Morgan Stanley chooses this kind of organizational structure to divide its business for its own special
work in order to serve its customs well. The company emphasizes on program teams that can operate
cross departments to allow employees performing the program under the best conditions. And this
makes the company can respond quickly to customers needs.
All in all, the cross functional structure allows employees to create the set of functions they need in
order to scan and monitor the competitive environment and obtain information about the way it is
changing. With the right set of functions in place, Morgan Stanley s managers are then in a good
position to develop a strategy that allows the organization to respond to its changing situation quickly.
Employees in the first line work level would communicate more with the customers. Under the cross
functional structure, the group can decide every aspect of a business. For example, the group formed
to deal with real estate investment can make decision to set the price by themselves instead of the
Morgan Stanley Marketing department. It will let the service firm keep itself closer to the market and
customers.
Ⅲ.Individual Behaviors of Morgan Stanley
Human behavior is complex and every individual is different from another, the situation of Morgan

Concept of Identity
The concept of identity and it s shifting influences has many forms such as; cultural, social,
community, racial, sex and so on. These leave many in society with a label or stereotype to their name
if they are out of place, unique, one of a kind or just being themselves and society doesn t condone
this. Such examples would be the novel RAW by Scott Monk and School Ties by Robert Mandel and
the short story A bullying Story ** by Peter Leavitt all show influences in society where people
become someone who they are not.
In the novel RAW the main character Brett is portrayed as the low life scum in society, the boy who
came from a some what bad child hood. Who doesn t have rules for society and is ill equipped to

Caitlyn whom he falls in love with and tries to change himself for the better of her Brett double

he has changed and matured into a sensible young adult.
The film school ties is about a young jewish boy David Green who is bought for a Catholic school to

costume he is wearing a bomber jacket and the majority suits bland colour suits.
The film represents on how an outsider may hide or not tell in a conversation that he is different
because of his religion. Many of the boys who david becomes very good friends with reject him and
push him away when they find out his Jewish.
A boy named Dillion tells a racist joke about Jewish people that the stereotype that they are all very

Arsenic And Old Lace By Joseph Kesselring
Arsenic and Old Lace Arsenic and Old Lace, written by Joseph Kesselring, is a play that takes place in
Brooklyn New York. The opening scene takes place in September of 1942, in the Brewster living
room. It is the home of Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha Brewster they both may seem perfectly sane, but
we find out they are both crazy murderers. Together, they have 12 dead bodies in their home. The
women think they are doing their victims favors, because all of their victims were lonely and death
would be better than that. In the Brewster house, with the two aunts, lives Teddy, Teddy believes he is
the president of the United States (Teddy Roosevelt) and provides comedic relief during the show
through his presidential behavior . Also living in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Falling action includes the cops walking inside in the middle of Jonathan trying to murder Mortimer.
The production comes to a halt when more cops and Mr. Witherspoon come in much to Jonathans
dismay. The Denouement is when all the papers are signed and Aunt Martha, Aunt Abby and Teddy all
go to Happy Dale. The theme of Arsenic and Old Lace is generosity is in the eye of the beholder. All
of the Brewsters think they are doing people a favor or helping throughout the play when in reality
their actions are not entirely generous. For example the Aunts don t believe they are doing a bad thing
by killing these people, instead they think they are helping old men find peace. Aunt Abby expresses
this feeling when talking to Martha saying, He sat dead in that chair looking so peaceful remember,
Martha we made up our minds right then and there that if we could help other lonely old men to the
same place we would (26). Though Abby had her reasons for doing such a kind thing and she truly
believed she was helping, she still killed him. Mortimer also goes out of his way to be kind to Elaine.
After Mortimer learns about his family s history he tells Elaine he will not marry her because he doesn
t want to burden her with the inevitable fact that he will be crazy too. He tells Elaine, I love you very
much , Elaine. In fact I love you so much I can t marry you (55). Mortimer is trying to help

Unknown 20
Abstract
The bases of this experiment was to discover the identify of the unknown from three possible
specimens: Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, and Enterobacter aerogenes. Utilizaing the T
streak technique, the bacteria was isolated into pure colonies for further study. The Gram Stain method
was used to identity the morhphology of the bacteria such as the shape and whether the bacteria was
Gram positive or Gram negative. Biochemical test were also used to help identify the unknown
bacteria. The biochemical test used was the Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Sulfur Indole Motility test, Methyl
Red test, Voges Proskauer test, Citrate test, Urease test, and the Gelatin test. After observing the
morphology of the bacteria using the Gram Stain method and utilizing all the possible biochemical
test, the bacteria was identified to be Enterobacter aerogenes.
Introduction
Gram negative and gram positive bacteria differ from each other in many ways especially in the
composition and size of their cell walls. Unlike Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria have a
thin peptidoglycan layer surround by an outer membrane. This outer membrane contains many
proteins one of them being lipopolysaccharides (LPS), which contributes to the bacteria s negative
charge. One part of this protein is a lipid, called Lipid A, which is considered an endotoxin because
this lipid triggers an immune response stimulating fever

