1. Codes and conventions
Evident on my music magazine
front cover
Before creating my magazine I looked
at existing music magazine products
and took note of what code and
conventions these products used so I
could include them in my magazine. I
have done this so my magazine will
be easily recognisable to those who
will regularly purchase music
magazines, this will help me attract an
audience early on.
The codes and conventions that I
planned to include in my magazine
were the most noticeable and
important on the front cover, this is
why on the front cover I have
included a masthead, price and date,
the splash, sell lines barcode,
subheading, box out, pug, price and
convergent links. (See main task slide
for detailed codes and conventions)

2. How does my magazine
represent particular social
groups?
My magazine represents particular
social groups by associating itself with
a popular style of music that has a
specific style of person that listens to
it, this style of music is rap and the
style of person who listens to it are
normally young with a fair but of
money, I kept this in mind while
pricing my magazine. I have used
bright, modern and eye-catching
colours in an attempt to attract my
target audience, I believe this will
work as my target audience is of a
relatively young age.
The title of my magazine also
represents my target audience as
“Underground” has connotations
surrounding it of being dark, harsh
and grimy which represents this genre
of music well.

3. What kind of media institution
might distribute my magazine?
I have looked into different media
distributing companies but I believe
that Bauer media will be the most likely
and the best to distribute my
magazine.
Bauer media currently own the Kerrang
magazine which is one of the biggest
music magazine that there are, they
also own 25 other brands of magazine
and over 25 other types of media for
example radio stations, radio podcasts
and websites.
One of the main reasons that Bauer
media is so successful is due to there
USP’s (Unique selling points)these are
important as it is what the audience will
use to differentiate between different
media conglomerates, this group of
similarities that a media conglomerate
will use across all of their forms of media
is called synergy.
