Napoleon s Enlightened Policies
While expanding his empire, Napoleon promoted certain enlightened ideologies; however, Napoleon s
self glorification corrupted his enlightened principles. Napoleon s military and political success
undoubtedly established him as the ultimate despot, but the prominence of Napoleon s self exaltation
hindered his progress as an enlightened figure. Napoleon s actions politically and militarily were all
fueled by his insatiable desire to self exalt. Napoleon was assuredly the greatest ruler of his time, but
his need to self glorify undermined his enlightened policies. Napoleon promoted numerous policies
which reflected an enlightened perspective. Within the Napoleonic Code. Napoleon supported equality

Friendship is only a word; I love nobody; no not even my brothers. (Sherman 76). Within this diary
entry Napoleon depicts his extreme vanity. Napoleon was not a friend of the French people. Napoleon
did not act we to further the enlightened ideologies of his countrymen. Napoleon s single driving

God s Principles Of God
God designed nature so meticulously perfect that His imprint is obvious in every living thing. Some
scientists want to explain away God. Steven Hawking, once an advocate of belief, in God, suddenly
changed his mind. He stated that science offers a more convincing explanation for the origins of the
universe, and that the miracles of religion aren t compatible with scientific fact. Although very
unreasonable, this change of heart exhibits one of God s basic gifts to the human race: free choice.
God will not force people to accept Him.
Creationists and evolutionists will argue about the beginning of mankind until the end of mankind.
There have been many famous scientists whose works have included God. Nicholas Copernicus, Sir
Francis Bacon, and Galileo Galilei, to name a few, believed whole heartedly in a higher being.
Although there are many more scientists that align themselves with faith, it seems the more educated a
person is, the more likely they are not to believe in God. The human ego wants to believe that we are
the center of the universe. It believes we are in control and superior to all things. People called
evolutionists are consumed with ego which is an acronym for Edging God Out. They make
observations and come to conclusions, but refuse to see the obvious fact: that without God as the
mastermind of creation, nature would not exist in harmony. We do not exist by chance. Einstein s
famous epithet on the uncertainty principle was God does not play

The Cupcake Craft
As we started to approach the tall brick building filled with various activities, we could see the endless
crowds of people gathering around the front doors. Starting to get upon the tip of my toes, I was
startled by my mother who leaped in front of the four of my cousins and I.
Smile, darlings! my mother ordered. She reached for the camera around her neck as we groaned and
wrapped our arms around each other. She snapped the photo with a click of her finger. Perfect!
Opening the doors to the craft room, the smell of fresh paint instantly filled our nostrils. Every year
before Summer came to an end, my mother would take my cousins and I to a museum called Grounds

I was jumping with joy
I spotted this luscious bright purple and squeezed it, popping the cap off and hitting my other younger
cousin, Joe directly in the face. I couldn t hold it in and started to laugh hysterically.
Hey! Joe blurted. He turned around with a green squirt bottle in his hands. Take this!
I felt a hard bump on my chest as if someone had just punched me. I looked down to see green paint
splattered all over my shirt. I tilted my head up to see my mom with a look of horror on her face as if
she had just witnessed a murder. All of us had our jaws dropped wide open, except for Joe, he looked
like any second now he would start exploding with laughter.
What has gotten into you two? my mother questioned with frustration.
She brought me into the bathroom and started digging through her purse. She pulled out an extra T
shirt that was plain black.
How did you
My mother cut me off before I could finish. I know you guys too well to not be prepared for this.
I put on the new shirt that my mother had packed and we walked back to our craft table. I noticed that
Amy was using the purple I wanted and that it was close to being empty. Hey! Don t use it all! Kind of
too late, don t you think? Amy replied with a tone of sass. Before I was about to say anything, the lady

Schoolies Week
About 40,000 young people are expected to flock to the Gold Coast this year for Schoolies week. ()
Starting in the 1970s as a harmless swim in the ocean followed by a few days of enjoying what the
Gold Coast has to offer, Schoolies week has evolved into a multi million dollar industry (), that
involves a mass amount of risk taking behaviour executed by a mass amount of eager school leavers.
Such risk taking behaviour was surveyed in 2011 by .....showing that a total of 73.6% of school
leavers got drunk during Schoolies week, 30% had sexual intercourse, and more than half of them
without a condom.()

Scarlet Letter Roast Essay
Roast Joseph Conrad s Kurtz from Heart of Darkness is an insecure man, that is afraid of failure.
Kurtz whole purpose in the novel was to collect ivory and he was the best at it, but his time in Africa
was detrimental to his character, which is why he deserves this roast. His time in Africa authorized
him to enslave and kill many natives of the Congo, which makes him a despicable character in all, but
it is his greediness and cowardice to do the right thing that makes him an awful human being. Kurtz
knew that the enslavement of the natives was wrong once he realized kinship between himself and the
natives, but him, being the coward he is, could not afford to lose his position as the best ivory
collector for other human beings. His disregard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pearl proves herself intelligent when, as a small child, she notices the prejudice directed toward her
and her mother. She proves to be most perceptive when she was able to correctly guess her father
without knowing a thing about him just by Dimmesdale s actions and interactions with Hester. Most
children are unaware of the issues that concern adults and instead are distracted with child games, but
not Pearl. Pearl questioned the whole town for their bigoted values by asking her mother why she had
to wear the scarlet letter but not her father. In fact, she was the only person that called Dimmesdale out
for his hypocrisy and cowardly behavior. Pearl is strong for defying the standards which were placed
upon her from an early age, such as her sinful nature which was never there and other rules that could
not be amenable to her. Her isolation from the rest of the community forced her to be strong

she defends herself from the words of other children that are ignorant of the hardships that follow the

judgement of others, she protects them both using the fear instilled into others by Hester and Pearl s

