Persuasive Essay About Cheating In School
Cheating in school is a form of self deception. We go to school to learn. We cheat ourselves when we
coast on the efforts and scholarship of someone else James E. Faust. Being rob of education is not
what school is for, but to learn to be ready for the future. In the television show Freak and Geeks, by
Paul Feig, the protagonist, Lindsay gets caught up in a scandal of cheating when trying to help a
classmate.
Cheating can be spotted from a mile away and happens more frequently than one would suspect.
Lindsay being a straight A student decides to tutor Daniel for his math test, so he doesn t repeat a year.
Little did she know, tutoring him was more difficult than she expected. Daniel ends up stealing the test
for Lindsay to complete and tells her I m not gonna be hitting you up every time I have a math test
(Feig). Therefore, Lindsay tries to tell Daniel that if he actually tries he could do well on the test, but
later on she ends up giving in to the pressure and helps Daniel cheat on the test. In comparison, I was
cheated off of and it almost cost me my grade. Sharing answers for homework was considered
cheating, but students thought of it as nothing. However, when someone takes credit for your work,
you feel ripped off your hard work. At the time I didn t realize the person cheated off of me until the
teacher pulls me out and the student in the hallway to talk about why are answers were similar. My
heart sank not knowing how the situation would turn out, but I knew I

The Safety For Illegal Aliens
Safety for Illegal Aliens From January to August 2014 over 200 sanctuary cities released some 8,145
illegal aliens despite the fact that they were being held on criminal charges. Of those over 8,000
released, 1,800 of them were charged with crimes such as rape and child sex abuse ( Sanctuary City
Crime Wave in 43 States). Although there is no clear definition of sanctuary city each of these cities
generally have laws that limit how far government employees and law enforcement officials are
allowed to go to aid the federal government on immigration matters. Sanctuary cities should be
outlawed because they go against federal law, the release of criminals are endangering the public, and
negative effects it has on the economy. Sanctuary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So apparently in reality, funding cuts won t do much to stop these cities from resisting ICE. Something
needs to be done in order to prevent these cities and their politicians from resisting the federal law and
ICE. Not only are these cities resisting federal law, they are also endangering their own citizens who
live there as well. On July 1, 2015 in San Francisco, CA, a well known sanctuary city, Kathryn Steinle
(32), was shot and killed while walking with her father by an undocumented illegal alien Juan
Francisco Lopez Sanchez. Before his arrest after killing Steinle, Lopez Sanchez had been convicted of
seven felonies and been deported five times ( Sanctuary Cities: How Kathryn Steinle s death ). Lopez
Sanchez had been in prison following his fifth deportation for re entering the country, but was
transferred from Victorville, CA to San Francisco because of an outstanding drug related charge
despite the fact that he had an immigration detainer. However, San Francisco s DA refused to
prosecute him over a decade old marijuana possession case ( Sanctuary Cities: How Kathryn Steinle s
death ), and Lopez Sanchez was released in April 2015. ICE had made a request to know when Lopez
Sanchez would be released from prison, so that he could be

Idina Mentzel Research Paper
Jeanelle Carmona
Intro to Theatre
Assignment 1
2/15/17
Three Actors chosen in this assignment that have relevant theatre experience is; Idina Mentzel, Jane
Lynch and Chris Farley. I would like to begin with my favorite of the three. Indina Kim Mentzel. Idina
is a native born New Yorker from Syosset. She was born in 1971. During her early years in high
school Idina showed a huge interest in singing and performing. She performed in school plays and
also took on jobs like singing in Bar Mitzvah s and weddings because she was such a talented singer.
After high school Idina wanted to study theatre and attended New York University s Tisch School of
The Arts where she graduated with a BFA in 1993. Three years after Idina graduated from New York
University s Tisch School of The Arts she was casted for the role of Maureen Johnson a lesbian
performance artist who dealt with having AIDS in the Broadway hit Rent. Idina received a Tony
nomination for this role. She continued her career in theatre starring in Broadway shows like The Wild
Party and in 2003 she was cast in Wicked and played the role of Elphaba who eventually became the
wicked witch of the west. Defying gravity was a hit from Wicked that she sang, because of this role,
Idina won a Tony for best actress in a musical. I chose Idina Mentzel because of her superior acting
and singing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then joined the cast of the Second City Theatre where he was then discovered by Lorne Michaels

history. I chose Chris Farley as my third favorite actor because he was undoubtedly one of my favorite
comedians. Growing up I would watch Saturday Night live and love to see him perform because he
was so funny. He was funny in the movies he starred in with Adam Sandler and although his life was
cut short due to addiction, his contribution to comedy has not been

The Benefits Of Legalizing Marijuana
The legality of cannabis varies from country to country. Possession of cannabis is illegal in most
countries and has been since the beginning of widespread cannabis prohibition in the late 1930s.
However, many countries have decriminalized the possession of small quantities of cannabis,
particularly in North America, South America and Europe. Furthermore, possession is legal or
effectively legal in the Netherlands, Uruguay and in the U.S. states of Colorado and Washington as the
federal government has indicated that it will not attempt to block enactment of legalization in those
states. In December 2013, Uruguay became the first country in the world to legalize the sale,
cultivation, and distribution of cannabis. There are many different types ... Show more content on

Cannabis is the third widely used drug in the United States following alcohol and tobacco even though
it is currently illegal. Because marijuana is so used so much and is illegal it plays a big role in the War
on Drugs. War on Drugs is a term commonly applied to a campaign of prohibition of drugs, military
aid, and military intervention, with the purpose being to define and reduce the illegal drug trade in the
United States (Giroux Pollock). The purpose is to set drug policies that are intended to decrease the
production, distribution, and consumption of illegal drugs. Because marijuana is illegal the price of the
final product increases to very high values because of the black market status, which together with the
powerful effects of drug addiction causes users to commit crimes in order to fund their addiction. If
weed became legal and regulated in the United States, the price would decrease leading to the
decrease in the illegal drug industry. This would also decrease the crimes committed by both drug
sellers and drug users. The government spends a lot of money on trying to stop citizens from using
marijuana while there are more important things the government should be spending their money on
such as social programs. Another pro of marijuana is that it has no physiological addiction while other
drugs that are legal such as tobacco have a higher physiological addiction rate than cocaine. Also if
marijuana becomes

