demanding 6 or 7 period days. The problem in doing so is that there was little time
for electives. At the same time, they began to find that adding classes only took away time from
other parts of the curriculum already established. While some districts fumbled with the idea of
adding classes and minimizing losses in other areas, a large number of schools, more
specifically 25 40 percent of U.S high schools adopted block scheduling (American Federation of
Teachers, 1999). It is apparent the block scheduling craze is thought to be a fix all solution to the
problem, at least for those districts and individuals looking for anything to help increase the status
quo. In a nutshell, block scheduling is the practice of breaking up school time into blocks or units
of classroom time. More recently we have seen this practice redefined to stand for a restructuring
movement for longer classroom periods. Typically average class

Yoga and Meditation Styles
There are many different styles, forms and intensities of yoga that one can practice. Yoga is not
a one size fits all type of exercise. The beauty of yoga is that anyone at any age, including the
elderly, can practice this ancient art. Many gyms are now offering yoga classes to their members
as well as yoga specific studios which are popping up all across the country. Keep in mind that one
style is not better than another but rather a personal preference. If taking a class, it s important that
the student is comfortable with the teacher, notably; liking one s teacher is also true of learning and
practicing meditation.
Following is a list and short description of yoga styles that have been or are becoming quite popular
all over the world. All yoga styles incorporate meditation into them. * Ashtanga This yoga is for
those who want a serious and physically demanding workout. It involves synchronizing breathing
with progressive and continuous series of postures a process producing intense internal heat and a
profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs (Mats, LLC, 2013). Not recommended

How Does Cassius Use Ethos In Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar Funeral Speech Analysis There are many different ways to appeal to an audience or
any group of people. One very clever way of doing this would be to use logos, pathos and ethos.
Logos uses inductive or deductive reasoning by citing facts as evidence, therefore proving their
point using logical evidence. Another technique that an author can use is Pathos, when using pathos
the author tries to appeal to the emotions of the audience by describing the effect of a situation,
essentially trying to affect the audience s emotions. When using Ethosit is important for the author
to establish themselves as a trustworthy, respectful, and knowledgeable person. Doing this the
author can use ethical information to win over the audience.The... Show more content on

One of the first times that Brutus uses Pathos is in Act three when he says, Had you rather

have become slaves, but now since he is dead they can all live as free men and women. By
saying this Brutus was affecting the people s emotions by saying what would would have been
their future by using pathos. The next rhetorical strategy that Brutus uses would be logos.
Brutus uses logos when he says ... that I loved Caesar less, but I loved Rome more (III. ii. l.

he hated Caesar. The last rhetorical device that Brutus uses is ethos. Brutus uses ethos when he
says Believe me for mine honor , and have respect to mine honor, that you may believe (II. ii. LL.

One of the most valuable assets for any firm is the intangible asset represented by its brands.
Therefore, it s important to properly manage brands to maximize their value or brand equity to the
firm (Keller amp; Lehmann, 2003). 4.0 Image in consumer s mind
Branding in the classic sense is all about creating unique identities and positions for products and
services, hence distinguishing the offerings from competitors (Keller amp; Lehmann, 2003). By
carrying out the above marketing actions Intel would have anticipated to create an image in the
mind sets of their target audience that is vivid and different from their competitors, reliable, a
knowhow of the components that go into the computer, pioneers in that field of business, great hold
on the market share or leaders in the microprocessor industry, a reputed company picture, and
introduction of a new slogan helped to achieve the renewed success. These marketing strategies
were implemented to gain consumer loyalty, to create a brand personality, identity, awareness and
brand equity.