Short And Long-Term Effects Of Alcohol Abuse
Substance Related Disorders
1. Describe a number of short and long term effects of alcohol abuse.
Some short term effects of alcohol abuse are the reduction of tension, production of pleasurable
affects, as well as slowed thinking and memory loss. Studies also show poor decision making to be a
short term effect of alcohol consumption. Some long term effects are psychological deterioration as
well as a physical deterioration. Just about every organ is adversely affected by the long term
consumption of alcohol. For example, a person who uses alcohol long term reduces the amount of
food intake due to the calories consumed by alcohol that has little nutritional value. Over time this
person can become malnourished. Long term use of alcohol can ... Show more content on

The DSM IV TR criteria for substance dependence requires the person to have three or more of the
following; tolerance, characteristic withdrawal symptoms, substance taken in larger amount and for a
longer period of time than intended, persistent desire or repeated unsuccessful attempt to quit, more
time or activity to obtain, use and recover, important social, occupational, or recreational activities

age to check the transition. They were only able to find fish found in 380 million year old rock and the
animals with limbs in 365 million year old rocks. Sedimentary rocks are ideal because they are made
due to the turns of the river, ocean and lakes. This is the place where fishes and animals are ideal to
live and survive upon. Also the environment, in which they are made, doesn t destroy the fossils and
they preserve them. In 2004, the fossils were found on Ellesmere Island in Northern Canada. This
location was chosen because this is the place where there are no humans or roads or any disturbance
that would forbid them to dig anywhere they want.

Obesity: One of the ancient trait we have is to store food in our body when we need that in the event
of the famine. Back in the old days, we use to prey on other animals and hunt and we were
agriculturist. But, in the modern world, there are a lot of people that just eat and doesn t exercise or
not, let the calories burn. They also overstuff themselves, letting the food they had before sit there and
convert into fat. This is the ultimate reason for humans to get overweight. This tells us that our body
was made to eat food in a limited amount and exercising.
Hemorrhoids: The hemorrhoids are caused when the blood doesn t pump through the veins properly.
This would not be the case in the humans that stays active because it would constantly pump the veins.
But, humans who are inactive, this can lead to their veins storing the blood. After a while the vein
would get bigger and bigger and leave a person in pain. This can also lead to the vein getting popped
and all the blood draining out. This also tells us that we have not built to just sit for a longer period of

Importance Of Political Egalitarianism
Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have equal
conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of political
equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio professional
categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the
only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the
others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects
participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with
different economic situations participate in the society, specifically whether they try to help to solve
problems in the community if they ask help from government officials and etc. It also examines other
factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election, and believe that politicians listen to the
needs of people. Many studies on different countries have established that the greater economic status
of the individuals corresponds to greater political participation. Political commitment is quite rigidly
subordinates to the following logic: a certain social and economic position that evokes a sense of
social and political competence generates a certain level of political participation. Understanding
political participation presupposes the ability to understand

Responsibility For Carbon Emission Reduction

Responsibility for Carbon Emission Reduction
Nowadays, climate change has become an increasingly crucial problem for the whole world. To figure
out this problem, the United Nations holds an annual climate summit which discusses how to respond
to global climate change, and promote world wide actions to promote the progress of Copenhagen and
Kyoto Protocol. In the Copenhagen conference, 2009, a framework for climate change migration
beyond 2012 was to be agreed.
As we all known, there was a series of intense conversations between developed countries and
developing countries about the carbon dioxide emission cup for each country. On one hand, BASIC
countries, the representative of developing countries, held that they were developing and needed large
amount of carbon dioxide emission in industrial development. On the other hand, the American and
European Union, the representative of developed countries, argued that developing countries cannot
take the risk of pollution in order to develop its own science and economy; therefore they should take
a large part of responsibility of global climate change. The purposed changed of absolute emission for
America is 4% but for China or Indian is 20% even 40% reduction for 2005 2020. From my
perspective, this is too hard and tough for developing countries to complete. And developed countries
should do better than 4% or 5%.
For developed countries, like the US, some people think that these countries

