SHORT FILM PITCHES
IDEA 1 - Missing in Addiction
• This will all depend on a partnership with the AmyWinehouse Foundation, they are
known for their work in and around schools, aiming their speeches and talks at the
same demographic as mine. My intentions are to interview someone who has spoken
within school and ask them questions that will shape the story, this is so I get a real
life perspective on drugs, allowing me to portray a strong message that could
potentially be used to help others.
LENGTH
• Anywhere between five to ten minutes, this allows enough time to portray my
message as well as tell a story with high quality cinematic shots. This is also so that
the audience stay and pay attention to the film as my primary demographic
stereotypically have short attention spans
TAGLINE AND KEY CHARACTERS
• Tagline – Appreciate who and what you have, you’ll miss it once it’s gone
• Key Characters –There is one key character, Sam.The whole film is based around
Sam’s life and how it has been effected by the use of drugs. Narration will be key
to the film, it will dictate the shots and entire story line. My intentions are to have
cameo appearances that are involved within the reflections of Sam’s life. Sam is a
young adult, male, and has been effected by drugs for the past few years. He is has
been drug free for a year and we then see the contrast between how drugs can
affect people but also the recovery stages.
SYNOPSIS – ACT 1
• Introduction of Sam,This will be the whole filmed played in a sped up sequence, this
allows us to get a feel of the roller coaster ride Sam has been on. However this should
show the dark side to his life that has been affected by drugs. We do not see full body
shots of Sam, these shots will be elongated as the narration will set the outline for
what we are about to watch.
• Cut away scenes will be accompanied by narration, however scenes in his bedroom
will be speech straight from Sam
SYNOPSIS – ACT 2
• Sam is all alone in his room contemplating life, listening to sad music .he picks up
a few of his pictures and looks at them strangely, placing them back on the shelf,
he starts to twitch again and goes into a small flashback of the events that had just
occurred and his past life of being an addict this then provokes an outrage from
him destroying the memories he has just been reminiscing over. He is throwing
the pictures at the wall, destroying the frames. There is one remaining picture of in
the middle of the desk, the same one he was picking up months ago before his
mum interrupted him.
SYNOPSIS – ACT 3
• Sat inside, Sam is relaxing in his room, the pictures have been restored. He is now
happy and content with life, there is a knock at the door, Sam waits as he wants
his mum to answer, she doesn’t, there is then another knock at the door Sam sighs
but goes to answer it, as he walks down the stairs there is one final knock.
• ‘Hello son’ this is the voice of Sam’s father, the same man who’s been missing for
all this time, the one who caused Sam’s issues and problems, As Sam stairs at him,
his mother quickly interrupts and pushes Sam to the side. Sam is having a
flashback to the smashing of the pictures, we then see him open the picture that
remained on his desk. His father his folded behind this picture he unfolds this
picture
TARGET AUDIENCE
• As a teenager myself I feel that the message of using drugs needs to be spread,
schools are trying to push the message about supporting young adults with drug
addictions, because of these reasons my target audience is young adults,
hopefully the film would portray a message that allows older people to see it and
they would show their children, or schools that could use this film to show
students,Within the primary demographic, we’d see the ‘aspirers’ type this is the
type of people who are oriented around a persona and appearance
FORM AND STYLE
• I will be filming this on a high spec DSLR, using a high spec set of lenses allowing
me to capture clean, professional shots. I will be looking to share a similar style to
that seen in shiros story, the reason I have based my case study on shiros story is
because the form and style within that film is something that appealed to me
massively. It is shot with a lot of movement, a lot of cuts and many different
camera angles, this is something I hope to portray within my film
MARKETPLACE
• I feel my film would be better shown at talks and within schools rather than
festivals, this is due to its message and actual storyline, festivals would be better if
I were creating this film to win awards and boost a directing portfolio, however
that’s not the mission with the film. I aim to spread a message to teenagers and
young adults.
MARKETPLACE
• I can see this film heavily featuring onYouTube, I doubt heavy it would reach the
big screens,YouTube is very much a platform which allows people to showcase
their work whether it be high or low budget. This ties intoYouTube’s slogan of
‘broadcast yourself’ and also it allows my primary demographic to easily access
the film, the free platform will allow audiences to watch the films on repeat and as
many times as they like. In addition to this, videos that are published onto
YouTube are a lot easier to share around than say a film that’s in the cinema.