The Differences Of The Los Angeles Riots
African Americans in Los Angeles and throughout the United States have experienced racial
oppression for centuries. (Background about racial oppression by the LAPD). Rodney King was an
African American motorist who inspired positive police reforms after he had a brutal conflict and was
beaten by four members of the LAPD. Rodney King s encounter resulted in a social and legal
compromise because the incident made people aware of police brutality, gave African Americans a
voice against police abuse, and resulted in reforms to the way that the LAPD responds to communities
of color.
The Los Angeles Riots were the second riots to happen after the Watts Riots. The L.A Riots took place
on April 9, 1992. The riots broke out in less than a day and lasted five days and killed more than 50
people and left more than 2,000 injured. On April 30, 1992, writers Richard A. Serrano and Tracy
Wilkinson wrote an article in the Los Angeles Times newspaper saying hours after the verdicts were
announced, angry demonstrators torched buildings, looted stores and assaulted passersby as civic
leaders pleaded for calm. The riots started after the verdict was given, people were filled with anger
after they police officers were acquitted of all charges against them. Tensions also arose with Korean
store owners.
The riots helped bring a change to the community for the African Americans because before the riots
they didn t have a voice, any protest or march they did didn t receive attention. When the

The Importance Of Charter Schools
After reading chapter eight of Spring, I believe that charter schools play a large role in our public
education system, as well as the other multiple education systems talked about in the reading such as
home schooling, or private schools. Charter schools are in fact public schools, but they might not
serve the same specific set of educational objectives that a public school would have. Another aspect
of charter schools is that they have to take any state required tests. A trend also found in charter
schools is to serve primarily minority schools and low income students. The percentage of student s
eligible for free or reduced price lunch program greatly increased from 2001 to 2012. Charter schools
play a large role in the public education

The Impact of the Silk Road
The Silk Road at first caused many pastoral groups to form. Eventually, rich families did settleand
build large establishments.
The Silk Road allowed the spread of religions ( see chart above
) such as Nestorian Christianity,Manichaeism, Zoroastrianism, and Buddhism.
The stirrup spread though out the Silk Road. It allowed riders to be much more stable and thuscaused
military innovation. i.e. the superiority of the Tang calvary in China.
The Indian Ocean Maritime System
The Indian Ocean Maritime System was a society of seafarers established across the IndianOcean and
South China Sea.

and (2) the thirteenth through seventeenth centuries c.e.
2. The origins of the Silk Road trade may be located in the occasional trading of Central Asian
nomads. Regular, large scale trade was fostered by the Chinese demand for western products
(particularly horses) and by the Parthian state in northeastern Iran and its control of the markets in
Mesopotamia.
3. In addition to horses, China imported alfalfa, grapes, and a variety of other new crops as well as
medicinal products, metals, and precious stones. China exported peaches and apricots, spices, and
manufactured goods including silk, pottery, and paper.

B. The Impact of the Silk Road
1. Turkic nomads, who became the dominant pastoralist group in Central Asia, benefited from the
trade. Their elites constructed houses, lived settled lives, and became interested in foreign religions
including Christianity, Manicheanism, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, and (eventually) Islam.
2. Central Asian military technologies, particularly the stirrup, were exported both east and west, with
significant consequences for the conduct of war.

Eric Serratella Sassy Pottery
Pottery is an ancient form of art created by people as early as 29,000 BC. The Gravettian Venus
figurines (appendix A) are the earliest discovered ceramic works, dating from 29,000 BC to 25,000
BC (Carr, 2015). Since then ceramics have significantly evolved, and the pots created today can be
described as interesting and unique masterpieces. An example of one of these masterpieces is Sassy
Birch (appendix B), which is a teapot created by Eric Serratella (appendix C). Eric Serritella received
primary applied art training from two artist residencies studying with Ah Leon and clay masters in
Taiwan, and after 16 years of other work, Serritella transitioned into clay. He specialises in ceramic

The spout has been placed high on the teapot, and creates the illusion of an implied line to the top of
the handle. The spout also appears to form the resemblance to a hand at the end, as there are multiple
small branches growing from it. It is also bent at an angle to give the impression of an elbow. The
handle forms the other arm. It had also been cleverly created to look like a branch growing from the
body of the pot with organic curves and angles. The lid of the teapot is slightly raised by a thick neck
of the teapot, and has a branch growing from it to form a convenient handle. The base is muck thicker
than the body to give it a very sturdy and well built appearance. It also seems to be slightly hollowed
out, forming a small cave, which is very convenient as you could, for example, place a heater under it
to keep your tea

Essay about Bix Beiderbecke
BIX BEIDERBECKE The virtuoso Leon Bix Beiderbecke was born in 1903 and died young in 1931.
Though his life was short, Bix s legacy was long live. He was raised in Davenport, Iowa, by his
mother Agatha and father Bismark. He was the youngest of the German middle class family, his father
owned a lumber amp; coal company in east davenport while his mother was a pianist. As a boy, Bix
Beiderbecke had a few piano lessons, but he was self taught on cornet and developed an unorthodox
technique by playing. He was blessed with the gift of a musical ear which helped him greatly
throughout his career because he was not able to read music very well. Growing up Bix found his

