3. SHOT 1
Shot one is footage of my sisters and I when we were younger. I felt
that this shot particularly focused on the relationship between the two
eldest sisters with me in their lap. As it’s a mid shot the concentration is
only on what’s in the shot so there are no distractions in the
background to catch the audiences eye. It also allows the audience to
focus on the expressions on the characters faces.
The text on this shot has the effect of ‘Soft Edge’ on it. As the topic is
personal I used this effect throughout. I used black as it was the only
colour that was clear to read against the clip. It is positioned on Laura's
top, this was done as the top is white and contrasts against the colour
of the text. It is also slightly off centre so the eye is naturally attracted
to it.
I also added an effect to this clip called ‘Aged Film’. I did this as I felt it
was approriate to the clip and showed that it is in the past. In a way like
a flashback, reminiscing on the memories of the characters as children.
Leading onto the next shot, the shot fades to black and then to the
next shot. I added this effect as the next shot is quite dark in lighting,
this adds a tense side to the trailer.
4.
5. SHOT 2
For this shot I didn’t add any effect to the clip as it’s a dark shot. I
tested certain effects but they blurred the quality of the clip or
made them even darker. As there is speech in this clip I felt that
having too many effects would also make the shot seem crowded,
for example it would look unrealistic to the audience. Also the
concentration is mainly on the audio.
I faded the music out on this clip so that the speech was
easier/clearer to hear.
Following on from this clip is a close up of the locket that my sister
is presenting to me. It is presented by a ‘Cross Dissolve’. This shows
the continuity from the previous shot as it is simply a closer shot of
the locket.
The shot is an ‘Over the Shoulder’ shot, this shows the emotion
from Laura’s point of view and the reaction from myself.
The Mise-en-Scene reflects the situation as the background
includes a lot of dark features, such as the wallpaper and bed.
6.
7. SHOT 3
This shot is a close up of the locket. This is due to the
previous shot not revealing what it actually looks like.
The cross Dissolve effect to get to this shot shows that
this shot is linked with the previous shot.
The shot also reveals the characters personality through
the jewellery, the bracelet and the ring.
This shot only lasts 1.3 seconds, I think as it is just a brief
close up of the locket, it doesn’t have to be long. I think
if the clip were any longer then the audience would be
bored and misinterpret why the shot is being focused on
for so long.
8.
9. SHOT 4
This shot is to show that my father was ill. I wasn’t allowed to
film the hospital as its not allowed so found the only way I
could hint off illness was to film the sign of the hospital. To do
this I got my sister to drive in and out of the entrance many of
times to get the shot.
As this is British weather, in this shot there is snow and there
isn’t in any other shots. This couldn’t be helped, I thought of
refilming this shot for when there wasn’t snow but then I felt
that I wanted the trailer to represent a journey. As the film
will never be made, I had to represent a lot on a short
amount of time. I felt that small details such as this show that
it was done over time.
Again I used text to hint at the topic of discussion. I used text
throughout as I felt that without the voiceover you should
still be able to work out the storyline.
10.
11. SHOT 5
This shot it presented through a fade out from the
previous shot. I made it fade to black as the background
of this shot is black.
‘The Promise’ is the title of the film and hints to the
subject of the trailer. The effect on this clip is a ‘Lens
Flare’. I used this effect as I felt it was modern and
looked professional.
I named the film ‘The Promise’ as it is all about the
relationship between the sisters and the father and
what promises were made before his death.
12.
13. SHOT 6
This is a shot of the stone at my fathers tree. I added a
Sepia effect to the shot to add a more mellow feel to the
clip. On my first go of making the trailer this shot was
quite long and has now been cut down. I felt that it may
make the audience feel awkward and didn’t want it to
be focused on more than necessary.
The Mise-en-Scene on this shot is quite personal, there
is a little post that says ‘Daddy’s Garden’ a bauble and a
small mushroom. None of these things were placed on
purpose but I felt if I moved them then it the focus
would be just on the stone. I think having these things
shows the effect a death can have and that it can be
hard at times like Christmas. It also gives the audience
something to look at other than the stone.
14.
15. SHOT 7
This shot doesn’t make sense without the voice over. If you
watch the first video on my YouTube account doesn’t have a
voice over. I think that the trailer makes sense without the
voiceover until this shot.
I used the ‘Old Age’ effect on the clip, which aged the paper.
In the clip my hand goes out of focus at one point and then
back in. I really liked this effect as I felt it represented my
point perfectly. Instead of just explaining what the point is I
think its important to show it.
I made sure that I wore nail varnish as the focus would be on
my hands, I wore dark nail varnish to represent the topic.
There is a ‘Page Curl Left’ effect added onto this shot, I felt
this was approriate as it was a piece of paper. I didn’t like how
you could see what was written on the piece of paper when
the page curled but couldn’t find out how it could be fixed.
16.
17. SHOT 8
This shot also includes a bauble, again this wasn’t on
purpose but I felt that the bauble and the ribbon turning
in the wind showed how personal the film was. You can
also see the top of a star that’s also hanging on the tree.
I think the Mise-en-Scene of the fields and fence
represents the surroundings at the crematorium and
contrasts against the tree and the love heart.
I added an edit of slow motion to this clip as didn’t look
very effective with normal speed. I think adding a slow
motion effect makes the audience think and encourages
them to have an opinion on the trailer.
18.
19. SHOT 9
This shot has a fade effect, but opposite to the previous
fades, it goes black then fades out into the next shot. I
did this as the next shot is gain quite dark.
Again an over the shoulder shot is used to represent the
situation from the sisters point of view. This time I
didn’t do it directly over the shoulder so we had a better
view of the ring. I also zoomed in on the ring for a short
amount of time.
Again I used the fade to fade to black from this shot
onto the next clip.
I didn’t add any effect onto this clip as it represented
itself as I wanted.
20.
21. SHOT 10
This time I used an over the shoulder shot for myself to
represent it from my point of view. This focuses more on the
pictures in which I am looking at and my surroundings. There
were many plans for this shot which didn’t work out such as a
360 degree view.
The Mise-en-Scene of this scene shows that there are a lot of
pictures in the background and that there are other people
looking at the pictures.
I added a slow motion onto this clip to focus on the image
that I was looking at.
I added text again to hint at the topic.
I also added an effect on the clip, ‘Hard Light’ this makes the
pictures easier to see and adds a darker side to the situation.
22.
23. SHOT 11
This shot starts of by ‘Cross Dissolving’ from the previous
shot, I did this to show the cross over from my characters
emotion in comparison with the images.
I added text to this clip also to hint at the subject topic.
I also added a ‘Romantic’ effect to the shot as it blurred the
background and remained focus on the face. I wore hooped
earring to represent my character.
The Mise-en-Scene also represents the family home in which
it was filmed in.
My character remains not making eye contact as the scene is
personal and emotional.
I also added a slow motion effect, I found that this made clips
have more feeling to them as the audience have time to take
in the situation and expressions.
24.
25. SHOT 12
This shot includes an effect of ‘Heat Wave’. This made
the background look brighter than it actually was.
The Mise-en-Scene in this scene is the pond and trees,
it’s a very calm scene. I didn’t slow this scene down as I
felt it would clash with the previous scene being slowed
down.
I had previously filmed me walking from further up but
cut it out as I felt it was too boring to just view me
walking.
