Differences Between Singapore And Malaysia
Singapore and Malaysia were both similarly colonized by the British. However, their development
after independence differed in many ways. In this paper, I will examine, with help from resources
provided in the course and minimal research, how their colonial experiences affected their political
and social development after independence. After which, investigating the depth of influence their
colonizers had, and why, differing racial ideologies had the greatest impact on their development.
Malaysia was colonized late by the British, with the Dutch colonizing Malacca first. In British
Malaya, the split anthropological imagination of Oriental Chinese and Malay was the basis of a split
colonial rule in which the governor presided over protectorate government, incorporating Malay
royalty and aristocratic rajas in the Peninsular Malay States and Crown Colony government in the
Straits Settlements. Despite settling down of both Chinese and Indian immigrants in Malaya, the
colonial government maintained their non resident status in the Malay states and gave British subject
status only to the descendants of immigrants in the settlements. Between 1814 to 1860 the British
were in a state of non interference. Non interference meant that the different sultan states could decide
how they wanted to design their state. Since the colonial government never accepted the Chinese as
permanent residents of the country, it is not surprising that the Malay population in Malaysia believed

The Rhetorical Analysis Of William Faulkner s Barn Burning
Cold Metal, Hot Flame
William Faulkner s Barn Burning is a well versed rendition of the post Civil War era, about the lives
of a family of poor tenant farmers. This story s setting is in a fictional (yet almost familiar) county in
Mississippi, and is told through the eyes of a young boy. In a detached sort of tone, Faulkner takes us
step by step through the ups and downs of Abner s moods, and how his youngest son, Sarty, perceives
them. Here is the thesis statement: However, it is Faulkner s style, tone, and use of long, flowing
sentences, that most stand out to the reader. .
In Barn Burning , Sarty s father, Abner, shows hostility to everyone around him and adds an unspoken
element to the setting that you can feel and imagine as you read. You can instantly see how Sarty
views his father, always comparing him to a cold hard metal that is tempered by a hot flame: He could
see his father against the stars but without face or depth a shape black, flat, and bloodless as though
cut from tin in the iron fold of the frockcoat which had not been made for him, the voice harsh like tin
and without heat like tin (127). It is ironic for Abner to be compared to a cold metal, when he is totally
consumed with a fiery hatred. The reader can almost feel Abner s deep dislike of anyone who owns
anything or has money. Faulkner s descriptions are colorful, elaborate, and a key part of his style.
Focusing on Abner, the reader senses he thrives off seeking revenge when he feels wronged, and he
responds with his emotions and relates it to the destruction caused by fire. However, he only uses fire
in what he feels to be extreme circumstances, because the element of fire spoke to some deep
mainspring of his father s being, as the element of steel or of powder spoke to other men, as the one
weapon for the preservation of integrity, else breath were not worth the breathing, and hence to be
regarded with respect and used with discretion (127). Abner s mood is important to the setting in the
way that speaks openly about Southern hostility and how it is almost always bottled up inside until the
anger and resentment are no longer bearable. That s when the barns burn down.
From the reader s point of view, the tone of the

What Is Brown V Board Of Education Essay
Although American schools were technically desegregated by the landmark U.S. Supreme Court
decision handed down in Brown v. Board of Education, in practice they remained largely segregated
due to trends in housing and neighborhood segregation. Consequently, busing came to be a main
remedy by which the courts sought to end racial segregation in the U.S. schools. The court s 1970
ruling in Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education furthered desegregation efforts by
upholding busing as a constitutional means to achieve integration within a school district. Due to
patterns of residential segregation, busing became a principal tool for promoting school desegregation,
by which minority students were transported to largely white schools and white students were brought
to largely minority schools. It was intended to safeguard the Civil Rights of students and to provide
equal opportunity in public education. Also, busing was an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Board of Education case initially accomplished relatively little in terms of achieving a truly integrated
public education system. The Supreme Court said in 1954 that schools should be integrated, but in the
following year, the court allowed the opponents of desegregation to frame the process. Due to the
program not receiving sufficient support, allocating sufficient money with which to function well,
indifferently staffed, and many areas of resistance, the case consequently remained immobile.
However, the Brown v. Board decision itself was a huge step forward: It shifted the way society as a
whole viewed race and helped begin to challenge what many people had long considered acceptable.
Ultimately, the court case became to be an effective instrument in achieving successful school
desegregation, in that its importance was realized and the program became to be adequately financed

Essay about Freedom Riders
Freedom Riders Freedom Riders were a group of people, both black and white, who were civil rights
activists from the North who meant to demonstrate that segregated travel on interstate buses, even
though banned by an I.C.C. Ruling, were still being enforced throughout much of the South (The
South 16). The Riders attempted to prove this by having a dozen or so white and black Freedom
Riders board buses in the North and travel through Southern cities. This was all a coldly calculated
attempt to speed up integration by goading the South, forcing the Southern extremists to explode their
tempers ( Freedom Riders 20). The author of the Newsweek article stated this as the Southern opinion
of the reason for the Freedom Riders. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several incidents of beatings were reported, sometimes with simple weapons, other times with
weapons of mass destruction conducted by local citizens as the freedom riders passed through their
city. Very often, the cops were conspicuously absent when the blood began to flow (The South 16).
One particularly violent incident on May 14, 1961 occurred when someone threw a bomb into a
window of an interstate bus. When the twelve passengers on the bus exited because of the smoke and
flames, the waiting mob pulverize beat some of passengers up. The police arrested four men in
conjunction with the bombing, yet the four men were only charged with willful damage to vehicles in
interstate commerce (State is Warned 1). The fact that this incident was taken so lightly is appalling.
Clearly these men should have been punished or convicted more severely. The hurt freedom riders
were taken to the local hospital, and none were seriously injured. We examined two articles about the
bus bombing incident, one from Time and one from the New York Times. The Time article gave a
much more general overview of the incident, and lacked some details, such as who was arrested and
why, and the response of the government. The New York Times article discussed this information in
great detail. It includes the names of the perpetrators and the reason for their arrest. It also discusses
the response of Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who

Who Is Nod An Epic Hero
Many Leaves, One Leaf man Epic is a film that tells the tale of Nod and his journey to save the
kingdom of Moonhaven and the forest he calls home. The tale begins when Mandrake, lord of decay,
sends his Boggan warriors to kill the queen of the forest. Nod and his companions, M.K. and Ronin,
are tasked with protecting the only thing left of the Queen, her magic Pod. The Queen s magic is the
only thing powerful enough to combat the rot, so Nod and his friends must keep the Pod out of
Mandrake s hands to protect the life of the forest. Throughout the film, Nod expresses many of the
qualities the Anglo Saxon s attributed to their heros. Like Beowulf, his personal qualities, timing,
supernatural experiences, and his journey all come together to ... Show more content on