American Exceptionalism
American Exceptionalism is defined in literature as Americans deprecation of power politics and
old fashioned diplomacy, mistrust of powerful standing armies and entangling peacetime
commitments, their supposedly moralistic judgements about other people s domestic systems, and
belief that liberal values transfer readily to foreign affairs. The reason for American Exceptionalism
could be chased back to American Culture and American Spirit. Even though the United States
system is not subject to the same contradictions and influences as other countries. The belief in
American superiority finds its foundation in some of their culture s basic religious and cultural
constructs. And it s being confirmed that the mental and moral superiority of Americans being
actively reiterated by American culture to the American public via movies, television and political
rhetoric. The American Spirit is being realized for all Americans are told in media that only they
know how the world really works, and only they know how it should be worked. So the American
Exceptionlism is the result of American culture and spirit.
Harold Koh and Ted Bromund are keeping different opinions based on the influence of American
Exceptionlism. It is a debate between pure virtues and both good and bad . In my opinion,
American Exceptionalism has both good and bad sides and we should try to reduce the double
standards by following better angles of national nature.

  • 2. Misconceptions About Mars I don t think men are from Mars. I think they re from Whoville, where every year they align with the Grinch and band together to ruin Christmas. Each holiday, after thoughtfully deciding on, shopping for, and wrapping the perfect presents for my boyfriend, I can t wait to see what he picked out for me. I breathlessly anticipate tearing open the perfect romantic/sentimental gift, and every year I m sorely disappointed. I m not alone. Do they do it on purpose? Of course not. It s just that men hate the pressure of holiday shopping and would cut off their right arm to avoid it. It shows. We women, on the other hand, have high expectations because we put lots of thought into gift giving. Throughout the year, we pick up on the little hints he ... Of course there will be a few surprises thrown in. Over the years though, it has been a stressful time. I think that whole Mars Venus comes into play. She wants cleaning to be easier... a new Shop Vac oughta help. Something we can enjoy together...doesn t a plasma TV fit the bill? Jim: I am not crazy about shopping generally, but I don t really mind holiday shopping. I figure she puts up with my crap all year long, so it s my chance to do something nice and let her know I appreciate her. Choosing something she ll really like is tough sometimes, and the fact that I m a world class procrastinator doesn t help things. I try to have some fairly definite ideas about what to get, and then hit the mall early (like 8:00 a.m., usually the Saturday before Christmas) before the crowds arrive. Also from Jim: Cautionary tale about a guy I used to work with: He waited until Christmas Eve to go shopping for his wife, and when he tried to check out he discovered that she had already maxed out all their credit cards! • 4. The Theory Of Substance Dependention This essay consists of information concerning substance dependence. It outlines what substance dependence is all about, which includes its symptoms, a theory to explain the phenomena and the South African perspective of the disorder. Substance Dependence is a behavioral and physiological phenomenon which happens after a person has been practicing substance use over a long period of time and the individual does this repeatedly (Austin, Botha, Du Plessis, Du Plessis, Jordaan, Lake, Moletsane, Nel, Pillay, Ure, Visser, Von Krosigk, Vorster, 2013). People who use these substances have difficulty controlling the amounts they consume and tend to use the substance excessively; the person has a continued desire to use the substance. They tend to crave the substance therefore causing a difficulty in controlling the use of the substance. Substance dependence disorders are more severe forms of Substance abuse disorders and involves a physiological dependence on the substance (Coleman, Butcher Carson,1984,Pg. 397). Substance dependence can occur at any age but happens to be most common in adolescence and young adulthood, leaving teenagers more prone to being affected by it (Coleman, Butcher Carson, 1984, Pg. 419).... • 5. Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year old boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an ongoing dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person view, which is important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of war; specially the Civil War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the destruction and chaos of war destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced to war first hand. To characterize and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as imagery and symbolism to further his points. He really wants to drive home how this boy s romanticism for war can be turned upside down, especially when directly affected by war. Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into perspective by initially describing him as a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small field and entered a forest unobserved and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery and conquest , alluding to the fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible and carefree attitude sets the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. As the story progresses further, the boy ends up falling asleep in the woods and later wakes up too an army marching forward towards battle. The boy naively sees this as a game and joins in, only to experience the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Joseph The story of a young brother that unleashed anger, envy, annoyance , and rivalry in his own family. He was the eldest son of Jacob and Rachel, the product of true love. His life faced a turning point, caused by his father s decisions which later became the reality of being abandoned by his brothers, sold to the Ishmaelite and being raised in another culture. While It was his father s and brother s decisions that made Joseph fulfill his destiny in Egypt , Jacobs behavior leads to conflicts in his family. Joseph is given preference over the rest of his brothers, and he is awarded with a tunic that makes his father s position towards the rest very clear..The beginning of parental favoritism, can be traced a few chapters back in the book of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would have been better for the entire family if Jacob would have never given the garment, because everyone knew already that Joseph had the undivided attention from his father, and the tunic was not necessary to approve that. Jacob is the one to blame for unleashing the wrath of his sons towards Joseph. The problem was big enough and there was no need to make it bigger, which eventually later in the story results in Joseph s exile into Egypt. Most importantly this is a passage that interestingly shows many family problems that we are currently witnesses of, such as parents marking their children lives through their decisions which further more have an outcome in their children future and that parents are not always the best at their job, but they think they are. This story is important , it shows the traveling periods of human beings , how obstacles in life can shape a person and be rewarding in the future. It is clear that God, had a plan for Joseph, since the beginning of the story, we do not know why, but maybe it was Joseph s attitude overall that honored God. And he is to be truly admired by his faithfulness in the entire story, he never gave up. His dreams were a vision of the future, and visions that became true, in the moment he saved his family s ... • 7. Essay on Constitutional Framers The Constitutional Framers envisioned a national government that, like Plato s cave, would be at a distance and out of sight of the everyday affairs and thoughts of ordinary Americans. They had envisioned Washington D.C. to be a cultural mecca on par with the capitals of European nations, both economically and socially. The reality of the Washington Community was a disaster compared to the lofty ambitions of the founding fathers; a desolate purgatory to be endured. The socially and economically barren capital combined Spartan living conditions with isolation. High turnover was prevalent in both the houseand senate; a disappointment to the Federalists who had hoped for institutional memory within congress. Instead of creating the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lack of historical precedent for building a governmental center ex nihil did not apparently, generate any misgivings about the bold enterprise (Young, p. 96). The capital was destined to be a success; so sure of this fact, funds for public buildings were expected to be raised through private land speculation. Reality was a colossal failure; the founders were so successful at removing congress from the minds of Americans that few thought to invest in the land speculation. The capital was an economic disaster, a backwater community saved only by financial intervention from neighboring states. For it was states, not citizens, that were revealed to have a proprietary interest in the national establishment, and it was states that came to the rescue when the entire project was threatened with collapse (Young, p. 99). Even with external funds, the Washington community remained a desolate swamp no one wished to inhabit. Limited buildings, commerce and trade produced an environment of barbaric day to day living conditions for congressmen. They worked together, daily assembled in the noisy auditoriums of the Capital, with no offices but their desks on the floor itself. They lived together in the same lodging houses. They took their meals together around the same boardinghouse tables. • 8. Germanic Influence on Higher Education Germanic Influence on Higher Education Before one can move forward with their education one must understand where it all started. When researching the history of higher education there is a common theme in every aspect of my research. I would find the word college and the word university . Throughout the 19th century there would be some confusion between the two words. In colleges the primary role is teaching where as in the university research and scholarships are the primary role (Lucas,2006). Also, current universities offer post baccalaureate or graduate instruction whereas colleges do not. However, this was not always the case before the 19th century. The impact of German university scholarship upon nineteenth century American higher education is one of the most significant in modern intellectual history (Westmeyer, 1985,p. ?). Before the impact of Germany American