The Importance Of The First And Second Language Acquisition
First and second language acquisition have been a topic of interest in linguistics for decades.
Researchers have been approaching these topics from many points of view, angles, and models (Gass,
2013). Regarding second language acquisition, and especially English as a second language, the most
researched topics include the effects of the Critical Period on second language learners, age of
acquisition, age of onset, and individual differences (i.e. L1, motivation, aptitude) (Gass, 2013). Even
though it is possible to find a wide variety of research on L2 acquisition, researchers are still debating
on which elements affect learners more. Furthermore, while there is plenty of research on gender
differences in the field of first language acquisition, there seems to be a lack of studies on said topic in
regards to learning a second language. For said reason this research paper will focus on gender and
first language influences on English as a second language acquisition, with the goal to comprehend
whether one, both or neither of those factors contributes or hinders L2 acquisition and why.
Furthermore, the current research paper is a follow up of Chiamenti (2016).
Literature Review
Second Language Acquisition As previously said, there has been plenty of research in the linguistics
field about second language acquisition. However, most studies focus on ESL writing or on Asian ESL

Character Analysis of Elisa Allen in The Chrysanthemums...
Many readers who analyze Steinbeck s short story, The Chrysanthemums , feel Elisa s flowers
represent her repressed sexuality, and her anger and resentment towards men. Some even push the
symbolism of the flowers, and Elisa s masculine actions, to suggest she is unable to establish a true
relationship between herself and another. Her masculine traits and her chrysanthemums are enough to
fulfill her entirely. This essay will discuss an opposing viewpoint. Instead, it will argue that Elisa s
chrysanthemums, and her masculine qualities are natural manifestations of a male dominated world.
Pertinent examples from The Chrysanthemums will be given in an attempt to illustrate that Elisa s
character qualities, and gardening skills, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he gave her any personal praise, as a woman of distinct qualities (one who was vital to the farm s
survival), he might be empowering her. Thus, he keeps his praise for her superficial skills, growing
flowers. In this way, Henry frustrates Elisa by not seeing into her true character. The flowers represent
Elisa trying to find some way of escaping from her frustrated and repressed husband, not from her
own sexual frustration.
Since Elisa is a woman with more than superficial qualities, in addition to being a good worker, she
seeks a way to fit into this world she feels is limited to her. She feels that it is limited because it is
being dominated and interpreted by men. Thus, she tries to seek out some understanding from a
stranger who is looking to find fix it work. Many readers see Elisa as being cold and frigid towards the
stranger at first appearance. Yet, this is quite possibly her intelligent reaction from being experienced
with the realities of life. This scene portrays a combat of wits in which she shows herself a person of
right feeling, one who doesn t let her charitable instincts run away with her (Beach, 312). Here we
have a strange man, and men have proven to Elisa they have a limited understanding of a woman s
gentler qualities. Her reaction shows intelligence, good instincts, and is revealing of the period in
which the story

Elizabeth Bishop s Icy Robe
The Bishop s Icy Robe
Part of a handful of women poets in the Modernist Era, Elizabeth Bishop wrote
around a hundred poems mostly containing dark themes which can be attributed to her
greatly compromised childhood. She has check mated the world of poetry and has
marked her name through her distinct style in poems such as A Death in Nova Scotia,
Sestina, and In the Waiting Room. The poem, Death in Nova Scotia, discusses a
young child coming to terms with her little cousins death and imagines what his afterlife
will be like. In Sestina, a grandmother and granddaughter shelter in a cold house while
the rain patters down on the roof. Clearly a greater, more omnipresent

They laugh at the clever almanac (18) with each other and this almanac
continuously pops up through out the poem. It almost symbolizes fate (that s why it s so
clever ), that looms over them constantly causing Bishop to live with her grandmother. So
in turn its safe to say that both speaker and Bishop are the same person because she is
living with the grandmother and holding back her true feelings. The speaker also
mentions that the house feels chilly (23) which can indicate that Bishop never felt
completely comfortable in her grandparents house and not her parents home (which no
longer existed). This poem parallels Bishops other poem Memories , and the reason for
that; the grand father kept telling the young child to be polite and almost submissive to
what he was saying because public appearance is important. So that thought transversely
relates to this because the speaker never cries (though she wants to). And lets the kettle s
small hard tears (14) (Hoff) Death in Nova Scotia , Sestina , and In the Waiting Room all have very
distinct topics but are linked by the theme of a larger force propelling the speaker

The Existence of Absence in Keats On Seeing the Elgin...
In his sonnet On Seeing the Elgin Marbles for the First Time, John Keats presents a series of various
forms of conflict and tension. Most prominent is the poet s sense of his own fleeting existence
juxtaposed with the eternity of the Greek marble sculptures and, perhaps, with the timelessness of art
in general. However, there is another, more subtle tension between what is in existence, and what is
not, an absence which paradoxically manifests as a form of existence in itself. The presence of this
conflict within the sonnet shows Keats s self coined Negative Capability, the ability to be in
uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason (Keats 863).
Furthermore, the Negative Capability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The image plays heavily both on what was, the eagle soaring through the skies, and what remains, a
gaping absence: an eagle less sky and a lacking eagle. Hence, a fundamental element of the image is
the existence of an absence. Two lines later, the speaker describes the cloudy winds (7) which he does
not have. The unusual description of the winds as cloudy implies a fraught and stormy sky, and
stimulates both visual and tactile senses; yet, these same cloudy winds are absent to the speaker. Thus,
here too is an instance of the existence of absence; the vivid and sensuous imagery creates something
substantial and tangible, and, as such, the negation of the image s existence, becomes all the more
palpable; its absence becomes distinct and almost like an entity in its own right. The oxymoron dim
conceived glories (9) produces a similar tension. On a superficial level, the oxymoron is interesting in
that it combines dim, connoting darkness, with glories, which often connotes radiance or light.
Furthermore, there is a tension between the dim and conceived, the latter implying creation and thus
existence, while the first paradoxically suggests something barely or non existent. Implying the
creation of that which does not exist embodies the tension between existence and the