The Anglo Saxons believed that the hero shouldn t enter the story until the main conflict starts. For
example, Beowulf is not introduced into the Grendel story until line one hundred and nine109 when
they say In his far off home Beowulf, Higlac s / Follower and the strongest of the Geats... , which
occurs after a lengthy introduction to the conflict caused by Grendel. Nod s entrance into the plot of
Epic is very similar to Beowulf s, but slightly different. Nod is initially introduced in the film as a
newer leaf man with great amounts of potential, but after an altercation with his commanding officer,
Ronin, he quits being a leaf man and goes off on his own.. He s not reintroduced into the film until
after the Queen dies and the conflict with Mandrake is at its highest point. Another Anglo Saxon
aspect of a hero s timing in a story is that the hero and villain don t meet until later in the story to
provide suspense. Beowulf and Grendel first meet when Grendel clutched at Beowulf with his claws,
(269), which isn t until the last 100 lines from that section of the story. Similarly, Nod and Mandrake
don t officially meet to do battle until the last 15 minutes of the

After a thorough analysis and a complementary evaluation, I decided to be a general physician as
Internal Medicine has always fascinated me and it can help me reach my future goals.
My medical school has influenced me a lot to help discover my interests. I was very keen to
participate in every ward during my clerkship. But the general medicine wards were the one where I

charitable organizations whom I contacted for the needy patient especially for their medications and

helps me feeling refreshed and feeding my soul again.
I could be a valuable addition to internal medicine residency program based on my experiences during
internship in my home country and during externship in U.S. These experiences have provided me the
power to uphold my determination and confidence in the healthcare system of any country where I am
working. I have always deemed reliable by my patients and they have always been satisfied with me.
Now this depends upon the trust of my residency program in me and the opportunities provided. My
enthusiasm and the potential to learn about the new healthcare environment is really worthy provided

The European Union And The People s Republic Of China
Introduction This year, the European Union and the People s Republic of China celebrate their 40
years anniversary of diplomatic relations with one another. During these years, they have redefined
their relationship, they have deepened their mutual understanding and today they share what both
sides call a strategic partnership . However, during all these four decades, this profound relationship
experienced many difficulties and challenges, until the last two decades, which marked a new era of
political and economic strengthening of their ties. Especially, since China s accession in the WTO and
the institutionalisation of its economic and trade cooperation with the EU, the two parts have
witnessed a flourishing of their relations. The EU ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going through the background of the relations between the two sides, focusing primarily on the
economic aspect of it, the paper will examine the opportunities and challenges of the strategic
partnership between the EU and China and it will argue that for China, the EU is the best economic
and strategic partner within the global economic system. EU China economic relations: a brief
overview Europe and China share a long history of bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
Trade and economic exchanges go back as long as 20 centuries ago, when the Roman empire formed
relations with ancient China in order to trade goods through the Asian continent. The most infamous
one is the example of the so called silk roads , paths that enabled cultural interaction and commodity
sharing, such as gold and silk, between European (Greek, Roman, Byzantine) and Asian (Chinese,
Indian, Persian) civilisations and were carried out by missionary merchants and pilgrim travelers.
During the modern history, however, European and China economic relations have gone through many
ups and downs, as the international climate affected drammatically their perception of each other. The
two World Wars damaged heavily the economies of Europe, while China was still under very low
levels of economic development. After the second World War, the US rose as the global economic
power and overshadowed the previous European (UK, France, Germany and Netherlands) economic

Similarities Between Mill And Martha Nussbaum
In today s society, liberty is seen as the presence of free choice in an absence of restraint/interference.
For John Locke, liberty is freedom form any superior power or authority and every individual has
equal liberty. For John Stuart Mill, liberty can be positive or negative: positive liberty is the
possession of full freedom while negative liberty is the absence of coercion/restraints. He claims that
positive liberty protects everyone, including the minorities and women; whereas negative liberty is
harder to achieve. As discussed later in the paper, Locke and Mill would recognize the United States
as a free society. Martha Nussbaum is a feminist liberal. For her, feminism and liberalism go hand in
hand because the combination would allow women to preserve/maintain their equality though their
own choice. Martha Nussbaum would not recognize the United States as completely free because of
the lack of appreciation for feminist liberalism.
In his works, John Locke has discussed the state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to him, everyone has liberty, including the minorities, women, and animals. He claims that
certain individuals could be harmed when achieving the greatest good for the greatest number of
people (utilitarianism); however, everyone has their individual liberty. Mill identifies tyranny and
conformity as threats to individual liberty. He also states that individual liberty should only be
curtailed if it poses as an identifiable threat to others. Mill states that freedom of expression, freedom
of conscience, freedom to unite (freedom of association), and freedom of pursuit constitute liberty. He
says, No society in which these liberties are not, on the whole, respected, is free, whatever may be its
form of government (1.13). Everyone living in the United States has a freedom of speech, freedom of
expression, and right to pursuit of happiness among other rights. Hence, Mill would recognize the

Palace Theif Character Analysis
The story, Palace Theif, is a somewhat short story about a teacher s point of view of how deeply
students can affect those around them. Others would disagree with how I would summarize the story
but this I how truly felt after reading it. Sedgewick, and those related to him, had a huge impact on our
narrator, Mr. Hundert. Even despite how after his student graduated he was still reminded by all of the
experiences he shared with him. The first relationship would of course be Mr. Sedgewick himself. He
is complicated boy with high status relations behind him, as he is related to the Senator, his father.
During the first interaction with Sedgewick, Mr. Hundert was most likely aware that he was going to
be a troublemaker of his class. However seemed shocked once he received Sedgewick s first exams.
How poorly he did on it seemed surprising to him as it states, He was a poor student and on his first
exam could not even tell me who it was that Mark Antony and Octavian had routed at Philippi, nor
who Octavian later became, although an average wood beetle in the floor of my classroom could have
done so with ease. (Line 12) This show exactly how he felt about Mr. Sedgewick. A simple no brainer.
As Sedgewick s grades get lower and lower, Mr Hundert decides to have a meeting with his father.
However during the meeting, which will be discussed later on, things went the in a direction Mr.
Hundert was not expecting. He learns how arrogant his father is and pities the boy. As it

