Biblical Book Of Job Depression
In today s society, depression has become a broad term that often gets thrown around in multiple
different contexts. However, depression is a serious concern that is diagnosable and can lead to
several complications. In 2011, it was found that while 10.7 percent of U.S. college students were
diagnosed or treated for depression, up to 50 percent of college students are vulnerable to
developing symptoms of depression while attending school (Egbert, Miraldi, Murniadi 460).
Although depression has remained a concern among mental health professionals for decades, there
is still a lot to learn about how to treat and prevent this illness. One of the earliest discussions
regarding depression can be found in the Biblical Book of Job, composed... Show more content on

Although most people have heard of depression, very few people can depict its symptoms and
effective treatment methods. The Book of Job appears to be one of the earliest works of
literature regarding depression. Kapusta and Frank discuss a number of reasons why Job
appears to be depressed ranging from his dysphoric mood to his poor appetite, restlessness, and
reduced sexual drive. Although Job may have been depressed, he was able to overcome his
depression through support from Elihu and God. Kapusta and Frank s portrayal of Job as a
depressed person who is comforted by Elihu is effective for today s reader as it teaches people
the importance of looking out for their friends. Furthermore, Job teaches us that just because
someone is suffering, it does not mean that the person deserves what is happening to them. On
the other hand, Kapusta and Frank s portrayal of Job is also effective for modern readers who are
experiencing depression, since the Book of Job shows that despite Job s depression, he did not
give up on his life. For instance, in Job 2:10, Job says we receive good at the hand of God, and
shall we not receive evil meaning that God does not will evil on us (King James Version). The
Book of Job is an important reading since it teaches us that either we or someone we know will
suffer at some point. However, just because we are suffering it does not mean we should have to go
through it

The Mission Of Apollo 11
On July 20, 1969, humanity did itself proud in spite of all its wars, sadism, hatred, and insanity. We
set foot on another planet. Men walked on the moon. This changed our belief in what we could
accomplish.
On July 20, 1969, the lunar module landed. Humanity did itself proud on that day. Until now
nothing this big had ever been accomplished. The dream of traveling to the moon was already
centuries old when the second World War ended in 1945. The primary objective of Apollo 11was to
complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed
lunar landing and return to Earth. Apollo 11 would be the mission to achieve the goal that
President Kennedy had laid down, with more than five months to spare before the end of decade
deadline. On July 19, after Apollo 11 had flown behind the moon out of contact with Earth, came
the first lunar orbit insertion maneuver. At about 75 hours, 50 minutes into the flight, a
retrograde firing of the SPS for 357.5 seconds placed the spacecraft into an initial, elliptical lunar
orbit of 69 by 190 miles. Later, a second burn of the SPS for 17 seconds placed the docked
vehicles into a lunar orbit of 62 by 70.5 miles, which was calculated to change the orbit of the
CSM piloted by Collins. The change happened because of lunar gravity perturbations to the nominal
69 miles required for subsequent LM rendezvous and docking after completion of the lunar landing.
Before this second SPS firing, another TV transmission was

The Mermaid In The Old Man And The Sea
A butterfly emerges from its chrysalis in an entirely new form, now a lightweight and beautifully
patterned insect in contrast to the plump caterpillar it once was. Soon, it expands its wings and
takes off. The butterfly is only supplied with its wings to lift itself up into the air and explore. This
species has evolved to endure the many obstacles it has encountered throughout its existence.
Similarly, we as intelligent human beings must continue to adjust to the new situations we are
thrown into unexpectedly as nature perpetuates survival of the fittest. In The Old Man and the Sea,
Santiago has many regrets after thinking of what might have happened differently if he had the
right tools. He thinks to himself, You should have brought many things...But you did not bring
them, old man. Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with
what there is. In these circumstances in which he is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The past cannot be changed, and this fact resonates with me deeply. In my life, I continue to
attempt to fix every mistake that I have made before it is too late, and when I can t, it
discourages me. I have made it a habit to regularly overthink things in order to catch any mistakes
I might be making. This has led to me only trusting myself to do important things, because I
believe that only I have the ability to create things that will measure up to my definition of
perfection. However, there are many moments and things we cannot control, and this quotation has
reminded me of that. This quotation has led me to realize that ultimately, what we have the most
control over is the future. We will make mistakes, and will never stop doing so. Instead of
panicking when we don t know what to do or how to do something, we must compose ourselves
and use our minds to their full advantages. This is what differentiates us from the fish in the

Franklin Delano Roosevelt s Four Freedoms
Franklin Delano Roosevelt s Four Freedoms speech, given on January 6, 1941, provided
rationale behind his idea that the United States needed to abandon isolationist policies. This
speech provided the basis for the civil liberties that different groups of people would fight for
during the next seventy years as well as context for America s involvement in foreign affairs
regarding democracy. The Four Freedoms FDR listed were as follows: freedom of speech,
freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. In Alan Brinkley s biography of
FDR, he discussed how FDR expanded the role of the government and became a strong leader and
protector of the welfare of American People, creating programs to expand and stimulate the
economy, unite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to these threats, the United States took severe measures to spread democratic ideals to other
countries, however in the attempt to prevent a WWIII, democratic practices often produced
antidemocratic outcomes according to Suri. Some of these antidemocratic strategies included
containment and the Truman Doctrine, which aimed to prevent the spread of communism to
Eastern Europe and Asia. As president, Ronald Reagan promised to cut the budget, reduce taxes,
trim the bureaucracy, revive America, and subdue the Soviets, ultimately leading to the collapse of
the Soviet Union. Although the Civil Rights Movement arose in the sixties, nuclear development
continued and by 1970 there were more than 25,000 nuclear weapons in the world (Borstelmann

of being American. Whether it the fear is domestic or internationally related, American s face fears
ranging from not obtaining their basic civil rights to what seems to be the constant threat of
terrorist attacks. The United States interest in spreading democracy to other nations and aiding in
foreign affairs is ultimately for the protection of the freedoms of the countries