Police Body Cameras Essay
An increased attention on fatal police encounters and citizen s complains of improper use of force
have led to calls for law enforcement officers to wear body cameras when on duty. In order to improve
policing and police oversight the following recommendations are suggested: 1) Body cameras should
record at all times to increase accountability, 2) Monitoring should be done with a fire alarm approach
to incur effective oversight, 3) Footage must remain private to not decrease police productivity by
over monitoring.
The cameras must be required to be on recording mode when police officers are on duty and when
they respond to calls for service. Further, when activating the camera would slower the application of
force, and when it is unsafe to activating the camera, they police could have the excuse for not
recording. When these special conditions happen, the officer should report clearly the reason for not
recording. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If officers are required to record their interactions with the public, not recording the interaction and
having a complaint filed could incur gravely on their professional future. Because of this, officers will
have an incentive to better perform policing and reduce to a minimum improper behavior that could
lead to complaints against them.
The police body camera is a device with monitoring purpose. The footage provides convenience to the
supervisor to be able to monitor the daily work of the police. As the service provider would store the
footage for at least 5 years per camera, the supervisor could randomly select the record and check for
each police working attitude and manner per day. Through this random police patrol monitoring, the
police would be incentivized to work harder and in a better manner and the problem of police brutality
would be greatly

Cold War Political Cartoon Analysis
In the years spanning the Cold War, government types affected their societies by instilling new foreign
policies, influenced the opposing population s outlook towards communism and democracy through
propaganda, and encouraged the establishment of new industries and trade agreements to support the
war effort. One of the major aspects the government types affected during the Cold War was their
foreign relations. Part of the U.S.S.R. s foreign policy was the fact that they believed that the
capitalists were going to try to spread their practices to nations around the U.S.S.R. which derived
from the fact that throughout the Russian Revolution, several nations, including England and France,
Japan, and the U.S., came into Russia. This mistrust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New conflicts amongst the rising communist nations only helped add fuel to the fire. In light of this,
Eisenhower had made his proposal on the establishment of the industrial military complex . He
assertively advocates this suggestion by situating the necessity for industrialization. This proposal
aimed to help with the defense of America through having a priority of military production. Not only
did this proposal provide jobs to millions but it also helped justify the immense spending towards
national defense that America is known for, even today. However, this idea to increase arms
production did not always have the beneficial effects that had been idealized by these proposals. A
prime example is the downward trend in income growth seen in the Soviet union during the Cold War.
They had also attempted industrialization, since a communist government can only be successful with
financial support. Yet, the Soviet side faced an increase in military spending due to a much more
divided communist world than the democratic capitalists. In Russia, after the rise of the Bolsheviks
and the establishment of the U.S.S.R., Stalin saw the need to gain economic support as Russia simply
could not provide the resources necessary. Before the war really took hold and tensions between the
U.S.S.R. and America were at its height, negotiations between the two sought peaceful trade. The joint

Reflection Paper On Self Check
Every day I perform a self check on myself. I change my routines up, and I always keep a close watch
on my surroundings. I used to leave doors open when I would go directly in and out of my home, but
there is too much crime that takes place to trust people. Any place that used to be a hot spot have been
turned into open view areas. The impractical thing I could ever do is let someone let me be victimized
again, especially when I know not to leave doors unlocked. The one person who has never left me, and
that is God. We have an open door policy.
At one time in my life, I took everything for granted because I never had any altercations with anyone
until one morning I decided I would do some spring cleaning before I went to class. Due to my
negligence, I did not lock the door to my house nor to my shop. When I returned back to my work
shop, I became what criminal justice defines as a victim . Through a lot of counseling and learning I
could not run anymore, I can tell others how to be careful. However, I m particular with whom I talk.
Since I moved back to Mississippi, I am careful in every aspect of my life. I knew what I had to do in
order to reduce the risk of being attacked, and especially protect my grandchildren. Every day I
change my pattern; especially when I travel. Although I used to travel the backroads, they are history.

Generalized Discontinuous PWM for Three Level T NPC Inverters Operating at Low
Modulation Index with Variable Power Factor
Subhadeep Bhattacharya, Student Member, IEEE, Diego Mascarella, Member, IEEE, Geza Joos,
Fellow, IEEE, and Jianhong Xu, Member, IEEE
Abstract Conventional three level discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) techniques are
typically employed in variable frequency drive applications to reduce inverter switching losses and
provide maximum benefit for load power factor angles in the range from 30° lagging to 30° leading.
This paper proposes a series of DPWM templates for lower power factors and a generalized DPWM
strategy for three level T NPC inverters operating with modulation indices lower than 0.5. With a
change in the power factor, the proposed strategy adapts the inverter pulse sequence by combining
different portions of the proposed DPWM templates within one fundamental cycle and ensures
minimum switching instances during transitions. Consequently, the strategy perfectly aligns the no
switching durations of the inverter pulse patterns with the respective load current peaks, achieving a
50% switching loss reduction for all operating power factor angles (90° lagging to 90° leading) at
modulation indices lower than 0.5. The paper provides an analytical evaluation of the proposed
strategy on the three level T NPC inverter switching losses. The simulation and experimental results
demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed three level generalized

Arguments For Scottish Independence
On September 18th, 2014 the people of Scotland voted to stay within the United Kingdom by a 55.5%
vote of the 84.6% turnout (Scotland s Future, 2013). Although a large turnout by voting standards, the
marginal lead of the winning vote was slim. A main argument for Scottish independence was to keep
tax, economic, and social security decisions in the hands of the people whom it affected, the Scottish
people themselves; rather than the Westminster Government who determined those factors for the
whole of the United Kingdom (Scotland s Future, 2014). If Scotland was to become independent from
the United Kingdom, it would be proposed that they would become a part of the European Union as its

