The Impact Of Privacy In Nigeria
Before the British colonial invasion, Nigeria lived as autonomous commities, kingdoms and
caliphates, where political, social and economic administrations were carried out independently. At the
invasion, Nigeria became a British protectorate, part of the British Empire in 1901. However, for
administrative purposes the protectorate was divided into the Southern and Northern Protectorates. In
1914 both protectorates were merged into a single colony known as Nigeria by the effort of Sir
Fredrick Lugard. This amalgamation was with the intent to unite the people and culture of the
Northern and Southern protectorates into a sovereign nation called Nigeria. However, the success of
this 1914 amalgamation has been called to question given the ever widening gap in ... Show more

Rhetorical Devices In 102 Minutes
102 Minutes Essay
In 102 Minutes, the authors force the reader to absorb the significant toll that the events of 9 11 had on
the families involved and people across America; also, Dwyer and Flynn seek to inform them of the
errors in the design of the towers and decisions made by rescuers that preceded the catastrophic events
that took place. The authors mention these facts and arguments to ensure the improvement of future
architectural practices, prepare people for intense situations, and to personalize the tragedy that holds
such an important place in our country s history. Through various rhetorical strategies, the writers
appeal emotionally and analytically to their audience.
The World Trade Center (WTC) held fairly high regard throughout New York as a structurally sound
building, but the authors of 102 Minutes beg to differ on this opinion. They use various diagrams and
statistics of the incredible impact and destruction the planes caused to the building, arguments against
the poor architectural design and support of the towers, and periodic timestamps to make claims and
factual statements about the events that occurred. The timestamps serve as a means of the authors
building suspense in their audience, deepening uncertainty in the audience which intends to move
them to read further and discover the office laborers fates. Moments like At 9:19... we re trapped...

Restraint Essay
Restraint
Restraint is a major idea in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Restraint constantly influences the
decisions people make. Kurtz s lack of restraint kills him, while Marlow s restraint saves and prevents
him from becoming like Kurtz. Kurtz is a man who [kicks] himself loose of the earth (Conrad, 61). He
does not have allegiance to anyone except to himself. Kurtz s absence of restraint exists because he
holds a lusty power in an un civilized country. Restraint is affected by three factors; power, lust, and
his surroundings. Kurtz s display of restraint is a prime example that exemplifies the affect of these
three factors on restraint.
Kurtz was not always the power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He discovers many villages and goes to them with thunder and lightning (Conrad, 51). He uses guns in
order to frighten the natives. Through fear, the natives grew to worship Kurtz. He becomes leader of
the villages; a deity. Unlike most foreigners, he does not have to adjust to his surroundings. Instead,
the natives had to adapt to him. Kurtz exercises his power by conquering additional villages and even
by executing people. Exterminate all the brutes (Conrad, 46)! Kurtz eliminates rebels who get in his
way. He slices off their heads and then displays them outside of his house. This serves as a warning to
his people to not betray him. In a sense, Kurtz is at the top of the food chain. He has great power and
uses it without restraint to satisfy his desires.
After raiding villages and obtaining followers, Kurtz becomes very power hungry. He enjoys having
power; compiling ivory and having worshipers. He abuses his power without restraint. He has tried to
return to the Central Station; however, his lust for power disables him from returning.
Kurtz had apparently intended to return himself... but after coming three hundred miles, had suddenly
decided to go back, which he started to do alone in a small dugout with four paddlers, leaving the half
caste to continue down the river with the ivory. (Conrad, 28)
Kurtz had come down to deliver his ivory, stopped, and

My Passion Of Reading
Being able to read and write is arguably the most essential skill needed in life. I was able to begin
mastering the skill of reading at a very young age and to some individuals it may become later in life
because it seems boring to them. I did not have an interest in reading until I watched the movie Pearl
Harbor the one with Ben Affleck in it. This movie created my passion of reading by learning about the
second world war. Also, I read books to learn new information on material. I did not do it for any type
of approval from someone contradictory to Cisneros who always wanted the approval of her father
(102). At a young age, I never enjoyed reading because it seemed boring, pointless, and a waste of
time, but when I started to read about World War II I started to read more and more articles and books
whenever I had the opportunity. First, the second world war ignited the flame that started all the
reading over the last nine years of my life. The first book that I read was With the Old Breed: At
Peleliu and Okinawa, this book was about the journal entries the author, Eugene Bondurant (E.B.)
Sledge, kept inside of his pocket sized Bible. He carried the journal entries with him during the events
he fought in at Okinawa and Peleliu. While reading the book there were many words that I did not
understand or did not make sense with the context of the sentence. I was able to use a dictionary to
look up the words and learn the words that previously had no meaning to me in any

