Essay on Volcanoes
Volcanoes
Volcanoes are natural phenomena which are on the Earth's surface through which molten rock and
gases escape from below the surface (Tarbuck, 139). These volcanoes are very interesting to
observe and to study because of their amazing occurrences and majestic lava eruptions. Volcanoes
have been studied ever since the beginning of mankind and the word "volcano" is thought to be
derived from Vulcano, a volcanic island in the Aeolian Islands of Italy whose name in turn
originates from Vulcan, the name of a god of fire in Roman mythology. Consisting of several types,
volcanoes can extrude several forms of magma and can also release multiple gases. These extruded
materials can affect the Earth's structure and atmosphere.
There are...show more content...
Last but not least, composite volcanoes also make up some of the earth's surface. Composite
volcanoes have a conical shape, with a steep summit area and gradually sloping flanks, and are
nearly symmetrical in structure (Tarbuck, 141). These volcanoes release silica–rich and gaseous
magma that is highly viscous and travels very short distances. These three types of volcanoes that
occupy the earth have seemingly different physical characteristics and behavioral changes.
A volcanic eruption is one of the most dangerous and eventful natural disasters that can take place.
During these eruptions, several factors are taken into account. Each type of volcano discussed above
has a different form of lava: one's might be highly fluid and the other might be very viscous. Lava
can take many shapes as it is extruded from a volcano. One such form is that of pahoehoe.
Usually common on the Hawaiian volcanoes, pahoehoe is a form of lava which is smooth and
ropy and causes by the congealment of lava as it is released from the volcano (Williams, 32).
Another form of lava is one that is named aa. This lava consists of jumbles of rough, clinkery, and
spinose fragments, ranging from small chips to blocks measuring meters on a side (Williams, 37).
Aa flows are cool and thick and can advance at rates between 5 and 50 meters per hour (Tarbuck,
145). Lava can also take a block formation

Thesis For Nosferatu
Rhetorical Outline
Proposition: The film Nosferatu was a key step in establishing the modern standard of the vampire
as an icon of horror.
Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically
vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important milestone
in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the "vampire" icon and its use of
cutting–edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would find
this book appealing. Additionally, it holds a lot of important analysis for students required to study
Nosferatu, and provides insight to the significance of the film that they would not have otherwise
had.
Genre: Scholarly...show more content...
She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the
introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes
the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she
discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their
expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they
presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker's lawsuit
against the Prana film company damaged the movie's reputation and popularity. From there she
describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy
of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As
the chapter progresses, Massaccesi's description of the plot includes lengthy and in–depth analyses of
each character in terms of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she
considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film's events and
characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other
aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole,
applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder
associated with Romantic artwork.
Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very
informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a very
clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via

Essay Expository on Love
Love! Not For Everyone
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love
has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be
measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it– self has been
experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of
character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend's mom. What is love?
A choice that people make by putting their partner's wishes, desires and needs above everything else.
What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two
people. What is love? A...show more content...
The speaker loves her husband so much that she is willing to meet him no matter what the distance
between them might be. Love is the constant care and affection that is needed to flourish and bloom
into great beauty.
Love is the commitment that two people share. Jarold Ramsey's poem "The Tally Stick" is a great
example of the commitment that two people share. The speaker says, "Here from the start, from
our first days, look: / I have carved our lives in secret on this stick" (1–2). Starting with their
marriage, the first notch is "Near the butt, this intricate notch where the grains / converge and join: it
is our wedding" (6–7). The couple uses the stick as a symbol of their love for each other. The stick
symbolizes how committed they are in their relationship. Love is a commitment one makes to put
someone's wishes, desires and needs above all. What if the husband or wife became ill or cannot
take care of him or herself anymore? Or perhaps the spouse got orders to go to Iraq, or maybe the
spouse got a job offer in another state. What will happen to the life that is shared? Does the
spouse give up and move on? No! The spouse's love and commitment will keep them together even
if they are far away, or moving to another state, or becomes ill. Because love is unconditional,
spouses can endure all hardships that cross their path. Love is an infatuation between two people
and the desire to be desired. To be

The Beauty of the black Widow
Gordon Grice is fascinated, maybe obsessed with the black widow. He begins provocatively " I
hunt black widows. I capture it. I have found them in discarded wheels and tires and under railroads
tires. I have found them in house foundations and cellars...I have found them I hospitals and in the
den of the rattlesnake.... (176) In this quote Grice start with first person in place and with the
repetition of "I" so that the reader can get the attention into it. Grice's purpose in the " Black widow"
essay is to inform the audience about the widow's life style. He shows inspiration, fascination,
respect and love for widows. He furthers his purpose by using rhetorical strategies throughout his

inspiration, fascination, respect and love for widows that he compares them to such expensive

