Gender Inequality During Latin American Countries
How has gender inequality affected women in Latin American countries? Gender inequality has
affected the women of Latin America in a multitude of ways, but it can be argued that the division of
gender equality is extremely prominent when analyzing reproductive rights and health care access.
Compared to countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, Latin America is
far behind in terms of civil rights and reproductive rights. The lack of rights is not in question; women
s barrier to reproductive health can be seen through anecdotes and statistics. The question thus
becomes, is there a definite answer to why these rights are absent? Factors concerning the absence of
reproductive rights include cultural norms and religion, but the one that plays the biggest role remains
the lack of female political leaders in Latin American countries. What exactly is it that is keeping
Latin America behind other countries in terms of being progressive regarding reproductive rights?
Women s political absence in Latin America has shaped reproductive rights and health care services
immensely. While Latin America s lack of reproductive rights would seem to be common knowledge,
many are unaware of how exactly women in Latin American countries are affected. In a fairly large
number of countries, abortion is illegal. In regards to this, in 2008, 12 percent of maternal deaths in
Latin America and the Caribbean were due to unsafe abortions. (Mane, 2013) 95% of the abortions

Richard Wright s Black Boy Today
Richard Wright was born after the Civil War but before the Civil Right Era. If he were writing an
autobiography titled Black Boy today (2016) about a black boy growing up in the United States, he
would write about racial profiling against African Americans, the wide education gap between black
and white, and the unequal job opportunity for African American.
Wright would examine racial profiling if he was to write Black Boy today. Racial profiling is a very
serious issue in the society today. Many African American were being target, and in some case
murdered by law enforcement official because of their race. On August 9, 2014, a white police officer
named Darren Wilson shoot an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown multiple time in
Ferguson, Mo. According to news article From Ferguson to Charleston and Beyond, Anguish about
Race Keep Building , Even though there was a video tape showing that the black teenager was
unarmed, the county grand jury still decided not to indict the police office because they believed the
old assumption that African Americans are more likely to be criminals. Grand juries have tended to
give the benefit of the doubt to police officers. National polls revealed deep divisions in how whites
and blacks viewed the facts in each case. Whites were more likely to believe officers accounts
justifying the use of force. Blacks tended to see deeper forces at work: longstanding police bias
against black men and a presumption that they are criminals .

Martial Arts Has Impacted Every Facet Of Korean Life
From the earliest times in Korean history, martial arts have impacted every facet of Korean life.
Martial arts in Korea have remained fluid and ever changing as a result of movement and connections
of other cultures and countries throughout Asia. It is difficult for us as Americans to understand just
how significant of an impact martial arts had on everyday life during this time in Korean history;
however, we can look into multiple key relationships to attain a better understanding of just how much
that influence had throughout the Korean peninsula. The history of Korean martial arts is rooted in
their deep connection to Korean government, culture, and religion. The three kingdoms period began
around 57 AD and can be seen as the true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This terrain allowed for very power legs, leading to even more powerful kicks. The Korean martial art
of Tae Kwon Do originated from subak and taekkyon. While this martial arts has its origins dating
back thousands of years, it is relatively modern only dating back to the 1940s and 1950s. The martial
art of tae kwon do is quite aggressive, strength versus strength. Typically tae kwon do is referred to as
a hard style art, where as hapkido, another Korean martial art is considered a soft style art. Hapkido
originated from yool sool, as well as tae kyon and unlike tae kwon do, it focused on throws and kicks
rather than strength versus strength. Hapkido and tae kwon do alike each have there differences, but
modern hapkido and tae kwon do are still seen in numerous military and security organizations as
effective methods of self defense. Korean governments, especially that of Koguryo saw an enormous
connection to the martial arts. These connections ranged from the structure and function of the
government to the basis of all order and infrastructure. Early Korean warriors and tribal units needed
martial arts as they took over and conquered other territories. Consequently, the foundations of each of
the three kingdoms is that of a fighting spirit, and marital arts. Society also encouraged the
advancement of martial arts as a means of protection from outside invasions and as a way to advance
yourself socially. The constant threat of attack from an opposing force made

Semiotic Analysis Of An Advertisement
Introduction Semiotics refers to the study of signs in culture, symbols and their use or interpretation.
The following semiotic analysis of the advertisement for Frank Rippingille s patent cooking stoves
and an image of the Summer at the Cape of Good Hope Afternoon tea on the stoep by Renhardt,
which proceeds by a description of the denotative meaning of the image and the advertisement and
then followed by the interpretation of the connotative meaning by drawing on knowledge of the
Victorian values (Walvin 1987). Semiotic analysis1: Summer at the Cape of Good Hope Afternoon

These stoves were a product of the empire as they were manufactured in Birmingham in the 1880 s
(Oil cooking stoves[Sa]). By using these stoves it actually shows support to the empire and hence
national pride (Walvin 1987). The woman who is handing out the stoves is Queen Victoria because of
the crown on her head and the lion on her chair and lion represent royalty (Symbolic meaning of
lions[Sa]). She was the Queen of Britain from 1837 to 1901 which was the second largest reign in the
British monarch. The people who come from different cultures represent the different nations and this
is justified by the text which states Englands gift a blessing to all nations Queen Victoria represents
England and the gift is the stove. The smile on the man who is carrying a board while looking at
Queen Victoria while she is handing out stoves shows that he is happy and he has a cheerful character.
The black man who is receiving the stove is on his knees which expresses gratitude and shows good
manners and respect to Queen Victoria, which is one of the Victorian values (Walvis

Response To The Author Chaplains The Locket
In the short story The Locket, it is believed that the author Chaplains writing style has kept the readers
guessing throughout the story. Many would agree that the ending of the story was a shocker and few
expected that conclusion. They would agree that the father in law proceeding with the funeral
arrangements supporting the assumption the deceased person in the coffin was Edmund because he
had the locket around his neck played into the authors plot twist. People would also say that the end of
the story was intriguing, especially when Octavia opened the letter from the priest, returning her
locket to her expressing his sorrow of the death of her husband Edmund. Only to find out at the very
end Edmund was not dead and he was waiting for her at the door.
In the conclusion of the story, many would say they didn t really know what was going to happen in
the end of the book. Chaplain threw a curve ball and surprised all at the ending of the story. The writer
did a very good job of confusing readers that the man at the campfire that died was Edmund. Allowing
everyone to conclude even the priest character played into this misdirection that Edmund was dead.