Armstrong played was usually hot and played loudly with high notes, whereas Bix played in a more
subdued manner with low and melodic notes. Biederbecke was known for putting solos and creating a
fluid sound. He had a unsual way of stringing together note choices. Bix was way ahead of his time
and influence many people for the next couple of decades. He played and gave the audiences another
option to listen to. Beiderbecke developed a beautiful and original style. His cornet playing, noted for
its brilliant phrasing and its clarity of tone. Beiderbecke also played and composed at the piano
throughout his working life, his famous pieces include In a Mist, Flashes, Candlelights, and In the
Dark. Their use of pandiatonicism, whole tone scales, and parallel 7th and 9th chords reflect his
interest in impressionist harmonic language. Bix Beiderbecke played cornet on four number one hit
records in 1928 recorded with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra: Together , number one for two weeks,
Ramona , number one for three weeks, My Angel , number one for six weeks, and Ol Man River , with
Bing Crosby on vocals, was number one for one week. By contrast, Louis Armstrong did not have any
number one records in the 1920s. Ol Man River would be the first of 41 number one hits for Bing
Crosby during his career.
Beiderbecke s originality made him one of the first white jazz musicians to be admired by black
performers. Louis Armstrong

God Bless The Usa Analysis
The artifact that expresses my view of America is the song, God Bless the USA written and sung by
Lee Greenwood. Although written in the 1980s, this song rose to popularity after the 9/11 attack on
the World Trade Center. God Bless the USA is a motivating song that I believe reassured the American
people and gave them hope after such a traumatic incident. The musical qualities of God Bless the
USA help to construct Greenwood s vision of America. The song begins with clear piano and guitar
notes, which creates a slow and reflective feel. However, as the song continues, the music builds up
until it is proud symphony of violins. This transition shows the moral strength of the American people.
As the music gets closer to the chorus, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In God Bless the USA, Greenwood mentions that he won t forget the men who died [in the army], and
who gave [freedom] to me. In Greenwood s perspective, fighting for the USA is idealistic and in line
with the American values. However, in Born in the USA, Springsteen notes that the military is sent off
in a foreign land to go kill the yellow man. In this statement, Springsteen is highly unfavorable to
having American soldiers go and kill in the name of what is right. He believes that Americans are
violent. While God Bless the USA is uses a rhythmic drum beat to display American pride, Born in the
USA uses those same music qualities as irony. Springsteen s mesh of anthemic music and
disheartening lyrics conveys his message about the warped sense of pride that Americans

Drug Arrests on College Campuses
Drug arrests on college campuses have become an escalating issue around the United States for
several years. Rehabs.com is said to be a website that aids people overcome their addictions. I will get
into more detail about this later in the paper. This same website conducted a study about colleges that
included the most on campus arrests, including those who occur in the residence halls. This was
known as the rehabs.com report. This report was led by the Drugs on Campus Head Jon Millward.
This report concludes that College at Oneonta in New York State tops the list in drug arrests on
college campuses around the nation. Other SUNY colleges are mentioned in this report as well. SUNY
schools include SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Albany and a few others as
well. In this paper I will primarily discuss in depth three main issues associated with the report and
why these make the report very controversial. One point that I will be arguing in this paper will be that
the report lacks an author and a publisher. Validity is not present in a report where the author and the
publisher is missing. It makes us think that the information is unreliable, since it is unclear as to where
it came from. The second point that I will be addressing is that I will discuss the importance of social
media. The media has also many uses as well, such as to keep close contact with friends and to
distribute information online quickly. The rehabs.com report was widely covered by the media,

Traditional Methods of Performance Appraisal
Top of Form
Bottom of Form
Top of Form
Performance appraisal is a method of evaluating the behaviour of employees in the work spot,
normally both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of job performance. Performance here refers to
the degree of accomplishment of the tasks that make up an individual s job. It indicates how well an
individual is fulfilling the job demands. The purpose of performance appraisal is to update the worker
on his progress, gauge his behavior and performance, praise good work, and note opportunities for
improvement. A poorly conducted appraisal could cause the worker to lose morale, but a constructive
performance appraisal can encourage him to go above and beyond the call of duty. People differ in ...

It includes both negative and positive points. The drawback of this method is that the supervisor has to
note down the critical incidents and the employee behaviour as and when they occur.
5. FIELD REVIEW In this method, a senior member of the HR department or a training officer
discusses and interviews the supervisors to evaluate and rate their respective subordinates. A major
drawback of this method is that it is a very time consuming method. But this method helps to reduce
the superiors personal bias.
6. CHECKLIST METHOD
The rater is given a checklist of the descriptions of the behaviour of the employees on job. The
checklist contains a list of statements on the basis of which the rater describes the on the job
performance of the employees.
7. GRAPHIC RATING SCALE In this method, an employee s quality and quantity of work is
assessed in a graphic scale indicating different degrees of a particular trait. The factors taken into
consideration include both the personal characteristics and characteristics related to the on the job
performance of the employees. For example a trait like Job Knowledge may be judged on the range of
average, above average, outstanding or unsatisfactory.
8. FORCED DISTRIBUTION To eliminate the element of bias from the rater s ratings, the evaluator
is asked to distribute the employees in some

My scope of location covers a narrow sliver of Den Haag and small pockets of countryside
communities. Additionally, this research was conducted in a short period of only three and a half
months. Limiting my research to barely scratch the surface and curbing me from delving deeper in
understanding the urban community of Den Haag. Additionally, the time with my participants was

The devastation caused was and is not an isolated occurrence. The impact of climate change on the
ecosystem and communities is becoming more frequent and leaving human and environmental
casualties behind. It is during Hurricane Sandy where I observed and experienced firsthand the selfless
efforts of, what moments earlier were strangers, to individuals coming together as a community for a
common purpose in helping one another. While the nation state searched for loop holes and invented
reasons justifying their limited / lack of involvement. It s this reason why I argue the responsibility of
the future and sustainability of the city is in the hands of its community (including its local
government). It is inhumane to treat this planet with such disregard, we must see that we are as much
connected to her as she is to us and it is our responsibility and obligation to protect where we learn
and love, work and sleep, pray and play, grow and eat, and finally die (Barber 2013, 13). Granted, due
to financial challenges, there are limitations to Den Haag 2040 climate neutral initiative, however
based on my research, this is not stopping nor discouraging the community and campaigns like Den