Andrew Jackson Message Regarding Indian Relations Summary
Rhetoric of Message Regarding Indian Relations ; Andrew Jackson Unwrapped
When one hears the name Andrew Jackson, there are many feelings that are conjured up by an
individual. Some of these emotions include fear, disgust, and comedy. These sentiments are of
reason for substantial evidence exists to prove these emotions plausible. Andrew Jackson was the
seventh president under the Constitution of the United States of America who presided from 1829
until 1837. However, he was the first president to be impeached. With his controversial presidency,
Andrew Jackson implemented many policies that continue to impact the United States in the
modern era. His most controversial contribution was the Indian Removal Act. The Indian Removal
Act prompted the infamous Trail of Tears that killed many CherokeeNative Americans and moved
them westward to confined reservations. Of course, to implement such grand policy, Jackson had to
unduly convince Congress of those actions. In Andrew Jackson s speech given February 22nd,
1831 entitled Message Regarding Indian Relations, he tries to vindicate the Indian Removal Act,
outline the benefits of such legislation, and explain why such it was indeed important. Rhetorical
strategies such as ethos, pathos, and logos are effectively utilized by Jackson to persuade Congress
to believe in the merits of upholding the Indian Removal Act which then lead to westward
expansion and Native American migration from their homelands.

Gender Differences In Blood Flow
As she approached him from the opposite side of the room, he almost knew that everyone in the
building could hear his heart thumping in his chest. His collar was tightening around his neck. He
felt as if every twitch in his body was amplified as she wrapped her arms around him. They

The male, in response to sexual stimuli, approaches the first phase of Masters and Johnson sexual
response cycle, the excitement phase. The femalewould have the similar reaction. However, there
would also be differences as well. Blood flow would be increased to the abdominal portions for
both male and female. However, this increased blood flow would create different environments for
both. For example, the male would have an increase in blood flow to the penis, which would cause
constriction in the blood vessels to form an erection. The female would have an increase in blood
flow to the labia minora, majora, and further causing transduction, or increased vaginal lubrication.

heart rate, and labored breathing. However, the body prepares for the next phase. The penis
becomes fully erect, and the testes move closer to the body cavity (Green, 2014, p162). The female
organs go through their own metamorphosis. The clitoris withdraws underneath the clitoral hood.
The vagina opens at the upper portion of the vaginal canal, creating a vessel to collect sperm. This

Libertarianism Persuasive Speech
Four hours into my first Libertarian National Convention I wandered into a crowded hotel suite
filled with sweaty young men drinking Carlo Rossi and found myself face to face with John
McAfee, internet pioneer, Libertarian candidate for president and former international fugitive. One
thing led to another, and soon I was asking him a rather direct question: Had he killed a man?
It wasn t something I d expected to address, not least because political journalists are often
resigned to the fact that their access to a candidate will be restricted by any number of
communications aides, but Libertarians have no such norms. As Starchild a San Francisco based
activist and erotic services provider, dressed one day in a Speedo and a see through raincoat ... Show

recently described himself to a crowd of the faithful, might be able to take your weekly meeting that

I think 30 million people here are up for grabs that are probably Libertarian; it s that they just don t
know it, he said to me.
In other words, Gary Johnson is looking to make libertarianism normal. In the year of Trump,
Bernie Sanders and flipping the system the bird, he might just have a shot. Still, it all depends on
how weird Americans are willing to let things get.
Johnson, 63, hasn t even been a Libertarian all that long. He was a Republican when he served as
New Mexico s governor from 1994 to 2003, but he switched party affiliations in late 2011 and won
the 2012 Libertarian nomination for president. Along with his running mate Judge Jim Gray,

The Metamorphosis Theme
The Metamorphosis by Kafka presents readers with an intensely claustrophobic and absurd
premise featuring a protagonist that is so used to living like an insect and so consumed with guilt
that these elements of his life finally take over and lead to his demise. In this world Kafka creates,
Gregor lives like an insecteven before his metamorphosis and this theme is developed at the
beginning of the story when he wakes up to find that he has become what he most resembled in his
life.
The idea of guilt and scurrying about to please others figures prominently in this text and it is
useful to look at the ways in which a compounding sense of guilt leads to Gregor s final resignation
to death in Kafka s short story, The Metamorphosis. For a man ... Show more content on

His fate, it seems, is to provide for his family and there are several instances in which he laments
his inability to provide for his mother, father, and dear sister. The narrator states, revealing one
of these themes in The Metamorphosis , Gregor s sole desire was to do his utmost to help the
family to forget as soon as possible the catastrophe which had overwhelmed the business and
thrown them all into a state of complete despair (95) and this sense of blind duty compels him to
work a meaningless, menial job that has both figuratively and literally turned him into a filthy,
scuttling, and helpless insect. While this is true on a more basic level, the root of Gregor s
problem stems from a deep seated feeling of guilt, an emotion that eventually leads to his
demise. By the end of the story, Gregor has completely lost his purpose and for a man that once
existed simply as a utilitarian creature (again, like an insect since he lives only to fulfill his duty
to the group). At one point, his feelings of uselessness are described as, Gregor was now cut off
from his mother, who was perhaps nearly dying because of him; he dared not open the door for
fear of frightening his sister, who had to stay with her mother, there was nothing he could do but
wait; and harassed by self reproach and worry he began to crawl to and fro (109) and it is clear
that the guilt of being useless is mounting and leading to his resignation in the face of

