Motivation acts a force to energize and direct behavior in the workplace (Myers 329) so that
employees perform tasks to a high degree. It is motivation that retains employees in a company
because improper motivation acts as a deterrent to productivity and joy. Whether physiological,
emotional, or incentive based, motivation affects our lives everyday and induces our natural drive to
thrive and succeed. Many psychological theories explain the different ways employees may become
motivated, such as Maslow s hierarchy of needs, Herzberg s two factor theory, and theory Y, based on
how appealing a stimuli may be to an employee s needs.
A successful company only exists if its employees are properly motivated. However, finding the right
types of motivation proves to be difficult considering the variety of employees within the company.
While one employee may appreciate vacation time, another may feel he is not properly motivated to
do more for the company. One employee may crave recognition, while another finds solace in
completing their work without any applause. Also, in terms of incentives, it would be hard to
distinguish employees who work intrinsically to perform quality work from those who work
extrinsically for the reward. Too much of a stimuli leads to habituation and employees may ultimately
become demotivated (Myers 340). Without motivation, however, employees

The first paradigm of international relations is the theory of Realism. Realism is focused on ideas of
self interest and the balance of power. Realism is also divided into two categories, classical realism
and neo realism. Famous political theorist, Hans Morgenthau was a classical realist who believed that
national interest was based on three elements, balance of power, military force, and self interest

The power of a state is always contextual and relative. The final level of analysis Morgenthau
considers to be important is whether or not the power is legitimate and moral or if it is illegitimate and

international community will be less responsive to that state, weakening its power. Weak or small
states may enter into alliances with stronger states to increase their power and influence within the

Aging, it s something that as a species of life on this planet we are predisposed to and its results are an
inevitable factor that effects our bodies in several ways, from cataracts development to the progression

This book described the horrifying conditions in the stockyards and meatpacking industry. The story
depicts a young man and woman who have recently immigrated to Chicago from Lithuania. They have
a wedding feast at a bar in Packingown. The couple and some of their relatives go to Chicago for a
better life but Packingtown, the center of the city s meatpacking industry, is dangerous, filthy, and
hard. It was also difficult to find a job. The couple become a hundred dollars in debt to the
saloonkeeper and Jurgis has faith in the American dream that he could just work harder to make more
money. They go through struggles with hard laboring jobs such as digging freight tunnels (which
resulting in him going to the hospital), getting arrested because of attacking a man for not giving him
correct change, he starts to commit crimes such as burglaries and soon gets recruited to work for a
corrupt political boss. His spirit soon gets crushed by misery and wanders into a socialist political rally
which fills Jurgis with inspiration through a speech. He finds a job as a porter at a socialist run hotel
and later reunites with wife. This story is filled with signs of corruption and immorality. A big symbol
in this story was the animals and slaughterhouses of Packingtown which represent the working class.
Just like the animals were killed with impunity, made to suffer and had no choice about their fate, so
were thousands of immigrant workers who lived in poverty. They were forced into capitalism. Waves
