Vasculitis Essay
By Jonas Wilson, Ing. Med.
Vasculitis affecting large arteries
A large vessel essentially refers to the aorta and its largest branches that are directed to the head and
neck and the extremities. The hallmark in terms of pathology with large vessel vasculitides is that
chronic inflammatory lesions are primarily found inside of the walls of vessels and not on the outside.
This is a key distinction that can be used in order to separate large vessel from small vessel
pathologies, which present with inflammation on the outside of the vessel wall in addition to being
found within. The two main large artery vasculitides that will be discussed below are giant cell
arteritis (GCA) and Takayasu disease.
Giant cell arteritis
Also known as temporal arteritis or Horton s arteritis, giant cell arteritis is a fairly common systemic
vasculitide with a higher prevalence in women and peak incidence almost exclusively after the fifth
decade of life. GCA typically has a gradual onset, but an abrupt one is not unheard of. Most of its
clinical manifestations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other arteries such as the postauricular, facial and occipital may also be enlarged, with fairly frequent
claudication (pain induced by movement due to vessel obstruction) of the jaw. Due to the intense
vessel occlusion associated with GCA and the resulting complication of blindness in up to 20% of
patients, the condition is considered a medical emergency. Ocular manifestations also indicate
increased risk for central nervous system complications such as ischemic stroke. Steroid therapy with
calcium and vitamin D supplements is the cornerstone of treatment for GCA. Moreover, in terms of
prognosis, there is no associated increase in mortality of patients that are treated with timely diagnosis

Essay Westward Expansion
Westward Expansion
During the 1800 s, American citizens packed up and headed West to the new unknown land of the
United States of America. Western expansion was a great part of the growth of the
United States because it gave Americans new land to settle, expanded its economy, and made the
United States a world power. The desire to expand was described by newspaper editor John
O Sullivan who wrote, it is America s Manifest Destiny to overspread and to possess the whole of the
continent .
First of all, westward expansion benefited the United States by increasing the area of settled property.
This property included many different types of land. Farmers were able to buy fertile farmland
cheaply in states like Iowa, Nebraska, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tens of thousands of people moved, creating future cities like San Francisco and Denver. The
completion of the transcontinental railroad connected the Atlantic and Pacific coasts allowing for the
shipping of goods across the country. Western farm products like wheat, corn, beef, and poultry were
shipped east to feed the growing number of workers in factories in cities like Philadelphia,
Boston, and New York. The increase in land, natural resources, and industry gave the United
States a larger role in the world.
Finally, westward expansion secured the United States by pushing foreign powers off of the continent.
By controlling both coasts, the country was protected by the oceans, therefore separating it from the
other continents. Through the Monroe Doctrine, the United States eliminated European colonization in
the Western hemisphere and became its most powerful nation. Through development of industry, the
United States was able to grow as a manufacturing and trading power. As industry grew immigrants
poured into the land of opportunity seeking what became known around the world as the American
dream .
In conclusion, westward expansion was responsible for the increasing variety of geography,
population, and industry which shaped the changing United States during the 19th century. These
changes led to the opportunity for Americans to own land. The new settlements led to a growing
network of communication, transportation, and trade. The

Cheever The Swimmer
In John Cheever s short story The Swimmer , Neddy Merrill decides to take a swim through the
country. David Hockney, on the other hand, finalised his painting Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two
Figures) in 1972, only eight years after the first publication of The Swimmer in Cheever s book
Collected Stories and Other Writings. On the left hand side of the canvas, a breast stroking swimmer is
visible in a pool. The pool water is painted in two colours of blue, one slightly darker than the other.
Next to the pool, on the right hand side, Peter Schlesinger, allegedly, is standing in a red and beige
suit. He is looking down at the swimmer in the pool and additionally leans forward to allow himself a
better view. In the middle distance vegetation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

according to photographs taken at Kensington Gardens and therefore represents the figure next to the

neighbours look down on Merrill in a disregarding manner, Schlesinger looks down at the artist in the
pool to view him better, but one could argue that Schlesinger also looks down at the swimmer in a
similar disrespecting manner. The disapproval of Shirley Adams contributes to the overall negative

Similarities Between Gibson And Alfred Bester
Alfred Bester and William Gibson are both prominent authors in the science fiction genre. Elements
such as science and technology advancements as seen through the space lens, megacorporations verses
a dystopian gritty underworld, and the anti hero protagonist in Alfred Bester The Stars My Destination
are echoed and further refined in William Gibson s novel Neuromancer solidifying the cyberpunk
subgenre. Women also have more respect and prevalence in Gibson s later book.
Both novels portray the rise of a rough outsider male protagonist against forces much larger than him
as made possible through the novel s dark and corrupt world. Gully Foyle in The Stars My Destination
is the sole survivor of a space attack on his ship the Nomad and his enormous will to survive allows
him to endure for six months. When another spaceship, the Vorga, finally does pass by but ignores his