The Grimm Brothers And The Brothers
Throughout history, many stories are handed down generation to generation. When the brothers,
Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, started to publish a different type of story that depicted ordinary
characters that overcame tough situations through supernatural and violent means, it caught
attention among the people. These stories portrayed characters that not only possessed abnormal
characteristics, but also had the lives of their adversaries end rather abruptly. The Grimm brothers
collected extensively on fairy tales depicting violent behavior that were directed to be read to the
children of that time which in turn gave a whole new meaning the term fairy tale.
In a 2012 article, Cavendish provides some basic information regarding the Grimm brothers
various works. Their first published volume of Kinder und Hausmärchen was released in 1812,
which included a total of 86 short stories. They then went on to release a second volume in 1814
and gathered an additional 70 stories to incorporate. Eventually, many more editions were published
and after including additional stories as well as subtracting some, the translated English version
became known as Grimm s Fairy Tales (p. 8).
Short stories often begin with the death of another human being. Using Cinderella as an example,
Cinderella mourns when her mother tragically dies early on in the story. In a 2000 article, Hohr
discusses how one of the main problems that Cinderella has to face is the loss of her mother and
how she is going to

The advantages of using the microcontroller is the reduction of the cost and also the use of extra
hardware such as the use of timer RAM and ROM can be avoided. This technology is very fast so
controlling of multiple parameters is possible; also the parameters are field programmable by the
user. The electrical engineering and its applications are the oldest streams of Engineering. Though
these systems are quite reliable and cheaper, it has certain disadvantages. The electro mechanical
protection relays are too bulky and needs regular maintenance. The multifunctional is out of
question. Recently, the technical revolution made embedded technology cheaper, so that it can be
applied to all the fields.

Decision-Making Models Essay
Decision Making Models
General assumptions create the foundation of a person s reasoning. Imperfections with a
supposition can create the opportunity for a skewed perspective in a person s reasoning process
(Paul Elder, 2002). The process of choosing one course of action over another is commonly
known as decision making. Consciously or unconsciously, people make decisions on a daily basis
founded on one or more of the various decision making models (Sullivan, n.d.). This paper
examines how I apply various decision making models in the workplace to generate accurate
workload estimations in my career.

I normally make use of the parametric model when estimating a large project. I look at one piece
of the project and create an estimate of the level of effort needed to complete the piece, and
multiply the estimate by the number of pieces that comprise the project. When I bid the creation
of the initial website for the aforementioned client, I determined there would be only two Web
pages requiring Active Server Pages (ASP) programming due to database interaction; the
remaining 20 pages could be coded using static Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and
JavaScript. Drawing on parametric model I estimated the time needed to code a single HTML
page and multiplied that estimate by 20. I created individual time estimates for the 2 ASP pages
due to the unique nature of the pages. The total estimate delivered was approximately 30 hours.
As of late, my supervisor has encouraged me to begin using the PERT technique to provide a more
accurate time estimate. The formula used to calculate the PERT is: ((realistic * 4) + pessimistic +
optimistic) / 6. Using the 30 hour estimate issued to the aforementioned client and accounting for
every situation that could create difficulties, I created a pessimistic estimate of 47 hours. Assuming
flawless execution with no complications, I have created an optimistic estimate of 25 hours. The
PERT formula calculates the estimated level of effort at 32 hours.

Steroids In The Film Bigger, Stronger
In the documentary Bigger, Stronger, Faster it covers the choice to use, or not use steroids in
the lives of three brothers. The middle brother Chris describes his personal choices not to use
steroids, while his younger brother, Smelly, does use, and so does his old brother, Mad Dog.
Both of Chris s brothers are breaking the norm, and participating in both formal, and informal
deviance. Even though deviance occurs of both side of normality, his brothers are
overconforming. The oldest brother, Mad Dog, has such a strong sport ethic, he refuses to give
up on his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Mad Dog has such a low self esteem that he
feels the only way to be successful, and gain respect is to make it as a wrestler. He was not
happy working for his father selling insurance, because it was not his dream. So he did whatever
he could to still maintain his life in the sports world, because it was so exhilarating he would do
anything to stay involved. Mad Dog used steroids, wrestled at any events he could, and
continuously sent in tapes to the WWE to audition for a role. Still none of this was enough to make
it big. At the end of the documentary he was shown moving to LA, where he thought that would be

History and Development iPhone s history began when Steve Jobs instructed Apple Inc s top
engineers to investigate touch screens and create the iPhone. The development of this device started
nearly a decade before it came to the markets in 2007. In 1999, Apple acquired the rights to the

Criticism
The iPhone has been so well received device by the public because it provides innovative and
revolutionary technology. But this doesn t imply that it s immune to criticism. It has been openly
criticized by consumers and industry professionals for its poor battery life. The JD Power and
Associate consumer satisfaction survey gave Apple a low grade on battery life. In response, Apple
started replacing the malfunctioning batteries for free. Most recently, consumers have been
complaining about the iPhone s antenna problem. The metal bands surrounding the iPhone 4 also
act as antennas for reception. When the user grips the phone towards the bottom, it drops the
signal. Steve Jobs has responded to this problem by offering free bumper cases to iPhone 4 users.
Impact of the iPhone
The iPhone is the most innovative phone of all time. It s a trendsetter. Whenever a new iPhone
model hits the market, hundreds of buyers stand outside cellular stores waiting for hours to get
their hands on the device. It is a remarkable, all in one technological device geared towards the
general public and it is still hugely popular.