In the letter, the priest said he had found a body with the locket around his neck making the
assumption it was Edmund. This gave the readers a feeling that the assumption was true. Thus,
everyone believed that he was dead and that there was no turning back for Octavia. It made everyone
feel as if the story was over. The author tricked the readers as no one suspected at this part of the story
that Edmund was still alive or that the boy from the campfire stole the locket from Edmund because

Language is our main means of communication and learning, without it we would not understand each
other efficiently enough to communicate our needs and thoughts. It is a very complicated feature of
human cognition. Yet children acquire language very naturally and quickly without any formal
instruction. Many language experts such as Chomsky (1965) and Pinker (2000) believe this suggests
that there is some innate predisposal to acquire language, by this it is meant a genetic mechanism that
holds what he calls the universal grammar common to all languages. Noam Chomsky call s language
the human essence (1972). He is a discontinuity theorist, this means he believes the human brain
appears to have an inborn capacity to learn and obtain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humans who began to learn language would find it easier to survive and then pass on their language
to their children and so on. Therefore Darwin s theory does not support Chomsky s claim of humans
having an innate predisposal to acquire languages as he believed it was something that has evolved
and then been developed over time, not something that has always been present in our genetics.
Most animals communicate with one another non verbally, for example some bee species have very
specific and evolved ways of communicating with each other about the location and quality of food
(Winston, 1987, p. 25) or the emperor penguin which uses an intricate set of calls that are very vital
for individual recognition between parents, offspring, and mates, demonstrating a very wide range of
individual calls from all the penguins (Williams 1995, p. 68). As all these forms of communication
appear to be very natural to the species they are relevant to, it suggests they are easily developed and
learnt through the social context the being is in. Perhaps this means that these forms of communication
are innately predisposed to the specific species, which would surely mean language to be innately
governed within humans as it s our way of communication. However one cannot really compare the
communications of animals to humans as the humans have a much greater mental capacity than that of
any other species. Although other species can communicate, the

Hollywood Unforgiven
The 1992 American western film Unforgiven, is directed and produced by the leading role in the film,
Clint Eastwood. The film exemplifies many plays upon notions of ideology. In order for the film to be
valid, the viewers must examine and understand the differences and similarities between the historical
and cultural aspects of the American West. Hollywood portrays the West to be adventurous, action
packed, mysterious, and the opportunity for freedom and profit. Unforgiven is a film that portrays a
typical Hollywood setting of the wild west, with bandits, sheriffs, prostitutes, alcohol and guns. Since
this film is a fictional story, it is based on narrative assumptions of stories, legends, myths that are
passed down from families to primary resources. Though Hollywood exaggerates these stories, they
create and work with those given assumptions to create something entertaining. These characters in

Persuasive Speech On Teddy Bear
Okay, we get it. People want to have pet companions so they can cuddle them and play with them. Yet
in some instances, these dogs are bigger and larger than their owners, right? Well, it is because you
have gotten the wrong choice of dog breeds as a pet. If you really want to have a pet that you can
cuddle (not that you can t cuddle the larger ones), then I suggest that you go for pets who are really
cute and adorable in your eyes that you just want to hug them, squish them (easy on that!), and play
with them.
Though large dogs can also be cute at times, there are still not as adorable as some other dogs that
look like bears. I m not really talking about those grizzly bears, rather, what I meant are teddy bears.

Banning Open Carry And Concealed Carry
When citizens have the freedom to legally defend themselves, but are restricted by unaccommodating
gun laws, what defense possibilities do they have? With population based restrictions on open carry
and concealed carry, residents of California cannot possess firearms unless the weapons are stored
inside of their homes or in the trunk of their cars. Although Californians can certainly defend
themselves at home, self defense becomes much more problematic when they leave their private
residence as they cannot possess firearms with rare exceptions. With that being said, how does the
state of California reasonably expect its citizens to defend themselves without the ability to possess
firearms in a public setting? State laws prohibiting open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the opponents of open carry are armed with rational concerns, they need not worry about it
in the state of California as open carry is prohibited there. California is also one of the most restrictive
states when it comes to gun control, yet according to the FBI s uniformed crime report, California led
the nation with 151,879 violent crimes (murder and non negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and
aggravated assault) in 2013. In the state with the highest amount of violent crime, self defense at home
and in public is a necessity, but that necessity is compromised by the prohibition of open carry. The
belief that criminals can easily remove a firearm from an individual exercising open carry is absurd
considering modern holsters are now designed with retention in mind. Logically, criminals would
avoid attacking someone who is exercising open carry due to the likelihood of being killed in an
altercation or being forced to kill the individual and face capital punishment. Although people
exercising open carry can cause panic from the community and police officers, the issue is generally
resolved without complications and programs to raise awareness on gun rights would improve
relations. Raising public awareness about open carry would benefit both open carry and the public due

Movie Critique On The Industrial Organizational Psychology...
Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz
Introduction
The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being
that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to
the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z
(Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial
organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition to
the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other characters
and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such as
organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this
moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998).
In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the colony
princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his newfound
love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Z is sent into
battle during his quest to re connect with Princess Bala (Darnell et al., 1998). However, he turns out to
be the only soldier to survive the battle. This results in him seeing the princess again, insulting the

