Anxiety In Tell-Tale-Heart By Edgar Allan Poe
In the story,Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe,Poe describes anxiety in many different ways.First, the
narrator tells us about his confrontation with the police They were making a mockery of my
horror(Poe 94). The narrator is slight crazy. He thinks they are laughing at him but, they really aren t
.The narrator could not understand why they were smiling with a faded grin and it really upsetted
him.But before we get to that part, let s talk about what led him there. The old man and the narrator
lived together. The narrator never had any problems with the man,but he kept going into his room
stalking him. It is evident that the old man is scared because The old man sprang up in bed, crying out

The old man stayed up for a long time knowing someone was in the room, but he couldn t hear or see
him. The narrator stood for a long time telling himself When I had waited a long time, very
patiently, without hearing him lie down (Poe 91). This shows the setting because they waited a long
time without moving a muscle. Finally,The man grabbed the old man a shook him down off his bed
striking him for many minutes. He chopped the body up in many parts. He hid the body parts under the
floorboards and put the blood in the tub. This shows setting because everything that happened took
place in that room. The man was planning a week to finish his mission and it was finally
accomplished. And this I did for seven long nights every night just at midnight (Poe 91). Lastly, the
police came to the room. They didn t even suspect anything wrong, until the main character went

He felt the cops heard it too but, they weren t saying anything just to mock him. He eventually

them describes a thought, feeling, fear or scary setting that makes you nervous.Even as a reader. These

Locke And Hobbes
Thomas Aquinas can be best described as a merge of Aristotelianism eudaimonism and Christian
theology. He is known for blending these two subjects, although he did not directly accept every
notion that Aristotle believed in. Theology s primary interest in a person is the principle of his actions,
according to Hobbes. To judge these actions, he considers 3 topics: the object, the intention, and the
circumstances that make up the three sources of the morality of human acts. The object chosen is a
good toward which the will guides itself, it is the matter of a human feat. The object chosen morally
specifies the act, and is judged if it is within the true good. Unbiased criterions of morality express the
balanced order of good and evil, indicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Locke and Thomas Hobbes both submitted differing versions of this state in Two Treatises of
Government and Leviathan. Locke adheres to the Natural Law belief which asserts that men
intrinsically have ethical sense which curbs them from participating in deplorable acts. These men
know what is right and wrong and what is lawful, and can resolve conflicts reasonably. In natural state
all people were equal, and everyone had a right to defend his or her life, health, liberty, or possessions.
Therefore, Locke believed in a self ruling, civil society, unlike Hobbes. Hobbes s ultimate ambition is
to secure as many pleasures as possible and to avoid pain and aversions with no regard for others. He
is primarily focused on Self Interest, a core tenant of Hobbism. He believes people have no conception
of good and evil, instead it is up to their culture or upbringing to decide this. Justice or Property do not
exist, only egoism, which he believes is logical. Hobbes believes that the state of nature is therefore
not corrupt, or obscene, but plainly amoral. There are no morals, according to

City Of Boston Case Summary
1. Identify the various types of goods (private, public, and in between) involved in this case. What was
the primary objective being sought, and how was it being financed? Explain the unintended
consequences of the financing approach. Is that financing approach appropriate for the type of good
involved?
In the case involving the City of Boston and its residents, various types of goods exist. The primary
resource that is being debated in this case study is water. In this instance, water is both a public and
private good. It is public when the City of Boston provides it and private when it is dispensed by a
private well. Therefore, in this situation, water has many different characteristics as it is both

Charging the users of wells is justifiable as the city maintains the obligation of disposing of the
expended water. In the Boston case study, it was mentioned that Legal Sea Foods uses a well capable
of providing 15,000 gallons per day for laundry and other uses. Levying a significant fee to dispose of
and treat this water, as well as charging a permit fee for installing a well, should dissuade people from
leaving the city s potable water

Mann Act Case
The volume of Mann Act cases began to decline in the 1930s as juries had become less willing to
convict someone for consensual sex unrelated to prostitution. Although, as late as 1959, a federal
judge still determined that a Mann Act conviction was apt simply for having the intent to violate the
law, as long as the man had crossed state line. He stated, Proof that he accomplished his illicit purpose
is not necessary to conviction. However, the terms of the law have been amended multiple times since
its passage. The Mann Act still exists, but it had become broadly viewed as antiquated by the 1970s.
For example, Jackie Gleason s character, Sheriff Buford T. Justice, planned to charge Burt Reynolds
with the Mann Act for taking Sally Field on a cross country joy ride during the film Smokey and the
Bandit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were valid concerns that this federal agency could abuse its power and those fears were realized
with the Mann Act. Mann Act investigations opened the door for unnecessary snooping into the
personal lives of influential public figures who government officials wanted to subvert. For instance,
the first black heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Johnson, was one of the earliest men to be
convicted under the Mann Act. He had a swagger and lifestyle that was a slap in the face to Jim Crow
standards. In the ring, he taunted his opponents, all of whom were white and one of his victories even
caused a race riot. Furthermore, Johnson also openly dated white women and often had a harem of
white prostitutes parading around his training

Nazi engineer Ferdinand Porsche had on Germany s effort to gain power throughout history. A critical
analysis of the actions of Ferdinand Porsche and the Porsche company during the rise and fall of the
Nazi empire during 1933 to 1945 in Germany and Europe will be looked at. Secondly, to what extent
was Porsche s products engineering to blame for this fall. However the German economy had already

Source D also bring in another aspect. That is that Ferdinand Porsche was at a small extent to blame
for the fall of this regime. The evidence is there and should not be neglected. The argument put forth is
one that the calibre of Mr Ferdinand Porsche s weapons were far inferior to that of the allies and were
not advanced enough. Due to this fault the German regime was deteriorating as they could not fend of
their competitors.
However these viewpoints are weak and are simply not logical. A man of calibre such as Mr
Ferdinand Porsche would not have aided the USSR with weaponry, simply due to his personal
relationship to Adolf Hitler and his strong connection to Nazism. But indeed the third aspect
mentioned should definitely be taken into account. That is that the caliber and capacity of his weapons
were inferior to that of the Western allies which intern puts a minute extent of the blame of the Nazi
empire on Mr

Gene Therapy Research Paper
Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene therapy is described as the transplantation of normal genes into
cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. 1 During the 1960 s
and early 70 s the actual concept of what is now known to be gene therapy arose. Many new practices
including the development of genetically marked cell lines and the delineation of cells transformation
by the papaovaviruses polyoma were in the works. Cloned genes became a product of this new DNA
technique and were used to prove that foreign genes could actually correct genetic disorders.2 This
new technology in the medical field has a wide range of uses that is constantly growing larger as
scientists continue to study and experiment with it. As of right now, the uses of gene therapy in the
medical field consist of replacing missing or defective genes, delivering genes that speed the
destruction of cancer cells, supplying genes that cause cancer cells to revert to their normality,
delivering bacterial or viral genes as a form of vaccination, providing genes that promote or impede
the growth of new tissue and delivering genes that stimulate the healing of damaged tissue.3 With this
information, a wide variety of genes are now being used for testing within gene therapy. In the mid
1980 s the first use of gene therapy was practiced and then seen in a four year old girl when she
became the first gene therapy patient on September 14, 1990 at the NH Clinical Center. This four year