The Issue Of Child Marriage Essay
Child marriage is one of the hardest things a teenage child could face. It is basically a violation
of children s human rights. It is strictly prohibited by international law. Early marriage takes
away the girls right to make important decisions about their sexual health and well being.
Historically, patriarchal societies have marginalized women in various aspects across the world.
Women disenfranchisement, in this way, is not a new phenomenon. However, with the passage
of time women have been able to claim their rights and are seen at par with men in many
developed societies. But the misfortune still persists in many parts of the world. Many societies
still fail to see woman as fully human and fail to appreciate their role in the building of society. As
a result, women are still subject to grave injustice in many societies and such societies also suffer
from underdevelopment for minimal role of women in their development. Nepal is a country where
women suffer from the issue of Child or Early Marriages . This is a century s long practice in Nepal
and unfortunately nothing significant has appeared in form of tangible indicators that indicate the
improvement in this grave scenario. International community and NGOs are working on this issue

Tom And Bob Can Appoint Carl As A Replacement For Tom
The first issue is whether Tom and Bob can appoint Carl as a replacement for Tom. In order to
execute this function, it must first be determined whether Tom and Bob are still legitimate trustees
given their current circumstances. The appointment of trustees will be made where a new trust is
created either inter vivos or by will; and during the continuance for an existing trustwhereby one
trusteemay seek to retire. On the death of a trustee, the remnants are given to the survivors to
carry on the trust. Section 18(1) of the Trustee Act 1925 (UK) provides that where a power or
trust is given to or imposed on two or more trustees jointly, the same may be exercised or
performed by the survivors or survivor of them for the time being. Further, s. 48 (1) of the
Trinidad and Tobago Trustee Act provides that the appointment of a new trustee are outside of the
realms of a court and the execution is done by persons expressed in the trust instrument , or by the
surviving trustees or by the survivor s personal representative. Thus, Tom and Bob may have the
power under the common law or Trinidadian statute to appoint Carl. However, there may also be
the sub issue of whether Tom has the competence to make the appointment of a new trustee. Section

The Symbolism Of Evil In Dracula By Bram Stoker

stakes during his reign of terror from 1456 1460. Vlad created forrest of the impaled. one would
think upon seeing hundreds of people impaled on wooden stakes, that one would be horrified
and traumatized, and that is exactly what happened to the Turks and the Ottomans. They were
stricken with fear and this was a great advantage to Vlad and Romania. In present day, the
romanian military historian Mircea Dogaru argues that Vlad was the first walachian to adopt
psychological warfare. He crushed the morale of the Turks through his method of torture:
burning oil, mutilation, decapitation. In one campaign alone he killed 24,000 and built a
pyramid of decapitated heads. from this you can tell that vlad really did know how to scare
someone straight. After this stunt the turks and ottomans alike were much more cautious and
aware of vlads capabilities. Not only were whole other countries intimidated by vlad, his own
people were on their knees. Though vlad was cruel, he was fair to his people and when they came
complaining about the corrupt commissioners, ... He slipped pebbles into their food, and as soon as

The Underlying Message Essay
The Underlying Message
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is not specifically about orthodox Zen Buddhist
practice nor does if specifically teaches how to repair a motorcycle. It does, however, dig into the
inner structure of the thought process to form a foundation to support any form of logic. This is
accomplished by means of a trek through the author s mind as he recounts his past in attempt to
rediscover who he once was. As the author comes to term with his duality, the reader is conditioned
to understand the author s philosophical ideas, which are the underlying beams of his value system.
Pirsig presents his message through lectures to the reader. These lectures are comprised of history,
philosophy, and common sense. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are they really needed to judge a student s progress, or do they just blind the student from the true
objective of learning? To answer the question an experiment was conducted which in return raised
more questions and experiments. The focus went from the class reaction to a particular student and
from the student to an assignment. Ultimately, the assignment, an essay about the town where the
student resided, focused upon a single brick in a single building of the town.
From the preceding episode Pirsig demonstrated how a complex problem could be solved
systematically. More importantly, he also showed how one must be led to understanding and that it
cannot be merely preached. In the case of the individual student, she could not write a rhetorical
paper until the subject was simple enough for her to understand. Granted, Phaedrus continued to tell
his student what to write about, but once she could see how for herself, she no longer needed to be
dictated. Working back up and putting the pieces of the problem back together, the students then
were in position to decide for themselves what is the importance of grades. Half the class was not in
accordance with the instructor s opinion, but that was not the intention, or he would have just told
them what is the purpose of the grading system according to his own opinion.
The author is careful to point out that this divide and conquer method does not always work on a
general scale but only on an individual

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electric Razors
Electric Razors: Types And Advantages In the present era of mechanical life, most of the people
have turned towards electric razors since manual shaving takes more time than they can afford to

Kurt Vonnegut Research Paper
Kurt Vonnegut s works were affected by his dark viewpoint on human existence, that death is
inevitable and his lack of trust, but are most well known for his use of black humor to express it.
Kurt Vonnegut s most famous books included Slaughterhouse Five, Cat s Cradle, and Breakfast of
Champions, but he wrote many others. According to Kurt VonnegutJr. , Vonnegut s writing style was
considered postmodernism. Postmodernism is the use of choppy, vernacular sentences that go
against traditional rules of plot, theme, time, and character development. He demonstrated social
myths and viewed the world differently with new ideas and thoughts (5). Cat s Cradle said, [Kurt