Fort Worth Essay
Drovers, people who herd large groups of cattle, heading up the Chisholm Trail toward the railroads
the final stop for any last minute supplies was Fort Worth, Texas. Beyond that you d cross the Red
River and into Indian Territory. During the years of 1866 and 1890, drovers herded over four million
head of cattle through Fort Worth. The city soon became known as Cowtown. As the railroad arrived
in 1876, Fort Worth developed into a shipping port for livestock, so the city built up the Union
Stockyards. Despite the Union Stockyards lacking the essential funding to buy enough cattle to attract
local ranchers, President Mike C. Hurley welcomed wealth Boston capitalist Greenleif Simpson into

The northern and southern site would be given to either company and decided by a coin toss. In the
end, Armour won the coin toss and chose the northern site; construction began in 1902. As for the
Swift Co. the southern site had a large gravel pit that was very useful for the construction of their
plant. They had such an abundance of gravel they even sold some of the gravel Armour at the northern

railroad offices, and many support businesses. With Ft. Worth booming for all its latest success it was
known as The Wall Street of the West. With a little background information on the Stockyards, we can
see the evolution of the city of Fort Worth from where it was back in the 1860 s to now in 2017. The
Stockyards were a valuable asset to the historical rise of Fort Worth and growing attention it has and
still receives. Today, without destroying the architectural integrity of the original structure, The Fort

modern setting. Thousands of people flood the streets to relive the real life cowboy days and take

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Scenario Based Analysis
7.2 Strengths and Limitations and Further Research of the Study
7.2.1 Strengths
The present research combined quantitative and qualitative research design. These approaches
complemented each other and provided different perspectives for analysis, which in turn allows valid
and reliable results. For instance, key informant interviews and expert communications contribute to
the design of simulation scenarios. The quantitative analysis allows measurement of the impact of
carbon payments using mathematical programming. Using econometric techniques, the willingness to
participate in forest based carbon projects was analyzed, as well as farmers clearing decisions in the
Amazon area. The qualitative approach allowed the inclusion of individual perceptions ... Show more

The model constructed relies on own survey data and some statistical data from national and regional
surveys. This data was used in parameterization and calibration activities. In the survey, heaping, a
typical error in agricultural data, was presented (Beegle et al. 2012). Heaping is a special case of data
coarsening where respondents round quantitative information (e.g. around one hectare may in reality
be either 1.2 or 0.8 hectare). This could have an influence on the estimates of production functions, as
happened with Schreinemachers (2006). Another problem was the farmers use local reference units
and we lack conversion tables for those units. For instance, outputs of some crops such as plantain,
cassava or fruits were reported in bunch or bags without specifying their weights in kg. In order to
overcome this later problem, a conversion table was built during interviews, through asking members
of the community with more education and also key experts. Information about fertilizer and
pesticides was recorded by plot and not by crop, a problem mentioned in section 6.2.2.1.1.
Externalities. In the study, carbon sequestration was the only positive externality accounted, but there
are other ecosystem services that forest projects could enhance such as biodiversity, soil erosion
control, and water regulation, among others. Incorporating these direct and indirect values into the
analysis will provide a better picture for land use

Analyzing Todd Burpo s Trip To Heaven
Trip to Heaven... And Back
If a survey was conducted about people s biggest fears thanatophobia would be on a list with
arachnophobia, coulrophobia and apiphobia. Many religions have their own ideas on our final resting
place . There are theories revolving around reincarnation, Heaven and Hell, one s own planet and
many more. All of these fantasies have one thing in common: little to no scientific reasoning. There
are stories occasionally that prove a theory but overall it is a bunch of he says, she says. This is until
the biography Heaven is for Real. The author Todd Burpo does an incredible job narrating his son s
story. Unlike some of the past fictional books and movies proving religious beliefs about the afterlife,