Pornography Addiction
Growth of Computers
With the evolution of technology, computers have become more and more advanced due to the
knowledge learned from technicians and other people throughout the world. The first computer
invented was called the Z1 by Konrad Zuse in 1938. In 2017, there is almost an 80 year difference
from when the computer was made, meaning a lot of time to find out more information and put
together better product because of the first piece of technology. With the growth of computers, other
problems such as online pornography, cyber spying hackers, and other crimes have affected the basic
computer ethics for each individual. These problems can have a dramatic impact on people as they can
cause addiction, and the use of personal information to steal money or other important values.
Pornography Addiction
Porn is a constant problem for a numerous amount of people because they become addicted to having
the sexual desire of intimacy with another person. It causes individuals to take time out of their day to
watch mature scenes of other people having different kinds of sexual intercourse depending on the
person s wide variety of options to choose from. Studies show that porn actually rewires the brain to
form a deeply focused attention on the subject instead of other activities that could be done. Porn
happens to be fantastic at forming new, long lasting pathways in the brain. In fact, porn is such a
ferocious competitor that hardly any other activity can

The Plight Of Untouchable A Satanic Curse On Society
Untouchability Satanic curse on society
Untouchability is one of dangerous evils existing in our society. We are in 21st century but the
condition of untouchables in Indian society is still a matter of concern. Form ancient time they are
being treated worse than animals at the hand of upper caste. Although the government has banned
the caste discrimination since 1950 but the plight of untouchables is still a matter of concern. The
emergence of so many regional political parties in India has only magnified this problem. They have
been given the lowest position in the social hierarchy and from the time immemorial, they are being
treated as nothing but puppets or tools at the hands of political parties.

Similarly, like another famous Indian writer, Mulk Raj Anand penned down masterpiece
called Untouchable which was published in 1935, in which he dealt with different types of
exploitations like economic, political, social religious and sexual. But social exploitation is mother
who gives birth to all other types of exploitations. The caste discrimination out of this social evil gives
undue advantages to upper castes by birth.
In his novel, Mulk Raj Anand throws light on the plight of downtrodden and untouchables through

Emily Dickinson s Poetry And Poetry
Emily Dickinson s poems They shut me up in Prose and I Dwell in Possibility on the surface may
seem similar, both having the same structure, three four lined stanzas, and punctuation. However, they
convey different messages. Typically Dickinson writes dark, meditative and defiant toned poems
about death, gender and poetry itself, often challenging social beliefs and traditions. Each poem sticks
to these pre modernist views and styles, but place the emphasis on different aspects of her common
themes. Although the poems are similar in form and their uses of metaphors, the focus of these poems
are different, I dwell in Possibility focuses on the limitless possibilities of poetry and the power
associated with it, while They shut me up in Prose discusses the role of a female poet being free of
social restraints in a mans world through poetry, together these individual themes convey Dickinson s
emphatic view of poetry s ability to free women from social prejudices.
In I dwell in Possibility Emily Dickenson compares poetry to prose in the first few lines. Prose is
written in the normal syntax of everyday conversation. It has no metrical structure, as well; it is
tedious and lacks expression. After the first two lines however, prose is not mentioned any further.
This could possibly be because there is not much left to desired in prose or Dickinson is refraining
from giving prose any further recognition. To Dickinson, poetry is limitless in possibilities, which she

Theme Of Order In The Tale Of Sinuhe
In the Tale of Sinuhe , the path of Sinuhe s flight or more aptly put, his journey of self, is one that is
indubitably complex it resonates with the concept of uprooting oneself from a semblance of normality
( order ) into a state of unfamiliarity ( chaos ). This paradigm shift, due to an irrational response to fear
on Sinhue s part, leads to an existential crisis whereby the course of his trajectory and social identity is
questioned extensively. Subsequently, throughout the tale the themes of rational and irrational thought,
self vs. other and order vs. chaos are explored and as a result contribute to Sinuhe s journey of self and
restoration of his true identity as an Egyptian.
In the beginning of the tale, the virtues of Sinuhe s character and loyalty are called into question. As a
royal courtier belonging to the virtues of Egypt, fleeing his home was in effect, an unwitting
renunciation of all his culture s values. (Parkinson, 1997:22) Thus, Sinuhe s flight, an ... Show more

even an implication that Egypt is superior to that of Syria this is implied through the use of Other to

he views as the other as they essentially rescued him both literally and figuratively. Literally, in the
sense that they rescued him from his impending death and the figurative rescuing of himself,
essentially from himself. This flight or journey of self enabled Sinuhe to gain an acute awareness and
understanding of other cultures as well as the differences between self vs. other . These said

The Invisible Mother And Lennie Analysis
The Invisible Mother and Lennie
When a person thinks of a true motherly bond they most likely think of warmth, happiness, someone
safe, and reliable. In of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Lennie has to live a life without his mother
and because of that it affects the rest of his life . Not having access to the sacred feeling of a mother s
love can alter anyone s life. That is why Lennie realizes he needs something to fill that hole in his
heart with something that at least resembles a mother s love. If that bond is taken away then a person
is left bare to the elements of the cold harsh world. There is something about soft creatures that gives
Lennie a sense of serenity and inner peace. The inner peace he gets is the reason why Lennie from Of
Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, loves mice, puppies, rabbits, and anything soft because it
represents a true motherly love he never had. Mice in the novel has a deeper symbolic meaning than
just it being a petite pet. What Lennie loves about mice is their reliability and stability. These soft
natured mice are so easy to find for Lennie. Mice also have a motherly quality that Lennie never had.
A true mother is known for always being there no matter what. In the beginning of the book Lennie
and George are walking towards their new job, Lennie is holding a mouse but George catches him,
George says You gonna give me that mouse or do i have to sock you? ... Lennie reluctantly reached in
his pocket. I don t know why I can t keep it. It ain t nobody s mouse. I didn t steal it. I found it lyin
right beside the road (9). As long as Lennie is looking for mice then the mice are alway there for
Lennie. The only thing stopping him most of the time is George. That is why Lennie needs to sneak
around to get what he loves. Even though he loves the mice he is a danger to them. In a way when
Lennie is with the mice he feels like he has mother again but when a mouse bites him he goes back to
reality and kills it. When he kills the mice he feels remorse and then makes the desperate search to
find something to replace it. It s important because Lennie never had an accepting person s shoulder to
cry on. Even though Lennie has a mental handicap the need for reliability is evident.