STORYBOARD
This storyboard is displaying the main scenes within the film,
this is all one sequence, we see Sam’s desk with his pictures and
memories on, the camera rotates to show he is feeling weird
about the picture that is evidently in the centre of the frame, the
long shot allows us to see all of Sam’s memories and these are
what Sam is reflecting upon within these scenes
The rotating the camera acts as a transition into Sam and his
friend sat down. This is just before Sam trips out and blacks out.
The third box shows the duplication and trippy vision, this will be
done in post-production, however to enhance the effect I am
thinking of filming the same shot from many different angles,
this will allow me to cut between different shots which will really
intensify the effect.
IDEA 2 – SHADY MOVEMENT
LENGTH
• Roughly between five to ten minutes, this allows me to show my cinematography
skills as well as try and clearly illustrate my story line.
• As my film has an added plot twist I need to maximize my time dragging out the
story so the plot is unexpected
KEY CHARACTERSANDTAGLINE
• Key characters –Three key characters, Adam, Ben and Chloe. Adam and Ben are
best mates, Chloe is Adam’s girlfriend. However it turns out Chloe has been
cheating on Adam with Ben, his best mate. Samira is Chloe’s best mate, but she
only makes a cameo appearance.
• Tagline - be careful who you trust.
ACT 1
• Adam and Ben are at Adams house playing Xbox, music is blasting and they are
just chilling, Adam’s phone rings and its Chloe, his girlfriend, Adam looks at his
phone and goes to answer, however he leaves it until he finishes his game.
• Chloe notices that Ben is with him. She doesn’t really want to talk to Adam, it’s
more Ben she’s interested in. Chloe keeps talking to ben and Adam is fine with it at
first however the more he thinks about it he is annoyed. He finishes the phone call
with Chloe and chucks his phone to the side in anger. Ben asks what’s up and
Adam replies saying that he thinks she is cheating on him.
ACT 2
• Chloe is on her phone; we don’t know what she’s looking at however it’s evident
that she’s on it. She then gets a call from her mum to go downstairs and as she
gets up she plugs her phone into charge, as she leaves her room, Ben sends her a
message, then another and another.
• We cut to see Ben sending these messages, he then goes to phone Chloe but then
decides against it. He then goes to put his shoes on as he’s just about to leave his
house, his phone starts to ring and surprise, it’s Chloe we seem them talking
however music is over the top,
ACT 3
• Adam is leaving his house; he shouts to his mum ‘I’m just going to Chloe’s quickly’
as he arrives at Chloe, he is slightly nervous, hands twitching and he keeps re
adjusting his hair. He knocks on the door and the is no answer, he phones Chloe
and we cut to it ringing, Chloe realises who it is and answers.
• Loud shouting is heard and Ben realises it is Adam, he doesn’t know what to do,
Chloe is rushing around panicking, Adam starts banging at the door. Ben gets his
stuff and runs out the back.
• , Ben swings for Adam and misses hitting Chloe in the head. Ben turns to face
Adam it’s a pov shot from Ben and adam punches the camera we send the screen
black and that the end of the film.
TARGET AUDIENCE
• This film is aimed and targeted towards teenagers, however the message behind
it can be applicable to adults who have experienced or are experiencing the same
thing.Targeting this towards teenagers will hopefully make them aware of
trusting people.
• I hope to display this to the main demographic by keeping the plot twist to a
minimal, by this I mean that it will hopefully be not obvious on the twist that is
going to happen, this will re inforce the message behind the film.
MARKETPLACE
• YouTube is very much a platform which allows people to showcase their work
whether it be high or low budget. This ties intoYouTube’s slogan of ‘broadcast
yourself’ and also it allows my primary demographic to easily access the film, the
free platform will allow audiences to watch the films on repeat and as many times
as they like. In addition to this, videos that are published ontoYouTube are a lot
easier to share around than say a film that’s in the cinema
STORYBOARD
This scene is the opening to the film, it matches
stereotypical connotations of a teenage lifestyle, loud
music, relaxing and playing video games, this should
immediately engage with the target audience. The
wide variety of shots within this opening sequence
will keep the audience engaged in a scene where it is
nothing more than 2 guys playing a video game.

