need. Everybody should have the right to adopt these children and give them better lives and help

In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, Meursault s murder of the Arab helps to illuminate
the meaning of the work as a whole. The Stranger tells the story of Meursault, a man who
passively lives his life until he kills a man and is then put on trial and sentenced to death. The
murder of the Arab is the climax of the noveland signals a shift in Meursault s thought and

Beginning with the death of the Arab, Meursault starts to become aware of his choices and
actions. Although he had no clear reason to kill the Arab, in the death scene, Meursault realizes
that he can either shoot or not shoot, and he chooses the former. This is the first time in the
novel Meursault makes a conscious choice. In Part 1 of the novel, Meursault is simply
skimming the surface of his life with no real emotions or strong feelings. He lives in a daily
routine until the murder of the Arab drastically awakes him. After the death scene, Meursault
becomes more aware of the importance of his choices and how to give his life meaning. He begins
to reminisce over memories that give his life meaning and evaluates his relationship with his
mother, Marie, and religion. To Meursault, the sound of the bullet leaving the gun marks a new

Deadly Force
As the Court said in the case of Tennessee v. Garner, police use of deadly force to apprehend a
fleeing felon from the scene of a residential burglary does not exceed the constitutional limits
(Brody Acker, 2010).
I believe that limiting the power of the police to use deadly force makes the officers job more
difficult. Limiting the power makes the officers job more dangerous from the point of the suspect
knowing the officer is unable to respond correctly to a situation. If an officer is unable to use the
force necessary for certain situations, it not only endangers the officer s life but the lives of
citizens around them. The officer s ability to assist the public may also be limited. Why would the
public want to call the police who will be unable to use deadly force to assist them?
Most law abiding citizens in my area have a weapon in their home and if the officer is limited as
to the use of deadly force, the law abiding citizen will then take matters in their own hands. The

In 2015, the Washington Post reported 987 fatal shootings by on duty officers in their database
(Lowery, 2016). These high numbers along with the role of media, have caused officers to be
scrutinized more than ever. Many of the largest police departments were asked to implement
new training and implement new policies that would decrease the number of fatal shootings
(Lowery, 2016). The reform goals were to decrease the number of shootings that were not a
crime, but sparked an outrage in communities (Lowery, 2016). If you look at these goals of
reform, it does make sense to try to find ways to decrease deadly shootings that are not necessary.

death an intelligible or defensible theory? in the affirmative, requires postulating that:
1) The definition of human includes the characteristic of a unique soul or spirit associated with
each physical human body and,
2) Miracles, events unexplained by men s physical and natural laws, can occur and,
3) A substance dualist philosophy that the body including the brain is physical matter but the mind
containing our knowledge, memories, and thoughts is not physical matter and unique to each
individual.
Thus it is possible that the soul/spirit, absent the physical matter of the body, could retain its
spiritual existence via a miracle and absent the physical body, after death.
Let us examine each of these premises. The human spirit is defined as 1: the immaterial essence,
animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life, 2: a supernatural being or essence, soul
(Merriam Webster). Allowing the belief that human beings have unique spirits that are immaterial,
survival of physical (material) death is both defensible and intelligible. The human spirit encompass
thoughts, emotions, memories, etc. all immaterial entities which govern the way human beings
exist, in this life and perhaps the afterlife.

Understanding and upholding respect for different cultures should be a social norm. Fascinatingly,
the amount of various cultures around the world is humbling with no two being alike. Although,
Chinese culture has evolved through many, many years and some ancient traditions still uphold.
Face, guanxi, which broadly speaking, means connections and many other cultural normalities are
constantly changing in China, yet there is basic threshold of cultural competency that is still
important to acquire before any amount of business can be done there. Researching these specific
cultural characteristics helped me understand several key cultural concepts that must be understood
in order for useful personal and business dealings. Having a basic knowledge of Chinese history,
political, economic and social challenges the country faces is necessary background knowledge
before evening entering the country. Knowing the Chinese etiquette and understanding our cultural
differences from Western culturein comparison to the Chinese culture can only help enhance

There are a wide variety of differences between the Chinese and Western cultures forms of art and
literature. The differences in art between western and Chinese culture grow with the addition of the