Gender Roles In The Daughters Of England
The text The Daughters of England , is a book written to provide guidance for young women,
pertaining to their character and behaviour; the book creates the framework for the role of women in
the household. It instructs that women must offer a virtuous influence on men as wives, mothers, and
daughters as part of their role within society. Estimated to have been written in 1842, in London,
Daughters of England was penned by Sarah Stickney Ellis; a popular author of Victorian conduct
literature. Ellis popularity implies that the source was widely circulated at the time, thus represents an
important view of contemporary society. This document reveals to us the ideals expected of middle
class women of the time, and the principles that were envisioned for them, relating in particular to the
separate spheres ideology.
This ideology outlines and endorses separate spheres for women and men, the domestic and public
spheres. This idea derived from the natural features of each gender. As women were considered to be
physically weaker than men, they were more suitable to belong to the private sphere. As Ellis writes,
women s strength is in her influence , demonstrating the view that, though physically fragile, women
were morally superior to men.
Raised in a single parent household, Ellis developed a strong sense of morals regarding home life.
Having helped raise her siblings, we can infer that this influenced her belief in the importance of
women in a matriarchal role. Ellis writes of the necessity to be educated properly, stating that school
education forms but a very small part of that which they will be expected to possess . This statement
can be reinforced from the Victorian notion that a woman of the upper or middle class, though did
receive an education, were expected to become accomplished as opposed to academically
knowledgeable. , thus Ellis s writings can be regarded as typical of the time.
The source tells young women that they must be content to be inferior to men , a statement that
corroborates with the contemporary laws of England. Society was deeply patriarchal, with men legally
authorised to use physical violence to chastise his wife as she belonged to him. Women who wanted to
separate

Both have London dispersion force drawing them together.
These two are isoelectronic so the London force should be the same. This is manifested in similar

5. Why does liquid propane (C3H8) boil at a much lower temperature than gasoline (C8H18)?
Both are pure hydrocarbons and are non polar (symmetry causes dipoles to cancel). Both have london
dispersion force. Propane has 26 electrons, gasoline has 66. Since gasoline has more electrons, it has a
higher london dispersion force and so has a higher boiling temperature than propane.

Traditional Teaching And Traditional Learning Approach In...
In a flipped learning approach, lecture and homework are switched. Students watch lectures at home
prior to class and class time is spent expanding on content through collaborative learning and content
exercises. This model moves the learning environment from teacher centered to student centered,
allowing students to become responsible for their learning environment. The teacher takes a step back
and has the students take over the reins in the classroom. Instead of showing the students what to do,
the teacher would guide and mentor them in order for them to be able to draw their own conclusions
and produce their own outcomes.
For a flipped learning approach to work, everyone must be on board. There are several benefits to
flipped learning versus the traditional teaching model. A traditional classroom is teacher centered,
doesn t foster deep learning and is filled with passive learners. A flipped classroom, is learner
centered, promotes deeper learning and filled with active learners.
Not all flipped classrooms are the same. There are different types of models that support specific

Examples Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451
In Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451, multiple ideas and themes are shown similar between
Bradbury s envisioned society and today s society. Technology, increase in efficiency due to
technology, and thrill seeking behaviors, are all ideas that are portrayed by Bradbury.
Technology is a common similarity that is brought up many times in both Fahrenheit s society and is
often brought up in today s society. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that television
would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. One might argue that the
introduction of the internet and social media has led people to prefer cyber relationships over human
relationships. An example of this in today s society could be the people on the subway train. We tend
to refrain from communication with others and the best way to do that is by entering our virtual reality
in our technology. But, this hasn t happened to an extent portrayed in the book. Montag, the main
character, begins to interact with a girl named Clarisse in the book, she asks him questions like, Are
you happy (pg.10). In Fahrenheit 451 s society, people haven t totally lost the ability or will to connect
to one another in person. Bradbury provides many examples of how technology has blinded people in
his envisioned society. Mildred, Montag s wife, is a perfect example of how technology is slowly
consuming the lives of people in Fahrenheit 451. Everyday Mildred sits in her room surrounded by a

the pardoner s appearance is recognized as a blonde haired man who is loved by everyone he

Inconsistency in Adam Bede by George Eliot Essay
Inconsistency in Adam Bede
In George Eliot s Adam Bede, an inconsistency can be found between Dinah s firmly held convictions
and her decision to
marry. Throughout the story, Eliot presents Dinah as a symbol of divine love who persistently shuns
all earthly pleasures of her
own for the benefit of those in need. Several passages in the text show that Dinah insists she must
follow the path God has
chosen for her and prevent her own needs and desires from rising to the surface. Despite her moral
protestations, however,
Dinah marries Adam in the last few pages of the book. This marriage is disappointing in another sense
as well. Dinah was not

We see here
that Dinah is not one to be caught up in the external world. Her mind is occupied with thoughts of
what it has to give out,
indicating not only that she is charitable, but also that she is not in the process of observing and
making judgements. Her eyes
do not even appear to be making observations, but are instead simply shedding love. She is so entirely
absorbed in her
spirituality that in her mind the outer world is insignificant. This is evident in the way she dresses as
well. We are told that she
wears no adornments; she is always plainly dressed in a Quaker bonnet and a black dress. She does
not try to put on a false
front by embellishing her appearance. She is described as simple and candid (34).
Following this initial physical description of Dinah is a series of occurrences in which the reader
discovers that Dinah is so
selfless and devout that she denies herself a life of her own. On the very first night that we are
introduced to her we find that she
is resolved ...to live and die without husband or children... (45). Seth accompanies her home from the
service and makes use
of their time alone together as an opportunity to propose to her. She denies his proposal: I seem to
have no room in my soul
for wants or fears of my own, it has pleased God to fill my heart so full with the wants and suffering
of his poor people (45).