Meditation Techniques Simple Zen Meditation
Using a simple Zen meditation, you will learn the art of stillness. Zen is all about stillness. Zen monks
have been known to simply sit still and let the knowledge come through.
Preparing For The Simple
Usually sitting is done in the full lotus position, however this posture is quite difficult to learn unless
you have practice for quite a while.
So if you are not comfortable using the lotus position, you can also use the chair position as the
posture mentioned in the zen meditation with the back straight and the body slightly brought forward.
First make sure that you are sitting comfortable yet errect on the chair (or in the lotus or semi lotus
position). Next, make sure that your mouth is closed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

see that your body is doing the counting automatically.
Keep counting up to 10 for about 20 minutes. Put the alarm in advance if you are not sure where the

Keep doing this simple zen meditation every day for 20 minutes by simply sitting in your comfortable
position, looking at one of your hands, starting to feel that side of your body from the feet upwards
and then starting to count.
Each alternate day start with the other side of your body. If today you have started with the left,
tomorrow start the meditation while focusing on the right hand and feeling your right side.
After one or two weeks, when you feel that you are counting automatically, without having to focus on
counting at all, stop counting. Now simply focus on your breathing in and out without counting.
Once you get used to this new technique as well, stop focusing on your breathing altogether. Simply
breath in and out, just the way you do it naturally, by your birthright. All you will do now is sit still in

Similarities Between Jeffersonian And Jacksonian Eras
The main themes I noticed in this week s material were pushing the powers of the presidency and
curbing those powers, manifest destiny, changes within the political parties, and the idea of fighting
for the little guy.
Some significant continuities I saw in the Jeffersonian and Jacksonian eras were the fundamentals of
the party in power. From Jefferson s presidency throughout Jackson s, sitting presidents typically
advocated for small government and for a strict construction of the constitution (Milkis and Nelson
131). Conversely, some significant changes I saw were to the political parties themselves, both the
Federalists and the Democratic Republicans saw many changes to their parties. And lastly, Jackson s
reinventing of the use of the Veto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Up until Jackson s presidency, a veto was only used to stop a piece of legislation if the President
viewed it as unconstitutional (Milkis and Nelson 137). However, Jackson believed that a president
should reject any bill he felt would injure the nation (Milkis and Nelson 138). This new interpretation
of the veto gave the President the power to reject legislation on personal opinion alone. Although
Congress was clearly disturbed with Jackson s veto, he maintained the people s faith and was reelected
as president the same year (Milkis and Nelson 138 139).
What I was most surprised by this week was Jackson s wording in much of the Indian Removal Act.
There were a couple places that seemed to just fall short of inciting violence. Despite knowing the
carnage that followed, I guess I expected the bill itself to be less odious. Jackson also announced his
legal inability to protect Indians from state authorities if they chose not to volunteer their lands, clearly
suggesting that any lingering natives in state territories were free to abuse (Brinkley and Dyer 94).
Obviously, the intent was nefarious, I was just shocked that there was no attempt to mask that

The Cell Body
1 The Prototypical Neuron The neuron, also known as the nerve cell, is distinguished by several
components: the soma, the axon, and the dendrites. The soma, or more commonly known as the cell
body, is the semi spherical central part of the neuron. In a typical neuron, it is about 20 um in diameter
and contains the same organelles that are found in all animal cells; a nucleolus, rough endoplasmic
reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and mitochondria. With all of its inner
components encased within the neuronal membrane. The neuronal membrane is an average of 5 nm

The axon begins by extending away from the soma, with the base region being known as the axon
hillock. The axon may then extend to various lengths (depending on the specific tissue/function that
cell pertains to) ranging from less than a millimeter to over a meter; as well as splitting into numerous
axon collaterals (axons that branch away from the original axon). As for the thickness of the axon, it
ranges from less than a millimeter to 25 mm in diameter (in humans) with the speed of electrical
impulses (nerve impulse) directly proportional to the thickness of the axon. At the end of the axon, is
the axon terminal or terminal bouton: which can be described as a swollen disk or button, where the
axon comes into contact with another neuron, or another cell (e.g. muscle cell) by which information
may be passed onto. This interface point is known as a synapse with the end of the axon known as the
presynaptic terminal; in this structure there are multiple synaptic vesicles (that average 50 nm in
diameter) with various chemical signals (neurotransmitters) used for synaptic transmission (the
process of information transfer). The membrane surrounding the synapse is heavily dense with
proteins and ion channels, in order to receive and traffic the

The Society Of The American Model Nina Davuluri Won The...
Privilege is perpetual. Over the course of history, one can always find instances of systematic
inequalities that oppress certain people at the benefit of others. According to Harper Brothers in
Chapter XVI: The Life of the Peasants, from Life on a Mediaeval Barony (1922), during the feudal
system, peasants were oppressed. Although peasants represented 96% of the French population, the
nobles and the clergy received their taxes and lived off the third estate. Today, in the United States,
people of color are victims of oppression. This can manifest through racial profiling, micro
aggressions, prejudice, or stereotyping, such as an enraged fan tweeting This is Miss America, not
Miss Terrorist after Indian American model Nina Davuluri won the beauty competition. Aside from
these instances, in what ways does discrimination exist in modern society? Before we begin, let s
define our terms. Oppression is historically formed institutionalized power. It allows certain privileged
people to assume a maintained dominant position over minorities, and has been built around what our
society considers acceptable and desirable. Additionally, discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial
treatment of different categories of people (Oxford). To understand today s discrimination, we can
look to the past. One of the most ingrained and implicit inequalities of history has been the oppression
of women by the patriarchy. The division of men and women may seem inevitable due to the

her life instead of being defined by men for the rest of her life. In the beginning it seems like Edna
feels compelled to abide by the societal standards. Even though she is described as not a mother
woman (Chopin 9). Edna grew up thinking that her life would fall into place after getting married,
after having children, after getting settled in life. After each milestone Edna found herself in the same
spot. No matter what she did, she did not find what she was looking for. After a point she discovers
that this life isn t the life she wants. She sets out to find a new life for herself. Through Chopin s focus
on two other female characters, Adele Ratignolle and Mademoiselle Reisz, Edna s options of life paths
are shown. These women are the examples that the people around Edna compare her with and from
whom they obtain their expectations for her. Edna, however, finds both role models lacking and begins
to see that the life of freedom and individuality that she wants goes against both