What Is The History Of Ice Hockey
Hockey
Some people depict that ice hockey as having come from lacrosse and field games played by Nova
Scotia s Micmac Indians. Others believe that hockey evolved in northern Europe. But it is likely that it
came from early games played with stick and ball in about the mid 1800s. Ice hockey as we know it
was most defiantly a product of Canada in the 1850s ( History of Ice Hockey ).
The first organize and logged game of hockey was played in Victoria rink in Montréal, Canada. The
first rules where written by a group of students at McGill University also in Montréal. They set it up to
use a puck instead of a ball. It took a couple of years ice hockey spread all over Canada. But before

The problem of Free Will
In the following essay I will describe the problem of free will and explain several different responses
to the problem. These responses will be derived from the determinist, libertarian, and compatibilist
views. I will end the essay by arguing that the compatibilist view seems to best address the problem of
free will, but does not necessarily solve it. The problem of free will arises from two conflicting ideas.
The first idea is that people have free will. Having free will means that people have the ability to
choose and act on what they would like to do. Most people seem accept this idea easily and live their
lives believing that to some extent they are in control of the choices they make. If this idea is true then
people can be held responsible and subsequently praised or blamed for their choices or actions. For
example, a male student named Bob can be blamed for cheating if he chooses to use his notes while
taking his test even though the professor instructed his class to not use their notes. He can be blamed
for cheating because Bob chose to use his notes on his own and no one forced Bob to cheat. The
second of the two conflicting ideas that most people seem to readily accept is known as determinism.
Determinism is at odds with free will because it states that every event has a cause, meaning even the
choices that we make are not caused by ourselves (Conee and Sider 113). In other words, the cause of
something can be indefinitely traced backwards. Science seems to

Victor Jara was a musician and political activist in a time of terminal in Chile.
Jara was born on September 23rd, 1932 in Lonquen to a family of peasants. Lonquen is a town in

His mother insisted on an education for her children and they were sent to a catholic school in

Advertising Old Spice Opens With Isaiah Mustafa
The commercial Questions advertising Old Spice opens with Isaiah Mustafa also known as the man
your man can smell like in nothing but a towel. He starts by addressing the women of the world with a
suggestive hello ladies and continuing to further question women on what they want in a man. It then
uses the power of rhetorical strategies such as ethos and pathos, with humor and gender stereotypes to
connect with the target audience and convince them Old Spice is the product for them. The narrator
initially addresses women appealing to their desire to make their man more attractive, while targeting
men who want to be more attractive to women. Old Spice commercials offer little logic or statistics to
back their product, however their use of sex appeal and humor play into peoples emotions perhaps
making them feel insecure which has proven to be highly effective in selling this brand.
As the commercial asks, so ladies should your man smell like an Old Spice man? Well who wouldn t
want an adventurous guy that seems to be the perfect man? The use of ethos to establish a strong
character in this commercial is overwhelming; Isaiah himself is a former NFL player (Mustafa).
Mustafa has defining attributes like chiseled abs and broad shoulders; he has a deep voice and a
bearded face helping him to truly embody the image of a real masculine man. He is both physically fit
and attractive embodying the image every man strives to be by establishing himself as a perfect man

The Color Code
Importance of Color Code The Color Code is a book written by Taylor Hartman. This book talks about
four personality colors, and how a person of a certain color would act in different situation. The book
shows what would motivate someone, and what they should avoid or be aware of in their personality
type. The Color Code can improve one s school, relationship, and job success if applied to one s life
correctly. Learning the color code matters because it is important for a student to gain a better
understanding of oneself. Gaining understanding of oneself and those around you can help ones solve
conflict whether it s in school, or a work place. For example, let s say there has been a conflict in the

My core personality colors were both the colors red and white, which is odd since their core motives
are almost opposites, red being power, white being peace. As I read further into the book, I found that
when I am surrounded by other people with white personality colors, my red personality color will
come out, and lead the group with confidence and precision. But, when I am surrounded with a group
of red or yellow personality colors, my white personality would show, and I tend to close off and want
to be left alone by the others. By understanding this concept, I try to plan accordingly by choosing
groups that contains people with white personality traits. By doing this, it helps me have a better
learning experience and gives me the ability to experience leadership. Furthermore, I now understand
that when other people try to take over the situation and try to order me to do something, that causes
me to be more angry and stubborn. Realizing this ahead of time, I make sure that I prepare myself to
be acceptable to other people s points of view and suggestions, no matter how much my red
personality wants to take control of the situation. Overall, I apply the personality concepts to myself
by planning ahead of time to avoid situations that may bring negative consequences, and knowing
when I might get mad, so I can also avoid conflict. Especially when interacting with others for school
projects, I realize what situations cause me to want to take over and possible step on other people s
toes. Identifying these situations help me to let others have a chance to learn and experience things,
rather than taking over. In conclusion, the Color Code can improve success in the future by helping to
avoid conflict, having an understanding of others, and how to be more considerate toward other people
of different personality

Lean Manufacturing Is A Method Of Reducing Waste
1) INTRODUCTION: Lean manufacturing is a method of reducing waste (muda) in the
manufacturing system. It also considers the waste due to overload and waste dude to over burden.
Lean manufacturing also best known as Toyota production system or kaizen production system.
Although the Toyota production system was introduced more than a century ago it has continue to
develop over time. It was practiced by the Henry Ford for the manufacturing of Ford model T which
was very successful between the years 1908 to 1920 which almost sold 2 Million cars a year. Later on
it was developed by the Toyota in Japan. The main idea behind the lean manufacturing is to value the
customer needs by reducing the waste and achieving good products with more value by consuming
less resources. Muda is defined as the material or the activity for which the customer is not willing to
pay. The main task of lean manufacturing is to identify Muda and to get rid of it. These products are
created by using less human effort, less space, less capital, less time to produce high quality.
There are eight kinds of Muda mentioned in Lean manufacturing:
1. Waste due to unwanted motion
2. Waste due to waiting
3. Waste of conveyance
4. Waste due to correction
5. Waste due to over production
6. Waste due to over processing
7. Waste of Inventory
8. Waste due to knowledge disconnection
There are five steps that represent a continue cycle that leads to successful implementation of lean
manufacturing.