Comparing Odysseus The Odyssey And Today s Pop Culture
In Ancient Greece and today s pop culture, it is often seen for a heroic figure to face a villain who is
either simpleminded or naïve. This is evident in the epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer. There is a
scene in the graphic novel by Gareth Hinds, that introduces the gullible cyclopes Polyphemus. With
little effort, Odysseus makes a fool out of the Cyclops. Odysseus tricks the Cyclops several times,
either when he gets him drunk or when Odysseus tells him his name. In Ancient Greek times,
intelligence was seen to be an important cultural value. It was often seen for gods and blessed human
men to face challenges where their intelligence is tested. When comparing Odysseus and the cyclopes
story to pop culture, J.K Rowling s Harry Potter, and Philosopher s Stone, is relevant. When the
characters encounter a large and unintelligent mountain troll. These stories have overlapping ideas that

The Atkins Diet Essay
The Atkins Diet, a high protein, high fat, low carbohydrate diet was introduced in 1972 by Dr. Robert
C. Atkins, MD. Dr. Atkins believed that a diet high in sugar forced the pancreas to produce the
hormone insulin, causing the body to store calories as fat. He believed that if we consumed fewer
carbohydrates, then our bodies would produce less insulin. By doing so, our bodies would use stored
fat for energy, resulting in weight loss. (1) The Atkins Diet consists of four phases. The first phase,
referred to as the Induction Phase, lasts for a period of two weeks. During this phase, the dieter has to
severely restrict their carbohydrate intake to twenty grams per day. This restriction is necessary for the
body to enter ketosis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are then to follow the glycemic index called The Atkins Glycemic Ranking . This index ranks
new foods to be introduced into the diet that will not significantly raise insulin levels. The fourth and
last phase of The Atkins Diet is called Lifetime Maintenance . Dieters begin this phase once their
weight loss goals are met. Dieters are allowed to eat more carbohydrates, however only enough that
will not cause them to gain weight. Breads and other starchy foods will always be severely restricted.
This phase is meant to last a lifetime, and Dr. Atkins claims that eating like this causes people to
become much healthier and reduces their chances of chronic diseases. (2) Certain types of foods are
permitted while on The Atkins Diet . Most protein rich foods that have little to no carbohydrates are
allowed such as meats, seafood, and eggs. Cheeses are allowed, however the dieter needs to read the
food labels to be sure that they do not contain a large amount of carbohydrates. Fats and oils are
recommended but the dieter needs to make sure that they do not include any which contain Tran s fats.
Virgin or extra virgin olive oils are highly recommended. For frying purposes, the dieter should use
canola, peanut or grape seed oil. Cold water fish is advised as a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids.
Mayonnaise, butter, and salad dressings are allowed on the Atkins Diet, however when using salad
dressings, the dieter needs to

Analysis Of Sara Teasdale s Poem I Am Not Yours
I Am Not Yours by Sara Teasdale is about how she views love and how she would like to fall in love.
To begin, she uses the line, Lost as a candle lit at noon. This, with the rest of the lines in the first
stanza suggest that she has not fallen in love yet and desires to be so in love that she is fully engrossed
in this person. She uses this simile to pose the idea that she wants to love someone so much that she is
like a candle s flame that one cannot see because it s light out. In the same way, she uses rhyming to
make the poem flow smoother. The rhyming and rhythm of the poem could propose the thought that
she thinks that the journey into falling in love will be a peaceful and fluid coarse. Also, Teasdale uses

Voter Turnout In The United States
Voter participation and turnout is the percentage of eligible voters that vote in elections. The voter
turnout has decreased since the 1960 s. In 2014, the voter turnout during the election season was the
lowest in the history of the United States. That s about 36% of registered to vote individuals actually

elections tend to have a much higher voter participation. In 2012, 58% of registered voters cast their

In the United States, campaign financing is financing for electoral campaigns at all governmental
levels (federal, state, and local). The cost for elections steadily rises year after year, making candidates
obligated to accept donations and contributions to their campaign. States regulate finances and

Effects Of Stress On A Young Student s Development
It is known that students face various stress related issues, whether it is a major test, an oral
presentation, strict parents or just the stress of maintaining a good GPA. However, people may not
realize that certain stress related issues can have a huge impact on a young student s development and
even carry these issues into adulthood. College students are typically between ages 18 25, which is an
important life stage called emerging adulthood, as Jeffrey Jensen Arnett (2007) has written about
several times in his journals. Emerging adulthood is the transition from adolescence into adulthood. It
is not a quick transition, but a gradual transition from adolescence to this period of development.

After being exposed to video game playing or watching, the participants took a survey. It was
generally found that students play video over doing homework. Also, while lower GPA and video
games were related, mostly males showed correlation between violent video games and a lower GPA.
Also, a study by Nelson found that the transition of emerging adulthood marks significant physical
activity decline, along with high TV gaming. (Nelson 2005). During this study, seven clusters of
adolescence with various physical activity levels and sedentary behaviors were studied and given a
questionnaire. The study predicted that with the current questionnaire that was performed, that
physical activity levels in all clusters declined during young adulthood. (Nelson 2005). Students who
experience stress are not going to want to come home to study or do homework or even go out to
exercise. Looking at these studies, it is concluded that stress in students can lead to more TV, video
games and less physical activity, which is correlated with lower GPA and poor school performance.
With these sedentary behaviors habits effecting cognitive development in young adults, it is likely that
the same behaviors and stress handling may also be brought into adulthood.
Social Domain
The next domain that can be negatively influenced by stress is social development. Social

Effects Of The Progressive Era
Many social movements throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries shaped the Progressive Era.
Towards the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century the economy was thriving.
Industrialization was blooming with new achievements that were being brought to America. However,
many problems were also brought. The Progressive Era tackled these problems. The Progressive Era

sequence of steps, along with key questions to ask the client company.
The first consideration is to define the product: is it a luxury product, which is promoted partially
upon its image of exclusivity, or is the item a product that is promoted primarily on value? The price
of the item will eventually have to enable the company to be in the black, so even if the product is

as a pricing strategy throughout the product s lifecycle would not be advised. However, initial
penetration pricing can be used to encourage consumers to try the product: Penetration
pricing...skimming pricing by entering the market with a tangible product or service at a low price in
order to appeal to the mass market immediately (7.4 Pricing policies, n.d, Advanced Diploma in
Logistics and Management). In some instances, such as the development of a new form of technology
or a drug, to recoup the initial outlay of R D costs, an opposite strategy is deployed: A skimming price
policy is the use of a high initial price, often three to four times the factory cost, with the knowledge
that the price

The First Doctor From Doctor Who Said Is The Optimist
The Ninth Doctor from Doctor Who said, I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far flung

learning English and an increase of ESL students in our schools. This a border city from the United
States and Mexico. I want to have the students learn English so they could go to universities or college

The variation will see the accents, chronological of English language, and the social communication.
We need them to understand the difference of accents in different areas of Texas. Just because
someone might say the word different but it means the same. The teacher needs to make the children
understand that having an accent is nothing wrong because everyone has one. We need to teach the
teachers about historical roots of English or chronological development of English language. They
need to understand how the language of English has changed and developed. Once, they learn this
then they could apply how technology is changing language. The students need to understand that
language changes and will keep changing but they need to understand that language is a tool of
communication. Then introduce students how to use language in social events. That it s different to

