Basic Information
 Subject- Mathematics
 Grade- First or Second Grade
 Purpose- To teach first and second graders to be

financially literate by having a hands on
interactive learning environment for them to act
on and not only look at.

Smart Board Lesson Plan
 Interacting the students with a hands on activity is

going to stick in their minds. Having each student
complete this activity once, will prove to be an
effective learning technique.
 In addition, I would pass around real pennies,
nickels, dimes, and quarters to all of the students
and have them feel it.

 Having the students click and drag the coins to

the different items, on the smart board, shows
that they can identify the different values of the
coins.
 I would have the students come up one by one in
order to complete this activity.
 Applying the activities to a real life scenario, is a
great way to engage the learners attention.
 It also improves:
 Retention
 Interaction
 Participation

Design in several ways. A few ways are listed
below:
 Allows for Broad Spectrum ideas
 Encourages all age groups
 Targets all types of learners
 Visual
 Interactive
 Hearing
Universal Design for Learning Using
the SMART Board
 “Interactive whiteboards are key classroom

elements designed to engage a wide variety of
students in the learning process. They evolved
from constructivist pedagogy and support each of
the three principles of Universal Design for
Learning (UDL) by providing multiple means of
representation, action and expression, and
engagement. Participants in this cohort will
develop sample lessons, share resources, and
explore all of the different ways that SMART
Board technologies can help to maximize student
engagement and learning in the classroom.”