The Oregon Trail Essay example
The Oregon Trail
The Oregon Trail was a very important aspect in the history of our country's development. When
Marcus and Narcissa Whitman made the first trip along the Oregon Trail, many Americans saw a
window of opportunity. The Oregon Trail was the only practical way to pass through the Rockies.
Pioneers crammed themselves into small wagons to try to make it to the unsettled land; however,
10% of these pioneers died on the way due to disease and accidents.
The journey along the Oregon Trail was a very long and rough experience. Stretching out to almost a
whopping 2000 miles it usually took the pioneers 4–6 months travelling at 12 to 16 miles per hour.
Throughout this journey the pioneers had to battle with cholera, poor...show more content...
The role of the Native Americans during the time of the Oregon Trail was a very important one. The
first section of the Oregon Trail bisected two major Native American tribes, these were the Cheyenne
to the north and the Pawnee to the south. Many of the travelers feared attacks by these tribes but
were surprised when they were allowed to pass unharmed. The Native Americans were the opposite
of what was expected of them. They were very helpful to the travelers. They often helped travelers
pull out stuck wagons, rescue drowning travelers, and even round up lost cattle. Native Americans
also acted as guides, carried messages between wagon trains, traded with the travelers, and even
helped some travelers cross Indian land.
Most of the encounters with the Native Americans were simple business transactions. Travelers
traded clothing, rifles, and tobacco products in exchange for horses and food. However, many
travelers complained that the Native Americans charged expensive tolls for crossing their lands.
Conflicts between the Indians and the travelers were pretty rare. Out of the 500,000 people to
travel along the Oregon Trail fewer than 400 pioneers lost their lives due to attacks. When the
travelers had overgrazed the prairie grasses, burned all the available firewood, and killed all the
herds of buffalo attacks were expected by the travelers. In order to

Peak Hour Essay
Stressed, left eye twitching, shouting at inanimate objects? Eighty three percent of all Canadian
drivers find peak hour traffic more stressful than work. That means sitting in traffic is worse than
sitting through your boss's PowerPoint presentation. Everybody has their own personal traffic
nightmare, whether it's a massive backup, or perhaps, those screaming kids in the back. However,
there is a way to calm your seething road rage and keep cool through the frustrating gridlock. If you
find yourself in one of these situations the first thing to do in order to calm yourself down is to
embrace the fact that you are stuck in a gridlock. You are going to be there for a while, you might
as well have a good time. The second thing you do...show more content...
Keep the vehicle at a comfortable temperature. Studies have shown that you are much more
irritable when you are warm, so crank up the A/C to keep your body temperature at a comforting
level. Make sure you have plenty of gas when you set out, so that you're not actually worried about
running out of gas by using the air conditioner. In milder weather keep windows open to get fresh air
which is soothing. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing whiledriving. Avoid wearing clothes which
are too tight and restrictive. Keep a pair of shoes in the car for driving through traffic and make
sure to change into those as soon as you start out driving. Opt for a seat cushion or back rest to
further make yourself more relaxed during traffic periods throughout the day. Joe Brown, editor in
chief of tech blog Gizmodo, indicates that the best thing to do during a traffic jam is to stay in the
slow lane, because if you are trying to hurry, you are never going to win. So stay in the right lane, let
everybody else pass you, let everybody else stress out , just take your time and make a great day of it.

International Students Essay example
Differences between American Students and International Students Most young people believe that
studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and
learn from them. However, in the United States it is not as good as they thought because
International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot
handle it very well. Therefore, in the United States the life of an international student is very
unfavorable if people compare it to the life of an American student. International students have to
learn a new language to study, they cannot work while studying, and their tuition is much more
expensive. When people moves to the United Stated to study they...show more content...
They know their structure and have a very superior vocabulary, so they can compose excellent
essays. In addition, since American students speak English very well, they do not have any
problem participating in class. They have confidence in themselves, so they will not be afraid of
saying something wrong. Consequently, because American students do not have to learn any
language to study their mayor, it is much easier for them to achieve excellent grades. Most
university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money
in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students
because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is
responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very
difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited
since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to
find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is
not going to have any problem speaking the language. For example, last semester a friend from
Venezuela who is studying at Miami Dade College decided that he wanted to get a job in order to
have his own money. He went to

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden
to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but
teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don't know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class
activity assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There
are three types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are
assignments that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these
assignments is writing definitions down for new words...show more content...
Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies
examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC).
Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools
that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally
found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just
a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K–3 grades there should be no more than 20
minutes a day, for 4–6 grades there should be 20–40 minutes of homework, and from 7–12 grades
time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these
recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students
are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework
compared to Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers
don't think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more
than an hour of

From there she considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film's events and characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork. Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very informative and direct with the content of her book. The first section of the Oregon Trail bisected two major Native American tribes, these were the Cheyenne to the north and the Pawnee to the south. Many of the travelers feared attacks by these tribes but were surprised when they were allowed to pass unharmed. The Native Americans were the opposite of what was expected of them. They were very helpful to the travelers. They often helped travelers pull out stuck wagons, rescue drowning travelers, and even round up lost cattle. Native Americans also acted as guides, carried messages between wagon trains, traded with the travelers, and even helped some travelers cross Indian land. Most of the encounters with the Native Americans were simple business transactions. Travelers traded clothing, rifles, and tobacco products in exchange for horses and food. However, many travelers complained that the Native Americans charged expensive tolls for crossing their lands. Conflicts between the Indians and the travelers were pretty rare. Out of the 500,000 people to travel along the Oregon Trail fewer than 400 pioneers lost their lives due to attacks. When the travelers had overgrazed the prairie grasses, burned all the available firewood, and killed all the herds of buffalo attacks were expected by the travelers.