Formative Critique
espond Danielle, I really like the format of this lesson. You make it fun during the reading by asking
the students questions that are silly and have no correct response, but engage the students in the story.
Your formative assessment is nice. I like the way you practice with the whole class so no one student
is singled out and feels pressured if they do not comprehend the information. Then, you travel to a
more in depth assessment of individual students by analyzing them segmenting the words on their
own. Critique I really like the way you formatted this assessment. A critique I have is that I am a bit
confused on the coins. I do not really understand their purpose in this assessment. I am sure that you
have a purpose for them, but that

Wage Inequality And Sex Work
Within various schools of feminist thought, wage inequality and sex work are often prime focuses.
Wage inequality, or the gender pay gap, is generally discussed as a broad problem affecting all
women. However, this broad approach often leaves out marginalized women, such as women of color,
poor women, trans women, queer women, and immigrant women, who experience wage inequality at
disproportionately higher rates than women who are not marginalized in these ways. The same lack of
intersectional focus colors discussions of sex work, which typically promote a victim/empowered
woman dichotomy that fails to account for the nuanced factors in place affecting women of color,
trans women, and immigrant women. While it is important that feminist ... Show more content on

This paper will refer to both domestic labor and women s labor in similar respects, but the two are not
necessarily interchangeable. The use of the phrase domestic labor refers to work done within the
home, particularly childcare, elderly care, and the upkeep of the household. The term women s work
or women s labor encompasses domestic labor, but not all women s labor is necessarily domestic. In
her chapter Industrialization, Wage Labor, and the Economic Gender Gap , Estelle Freedman describes
historically feminized fields of work that include other types of labor, such as industrial work in textile
mills, retail, clerical, and teaching jobs. When referring to sex work, Laura Agustin uses the term in
Migrants in the Mistress s House to encompass everything from prostitution, sexual services in bars,
clubs, and flats, erotic phone sex, peep shows, massage parlors, and lap dancing (110). However, she
often does not differentiate between sex work and domestic work because migrants often move
between these sectors or work in two at once, and because a separation into two groups reproduces a
scheme of good versus bad girls (97). For the sake of clarity, however, this paper will differentiate
between traditional women s labor

Antwone Fisher Symbolism
Throughout the two movies, Gus Van Sant and Denzel Washington used both language and stylistic
features to present the idea of a personal journey, in particular, through the use of symbolism. In the
film, Antwone fisher, Washington uses a symbol of women. The beginning of the film shows how
Antwone was mistreated and abused as a child through flashbacks. In this case the symbol of women
is used to symbolise worthlessness and insignificance as he is abused and beaten by his foster mother
and raped by his foster sister. As the film progresses Antwon meets and becomes romantically
involved with a woman, Cheryl, who is also in the navy. With Cheryl by his side Antwone is able to
stand up to his foster mother and no longer let her push him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Later as his maths skills become more and more evident to the professor, will is offered job
opportunities that could set him up for life and insure him of a brighter future. This again symbolises a
personal journey for will as maths opens a brighter more secure future.
By using symbolism as a stylistic feature Gus Van Sant and Denzel Washington are able to
successfully present the idea of a personal journey to their intended audiences.
Social language
Both Gus Van Sant and Denzel Washington successfully use language to present the idea of the
journey in their films however each one uses a different form of language. In Antwone Fisher,
Antwone uses body language or violence to shut people out and create a shield between his emotions
and the outside world, protecting people from getting to him and hurting him. When Antwone starts
seeing a councillor he learns to talk about his feelings and learns to deal with his anger without
violence. In the end of the film Antwone is a different man. He is calm and much more happier and
open as he has learnt to open up about his feelings and deal with emotions in a constructive way. He
learns to talk to people rather than just turning to violence to solve his issues. This shows a social
journey as Antwone learns to talk to people about how he feels rather than putting up a wall and using
violence to shut people out.
Throughout the film of Good Will Hunting, Will is in a very similar

Jay Gatsby And Daisy Relationship
Jay Gatsby is a wealthy man from West Egg New York. Gatsby is known by everyone and is very
famous for his extravagant and lavish parties. Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan first met in Daisy s
hometown of Louisville in 1917. Daisy s best friend, Jordan Baker, described the time she caught the
two kissing in Daisy s car to Nick, explaining, They [Daisy and Gatsby] were so engrossed in each
other that she didn t see me until I was five feet away... The officer looked at Daisy while she was
speaking, in a way that every young girl wants to be looked at sometime,... His name was Jay
Gatsby... (Fitzgerald 79 80). The way that Jordan describes this situation paints a clear imagine in the

He comes back from the war and is now abundantly wealthy. He purchases a mansion in West Egg,
New York, directly across the lake from East Egg (Fitzgerald 83), where his old love Daisy now lives
with her husband, Tom. He begins to throw elegant parties, hoping that one day Daisy will show up to
one of his parties and he will be able to reunite with her (Fitzgerald 84). One day, Nick invited Daisy
over for tea, reuniting Gatsby and Daisy. They rekindle their old love, and sparks fly. They spend
increasing amounts of time together, making Gatsby once again fall head over heels for Daisy. Gatsby
invites Daisy to one of his parties, and after the party, he explains to Nick that he felt as though she did
not like it (Fitzgerald 116). He also reveals that all he wants is for Daisy to tell Tom that she never
loved him, to which Nick responds by telling Gatsby he should not ask her to do very much because
he cannot repeat what happened in the past (Fitzgerald 116). Gatsby then says that he is going to make
sure that he is going to make everything that him and Daisy had come back and it will be like it used
to be (Fitzgerald 117). Nick then thinks to himself ... he [Gatsby] wanted to recover something, some
idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy. His life had been confused and disordered
since then, but if he could once return to a certain starting place and

On the Virtues of Private Property in Locke and Rousseau
John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau, following their predecessor Thomas Hobbes, both attempt to
explain the development and dissolution of society and government. They begin, as Hobbes did, by
defining the state of nature a time before man found rational thought. In the Second Treatise[1] and
the Discourse on Inequality[2], Locke and Rousseau, respectively, put forward very interesting and
different accounts of the state of nature and the evolution of man, but the most astonishing difference
between the two is their conceptions of property. Both correctly recognize the origin of property to be
grounded in man s natural desire to improve his life, but they differ ... Show more content on

In that vein, there exists natural competition between men over food and other necessities, and
although the stronger may yield temporary power over the weaker in an individual situation, the
power is neither absolute nor permanent. All men have both a responsibility and a right to enforce the
law of nature, and therefore punish those who break it. That in the State of Nature, every one has the
Executive Power of the Law of Nature. (Locke, Second Treatise, II.13). Equality is maintained.
Having established his state of nature, Locke begins his description of the formation and transition to
society, and appropriately starts with a discussion of property. God, who hath given the World to Men
in common, hath also given them reason to make use of it to the best advantage of Life, and
convenience. (Locke, Second Treatise, V.26). Here, Locke does little more than apply natural law (self
preservation) to what he sees around him (land), but in doing so, makes a groundbreaking shift. He
reveals that, following from natural law, men have a right to use what they have around them to
further their own preservation and lives. In addition, man has an inherent, and obvious, possession of
himself and all that comes with it, including, and most importantly, labor. The Labour of his Body, and
the Work of his Hands, we may say, are properly his. (Locke, Second Treatise,