Some voters did not understand where Parliament would get their funding, they had distrust in the
First Minister s argument, and their own risk assessment on whether it was worth it or not. The main
consensus for their reason of voting No was that they were united together 300 years previously and
should stay united. There was also a lack of understanding in the reasons for independence. The
demographics of the vote showed that millennials of the sixteen to seventeen age range voted for the
independence of Scotland, 71%. The voting in ages between eighteen and fifty four was almost a fifty
fifty split in the demographic ranges. However when it came to the age group of sixty five and older, a
large 73% voted No. Scottish born residents weren t the only ones allowed to vote. Anyone who
resided in Scotland over the age of sixteen was allowed to vote, which is where approximately
400,000 votes from people of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland came from. The almost 800,000

heritage is more than just the physical site it includes the people (oxford dictionaries). A good HMP

Interconnections between Population Policies in China and Cultural, Historical Perceptions regarding
Sexuality, Reproduction, and Health
Introduction
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Chinese government put in place the One Child Policy in order
to limit the majority of families to one child each and reduce China s population growth rate. In
reality, China s One Child Policy consisted of many one child policies, which were generally better
implemented and stricter in urban areas than in rural areas. Variations of the general one child policy
included allowing the rural families in some areas, families of some ethnic minority groups, families
with handicapped firstborn children, and families with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(100) Because of the sharp drop in fertility rates and rise in longevity since 1980, elderly people
currently constitute a large, growing proportion of China s population. In addition to these
demographic transformations, the human consequences of China s population policies are widespread.
Women forced to undergo abortions and/or sterilizations suffer from emotional trauma, whereas non
firstborn children are undocumented and legally unrecognized by society, lacking access to education,
public services, and employment. In accordance with the goals of state population policies, China s
fertility and birth rates after 1980 have drastically dropped, yet the unforeseen consequences of these
population policies will continue to affect China for many years to come.
Many scholars have researched China s population policies and its consequences. The health effects
from sterilizations and forced abortions have been well investigated.1 The mental health of the first
versus second and third children has also been compared in multiple studies.2 In Just One Child,
Susan Greenhalgh argues that a lack of scientific judgment and input gave rise to the One Child
Policy. However, there is a lack of research into the cultural determinants leading to the development
of China s population policies and the effects that state population policies have had on ideas about
sexuality and sexual health in China.

My Reflection In Writing
There I heard it; the final whistle blew for full time. We worked so hard all season long only to
collapse in the final few minutes. The Massachusetts State Cup was so close. We were so close to
winning the title, and we blew it. Our team took this adversity and used it as motivation to work even
harder for next semester. Every practice following that loss was pure intense work. It ended up paying
out for us in the end, with the following season resulting in regaining the premier title of being state
champions. My team ended up working harder, smarter, and better than the opposition, all because of
us learning from our mistakes. We took what didn t work from the last year s catastrophe, and
improved upon it. The final product was a well oiled machine that demolished every team dumb
enough to face it. In an albeit less dramatic fashion, the process of writing shares bountiful similarities
with a soccer tournament such as the ones I went to. During my journey through Writing 104, I faced
several assignments that resulted in not so stellar grades. This reflection process allows me to go over
these mistakes, and share to all how I fixed them into a much better piece. Writing 104 coached me
through many great pieces, and expanded my knowledge as a writer in so many fields, specifically in
writing effectively, and information literacy. To start off, my time in this class brought many
wonderful moments, allowing me to share my experiences on paper. One such example was my

changed everything the most. Friday night we went to the game together then since he was a year

Cultural Diversity For The Health Care System
The term culture has a very broad definition that encompasses the values, beliefs, customs, religions,
behaviors, traditions and the collective attitudes of a group of people (Williamson Harrison, 2010). In
1971, Canada was one of the first countries in the world to adopt multiculturalism as a national policy
(Government of Canada, 2012). Since then, Canadians have prided themselves on being accepting of
cultural diversity and recognizing equal rights for all citizens, regardless of country of origin
(Government of Canada, 2012). However, cultural diversity presents challenges for the health care
system as people of various cultures have different expectations and requirements of healthcare (De
Miao Kemp, 2010). This is not an issue that is unique to Canada, but one that extends to all countries
which encourage multiculturalism. Indeed it has been found that immigrants often experience
declining health and dissatisfactory medical care compared to the native population due to issues in
language, accessibility, social support, and familiarity with the health care system (Pollock, Newbold,
Lafrenière Edge, 2012; De Miao Kemp, 2010). Therefore, there is an increased emphasis for nurses
and other health care professionals to develop cultural competence. As I will show in this paper,
working in a culturally diverse society requires nurses to adapt their caring strategies to cater to the
cultural needs of their patients. I will then expand on how my own personal experiences