Kurt Vonnegut is known for his use of black humor and his humorous way of looking at
something sad or serious often in his books. Criticism for his most popular book, Slaughterhouse
Five, included questions of Vonnegut s Moral Indifference and as Michael Crichton said,
[Vonnegut] refuses to say who is wrong... ascribes no blame, sets no penalties ( qtd in Telegan
and Hile 269). Similarly, Lev Grossman spoke of Vonnegut saying that his opinion of human
nature was low, and that the author was endlessly disappointed in humanity (qtd in Cat s Cradle
70). People even suggested that his frequent repetition of distinctive phrases, use of
colloquialisms, and his digressive manner became overused and uninspired over time ( Kurt
Vonnegut, Jr. 6). Although he was criticized by some as pessimistic, others observe that aspects
of his work counter his gloomy worldview. Vonnegut s humor was loved by his readers, and
helped him stand out from other generic works of his time. As Telegan and Hile quote Robert
Scholes, [Vonnegut s humor] does not disguise the awful things perceived; it merely strengthens
and comforts us to the point where such perception is bearable . Robert Scholes also considered
his novel, Slaughterhouse Five, to be an extraordinary success... a book we need to read, and to
reread... funny, compassionate, and wise (264). Vonnegut s writing style set him apart from other
authors, and also kept more negative criticism off hi back. He received lots of praise from many
people for his outstanding, different, and interesting works. Terry Southern wrote in 1963,
following the publication of Vonnegut s book Cat s Cradle, to be far more engaging and
meaningful other than the melodramatic tripe which most critics seem to consider serious ( Cat s
Cradle 69). In Cat s Cradle , Kurt was also said to be

How Did Andrew Carnegie Contribute To Civilization
Throughout history there have been countless individuals who have come along and helped shape
America into the manner it is today. Some of these individuals may have initiated noble
contributions that have caused them to receive wonderful praises even after they are long deceased.
On the other hand, there are other countless individuals whose contributions were not quite as great
and caused extensive permanent unscrupulous effects on society. One of the individuals whose
impression might have not been the greatest at one point, but who ultimately did contribute
significantly to civilization is Andrew Carnegie. Born in Dunfermline, Scotland young Andrew
Carnegie and his family migrated to the United States for better living opportunities.

MANAGING AND HANDLING INDISCIPLINE IN SCHOOLS
A RESEARCH PROJECT

ABSTRACT
The research project we present here in (entitled GERLINDES, in Portuguese) is set out with the
assumption that there is a link among the representations and the actions within the members of the
interstitial groups of schools, the practices in action and social and disciplinary environment at
schools. This research project is focused on eight case studies held in schools of different grades,
located in the centre of Portugal. Both qualitative (interviews and ethnographic observation) and
quantitative methodologies (pupils questionnaires) have been used.

Schools are complex, formal organisations that, as such, include behaviours of diverse actors,
organised and interconnected by a structure of authority and a network of relationships that allow
partial and unfinished information, resources and products pass from one group to another (Bates
and Murray, 1981, 58). According to these authors, school is structurally grouped in two kinds the
elementary groups and the interstitial groups . The former constitutes basic structural elements or
social units (for example, the class, the group of teachers of a certain subject or field of knowledge,
the administrative sector, etc.), while the latter, formed by the representatives of the elementary
groups, are connexion groups which origin a network of links in the system s structure (for
example, the pedagogical council, the school and/or school group assembly, the class councils, the
board of the parents association). It is inside these interstitial groups that the contact between the
members of the isolated elementary groups is established. Research has not given much attention to
the role of the interstitial groups, although the organisation of schools in the Portuguese educational
system assigns them a strong leading role. The organisation of these groups, established in
Portuguese schools, holds a potential of collective work to promoting a favourable school
environment to students learning

natural disasters produced by human hands. Along with the disaster which will be covered in

Once a strategy is finalized the procedures should be performed repeatedly so that they become
part of rote memory. Doing so will curtail the loss of lives as well as business utility. The fifth
phase of developing a disaster recovery plan is to identify and train disaster recovery teams.
George Reynolds states, Three disaster recovery teams are needed the control group, the
emergency response team, and the business recovery team. The control group makes all pivotal
decisions, directs and positions both the emergency response team and business recovery team.
Communication between all groups usually from an emergency operations center is orchestrated
by the control group. Members of these three groups are selected by both experience and their
ability to handle stressful situations. By training employees in disaster recognition as well as
response a semblance of order can be maintained while the world is in complete tumult. Ultimately,
the plan must be practiced as well as updated so that it is effective as well as executable. Only
through practice can you identify issues not initially addressed by the

Latino Gangs in Movies Essay
Latino Gangs in Movies
American filmmakers of the late twentieth century portrayed Latinos as merciless pursuers of the
American Dream . The Latino immigrants were characterized as Urban Bandidos , seeking the path
to ultimate wealth and power in a society dominated by Anglo authority. West Side Story, Fort
Apache, and Scarface each portrayed the Latino character differently, but commonly depicted the
Urban Bandido as a man in search of money and power in America. Not only do these immigrants
fight for the warped American dream, but they often fight without fear, willing to risk almost
anything to reach the top.

Newman s partner in the film who is engaged to a young Latina woman, pressures his future wife
to sleep with him and she eventually gives in to her strong Anglo man against her original beliefs

power in a hierarchical society, while Latinos were left weak and without control over their actions
and values.
Scarface portrays the Latino immigrant from a different perspective, as we can see in the
character of Tony Montana, played by Al Pacino. He is a Cuban refugee willing to hurt anyone
and do anything to gain power and wealth in the United States. He and his friends use guns,
drugs, and sex to push to the top of the power chain, while of course pursuing the innocent Anglo
woman. Once again we see the portrayal of Latinas as subordinate, weak and submissive to the
domineering, overprotective male. We also see the same conflict over loyalty that we viewed
earlier in West Side Story, but here the Latino puts family before all and kills his best friend in a
rage of jealousy over the friend s relationship with his sister. In WSS, the loyalty lies with the
lover instead of the family, as we observed when Maria continued to love Tony after he killed her
brother in cold blood.