Gangster Movies
Gangster movies have been successful for many years, these movies depict the real life experiences of
gang members. Furthermore, these movies also portray the views that the gang members have on
females. Gwendolyn D. Pough, the author of What It Do, Shorty, stated perfectly the minimal number
of roles available for them in hood related movies. Ms. Pough wrote However, what does come across
clearly as one reads the Steffans s memoir and Bryan s tell all are the ways in which some women
have chosen to buy into the sexism and misogyny that limits the roles that women can play in hip hop
culture (Pough. pg. 83). Based on the quote, woman in hood related movies are often portrayed as sex
object, who are only useful to the man by supporting his needs, the only females who are not viewed
so negatively are the mothers of the gang members. Although, there are female characters pushing
back this stigma of women in the hood, who are tacking roles of female empowerment. Sadly, these
roles are not abundant in the film industry.
Movies that portray the hood life are very accurate, these films depict the life of both man and woman
in the streets of South L.A. or Chicago and even New York. In these films, the male is shown as an
aggressive dope dealer, who only cares about money and sex, on the other hand, the female characters
are shown as depends of their male partners, who must obey what the man says. Also, these women
are referred as hoes and bitches and are treated with no respect.

Ford s Assembly Line The acronym PERSIA denotes the categories Political, Economic, Religion,
Social, Intellectual and Aesthetic into an easy way of remembering one of many systematic models.
These six categories are used to organize and explain technology s effect and changes over a long

importance that topic, idea and technology has impacted a person, culture, country, and even history.
Thus, providing a new outlook and perspective on history and the factors that contributed to the

Specifically, how technology effects changes in social relationships and people s lives. Technology
can make life easier and at the same time can make life more difficult. When an invention is released,
the inventors intent and purpose to increase production and reduce time or increase quality of life, may
produce the opposite result. For example, DDT, which was used as a pesticide, was sprayed during the

environment and people later down the road. As a result, the technology wasn t completely successful.
Following social, intellectual describes education, technological advancement, and subjects learned in

defines what is important to know and what is useless. Lastly, the PERSIA model ends with aesthetic.

Reasons For Choosing Dw Sports
My reason for choosing DW Sports is due to that fact that it is an award winning Health club and
Retail business across the whole of the UK Northern Ireland. DW Sports also offers a variety of high
class products and they are also in conjunction with top brands like Adidas, Nike, Asics, New Balance,
Under Armour, Canterbury and many more. DW Sports is serious about becoming the UK s number 1
go to retailer for online sporting goods.
My reason for selecting JD Sports is due to the fact that JD Sport has long been established as the
leading UK specialised multiple retailer of fashionable branded and own brand sports and casual wear.
The group now has over 400 stores and is continuing to grow. Therefore I feel like both websites
would be good to evaluate and in return get ideas of ways to make my website a success when
creating it.
I will start off by evaluating my first company website which is DW Sports. Firstly I am going to talk
about the colour scheme DW Sports have used. The overall colour scheme of the website is red, white
and black and these are the colours which are present within the company logo. I personally feel like
this was intentional to make their website and their products easily identifiable as their own. I feel like
the black background was a good idea as the red compliments it and the writing is white and quite
large therefore it stands out and it is clear to read.
The overall layout of the whole website I feel is simple while professional looking.

Ida B Wells Research Paper
Ida B. Wells is a name that should always be synonymous with African American modern history.
Being born during the Civil War in the South and living her life through Reconstruction, history would
play a huge role with her life. So when given the choice of being a background character or to take
center stage, Wells found her spot light and shone like the morning sun. The South would do its best to
stifle her voice both as child, though she would not know it, and as an adult. Yet Wells would show the

Chivalry Compared To Today
Chivalry was designated for knights as a moral code or law for them to abide by, but sadly has been
slowly being brushed under the rug by their following generations. Growing up I was taught certain
aspects of a new hybrid of the Code of Chivalry such as courtesy, honor, humbleness, respect, and
proper manners. Chivalry since medieval times has slowly dissipated into almost nothing compared to
today. Now I am not suggesting that these traits have been lost indefinitely but they have certainly
minimized. Parents are not teaching their children to be polite or use proper manners. Those traits are
something I would like to thank my father for instilling in myself. I hold courtesy, honor, humbleness,
respect, and proper manners highly because many people respect that. So how exactly did these values
change me? These imperative values changed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personality Traits Of The Big Five
As we all know, humans come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities. A big part of being an adult is
entering the work field and finding a career. That s where the Big five personality traits come in. The
five traits that most employers base their tests off of are; neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness,
conscientiousness, and openness to experience. So the next time you take a pretest for employment
would these would be good to keep in mind. Especially when determining if you re a good fit for that
position. As stated earlier, the big five personality traits are neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness,
conscientiousness, and openness to experience (sevencounties.org). There are other personalities that
we as people have. It s a way to express ourselves and communicate with others. But the big five was
picked to help focus in on a successful work environment. Neuroticism is how easily the person will
experience unpleasant emotions, such as depression, anger, and anxiety (sevencounties.org). This will
measure how the person will be able to handle uncomfortable situations involved with these emotions.
In the workplace we don t only have to deal with consumers, we also have to deal with our fellow
coworkers. This will help prepare someone for the workplace. The next personality is extroversion.
Extroversion describes how much energy one would have and if they would be able to interact with
others (sevencountries.org). Communication is a very import life