Gully is not a good person and will do anything it takes to get his revenge. However, this does fit
Bester s purpose for Gully s character. His eye opening speech towards the end of the novel does make
the message come across in the manner that Bester wanted it to. It resonates powerfully, You pigs,
you. You rut like pigs, is all. You got the most in you, and you use the least... Got a million in you and
spend pennies. Got a genius in you an think crazies. Got a heart in you and feel empties. All a you
(Bester 230). Despite this, Case is simply more dimensional. His violent acts and drug abuse are a
response to a more complex reason than revenge. Case also employs more empathetic behaviors
throughout the book. He does become at peace with his past, specifically regarding Linda. When he
leaves her the final time he gives her his jacket, I don t know, he said, maybe you re here. Anyway, it
gets cold. (Gibson 144). Case s relationship with Molly is also more pure and respectful than any of

non judgmental listening acceptance of the client, better known as unconditional positive regard His
therapeutic approach is known as the Person Centered Therapy, which is based on the concepts of

Gentrification Of Downtown Kansas City
Gentrification can be defined simply as the shift in the makeup of the people in a community. It is the
transition in a community from a run down, poorer area to a more wealthy demographic.
Gentrification starts with the increase of property values caused by brokers and real estate agents.
These brokers and real estate agents usually benefit the most from gentrification. Businesses that are
moving in are storefront coffee shops, cafes, boutiques, etc. Since these newer, nicer shops are
occupying the storefront, the rent for the apartments above rise, causing many people to lose their
homes. The new tenants that move into these apartments are typically young and hip. They prefer to
hang out at these coffee shops below. These new landlords are more in touch with the demographic
changes and are looking to change the area in order to make money. The older, current landlords do
not see a need for change. Some people will argue that gentrification is inevitable. While
gentrification is happing all over the world, I did my research specifically on downtown Kansas City,
Missouri, Harlem, New York, and DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York. Gentrification comes with both
positive and negative effects. These three areas each show a unique perspective on gentrification. An
example of gentrification that has already happened in New York is DUMBO; it stands for Down
Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. DUMBO is an older area of Brooklyn. David Walentas is the

The Pros And Cons Of Multitasking
Having single pointed focus and no multitasking In today s modern hustle and bustle, people are very
much preoccupied by their work, are always in hurry, engrossed in busy schedules and easily get
agitated so much so that people have ingrained and imbibed a word to describe their efforts to respond
to the many pressing demands on our time: Multitasking. Used for decades to describe the parallel
processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do
simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of
multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of
using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now
made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based
psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written
a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme
multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe
they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. In one recent study, Russell Poldrack, a
psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that multitasking adversely
affects how you learn. Even if you learn while multitasking, that learning is less flexible and more

Taking a Look at Age Discrimination
Introduction
The importance of age in a social context is becoming increasingly more important (Roscigno et al.,
2007), thus individuals could strong opinions regarding specific age groups in society. Ageism could
be a process of systematic stereotyping and discrimination against people because they are old (Butler
1969, as cited in Snape and Redman, 2003, p. 79), although recent developments have resulted in
ageism also being applicable to people being too young, as well as being too old (Palmore 1990, as
cited in Snape and Redman, 2003). This paper will assess age discrimination through its causes,
effects on older workers, financial motives, employer attitudes, consequences, effects on younger
workers and positive age discrimination. This essay will argue that age discrimination primarily
affects older workers as a result of the negative stereotypes society associates with them.
Causes of Age Discrimination:
Stereotypes and assumptions are what form the phenomenon of ageism (Macnicol, 2006).
Stereotyping is the prime component in the process of ageism, which leads to age discrimination,
which includes actions such as excluding those in certain age groups or disadvantaging them
(McHullin and Marshall 2001, as cited in Snape and Redman). It has been expressed by some that
older workers have played their part, and hint at older workers to leave the workforce in order to allow
more job opportunities the upcoming younger working generation (Shah and Kleiner, 2005).

a fundamental part of a person s life. Having refuge can be enough to stabilize a someone. In some
cases refuge may be the only reason, someone may be working towards success. Since refuge can
assist an individual with overcoming issue, it is a basic part of their peace of mind. Most individuals