In the United States laws are first introduced by a single or multiple U.S. House Representatives.
Once the law is discussed and has been passed through specific committees the law will be
debated in the full House. A series of debates will be had on the law and if voted on the law will
be amended or will stay the same. Once the debate on the law is over, the House will take a vote,
if simple majority votes for the law then the law will move onto the Senate. The Senate will go

When there is a disagreement between state laws and federal laws a clause in the constitution
called the Supremecy Clause will take over and inside the supremacey clause there is what s
called the doctrine of pre emption. If a state passes a law that contridicts what a federal law
states then the federal law will always prevail. There are a few examples of this happening
recently with the legalization of cannibis and gay marriage. Although a state has passed a law
stating that cannibis is legal in that particular state if the federal government wanted to come and
stop the citizens from possessing cannibis then they would be within their rights since it is against
federal law to posses cannibis (Lawson, 2017). Most environmental laws are federal laws because
most of the agencies that are tasked with protecting the environment are federal agencies.

Age Related Dysphonia Case Study
The aging process impacts the vocal mechanism as it does any other system of the body. In one
of the few studies that reviewed vocal disorders in the geriatric population, the incidence of
vocal disorders in people 65 years or older was between 12% and 35%. (Davids, Klein, Johns,

The Believable Space In The Philadelphia Story
The Philadelphia Story creates a believable space by making storytelling its main focus. Like
similar classical films, this film provides little room to let the audience question anything
happening onscreen, as most objects given focus within the mise en scene are important for the
story s progression. For example, early in the films screen time, Lord meets her fiancГ©, George
Kittredge, at a stable with her uncle and sister. In the very first shot of Lord s uncle, Willie, he is

Mary S. Paul s Impact On Child Labor
To begin, the Industrial Revolution ushered the world into an unprecendented era of innovation
and production. In order to keep up the factories and continue to manufacture goods faster than
ever before, children were forced to enter the workplace at extremely young ages. As a
consequence, these children often had to quit their schooling in order to earn money for their
families. We have few objective facts on what happened to the children forced to work in factories,
and so we must compile what information we have on the topic and find the differences and
similarities in each in order to piece together the truth. Thus, by comparing and contrasting the letter

Both pictures involve subjects who are directly looking into the camera, contrasting the
information given in the letter. When a viewer looks at such an image, they have no way of not
looking at the subject directly in the eye. As a result, this makes the viewer have a deep,
emotional response when they look at the two pictures as the children in those two sources
seem more real and lifelife. The viewer is morel likely to relate to the visual sources as they are
more realistic and visual evidence is harder to dispute than written evidence. The same is not true
for the first source, or the letter written by Mary S. Paul. In it, Paul states, Tell Harriet that though
she does not hear from me she is not forgotten, referring to another, Harriet, that the reader does
not know (Letter from Mary Paul). Consequently, this makes the reader feel alienated as they do
not understand the reference and hampers their view on the topic. Therefore, the two picture
sources make the reader have a deeper emotional response compared to the alientation felt by the

because we re going through this poem line by line. Lines 1 2 She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies; * An unnamed woman walks in beauty. This is an odd way
of saying that she s beautiful, isn t it? Walk[ing] in beauty makes her beauty seem more dynamic
as though it s partly her movement and the spring in her step that make her beautiful. She s not
just a pretty face in a portrait; it s the whole living, breathing, walk[ing] woman that s beautiful. *
Her beauty is compared to night. This seems strange night is dark, right? Aren t beautiful women
usually compared to a summer s day ? (That would be Shakespeare s Sonnet 18, in case you were
wondering). * But the featured woman isn t just compared to any night, she s compared to a
night in a place where there are no clouds and lots of stars. We suppose that means she has a very
clear and lovely complexion? Or perhaps being cloudless has more to do with her personality her
conscience might be as clear as a cloudless sky. * You see starry skies at night, but the brightness
of the stars relieves the darkness of the night. This is the first hint of a contrast between light and
dark in the poem. * There s some pretty sweet alliteration in these lines. You might want to head

Humanity, Monstrosity, Gothic Literature Death Essay
Humanity, Monstrosity, Gothic Literature Death by J. Williams The Gothic genre delves into the
depths of humanity, where the presence of the horrible and the macabre represent the dark side of
human nature. Indeed, according to M. H. Abrams, Gothic novelists invited fiction to the realm of
the irrational and of the perverse impulses and nightmarish terrors that lie beneath the orderly
surface of the civilized mind (111). In such works, unnatural desires and forbidden excesses that are
buried and secret in the functioning self, become the monsters lurching around in Gothic lore. Eve

is making its mark and a difference. (Dr. John D. Bissell, August, 2015)
The bionic eye is a robotic visual prosthesis (Dr. John D. Bissell, August, 2015) that can restore a
sense of sight. The bionic eye is an electrical device that uses electrical signals to provide a sense of
sight to patients with a healthy optic nerve. Patients with some forms of hereditary blindness such
as retinitis pigmentosa (BIONIC VISION TECHNOLOGIES, 2015) benefit from this prosthesis as

The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson And The Rocking Horse Winner
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence portray how
people can act in atrocious ways when impacted by society. In both of these short stories there is an
untimely death of one of the characters. The difference between the deaths is the emotional relation
with the characters. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast these two pieces of
literature through the similarities and differences in the settings, characters, theme, and plot. The
Lotterywritten by Shirley Jackson was written in 1948. Jackson declared her purpose for writing
the story was to shock the story s readers with a graphic demonstration of the pointless violence
and general inhumanity in their own lives (pg. 250). The main characters in this story are Mr.
Summers who draws the names out of the black box; Mr. Graves the post master that assist Mr.
Summers; Bill Hutchinson, Tessie Hutchinson who were chosen in the lottery; and the
townspeople. Jackson uses the bright and friendly atmosphere set the tone of the story. The story
starts off on a clear and sunny morning on June 27th. It was a beautiful day with the flowers
blooming and the grass green in a small little town of 300 people. In this town the townspeople felt
strongly about upholding traditions. Tradition is important to small towns, a way to link families
and generations. Following traditions blindly is what can turn into something terrible. The lottery
was held each year where one person was