Nacle Physiology
In the human body, there are two kidneys located behind the peritoneum, on either side of the spine at
the lowest level of the ribcage [1]. Each kidney is made up of millions of nephrons, which drain into a
series of collecting ducts in the ureter and bladder. Each nephron consists of a glomerulus, which is
made up of a system of tiny blood vessels used to filter blood plasma. Each glomerulus is attached to
an unbranched tubule [1]. In the tubule, chemicals and water are either added or removed according to
the body s needs. The products that are not needed are removed via urine. This urine production is

Baptism and the Holy Spirit
Baptism and the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts
Water Baptism vs Baptized with the Spirit and Power
The book of Acts begins with Jesus parting words to His apostles before His ascension to the right
hand of God the Father. In His opening statement Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, and He does this by
distinguishing the coming of the Spirit from the baptism of John. For John truly baptized with water,
but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. (Acts 1:5) John had testified
the same of his baptism, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after
me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit
and fire. (Matthew 3:11, also in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the following two consideration indicate that the unique baptism of the Holy Spirit which
accompanied the apostle s ministry is not normative for the Lord s church.
● First, not everyone who was baptized (with water) later received the baptism of the Spirit. In fact, of
the (at least) nine occurrences of water baptism in the book of Acts, two are followed by the baptism
of the Holy Spirit, and one is preceded by the Holy Spirit precedes baptism by water (Acts 10).
Pentecost is a unique instance where three thousand are baptized with water after the Apostles were
baptized by the Holy Spirit. So we see that already in the book of Acts that the baptism of the Holy
Spirit is not the normal and regular form of baptism. On the other hand, every convert to the Holy
Church in Acts is baptized with water. This is why the church has taught that the baptism of water in
the name of the Holy Trinity is a sacrament which works faith and gives the forgiveness of all sin,
while the unique baptism of the Holy Spirit is not a sacrament, but a sign of the unique office of Jesus
(ascended to the right hand of God) and of the apostles (sent by Jesus to teach His Word).
● Second, as just mentioned, the signs that accompanied Jesus ministry also accompany the apostolic
preaching, showing that their word was pure. (See Acts 2:22; Hebrews 2:4)
St Peter preached in his first sermon, Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man

Socrates Examined Life
1. According to Socrates, the Examined Life is a life engaged in conversation with oneself, others, and
questioning for the good. Socrates was put on trial for what Athens called corrupting young people
because he was so influential in his teaching about the examined life. He was remarkably passionate
about philosophy believing that the unexamined life is not worth living and that he would rather die
than give up his beliefs. However, the examined life is not sufficient for living a morally worthwhile
life.
2. To live a morally worthwhile life you need to know what is right and what is wrong. A commonly
accepted meaning or synonym of right is what is morally correct. A generally acknowledged meaning
or synonym of wrong is unjust or immoral.
3. Knowledge of right and wrong cannot be acquired solely through the examined life; one will gain
these values through the social framework and a philosophical aptitude as well. One cannot simply

One may object that not everyone has the ability to be philosophical. Every person s brain works a
little differently. Not everyone thinks about every detail as deep as those with a philosophical thinking.
Those without the philosophical thinking tend to go along more with anything rather than questioning
or may stay on the superficial layer of conversations. On the other hand, it is acceptable to not meet
one of the contributing factors to living a morally worthwhile life because it is not dependent on a
single factor like solely the examined life. One may say that everyone has to be philosophical to live a
morally worthwhile life. However, not specifically everyone because some may luck out and have a
philosophical person who is actually telling them what is right and what is wrong. Then, one might
question about the other people who do not luck out. Not everyone can be perfect, get what they want,

Diffusion Of Altruism Essay
This paper looks at the theories relevant to the diffusion of prosocial behavior as it spreads through
social media. Altruism is delineated from other types of prosocial behavior because it is directly
related to empathy. The two theories of motivation for prosocial behavior are the Empathy Altruism
Hypothesis and Social Exchange Theory. These two motivational states outline the paradox of
altruism, which infers that selfless behavior can provide benefits to those engaging in it. When looking
at the chasm in the Diffusion of Innovation, presented by Everett Rogers, these theories can be applied
in order to accelerate the diffusion across the chasm. Messages that elicit empathic responses should
target the innovators and early adopters. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first opinion lies in the Empathy Altruism Hypothesis. This hypothesis, created by Daniel Batson,
studies altruistic behaviors and links their production to empathic concern for others (Batson, 2011).
Batson (2011) would argue that prosocial behavior can be elicited from empathic concern, whereas
others have argued there are only self serving processes at work. The alternate opinion comes from
Social Exchange Theory, which applies economic principles to social relationships (Miller, 2013). As
Shari Miller describes in her article from the Salem Press Encyclopedia, social exchanges happen
because people make choices that create maximum benefits and minimize personal disadvantages
(Miller, 2013). When this theory is applied to prosocial behavior as its primary motivation, the actions
can quickly be reduced to social behavior instead. The reductionist approach of Social Exchange spins
the motivations for any social behavior as purely self serving. While this may be true of some surface
level prosocial behavior, there is still the observation that it can be selflessly motivated. Empathy
generated altruism falls directly opposite of reward seeking prosocial behaviors. These two concepts
create a polarization in motivational states. The altruism paradox, is defined in the Salem Press
Encyclopedia of Health as the difference between prosocial behavior that is self serving and prosocial
behavior that is