The Authoritative Sources Of Economics
The Authoritative Sources of Economics: Scholarly Journals, Economics Studies Publications,
Research Institutions, and Online Databases
Word Count: 1377
Introduction to the Authoritative Sources of Economics
In the field of Economics, valuable theories and analysis are based on previous economics research
and studies. Peer reviewed scholarly journals, economics studies publications, economics research
institutions, and online economics databases are the leading sources in the field of economics. Experts
and researchers in the field of economics focus on the study of cause and effect of economy by
investigating reliable sources such as politics, culture, world ideology etc. Research and writing
sources in Economics can be distinct from other discipline because large authoritative information is
interpreted by figures, statistics and graphics. Researchers in the field of economics focus on how
variables affect economy as a whole and they predict responses to future changes in market conditions
or policy.
Peer reviewed scholarly journals
Scholarly journals in academic study are published by academic institution such as universities,
colleges or research organizations etc. Peer reviewed scholarly journals have less bias than other type
of sources because research writings need to meet certain criteria before publishing. The scholarly
journal is usually funded by the university or related authority to support the research in the specific
field. For instance,

use IFRS to IPO firms that used domestic GAAP. This study found that IFRS adoption can generate a

experience improved comparability from IFRS adoption as a result of systemic corruption, the United

Kaluza Klein Theory and Higher Dimensions
Kaluza Klein Theory and Higher Dimensions I. Introduction Human civilization has always been
characterized by our ceaseless curiosity and awe for what we do not comprehend. Our wonder for
what lies beyond the scope of our daily lives has been the driving force for innovation and
advancement. The intensity of our fascination for what lie beyond is consummately personified in the
late astrologer and philosopher Giordano Bruno(1548 1600). Captivated by gazing into the night sky,
Bruno dreamed of a homogenous universe(reference to phy 312) with a multitude suns with earth like
planets rotating about them just like our own solar system. Publicly hailed a heretic, Bruno was
rejected from scientific and religious communities alike. Even after being excommunicated by three
different churches and denounced at Oxford University, Bruno held on tight to his beliefs. His ideas
would eventually lead him to the stake where he was burned to death on charges of heresy and
opposing the catholic faith. Bruno s death served as indispensable sacrifice for modern day cosmology
and our scientific community. It ultimately marked the beginning of humanity s questioning of
whether our world is actually what tradition tells us. Whether if it was Einstein questioning Newton s
long held laws of motions or Bohr questioning Einstein s beliefs on quantum mechanics, history has
repeatedly shown that curiosity about what we do not know is integral towards the advancement of
science. In Bruno s

Market Failure And Its Effect On Society Essay
Market Failure is due to an imbalance or a change in supply and demand of certain goods and services
this, consequently, can lead to a shortage of products or an unnecessarily large inventory. Market
failure can be caused by many different factors such as positive and negative externalities, imbalance
of the price and quality of goods and services and also unrealistic projections for demand along with a
plethora of other factors. The perfect market, is an efficient organisation that meets all the wants and
desires of the public without any wastage of supplies and resources. However, there are many failures
to the perfect market that cause it to be ineffective. This essay will highlight and explain the main
causes of market failure, how they can be opposed and the effect market failure will have on society.
The idea behind the perfectly competitive market is that consumers buy whichever goods they wish or
need with their income and suppliers are free to decide what they produce, how to produce it and what
price to sell it at. For the competitive market to be efficient and effective, supply and demand must be
at equilibrium. If demand for a good increases this will consequently cause a shortage, this will then
cause the price to increase due to demand being higher than supply, as the price has increased demand
will slowly decrease, this will continue to happen until demand and supply are once again in
equilibrium.
There are many assumptions behind the competitive market that

First I spent five years in an unsuitable profession (The Indian Imperial Police, in Burma), and then I

me for the first time fully aware of the existence of the working classes, and the job in Burma had
given me some understanding of the nature of imperialism: but these experiences were not enough to
give me an accurate political orientation. Then came Hitler, the Spanish Civil War, etc. By the end of
1935 I had still failed to reach a firm decision. The Spanish war and other events in 1936 37 turned the
scale and thereafter I knew where I stood. Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936

one takes and what approach one follows. And the more one is conscious of one s political bias, the
more chance one has of acting politically without sacrificing one s aesthetic and intellectual integrity.

Memory Vs Human Memory
1. The purpose of memory, whether it be in humans or machine, is to store information for a period of
time. Both human memory and the memory used in artificial devices are capable of doing so but they
differ in many ways; two differences being discussed will be on how memory is encoded, and how
memory is stored.
There are endless stimuli in the world meaning we humans are constantly feeling, hearing, smelling,
tasting, and touching; at any given point in time, our brain is working and processing this into our
sensory memory. Information encoded in our sensory memory will only last a very short amount of
time (A few seconds sometimes even shorter) before it is either forgotten or transferred to the next
memory store, short term (Also known as working memory). The main factor in whether information
is further retained to short term memory, is attention. The three main ways information can be encoded
is through visual, auditory, and semantic coding. Visual coding enables information to be stored as
pictures, auditory stored as sounds, and semantic stored as meaning.
Memory encoding in machines can be stored as pictures and sounds but meaning is exclusive to
humans. Computer memory does not depend on attention; whatever is captured/experienced by the
machine will be encoded in the artificial device. Unlike human memory, the information will not be
forgotten if there is not enough attention and will be stored; bringing us to our next difference.
The memory used in artificial devices uses complex systems such as primary/secondary memory,
RAM, caches, etc. However, machine memory can explained described as black or white ; they either
know something or they don t, and when they do learn something they generally don t forget (Unless
they re programmed to do so).
This is where memory storage differs in the human system. As previously mentioned information is
stored in the short term/working memory with attention heavily factoring it s retention. Now for
information to stay in the active working memory, it must rehearsed over and over. Once mental
activity stops it is either forgotten or goes further into the long term memory. The long term memory
store is similar to memory storage system in computers in the sense

stands for the ideology which is based on the premise that the individual s loyalty and devotion