The Imbalances Agriculture in China
Imagine that you are studying at a pleasant university in the countryside. Every day a professor on
tour comes and gives fascinating speech on agriculture. Sounds nice, right? Before long, this kind of
new rural university might be popular in China, for the development of education and agriculture as
well as a solution of too fast urbanization. With 1.4 billion people to feed, China is now the largest and
maybe the most imbalanced agricultural country. Per capita incomes in rural regions vary a lot. Some
farm to make their fortunes, while others farm to live. Moreover, tractors and chemical fertilizer
produces fine crop as well as great disaster. In fact, the negative effect is even profounder. For
example, hardly can you turn soil polluted by fertilizer into what it used to be. Its micro structure has
been damaged irreversibly. In some areas, people are finding their yield absolutely depends on
chemicals. Something must be done to save the COUNTRY. As a result of tech development, students
are liberated to go to cities for further education, which is commonly believed to be an access to white
collar. Bad news is, however, no job is available when they graduate. Obviously, that is a joke to them.
Worse still, cities are expanding and farmland is decreasing as fast as it can. And the result of arable
land loss is that more people are pushed into urban slums. The urban area in BTH (Beijing Tianjin
Hebei region) increased by 71% between 1990 and

A Brief Note On Depression And The Depression
Robyn Lawhorn
July 11, 2015
Psychology 100
Mrs. Fischer
Hours Worked: 22 Major depression, also known as unipolar depression, is one of the most common
mental illnesses. Over nine million adults each year suffer from depression. Many people don t
understand what depression really is, including myself until I did a lot of research over this subject.
Major depression is more than a temporary state of being sad. It is a persistent state that can
significantly impair an individual s thoughts, behavior, daily activities, and physical health. According
to The Stanford School of Medicine, they said that major depressive disorder impacts all racial, ethnic,
and socioeconomic groups and can occur at any age. (Depression Research Clinic) Depression is a
common, but serious illness that can occur in people of all ages; teenagers, adults, and older adults.
Depression is a condition that reportedly affects one in every ten Americans at some point in their
lives. The incidence of depression is actually higher in some states than others. Certain ethnicities also
report higher depression rates than others. According to Healthline, the number of patients diagnosed
with depression increases by approximately 20% each year. (Healthline) In the United States,
Oklahoma, Arizona, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have the highest
reported rates of depression. These states also show high rates of other negative health outcomes such
as obesity, heart disease,

The Influence of the Greeks and Romans on Architecture
Introduction
Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness. (Gehry, 2012). What Frank
Gehry was trying to say in simple terms was our culture cannot do without proper appreciation of its
classical roots and it goes without saying that the Romans and Greeks have influenced art and
architecture with its classical style in a number of different ways. Allow me to give a definition for the
word classical. Classical refers to any art or architecture modelled after ancient Roman or Greek
styles. In this essay I will be discussing what the word architecture means in architecture, tracing its
origins through Greek and Roman civilisation and comparing the key similarities of these two
different but similar influential cultures. I will also be referring to a few examples of past and present
examples of classical styles and scrutinizing from these examples why and how the style of classical
architecture has evolved and still stayed appropriate in our very different contemporary cultures.
Classical architecture
(Classicalism in architecture has been in interpreted in a number of ways. Classical architecture is a
term used to refer to buildings from the classical period of European history, spanning the rise of
Greece into a major cultural power and ending with the collapse of the Roman Empire. Many
architects are influenced by the styles and themes this style of architecture, and they revived these
themes in the architectural style known as neoclassical

Should 16 And 17-Year Olds Be Allowed To Vote Analysis
In her article, Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the poll, Annys Shin
explains into debt of the issue of whether or not 16 and 17 year old citizens should be allowed to vote.
I believe that 16 and 17 year olds should be allowed to vote because they are affected by many of the
political issues that are being debated on today. Takoma Park City Council voted to lower the legal
voting age to 16 for its residents and the majority voted in favor of it.The reason was to increase voter
turnout in the polls and I think was a great way to do that. Shin quotes Rob Ritchie, director of the
national reform organization FairVote and a Takoma Park resident, when she writes, Eighteen year
olds, it turns out, are not a very good first voting age group, Richie said, because many of them are in
the midst of leaving their childhood homes. This is very true because ... Show more content on

Shin writes, Others predicted that the 16 and 17 year olds most likely to vote are from politically
active homes and are thus likely to amplify the power of an already well represented group. This was
an unfair generalization as this is not the case of all. This past 2016 presidential election is a prime
example. Many of my friends have their own opinions on issues and other topics which largely
disagrees with what their parents believe. For example, myself included, many of our parents are pro
life and disagree with the legalization of gay marriage, while many of us are pro choice and support
the LGBTQ+ community. This led to many parents voting for Trump, as he has the same political
opinions as them in those topics. None of us could vote for Clinton, even though we were well
informed on the issues, because we are all under the legal voting

English has been used in many different ways since we ever started speaking it. Now as we move into

someone. It is also used by professionals who are at work each day, on travel, or work related matters.