Todd Burpo does a remarkable job translating, three year old, Colton s descriptions of his trip to
Heaven... and back.
Another positive I found while reading the book Heaven is for Real is that I could not put it down.
This was because chapters were short and they always left the reader at a cliff hanger. Burpo did a
outstanding job keeping the reader engaged and wanting more by somehow creating cliffhangers after
every chapter. Whether it was whether Colton was going to make it out of surgery or mid conversation
about Colton s still born sister, Burpo made it impossible to not start the next chapter to find out the
answer or details to the newest bomb Colton dropped on his parents.
While some may be completely convinced by the innocence of the book, many skeptics (including
myself) would say Heaven is for Real is to monotonous and predictable. All of Colton s experiences
follows a pattern. He tells his father little detail out of the blue. His father experiences a gasp or feels
his heart skip a beat. Then he quotes the bible with some piece of scripture that fits. Finally, Colton
gets bored and runs off. This pattern is repeated through the entire

$12,000,000 and is a prime specimen of a canary yellow octahedron. Unfortunately, major
gemological organizations have yet to examine this diamond, thus some dispute the accuracy of these
claims.
Many experts declare the Kimberly Octahedron to be the world s largest yellow diamond. This
diamond weighs 616 carats and was also found in South Africa, but in the Dutoitspan Mine.
Regardless of which yellow diamond is actually the world s largest, these diamonds are a beautiful
alternative to traditional white diamonds, Emily explains.
Impurities trapped within the diamonds are what lead to the yellow color of this gem. When some of
the carbon atoms in the diamond are replaced with nitrogen atoms, the diamond emits a yellow color.
This is due to the amount of color

How Do Polar Bears Affect The Environment

When asked about the viral picture, he commented that the reports about thin or dead adult bears in
the Barents Sea region are sadly consistent with what is expected with the warming Arctic. The region
has the highest loss of sea eyes, as the summer ice free period is now twenty weeks longer than it was
in 1979, when records were first documented.
He adds that polar bears aren t the only animals that have altered their usual routines. Walruses have
been seen gathering in Northwest Alaska, bowhead whales are moving between Alaska and Greenland
and killer whales are migrating to the Arctic earlier than expected. Moreover, beluga whales have been
shifting their wintering areas to Greenland, all due to the loss of ice mass.

Most of these animals need sea ice to give birth, feed or rest. Shifting to land in order to accomplish
theses tasks tremendously affects the biology of many the polar bear specifically, as noted by Walter
Vetter and his team of scientists at the University of Hohenheim. The polar bears are becoming so thin
that their fat reserves have shifted completely in order to concentrate on nourishing the brain, kidneys
and liver. In light of the situation, scientists all over the world are urgently calling for a reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions, urging us to think about these animals and to help in any way that we

Assessment in Music Education has been a hot topic for some time now. Questions have arisen about
what to assess, how to assess and even questioning whether to assess at all. Pinpointing the issues at
hand is the first task in answering these questions but of course, there are different opinions on where
the issues start in Music education. Since the early 2000 s, the education system has adopted standards

Why The Eight Hour Workdays Are Sufficient
Eight Hour Workdays Are Sufficient
I do not think they should change the law from an eight hour workday to six hour workdays. Everyone
is used to their usual 9 5 jobs(or whatever it may be). It has been the normal routine for years. If you
don t want to work a full 40 hour job then you should have a part time job.
If workers could get all of the work done in the six hour shift then there should be no need for
overtime. I understand the issue of getting hours cut but, it is a plus for all workers to have more time
to spend doing what they want on their free time . Companies should be willing to give the option of
either eight or six hours days. Whomever would wish to stay and make up the extra hours and money

Catalase And Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction Lab Report
Catalase and Hydrogen Peroxide Experiment
How do living cells interface with the earth around them? Every living thing have impetuses, or
substances inside of them that accelerate concoction responses and procedures. Proteins are atoms that
empower the substance responses that happen in every single living thing on earth. In this catalase and
hydrogen peroxide test, we will find how compounds go about as impetuses by bringing on synthetic
responses to happen all the more rapidly inside of living things.
Utilizing a potato and hydrogen peroxide, we can watch how compounds like catalase work to
perform disintegration, or the separating, of different substances. Catalase attempts to accelerate the