The Therapeutic Benefits Of Yoga And Mindfulness Meditation
The Therapeutic Benefits of Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation We live in a world today in which we
are continuously looking for the new thing. With the speed of technological advances in our society,
individuals have become accustomed to reading up on the newest, most innovative to date jet plane,
new shoes with new technology for speed and agility, and, of course, new iPhones coming out twice a
year with cool new applications. The common word here is new and it is a simple syllable that has the
power to make any novel thing be perceived as appealing. As modern medicines continue to develop,
the public is also in demand for new age therapies, and thus we have seen an increase in attention
being directed toward the use of holistic medicines. Naturalistic and holistic methods are receiving
positive criticisms leading to an increase in the attention it is being granted them from multiple fields
of study. Due to the positive effects often observed as a result of such therapies, as well as their lack of
negative side effects, therapies that exclude the use of chemical medicines and focus on natural
healing are gaining international popularity. With media s current emphasis on physical fitness, society
is showing in an increased interest in keeping up with the trend a constructive trend when compared to
other subjects emphasized by the media. Furthermore, there have been countless reports stating the
benefits that physical activity has to, not only one s physical state,

The Association Between Low Hdl Blood Levels And Colonic...
Dyslipidemia is a pathological alteration of lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. It is one
of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons with
the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the possible
mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic processes
as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some of the factors
that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a high fat and low
fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon cancer as well. The purpose of this
study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and colonic cancer.
Methods:
A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of 183
patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having
colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Information regarding
demographics, HDL level, endoscopy and biopsy findings, site of the lesion and the period between
endoscopy and the closest HDL measurement we have in our records.
Results:
Our study population included 183 patients (66 males and 116 females). 86 patients had adenomas
while 96 patients were diagnosed with CRC. The mean age was 61.1+/ 11 years and 80 +/ 12.2 years

Progressives Were Groups Of Reformers
Progressives were groups of reformers dedicated to improve the social and the political problems in
the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They live generally in the towns, were
well instructed professionals, and thought the government could be an instrument for the
transformation. They started a social movement that turned into a political movement. Unfortunately,
the remainder of the population was subject to law incomes, long working hours, risky industrial tools,
and unprincipled employers. Progressives believed the problems (poverty, violence, greed, racism,
class warfare) that the society faced could best be directed by offering good education, a safe
environment, and an efficient workplace. In the words of historian Howard Zinn, the Progressives
worked to stabilize the capitalist system by repairing its worst defects. 2and restore some measure of
class peace in a time of increasingly bitter clashes between capital and labor (Zinn 354). The
progressive tried to reform the United States; however, they were incapable to make significant
changes and improve the labors of the working class.
The social structure in America pushed people around because the opportunities were not equals. The
social in America was not favorable for the vast majority of tenant farmers, factory workers, slum
dwellers, miners, farm laborers, working men and women, black and white. Robert Wiebe sees in the
Progressive movement an attempt by the system to adjust to

Critical Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Note On Commercial...
Even after the Harlem Renaissance was off the forefront of the nation s mind, Langston Hughes
continued to comment on the demoralization that white people have historically done unto the African
American community. In his 1940 poem, Note on Commercial Theater , Hughes looked to the writers
for Broadway and the presentations of commercial theater and saw the appropriation of black culture
and perversion of music introduced by the Harlemites. These writers made the music whiter while
stripping the credit from those who established it. Despite not having the recognition of white people
at that time, Hughes still knew that someday somebody ll / Stand up and talk about me, / And write
about me even if it would only be himself (Note on Commercial Theatre 12 14). Somehow,
somewhere, someone would always be able to identify the wrongs white people inflict on others and
be able to pay homage to the struggle while still celebrating their culture. His awareness of the ability
of the black community to join together and acknowledge progression demonstrates his confidence in
that community as a whole. It does not matter whether or not his own words are heard in his time, but
instead that someone else will take them to heart and further the progression towards a better situation.
The promise of a future ties the entire black community together towards more opportunities for
growth.

Antigone And Creon Tragic Hero
Greek tragedy would be incomplete without a tragic hero; according to Aristotle, that is a man of
misfortune that comes to him through error of judgement (Aristotle). A tragic hero possesses a tragic
flaw, and although Sophocles named his play Antigone, what was Antigone s flaw? She returns home
after a war to find that Creon, king of Thebes, has made a declaration that prohibits the burial of
Polyneices, Antigone s brother. In risking her life to bury Polyneices and ultimately being sentenced to
death for doing so, she indeed demonstrates some characteristics of Aristotle s ideal tragic hero.
However, her willpower and loyalty to her family was no flaw. Creon, on the other hand, exhibits
extreme hubris and believes in the natural man more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What was it that caused Oedipus downfall? His hubris. During Oedipus reign, Creon tried to counsel
with him in a similar way that Teiresias tried to counsel with Creon. Nevertheless, Creon proceeds to

James Cameron And European Imperialism
The overall concept of imperialism was based upon utilizing military force to lead to an increase of
power and superiority. This idea was originated when attempting to portray one s nation to be superior
compared to the others and therefore, such actions were taken in order gain that economic power. In
the given poems as well as the movie, Avatar by James Cameron, it s clearly evident that European
imperialism is portrayed negatively with regard to the fact that external nations were invading the
native lands and influencing the indigenous people s religion. They had also imposed certain traditions
and customs upon the subjects which included a change in religion. In addition, European imperialism
was dishonorable because the general idea of invading one s land for any given reason doesn t justify
the impact created upon the natives. In Let Freedom Come , Davidson exclaims, I hear you
countryman done spoil to West Indies ... I think he want come spoil we country too ( Davidson lines 2
4). Also, African leaders were quite aware of the classic move played upon their nation in terms of
building a foundation of skills to control the trade routes which resulted in conquering certain parts of
land. Furthermore, Davidson emphasizes the fact that European imperialism lead to a shortage of
natural resources, trade conflicts, as well as a diversity in cultural superiority. For example, as seen the
movie, Avatar by James Cameron, Look. You re supposed to be winning the hearts

Linux Operating System (graduate level CIS term paper)
1. What Is Linux?
Linux is an operating system that was initially created as a hobby by a young student, Linus Torvalds,
at the University of Helsinki in Finland. Linus had an interest in Minix, a small UNIX system, and
decided to develop a system that exceeded the Minix standards. He began his work in 1991 when he
released version 0.02 and worked steadily until 1994 when version 1.0 of the Linux Kernel was
released. The current full featured version is 2.4 (released January 2001) and development continues.
Linux is developed under the GNU General Public License and its source code is freely available to
everyone. This however, doesn t mean that Linux and its assorted distributions are free companies and

Process management creates processes, and implements multitasking by switching the active process
on the processor.
At the lowest level, the kernel contains a hardware device driver for each kind of hardware it supports.
Since the world is full of different kinds of hardware, the number of hardware device drivers is large.
There are often many otherwise similar pieces of hardware that differ in how they are controlled by
software. The similarities make it possible to have general classes of drivers that support similar
operations; each member of the class has the same interface to the rest of the kernel but differs in what
it needs to do to implement them. For example, all disk drivers look alike to the rest of the kernel, i.e.,
they all have operations like `initialize the drive , `read sector N , and `write sector N .
Some software services provided by the kernel itself have similar properties, and can therefore be
abstracted into classes. For example, the various network protocols have been abstracted into one
programming interface, the BSD socket library. Another example is the virtual filesystem (VFS) layer
that abstracts the filesystem operations away from their implementation. Each filesystem type
provides an implementation of each filesystem operation. When some entity tries to use a filesystem,
the request goes via the VFS, which routes the request to the proper filesystem driver.