The Political Compass
Politics is intricate and complex, not black or white, therefore deciding where one stands isn t as
simple as being either liberal or conservative . Thus, a more three dimensional approach was created:
The Political Compass. This multifaceted analysis includes not only the traditional economic stance
but a social stance as well. Although someone claims they re a liberal, they might tend towards
communism. With the traditional left or right scale, it would be impossible to know that; The Political
Compass, however, has a dimension for fascism and anarchism along with communism and neo
liberalism which would indicate both the economic scale (communism) and social scale (libertarian).
It is also a more accurate way to determine where certain politicians lie. Take Angela Merkel,
Chancellor of Germany. She s a moderate neo liberalist who is neither full fascist or anarchist. By
understanding her policies and background and comparing her to others on the Political Compass, one
can see that this is, in fact, true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CDU is a liberal conservative party and those apart of it tend to be center right on the traditional
left right scale. According to The Political Compass, Merkel is pulled more towards neo liberalism,
which means that she supports a free market. The CDU implemented Germany s Social Market
Economy, an economy that doesn t want the government to have complete control over prices. This
shows that Merkel is indeed a more neo liberalist than communist. However, Germany s current
economy still has regulations in place that prevent the market from being wholly free, which is why
Merkel cannot be classified as a full neo liberalist. She also grew up in East Germany, the section of
Germany that was a proponent of communism and was a part of the Free German youth, a communist
organization. In the writer s opinion, this proves that Merkel is positioned correctly on the Political

Baptism And Leonardo Da Vinci
The historic figure of Leonardo da Vinci is impossible to underestimate. His genius comprises of a
great variety of talents which show his incredible expertise in such areas of human knowledge and

Leonardo da Vinci was out of the blue for the time he lived and still it is the most versatile and
profound figure for the contemporary people. Leonardo da Vinci is known to live in the epoch of
Renaissance. He was born in Ankiano in 1452, near the village which was called Vinci (Lipton Regan,
2013). His father was a notary. In 1469 he moved to Florence. The first teacher of Leonardo was
Andrea Verrocchio (Atalay, 2011). However, the tendency in art and in outlooks which had been
proper to his teacher were not inherited by da Vinci. The figure of the angel in the painting Baptism
already clearly demonstrates the difference in the perception of the world artists of the past and a new
era of pores: no frontal flatness of Verrocchio, the finest cut off and volume and unusual way of

At the same time, being on time may influence substantially interpersonal relations and it is a perfect
characteristic of an individual. In this respect it should be said that if a person is late, it is a bit
irritating, but if he/she is late regularly, than it is quite a disturbing fact. On the one hand, it proves that
this person do not really respect those people who are waiting for him/her. On the other hand, it proves
that this person is absolutely irresponsible because being late means that the person is unable to do
his/her duties well. In contrast, being on time proves that the person is highly responsible and is ready
to fulfill his/her duty without delay. Such characteristics of an individual are particularly important in
army. At any rate, I, in person, know that I cannot be late because I cannot be late for half an hour or
even less late and just excuse myself and continue my work. In fact, I am conscious of the fact that
even a minute of delay will lead to the failure of the entire operation that, in the military is absolutely
unacceptable. It seems to be obvious that the consequences of the lack of punctuality may lead to
disastrous effects in my work. But I can definitely say that I will lose my job and this will be not the
worst outcome of my lack of punctuality, because in the army the schedule is everything. However,

Air Pollution In The Madison Area
Madison, the south central, mid sized city in Wisconsin is defined by its five major lakes, a beautiful
rural side and a lively metropolitan area of about 578,000 (Madison Population 2016). Madison spills

speaking, Madison was home to the Winnebago Native American Tribe (Madison: History n.d.). The
surrounding lakes made the area a convenient place to settle. Around 1829, a man named James Doty
bought surrounding land to pave a grid of streets. He was to make Madison, named after the fourth

Theme Of The Wife Of His Youth
The Wife of His Youth is an 1898 historical fiction short story by author Charles W. Chesnutt. Charles
Chestnutt is the first African American writer to use folklore in series literature. He was born in
Cleveland, Ohio on June 20, 1858, but spent most of his childhood in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Growing up in the south had a lasting impact on him, in that it furnished rich material for his fiction.
Therefore, it is not surprising that Chestnutt s characters, settings, scenes and institutions reflect North
Carolina s culture. As a creative writer blossoming in the 1880s, Chesnutt believed that he could use
folklore to stem the tide of racist thinking depicted by the plantation school writers, such as Thomas
Nelson Page and others, who wrote of slavery as a benevolent system. However, by 1905, Chestnutt
realized that fiction was not the route to bring America around to treating African Americans with the
same respect as whites. Consequently, with this realization Chestnutt became a fighter against
discrimination with his voice. He made speeches and wrote essays against all kinds of discrimination
(Young). In his short story The Wife of His Youth , Chesnutt combines the themes of racial identity
and colorism to create the conflict at the center of the story. The prose introduces the readers to a man

Vitamin C Investigation
Aim: I want to find out whether the concentration of Vitamin C in Golden Circle Pineapple juice
changes over time.
Hypothesis: My hypothesis for this investigation will argue that the Vitamin C level in Golden Circle