Doctors and nurses may also use medical terminology when discussing something in front of a patient
in order to prevent undue anxiety. Medical jargon is not at all meant to speak in pig latin in front of a
patient. It is so that there is no mistake when doctors are conveying information about a patient to each
other. For example, to a lay person, fever may mean that the person feels hot, or that the temperature is
above 100 Fahrenheit. But no one really knows and can cause a lot of confusion. With medical terms,
things are very clear, so that even a surgeon in France can read a scientific journal article and know
exactly what the author means. That way, also, medicine can be global and that the medical societies
can share ideas and innovations. Since everything in a patient s medical records must be documented,
from signs and symptoms, to the patient s medical history, to the final diagnosis and treatment, it saves
the doctors and all other medical personnel a considerable amount of time to use a universally
accepted form of medical terminology. And, even more importantly to use medical terminology,
means it will be safer when all medical professionals, from doctors and nurses, lab techs to radiology
techs, etc. use the same universal medical terminology so they don t have to try to guess what was
ordered or charted on the patient s medical records or what procedure a patient needs.

Hormones are the building blocks of life. Without them, you can t create new lives. However,
hormones are starting to cause people to worry. Breast development is on the rise. Girls, on average,
are beginning to mature and grow breasts at the age of nine, which causes one to raise suspicion
considering how the average in the 1960 s was around age 11 (Steingraber 746). Early breast
development can be linked to breast cancer later on in life. A common misconception is that all man
made chemicals are harmful, and all natural chemicals are good for us. However, many natural
chemicals are just as harmful to human health, if not more so (Lorch). Dorea Reeser provides a
different perspective to counteract the harmful effects of manmade chemicals. Dorea Reeser upholds a
Ph. D. in environmental chemistry at the University of Toronto. She researches and studies the
chemical reactions at water surfaces, and how the chemical and physical properties influence these
reactions and the release of important trace gases into the troposphere.
The idea that nature can harm us is not new. Have you ever heard of malaria, HIV, tuberculosis,
botulism or tetanus? Why, then, are so many convinced that anything and everything natural is
healthier for us than synthetic products? It s true that modern chemistry has brought us a number of
toxic chemicals, like DDT and dioxins, but do you really think that nature s chemicals are any less

Power Transmission Of Electric Utilities
Electric Utilities are a vital industry to the overall economy, and to our very way of life. Keeping the
lights on, is for many people, the reason they go to work, that along with food, and other necessities.
Therefore these companies serve a very important role, and just like other industries there is
competition. Specifically, for our purposes, the electric utilities industry I m going to focus on is the
transmission of power from a generator, to a distribution center, another utilities company, or the final
consumer. The key economic drivers, in this industry revolve, as always, around demand. Therefore
consumption, number of households, price of electricity, manufacturing capacity and public capital
investments are all derived from the demand coming from the end users, in the economy (IBISworld).
These metrics are a result of a heavily regulated market, in which the consumers, and therefore its
agent, the government, hold most of the power in this industry. Electric power transmission is a
mature industry in the United States, and its projected growth over the next ten years is a modest 1.2%
(Morningstar). This industry will be examined as a whole and then comparatively, as I inspect
companies performing in this sector and their relative performance. EXTERNAL ENVIORNMENT
When assessing the external environment of the electric utilities industry, a PESTLE analysis is
appropriate to determine significant external factors affecting this industry (Vrabac). Of these

The Reflex-Hierarchical Model
1) How do the reflex hierarchical and systems model of motor control differ?
The reflex hierarchical model assumes that the central nervous system (CNS) is organized
hierarchically, with higher centers controlling lower centers. According to this model, movements are
elicited by sensory input or controlled by a central motor program that utilizes open and closed loop
controls. The person utilizes a generalized motor program and adapts it to fit the needs of the task and
environment. Unlike the reflex hierarchical model, the systems model assumes that movements are
organized by functional needs or goals and that movements arise from the interaction of multiple
systems, hence the name systems model. These systems are self organizing and heterarchical ... Show

The Book Joshu A Parable For Today
To begin with, I really enjoyed the book by the name of Joshua: A Parable For Today , was a great and
interested read relating to Jesus Christ. I believe readers should take time and read this book for many
reasons and one them is that it makes you think throughout the whole book or novel for clues and
strange things which makes the book more interesting and very fun to read throughout the entire

things like, as I was reading briefly through the book I pictured, saw, or visualized Joshua and God

Bulimia is an especially serious disease that does not only hurt the bulimic, but also everyone that

because my sister suffers from bulimia nervosa. I have personally witnessed my sister¹s body and
health decay is very upsetting. The disorder also puts a strain on the entire family. No one wants to

definition, bulimia nervosa is a multifaceted disorder with psychological, physiologic, developmental
and cultural components. This definition states that there is no single underlying factor that causes this
disorder. A person may have a genetic predisposition for contracting this disorder. There are also other
factors that can cause an individual to become bulimic. There are two predisposing factors and they
are psychological and personality. Examples of psychological and personality factors are

Iran, as well as the entire Middle East, was a land where many pagan gods and goddesses were being
born . During the time of Zoroaster, Mithra was one prominent religion practiced by the Iranians.
Those who were followers of Mithra (as well as other religions) would sacrifice animals to pay
homage to their gods. It wasn t uncommon for worshippers to consume narcotics and intoxicating
beverages called Haoma (Zaehner 38). Zoroaster s revolt against such ritualistic practices in Mithra
and other Iranian religions is noted when he cried out to Ahura Mazda for help. When wilt thou strike
down this filthy drunkness, the prophet exclaims, with which the priests (karapans) evilly delude (the
people) as do the wicked rulers of the providences in (full) consciousness (of what they do). (Zaehner
38) In response, Zoroaster had received a vision from Ahura Mazda, the Wise Lord, who appointed
him to teach the truth. Initially, Zoroaster did not try to overthrow current religions. But instead he
placed Ahura Mazda as the Head God . Through his attempts to slowly reform the Iranian religions,
Zoroaster was opposed in his monotheistic teachings and principles by religious authorities in the area
that he preached. His enemies were the established civil and religious heads who wanted no part in
undoing the ancient national religions, which had strong ties in existing social and economic