College Should NOT Be Free
Universities and colleges should let students who cannot afford tuition attend for free. Higher
education may put those attending into future debt that may be difficult to pay back. Many students
struggling with affording payments may experience schedule conflicts between work and school.
Providing free tuition not only helps the citizens of America to have a better future, but also helps the
country. The price to receive a degree can be very expensive for many people who cannot afford it.
Students who pay for their own tuition might come from a family where saving money for college was
not an option. Many families lean towards taking out loans to cover tuition cost. Taking out a loan can
be very complicated with the high interest that is added when paying it back. At the time parents or
students decide to take a loan out, they do not think about how they will repay the debt. After
receiving a degree many people find themselves trapped because finding a job to pay the loan back
can take a while if at all. Another option is for the student to work as well as being a full time student.
Students quickly find that trying to manage time between work and studying can be difficult. Many
students who work and go to school find themselves always rushing to get things done not giving
complete effort. Also, working can have a negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Flappers Of The 1920s
Flappers What is a flapper? The flapper is one of the most essential parts of the 1920s. They
represented a new type of woman. Whether in attitude, attire, or slang. The 1920s flapper
demonstrated how women could transform into something that is a part of the modern construction of
women s identity. The flapper was a major part of The Roaring Twenties . The flapper was how young
women sought to define themselves. Prior to the 1920s American women were seen in a very
traditional light. They were meant to stay in the backgrounds of their husbands. Their dresses were
meant to cover all the parts of their bodys. Women were told to follow the traditional and subservient
roles. With the ending of World War 1, Europe was in ruins, America became seen as the center of the
world s stage.
The war caused many American women to take factory jobs as result of the men enlisting in the war
effort. They took these jobs because once the husband left there was no source of income coming to
the family. So the women had to go to work to receive income to feed their families. Also, they started
to work at the factories so they could make guns, bombs, food, and clothes to send to the troops in
Europe who were fighting in the war.
The 19th Amendment was passed in 1920 by the United States Constitution that allowed women the
right to vote. On November 2, 1920 more than 8 million women across the United States voted in
elections for the first time. It took

Gender in African Women´s Writing Essay
The identity of African women juxtaposed to the Western women s identity is a hard concept for one
to grasp. The word feminism is merely looked at from one perspective, the western perspective. The
reality of feminism is that everywhere in the world has a different idea of what feminism is defined as
and what it should look like. However there is one central theme that applies to feminists around the
world, which is a feminist is someone who goes against traditional roles of a woman in their society to
better their gender as a whole.
These strong, and independent African women authors use insightful and educational language, which

allow herself to remain uneducated, and she certainly does not allow herself to be categorized as a
minority. In order for a woman to achieve these goals she has to take extreme risks and jeopardize the
one life she knows. The term rebel has been used often when African women describe themselves and
from their definition a rebel is a feminist. In Aidoo s, Changes we are introduced to a woman who has
so much self respect for herself that she transforms herself into an African feminist. She takes a
modern stance on femininity and this is refreshing change. This woman refuses to be walked all over
by some man who tells her what she can and cannot do. She leaves the life she knows and risks it all
in order to be free and feel that no one is judging her for having a high paying job as a female. Women
are often worried how other females will judge them and or be jealous of their accomplishments. It is
women like this that make women all over the world see the many possibilities that lay before them,
no matter what their current situation.
Women in Africa who do not rebel and sadly do not become a feminist are grouped in a category that
one could consider as the outsiders . Women who fear to be feminists fall into a trap, which becomes a
vicious cycle and makes it almost impossible for them

Pink Floyd s Impact On British Culture

The difference between Pink Floyd and other bands is that they started their own type of music, while
most other bands will go with the most generic and overused melodies showed in countless rock
songs, that was not just in one specific area in the world. This British Invasion gave so much credit to
a lot of talented artist who just so happened to come from the Britain area. Because of this, this
changed a lot of styles in younger generations and the overall culture of Britain. Not everyone agreed
with the new trends but overall the norm of that time would eventually change and have history repeat
itself. In this scenario, Pink floyd is continuously influencing band and had a great run as a band.
The beginning of Pink Floyd was something Britain had never seen, and really shined light on this
band. Of course, they did not invent psychedelic rock by any means but did begin their own twist
within this genre. There was several bands in the US that had played this genre before Pink Floyd in
the late 1960 s. Their first official non live album was Piper at the Gates of Dawn, which Britain
considers this album a prime example of psychedelic rock. On August 4, 1967 this album was
released. The album showed avant music, such as whimsical rock all the way to melancholic rock.
Pink Floyd was not loyal to one specific genre, but ventured out beyond

special festival to celebrate Samhain, the god of the dead. The day they choose was their New Year s

The Government Expectations Through The Cafe Standards On...
The government expectations through the CAFE standards on consumer cost benefit analysis on
purchasing an eco friendlier car is not realistic to what consumers truly value. If this were the case,
then why wouldn t everyone be purchasing a more economical vehicle? The problem with these
governmental standards is that they do not efficiently satisfy the needs of both the consumers and
manufacturers within the automobile industry. Although the data suggests that the net benefits
certainly outweigh the costs in the long run, what is not seen are the costs incurred to manufacturers
over time. Using the economic theories of the Keynesian Model, from That which is seen, and that
which is not seen , and supply and demand, we will discuss the implications of these imposed
standards and suggest our own recommendations for solving this problem. Supply and demand is the
most basic principle of economics. Supply and demand have an inverse relationship to each other for
very simple reasons. When demand increases, people buy more of an item, thus lowering supply. If
supply increases, then items demand of an item is decreased unless the price is lowered. The way that
this case is affected by supply and demand is when the CAFÉ standards are enacted the price of
vehicles will go up due to the increased costs of production. The increase in the price will lower the
demand of new cars and increase the supply sitting in dealerships. Also the increase in price of new

Catholic and went to a Catholic school. Thomas shared a room growing up with his brothers. One
bathroom, two beds and one desk for six boys to share. One of his memories of his siblings growing
up was selling strawberries in the neighborhood. Thomas loved to run and play outside. Almost every
summer day, he would grab a bat, 6 baseball gloves and 8 apples for the park. They would go to the
park until dinner time. Pets can play a big part in families. Growing up, Thomas had a cocker spaniel