Chemical information and safety surrounding the use of these substances.
Previous scientific work: CHEEKY NANDOS
Vitamin C: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water soluble vitamin, which is needed by the body to form
collagen in bones, cartilage, muscle, and blood vessels. Dietary sources of vitamin C include fruits and
vegetables, particularly citrus fruits such as oranges.
Severe deficiency of vitamin C is known to cause scurvy. Many uses for vitamin C have been
proposed, but evidence of benefit in scientific studies is lacking. In particular, research on asthma,
cancer, and diabetes remains inconclusive, and a lack of benefit has been found for the prevention of
cataracts or heart disease.
The use of vitamin C in the prevention or treatment of colds remains controversial. Extensive research
has been conducted. Overall, vitamin C lacked an effect on the development of colds and on cold
symptoms. However, the duration of the cold shortened slightly. Notably, people living in extreme
circumstances, including soldiers in the subarctic, skiers, and marathon runners, had a 50% decrease
in the risk of developing a cold. This area merits additional research and may be of particular interest

The Monuments Men Rhetorical Analysis

destruction is one of the first things that comes to mind, the spread of hatred and complete cities in
ruins is another point of reference. However, who and what survived the war is often forgotten and
merely mentioned at the fore front of discussions. Robert M. Edsel s The Monuments Men tells the
story of nine men and one woman who set out to preserve and rescue works of art that had been taken
by the Nazi regime throughout Europe. Without the brave and rigorous work of these characters,

a Mars colony of one hundred people for one year? A second question is, Is there a way to reduce the

HYPOTHESIS
My hypothesis is that the easiest, cheapest, and most sustainable source of water on Mars will be
filtration of urine. Scientists have already proved that this will work in space on the International

be proven on earth before going to mars. It also will need to be made a more simple process.
Additionally it will need to be safe to do within a building. The oxygen and hydrogen would also need

The Pros And Cons Of Universal Hearing Screening
In 1993, the average age for identification of a hearing impairment in the United States was
approximately three years old (NIH, 1993). Consequently, the first three years of a child s life are
most important for speech and language development and, therefore, are crucial years for detecting
hearing loss. Without an ability to hear, children lack proper development of speech and language.
Therefore, a lack of efficacy in previous infant hearing screening protocols fueled innovation of
universal newborn hearing screenings. These universal hearing screening methods were the first to

previous protocols which paved a path for new protocols and ... Show more content on

The first step in infant screening involved dividing newborns based on high risk criteria (HRC)(JCIH,
1990). Even though HRC was a cost effective means of attempting to rule out hearing loss, it lacked
sensitivity (NIH, 1993). Low sensitivity caused hospitals to miss approximately 50% of newborns
with hearing impairments. Second, newborns identified with one or more HRC were tested using
auditory brainstem response (ABR)(JCIH, 1990). Negative ABR results dismissed the child while
positive results required further diagnostic testing. Protocols in 1990 required administration of ABR
testing by at least three months and no later than six months old. This allowed delayed ABR testing
and increased post hospital discharge testing. Delays in ABR testing usually resulted in later
identification of hearing impairment (approximately three years old) thus, affected speech and
language development of children with hearing loss. Likewise, incorporation of protocols detecting
delayed onset hearing loss in newborns are also necessary for speech and language development.
However, such protocols were nonexistent in previous hearing screening procedures (JCIH,