universities were not research and scholarship based. American scholars were beginning to get frustrated that they did not have the opportunity to develop higher studies within their schools. While this frustration started to grow students began to look for other ways to advance their studies. During 1815 1914 10,000 students took the opportunity to try and evolve their knowledge through attending German universities (Westmeyer, 1985). Of the 10,000 students academic celebrities as Leopold von Ranke, Herman von Homholtz, Wilhem Wundt took this opportunity to advance their knowledge through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. King David Research Paper Jensen s Format Writing Kaitlyn B. Martin pg. 73832478 David and Solomon: Kings of Legend Throughout the Old Testament, there are many examples of great kings that can be found. However, two of the greatest and most blessed Kings were King David and his son, King Solomon. Here, we will compare the lives and reigns of both kings by reviewing their faith, their triumphs, and their downfalls. King David was annointed by God at a young age, when he was still a shepherd boy tending to his family s flocks. He was charged to go forth and kill the giant Goliath, despite the fact that he was a boy that had never faced battle, and had no weapon aside from his slingshot and rocks. Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, David was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most notable example is his affair with Bathsheba, whom he saw bathing upon the rooftops one night. David knew that Bathsheba was marrie to Uriah, one of his military leaders. But he nevertheless sent for her and committed adultery with her, and from this sin a child was conceived. At first, David tried to cover his indiscretion and bade Uriah to go to his wife in the hopes that they would lie together and the baby might be passed off as Uriah s. However, when Uriah refused to go to his wife, David had him killed, and took Bathsheba to be his own wife. As a result of these sins, God was greatly displeased with David, and punished him with the death of his first son. Like his father before him, King Solomon also had troubles with women; namely that he married too many of them. Though God granted him with wisdom beyond all other men, Solomon fell to the sins of the flesh. According to 1 Kings 11:1, he loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites. These were women from tribes whom God had expressly forbidden the Israelites from mixing with for the purposes that they were tribes who worshipped false gods and idols, and would surely turn the Israelites away from their faith in the One True God. Mr. Costner and Mr. Paxton acquit themselves well, and Mr. Reynolds gives the ambushes and shootouts, filmed in Romania, a shambling, ugly realism (Hale 2012). Hale was impressed by how well Reynolds was able to show the feel and environment of the nineteenth century Kentucky. • 11. Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were no adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without parental supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just like the boy s original fantasies. Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more like animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under Ralph s leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced himself as the new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos and destructive behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal. Mob song Beauty and the Beast The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast. Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled through a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon and Piggy both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow, much like the novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs. Ralph A character Sketch One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island. His good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys. Although he lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with sound judgment and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping instincts that affect the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder. Regardless, Ralph remains the most civilized character throughout the novel, save for Piggy. At the end of the novel, it was somewhat tragic because Ralph finally understands that evil lives inside of all the boys. This leaves him depressed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Theme Of Blindness In Raymond Carver s Cathedral Blindness is not limited to physical manifestation. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the figurative blindness is immediately apparent through the narrator and his shallowness, irrational jealousy, and egotistical personality. His dismissive behavior and ignorance towards the feelings of Robert, his wife s blind friend, speak negatively of his character and reveals his insecurities. While the narrator s emotional blindnessand Robert s physical blindness initially inhibits their bond, it eventually leads the narrator to an epiphany and the beginning of a character transformation. The different forms of blindness allow the characters to bond and grow over the course of the story. Throughout Robert s visit, the narrator makes snide and insensitive remarks, despite his wife s wishes. His misunderstanding of relationships and people is his visible flaw. It isn t until