The Pros And Cons Of Munchy s Banning Teens
Should Munchy s Ban Teens? Munchy s just won t allow kids my age in unless we are adults.
Mr.Jones is the owner of munchy s which is the restaurant near my school. Since school started he s
been unhappy. He wishes more adults would come in. so he bans all teens. Honestly i believe that he
has every right to ban who ever he wants from his restaurant.
However profits are going down. During the school year minors tend to come the restaurant more than
adults. One customers said, during lunch hours i see more students come in and crowding everyone.
Most adults spend more money than students. Business workers complained, kids come in and take
forever to order but don t even spend that much money and they don t say excuse me they just ...

A man told me yesterday, almost everyday i have a headache from worker and just want some peace
and quiet . There are jobs where people get piles and piles of work. A woman told a group of teens,
can you guys lower your voices? I m trying to get some work done . Teens music have some words
that some adults really don t like. Mr. Jones promised, NO MUSIC! NO CELL PHONES! NO
STUDENTS! .
Nevertheless some people don t like being around children. Once a couple told me, teens are so
immature and rude . Parents love their kids to death but when i ask these two parents the told me,
They just want some alone time because they are constantly around their own children. Teachers are
around teen and kids 24/7. They never want to come in during their break. Mrs. Blake a math teacher
told me, i love teaching but when its my break the last ting i want to be around is teens .
Some argue that Mr. Jone doesn t have the right to ban teens. Teen need a place to eat too. Yeah they
can get loud and rude, but they may be able to bring in business. Teens complain about adults drinking
too much or saying bad things to them. Nobody should be left out, but there s always other places to
eat. Some adults should take that into

Studying Diet, Immunization, and Infection of Our Ancestors
The Ted X Talk, Tracking ancient diseases using...plaque, with Christina Warinner as the speaker
focused on explaining one innovative way to move past the challenges associated with studying diet,
infection and immunity of our ancestors. Warinner is an archaeological geneticist at the Center for
Evolutionary Medicine at the University of Zurich. She studies how humans co evolved with their
environment, diets and disease by looking at the skeletal and mummified remains of ancient humans.
In her Ted X Talk given in Long Beach, California in March 2012 she provided explanations for the
difficulties researchers are faced with, the description of the new implementation of Warinner and her
team and the results that were found, Warinner shares with others how the evolutionary history of
health and human disease is being investigated.
To properly study the pathogens of the past, Warinner explained the different ways this is possible.
The first is by extracting human DNA from ancient bones to recreate the human genome. With this
process the goal is to highlight changes that result from risk factors, adaptations and inherited
diseases. She then stated, The most important health challenges today are not caused by simple
mutations in our genome, but rather result from a complex and dynamic interplay between genetic
variation, diet, microbes and parasites and our immune response (Warinner). Because we live in a
completely different environment today than the environment where our bodies

Political Party Issues
Political Party Issues In political campaigns, the viewpoints of the individual candidates are often
reflective of the positions of their political parties. In the upcoming presidential election, there are
issues which have the power to divide the nation. One of the most divisive issues at present is the
question of gay marriage and whether or not the federal government should weigh in on what has thus
far been a states rights issue. Both on the state and national levels, the perspective of the people in the
various political jurisdictions will determine the way in which they vote. If a party agrees with the
population s view on an issue, the people will be more likely to vote with that party. The two major
parties, the Republicans and Democrats, have officially been against gay marriage although a few
have differed from the party s position. Less is known where some of the third parties, such as the
Green Party, Libertarian Party, and Constitution Party, stand on the issue. I support same sex marriage
because I see no valid arguments against it. The majority of arguments against gay marriage are based
on religious perspective. In the United States, the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees
separation of church and state. Therefore, religion should not have a place in either the formulation or
implementation of legislation, including questions of who has the right to get married in this country.
The Green Party was founded with the intention of making

bracelet four times. It is believed that this talismanic object and 32 other bracelets like this one, comes
from Upper Egypt and began to be made during the Mamlūk period. This is the only amulet which

With the ulumas desire to purify Islam from the occult, and contemplating that talisman would lead to
idolatry, surely then it would be inaccurate to conclusively claim that the occult science deteriorated
during the Mamlūk period as has been the conventional historical paradigm. Michael Dols, through an
analysis of numerous sources, has contended that the use of the occult science in Medieval Islam was
more prevalent than previously acknowledged in the scholastic field. Al Saleh corroborates with Dols,
by arguing that the continuous conquests in the name of Islam engendered an increase in Islamic
magical beliefs, because cultural encounter and exchange were inevitable. Similarly, to the refutation
of astrology, the discontentment shown towards talisman by the traditionalist implies that the practice
and belief of talisman had reached levels of apprehension for the traditionalist. Livingston
acknowledges this by highlighting that in the 14th century, a popular belief in the occult science had
been seen by some to endanger the religious foundation of Islamic Mamlūk. Furthermore, some
historians suggest that there was a belief among the amīrs in the talismanic influences of ancient
carved statues, conceivably of pharaonic origins, within the Mamlūk period. Indeed, then the use of
the talisman and the occult was part of the mainstream medieval Mamlūk culture. It may have not
been acknowledged previously, as the number of published textual sources concerning the occult
science during Mamlūk period is difficult to come across. Moreover, deliberating the visual and
material evidence discussed in this chapter, we come see that the occult manifested in many forms,
ranging from paper scrolls to jewellery. Remarkably, textual occultist treatises were far

Franz Beethoven Research Papers
Franz Schubert
Franz Schubert, one of my favorite classical composers, was born on 31 January 1797 in Vienna,
Austria, which is a well known city for classic music. And he has 14 brothers and sisters, one of them
was illegitimate, born in 1783 and nine of them were died in infancy. His father, Franz Theodor
Schubert was a well known teacher, and his school in Lichtental (ninth district in Vienna) had many
students in attendance. Though he wasn t even formally get his music trained, he passed on certain
musical gift to his son. When he was six year old, he began to given basic lesson from his father, and a
year later he enrolled to his father s school. His formal musical training started around the same time.
His father taught him very basic violin technique, and his brother Ignaz taught him piano technique.