  • 2. Napoleon s Enlightened Policies While expanding his empire, Napoleon promoted certain enlightened ideologies; however, Napoleon s self glorification corrupted his enlightened principles. Napoleon s military and political success undoubtedly established him as the ultimate despot, but the prominence of Napoleon s self exaltation hindered his progress as an enlightened figure. Napoleon s actions politically and militarily were all fueled by his insatiable desire to self exalt. Napoleon was assuredly the greatest ruler of his time, but his need to self glorify undermined his enlightened policies. Napoleon promoted numerous policies which reflected an enlightened perspective. Within the Napoleonic Code. Napoleon supported equality for all men under the law, which is a concept ... Napoleon even wrote, My power proceeds my reputation, and my reputation from the victories I have won. My power would fall if I were not to support it with more glory and more victories. Conquest has made me what I am; only conquest will maintain me. Friendship is only a word; I love nobody; no not even my brothers. (Sherman 76). • 3. God s Principles Of God God designed nature so meticulously perfect that His imprint is obvious in every living thing. Some scientists want to explain away God. Steven Hawking, once an advocate of belief, in God, suddenly changed his mind. He stated that science offers a more convincing explanation for the origins of the universe, and that the miracles of religion aren t compatible with scientific fact. Although very unreasonable, this change of heart exhibits one of God s basic gifts to the human race: free choice. God will not force people to accept Him. Creationists and evolutionists will argue about the beginning of mankind until the end of mankind. There have been many famous scientists whose works have included God. Nicholas Copernicus, Sir Francis Bacon, and Galileo Galilei, to name a few, believed whole heartedly in a higher being. Although there are many more scientists that align themselves with faith, it seems the more educated a person is, the more likely they are not to believe in God. The human ego wants to believe that we are the center of the universe. It believes we are in control and superior to all things. People called evolutionists are consumed with ego which is an acronym for Edging God Out. They make observations and come to conclusions, but refuse to see the obvious fact: that without God as the mastermind of creation, nature would not exist in harmony. We do not exist by chance. Einstein s famous epithet on the uncertainty principle was God does not play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Cupcake Craft As we started to approach the tall brick building filled with various activities, we could see the endless crowds of people gathering around the front doors. Starting to get upon the tip of my toes, I was startled by my mother who leaped in front of the four of my cousins and I. Smile, darlings! my mother ordered. She reached for the camera around her neck as we groaned and wrapped our arms around each other. She snapped the photo with a click of her finger. Perfect! Opening the doors to the craft room, the smell of fresh paint instantly filled our nostrils. Every year before Summer came to an end, my mother would take my cousins and I to a museum called Grounds For Sculpture . This year was definitely a trip that stood out from the ... I was jumping with joy I spotted this luscious bright purple and squeezed it, popping the cap off and hitting my other younger cousin, Joe directly in the face. I couldn t hold it in and started to laugh hysterically. Hey! Joe blurted. He turned around with a green squirt bottle in his hands. Take this! I felt a hard bump on my chest as if someone had just punched me. I looked down to see green paint splattered all over my shirt. I tilted my head up to see my mom with a look of horror on her face as if she had just witnessed a murder. All of us had our jaws dropped wide open, except for Joe, he looked like any second now he would start exploding with laughter. What has gotten into you two? my mother questioned with frustration. She brought me into the bathroom and started digging through her purse. She pulled out an extra T shirt that was plain black. How did you My mother cut me off before I could finish. I know you guys too well to not be prepared for this. I put on the new shirt that my mother had packed and we walked back to our craft table. I noticed that Amy was using the purple I wanted and that it was close to being empty. Hey! Don t use it all! Kind of too late, don t you think? Amy replied with a tone of sass. Before I was about to say anything, the lady from before walked up to us. Just a reminder, finish up because the activity building is closing in 3 minutes! the lady exclaimed. I ... () Starting in the 1970s as a harmless swim in the ocean followed by a few days of enjoying what the Gold Coast has to offer, Schoolies week has evolved into a multi million dollar industry (), that involves a mass amount of risk taking behaviour executed by a mass amount of eager school leavers. Kurtz whole purpose in the novel was to collect ivory and he was the best at it, but his time in Africa was detrimental to his character, which is why he deserves this roast. His time in Africa authorized him to enslave and kill many natives of the Congo, which makes him a despicable character in all, but it is his greediness and cowardice to do the right thing that makes him an awful human being. Pearl questioned the whole town for their bigoted values by asking her mother why she had to wear the scarlet letter but not her father. In fact, she was the only person that called Dimmesdale out for his hypocrisy and cowardly behavior. Some short term effects of alcohol abuse are the reduction of tension, production of pleasurable affects, as well as slowed thinking and memory loss. Studies also show poor decision making to be a short term effect of alcohol consumption. Some long term effects are psychological deterioration as well as a physical deterioration. Just about every organ is adversely affected by the long term consumption of alcohol. • 9. Importance Of Political Egalitarianism Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have equal conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of political equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio professional categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with different economic situations participate in the society, specifically whether they try to help to solve problems in the community if they ask help from government officials and etc. It also examines other factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election, and believe that politicians listen to the needs of people. Many studies on different countries have established that the greater economic status of the individuals corresponds to greater political participation. Responsibility For Carbon Emission Reduction Chengning Li English 131 L May 14th, 2014 Responsibility for Carbon Emission Reduction Nowadays, climate change has become an increasingly crucial problem for the whole world. To figure out this problem, the United Nations holds an annual climate summit which discusses how to respond to global climate change, and promote world wide actions to promote the progress of Copenhagen and Kyoto Protocol. In the Copenhagen conference, 2009, a framework for climate change migration beyond 2012 was to be agreed. As we all known, there was a series of intense conversations between developed countries and developing countries about the carbon dioxide emission cup for each country. On one hand, BASIC countries, the representative of developing countries, held that they were developing and needed large amount of carbon dioxide emission in industrial development. On the other hand, the American and European Union, the representative of developed countries, argued that developing countries cannot take the risk of pollution in order to develop its own science and economy; therefore they should take a large part of responsibility of global climate change. The purposed changed of absolute emission for America is 4% but for China or Indian is 20% even 40% reduction for 2005 2020. From my perspective, this is too hard and tough for developing countries to complete. And developed countries should do better than 4% or 5%. One of the major aspects the government types affected during the Cold