Harms of Watching Television
There are benefits to watching TV like gaining minimal knowledge, but in comparison to how harmful
it can be that small amount of knowledge isn t worth it. Also television can harm a child s
development, encourage laziness, and cause you to obtain an addiction to it. There are so many things
that you can damage when you watch TV on a regular basis, why do this to yourself?
To begin, the first few years of life are very critical for a child s development, why ruin it by using a
TV as a babysitter? Research states that children who are always watching TV, or even just have it on
as background noise, aren t as likely to develop Theory of mind . Theory of mind is the idea that you
aren t the only one that has a mind. Since you can t actually see someone else s mind it s only logical
to base it off of you having one , it allows people to come to the realization that other people have
beliefs and desires different from their own, children who are constantly exposed to television have a
more likely risk of not developing this which can lead to autism, schizophrenia, and other such things.
To add, children who are always watching TV are more likely to form an attention disorder and this
can result in academic and social trouble. These disabilities can lead to a very challenging life that
might have been avoidable if you tried to help them walk, develop speech, and obtain reading skills,
instead of just sitting them in front of a TV all day.

portrayed by fast transformation and improvements in almost every circle from advances in medical,
scientific and technological area to changes in populace development and location. After some time,
this quick change profoundly influenced the nation s state of mind: an age that started with a certainty

The main dilemma they all faced and to which they all found various solutions was how to adapt the
historical design to contemporary needs. The most popular Victorian styles were: Neoclassicism, the
Gothic Revival, the High Victorian Gothic, Later Victorian Gothic, the Architecture of New
Industrialism. Despite the fact that there were a wide range of sorts of Victorian houses they all shared
many of the same detailed architectural features such as: bay windows, dentils, columns, dormers,
turrets, mansard roofs and many more. When it comes to literature, writers such as Dickens, the
Bronte sisters and Sir Walter Scott were the ones who had a big contribution in this century. Dickens
wrote in different styles, from comedy to tragedy. He wrote about the defects of the legal system,
dangers to public health, the problems of factory employment, to the scandals in private schools and
corruption in government. Just how Charles Dickens said in A Tale of Two Cities ,,It was the best of
times; it was the worst of times because for industrialists and the aristocracy, life could seemingly not
get any better; but for the working poor, the value of life was perhaps at its lowest levels in modern
history. Mentalities and perspectives changed since then and even if it had ups and downs it remained
a true Age of Paradox that made the world as it

How Does Friesen Use Magic In The Tempest
In opposition to Gibson, Ryan Friesen believes that Shakespeare was aware of magic in his culture,
but that he used it more as a plot device rather than as a manifestation of his own beliefs in the
supernatural. Friesen explains that while witchcraft and diabolic magic were popular among
audiences, universal themes were more important. In relation to both Doctor Faustus and Macbeth, he
says sin and a hunger for power are themes that are contradicted if the tragic protagonist s fate is
blamed more on his occult prowess than on his decisions to deceive, exploit, and murder his cohorts,
(122). This helps to show how Shakespeare s writing expertize was illustrated even better with his
delicate use of the supernatural. Other playwrights of early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As far as scholars can tell, all of the supernatural in this play was made up entirely by Shakespeare,
disregarding the chance that he was inspired by a play that was never found (Gibson 139). In the eyes
of Friesen, however, The Tempest was more concerned with the aesthetic and thematic use of magic
rather than using it as a depiction of a particular supernatural being. Friesen says, in the use of magic
as a thematic tool, a reflection of ways in which knowledge and power are gained and governance
sought on a middle ground between theory and experience, (Friesen 190). As Prospero s magic is not
particularly based off one of Shakespeare s magic toolbox materials, Gurr claims that The Tempest s
highly spectacled use of staging operates as a metaphor for Shakespeare s own art (191). In fact, this
play is the only one that actually uses stage spectacle and stage business as much as it does (191). This
stage business included a quaint device for Ariel to use to make the banquet vanish, in which the
banquet would have needed to be fastened to a reversible top table (192). Henslowe s list also
included a bit about the exotic costumes the goddesses would be wearing (200). And Gurr explained
that there was likely a way to create a wet look for the mariners after the shipwreck (184). The
Tempest is such an exception to the common devices Shakespeare used, in which his focus was a little
less about the use of magic thematically, and maybe a little more about spiting his contemporaries and
other influential thinkers of the

How Can Pope John Paul II Be Considered An Effective Leader
Niccolo Machiavelli introduces particular ideals which concern effective leadership skills. Pope John
Paul II proved his ideals of leadership vastly differed from those Machiavelli proposed. During his
time as Pope, Pope John Paul II showed his love and compassion, connected with people, and
employed peaceful strategies to lead. Machiavelli would have disagreed with Pope John Paul II s
approach to leadership. Most notably, Machiavelli s positions that, It is better to be feared, than loved,
if you cannot be both, and The ends justify the means did not agree with Pope John Paul s ideology.
Machiavelli would have viewed Pope John Paul II as an ineffective leader who does not put fear in his
people because the Pope showed people who sought to harm him mercy rather than fight back or

In the early 1980s, Mehmet Ali Agca, attempted to assassinate the Pope in St. Peter s Square. Agca
shot the Pope and bullets from the gun were lodged in Pope John Paul II s abdomen very close to a
major artery. In fact, this could have killed the Pope (Meissen 4). The Pope was in grave condition
following the shooting. While most people would have demanded their persecutor to be punished,
upon his recovery Pope John Paul II actively reached out to Agca who was in jail. The Pope met with
Agca and forgave him for the shooting. The Pope s actions proved that he was a leader who was not to