Essay on Serial Killers
Serial Killers
Serial killers kill because of three patterns we see develop throughout their lives. These patterns are
the development of youthful characteristics and habits, abusing events in their lives, and the final
push. To be qualified as a serial killer one must murder more than three victims, one at a time, in a
relatively short time period. The most common serial killers are white, heterosexual, sexually
frustrated, young adult males with low self esteem. Lester Ballard, the main character in Child of God,
by Cormac McCarthy, displays these patterns as I have found it described in texts on serial killers.
The earliest warning signs of serial killers can be traced back to their childhood. It is ... Show more

Many of these behaviors individually are expected of children. Some on the other hand, such as self
mutilation, cruelty to children, and convulsions, are not and are quite shocking to us. Lester Ballard
displays many of these symptoms in the novel. For example as a child, Lester lost a softball and
forced a younger boy to go get it by punching him in the face.
The top three most reported behaviors are daydreaming, compulsive masturbation, and isolation.
Daydreaming seems like a healthy, normal phase in every child s life, but this behavior actually makes
sense for serial killers. The reason is that one of the most important components to the creation of a
serial killer is fantasy. The killings are usually part of a complicated fantasy that builds to a climax at
the moment of their deadly outburst (Serial Killer Info Polls). The creation of this fantasy starts as a
child when the child is frequently left alone for long periods of time. This isolation bores the child and
they resort to their minds for company. We can all remember the days of imagining our knight in
shining armor coming to the rescue, or pretending to have immense strength, like the Incredible Hulk
or Superman, to help them escape from any situation. In the cases of serial killers this
fantasy/daydream world has been taken to an extreme. Masturbation begins during these fantasies and
contributes much to the

Working Men And Women For Countless Years Have Struggled
Working men and women for countless years have struggled to find the balance between succeeding
in their careers versus being an influential role in their children s life. Differing careers have enabled
various levels of success in being able to reach the epitome of parenthood and career ambitions. Anne
Marie Slaughter, author of Why Women Still Can t Have It All , and Richard Dorment, author of Why
Men Still Can t Have It All , attempt to depict how working parents make sacrifices that ultimately
lead to success in the workplace and as parents. I consider Richard Dorment more convincing in his
essay than Anne Marie Slaughter, because he provides compelling arguments about equality in
parenting, success in the workplace, and paternity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many parents have to make decisions about their careers based off of their unsupportive spouse. With
that many parents struggle to find a way to meet all of their goals and get all that they want
accomplished. Dorment also stresses the unrealistic pressure women put on themselves to be perfect.
He addresses these problems in rebuttal to Slaughter, who says that society has placed expectations on
women from the beginning. Slaughter s opinion about how society views women in power that leave
their job to be with their family as a euphemism for being fired (Slaughter 682). This is incredibly
wrong if a woman or man chooses to step down to be with their family it should not be so implausible
that they reason that they have been fired. However, society is not only to blame for the pressures
women feel to be perfect. According to Dorment women are too hard on themselves his prime
example being chores in his household. Personally, I agree with both authors to an extent woman are
both pressured by society, but also exceptionally hard on themselves. If women could learn to ignore
society and allow others to take on some of the household responsibilities sometimes maybe some of

In the midst of loneliness, abandonment, struggles and confusion, every person has a longing to find
comfort, peace and direction in their fragile state. Every human being desires a lasting joy and peace
and will grasp at some sort of means to suffice this longing. In search of relief for discomfort and
grief, some people turn to mind altering substances such as alcohol, illegal drugs and prescribed
medications as a solution. Others may allow their emotions to overtake them lashing out in physical
violence by destroying objects, hurting themselves or even harming other people to alleviate the

You can know for sure you will be in heaven when you die and the Bible says so in First John 5:13:
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know
that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God (Emphasis added). It
is so simple to trust Christ! Why would anyone want to gamble with their soul when God s plan of
salvation is so simple? All you need to do is acknowledge your sins, understand that they are
sentencing you to hell and turn from your sins to a loving God. Romans 10: 9 10 reveals it very
simply: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto

Ethical Consequences Of Non-Sexual Dual Relationships
This paper will discuss the concept of non sexual dual relationships between Ms. C and Ms. R., and
the ethical consequences of relationships. This paper will also an ethical standard to use a guide when

explore how ethical decisions must be made to avoid potentially harmful or exploitive relationships in

Social workers should not engage in dual or multiple relationships with clients or former clients in
which there is a risk of exploitation or potential harm to the client. In instances when dual or multiple