War was their foreign relations. Part of the U.S.S.R. s foreign policy was the fact that they believed that the capitalists were going to try to spread their practices to nations around the U.S.S.R. which derived from the fact that throughout the Russian Revolution, several nations, including England and France, Japan, and the U.S., came into Russia. Not only did this proposal provide jobs to millions but it also helped justify the immense spending towards national defense that America is known for, even today. However, this idea to increase arms production did not always have the beneficial effects that had been idealized by these proposals. A prime example is the downward trend in income growth seen in the Soviet union during the Cold War. They had also attempted industrialization, since a communist government can only be successful with financial support. Yet, the Soviet side faced an increase in military spending due to a much more divided communist world than the democratic capitalists. This paper proposes a series of DPWM templates for lower power factors and a generalized DPWM strategy for three level T NPC inverters operating with modulation indices lower than 0.5. With a change in the power factor, the proposed strategy adapts the inverter pulse sequence by combining different portions of the proposed DPWM templates within one fundamental cycle and ensures minimum switching instances during transitions. Consequently, the strategy perfectly aligns the no switching durations of the inverter pulse patterns with the respective load current peaks, achieving a 50% switching loss reduction for all operating power factor angles (90° lagging to 90° leading) at modulation indices lower than 0.5. Every practice following that loss was pure intense work. It ended up paying out for us in the end, with the following season resulting in regaining the premier title of being state champions. My team ended up working harder, smarter, and better than the opposition, all because of us learning from our mistakes. We took what didn t work from the last year s catastrophe, and improved upon it. The final product was a well oiled machine that demolished every team dumb enough to face it. In an albeit less dramatic fashion, the process of writing shares bountiful similarities with a soccer tournament such as the ones I went to. This reflection process allows me to go over these mistakes, and share to all how I fixed them into a much better piece. Writing 104 coached me through many great pieces, and expanded my knowledge as a writer in so many fields, specifically in writing effectively, and information literacy. To start off, my time in this class brought many wonderful moments, allowing me to share my experiences on paper. One such example was my favorite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Cultural Diversity For The Health Care System The term culture has a very broad definition that encompasses the values, beliefs, customs, religions, behaviors, traditions and the collective attitudes of a group of people (Williamson Harrison, 2010). In 1971, Canada was one of the first countries in the world to adopt multiculturalism as a national policy (Government of Canada, 2012). Since then, Canadians have prided themselves on being accepting of cultural diversity and recognizing equal rights for all citizens, regardless of country of origin (Government of Canada, 2012). However, cultural diversity presents challenges for the health care system as people of various cultures have different expectations and requirements of healthcare (De Miao Kemp, 2010). This is not an issue that is unique to Canada, but one that extends to all countries which encourage multiculturalism. Indeed it has been found that immigrants often experience declining health and dissatisfactory medical care compared to the native population due to issues in language, accessibility, social support, and familiarity with the health care system (Pollock, Newbold, Lafrenière Edge, 2012; De Miao Kemp, 2010). Therefore, there is an increased emphasis for nurses and other health care professionals to develop cultural competence. As I will show in this paper, working in a culturally diverse society requires nurses to adapt their caring strategies to cater to the cultural needs of their patients. I will then expand on how my own personal experiences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, a more three dimensional approach was created: The Political Compass. This multifaceted analysis includes not only the traditional economic stance but a social stance as well. Although someone claims they re a liberal, they might tend towards communism. With the traditional left or right scale, it would be impossible to know that; The Political Compass, however, has a dimension for fascism and anarchism along with communism and neo liberalism which would indicate both the economic scale (communism) and social scale (libertarian). It is also a more accurate way to determine where certain politicians lie. Take Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany. She s a moderate neo liberalist who is neither full fascist or anarchist. By understanding her policies and background and comparing her to others on the Political Compass, one can see that this is, in fact, true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to The Political Compass, Merkel is pulled more towards neo liberalism, which means that she supports a free market. The CDU implemented Germany s Social Market Economy, an economy that doesn t want the government to have complete control over prices. This shows that Merkel is indeed a more neo liberalist than communist. However, Germany s current economy still has regulations in place that prevent the market from being wholly free, which is why Merkel cannot be classified as a full neo liberalist. She also grew up in East Germany, the section of Germany that was a proponent of communism and was a part of the Free German youth, a communist organization. • 32. Theme Of The Wife Of His Youth The Wife of His Youth is an 1898 historical fiction short story by author Charles W. Chesnutt. Charles Chestnutt is the first African American writer to use folklore in series literature. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 20, 1858, but spent most of his childhood in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Growing up in the south had a lasting impact on him, in that it furnished rich material for his fiction. Therefore, it is not surprising that Chestnutt s characters, settings, scenes and institutions reflect North Carolina s culture. As a creative writer blossoming in the 1880s, Chesnutt believed that he could use folklore to stem the tide of racist thinking depicted by the plantation school writers, such as Thomas Nelson Page and others, who wrote of slavery as a benevolent system. However, by 1905, Chestnutt realized that fiction was not the route to bring America around to treating African Americans with the same respect as whites. Consequently, with this realization Chestnutt became a fighter against discrimination with his voice. He made speeches and wrote essays against all kinds of discrimination (Young). Consequently, the first three years of a child s life are most important for speech and language development and, therefore, are crucial years for detecting hearing loss. Without an ability to hear, children lack proper development of speech and language. The first step in infant screening involved dividing newborns based on high risk criteria (HRC)(JCIH, 1990). Even though HRC was a cost effective means of attempting to rule out hearing loss, it lacked sensitivity (NIH, 1993). Low sensitivity caused hospitals to miss approximately 50% of newborns with hearing impairments. Second, newborns identified with one or more HRC were tested using auditory brainstem response (ABR)(JCIH, 1990). Negative ABR results dismissed the child while positive results required further diagnostic testing. Protocols in 1990 required administration of ABR testing by at least three months and no later than six months old. This allowed delayed ABR testing and increased post hospital discharge testing. Delays in ABR testing usually resulted in later identification of hearing impairment (approximately three years old) thus, affected speech and language development of children with hearing loss. Likewise, incorporation of protocols detecting delayed onset hearing loss in newborns are also necessary for speech and language development.