The long bone is composed of cartilage which covers both ends of the the bone(the epiphysis) and it

the long bone is the hard compact bone, this allows the hollow part of the log bone some strength. The

In A Modest Proposal, by Jonathan Swift, and the television program The Daily Show, the methods of
satire are used. Both of these works use humor to get their idea across to their audience. However,
their purpose and impacts have different effects. The style in A Modest Proposal attempts to fix the

The Concept Of Emotional Branding
The concept of emotional branding refers to the relationship and connection people have with certain
brands. Built through strategic marketing and communications, brands have been able to develop
campaigns that shape attitudes of its audiences that drive decision making and behaviour. The concept
stems from the realization that many customers do not, in fact, make buying decisions through a
purely rational approach, focusing solely on the financials, and attributes of products, but rather, these
decisions are influences in large part by their emotions. While many purchasing decisions are certainly
influenced by the subconscious emotions of the consumer, emotional branding can also determine the

automotive firm that focuses solely on the attributes of its vehicles and ignoring the potential of

so, forcing the brand to rethink the way it positions itself relative to its competition.

The Use of Biometrics in Forensic Science
1. Biometric Applications
In recent years there have been heightened concerns about security due to the advancements of
networking, communications, and mobility. This has led to the increase in biometrics in different
applications for authentication and identification. The applications can be divided into 3 main groups
Forensics, Government and Commercial (Jain, Flynn Ross, 2008).
1.1 Forensics
The use of biometrics in forensics has been used for a long time. Usage of fingerprints as an identifier
has been used to link suspected criminals to the crime scene by collecting fingerprints then comparing
it. Nowadays as computer technology has become more available. Large Automated Fingerprint
Identification Systems (AFIS) are used to match unknown fingerprints against a database. Today AFIS
is used in every law enforcement agencies worldwide. It is important to note that the AFIS may not
give the exact result of the candidate but a short list of potential suspects. A forensic specialist would
then be required to examine the prints. Biometric data can also be used for victim identification based
off characteristics of the human remains. This can be achieved by physical evidence. This includes
soft biometrics such as height, gender, color of skin etc. Specific characteristics such as scars, tattoos,
moles, can also be useful if matched with the ante mortem. Genetic identification can also be used to
compare DNA with the victims suspected family s DNA. This could be

The Historical and Colonial Context of Brian Friel s Translations
Regarded by many as Brian Friel s theatrical masterpiece, Seamus Deane described Translations as a
sequence of events in history which are transformed by his writing into a parable of events in the
present day (Introduction 22). The play was first produced in Derry in 1980. It was the first production
by Field Day, a cultural arts group founded by Friel and the actor Stephen Rea, and associated with
Deane, Seamus Heaney and Tom Paulin.
As Deane asserts, the play is in many respects an intelligent and enlightening metaphor for the
situation in Northern Ireland. The aims of raising cultural awareness and dispelling socio political

This culminated in the Rebellion of 1798, lead by Wolfe Tone and the Society of United Irishmen, in
which Hugh and Jimmy participated: The road to Sligo. A spring morning. 1798. Going into battle

the passing of the Act of Union in 1800. This piece of legislation, effective from 1 January 1801,
brought Ireland under the direct rule of the British Crown.
1823 saw the rise of Daniel O Connell (the only real person mentioned in the play), a disillusioned
veteran of 1798 who founded the Catholic Association. O Connell campaigned for better civil rights
and social conditions for the Irish people, hence Maire reporting that he said We should all be learning
to speak English (399). O Connell believed that it was necessary to use the English language in order
to allow Ireland to progress in a quickly modernising Western world. In 1829, due to his efforts in
Parliament, the Catholic Emancipation Act came into force overturning the penal laws.
It was at this juncture, when the play takes place, that Britain began to make deeper inroads to Irish
society and culture. An attempt to colonise the mind and the people as opposed to conquering land
through brute force. Translations is Friel s vehicle for representing methods central to the colonial
discourse of Imperialist aspirations. In the foreground of the play

A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books Essay
A Code Hero in Hemingway s Books
Robert Jordan has been defined as a Hemingway code hero. In Hemingway s books, a code hero is
usually male, as Hemingway s books seem to have a similarity to Hemingway himself. These code
heroes may have been previously wounded or gone through some sort of an ordeal, and so they could
have a drinking problem, or a problem sleeping. They seem to be disillusioned, and/or self oriented,
and are not usually loyal to a large cause, but rather a small group of people or a relatively small idea
or thing. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Robert Jordan, the code hero, most likely dies at the end. If it