Nationalism is a modern movement. After it came it got ignored in political philosophy which got
noticed. And in last decade, it further led to issues in the international justice of terrorism, the clash of

The role of nationalism in India. The conditions of the minority groups are growing worst day by day
and the reason is many possible things. Some administrative people make our constitution worst. The
population of Muslim people is going down. It s true that in higher position there are minority people
but in the community and national identity they are very less. India is a very composite country
because it consists of a lot of languages, religions, customs, ways of living life etc. And all these
things are in the majority and minority groups which led to inner conflicts which give a very bad
outcome of the nation s state. And the basic issue of India is to build up a real and inner sense. And the
main point he made was that the feeling of nationalism is going enlarging and more especially it takes

Defense Mechanisms And The First Defense Mechanism
Defense Mechanisms Defense mechanisms are known as ways we protect ourselves from the feelings
or things that we do not want to deal with. Defense mechanisms tend to be a way to cope with
situations, from which an individual feels anxiety or stressed. Everyone uses defenses mechanisms to
help them get through frustrating experiences. There are several types of defense mechanisms; the
main ones that I can remember using are regression, denial, projection, repression, rationalization, and
displacement. The first defense mechanism I like to uses is regression. Regression is defined as
leading to the temporary or long term reversion of the ego to an earlier stage of development rather
than handling unacceptable impulses in a more adult way. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Regression helps people by, when someone confronted by stressful events, they sometimes abandon
coping strategies and revert to patterns of behavior used earlier in development. The second defense
mechanism, I ve used is denial. Denial is simply refusing to acknowledge that an event has occurred, a
person acts as if nothing has happened, behaving in ways those others may see as bizarre. In my life, I
have only known one person that has past that I have cared about. When she past a couple years ago, I
just did not want to believe it. I stayed up almost every night that week, trying to think that it was not
real and it was only a dream. Still to this day, I try to tell myself it is not real, but reality hits me and
she will always be gone. Personally I can only remember using denial as a defense mechanism once in
my life, but I also had a neighbor his name was Cody he was 17 years old and he started using drugs,
the changes in his behavior made it pretty obvious to anyone who know him, but Cody s parents just
didn t believe. I believe that Cody s parents where in denial; because that was there baby, and they just
did not want to believe that there kid would get into that kind of stuff. The third defense mechanism I
have used is projection. Projection is where a person defends themselves against unpleasant impulses
by denying their existence in themselves, while attributing them to others. I have been known of doing

Demand Curve and Supply Curve
Literature Review Demand and supply have been generalized to explain macroeconomic variables in a
market economy. The Aggregate Demand Aggregate Supply model is the most direct application of
supply and demand to macroeconomics. Compared to microeconomic uses of demand and supply,
different theoretical considerations apply to such macroeconomic counterparts as aggregate demand
and aggregate supply. The AD AS or Aggregate Demand Aggregate Supply model is a macroeconomic
model that explains price level and output through the relationship of aggregate demand and aggregate
supply. It is based on the theory of John Maynard Keynes presented in his work The General Theory
of Employment, Interest, and Money . It is one of the primary simplified ... Show more content on

The vertical axis is the price level. The horizontal axis is output or income. The short run aggregate
supply curve is downward sloping with slope equal to (1/a) while the long run aggregate supply curve
is vertical with no slope. The reason that the short term aggregate supply curve is upward sloping is a
bit more complex. Factors that determine the slope of AD AS curve model The slope of AD curve
reflects the extent to which the real balances change the equilibrium level of spending, taking both
assets and goods markets into consideration. An increase in real balances will lead to a larger increase
in equilibrium income and spending, the smaller the interest responsiveness of money demand and the
higher the interest responsiveness of investment demand. An increase in real balances leads to a larger
level of income and spending, the larger the value of multiplier and the smaller the income response of
money demand. This implies that the AD curve is flatter, smaller is the interest responsiveness of the
demand for money and larger is the interest responsiveness of investment demand. Also, the AD curve
is flatter; the larger is the multiplier and the smaller the income responsiveness of the demand for
money. We know that aggregate demand is comprised of C(Y T) + I(r) + G + NX(e) = Y. Thus, a
decrease in any one of these terms will lead