Dangers Of MDMA
MDMA, going to parties, being a young adult and trying new things is always fun but it might be
more harmful than once thought. Looking at the compounds of the drug, how it was made and long
and short term effects to show how bad it is. Looking at the different age groups and how MDMA
affects them. Looking at all the consequences worldwide from MDMA will show that this is a party
drug to a party most might not want to go to. MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is more
commonly known as ecstasy. It was made by a german drug company called merck in 1912. It was
then popularized in the hippie era in the 1970 s. People associated it to be dangerous because it was
made by germany and in the 1940 s everybody knows germany was where the nazi ... Show more

Although this may be true it doesn not cure anything it does what any other drug does give you a false
sense of happiness. The way this drug works as soon as it enters the bloodstream it goes straight for
you brain. Specifically it goes to the part of your brain that produces serotonin. Serotonin essentially is
the chemical your brain produces when your happy. MDMA or ecstasy goes for the serotonin to push
out as much as it can. Another danger of this drug is it can be sold to people who do not know what it
looks like for something more dangerous. This may be harmful because serotonin is what regulates
your overall mood and body temperature. When this much serotonin is pushed out the body
temperature is can go up to 110 degrees fahrenheit or higher. At 110 degrees fahrenheit blood starts to
coagulate in the past 2 decades dozens of users died to this (John C.). This is a dangerous short term
effect of MDMA but there are other dangerous effects of MDMA that are long term as well. As the
ecstasy forces serotonin out it reshapes the brain cells that produces chemicals. A recent study pinning
people who have never taken ecstasy vs people who took it 2 weeks prior shows that there are less
serotonin receptors in people who have taken ecstasy. This makes it harder for your body to regulate
emotions so mood swings occur frequently. Depending on how hard the mood swing hits this could be
dangerous. Another danger of ecstasy is it s look, it looks like almost all other medicine. This can be
dangerous because you never know if it will show up in your medicine cabinet by mistake (it is not
likely to happen but there have been cases). More short term symptoms for ecstasy include paranoia,
addiction, muscle tension and worst case scenario death. Other long term effects of ecstasy include
kidney failure, hemorrhage, and

This stagnant blood forms clots that break off and inter the circulation. Atrial Fibrillation is a factor in

with daily use of anticoagulant medication. Hemorrhagic Strokes
Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessels in the brain leaks or ruptures. Bleeding from the
ruptured brain artery can either go into the substance of the brain or into the various spaces
surrounding the brain. The two types of hemorrhagic stroke are Intracerebral and Subarachnoid
hemorrhagic.
Intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke occurs when vessels within the brain leaks blood into the brain itself.
It often happens without warning. This type of stroke represents about 10% of all strokes. The most
common cause is uncontrolled high blood pressure or (Hypertension.) Hypertension can cause small
arteries inside the brain to become brittle and susceptible to cracking and rupture. Less often it may
result from a blood vessel defect present since birth.
In a subarachnoid hemorrhage, bleeding occurs within the space between the brain and the skull. This
type of stroke accounts for about 7% of all strokes. A subarachnoid hemorrhage is often signaled by a
sudden thunderclap headache thats more severe than any you have ever felt. About half of all people
who experience a subarachnoid hemorrhage die. Half of those who survive are left

Canadian Magazine Dispute Essay
Canadian Magazine Dispute
To what extent do you think the U.S. Canadian magazine dispute was motivated by genuine desires to
protect Canadian culture?
Canadian government was aware of how powerful print media like magazine can rapidly change the
lifestyle and culture of the citizens. The government was mindful about the fact that magazine is one
of the easiest way to introduce the citizens to pop culture which in turn will influence the country s
fashion, food, television content and even music. The fear of the government losing the Canadian
culture and way of life compelled her in the 1920 s to imposed protective tariffs on foreign magazines
and the prohibition of the importation of split run editions of foreign published magazines into their ...

This was because these American originating magazines serve a much larger market, they are able to
take advantage of the principle of economy of scale, and to offer lower advertising prices. It was
predicted that the diversion of advertising revenue would force many Canadian periodicals out of
business .
Given that Canadian magazines constitute only 11 percent magazine sales in Canada, how important is
this matter to Canadian culture?
Foreign magazine taking up to 89 percent of the magazine industry in Canada is indeed a big blow to
the culture of the land. Americanization is gradually taking over the culture of the people. The
existence of globalization has made it possible and easier for people to unconsciously adapt new
lifestyles. This was one of the fears of the Canadian government at the beginning when she was
introducing taxes on foreign magazine. With globalization evolving at a fast pace the Canadian
government will find it very hard to maintain the culture of the land especially with just 11% of the
market share.
And, if Canadians seem to prefer buying American magazines, shouldn t they be allowed to vote with
their purchasing

Politics Of The Veil
In The Politics of the Veil by Joan Wallach Scott, she argues about the proponents of the law on
holding France s values of liberalism and the wearing of headscarves. Wearing headscarf known as
hijab has faced discrimination to all female Muslim all over the world. Students who are well behaved
should have their right to protect themselves as women. According to the reading The Politics of the
Veil Muslim headscarves were taken to be a violation on French secularism, however, if everyone was
to be individual with commitment like France as well Muslims where to dress differently, why it wasn

Same as to women s wearing headscarf when going out there homes. However, De Tocqueville and
Cesaire believed of the rights of man and women, but at the same time did not. An example, according
to Cesaire reading he said we aspired not to equality, but to domination he is telling use readers that
equality it s enough compared to domination on other countries. I can compare women s rights on
wearing headscarf to men having their rights according to Benito Mussolini reading. His idea was
more about fascism which effected more women s then mans. If I would have been in a situation like
many women s in France wearing headscarf I would probably follow the law and believed why us
women can t were headscarf. In other words, I won t like it if other people would consider me as
danger to the foundation of the secular state as she mention. As in for girls going to schools and not
have the rights to wear headscarf is a much more problem for them to keep their more protected. I
strongly disagree with not letting girls wear headscarf even if they are good students, with no
discipline records. Although this was a problem for poor families who really had to follow the law
because they had to make sure they Childs attend classes. Finally, not all French people followed up
the rules and the law, which cause it more to the Muslims because it connected them with the law that
many French people didn t