Indecision could provide a reason for having a sleeping problem, as he does some things other than
sleeping at night, one of the criteria for a code hero.
Disillusionment can be seen as the main contributor to the code hero definition. Jordan s
disillusionment grows throughout the novel, to the point where he doesn t believe in the rebel cause
whatsoever, war itself, or the killing of other human beings in the name of a cause. After Jordan kills
the fascist who wanders near his sleeping bag, he is bothered by a constant feeling of guilt. It seems
that Jordan experiences a change as the novel progresses, but his determination to complete the very
dangerous mission never wavers, even though it becomes very clear that they will probably not
escape. His code hero ethic to do what he needs to do manages to defeat his feelings for Maria, his
growing negative feeling about the cause, and war itself. If Jordan had simply abandoned the mission,
he would have been able to live happily ever after with Maria, but he would have let general Golz
down by not doing what he was sent to do.
At the end of the novel, Jordan ends being injured in the process of trying to escape. He convinces
Maria to leave him and escape with the rest of the band. Agustin even offers to put him out of his
misery, so he doesn t have to face the approaching fascists. Jordan, however, does not want to go out

In the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga s performance of Eurydice, there are key elements that
set this performance aside from others. Likewise, Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher who
carries heavy influence on thought. Therefore, Aristotle has certain ideas as to what elements drama
should try to accomplish. This specific performance of Eurydice ties in all six of these elements of
drama, which includes plot, theme, character, diction, music, and spectacle. As far as plot goes, this
particular play is fairly rapid in scene changes and, at times, it can be difficult to follow. However, the
audience can concisely follow the main plot of this play. The production opens with a couple,
Eurydice and Orpheus, getting engaged on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there was a distinct noise associated with the Lord anytime he was onstage, even before
we knew he was the Lord of the Underworld. The use of sound to make audience connection was a
key factor in the performance. Likewise, there was a particular melody that was mirrored throughout
the performance that was initially sung by Orpheus. This ties back to the characterization of Orpheus
through sound and music. Also, music is an important piece of his life, so much so that he describes
Eurydice s strands of hair as individual instruments. The use of music throughout the play acts to

The American Civil War was the bloodiest war that America had ever fought. From 1861 to 1865 the
Union (northern states) was fighting against the Confederates (southern states that succeeded from the
Union). The war resulted in the death of 620,000 plus Americans and left millions injured. During the
Civil War there were many important battles that took place over the years. Battle of Fort Sumter, The
First Battle of Bull Rum, The Seven Days Battle, The Battle of Antietam, The battle of Vicksburg, and

Lee was the Confederate Army leader in Northern Virginia. General Lee had just come out of a huge
victory for the Confederates over the army of the Potomac in Chancellorsville on the Union side.
General Lee decided to invade the north for a second time. In May 1863, General Lee planned to
divert northern troops from Vicksburg where the Confederates were under siege and he hoped to gain
the recognition from Britain and France. President Lincoln was on the other end. He had lost all
confidence in his army. He thought that after the defeat at Chancellorsville that they were going to
lose the war. President Lincoln then named Major George Gordon Meade to succeed Hooker. Meade

Review of Exhibitions
Q1. Sending back 1,000 paid registration fees is not feasible, and would create negative publicity
about the event in the media. However, it is impossible to allow the convention center to become a fire
hazard due to overcapacity, and were an incident to occur, the publicity would even be more negative,
if someone were injured (such as if there was a fire and the building could not be evacuated in a
timely fashion). Instead, using satellite venues to cater to certain aspects of the expo would be advised.
Using the exterior space outside of the convention hall to house some of the events would balance the
number of individuals on the exterior and interior of the structure. Even if inclement weather were to
occur, tents could be used to stage some of the attractions of interest. All of the different vendors and
events would be reviewed, to see which would work better in tents versus in the hall. For example, a
yoga class would likely have to be staged indoors, because of its size. However, a vendor handing out
pamphlets and talking about holistic nutrition could be confined to a smaller booth. This would
maximize the happiness of both the attendees and the client. The client would be happy that all of the
events were staged, and none of the attendance fees were returned. There would be no unhappy,
disgruntled want to be conference goers who had bad feelings because their money was returned. And
finally, the event itself might be enhanced by being more spread out and using

Feminity and Sexual Desires in The Storm by Kate Chopin

violent storms. The story is about is a confrontation of the theme of femininity and complexities of the

desires. Kate Chopin opens her story with the storm brewing, which keeps Calixta s husband away
from her stormy passions. She makes the storm so natural that one can never foreshadow what the
storm symbolizes. The storm is always depicted as something dangerous, and destructive, but Chopin
depicts the storm in her story as something that is good, and fulfilling. The characters were happy, and
fulfilled after the storm ended instead of it causing destructions. Chopin introduces of theme of
femininity, and its complexities in marriage, a theme which she later develops throughout the story
using the image of the storm. She presents the image of the Storm in its natural life when she says, the
storm kept Bobinot away from his wife Calixta, because he had to stay in the general store, until it
ends. However, one has to search for the real meaning of the story as it extends. Chopin uses the
image of the storm in the story. There is an underneath meaning of the storm in this story