Examples Of Erotic Love In Plato s Symposium
Erotic Love in Symposium
In Plato s Symposium, Aristophanes and Alcibiades share a specific view on love, while Diotima and
Socrates share another. Aristophanes sees love as a pursuit of wholeness and ultimately the desire for
humans to be complete. Aristophanes explains the origins of how humans came to have two arms and
two legs as well as one sex organ. Humans used to be creatures who existed with eight limbs as well
as two sexual organs, however they were far too ambitious and had even made an attempt on the gods.
When this event occurred, Zeus and other gods met in council, and in their meeting, they came to the
conclusion to cut humans in half, to ensure they could still exist yet not be overly ambitious. Humans
have been on the pursuit to find their literal other half ever since separation. In other words, to find
their soulmate. Aristophanes believes that Love is born into every human being; it calls back the
halves of our original nature together; it tries to make one out of two and heal the wound of human
nature. (p.19) Thus, confirming human beings longing and need for soulmates. Love originates from
the same values, whether it be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates sees love as something that is in between being beautiful and ugly and believes that love is a
search for beauty and wisdom. Much like Diotima, Socrates presses Agathon to have him admit that
love is not beautiful as it desires beauty, and one does not desire what one already has therefore it is
not beautiful. Socrates view contrasts with that of Aristophanes from the benefits of love to the nature
of love, as Socrates sees no benefits in something that is not beautiful. Love is seen as primarily a
relational property by Socrates that holds between things rather than a desire or a need for another
person. Love is not itself beautiful or good or anything specific as much as it is a relation that holds
between the beautiful, the good, and those who

Tituba Salem Witch Trial
The Salem Witch Trials were a tragic event that echoed throughout history. Twenty lives were taken in
1691 and 1692. Over 150 others were accused and thrown in prison and even more have been haunted
by this hardship.
Although most of the cases for the Salem Witch Trials were fake, they could ve easily been prank that
went too far, or grudges against neighbors. Despite all of the rumors, there is one accusation that will
never be dropped. An Indian slave, Tituba. Tituba was the first to be accused of witchcraft in Salem

Scientists have looked at the Salem Witch Trials and have pondered what could have caused the

Virtual Field Trip To Chauvet Caves
After having a taste of this course during the first two weeks of the class, it was difficult for me to
leave due to pregnancy. I didn t wanna let go of it. The course outline enticed me, the virtual field trips
were fun and provided me with new learning. I was uncomfortable with the Flipgrid videos but it
helped me overcome my anxiety to be on camera. My first virtual field trip to Chauvet Caves gave me
goosebumps discovering those artifacts and analyzing what might be the message in those arts. The
development of communications fascinates me. Discovering that our present communities on social

Positive Homeopathy is considered one of the best homeopathic clinics in town. Homeopathetic

The Possibility Of Evil Short Story
We all like to look at things that appeal to us. But sometimes appearances can deceive us: such as a
good deal going online until you re ready to pay and they hit you with shipping and handling taxes and
therefore raising the price dramatically. Or a movie that has a good trailer but once you watch it as a
result the movie was not as good as it appeared to be. It s good to notice the bigger picture and to
analyze it in more depth, rather than judge it but it s first sight. The main characters in the short stories
Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl, The Possibility of Evil , by Shirley Jackson, could have
adapted from this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter Mrs. Maloney is this sweet, loving and caring wife
who loves her husband dearly, but once he came back from work he hit her with heartbreaking and
bad news: which sets her off. In The Possibility of Evil Miss Strangeworth appears to be this kind and
respected elderly lady, but behind close doors she is completely different. Just because we see
something to appear to be good doesn t mean that it can t reveal it s true colors in a blink of an eye. Or
that it could be the total opposite of your initial though. In both stories, the reader discovers that even
though something may appear to be one thing, it could turn out to be something completely different.
In The Possibility of Evil, Shirley Jackson gives us a character who may seem to be the town s most
respected and longest established resident, but who actually

Soft Skills In The Workplace
How often should you use soft skills? You should use soft skills every day. Soft skills are always
going to be used in different workplaces. Different types of soft skills to help a person will be
interpersonal skills, teamwork, and communication skills. First of all with soft skills you will always
deal with interpersonal skills. An interpersonal skill deals with communicating with people and
organizing for your environment and your own business. Problem solving has the ability to solve any
problem that you are having at work or at any place. Imagine everybody respecting each other at work
and being on time the whole week. Secondly, a soft skill also deals with teamwork because if you do
not have team work you will not be able to work with others. Employers like to have somebody that
will work well with others and help them. If you are a leader in everything that you do you can be a
mentor for someone. Teamwork is the best thing you can ever do because you can achieve goals.