Leadership Is A Personality Change
Leader is somebody who inspires, can make positive change in somebody s, life or situation directly
or indirectly whether it is a big or a small change (Dudley, D., 2010). Leadership is a personality
change that develops over time with efforts and experience. When I think from Dudley s perspective, I
had been a leader always I guess, but when we talk about realizing it and consciously working to
improve your skills that started after I started working. My desire to learn and excel always pushed me
to learn new skills and improve myself. I believe this desire and effort from my end was recognized
and people admired me for it. This trait in addition to my interpersonal skills and participative nature
helped me move to higher roles in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accountability comes when you realize you are responsible for something or someone, that can
impact somebody life or goals negatively or positively. Bolman, L. G. Deal, T. E. (2013), mentioned
that group accountability is important for organizations success. I learned accountability from the
attachment I developed with people who I work with and from my managers. My manager holds me
accountable for my responsibilities and contribution towards organization goals by clearly explaining
what is expected out of me and my team, my job responsibilities, my contribution, how it contributes
to organization success and Why my role is important? I replicate the same and hold myself and my
team accountable for high level of performance needed, for any misses, or for any tough decisions
needed for the benefit of the organization. When you realize that you made a decision that backfired,
you easily can blame it on somebody else but then how will that impact others, what will be your
credibility? Such things made me more positive towards taking responsibility of action and that had a
very positive impact on me and my team. My team when saw me doing this, was willing to take
accountability for their actions and responsibilities rather than shrugging it on each other. That really
helped in forming a strong team that is firmly bonded by trust. The components of a successful
evidence based leadership are aligning goals and behaviours and ensuring accountability (Studer,