Abstract Implementing pricing strategy decisions requires properly addressing organizational issues
related to how decisions are made and enforced as well as motivational issues that encourage

Vitamin Deficiencies and Psychiatric Illnesses
Deficiencies of vitamins are associated with psychiatric illnesses either by being the primary cause or
an exacerbating factor. Psychiatric symptoms could also lead to poor nutrition. Vitamin deficiencies
may play a role in compromising patient recovery.
Vitamins are organic substances essential for several enzymatic functions.
There are 13 known vitamins which are either fat soluble (4 vitamins i.e. KEDA) or water soluble (9
vitamins i.e. C, the B group).
Regarding brain function, B vitamins are essential in the maintenance of myelin, neuro transmitter
production, and methylation cycle. Fat soluble vitamins are necessary in inflammatory regulation,

This position developed my interpersonal and team working skills; it also instilled the importance of

address their needs and aspirations.
My current role as a child welfare practitioner is third reason why I am applying for the Victoria s
MSW program. I believe the school s educational mission will further help me in working with
individuals and families from a critical point perspective by focusing on the structural, feminist, and
Indigenous levels of oppression. I am aware of my power as a child welfare worker and how I
sometimes create a dominate relationship to a family with child protection concerns. Thus, I believe
that the university s MSW educational mission combined with their scholarly mission to sharing and
creating knowledge from a critical view could help me to improve and integrate more anti oppressive
practices as a parent child capacity building practitioner.
Over my period of volunteer experience and professional work, I have taken special interests in
children and families because conflicts in the home have steadily increased over the years. My area of
interest I will critically explore therefore during my graduate education is, Aboriginal Parents and

Comparing Marriage Proposals from Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
The story of Pride and Prejudice revolves around a mother of five daughters, Mrs. Bennet, whose sole
purpose is to marry off her daughters to suitable men. Jane is the eldest out of the Bennet sisters. Jane
is the closest to Elizabeth from the rest of her sisters, this is because they stand on similar maturity
levels, and
Elizabeth is the second oldest.
The main theme of the novel is based on the importance of marriage. It is important because a woman
will have to marry a suitable man who can support her when her father passes away, it is equally
important to men because it is important for them to keep their social status, they will do ... Show

I will begin by analysing the way in which Mr Collins proposes to
Elizabeth. This started because he was at an age where he was expected to get married soon, and he
wanted to marry one of Mr Bennet s daughters. He was at first interested in Jane, but as soon as he
found out she may be getting together with Mr Bingley he backed off and moved onto Elizabeth Mr.
Collins had only to change from Jane to
Elizabeth and it was soon done done while Mrs. Bennet was stirring the fire. Elizabeth, equally next to
Jane in birth and beauty, succeeded her of course . The main reasons why Mr Collins wants to marry is
because he thinks it will make him happy, but more importantly, Lady Catherine de Bourgh has told
him he must do so. Mr
Collins s character shows he is not actually very interested in finding a wife whom he loves and has
real feelings for, he just wants one so he can say he is married. This is why he is not the ideal husband
for Elizabeth, because she wants to marry for love. Later on, after he is rejected by Elizabeth, Mr
Collins marries Charlotte Lucas.
They marry because it is obvious they can satisfy each others needs because Collins needs a wife to
present to Lady Catherine and
Charlotte is in danger of becoming an old maid because she was getting older, and if she didn t get
married soon, she may not have married at all. Their contract of marriage was based on absolutely no

Everyday from the moment we wake up, we live our lives caring what other people think of us.
We accept the status quo for what it is because everyone around us does.
We tip toe our way through life by doing things in order to please others, not because it s what we

Field Camp Analysis Essay
During the GEOL252 Borland field camp, a number of different basement and basin rocks were
examined. This report will contain descriptions and interpretations of the basement outcrop which is
named the Triangle. This outcrop is best exposed on Borland Road, with a grid reference of 116455

The Triangle is part of the Heterogenous Gneiss, which is a formation of several different types of
gneisses that formed in the late Jurassic. This particular outcrop is about seven meters high, 15 meters
wide, and has three types of gneisses and four granite pegmatite intrusions. The purpose of examining
this outcrop was to get an understanding of how cross cutting relationships can determine relative age,
and to see physical properties of rocks that make up some of the Median Batholith.
Observations:
Orthogneiss: This gneiss, annotated as 1 in Figure 2, is a coarse, dark gray rock that contains clasts of
diorite. The observed minerals include biotite, quartz, plagioclase, muscovite, and hornblende. The
rock has a foliated texture, and an orientation of 042/38º NW. It is in contact with a granite pegmatite
intrusion annotated as 7 in Figure 2. It is hard, and not easily broken apart.