The Effects Of Parental Involvement On Student s...
A.
Share something that you learner from the webcast that was new to you. Then, talk about ways that
you see yourself using that information within your school setting.
The webcast was very informative. A few factors that were shared never crossed my mind as being
influential in regards to parental involvement. The webcast suggested that the student s attendance rate
was greatly influenced by the involvement of their parents in their educational process. However, this
statement makes sense, but it s never crossed my mind. The webcast also shared that a student s
attitude towards their educational endeavors was also a direct relationship with the degree of parental
involvement in the student s education. Subsequently, the webcast also shared that the more parental
involvement the student has from their family; the chances of experiencing discipline problems
decrease. It s amazing how the involvement of the parents can cause a student to have such a positive
disposition towards their education. Parental involvement shows the students that the parents are
serious regarding their educational career; as a result it makes the student more accountable for their
education.
The webcast also shed some light on the phrase parental involvement. At first glance, most people
simply think that parents volunteering, sending in school supplies, attending PTA meeting, taking part
in parent teacher conferences sufficed as parental involvement. However, this is not the case at all.

  • 2. Gender Inequality During Latin American Countries How has gender inequality affected women in Latin American countries? Gender inequality has affected the women of Latin America in a multitude of ways, but it can be argued that the division of gender equality is extremely prominent when analyzing reproductive rights and health care access. Compared to countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, Latin America is far behind in terms of civil rights and reproductive rights. The lack of rights is not in question; women s barrier to reproductive health can be seen through anecdotes and statistics. The question thus becomes, is there a definite answer to why these rights are absent? Factors concerning the absence of reproductive rights include cultural norms and religion, but the one that plays the biggest role remains the lack of female political leaders in Latin American countries. What exactly is it that is keeping Latin America behind other countries in terms of being progressive regarding reproductive rights? Women s political absence in Latin America has shaped reproductive rights and health care services immensely. While Latin America s lack of reproductive rights would seem to be common knowledge, many are unaware of how exactly women in Latin American countries are affected. In a fairly large number of countries, abortion is illegal. In regards to this, in 2008, 12 percent of maternal deaths in Latin America and the Caribbean were due to unsafe abortions. • 3. Richard Wright s Black Boy Today Richard Wright was born after the Civil War but before the Civil Right Era. If he were writing an autobiography titled Black Boy today (2016) about a black boy growing up in the United States, he would write about racial profiling against African Americans, the wide education gap between black and white, and the unequal job opportunity for African American. Wright would examine racial profiling if he was to write Black Boy today. Racial profiling is a very serious issue in the society today. Many African American were being target, and in some case murdered by law enforcement official because of their race. On August 9, 2014, a white police officer named Darren Wilson shoot an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown multiple time in Ferguson, Mo. According to news article From Ferguson to Charleston and Beyond, Anguish about Race Keep Building , Even though there was a video tape showing that the black teenager was unarmed, the county grand jury still decided not to indict the police office because they believed the old assumption that African Americans are more likely to be criminals. Grand juries have tended to give the benefit of the doubt to police officers. National polls revealed deep divisions in how whites and blacks viewed the facts in each case. Whites were more likely to believe officers accounts justifying the use of force. Blacks tended to see deeper forces at work: longstanding police bias against black men and a presumption that they are criminals . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martial arts in Korea have remained fluid and ever changing as a result of movement and connections of other cultures and countries throughout Asia. It is difficult for us as Americans to understand just how significant of an impact martial arts had on everyday life during this time in Korean history; however, we can look into multiple key relationships to attain a better understanding of just how much that influence had throughout the Korean peninsula. The history of Korean martial arts is rooted in their deep connection to Korean government, culture, and religion. The three kingdoms period began around 57 AD and can be seen as the true ... While this martial arts has its origins dating back thousands of years, it is relatively modern only dating back to the 1940s and 1950s. The martial art of tae kwon do is quite aggressive, strength versus strength. Typically tae kwon do is referred to as a hard style art, where as hapkido, another Korean martial art is considered a soft style art. Hapkido originated from yool sool, as well as tae kyon and unlike tae kwon do, it focused on throws and kicks rather than strength versus strength. Hapkido and tae kwon do alike each have there differences, but modern hapkido and tae kwon do are still seen in numerous military and security organizations as effective methods of self defense. Korean governments, especially that of Koguryo saw an enormous connection to the martial arts. These connections ranged from the structure and function of the government to the basis of all order and infrastructure. Early Korean warriors and tribal units needed martial arts as they took over and conquered other territories. Consequently, the foundations of each of the three kingdoms is that of a fighting spirit, and marital arts. People would also say that the end of the story was intriguing, especially when Octavia opened the letter from the priest, returning her locket to her expressing his sorrow of the death of her husband Edmund. Only to find out at the very end Edmund was not dead and he was waiting for her at the door. In the conclusion of the story, many would say they didn t really know what was going to happen in the end of the book. Chaplain threw a curve ball and surprised all at the ending of the story. Language is our main means of communication and learning, without it we would not understand each other efficiently enough to communicate our needs and thoughts. It is a very complicated feature of human cognition. Yet children acquire language very naturally and quickly without any formal instruction. Many language experts such as Chomsky (1965) and Pinker (2000) believe this suggests that there is some innate predisposal to acquire language, by this it is meant a genetic mechanism that holds what he calls the universal grammar common to all languages. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans who began to learn language would find it easier to survive and then pass on their language to their children and so on. Therefore Darwin s theory does not support Chomsky s claim of humans having an innate predisposal to acquire languages as he believed it was something that has evolved and then been developed over time, not something that has always been present in our genetics. Most animals communicate with one another non verbally, for example some bee species have very specific and evolved ways of communicating with each other about the location and quality of food (Winston, 1987, p. 25) or the emperor penguin which uses an intricate set of calls that are very vital for individual recognition between parents, offspring, and mates, demonstrating a very wide range of individual calls from all the penguins (Williams 1995, p. 68). As all these forms of communication appear to be very natural to the species they are relevant to, it suggests they are easily developed and learnt through the social context the being is in. Perhaps this means that these forms of communication are innately predisposed to the specific species, which would surely mean language to be innately governed within humans as it s our way of communication. However one cannot really compare the communications of animals to humans as the humans have a much greater mental capacity than that of any other species. The film exemplifies many plays upon notions of ideology. In order for the film to be valid, the viewers must examine and understand the differences and similarities between the historical and cultural aspects of the American West. With population based restrictions on open carry and concealed carry, residents of California cannot possess firearms unless the weapons are stored inside of their homes or in the trunk of their cars. Although Californians can certainly defend themselves at home, self defense becomes much more problematic when they leave their private residence as they cannot possess firearms with rare exceptions. In the state with the highest amount of violent crime, self defense at home and in public is a necessity, but that necessity is compromised by the prohibition of open carry. The belief that criminals can easily remove a firearm from an individual exercising open carry is absurd considering modern holsters are now designed with retention in mind. Logically, criminals would avoid attacking someone who is exercising open carry due to the likelihood of being killed in an altercation or being forced to kill the individual and face capital punishment. Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz Introduction The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z (Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition to the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other characters and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such as organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998). In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the colony princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his newfound love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. • 14. The problem of Free Will In the following essay I will describe the problem of free will and explain several different responses to the problem. These responses will be derived from the determinist, libertarian, and compatibilist views. I will end the essay by arguing that the compatibilist view seems to best address the problem of free will, but does not necessarily solve it. The problem of free will arises from two conflicting ideas. The first idea is that people have free will. Having free will means that people have the ability to choose and act on what they would like to do. Most people seem accept this idea easily and live their lives believing that to some extent they are in control of the choices they make. If this idea is true then people can be held responsible and subsequently praised or blamed for their choices or actions. For example, a male student named Bob can be blamed for cheating if he chooses to use his notes while taking his test even though the professor instructed his class to not use their notes. He can be blamed for cheating because Bob chose to use his notes on his own and no one forced Bob to cheat. The second of the two conflicting ideas that most people seem to readily accept is known as determinism. Determinism is at odds with free will because it states that every event has a cause, meaning even the choices that we make are not caused by ourselves (Conee and Sider 113). In other words, the cause of something can be indefinitely traced backwards. Science seems to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since everything in a patient s medical records must be documented, from signs and symptoms, to the patient s medical history, to the final diagnosis and treatment, it saves the doctors and all other medical personnel a considerable amount of time to use a universally accepted form of medical terminology. And, even more importantly to use medical terminology, means it will be safer when all medical professionals, from doctors and nurses, lab techs to radiology techs, etc. use the same universal medical terminology so they don t have to try to guess what was ordered or charted on the patient s medical records or what procedure a patient needs. Keeping the lights on, is for many people, the reason they go to work, that along with food, and other necessities. Therefore these companies serve a very important role, and just like other industries there is competition. Specifically, for our purposes, the electric utilities industry I m going to focus on is the transmission of power from a generator, to a distribution center, another utilities company, or the final consumer. The key economic drivers, in this industry revolve, as always, around demand. Therefore consumption, number of households, price of electricity, manufacturing capacity and public capital investments are all derived from the demand coming from the end users, in the economy (IBISworld). These metrics are a result of a heavily regulated market, in which the consumers, and therefore its agent, the government, hold most of the power in this industry. The person utilizes a generalized motor program and adapts it to fit the needs of the task and environment. Those who were followers of Mithra (as well as other religions) would sacrifice animals to pay homage to their gods. It wasn t uncommon for worshippers to consume narcotics and intoxicating beverages called Haoma (Zaehner 38). Zoroaster s revolt against such ritualistic practices in Mithra and other Iranian religions is noted when he cried out to Ahura Mazda for help. Through his attempts to slowly reform the Iranian religions, Zoroaster was opposed in his monotheistic teachings and principles by religious authorities in the area that he preached. Friesen explains that while witchcraft and diabolic magic were popular among audiences, universal themes were more important. In relation to both Doctor Faustus and Macbeth, he says sin and a hunger for power are themes that are contradicted if the tragic protagonist s fate is blamed more on his occult prowess than on his decisions to deceive, exploit, and murder his cohorts, (122). As far as scholars can tell, all of the supernatural in this play was made up entirely by Shakespeare, disregarding the chance that he was inspired by a play that was never found (Gibson 139). In the eyes of Friesen, however, The Tempest was more concerned with the aesthetic and thematic use of magic rather than using it as a depiction of a particular supernatural being. Friesen says, in the use of magic as a thematic tool, a reflection of ways in which knowledge and power are gained and governance sought on a middle ground between theory and experience, (Friesen 190). As Prospero s magic is not particularly based off one of Shakespeare s magic toolbox materials, Gurr claims that The Tempest s highly spectacled use of staging operates as a metaphor for Shakespeare s own art (191). In fact, this play is the only one that actually uses stage spectacle and stage business as much as it does (191). This stage business included a quaint device for Ariel to use to make the banquet vanish, in which the banquet would have needed to be fastened to a reversible top table (192). Henslowe s list also included a bit about the exotic costumes the goddesses would be wearing (200). And Gurr explained that there was likely a way to create a wet look for the mariners after the shipwreck (184).