Viena. In 1888, both his and Beethoven s graves moved to the Zentralfriedhof. My favorite song of his

beautiful songs that I have ever heard. I will still enjoy it once a while. It isn t a complicated song but

Stricter Gun Laws
In the past few years, mass shootings have been occurring more frequently. From that movie theatre a
few years back, to the church shooting earlier this year, mass shootings are starting to become a little
bit too common. One would think that this fact would lead to better gun ownership laws, but it has not
affected them all that much. Too many Americans have rioted when the mere whisper of stricter laws
escapes the mouths of any of their fellow people. Stricter laws on the ownership and usage of firearms
should be considered, for it would reduce mass shootings, less violent crimes would be committed,
and more lives would be saved from the potential danger.

Nuclear Fusion Vs Nuclear Radiation
Each atom of a particle element the majority of the time look and behave the same as any other atom
of the same element. When comparing two atoms of Carbon for example, they both contain the same
number of protons and electrons. In this case the both contain 6 protons. The equal number of protons
and neutrons in this atom creates stability in its nucleus. The two atoms of carbon also have the same
mass, approximately 12 amu, but like all things in nature there are exceptions. A different atom of
carbon can contain 8 neutrons in its nucleus for every 6 protons. When an atom of an element contains
more or less neutrons to protons an unstable environment is now created in the atom which is called a
radioactive isotope. The loss of a neutron in the nucleus of an atom emits energy which can also be
referred to as radiation. What makes these radioactive isotopes so different between stable atoms is the
energy that is released through the loss of the extra neutron in the atom in an attempt to stabilize. This
energy that is released in this everyday phenomenon has become quiet helpful as we find uses for it in
our everyday lives. Radiation has quickly become on the most influential aspects of modern medicine.

Nuclear fusion occurs in the nucleuses of two elements that have somewhat light masses. The
nucleuses of these two elements are brought together at extremely high speeds to ultimately create the
new nucleus of a new element. Very few radioactive particles are created through this process, it also
mostly takes place in the stars. Where as in nuclear fission, the nucleus of a heavy atom is split into
two smaller nuclei. During this process the loss of neutrons releases energy in the form of gamma
rays. This process rarely occurs in nature due to the force require to split an

Desalination Lab Report
Aim
The aim of this experiment is to test the effect of selected variables on the osmotic pressure during
desalination. The variables being researched include: the size of the cation, different salinities and the
solubility of a number of salts normally found in seawater.
Background Information
I have for a number of years been interested in environmental issues such as water consumption and
the carbon footprint that characterizes our modern societies. In a previous experiment I created an
organic geyser, designed to use compost to provide a source of energy to heat water. In the present
experiment, I will be exploring the potential for utilizing desalination to increase the quantity of
potable water for human consumption.

This strength thus makes it more durable than the current polymer membranes that are in use. Its
thinness results in less resistance during the process of pushing solvent molecules across the
semipermeable membrane. Consequently, less pressure needs to be generated, cutting the energy costs
of desalination by between 15 46% . In order for the graphene to work as a semipermeable membrane,
it must contain pores, created to accommodate the exact size of a solvent particle but small enough to
prevent the solute from flowing through. For desalination, the ideal size of the pores is one nanometer
. In order to create the pores of an adequate size, there are three possible methods : helium ion
bombardment, chemical etching and self assembling systems. The use of graphene for desalination is
still being developed. At present the main barrier to progress is creating graphene semipermeable
membranes with pores of the right size on a large enough

Sad Story
Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way,
but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do anything about it. Our civilization is
decadent and our language so the argument runs must inevitably share in the general collapse. It
follows that any struggle against the abuse of language is a sentimental archaism, like preferring
candles to electric light or hansom cabs to aeroplanes. Underneath this lies the half conscious belief
that language is a natural growth and not an instrument which we shape for our own purposes. Now, it
is clear that the decline of a language must ultimately have political and economic causes: it is not due