New Predictive Model For Vaginal Birth After Cesarean
A clear objective of this study has been demonstrated in the paper: To construct a new predictive
model for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), which incorporates the factors that can only be
obtained as the pregnancy progresses and compare the new model with a previous model that only
have variables available at the first prenatal visit. In this study, authors stated that in a previous model
is limited to the variables which are available at the first prenatal visit, and they want to know whether
incorporating pregnant woman s most recent circumstances can refine the predicted probability of
VBAC. Model and Variables: Logistic model has been use in this study. In previous model, only
variables at first prenatal visit have been used. In this study, Grobman et. al developed the model by
adding the variables that can only be obtained as the pregnancy progresses. Cross validation method
was used to evaluate the predictive power of models. Dataset was equally divided into two parts.
Models were fitted on training set and tested on testing set. Results The significant factors in the
model were presented in table 1. In Fig 1 and 2, calibration curves (empirical probabilities vs
predicted probabilities) were presented. The predicted probabilities are the mid points of five equal
intervals (0% 20%, 21% 40%, ..., etc). The empirical probabilities were calculated by average all
women in the same interval. The closer to the 45 degree line, the better the model is. Figure 1

Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Stereotactic radiosurgery works the same as all other forms of radiation treatment. It does not remove
the tumor or lesion, but is distorts the DNA of the tumor cells. The cells then lose their ability to
reproduce and retain fluids. The tumor reduction occurs at the rate of normal growth for the specific
tumor cell. In lesions such as AVMs (a tangle of blood vessels in the brain), radiosurgery causes the
blood vessels to thicken and close off. The shrinking of a tumor or closing off of a vessel occurs over a
period of time. For benign tumors and vessels, this will usually be 18 months to two years. For
malignant or metastatic tumors, results may be seen in a few months, because these cells are very fast
growing.

Native American Culture Research Paper
Native American culture has impacted America in many ways. Just some of these ways include
agriculture, language, and governmental ideas.
About four hundred years ago, when the pilgrims came to America, they met Squanto. After it became
obvious that they were going to struggle to farm, Squanto, a native American who spoke English,
taught them all about how to successfully farm in their homeland (Amenlnckx). Without Squanto and
his tribe, the Pilgrims would have likely starved that winter. Native American culture is probably best
known for its agricultural ideas. The indigenous people of North America have a deep respect and
knowledge for the land. They care for every living thing, and believe that everything has a purpose.

Each Native American tribe, also known as a band or a nation, is practically independent (Gibson).
They have their own laws, government, security, and services. This government was strictly
democratic, and all of their meetings were open to everyone (Bjornland 50). Many Native American
tribal systems were, or are, based on written law. This amazing culture is the earliest surviving
governmental tradition in the world that is based on peace (Bjornland 50). Decisions are made by
consensus, or a general agreement, and punishments could be death, depending on the seriousness of
the conflicts (Bjornland 50). The confederation, a group of magic Americans that worked together for
the greater good, was formed due to the fact that the Native Americans were tired of tribal welfare
(Bjornland 50). The League of Nations (also known as the confederation) consisted of each nation
running its own affairs and acting as a whole when dealing with outsiders. These ideas for a successful
government have certainly rubbed off on America. Many people would agree that the United States
government is also based on peace. When faced with the choice of war or trying to negotiate peace,
America will (most) always choose peace. Without this firm belief in trying to keep the peace, and

The Age Discrimination On Employment Act Of 1967
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 was established to provide fairness in the
workplace for citizens over the age of 40. This law was intended to guard against employers using
unscrupulous hiring practices and unfairly firing individuals without legitimate reasons. The Civil
Rights Act was updated to fight discrimination based on sex, race, and religion, but never addressed
the issue of age. Age related concerns arose during the 1960 s when the economy began to change
rapidly in technology and scope. Many experienced professionals were being displaced or simply
discriminated against, because it was believed that it was cheaper to hire and train inexperienced
employees, or because it would save on pension expense that was due to personnel approaching
retirement age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 provides security for older
employees that have the competency to do work but are held in prejudice, because they are advancing
in years. According to the West s Encyclopedia of American Law (2005), before the enactment of the
Employment Act of 1967, it was a standard practice to fire a senior employee in order to give a
promotion to a younger staff member. This practice supposedly saved the company money, because
the wages of the newly promoted person were lower compared to the previous staff. In addition, this
behavior promoted the idea within the business that the manager does not need any substantial
justification to let staff members go. The