Ripley County Sheriff s Office Case Study
The Ripley County Sheriff s office is located in Gatesville Indiana on Cherry Street. Sheriff
Milford Wankiee, formerly Deputy Wankie, had been temporarily appointed acting Sheriff when
Sheriff Thomas Huntley died in late 1937. Along with his new job, Milford inherited Deputy
William Hunter, who had worked alongside of him in the Sheriff s office for several years. That
worked out well for Deputy Hunter, as he was Milford s nephew. It was not however, a situation
Milford was fond of. Milford P. Wankiee left with just one deputy, made it known that he would run
as a full term county Sheriff in the next election. As a result, he hated to see any major crimes in
Gatesville that might affect his popularity. He did not know at the time that more... Show more

The Mayor promised a new Police Cruiser Motorola two way system as soon as the county and
city budget would allow. It seemed that Gatesville was way behind the times as far as new
gadgets went. Most folks still had party lines; many of the farms had no electricity and used coal
oil lamps for lighting. Some of the outlying farms like my Grandma s still used a buggy to go to
town, and Gatesville didn t even have a real Police Department. Everything it seemed was kinda
antique. The one way radio was why the Sheriff and our Deputy could only listen to messages
from headquarters, but could not reply. Presently, Mrs. Farnsworth operated this system. She
worked in the Sheriff s office now that Mrs. Gilpin, the former office person, had been fired for
helping several farmers in the moonshine business. Mrs. Ellie Farnsworth was a big woman and
when she got excited, she kinda twitched all over. This time she got really excited when we
convinced her that G.P. was telling the truth. It seemed like she was holding her breath and
bouncing up and down through the whole story. When we finished she let out a gushing sound and
said, Oh, Oh, Oh my God, then she pushed all of us in to see the

Grand Coulee Dam Essay
Background
Nearly 13,000 years ago, glaciers moved across the earth. In the Pacific Northwest they created
many rivers, including the Columbia. The rock that the Grand Coulee Dam was built on was
carved out by those glaciers creating a sturdy base of the dam. It is located in the rain shadow of
the Cascade Mountain Range in a shrub steppe grassland, which results in very little rainfall and
high temperatures. There have been many Native American tribes, including the Spokane, Sanpoli,
Nespelem, Lakes, Colville and many others that have lived along the Columbia River and have
relied on it for many of their day to day necessities (Columbia Basin Project 2015). On July 16,
1933 construction of the Grand Coulee Dam began, and nine years later ... Show more content on

The tribal members are against the dam because it ruins their life style. The Native Americans use
the Columbia River as a source of food and a way of life. Moreover, the damming of the Columbia
River forced the Native Americans to resettle. The dam is an issue to them because they fish for
salmon, an anadromous fish and once they re through the dam, there is no way for them to come
back up it to spawn; this leads to the disappointed commercial fishermen. The environmentalists are
upset because the construction of the dam means there would be habitat loss and alteration of a
variety of wildlife, including plants. The taxpayers in the Northwest Region of the United States
are the ones who paid for the majority of the irrigation construction costs ( Columbia Basin Project
2015). Currently, there are no efforts for removing the