All of the Brewsters think they are doing people a favor or helping throughout the play when in reality their actions are not entirely generous. For example the Aunts don t believe they are doing a bad thing by killing these people, instead they think they are helping old men find peace. Aunt Abby expresses this feeling when talking to Martha saying, He sat dead in that chair looking so peaceful remember, Martha we made up our minds right then and there that if we could help other lonely old men to the same place we would (26). Though Abby had her reasons for doing such a kind thing and she truly believed she was helping, she still killed him. Mortimer also goes out of his way to be kind to Elaine. (Background about racial oppression by the LAPD). Rodney King was an African American motorist who inspired positive police reforms after he had a brutal conflict and was beaten by four members of the LAPD. Rodney King s encounter resulted in a social and legal compromise because the incident made people aware of police brutality, gave African Americans a voice against police abuse, and resulted in reforms to the way that the LAPD responds to communities of color. The Los Angeles Riots were the second riots to happen after the Watts Riots. The L.A Riots took place on April 9, 1992. The riots broke out in less than a day and lasted five days and killed more than 50 people and left more than 2,000 injured. On April 30, 1992, writers Richard A. Furthermore, these movies also portray the views that the gang members have on females. Gwendolyn D. Pough, the author of What It Do, Shorty, stated perfectly the minimal number of roles available for them in hood related movies. Ms. Pough wrote However, what does come across clearly as one reads the Steffans s memoir and Bryan s tell all are the ways in which some women have chosen to buy into the sexism and misogyny that limits the roles that women can play in hip hop culture (Pough. pg. 83). Based on the quote, woman in hood related movies are often portrayed as sex object, who are only useful to the man by supporting his needs, the only females who are not viewed so negatively are the mothers of the gang members. Although, there are female characters pushing back this stigma of women in the hood, who are tacking roles of female empowerment. Sadly, these roles are not abundant in the film industry. Movies that portray the hood life are very accurate, these films depict the life of both man and woman in the streets of South L.A. or Chicago and even New York. In these films, the male is shown as an aggressive dope dealer, who only cares about money and sex, on the other hand, the female characters are shown as depends of their male partners, who must obey what the man says. • 26. Baptism and the Holy Spirit Baptism and the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts Water Baptism vs Baptized with the Spirit and Power The book of Acts begins with Jesus parting words to His apostles before His ascension to the right hand of God the Father. In His opening statement Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, and He does this by distinguishing the coming of the Spirit from the baptism of John. For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. (Acts 1:5) John had testified the same of his baptism, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. But the following two consideration indicate that the unique baptism of the Holy Spirit which accompanied the apostle s ministry is not normative for the Lord s church. ● First, not everyone who was baptized (with water) later received the baptism of the Spirit. In fact, of the (at least) nine occurrences of water baptism in the book of Acts, two are followed by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and one is preceded by the Holy Spirit precedes baptism by water (Acts 10). Pentecost is a unique instance where three thousand are baptized with water after the Apostles were baptized by the Holy Spirit. So we see that already in the book of Acts that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is not the normal and regular form of baptism. On the other hand, every convert to the Holy Church in Acts is baptized with water. This is why the church has taught that the baptism of water in the name of the Holy Trinity is a sacrament which works faith and gives the forgiveness of all sin, while the unique baptism of the Holy Spirit is not a sacrament, but a sign of the unique office of Jesus (ascended to the right hand of God) and of the apostles (sent by Jesus to teach His Word). ● Second, as just mentioned, the signs that accompanied Jesus ministry also accompany the apostolic preaching, showing that their word was pure. • 27. Socrates Examined Life 1. According to Socrates, the Examined Life is a life engaged in conversation with oneself, others, and questioning for the good. Socrates was put on trial for what Athens called corrupting young people because he was so influential in his teaching about the examined life. He was remarkably passionate about philosophy believing that the unexamined life is not worth living and that he would rather die than give up his beliefs. However, the examined life is not sufficient for living a morally worthwhile life. 2. To live a morally worthwhile life you need to know what is right and what is wrong. A commonly accepted meaning or synonym of right is what is morally correct. A generally acknowledged meaning or synonym of wrong is unjust or immoral. 3. Knowledge of right and wrong cannot be acquired solely through the examined life; one will gain these values through the social framework and a philosophical aptitude as well. On the other hand, it is acceptable to not meet one of the contributing factors to living a morally worthwhile life because it is not dependent on a single factor like solely the examined life. One may say that everyone has to be philosophical to live a morally worthwhile life. • 28. Diffusion Of Altruism Essay This paper looks at the theories relevant to the diffusion of prosocial behavior as it spreads through social media. Altruism is delineated from other types of prosocial behavior because it is directly related to empathy. The two theories of motivation for prosocial behavior are the Empathy Altruism Hypothesis and Social Exchange Theory. These two motivational states outline the paradox of altruism, which infers that selfless behavior can provide benefits to those engaging in it. When looking at the chasm in the Diffusion of Innovation, presented by Everett Rogers, these theories can be applied in order to accelerate the diffusion across the chasm. Messages that elicit empathic responses should target the innovators and early adopters. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first opinion lies in the Empathy Altruism Hypothesis. This hypothesis, created by Daniel Batson, studies altruistic behaviors and links their production to empathic concern for others (Batson, 2011). Batson (2011) would argue that prosocial behavior can be elicited from empathic concern, whereas others have argued there are only self serving processes at work. The alternate opinion comes from Social Exchange Theory, which applies economic principles to social relationships (Miller, 2013). As Shari Miller describes in her article from the Salem Press Encyclopedia, social exchanges happen because people make choices that create maximum benefits and minimize personal disadvantages (Miller, 2013). When this theory is applied to prosocial behavior as its primary motivation, the actions can quickly be reduced to social behavior instead. The reductionist approach of Social Exchange spins the motivations for any social behavior as purely self serving. While this may be true of some surface level prosocial behavior, there is still the observation that it can be selflessly motivated. Empathy generated altruism falls directly opposite of reward seeking prosocial behaviors. These two concepts create a polarization in motivational states. The altruism paradox, is defined in the Salem Press Encyclopedia of Health as the difference between prosocial behavior that is self serving and prosocial behavior that is ...