Vasculitis affecting large arteries A large vessel essentially refers to the aorta and its largest branches that are directed to the head and neck and the extremities. Western expansion was a great part of the growth of the United States because it gave Americans new land to settle, expanded its economy, and made the United States a world power. The desire to expand was described by newspaper editor John O Sullivan who wrote, it is America s Manifest Destiny to overspread and to possess the whole of the continent . • 8. Gentrification Of Downtown Kansas City Gentrification can be defined simply as the shift in the makeup of the people in a community. It is the transition in a community from a run down, poorer area to a more wealthy demographic. Gentrification starts with the increase of property values caused by brokers and real estate agents. These brokers and real estate agents usually benefit the most from gentrification. Businesses that are moving in are storefront coffee shops, cafes, boutiques, etc. Since these newer, nicer shops are occupying the storefront, the rent for the apartments above rise, causing many people to lose their homes. The new tenants that move into these apartments are typically young and hip. They prefer to hang out at these coffee shops below. These new landlords are more in touch with the demographic changes and are looking to change the area in order to make money. The older, current landlords do not see a need for change. Some people will argue that gentrification is inevitable. While gentrification is happing all over the world, I did my research specifically on downtown Kansas City, Missouri, Harlem, New York, and DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York. Gentrification comes with both positive and negative effects. These three areas each show a unique perspective on gentrification. Used for decades to describe the parallel processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for the human attempt to do simultaneously as many things as possible and as quickly as possible. But more recently, ill effects of multitasking have begun to emerge. Numerous studies have shown the sometimes fatal danger of using cell phones and other electronic devices while driving, for example, and several states have now made that particular form of multitasking illegal ! Dr. Edward Hallowell, a Massachusetts based psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has written a book with the self explanatory title CrazyBusy, has been offering therapies to combat extreme multitasking for years; in his book he calls multitasking a mythical activity in which people believe they can perform two or more tasks simultaneously. Ageism could be a process of systematic stereotyping and discrimination against people because they are old (Butler 1969, as cited in Snape and Redman, 2003, p. 79), although recent developments have resulted in ageism also being applicable to people being too young, as well as being too old (Palmore 1990, as cited in Snape and Redman, 2003). This paper will assess age discrimination through its causes, effects on older workers, financial motives, employer attitudes, consequences, effects on younger workers and positive age discrimination. This essay will argue that age discrimination primarily affects older workers as a result of the negative stereotypes society associates with them. Causes of Age Discrimination: Stereotypes and assumptions are what form the phenomenon of ageism (Macnicol, 2006). Stereotyping is the prime component in the process of ageism, which leads to age discrimination, which includes actions such as excluding those in certain age groups or disadvantaging them (McHullin and Marshall 2001, as cited in Snape and Redman). Introduction Human civilization has always been characterized by our ceaseless curiosity and awe for what we do not comprehend. Our wonder for what lies beyond the scope of our daily lives has been the driving force for innovation and advancement. The intensity of our fascination for what lie beyond is consummately personified in the late astrologer and philosopher Giordano Bruno(1548 1600). Captivated by gazing into the night sky, Bruno dreamed of a homogenous universe(reference to phy 312) with a multitude suns with earth like planets rotating about them just like our own solar system. Publicly hailed a heretic, Bruno was rejected from scientific and religious communities alike. Even after being excommunicated by three different churches and denounced at Oxford University, Bruno held on tight to his beliefs. His ideas would eventually lead him to the stake where he was burned to death on charges of heresy and opposing the catholic faith. Bruno s death served as indispensable sacrifice for modern day cosmology and our scientific community. It ultimately marked the beginning of humanity s questioning of whether our world is actually what tradition tells us. The perfect market, is an efficient organisation that meets all the wants and desires of the public without any wastage of supplies and resources. However, there are many failures to the perfect market that cause it to be ineffective. This essay will highlight and explain the main causes of market failure, how they can be opposed and the effect market failure will have on society. The idea behind the perfectly competitive market is that consumers buy whichever goods they wish or need with their income and suppliers are free to decide what they produce, how to produce it and what price to sell it at. For the competitive market to be efficient and effective, supply and demand must be at equilibrium. If demand for a good increases this will consequently cause a shortage, this will then cause the price to increase due to demand being higher than supply, as the price has increased demand will slowly decrease, this will continue to happen until demand and supply are once again in equilibrium. • 20. Memory Vs Human Memory 1. The purpose of memory, whether it be in humans or machine, is to store information for a period of time. Both human memory and the memory used in artificial devices are capable of doing so but they differ in many ways; two differences being discussed will be on how memory is encoded, and how memory is stored. There are endless stimuli in the world meaning we humans are constantly feeling, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching; at any given point in time, our brain is working and processing this into our sensory memory. Information encoded in our sensory memory will only last a very short amount of time (A few seconds sometimes even shorter) before it is either forgotten or transferred to the next memory store, short term (Also known as working memory). The main factor in whether information is further retained to short term memory, is attention. The three main ways