  • 2. Differences Between Singapore And Malaysia Singapore and Malaysia were both similarly colonized by the British. However, their development after independence differed in many ways. In this paper, I will examine, with help from resources provided in the course and minimal research, how their colonial experiences affected their political and social development after independence. After which, investigating the depth of influence their colonizers had, and why, differing racial ideologies had the greatest impact on their development. Malaysia was colonized late by the British, with the Dutch colonizing Malacca first. In British Malaya, the split anthropological imagination of Oriental Chinese and Malay was the basis of a split colonial rule in which the governor presided over protectorate government, incorporating Malay royalty and aristocratic rajas in the Peninsular Malay States and Crown Colony government in the Straits Settlements. Despite settling down of both Chinese and Indian immigrants in Malaya, the colonial government maintained their non resident status in the Malay states and gave British subject status only to the descendants of immigrants in the settlements. Between 1814 to 1860 the British were in a state of non interference. Non interference meant that the different sultan states could decide how they wanted to design their state. Since the colonial government never accepted the Chinese as permanent residents of the country, it is not surprising that the Malay population in Malaysia believed the ... • 3. The Rhetorical Analysis Of William Faulkner s Barn Burning Cold Metal, Hot Flame William Faulkner s Barn Burning is a well versed rendition of the post Civil War era, about the lives of a family of poor tenant farmers. This story s setting is in a fictional (yet almost familiar) county in Mississippi, and is told through the eyes of a young boy. In a detached sort of tone, Faulkner takes us step by step through the ups and downs of Abner s moods, and how his youngest son, Sarty, perceives them. Here is the thesis statement: However, it is Faulkner s style, tone, and use of long, flowing sentences, that most stand out to the reader. . In Barn Burning , Sarty s father, Abner, shows hostility to everyone around him and adds an unspoken element to the setting that you can feel and imagine as you read. You can instantly see how Sarty views his father, always comparing him to a cold hard metal that is tempered by a hot flame: He could see his father against the stars but without face or depth a shape black, flat, and bloodless as though cut from tin in the iron fold of the frockcoat which had not been made for him, the voice harsh like tin and without heat like tin (127). It is ironic for Abner to be compared to a cold metal, when he is totally consumed with a fiery hatred. The reader can almost feel Abner s deep dislike of anyone who owns anything or has money. Faulkner s descriptions are colorful, elaborate, and a key part of his style. Focusing on Abner, the reader senses he thrives off seeking revenge when he feels wronged, and he responds with his emotions and relates it to the destruction caused by fire. However, he only uses fire in what he feels to be extreme circumstances, because the element of fire spoke to some deep mainspring of his father s being, as the element of steel or of powder spoke to other men, as the one weapon for the preservation of integrity, else breath were not worth the breathing, and hence to be regarded with respect and used with discretion (127). Abner s mood is important to the setting in the way that speaks openly about Southern hostility and how it is almost always bottled up inside until the anger and resentment are no longer bearable. That s when the barns burn down. From the reader s point of view, the tone of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is Brown V Board Of Education Essay Although American schools were technically desegregated by the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision handed down in Brown v. Board of Education, in practice they remained largely segregated due to trends in housing and neighborhood segregation. Consequently, busing came to be a main remedy by which the courts sought to end racial segregation in the U.S. schools. The court s 1970 ruling in Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education furthered desegregation efforts by upholding busing as a constitutional means to achieve integration within a school district. Due to patterns of residential segregation, busing became a principal tool for promoting school desegregation, by which minority students were transported to largely white schools and white students were brought to largely minority schools. It was intended to safeguard the Civil Rights of students and to provide equal opportunity in public education. Also, busing was an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Board of Education case initially accomplished relatively little in terms of achieving a truly integrated public education system. The Supreme Court said in 1954 that schools should be integrated, but in the following year, the court allowed the opponents of desegregation to frame the process. Due to the program not receiving sufficient support, allocating sufficient money with which to function well, indifferently staffed, and many areas of resistance, the case consequently remained immobile. However, the Brown v. Board decision itself was a huge step forward: It shifted the way society as a whole viewed race and helped begin to challenge what many people had long considered acceptable. Ultimately, the court case became to be an effective instrument in achieving successful school desegregation, in that its importance was realized and the program became to be adequately financed and wisely ... • 5. Essay about Freedom Riders Freedom Riders Freedom Riders were a group of people, both black and white, who were civil rights activists from the North who meant to demonstrate that segregated travel on interstate buses, even though banned by an I.C.C. Ruling, were still being enforced throughout much of the South (The South 16). The Riders attempted to prove this by having a dozen or so white and black Freedom Riders board buses in the North and travel through Southern cities. This was all a coldly calculated attempt to speed up integration by goading the South, forcing the Southern extremists to explode their tempers ( Freedom Riders 20). The author of the Newsweek article stated this as the Southern opinion of the reason for the Freedom Riders. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several incidents of beatings were reported, sometimes with simple weapons, other times with weapons of mass destruction conducted by local citizens as the freedom riders passed through their city. Very often, the cops were conspicuously absent when the blood began to flow (The South 16). One particularly violent incident on May 14, 1961 occurred when someone threw a bomb into a window of an interstate bus. When the twelve passengers on the bus exited because of the smoke and flames, the waiting mob pulverize beat some of passengers up. The police arrested four men in conjunction with the bombing, yet the four men were only charged with willful damage to vehicles in interstate commerce (State is Warned 1). The fact that this incident was taken so lightly is appalling. Clearly these men should have been punished or convicted more severely. The hurt freedom riders were taken to the local hospital, and none were seriously injured. We examined two articles about the bus bombing incident, one from Time and one from the New York Times. The Time article gave a much more general overview of the incident, and lacked some details, such as who was arrested and why, and the response of the government. The New York Times article discussed this information in great detail. It includes the names of the perpetrators and the reason for their arrest. It also discusses the response of Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tale begins when Mandrake, lord of decay, sends his Boggan warriors to kill the queen of the forest. Nod and his companions, M.K. and Ronin, are tasked with protecting the only thing left of the Queen, her magic Pod. The Queen s magic is the only thing powerful enough to combat the rot, so Nod and his friends must keep the Pod out of Mandrake s hands to protect the life of the forest. However, during all these four decades, this profound relationship experienced many difficulties and challenges, until the last two decades, which marked a new era of political and economic strengthening of their ties. EU China economic relations: a brief overview Europe and China share a long history of bilateral relations and economic cooperation. Trade and economic exchanges go back as long as 20 centuries ago, when the Roman empire formed relations with ancient China in order to trade goods through the Asian continent. The most infamous one is the example of the so called silk roads , paths that enabled cultural interaction and commodity sharing, such as gold and silk, between European (Greek, Roman, Byzantine) and Asian (Chinese, Indian, Persian) civilisations and were carried out by missionary merchants and pilgrim travelers. During the modern history, however, European and China economic relations have gone through many ups and downs, as the international climate affected drammatically their perception of each other. The two World Wars damaged heavily the economies of Europe, while China was still under very low levels of economic development. After the second World War, the US rose as the global economic power and overshadowed the previous European (UK, France, Germany and Netherlands) economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Similarities Between Mill And Martha Nussbaum In today s society, liberty is seen as the presence of free choice in an absence of restraint/interference. For John Locke, liberty is freedom form any superior power or authority and every individual has equal liberty. For John Stuart Mill, liberty can be positive or negative: positive liberty is the possession of full freedom while negative liberty is the absence of coercion/restraints. He claims that positive liberty protects everyone, including the minorities and women; whereas negative liberty is harder to achieve. As discussed later in the paper, Locke and Mill would recognize the United States as a free society. Martha Nussbaum is a feminist liberal. For her, feminism and liberalism go hand in hand because the combination would allow women to preserve/maintain their equality though their own choice. Others would disagree with how I would summarize the story but this I how truly felt after reading it. Sedgewick, and those related to him, had a huge impact on our narrator, Mr. Hundert. Even despite how after his student graduated he was still reminded by all of the experiences he shared with him. The first relationship would of course be Mr. Sedgewick himself. He is complicated boy with high status relations behind him, as he is related to the Senator, his father. During the first interaction with Sedgewick, Mr. Hundert was most likely aware that he was going to be a troublemaker of his class. However seemed shocked once he received Sedgewick s first exams. How poorly he did on it seemed surprising to him as it states, He was a poor student and on his first exam could not even tell me who it was that Mark Antony and Octavian had routed at Philippi, nor who Octavian later became, although an average wood beetle in the floor of my classroom could have done so with ease. • 15. The Association Between Low Hdl Blood Levels And Colonic... Dyslipidemia is a pathological alteration of lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. It is one of the main elements of metabolic syndrome. Epidemiological studies have shown that persons with the metabolic syndrome have an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). One of the possible mechanisms is that lipids and lipoproteins have been found to be associated with neoplastic processes as well as inflammation, insulin resistance and oxidative stress. On the other side, some of the factors that influence lipid and lipoprotein concentration unfavorably (ie. smoking, obesity, a high fat and low fiber diet consumption) can contribute to the development of colon cancer as well. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between low HDL blood levels and colonic cancer. Methods: A retrospective case control study was conducted. A chart review was performed on the charts of 183 patients who were diagnosed with colonic adenoma or carcinoma after having colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy done in our hospital from 1/1/09 till 12/31/10. Information regarding demographics, HDL level, endoscopy and biopsy findings, site of the lesion and the period between endoscopy and the closest HDL measurement we have in our records. Results: Our study population included 183 patients (66 males and 116 females). 