AUSTRALIAN LAWS Intellectual Property
What is intellectual property?
Intellectual property is any creation, owned by one or multiple owners, that is used commercially. The
designs, inventions or any work that is original can be protected by IP rights. Rights are established
through application and prevent any use without permission. The only way to use this work, when not
owned, would be to buy the rights. While rights are owned there is an opportunity to make
advancements with limited opposition. This is due to the competition not being able to act since the
idea is not theirs.
What are your rights and how can you protect your intellectual property? Explore the various forms of
protection for intellectual property including: patents, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 4th to 9th cycle costs $300 $350. The 15th to 19th cycle costs between $2300 $2350 depending
on the payment method (electronic or other). The protection period is then up after 20 years and would
need to be renewed.
A standard application for a trademark costs $120 per type (tv show etv). A trademarked series costs
$270 per type. Registering fees are $300 which is the same cost of a renewal.
Applying for rights over a design can cost $250 $350 and renewed for $320 $370. Examination fees
cost $420 if done by the design owner and $210 if examined by a third party.
If fees are late the price can increase by $100 per month for an average of up to six months.
What are the constraints or issues surrounding protecting a design?
Different forms of intellectual property protection have certain limitations on the time period they are
in effect. The duration a patented design lasts is for 10 years. Fees are paid to make sure this
protection remains. A registered design prevents third parties from utilizing the product for up to 25
years if it is renewed each five year period. Proof must be given that a person has created a design.
These could be copies or photographic evidence of the design. The aspects of a design that are
forbidden for use by others are the appearance, shape, arrangement and decoration. There are some
criteria the design must meet in order for it to be protected. It must be new, not offensive, not contain
already protected designs and is not

Significance in Storytelling in the Odyssey Essay
Essay One, The Odyssey
Steven Botello
ENGL 2315: Great Works of Literature I
September 16, 2012 Imagine a life without television, no internet, no cell phones, no radio, no movies,
and no video games. This was the life during the Odyssey. The storytelling in the Odyssey gave Greek
society a way of entertainment. Men, woman, and children would listen to these stories with
attentiveness and would then share them throughout their lives. These stories were told in many ways
such as in poems, songs, and tales. If not for storytelling in the Odyssey, the story of Odysseus would
be a lot shorter, as well as insignificant to Greek society. The storytelling in the Odyssey knitted the
life of Odysseus together, and gave many moral lessons and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Even today people tell their life s struggles and past to therapists, psychologist, and even family and
friends to help with grief and sorrow. To me, this is what Odysseus is doing in books 9 12. He was
letting out all his feelings by telling his tale of his voyage back home. Yes, it was a therapy session in
which Odysseus told his legendary stories. Nonetheless, through his story telling All [was] made good,
[his] heart s desire (13.45). Odysseus felt relieved of his mournful feelings after telling his stories and
was eager to get home once and for all. Through Odysseus stories he would engage the listeners by
implying that they were there with him, talking to them and involving them as if they were there.
Odysseus was the great teller of tales , the man of great wisdom. Alcinous urged Odysseus to keep
telling his countless exploits in book 11, and so Odysseus kept on. Alcinous and his men would hold
out till dawn s first light if only you could bear, here in our halls to tell the tale of all the pains you
suffered. (11.425 28). This is how great of entertainment the storytelling of Odysseus was. His skillful
techniques with words grasped the attention and hearts of his listeners. Storytelling has been used to
teach moral lessons to adults and even young children and the storytelling done by Odysseus is no
different. In Odysseus first obstacle, versus the Cyclops, Odysseus shows