  • 2. Biblical Book Of Job Depression In today s society, depression has become a broad term that often gets thrown around in multiple different contexts. However, depression is a serious concern that is diagnosable and can lead to several complications. In 2011, it was found that while 10.7 percent of U.S. college students were diagnosed or treated for depression, up to 50 percent of college students are vulnerable to developing symptoms of depression while attending school (Egbert, Miraldi, Murniadi 460). Although depression has remained a concern among mental health professionals for decades, there is still a lot to learn about how to treat and prevent this illness. One of the earliest discussions regarding depression can be found in the Biblical Book of Job, composed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although most people have heard of depression, very few people can depict its symptoms and effective treatment methods. The Book of Job appears to be one of the earliest works of literature regarding depression. Kapusta and Frank discuss a number of reasons why Job appears to be depressed ranging from his dysphoric mood to his poor appetite, restlessness, and reduced sexual drive. Although Job may have been depressed, he was able to overcome his depression through support from Elihu and God. Kapusta and Frank s portrayal of Job as a depressed person who is comforted by Elihu is effective for today s reader as it teaches people the importance of looking out for their friends. Furthermore, Job teaches us that just because someone is suffering, it does not mean that the person deserves what is happening to them. On the other hand, Kapusta and Frank s portrayal of Job is also effective for modern readers who are experiencing depression, since the Book of Job shows that despite Job s depression, he did not give up on his life. For instance, in Job 2:10, Job says we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil meaning that God does not will evil on us (King James Version). The Book of Job is an important reading since it teaches us that either we or someone we know will suffer at some point. This changed our belief in what we could accomplish. On July 20, 1969, the lunar module landed. Humanity did itself proud on that day. Until now nothing this big had ever been accomplished. The dream of traveling to the moon was already centuries old when the second World War ended in 1945. The primary objective of Apollo 11was to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth. Apollo 11 would be the mission to achieve the goal that President Kennedy had laid down, with more than five months to spare before the end of decade deadline. On July 19, after Apollo 11 had flown behind the moon out of contact with Earth, came the first lunar orbit insertion maneuver. At about 75 hours, 50 minutes into the flight, a retrograde firing of the SPS for 357.5 seconds placed the spacecraft into an initial, elliptical lunar orbit of 69 by 190 miles. Later, a second burn of the SPS for 17 seconds placed the docked vehicles into a lunar orbit of 62 by 70.5 miles, which was calculated to change the orbit of the CSM piloted by Collins. The change happened because of lunar gravity perturbations to the nominal 69 miles required for subsequent LM rendezvous and docking after completion of the lunar landing. Andrew Jackson was the seventh president under the Constitution of the United States of America who presided from 1829 until 1837. However, he was the first president to be impeached. With his controversial presidency, Andrew Jackson implemented many policies that continue to impact the United States in the modern era. The Indian Removal Act prompted the infamous Trail of Tears that killed many CherokeeNative Americans and moved them westward to confined reservations. Of course, to implement such grand policy, Jackson had to unduly convince Congress of those actions. In Andrew Jackson s speech given February 22nd, 1831 entitled Message Regarding Indian Relations, he tries to vindicate the Indian Removal Act, outline the benefits of such legislation, and explain why such it was indeed important. When the brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, started to publish a different type of story that depicted ordinary characters that overcame tough situations through supernatural and violent means, it caught attention among the people. These stories portrayed characters that not only possessed abnormal characteristics, but also had the lives of their adversaries end rather abruptly. The Grimm brothers collected extensively on fairy tales depicting violent behavior that were directed to be read to the children of that time which in turn gave a whole new meaning the term fairy tale. • 23. Kurt Vonnegut Research Paper Kurt Vonnegut s works were affected by his dark viewpoint on human existence, that death is inevitable and his lack of trust, but are most well known for his use of black humor to express it. Kurt Vonnegut s most famous books included Slaughterhouse Five, Cat s Cradle, and Breakfast of Champions, but he wrote many others. According to Kurt VonnegutJr. , Vonnegut s writing style was considered postmodernism. Postmodernism is the use of choppy, vernacular sentences that go against traditional rules of plot, theme, time, and character development. He demonstrated social myths and viewed the world differently with new ideas and thoughts (5). Cat s Cradle said, [Kurt Vonnegut used] black humor the use of satire and irony to transform serious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kurt Vonnegut is known for his use of black humor and his humorous way of looking at something sad or serious often in his books. Criticism for his most popular book, Slaughterhouse Five, included questions of Vonnegut s Moral Indifference and as Michael Crichton said, [Vonnegut] refuses to say who is wrong... ascribes no blame, sets no penalties ( qtd in Telegan and Hile 269). Similarly, Lev Grossman spoke of Vonnegut saying that his opinion of human nature was low, and that the author was endlessly disappointed in humanity (qtd in Cat s Cradle 70). People even suggested that his frequent repetition of distinctive phrases, use of colloquialisms, and his digressive manner became overused and uninspired over time ( Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. 6). Although he was criticized by some as pessimistic, others observe that aspects of his work counter his gloomy worldview. Vonnegut s humor was loved by his readers, and helped him stand out from other generic works of his time. As Telegan and Hile quote Robert Scholes, [Vonnegut s humor] does not disguise the awful things perceived; it merely strengthens and comforts us to the point where such perception is bearable . Robert Scholes also considered his novel, Slaughterhouse Five, to be an extraordinary success... a book we need to read, and to reread... funny, compassionate, and wise (264). Vonnegut s writing style set him apart from other authors, and also kept more negative criticism off hi back. He received lots of praise from many people for his outstanding, different, and interesting works. Terry Southern wrote in 1963, following the publication of Vonnegut s book Cat s Cradle, to be far more engaging and meaningful other than the melodramatic tripe which most critics seem to consider serious ( Cat s Cradle 69). This research project is focused on eight case studies held in schools of different grades, located in the centre of Portugal. Both qualitative (interviews and ethnographic observation) and quantitative methodologies (pupils questionnaires) have been used. KEYWORDS Indiscipline ; School ethos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools are complex, formal organisations that, as such, include behaviours of diverse actors, organised and interconnected by a structure of authority and a network of relationships that allow partial and unfinished information, resources and products pass from one group to another (Bates and Murray, 1981, 58). According to these authors, school is structurally grouped in two kinds the elementary groups and the interstitial groups . The former constitutes basic structural elements or social units (for example, the class, the group of teachers of a certain subject or field of knowledge, the administrative sector, etc.), while the latter, formed by the representatives of the elementary groups, are connexion groups which origin a network of links in the system s structure (for example, the pedagogical council, the school and/or school group assembly, the class councils, the board of the parents association). It is inside these interstitial groups that the contact between the members of the isolated elementary groups is established. Research has not given much attention to the role of the interstitial groups, although the organisation of schools in the Portuguese educational system assigns them a strong leading role. The organisation of these groups, established in Portuguese schools, holds a potential of collective work to promoting a favourable school environment to students learning ... Scarface portrays the Latino immigrant from a different perspective, as we can see in the character of Tony Montana, played by Al Pacino. He is a Cuban refugee willing to hurt anyone and do anything to gain power and wealth in the United States. He and his friends use guns, drugs, and sex to push to the top of the power chain, while of course pursuing the innocent Anglo woman. Once again we see the portrayal of Latinas as subordinate, weak and submissive to the domineering, overprotective male. We also see the same conflict over loyalty that we viewed earlier in West Side Story, but here the Latino puts family before all and kills his best friend in a rage of jealousy over the friend s relationship with his sister. In order to keep up the factories and continue to manufacture goods faster than ever before, children were forced to enter the workplace at extremely young ages. As a consequence, these children often had to quit their schooling in order to earn money for their families. We have few objective facts on what happened to the children forced to work in factories, and so we must compile what information we have on the topic and find the differences and similarities in each in order to piece together the truth. Walk[ing] in beauty makes her beauty seem more dynamic as though it s partly her movement and the spring in her step that make her beautiful. She s not just a pretty face in a portrait; it s the whole living, breathing, walk[ing] woman that s beautiful. * Her beauty is compared to night. This seems strange night is dark, right? We suppose that means she has a very clear and lovely complexion? Or perhaps being cloudless has more to do with her personality her conscience might be as clear as a cloudless sky. * You see starry skies at night, but the brightness of the stars relieves the darkness of the night.