86 patients had adenomas while 96 patients were diagnosed with CRC. • 16. Progressives Were Groups Of Reformers Progressives were groups of reformers dedicated to improve the social and the political problems in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They live generally in the towns, were well instructed professionals, and thought the government could be an instrument for the transformation. They started a social movement that turned into a political movement. Unfortunately, the remainder of the population was subject to law incomes, long working hours, risky industrial tools, and unprincipled employers. Progressives believed the problems (poverty, violence, greed, racism, class warfare) that the society faced could best be directed by offering good education, a safe environment, and an efficient workplace. In the words of historian Howard Zinn, the Progressives worked to stabilize the capitalist system by repairing its worst defects. 2and restore some measure of class peace in a time of increasingly bitter clashes between capital and labor (Zinn 354). The progressive tried to reform the United States; however, they were incapable to make significant changes and improve the labors of the working class. The social structure in America pushed people around because the opportunities were not equals. • 17. Critical Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Note On Commercial... Even after the Harlem Renaissance was off the forefront of the nation s mind, Langston Hughes continued to comment on the demoralization that white people have historically done unto the African American community. In his 1940 poem, Note on Commercial Theater , Hughes looked to the writers for Broadway and the presentations of commercial theater and saw the appropriation of black culture and perversion of music introduced by the Harlemites. These writers made the music whiter while stripping the credit from those who established it. Despite not having the recognition of white people at that time, Hughes still knew that someday somebody ll / Stand up and talk about me, / And write about me even if it would only be himself (Note on Commercial Theatre 12 14). Somehow, somewhere, someone would always be able to identify the wrongs white people inflict on others and be able to pay homage to the struggle while still celebrating their culture. His awareness of the ability of the black community to join together and acknowledge progression demonstrates his confidence in that community as a whole. It does not matter whether or not his own words are heard in his time, but instead that someone else will take them to heart and further the progression towards a better situation. The promise of a future ties the entire black community together towards more opportunities for growth. Antigone And Creon Tragic Hero Greek tragedy would be incomplete without a tragic hero; according to Aristotle, that is a man of misfortune that comes to him through error of judgement (Aristotle). A tragic hero possesses a tragic flaw, and although Sophocles named his play Antigone, what was Antigone s flaw? She returns home after a war to find that Creon, king of Thebes, has made a declaration that prohibits the burial of Polyneices, Antigone s brother. In risking her life to bury Polyneices and ultimately being sentenced to death for doing so, she indeed demonstrates some characteristics of Aristotle s ideal tragic hero. This idea was originated when attempting to portray one s nation to be superior compared to the others and therefore, such actions were taken in order gain that economic power. In the given poems as well as the movie, Avatar by James Cameron, it s clearly evident that European imperialism is portrayed negatively with regard to the fact that external nations were invading the native lands and influencing the indigenous people s religion. They had also imposed certain traditions and customs upon the subjects which included a change in religion. In addition, European imperialism was dishonorable because the general idea of invading one s land for any given reason doesn t justify the impact created upon the natives. In Let Freedom Come , Davidson exclaims, I hear you countryman done spoil to West Indies ... I think he want come spoil we country too ( Davidson lines 2 4). Also, African leaders were quite aware of the classic move played upon their nation in terms of building a foundation of skills to control the trade routes which resulted in conquering certain parts of land. Linux is an operating system that was initially created as a hobby by a young student, Linus Torvalds, at the University of Helsinki in Finland. Linus had an interest in Minix, a small UNIX system, and decided to develop a system that exceeded the Minix standards. He began his work in 1991 when he released version 0.02 and worked steadily until 1994 when version 1.0 of the Linux Kernel was released. The current full featured version is 2.4 (released January 2001) and development continues. Process management creates processes, and implements multitasking by switching the active process on the processor. At the lowest level, the kernel contains a hardware device driver for each kind of hardware it supports. Since the world is full of different kinds of hardware, the number of hardware device drivers is large. There are often many otherwise similar pieces of hardware that differ in how they are controlled by software. The similarities make it possible to have general classes of drivers that support similar operations; each member of the class has the same interface to the rest of the kernel but differs in what it needs to do to implement them. For example, all disk drivers look alike to the rest of the kernel, i.e., they all have operations like `initialize the drive , `read sector N , and `write sector N . Some software services provided by the kernel itself have similar properties, and can therefore be abstracted into classes. For example, the various network protocols have been abstracted into one programming interface, the BSD socket library. Another example is the virtual filesystem (VFS) layer that abstracts the filesystem operations away from their implementation. Each filesystem type provides an implementation of each filesystem operation. When some entity tries to use a filesystem, the request goes via the VFS, which routes the request to the proper filesystem driver. 3. Linux Distributions 1.Debian : Debian official ... Higher education may put those attending into future debt that may be difficult to pay back. Many students struggling with affording payments may experience schedule conflicts between work and school. Providing free tuition not only helps the citizens of America to have a better future, but also helps the country. The price to receive a degree can be very expensive for many people who cannot afford it. Students who pay for their own tuition might come from a family where saving money for college was not an option. Many families lean towards taking out loans to cover tuition cost. Taking out a loan can be very complicated with the high interest that is added when paying it back. At the time parents or students decide to take a loan out, they do not think about how they will repay the debt. After receiving a degree many people find themselves trapped because finding a job to pay the loan back can take a while if at all. The 1920s flapper demonstrated how women could transform into something that is a part of the modern construction of women s identity. The flapper was a major part of The Roaring Twenties . The flapper was how young women sought to define themselves. Prior to the 1920s American women were seen in a very traditional light. They were meant to stay in the backgrounds of their husbands. Their dresses were meant to cover all the parts of their bodys. Women were told to follow the traditional and subservient roles. With the ending of World War 1, Europe was in ruins, America became seen as the center of the world s stage. The war caused many American women to take factory jobs as result of the men enlisting in the war effort. They took these jobs because once the husband left there was no source of income coming to the family. So the women had to go to work to receive income to feed their families. Also, they started to work at the factories so they could make guns, bombs, food, and clothes to send to the troops in Europe who were fighting in the war. The government expectations through the CAFE standards on consumer cost benefit analysis on purchasing an eco friendlier car is not realistic to what consumers truly value. The problem with these governmental standards is that they do not efficiently satisfy the needs of both the consumers and manufacturers within the automobile industry. Although the data suggests that the net benefits certainly outweigh the costs in the long run, what is not seen are the costs incurred to manufacturers over time. Using the economic theories of the Keynesian Model, from That which is seen, and that which is not seen , and supply and demand, we will discuss the implications of these imposed standards and suggest our own recommendations for solving this problem. Supply and demand is the most basic principle of economics. Supply and demand have an inverse relationship to each other for very simple reasons. When demand increases, people buy more of an item, thus lowering supply. If supply increases, then items demand of an item is decreased unless the price is lowered. The way that this case is affected by supply and demand is when the CAFÉ standards are enacted the price of vehicles will go up due to the increased costs of production. Although this may be true it doesn not cure anything it does what any other drug does give you a false sense of happiness. The way this drug works as soon as it enters the bloodstream it goes straight for you brain. Specifically it goes to the part of your brain that produces serotonin. Serotonin essentially is the chemical your brain produces when your happy. MDMA or ecstasy goes for the serotonin to push out as much as it can. Another danger of this drug is it can be sold to people who do not know what it looks like for something more dangerous. This may be harmful because serotonin is what regulates your overall mood and body temperature. When this much serotonin is pushed out the body temperature is can go up to 110 degrees fahrenheit or higher. At 110 degrees fahrenheit blood starts to coagulate in the past 2 decades dozens of users died to this (John C.). This is a dangerous short term effect of MDMA but there are other dangerous effects of MDMA that are long term as well. As the ecstasy forces serotonin out it reshapes the brain cells that produces chemicals. A recent study pinning people who have never taken ecstasy vs people who took it 2 weeks prior shows that there are less serotonin receptors in people who have taken ecstasy. This makes it harder for your body to regulate emotions so mood swings occur frequently. Depending on how hard the mood swing hits this could be dangerous. Another danger of ecstasy is it s look, it looks like almost all other medicine. This can be dangerous because you never know if it will show up in your medicine cabinet by mistake (it is not likely to happen but there have been cases). More short term symptoms for ecstasy include paranoia, addiction, muscle tension and worst case scenario death. Other long term effects of ecstasy include kidney failure, hemorrhage, and ... Foreign magazine taking up to 89 percent of the magazine industry in Canada is indeed a big blow to the culture of the land. Americanization is gradually taking over the culture of the people. The existence of globalization has made it possible and easier for people to unconsciously adapt new lifestyles. This was one of the fears of the Canadian government at the beginning when she was introducing taxes on foreign magazine. My manager holds me accountable for my responsibilities and contribution towards organization goals by clearly explaining what is expected out of me and my team, my job responsibilities, my contribution, how it contributes to organization success and Why my role is important? I replicate the same and hold myself and my team accountable for high level of performance needed, for any misses, or for any tough decisions needed for the benefit of the organization. When you realize that you made a decision that backfired, you easily can blame it on somebody else but then how will that impact others, what will be your credibility? Such things made me more positive towards taking responsibility of action and that had a very positive impact on me and my team. My team when saw me doing this, was willing to take accountability for their actions and responsibilities rather than shrugging it on each other. That really helped in forming a strong team that is firmly bonded by trust.