  • 2. Persuasive Essay About Cheating In School Cheating in school is a form of self deception. We go to school to learn. We cheat ourselves when we coast on the efforts and scholarship of someone else James E. Faust. Being rob of education is not what school is for, but to learn to be ready for the future. In the television show Freak and Geeks, by Paul Feig, the protagonist, Lindsay gets caught up in a scandal of cheating when trying to help a classmate. Cheating can be spotted from a mile away and happens more frequently than one would suspect. Lindsay being a straight A student decides to tutor Daniel for his math test, so he doesn t repeat a year. Little did she know, tutoring him was more difficult than she expected. Daniel ends up stealing the test for Lindsay to complete and tells her I m not gonna be hitting you up every time I have a math test (Feig). Therefore, Lindsay tries to tell Daniel that if he actually tries he could do well on the test, but later on she ends up giving in to the pressure and helps Daniel cheat on the test. In comparison, I was cheated off of and it almost cost me my grade. Sharing answers for homework was considered cheating, but students thought of it as nothing. However, when someone takes credit for your work, you feel ripped off your hard work. At the time I didn t realize the person cheated off of me until the teacher pulls me out and the student in the hallway to talk about why are answers were similar. My heart sank not knowing how the situation would turn out, but I knew I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Safety For Illegal Aliens Safety for Illegal Aliens From January to August 2014 over 200 sanctuary cities released some 8,145 illegal aliens despite the fact that they were being held on criminal charges. Of those over 8,000 released, 1,800 of them were charged with crimes such as rape and child sex abuse ( Sanctuary City Crime Wave in 43 States). Although there is no clear definition of sanctuary city each of these cities generally have laws that limit how far government employees and law enforcement officials are allowed to go to aid the federal government on immigration matters. Sanctuary cities should be outlawed because they go against federal law, the release of criminals are endangering the public, and negative effects it has on the economy. Sanctuary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So apparently in reality, funding cuts won t do much to stop these cities from resisting ICE. Something needs to be done in order to prevent these cities and their politicians from resisting the federal law and ICE. Not only are these cities resisting federal law, they are also endangering their own citizens who live there as well. On July 1, 2015 in San Francisco, CA, a well known sanctuary city, Kathryn Steinle (32), was shot and killed while walking with her father by an undocumented illegal alien Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez. Before his arrest after killing Steinle, Lopez Sanchez had been convicted of seven felonies and been deported five times ( Sanctuary Cities: How Kathryn Steinle s death ). Lopez Sanchez had been in prison following his fifth deportation for re entering the country, but was transferred from Victorville, CA to San Francisco because of an outstanding drug related charge despite the fact that he had an immigration detainer. However, San Francisco s DA refused to prosecute him over a decade old marijuana possession case ( Sanctuary Cities: How Kathryn Steinle s death ), and Lopez Sanchez was released in April 2015. She performed in school plays and also took on jobs like singing in Bar Mitzvah s and weddings because she was such a talented singer. After high school Idina wanted to study theatre and attended New York University s Tisch School of The Arts where she graduated with a BFA in 1993. • 7. The Benefits Of Legalizing Marijuana The legality of cannabis varies from country to country. Possession of cannabis is illegal in most countries and has been since the beginning of widespread cannabis prohibition in the late 1930s. However, many countries have decriminalized the possession of small quantities of cannabis, particularly in North America, South America and Europe. Furthermore, possession is legal or effectively legal in the Netherlands, Uruguay and in the U.S. states of Colorado and Washington as the federal government has indicated that it will not attempt to block enactment of legalization in those states. In December 2013, Uruguay became the first country in the world to legalize the sale, cultivation, and distribution of cannabis. There are many different types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cannabis is the third widely used drug in the United States following alcohol and tobacco even though it is currently illegal. Because marijuana is so used so much and is illegal it plays a big role in the War on Drugs. War on Drugs is a term commonly applied to a campaign of prohibition of drugs, military aid, and military intervention, with the purpose being to define and reduce the illegal drug trade in the United States (Giroux Pollock). The purpose is to set drug policies that are intended to decrease the production, distribution, and consumption of illegal drugs. Because marijuana is illegal the price of the final product increases to very high values because of the black market status, which together with the powerful effects of drug addiction causes users to commit crimes in order to fund their addiction. If weed became legal and regulated in the United States, the price would decrease leading to the decrease in the illegal drug industry. This would also decrease the crimes committed by both drug sellers and drug users. The government spends a lot of money on trying to stop citizens from using marijuana while there are more important things the government should be spending their money on such as social programs. Another pro of marijuana is that it has no physiological addiction while other drugs that are legal such as tobacco have a higher physiological addiction rate than cocaine. • 8. The Importance Of The First And Second Language Acquisition First and second language acquisition have been a topic of interest in linguistics for decades. Researchers have been approaching these topics from many points of view, angles, and models (Gass, 2013). Regarding second language acquisition, and especially English as a second language, the most researched topics include the effects of the Critical Period on second language learners, age of acquisition, age of onset, and individual differences (i.e. L1, motivation, aptitude) (Gass, 2013). Even though it is possible to find a wide variety of research on L2 acquisition, researchers are still debating on which elements affect learners more. Furthermore, while there is plenty of research on gender differences in the field of first language acquisition, there seems to be a lack of studies on said topic in regards to learning a second language. For said reason this research paper will focus on gender and first language influences on English as a second language acquisition, with the goal to comprehend whether one, both or neither of those factors contributes or hinders L2 acquisition and why. Furthermore, the current research paper is a follow up of Chiamenti (2016). Literature Review Second Language Acquisition As previously said, there has been plenty of research in the linguistics field about second language acquisition. However, most studies focus on ESL writing or on Asian ESL students abilties. As far as my knowledge goes, there seems to be a lack of research about European ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Character Analysis of Elisa Allen in The Chrysanthemums... Many readers who analyze Steinbeck s short story, The Chrysanthemums , feel Elisa s flowers represent her repressed sexuality, and her anger and resentment towards men. Some even push the symbolism of the flowers, and Elisa s masculine actions, to suggest she is unable to establish a true relationship between herself and another. Her masculine traits and her chrysanthemums are enough to fulfill her entirely. This essay will discuss an opposing viewpoint. Instead, it will argue that Elisa s chrysanthemums, and her masculine qualities are natural manifestations of a male dominated world. Pertinent examples from The Chrysanthemums will be given in an attempt to illustrate that Elisa s character qualities, and gardening skills, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he gave her any personal praise, as a woman of distinct qualities (one who