information can be encoded is through visual, auditory, and semantic coding. Visual coding enables information to be stored as pictures, auditory stored as sounds, and semantic stored as meaning. Memory encoding in machines can be stored as pictures and sounds but meaning is exclusive to humans. Computer memory does not depend on attention; whatever is captured/experienced by the machine will be encoded in the artificial device. Unlike human memory, the information will not be forgotten if there is not enough attention and will be stored; bringing us to our next difference. The memory used in artificial devices uses complex systems such as primary/secondary memory, RAM, caches, etc. However, machine memory can explained described as black or white ; they either know something or they don t, and when they do learn something they generally don t forget (Unless they re programmed to do so). This is where memory storage differs in the human system. As previously mentioned information is stored in the short term/working memory with attention heavily factoring it s retention. Now for information to stay in the active working memory, it must rehearsed over and over. Once mental activity stops it is either forgotten or goes further into the long term memory. In addition, I led a group of twenty students to the East Coast Asian American Student Union conference at Columbia University. I developed preparatory pre departure workshops, handled scholarship distribution, and outlined travel logistics. As a member of the AASU board, I had the opportunity to develop my own general body meeting on the topic of Asian American portrayal in the media. My position as Conference Chair was my first large responsibility in college. This position developed my interpersonal and team working skills; it also instilled the importance of time management and organizational habits. Through the inspiration of my peers, I became committed to bring creativity and innovation to all events that I planned. This position allowed me to explore my passion of minority advocacy though the Asian/Asian American population and serve as a catalyst for the promotion of education and awareness of Asian history and culture. Elizabeth, equally next to Jane in birth and beauty, succeeded her of course . The main reasons why Mr Collins wants to marry is because he thinks it will make him happy, but more importantly, Lady Catherine de Bourgh has told him he must do so. Mr Collins s character shows he is not actually very interested in finding a wife whom he loves and has real feelings for, he just wants one so he can say he is married. This is why he is not the ideal husband for Elizabeth, because she wants to marry for love. Later on, after he is rejected by Elizabeth, Mr Collins marries Charlotte Lucas. They marry because it is obvious they can satisfy each others needs because Collins needs a wife to present to Lady Catherine and Charlotte is in danger of becoming an old maid because she was getting older, and if she didn t get married soon, she may not have married at all. New Predictive Model For Vaginal Birth After Cesarean A clear objective of this study has been demonstrated in the paper: To construct a new predictive model for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), which incorporates the factors that can only be obtained as the pregnancy progresses and compare the new model with a previous model that only have variables available at the first prenatal visit. In this study, authors stated that in a previous model is limited to the variables which are available at the first prenatal visit, and they want to know whether incorporating pregnant woman s most recent circumstances can refine the predicted probability of VBAC. Model and Variables: Logistic model has been use in this study. In previous model, only variables at first prenatal visit have been used. In this study, Grobman et. al developed the model by adding the variables that can only be obtained as the pregnancy progresses. Cross validation method was used to evaluate the predictive power of models. Dataset was equally divided into two parts. Models were fitted on training set and tested on testing set. Results The significant factors in the model were presented in table 1. In Fig 1 and 2, calibration curves (empirical probabilities vs predicted probabilities) were presented. The predicted probabilities are the mid points of five equal intervals (0% 20%, 21% 40%, ..., etc). The empirical probabilities were calculated by average all women in the same interval. The tumor reduction occurs at the rate of normal growth for the specific tumor cell. In lesions such as AVMs (a tangle of blood vessels in the brain), radiosurgery causes the blood vessels to thicken and close off. The shrinking of a tumor or closing off of a vessel occurs over a period of time. For benign tumors and vessels, this will usually be 18 months to two years. Many Native American tribal systems were, or are, based on written law. This amazing culture is the earliest surviving governmental tradition in the world that is based on peace (Bjornland 50). Decisions are made by consensus, or a general agreement, and punishments could be death, depending on the seriousness of the conflicts (Bjornland 50). The confederation, a group of magic Americans that worked together for the greater good, was formed due to the fact that the Native Americans were tired of tribal welfare (Bjornland 50). • 38. The Age Discrimination On Employment Act Of 1967 The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 was established to provide fairness in the workplace for citizens over the age of 40. This law was intended to guard against employers using unscrupulous hiring practices and unfairly firing individuals without legitimate reasons. The Civil Rights Act was updated to fight discrimination based on sex, race, and religion, but never addressed the issue of age. Age related concerns arose during the 1960 s when the economy began to change rapidly in technology and scope. Many experienced professionals were being displaced or simply discriminated against, because it was believed that it was cheaper to hire and train inexperienced employees, or because it would save on pension expense that was due to personnel approaching retirement age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 provides security for older employees that have the competency to do work but are held in prejudice, because they are advancing in years. According to the West s Encyclopedia of American Law (2005), before the enactment of the Employment Act of 1967, it was a standard practice to fire a senior employee in order to give a promotion to a younger staff member. This practice supposedly saved the company money, because the wages of the newly promoted person were lower compared to the previous staff.