the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He makes this clear in the opening paragraph of the story where he says I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to (Carver 1). The narrator dismisses Robert in the same manner a white racist may dismiss an African American. His prejudice, or any prejudice, is preconceived based on superficial qualities rather than actual experience or reason. It is evident the narrator can t see beyond Robert s disability and is judging Robert because of a characteristic that makes him uncomfortable. This unconscious placement of Robert into an atypical category prevents him from seeing Robert as an individual. The narrator does not see Robert as a whole person, but solely as a blind man. These include endorectal dissection, anterior perineal approaches, and many different types of anoplasties However, most pediatric surgeons now use the posterior sagittal approach to repair these malformations with or without laparotomy or laparoscopy ( Levitt and Pena, 2006). Posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) as described by pena and levitt ( Levitt and Pena, 2014): A Foley catheter is inserted and the patient is placed in prone position with the pelvis elevated. The incision is a posterior sagittal one, in between both buttocks, running from the middle portion of the sacrum down to the anal dimple, which is electrically determined. I believe that every religion consists of certain taboos, which is another common feature among religions. Taboos are certain acts that should be avoided. This plays into my religion tremendously. Most taboos of the Christian faith are set in the Ten Commandments. Arthur Dimmesdale, a principal character in Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter provides a perfect example of how thin that line can be. The Scarlet Letter relates a story about sin and the many consequences of not having strength of character. The true nature of Reverend Dimmesdale s character has been debated since the first publication of the novel. This is proved by looking at the torment the Reverend faced internally and externally, his intentions, and his love and concern for the welfare of Hester and his illegitimate daughter, Pearl. The agony that Reverend Dimmesdale was feeling throughout the novel had many origins. For example, his conscience had a great negative effect on him. By keeping his sin a secret, he internalized the pain that is inevitably a consequence of sinning. The anguished Dimmesdale struggles to pacify his conscience as it consumes his very being. With every successive Sabbath, his cheeks grew paler and thinner, and his voice more tremulous than before. This shows that while Hester s pain was a mental anguish, the Reverend had to deal with both mental as well as physical pain. Each time Dimmesdale stood in front of his congregation, he felt weaker and more ashamed. Dimmesdale s pain could be seen not only in his demeanor but also by the clutching of his chest. Throughout the novel, the Reverend could be seen placing his hand over his heart, as if the pain of seeing Pearl, or talking to Hester, or merely realizing what he has done, was too much for him to bear. The main idea of this report is to provide knowledge to the scholar about the photovoltaic power generation and how we can use PV cells for the production of electricity. In this report there is an explanation of how PV cells can be used for the production of electricity. The report consists of how concentrating collectors, thin film technology, building integrated systems and flat plate collectors can be used. The material used for the production of photovoltaic cells are polycrystalline silicon, thin film materials and single crystal. The report consists of manufacturing technology used in the production of photovoltaic cells and how we can improve the cell efficiency and other monetary aspects of photovoltaic technology. However, the photovoltaic efficiency and production costs has not reached up to the highest level because of the cost related issues and this technology is not able to replace the conventional sources of energy such as coal, gas and nuclear powered generating facilities. The Apotheosis Of The Dance At The Allen Chapel On Saturday, May 9th, the RIT Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra put on a performance titled the Apotheosis of the Dance at the Allen Chapel within the Schmitt Interfaith Center. The performance began with the RIT Chamber Orchestra, featuring mostly stringed instruments, performing works of Mozart, Bach, and Grainger. After a short intermission, the RIT Orchestraentered and performed a piece composed by Beethoven. The majority of the concert was conducted by Michael E. Ruhling, with the exception of a few pieces performed by the Chamber Orchestra that did not require a conductor. The Orchestra consisted of string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections, and the Chamber Orchestra only had a string section with a flute soloist. The concert began immediately with the Chamber Orchestra s performance of Mozart s Divertimento in D major , K. 136. This piece consisted of the 3 movements, Allegro, Andante, and Presto, which follows the fast slow fast arrangement typical of the Classical era. Divertimento is one of Mozart s Salzburg symphonies, which are symphonies performed by only string sections. After the performance of this piece, the conductor commented on the 2nd violins part, and drew the conclusion that Mozart must have saved that role for