  • 2. Anxiety In Tell-Tale-Heart By Edgar Allan Poe In the story,Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe,Poe describes anxiety in many different ways.First, the narrator tells us about his confrontation with the police They were making a mockery of my horror(Poe 94). The narrator is slight crazy. He thinks they are laughing at him but, they really aren t .The narrator could not understand why they were smiling with a faded grin and it really upsetted him.But before we get to that part, let s talk about what led him there. The old man and the narrator lived together. The narrator never had any problems with the man,but he kept going into his room stalking him. It is evident that the old man is scared because The old man sprang up in bed, crying out Who s there (Poe 94). This shows both fear and anxiety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The old man stayed up for a long time knowing someone was in the room, but he couldn t hear or see him. The narrator stood for a long time telling himself When I had waited a long time, very patiently, without hearing him lie down (Poe 91). This shows the setting because they waited a long time without moving a muscle. Finally,The man grabbed the old man a shook him down off his bed striking him for many minutes. He chopped the body up in many parts. He hid the body parts under the floorboards and put the blood in the tub. This shows setting because everything that happened took place in that room. The man was planning a week to finish his mission and it was finally accomplished. And this I did for seven long nights every night just at midnight (Poe 91). Lastly, the police came to the room. They didn t even suspect anything wrong, until the main character went completely Bonkers! The narrator heard the beating of the old man s heart but,it really wasn t there. He felt the cops heard it too but, they weren t saying anything just to mock him. • 4. Locke And Hobbes Thomas Aquinas can be best described as a merge of Aristotelianism eudaimonism and Christian theology. He is known for blending these two subjects, although he did not directly accept every notion that Aristotle believed in. Theology s primary interest in a person is the principle of his actions, according to Hobbes. To judge these actions, he considers 3 topics: the object, the intention, and the circumstances that make up the three sources of the morality of human acts. The object chosen is a good toward which the will guides itself, it is the matter of a human feat. The object chosen morally specifies the act, and is judged if it is within the true good. Unbiased criterions of morality express the balanced order of good and evil, indicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Locke and Thomas Hobbes both submitted differing versions of this state in Two Treatises of Government and Leviathan. Locke adheres to the Natural Law belief which asserts that men intrinsically have ethical sense which curbs them from participating in deplorable acts. These men know what is right and wrong and what is lawful, and can resolve conflicts reasonably. In natural state all people were equal, and everyone had a right to defend his or her life, health, liberty, or possessions. Therefore, Locke believed in a self ruling, civil society, unlike Hobbes. Hobbes s ultimate ambition is to secure as many pleasures as possible and to avoid pain and aversions with no regard for others. He is primarily focused on Self Interest, a core tenant of Hobbism. He believes people have no conception of good and evil, instead it is up to their culture or upbringing to decide this. Justice or Property do not exist, only egoism, which he believes is logical. Hobbes believes that the state of nature is therefore not corrupt, or obscene, but plainly amoral. There are no morals, according to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, as late as 1959, a federal judge still determined that a Mann Act conviction was apt simply for having the intent to violate the law, as long as the man had crossed state line. He stated, Proof that he accomplished his illicit purpose is not necessary to conviction. However, the terms of the law have been amended multiple times since its passage. The Mann Act still exists, but it had become broadly viewed as antiquated by the 1970s. For example, Jackie Gleason s character, Sheriff Buford T. That is that Ferdinand Porsche was at a small extent to blame for the fall of this regime. The evidence is there and should not be neglected. The argument put forth is one that the calibre of Mr Ferdinand Porsche s weapons were far inferior to that of the allies and were not advanced enough. Due to this fault the German regime was deteriorating as they could not fend of their competitors. However these viewpoints are weak and are simply not logical. A man of calibre such as Mr Ferdinand Porsche would not have aided the USSR with weaponry, simply due to his personal relationship to Adolf Hitler and his strong connection to Nazism. Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene therapy is described as the transplantation of normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. 1 During the 1960 s and early 70 s the actual concept of what is now known to be gene therapy arose. Many new practices including the development of genetically marked cell lines and the delineation of cells transformation by the papaovaviruses polyoma were in the works. Cloned genes became a product of this new DNA technique and were used to prove that foreign genes could actually correct genetic disorders.2 This new technology in the medical field has a wide range of uses that is constantly growing larger as scientists continue to study and experiment with it. As of right now, the uses of gene therapy in the medical field consist of replacing missing or defective genes, delivering genes that speed the destruction of cancer cells, supplying genes that cause cancer cells to revert to their normality, delivering bacterial or viral genes as a form of vaccination, providing genes that promote or impede the growth of new tissue and delivering genes that stimulate the healing of damaged tissue.3 With this information, a wide variety of genes are now being used for testing within gene therapy. In the mid 1980 s the first use of gene therapy was practiced and then seen in a four year old girl when she became the first gene therapy patient on September 14, 1990 at the NH Clinical Center. We are in 21st century but the condition of untouchables in Indian society is still a matter of concern. Form ancient time they are being treated worse than animals at the hand of upper caste. Although the government has banned the caste discrimination since 1950 but the plight of untouchables is still a matter of concern. • 15. Emily Dickinson s Poetry And Poetry Emily Dickinson s poems They shut me up in Prose and I Dwell in Possibility on the surface may seem similar, both having the same structure, three four lined stanzas, and punctuation. However, they convey different messages. Typically Dickinson writes dark, meditative and defiant toned poems about death, gender and poetry itself, often challenging social beliefs and traditions. Each poem sticks to these pre modernist views and styles, but place the emphasis on different aspects of her common themes. Although the poems are similar in form and their uses of metaphors, the focus of these poems are different, I dwell in Possibility focuses on the limitless possibilities of poetry and the power associated with it, while They shut me up in Prose discusses the role of a female poet being free of social restraints in a mans world through poetry, together these individual themes convey Dickinson s emphatic view of poetry s ability to free women from social prejudices. In I dwell in Possibility Emily Dickenson compares poetry to prose in the first few lines. Prose is written in the normal syntax of everyday conversation. It has no metrical structure, as well; it is tedious and lacks expression. After the first two lines however, prose is not mentioned any further. This could possibly be because there is not much left to desired in prose or Dickinson is refraining from giving prose any further recognition. • 16. Theme Of Order In The Tale Of Sinuhe In the Tale of Sinuhe , the path of Sinuhe s flight or more aptly put, his journey of self, is one that is indubitably complex it resonates with the concept of uprooting oneself from a semblance of normality ( order ) into a state of unfamiliarity ( chaos ). This paradigm shift, due to an irrational response to fear on Sinhue s part, leads to an existential crisis whereby the course of his trajectory and social identity is questioned extensively. Subsequently, throughout the tale the themes of rational and irrational thought, self vs. other and order vs. chaos are explored and as a result contribute to Sinuhe s journey of self and restoration of his true identity as an Egyptian. In the beginning of the tale, the virtues of Sinuhe s character and loyalty are called into question. As a royal courtier belonging to the virtues of Egypt, fleeing his home was in effect, an unwitting renunciation of all his culture s values. (Parkinson, 1997:22) Thus, Sinuhe s flight, an ... This flight or journey of self enabled Sinuhe to gain an acute awareness and understanding of other cultures as well as the differences between self vs. other . • 17. The Invisible Mother And Lennie Analysis The Invisible Mother and Lennie When a person thinks of a true motherly bond they most likely think of warmth, happiness, someone safe, and reliable. In of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Lennie has to live a life without his mother and because of that it affects the rest of his life . Not having access to the sacred feeling of a mother s love can alter anyone s life. That is why Lennie realizes he needs something to fill that hole in his heart with something that at least resembles a mother s love. If that bond is taken away then a person is left bare to the elements of the cold harsh world. There is something about soft creatures that gives Lennie a sense of serenity and inner peace. The inner peace he gets is the reason why Lennie from Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, loves mice, puppies, rabbits, and anything soft because it represents a true motherly love he never had. Mice in the novel has a deeper symbolic meaning than just it being a petite pet. What Lennie loves about mice is their reliability and stability. These soft natured mice are so easy to find for Lennie. Mice also have a motherly quality that Lennie never had. A true mother is known for always being there no matter what. In the beginning of the book Lennie and George are walking towards their new job, Lennie is holding a mouse but George catches him, George says You gonna give me that mouse or do i have to sock you? ... Lennie reluctantly reached in his pocket. I don t know why I can t keep it. It ain t