Color and Mood
Overall, results indicate that the manipulation of the color of questionnaire had no effect on mood.
However, there was an effect of time of day on mood as well as an effect of gender on mood. The
results did not support the main hypothesis that different colors would elicit different moods. Thus,
this study found no support for the prediction that brighter colors would elicit positive moods, whereas
less bright colors would elicit negative moods. These results do not support past research findings that
brighter colors tend to elicit positive moods, whereas, dark colors elicit negative moods (Hemphill,
1996; Kaya Epps, 2004). Moreover, this result was not expected given the previously discussed
research by Weller and Livingston (1988) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They found that men tended to have higher scores than women on the Self assurance subscale in all
ten samples they examined, although this difference was small. Moreover, there does not appear to be
a clear reason that in our study men had higher scores than women on the surprise subscale.
Furthermore, the finding that men rated their moods higher on several subscales was intriguing, since
past research that examined the relationship between colors and emotions suggested that women were
emotionally oriented and reported more emotional responses to colors than men (Hemphill, 1996).
Furthermore, results did not support the hypothesis that the 1:00 PM class would have more positive
moods than the 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM classes; however, results did suggest that mood was affected by
the time of day. Nevertheless, only particular times were affected, for instance the 4:00 PM late
afternoon class had higher scores for the negative moods than the 8:00 AM class. Also, the 4:00 PM
class had higher scores on the shyness subscale than the 1:00 PM midday class. The results that the
late afternoon class had more negative mood than the midday appear to go against the current
literature given that the research suggests that Negative Affect does not fluctuate throughout the day
and is not related to the circadian rhythm (Murray et al., 2002). In contrast, Positive Affect appears to
be related to the circadian rhythm, tends to increase throughout the day until about 9pm, when PA

The Effects Of Sexual Content On Children s Programming
Sexual Content in Children s Programming Children s programming is beginning to raise a concern
among many parents due to sexual content being included along with other inappropriate scenes like
violence, offensive language or verbal abuse. In a news article by Cheryl Wetzstein, she reports that
one in ten parents agreed that there were a lot of good programs on for kids because all the programs
are portraying sexual content or violence instead of being educational to children (pg. 40). Due to the
recent technological advancements, children s media exposure has increased, causing more children to
be bombarded with shows featuring sexual innuendos, sexual activity or adult subtext. Not only is the
sexual content being included frequently in programming, children are facing the content in
advertisements as well. An example of this is the advertisement poster for The Lion King. The film
poster features the face of Simba in which many analyzers and parents are pointing out that between
the eyes and above the nose features an image that looks like the butt of a naked woman creating a
sexualized image some children could pick up on (Fyfe, 2006, pg. 8). Sexual content throughout
children s programming can have both positive and negative effects on the children watching. Many
children will become able to understand what is going on in the show or film causing questioning and
new thoughts or ideas about sexual activity While parents have a concern about sexual content being