either himself or an enemy. The second piece performed by the Chamber Orchestra was Bach s Suite No. 2 in B minor , BWV 1067. This piece did not require a conductor, and also featured a flute soloist, Maisa Peters. Their ... Some examples which I wish to illustrate can be found in the end of epic, in the scene of the final duel between Aeneas and Turnus. Virgil also introduces a novel idea in his work. Both sides, the Trojans and the Latins, are portrayed as noble people. Even though Aeneas is fated to win, and he is the hero of the work, the opposing force, Turnus, is not portrayed as evil, but rather like a noble person in a very hard situation. Virgil deals as much with physical and psychological problems Turnus faces, being an honest and noble man, as he does with Aeneas s problems. She tried to deter Aeneas from his course to Italy while she perfectly knew that the decision of the Fates was otherwise. Virgil makes it clear that humans and gods alike have the same irrational and purely emotional desire to achieve that which they know cannot be achieved. This desire is present in many episodes in the book. I think that Virgil is trying to tell his readers that this desire is a very fundamental part of people. The drive to achieve the impossible is what always drove science and human advancement. Virgil is making a comment on a very integral part of the human psyche. Both Turnus and Aeneas, Venus and Juno have this characteristic. Virgil assigns the same feeling and emotions to the heroes of both sides of the story. During the duel of Aeneas and Turnus, Virgil takes another opportunity to describe the desire to oppose fate. Turnus calls out to Aeneas : Your burning words, ferocious Trojan, do not frighten me; it is the gods alone who terrify me, and Jupiter, my enemy (Book XII, 1189). The challenge Turnus saw coming to him was not from Aeneas, but from the gods themselves. Still, by the next line, Turnus can be observed trying to hurl a stone at Aeneas to continue the luckless fight. How eager Turnus seems to prove his honor, and die for his belief. If Turnus knew that Jupiter was against him, he did not have any doubt as to his own defeat. His death is near, and he is not afraid. A few paragraphs later however, ... Soon after graduating his school she leaves her family to find herself. She soon return different in many ways starting with her new name. Soon we find that despite her many changes in life she still had a place in her that so desperately longs for the things of her past. In general in Everyday Use, as a new found woman Dee is focused on growing into a new person, but still longs to connect with her heritage. Dee can be initially viewed as a complex character throughout the short storyas she evolves to separate herself from but soon returns looking to claim the things of the past she so desperately sought to separate from. The character Dee can be defined as self centered. She displays this initially during the burning of the first house. While her sister is trapped in the house by fire and being rescued by her mother Dee stands far away merely looking on. This speaks volumes to her lack of concern for others. Where the average person in the same position may attempt to lend help or offer some sort of assistance she clearly is only concerned about her own safe. This sets a clear tone of the relationship between Dee and the other main characters in the story. Similarly to a younger version of Dee when she returns home she has no regard for others. When Dee returns home she immediately comes in and begins claiming things that belong to other family members without concern for them or their wanting of those items. This is most significantly noted in the mention of the quilt that actually had been promised to Maggie. Despite already having been promised to Maggie, Dee claims the quilt as her own then gives reason, which she somehow feels are valid, as a way of staking claim of the quilt. ` Although Mama stood up for Maggie during the attempted claiming of the quilt when Mama describes Dee we can see that she almost excuses Dee for being the way she is. The use of african words in Things Fall Aparthelped emphasize the importance of their culture, especially upon its corruption. Graduation Requirements For American Students In recent years many educators have voiced their concern about losing our edge in the global marketplace as well as an apparent decline in American students achievements. This has become a reoccurring belief for many teachers, parents, and school districts throughout the United States. As a result, many states have begun to increase the amount of units necessary to fulfill graduation requirements in hope to enhance education and make American students more globally competitive. As many districts have found, it is not feasible to add more subjects to the already demanding 6 or 7 period days. The problem in doing so is that there was little time for electives. At the same time, they began to find that adding classes only took away time from other parts of the curriculum already established. While some districts fumbled with the idea of adding classes and minimizing losses in other areas, a large number of schools, more specifically 25 40 percent of U.S high schools adopted block scheduling (American Federation of Teachers, 1999). It is apparent the block scheduling craze is thought to be a fix all solution to the problem, at least for those districts and individuals looking for anything to help increase the status quo.