nobody s mouse. I didn t steal it. I found it lyin right beside the road (9). As long as Lennie is looking for mice then the mice are alway there for Lennie. The only thing stopping him most of the time is George. That is why Lennie needs to sneak around to get what he loves. Even though he loves the mice he is a danger to them. In a way when Lennie is with the mice he feels like he has mother again but when a mouse bites him he goes back to reality and kills it. When he kills the mice he feels remorse and then makes the desperate search to find something to replace it. It s important because Lennie never had an accepting person s shoulder to cry on. • 18. Gender Roles In The Daughters Of England The text The Daughters of England , is a book written to provide guidance for young women, pertaining to their character and behaviour; the book creates the framework for the role of women in the household. It instructs that women must offer a virtuous influence on men as wives, mothers, and daughters as part of their role within society. Estimated to have been written in 1842, in London, Daughters of England was penned by Sarah Stickney Ellis; a popular author of Victorian conduct literature. Ellis popularity implies that the source was widely circulated at the time, thus represents an important view of contemporary society. This document reveals to us the ideals expected of middle class women of the time, and the principles that were envisioned for them, relating in particular to the separate spheres ideology. This ideology outlines and endorses separate spheres for women and men, the domestic and public spheres. This idea derived from the natural features of each gender. As women were considered to be physically weaker than men, they were more suitable to belong to the private sphere. As Ellis writes, women s strength is in her influence , demonstrating the view that, though physically fragile, women were morally superior to men. Raised in a single parent household, Ellis developed a strong sense of morals regarding home life. Having helped raise her siblings, we can infer that this influenced her belief in the importance of women in a matriarchal role. Ellis writes of the necessity to be educated properly, stating that school education forms but a very small part of that which they will be expected to possess . This statement can be reinforced from the Victorian notion that a woman of the upper or middle class, though did receive an education, were expected to become accomplished as opposed to academically knowledgeable. , thus Ellis s writings can be regarded as typical of the time. The source tells young women that they must be content to be inferior to men , a statement that corroborates with the contemporary laws of England. Society was deeply patriarchal, with men legally authorised to use physical violence to chastise his wife as she belonged to him. Women who wanted to separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Traditional Teaching And Traditional Learning Approach In... In a flipped learning approach, lecture and homework are switched. Students watch lectures at home prior to class and class time is spent expanding on content through collaborative learning and content exercises. This model moves the learning environment from teacher centered to student centered, allowing students to become responsible for their learning environment. The teacher takes a step back and has the students take over the reins in the classroom. Instead of showing the students what to do, the teacher would guide and mentor them in order for them to be able to draw their own conclusions and produce their own outcomes. For a flipped learning approach to work, everyone must be on board. There are several benefits to flipped learning versus the traditional teaching model. A traditional classroom is teacher centered, doesn t foster deep learning and is filled with passive learners. A flipped classroom, is learner centered, promotes deeper learning and filled with active learners. Not all flipped classrooms are the same. There are different types of models that support specific classroom and student needs. In a standard flipped classroom, students are assigned video lectures to watch at home, along with readings. • 24. Examples Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451 In Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451, multiple ideas and themes are shown similar between Bradbury s envisioned society and today s society. Technology, increase in efficiency due to technology, and thrill seeking behaviors, are all ideas that are portrayed by Bradbury. Technology is a common similarity that is brought up many times in both Fahrenheit s society and is often brought up in today s society. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that television would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. One might argue that the introduction of the internet and social media has led people to prefer cyber relationships over human relationships. An example of this in today s society could be the people on the subway train. We tend to refrain from communication with others and the best way to do that is by entering our virtual reality in our technology. But, this hasn t happened to an extent portrayed in the book. Montag, the main character, begins to interact with a girl named Clarisse in the book, she asks him questions like, Are you happy (pg.10). In Fahrenheit 451 s society, people haven t totally lost the ability or will to connect to one another in person. Bradbury provides many examples of how technology has blinded people in his envisioned society. Throughout the story, Eliot presents Dinah as a symbol of divine love who persistently shuns all earthly pleasures of her own for the benefit of those in need. Several passages in the text show that Dinah insists she must follow the path God has chosen for her and prevent her own needs and desires from rising to the surface. Dr. Atkins believed that a diet high in sugar forced the pancreas to produce the hormone insulin, causing the body to store calories as fat. He believed that if we consumed fewer carbohydrates, then our bodies would produce less insulin. By doing so, our bodies would use stored fat for energy, resulting in weight loss. (1) The Atkins Diet consists of four phases. The first phase, referred to as the Induction Phase, lasts for a period of two weeks. • 44. The Development of an Effective Pricing Strategy for a... Part A: You have been asked to develop an effective pricing strategy for a brand launch. Describe the sequence of steps, along with key questions to ask the client company. The first consideration is to define the product: is it a luxury product, which is promoted partially upon its image of exclusivity, or is the item a product that is promoted primarily on value? The price of the item will eventually have to enable the company to be in the black, so even if the product is priced low to start, there must be some advance planning of what is a feasible final, target price for the item. For example, if the input goods of the product are relatively high, compared with competitors (such as selling organic beef burgers, versus those sold with cheaper meat), assuming cost leadership as a pricing strategy throughout the product s lifecycle would not be advised. However, initial penetration pricing can be used to encourage consumers to try the product: Penetration pricing...skimming pricing by entering the market with a tangible product or service at a low price in order to appeal to the mass market immediately (7.4 Pricing policies, n.d, Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Management). In some instances, such as the development of a new form of technology or a drug, to recoup the initial outlay of R D costs, an opposite strategy is deployed: A skimming price policy is the use of a high initial price, often three to four times the factory cost, with the knowledge that the price ... Wage inequality, or the gender pay gap, is generally discussed as a broad problem affecting all women. However, this broad approach often leaves out marginalized women, such as women of color, poor women, trans women, queer women, and immigrant women, who experience wage inequality at disproportionately higher rates than women who are not marginalized in these ways. The same lack of intersectional focus colors discussions of sex work, which typically promote a victim/empowered woman dichotomy that fails to account for the nuanced factors in place affecting women of color, trans women, and immigrant women. The use of the phrase domestic labor refers to work done within the home, particularly childcare, elderly care, and the upkeep of the household. The term women s work or women s labor encompasses domestic labor, but not all women s labor is necessarily domestic. In her chapter Industrialization, Wage Labor, and the Economic Gender Gap , Estelle Freedman describes historically feminized fields of work that include other types of labor, such as industrial work in textile mills, retail, clerical, and teaching jobs. When referring to sex work, Laura Agustin uses the term in Migrants in the Mistress s House to encompass everything from prostitution, sexual services in bars, clubs, and flats, erotic phone sex, peep shows, massage parlors, and lap dancing (110). However, she often does not differentiate between sex work and domestic work because migrants often move between these sectors or work in two at once, and because a separation into two groups reproduces a scheme of good versus bad girls (97). On the Virtues of Private Property in Locke and Rousseau John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau, following their predecessor Thomas Hobbes, both attempt to explain the development and dissolution of society and government. They begin, as Hobbes did, by defining the state of nature a time before man found rational thought. In the Second Treatise[1] and the Discourse on Inequality[2], Locke and Rousseau, respectively, put forward very interesting and different accounts of the state of nature and the evolution of man, but the most astonishing difference between the two is their conceptions of property. That in the State of Nature, every one has the Executive Power of the Law of Nature. (Locke, Second Treatise, II.13). Equality is maintained. Having established his state of nature, Locke begins his description of the formation and transition to society, and appropriately starts with a discussion of property. God, who hath given the World to Men in common, hath also given them reason to make use of it to the best advantage of Life, and convenience. (Locke, Second Treatise, V.26). Here, Locke does little more than apply natural law (self preservation) to what he sees around him (land), but in doing so, makes a groundbreaking shift. He reveals that, following from natural law, men have a right to use what they have around them to further their own preservation and lives.