  • 2. The Impact Of Privacy In Nigeria Before the British colonial invasion, Nigeria lived as autonomous commities, kingdoms and caliphates, where political, social and economic administrations were carried out independently. At the invasion, Nigeria became a British protectorate, part of the British Empire in 1901. However, for administrative purposes the protectorate was divided into the Southern and Northern Protectorates. In 1914 both protectorates were merged into a single colony known as Nigeria by the effort of Sir Fredrick Lugard. This amalgamation was with the intent to unite the people and culture of the Northern and Southern protectorates into a sovereign nation called Nigeria. However, the success of this 1914 amalgamation has been called to question given the ever widening gap in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The possibility of surveillance, whether direct or through access to records of speech, research and exploration, undermines a democratic society. Privacy, an Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights Protecting user privacy and confidentiality has long been an integral part of the mission of libraries. The ALA has affirmed a right to privacy since 1939. Rights to privacy and confidentiality also are implicit in the guarantee of free access to library resources for all users. Libraries advocate the rights of people to unfettered access to information (Okeke, Ibegbulam, Orakpor and Asom, 2013). Libraries are the focal point for people s inquiry into the physical and social phenomena of their environment as it serves as a social instrument, a learning centre and an open university for all classes of people. Nevertheless, for political consciousness and participation / participative citizenry, information literacy is essential. Libraries also serve as trusted providers of information literacy programmes to citizens required to spur their political consciousness and participation. 3.0 Roles of Libraries in Enhancing Federalism in ... • 3. Rhetorical Devices In 102 Minutes 102 Minutes Essay In 102 Minutes, the authors force the reader to absorb the significant toll that the events of 9 11 had on the families involved and people across America; also, Dwyer and Flynn seek to inform them of the errors in the design of the towers and decisions made by rescuers that preceded the catastrophic events that took place. The authors mention these facts and arguments to ensure the improvement of future architectural practices, prepare people for intense situations, and to personalize the tragedy that holds such an important place in our country s history. Through various rhetorical strategies, the writers appeal emotionally and analytically to their audience. The World Trade Center (WTC) held fairly high regard throughout New York as a structurally sound building, but the authors of 102 Minutes beg to differ on this opinion. They use various diagrams and statistics of the incredible impact and destruction the planes caused to the building, arguments against the poor architectural design and support of the towers, and periodic timestamps to make claims and factual statements about the events that occurred. The timestamps serve as a means of the authors building suspense in their audience, deepening uncertainty in the audience which intends to move them to read further and discover the office laborers fates. Moments like At 9:19... we re trapped... there s smoke coming in. I don t know what s happening (102 Minutes 186) and when Assistant Chief Callan stood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Restraint Essay Restraint Restraint is a major idea in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Restraint constantly influences the decisions people make. Kurtz s lack of restraint kills him, while Marlow s restraint saves and prevents him from becoming like Kurtz. Kurtz is a man who [kicks] himself loose of the earth (Conrad, 61). He does not have allegiance to anyone except to himself. Kurtz s absence of restraint exists because he holds a lusty power in an un civilized country. Restraint is affected by three factors; power, lust, and his surroundings. Kurtz s display of restraint is a prime example that exemplifies the affect of these three factors on restraint. Kurtz was not always the power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He discovers many villages and goes to them with thunder and lightning (Conrad, 51). He uses guns in order to frighten the natives. Through fear, the natives grew to worship Kurtz. He becomes leader of the villages; a deity. Unlike most foreigners, he does not have to adjust to his surroundings. Instead, the natives had to adapt to him. Kurtz exercises his power by conquering additional villages and even by executing people. Exterminate all the brutes (Conrad, 46)! Kurtz eliminates rebels who get in his way. He slices off their heads and then displays them outside of his house. This serves as a warning to his people to not betray him. In a sense, Kurtz is at the top of the food chain. He has great power and uses it without restraint to satisfy his desires. After raiding villages and obtaining followers, Kurtz becomes very power hungry. He enjoys having power; compiling ivory and having worshipers. He abuses his power without restraint. He has tried to return to the Central Station; however, his lust for power disables him from returning. Kurtz had apparently intended to return himself... but after coming three hundred miles, had suddenly decided to go back, which he started to do alone in a small dugout with four paddlers, leaving the half caste to continue down the river with the ivory. (Conrad, 28) Kurtz had come down to deliver his ivory, stopped, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Passion Of Reading Being able to read and write is arguably the most essential skill needed in life. I was able to begin mastering the skill of reading at a very young age and to some individuals it may become later in life because it seems boring to them. I did not have an interest in reading until I watched the movie Pearl Harbor the one with Ben Affleck in it. This movie created my passion of reading by learning about the second world war. Also, I read books to learn new information on material. I did not do it for any type of approval from someone contradictory to Cisneros who always wanted the approval of her father (102). At a young age, I never enjoyed reading because it seemed boring, pointless, and a waste of time, but when I started to read about World