SHORT FILM PITCH

  • 2. IDEA 1 - Missing in Addiction • This will all depend on a partnership with the AmyWinehouse Foundation, they are known for their work in and around schools, aiming their speeches and talks at the same demographic as mine. My intentions are to interview someone who has spoken within school and ask them questions that will shape the story, this is so I get a real life perspective on drugs, allowing me to portray a strong message that could potentially be used to help others.
  • 3. LENGTH • Anywhere between five to ten minutes, this allows enough time to portray my message as well as tell a story with high quality cinematic shots. This is also so that the audience stay and pay attention to the film as my primary demographic stereotypically have short attention spans
  • 4. TAGLINE AND KEY CHARACTERS • Tagline – Appreciate who and what you have, you’ll miss it once it’s gone • Key Characters –There is one key character, Sam.The whole film is based around Sam’s life and how it has been effected by the use of drugs. Narration will be key to the film, it will dictate the shots and entire story line. My intentions are to have cameo appearances that are involved within the reflections of Sam’s life. Sam is a young adult, male, and has been effected by drugs for the past few years. He is has been drug free for a year and we then see the contrast between how drugs can affect people but also the recovery stages.
  • 5. SYNOPSIS – ACT 1 • Introduction of Sam,This will be the whole filmed played in a sped up sequence, this allows us to get a feel of the roller coaster ride Sam has been on. However this should show the dark side to his life that has been affected by drugs. We do not see full body shots of Sam, these shots will be elongated as the narration will set the outline for what we are about to watch. • Cut away scenes will be accompanied by narration, however scenes in his bedroom will be speech straight from Sam
  • 6. SYNOPSIS – ACT 2 • Sam is all alone in his room contemplating life, listening to sad music .he picks up a few of his pictures and looks at them strangely, placing them back on the shelf, he starts to twitch again and goes into a small flashback of the events that had just occurred and his past life of being an addict this then provokes an outrage from him destroying the memories he has just been reminiscing over. He is throwing the pictures at the wall, destroying the frames. There is one remaining picture of in the middle of the desk, the same one he was picking up months ago before his mum interrupted him.
  • 7. SYNOPSIS – ACT 3 • Sat inside, Sam is relaxing in his room, the pictures have been restored. He is now happy and content with life, there is a knock at the door, Sam waits as he wants his mum to answer, she doesn’t, there is then another knock at the door Sam sighs but goes to answer it, as he walks down the stairs there is one final knock. • ‘Hello son’ this is the voice of Sam’s father, the same man who’s been missing for all this time, the one who caused Sam’s issues and problems, As Sam stairs at him, his mother quickly interrupts and pushes Sam to the side. Sam is having a flashback to the smashing of the pictures, we then see him open the picture that remained on his desk. His father his folded behind this picture he unfolds this picture
  • 8. TARGET AUDIENCE • As a teenager myself I feel that the message of using drugs needs to be spread, schools are trying to push the message about supporting young adults with drug addictions, because of these reasons my target audience is young adults, hopefully the film would portray a message that allows older people to see it and they would show their children, or schools that could use this film to show students,Within the primary demographic, we’d see the ‘aspirers’ type this is the type of people who are oriented around a persona and appearance
  • 9. FORM AND STYLE • I will be filming this on a high spec DSLR, using a high spec set of lenses allowing me to capture clean, professional shots. I will be looking to share a similar style to that seen in shiros story, the reason I have based my case study on shiros story is because the form and style within that film is something that appealed to me massively. It is shot with a lot of movement, a lot of cuts and many different camera angles, this is something I hope to portray within my film
  • 10. MARKETPLACE • I feel my film would be better shown at talks and within schools rather than festivals, this is due to its message and actual storyline, festivals would be better if I were creating this film to win awards and boost a directing portfolio, however that’s not the mission with the film. I aim to spread a message to teenagers and young adults.