was vital to the farm s survival), he might be empowering her. Thus, he keeps his praise for her superficial skills, growing flowers. In this way, Henry frustrates Elisa by not seeing into her true character. The flowers represent Elisa trying to find some way of escaping from her frustrated and repressed husband, not from her own sexual frustration. Since Elisa is a woman with more than superficial qualities, in addition to being a good worker, she seeks a way to fit into this world she feels is limited to her. She feels that it is limited because it is being dominated and interpreted by men. Thus, she tries to seek out some understanding from a stranger who is looking to find fix it work. Many readers see Elisa as being cold and frigid towards the stranger at first appearance. Yet, this is quite possibly her intelligent reaction from being experienced with the realities of life. This scene portrays a combat of wits in which she shows herself a person of right feeling, one who doesn t let her charitable instincts run away with her (Beach, 312). Here we have a strange man, and men have proven to Elisa they have a limited understanding of a woman s gentler qualities. Her reaction shows intelligence, good instincts, and is revealing of the period in which the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elizabeth Bishop s Icy Robe The Bishop s Icy Robe Part of a handful of women poets in the Modernist Era, Elizabeth Bishop wrote around a hundred poems mostly containing dark themes which can be attributed to her greatly compromised childhood. She has check mated the world of poetry and has marked her name through her distinct style in poems such as A Death in Nova Scotia, Sestina, and In the Waiting Room. The poem, Death in Nova Scotia, discusses a young child coming to terms with her little cousins death and imagines what his afterlife will be like. In Sestina, a grandmother and granddaughter shelter in a cold house while the rain patters down on the roof. Clearly a greater, more omnipresent power lurks over the two of ... It almost symbolizes fate (that s why it s so clever ), that looms over them constantly causing Bishop to live with her grandmother. So in turn its safe to say that both speaker and Bishop are the same person because she is living with the grandmother and holding back her true feelings. The speaker also mentions that the house feels chilly (23) which can indicate that Bishop never felt completely comfortable in her grandparents house and not her parents home (which no longer existed). • 13. The Existence of Absence in Keats On Seeing the Elgin... In his sonnet On Seeing the Elgin Marbles for the First Time, John Keats presents a series of various forms of conflict and tension. Most prominent is the poet s sense of his own fleeting existence juxtaposed with the eternity of the Greek marble sculptures and, perhaps, with the timelessness of art in general. However, there is another, more subtle tension between what is in existence, and what is not, an absence which paradoxically manifests as a form of existence in itself. The presence of this conflict within the sonnet shows Keats s self coined Negative Capability, the ability to be in uncertainties, mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason (Keats 863). Furthermore, the Negative Capability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The image plays heavily both on what was, the eagle soaring through the skies, and what remains, a gaping absence: an eagle less sky and a lacking eagle. Hence, a fundamental element of the image is the existence of an absence. Two lines later, the speaker describes the cloudy winds (7) which he does not have. The unusual description of the winds as cloudy implies a fraught and stormy sky, and stimulates both visual and tactile senses; yet, these same cloudy winds are absent to the speaker. Thus, here too is an instance of the existence of absence; the vivid and sensuous imagery creates something substantial and tangible, and, as such, the negation of the image s existence, becomes all the more palpable; its absence becomes distinct and almost like an entity in its own right. The oxymoron dim conceived glories (9) produces a similar tension. On a superficial level, the oxymoron is interesting in that it combines dim, connoting darkness, with glories, which often connotes radiance or light. Furthermore, there is a tension between the dim and conceived, the latter implying creation and thus existence, while the first paradoxically suggests something barely or non existent. Implying the creation of that which does not exist embodies the tension between existence and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between Jeffersonian And Jacksonian Eras The main themes I noticed in this week s material were pushing the powers of the presidency and curbing those powers, manifest destiny, changes within the political parties, and the idea of fighting for the little guy. Some significant continuities I saw in the Jeffersonian and Jacksonian eras were the fundamentals of the party in power. From Jefferson s presidency throughout Jackson s, sitting presidents typically advocated for small government and for a strict construction of the constitution (Milkis and Nelson 131). Conversely, some significant changes I saw were to the political parties themselves, both the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans saw many changes to their parties. Up until Jackson s presidency, a veto was only used to stop a piece of legislation if the President viewed it as unconstitutional (Milkis and Nelson 137). However, Jackson believed that a president should reject any bill he felt would injure the nation (Milkis and Nelson 138). This new interpretation of the veto gave the President the power to reject legislation on personal opinion alone. Although Congress was clearly disturbed with Jackson s veto, he maintained the people s faith and was reelected as president the same year (Milkis and Nelson 138 139). What I was most surprised by this week was Jackson s wording in much of the Indian Removal Act. There were a couple places that seemed to just fall short of inciting violence. Despite knowing the carnage that followed, I guess I expected the bill itself to be less odious. Jackson also announced his legal inability to protect Indians from state authorities if they chose not to volunteer their lands, clearly suggesting that any lingering natives in state territories were free to abuse (Brinkley and Dyer 94). • 18. The Society Of The American Model Nina Davuluri Won The... Privilege is perpetual. Over the course of history, one can always find instances of systematic inequalities that oppress certain people at the benefit of others. According to Harper Brothers in Chapter XVI: The Life of the Peasants, from Life on a Mediaeval Barony (1922), during the feudal system, peasants were oppressed. Although peasants represented 96% of the French population, the nobles and the clergy received their taxes and lived off the third estate. Today, in the United States, people of color are victims of oppression. This can manifest through racial profiling, micro aggressions, prejudice, or stereotyping, such as an enraged fan tweeting This is Miss America, not Miss Terrorist after Indian American model Nina Davuluri won the beauty competition. Aside from these instances, in what ways does discrimination exist in modern society? Before we begin, let s define our terms. Oppression is historically formed institutionalized power. It allows certain privileged people to assume a maintained dominant position over minorities, and has been built around what our society considers acceptable and desirable. Additionally, discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people (Oxford). To understand today s discrimination, we can look to the past. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the ulumas desire to purify Islam from the occult, and contemplating that talisman would lead to idolatry, surely then it would be inaccurate to conclusively claim that the occult science deteriorated during the Mamlūk period as has been the conventional historical paradigm. Michael Dols, through an analysis of numerous sources, has contended that the use of the occult science in Medieval Islam was more prevalent than previously acknowledged in the scholastic field. Al Saleh corroborates with Dols, by arguing that the continuous conquests in the name of Islam engendered an increase in Islamic magical beliefs, because cultural encounter and exchange were inevitable. Similarly, to the refutation of astrology, the discontentment shown towards talisman by the traditionalist implies that the practice and belief of talisman had reached levels of apprehension for the traditionalist. Livingston acknowledges this by highlighting that in the 14th century, a popular belief in the occult science had been seen by some to endanger the religious foundation of Islamic Mamlūk. Furthermore, some historians suggest that there was a belief among the amīrs in the talismanic influences of ancient carved statues, conceivably of pharaonic origins, within the Mamlūk period. Indeed, then the use of the talisman and the occult was part of the mainstream medieval Mamlūk culture. It may have not been acknowledged previously, as the number of published textual sources concerning the occult science during Mamlūk period is difficult to come across. • 33. Nuclear Fusion Vs Nuclear Radiation Each atom of a particle element the majority of the time look and behave the same as any other atom of the same element. When comparing two atoms of Carbon for example, they both contain the same number of protons and electrons. In this case the both contain 6 protons. The equal number of protons and neutrons in this atom creates stability in its nucleus. The two atoms of carbon also have the same mass, approximately 12 amu, but like all things in nature there are exceptions. A different atom of carbon can contain 8 neutrons in its nucleus for every 6 protons. When an atom of an element contains more or less neutrons to protons an unstable environment is now created in the atom which is called a radioactive isotope. The loss of a neutron in the nucleus of an atom emits energy which can also be referred to as radiation. What makes these radioactive isotopes so different between stable atoms is the energy that is released through the loss of the extra neutron in the atom in an attempt to stabilize. This energy that is released in this everyday phenomenon has become quiet helpful as we find uses for it in our everyday lives. Radiation has quickly become on the most influential aspects of modern medicine. One aspect of medicine that has been greatly affected by the discovery and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nuclear fusion occurs in the nucleuses of two elements that have somewhat light masses. The nucleuses of these two elements are brought together at extremely high speeds to ultimately create the new nucleus of a new element. Very few radioactive particles are created through this process, it also mostly takes place in the stars. Where as in nuclear fission, the nucleus of a heavy atom is split into two smaller nuclei. During this process the loss of neutrons releases energy in the form of gamma rays. This process rarely occurs in nature due to the force require to split an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Desalination Lab Report Aim The aim of this experiment is to test the effect of selected variables on the osmotic pressure during desalination. The variables being researched include: the size of the cation, different salinities and the solubility of a number of salts normally found in seawater. Background Information I have for a number of years been interested in environmental issues such as water consumption and the carbon footprint that characterizes our modern societies. In a previous experiment I created an organic geyser, designed to use compost to provide a source of energy to heat water. In the present experiment, I will be exploring the potential for utilizing desalination to increase the quantity of potable water for human consumption. Water is a ... Its thinness results in less resistance during the process of pushing solvent molecules across the semipermeable membrane. Consequently, less pressure needs to be generated, cutting the energy costs of desalination by between 15 46% . In order for the graphene to work as a semipermeable membrane, it must contain pores, created to accommodate the exact size of a solvent particle but small enough to prevent the solute from flowing through. For desalination, the ideal size of the pores is one nanometer . In order to create the pores of an adequate size, there are three possible methods : helium ion bombardment, chemical etching and self assembling systems. The use of graphene for desalination is still being developed. At present the main barrier to progress is creating graphene semipermeable membranes with pores of the right size on a large enough ... These are the areas of which a child develops at as they grow into young adults. Physical Development The two main areas of physical development are gross fine motor skills. Gross motor skills use the larger muscles in the body like arms legs. Rolling over, crawling, walking, running and jumping are all gross motor skills. Fine motor skills use the smaller muscles in the body, like fingers toes. Writing, painting, pointing, grasping and reaching are examples of fine motor skills. Fine motor skills alsto eye coordination. Activities to promote Physical Development * Play Musical Statues. This activity helps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Activities to promote Emotional Development * Imaginative Play. By dressing up and acting out real life experiences children can begin to understand someone else s perspective. Giving the children an opportunity to be someone else and anything they want is emotionally satisfying and helps to build their confidence and self esteem. * Identifying emotions Take pictures of people who look happy, sad, angry and scared. Show the children these pictures and ask them which person in which picture is feeling what. This will give the children chance to voice their opinion and also recognise facial expressions. Social Development Social development is the way a child interacts with others, builds and maintains relationships. This is the stage of development where children become aware of working as a team and understand the concept of sharing. Activities to promote Social Development * Human Knot For this activity all the children stand in a circle facing each other. Each child must hold the hand of the people on their left and right hand side. The children must then work together in order to untangle the circle without releasing each other s hands. This activity encourages the children to cooperate as a team and build trust amongst their peers. * Puzzles Give two groups of children to different set of puzzles and tell them to put it together. • 36. Sad Story Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do anything about it. Our civilization is decadent and our language so the argument runs must inevitably share in the general collapse. It follows that any struggle against the abuse of language is a sentimental archaism, like preferring candles to electric light or hansom cabs to aeroplanes. Underneath this lies the half conscious belief that language is a natural growth and not an instrument which we shape for our own purposes. Now, it is clear that the decline of a language must ultimately have political and economic causes: it is not due simply to the bad influence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Communist pamphlet 5. If a new spirit is to be infused into this old country, there is one thorny and contentious reform which must be tackled, and that is the humanization and galvanization of the B.B.C. Timidity here will bespeak canker and atrophy of the soul. The heart of Britain may be sound and of strong beat, for instance, but the British lion s roar at present is like that of Bottom in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream as gentle as any sucking dove. A virile new Britain cannot continue indefinitely to be traduced in the eyes or rather ears, of the world by the effete languors of Langham Place, brazenly masquerading as standard English . When the Voice of Britain is heard at nine o clock, better far and infinitely less ludicrous to hear aitches honestly dropped than the present priggish, inflated, inhibited, school ma amish arch braying of blameless bashful mewing maidens! Letter in Tribune Each of these passages has faults of its own, but, quite apart from avoidable ugliness, two qualities are common to all of them. The first is staleness of imagery; the other is lack of precision. The writer either has a meaning and cannot express it, or he inadvertently says something else, or he is almost indifferent as to whether his words mean anything or not. This mixture of vagueness and sheer incompetence is the most marked characteristic of modern English prose, and especially of any kind of political writing. As soon as certain topics ...