  • 11. MARKETPLACE • I can see this film heavily featuring onYouTube, I doubt heavy it would reach the big screens,YouTube is very much a platform which allows people to showcase their work whether it be high or low budget. This ties intoYouTube’s slogan of ‘broadcast yourself’ and also it allows my primary demographic to easily access the film, the free platform will allow audiences to watch the films on repeat and as many times as they like. In addition to this, videos that are published onto YouTube are a lot easier to share around than say a film that’s in the cinema.
  • 12. STORYBOARD This storyboard is displaying the main scenes within the film, this is all one sequence, we see Sam’s desk with his pictures and memories on, the camera rotates to show he is feeling weird about the picture that is evidently in the centre of the frame, the long shot allows us to see all of Sam’s memories and these are what Sam is reflecting upon within these scenes The rotating the camera acts as a transition into Sam and his friend sat down. This is just before Sam trips out and blacks out. The third box shows the duplication and trippy vision, this will be done in post-production, however to enhance the effect I am thinking of filming the same shot from many different angles, this will allow me to cut between different shots which will really intensify the effect.
  • 13. IDEA 2 – SHADY MOVEMENT
  • 14. LENGTH • Roughly between five to ten minutes, this allows me to show my cinematography skills as well as try and clearly illustrate my story line. • As my film has an added plot twist I need to maximize my time dragging out the story so the plot is unexpected
  • 15. KEY CHARACTERSANDTAGLINE • Key characters –Three key characters, Adam, Ben and Chloe. Adam and Ben are best mates, Chloe is Adam’s girlfriend. However it turns out Chloe has been cheating on Adam with Ben, his best mate. Samira is Chloe’s best mate, but she only makes a cameo appearance. • Tagline - be careful who you trust.
  • 16. ACT 1 • Adam and Ben are at Adams house playing Xbox, music is blasting and they are just chilling, Adam’s phone rings and its Chloe, his girlfriend, Adam looks at his phone and goes to answer, however he leaves it until he finishes his game. • Chloe notices that Ben is with him. She doesn’t really want to talk to Adam, it’s more Ben she’s interested in. Chloe keeps talking to ben and Adam is fine with it at first however the more he thinks about it he is annoyed. He finishes the phone call with Chloe and chucks his phone to the side in anger. Ben asks what’s up and Adam replies saying that he thinks she is cheating on him.
  • 17. ACT 2 • Chloe is on her phone; we don’t know what she’s looking at however it’s evident that she’s on it. She then gets a call from her mum to go downstairs and as she gets up she plugs her phone into charge, as she leaves her room, Ben sends her a message, then another and another. • We cut to see Ben sending these messages, he then goes to phone Chloe but then decides against it. He then goes to put his shoes on as he’s just about to leave his house, his phone starts to ring and surprise, it’s Chloe we seem them talking however music is over the top,
  • 18. ACT 3 • Adam is leaving his house; he shouts to his mum ‘I’m just going to Chloe’s quickly’ as he arrives at Chloe, he is slightly nervous, hands twitching and he keeps re adjusting his hair. He knocks on the door and the is no answer, he phones Chloe and we cut to it ringing, Chloe realises who it is and answers. • Loud shouting is heard and Ben realises it is Adam, he doesn’t know what to do, Chloe is rushing around panicking, Adam starts banging at the door. Ben gets his stuff and runs out the back. • , Ben swings for Adam and misses hitting Chloe in the head. Ben turns to face Adam it’s a pov shot from Ben and adam punches the camera we send the screen black and that the end of the film.
  • 19. TARGET AUDIENCE • This film is aimed and targeted towards teenagers, however the message behind it can be applicable to adults who have experienced or are experiencing the same thing.Targeting this towards teenagers will hopefully make them aware of trusting people. • I hope to display this to the main demographic by keeping the plot twist to a minimal, by this I mean that it will hopefully be not obvious on the twist that is going to happen, this will re inforce the message behind the film.

  • 22. STORYBOARD This scene is the opening to the film, it matches stereotypical connotations of a teenage lifestyle, loud music, relaxing and playing video games, this should immediately engage with the target audience. The wide variety of shots within this opening sequence will keep the audience engaged in a scene where it is nothing more than 2 guys playing a video game.