War II I started to read more and more articles and books whenever I had the opportunity. First, the second world war ignited the flame that started all the reading over the last nine years of my life. The first book that I read was With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa, this book was about the journal entries the author, Eugene Bondurant (E.B.) Sledge, kept inside of his pocket sized Bible. He carried the journal entries with him during the events he fought in at Okinawa and Peleliu. While reading the book there were many words that I did not understand or did not make sense with the context of the sentence. I was able to use a dictionary to look up the words and learn the words that previously had no meaning to me in any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Fort Worth Essay Drovers, people who herd large groups of cattle, heading up the Chisholm Trail toward the railroads the final stop for any last minute supplies was Fort Worth, Texas. Beyond that you d cross the Red River and into Indian Territory. During the years of 1866 and 1890, drovers herded over four million head of cattle through Fort Worth. The city soon became known as Cowtown. As the railroad arrived in 1876, Fort Worth developed into a shipping port for livestock, so the city built up the Union Stockyards. Despite the Union Stockyards lacking the essential funding to buy enough cattle to attract local ranchers, President Mike C. Hurley welcomed wealth Boston capitalist Greenleif Simpson into Fort Worth hoping he would find interest and invest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The northern and southern site would be given to either company and decided by a coin toss. In the end, Armour won the coin toss and chose the northern site; construction began in 1902. As for the Swift Co. the southern site had a large gravel pit that was very useful for the construction of their plant. They had such an abundance of gravel they even sold some of the gravel Armour at the northern site. In that same year, construction on the pens, barns, and also the new Livestock Exchange Building. The Livestock Exchange Building was home to many livestock companies, telegraph and railroad offices, and many support businesses. With Ft. Worth booming for all its latest success it was known as The Wall Street of the West. With a little background information on the Stockyards, we can see the evolution of the city of Fort Worth from where it was back in the 1860 s to now in 2017. The Stockyards were a valuable asset to the historical rise of Fort Worth and growing attention it has and still receives. Today, without destroying the architectural integrity of the original structure, The Fort Worth Stockyards offer visitors an exciting opportunity to experience the Old West in an authentic but modern setting. • 7. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Scenario Based Analysis 7.2 Strengths and Limitations and Further Research of the Study 7.2.1 Strengths The present research combined quantitative and qualitative research design. These approaches complemented each other and provided different perspectives for analysis, which in turn allows valid and reliable results. For instance, key informant interviews and expert communications contribute to the design of simulation scenarios. The quantitative analysis allows measurement of the impact of carbon payments using mathematical programming. Using econometric techniques, the willingness to participate in forest based carbon projects was analyzed, as well as farmers clearing decisions in the Amazon area. The qualitative approach allowed the inclusion of individual perceptions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The model constructed relies on own survey data and some statistical data from national and regional surveys. This data was used in parameterization and calibration activities. In the survey, heaping, a typical error in agricultural data, was presented (Beegle et al. 2012). Heaping is a special case of data coarsening where respondents round quantitative information (e.g. around one hectare may in reality be either 1.2 or 0.8 hectare). This could have an influence on the estimates of production functions, as happened with Schreinemachers (2006). Another problem was the farmers use local reference units and we lack conversion tables for those units. For instance, outputs of some crops such as plantain, cassava or fruits were reported in bunch or bags without specifying their weights in kg. In order to overcome this later problem, a conversion table was built during interviews, through asking members of the community with more education and also key experts. Information about fertilizer and pesticides was recorded by plot and not by crop, a problem mentioned in section 6.2.2.1.1. Externalities. In the study, carbon sequestration was the only positive externality accounted, but there are other ecosystem services that forest projects could enhance such as biodiversity, soil erosion control, and water regulation, among others. Incorporating these direct and indirect values into the analysis will provide a better picture for land use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analyzing Todd Burpo s Trip To Heaven Trip to Heaven... And Back If a survey was conducted about people s biggest fears thanatophobia would be on a list with arachnophobia, coulrophobia and apiphobia. Many religions have their own ideas on our final resting place . There are theories revolving around reincarnation, Heaven and Hell, one s own planet and many more. All of these fantasies have one thing in common: little to no scientific reasoning. There are stories occasionally that prove a theory but overall it is a bunch of he says, she says. This is until the biography Heaven is for Real. The author Todd Burpo does an incredible job narrating his son s story. Unlike some of the past fictional books and movies proving religious beliefs about the afterlife, Heaven is for Real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Todd Burpo does a remarkable job translating, three year old, Colton s descriptions of his trip to Heaven... and back. Another positive I found while reading the book Heaven is for Real is that I could not put it down. This was because chapters were short and they always left the reader at a cliff hanger. Burpo did a outstanding job keeping the reader engaged and wanting more by somehow creating cliffhangers after every chapter. Whether it was whether Colton was going to make it out of surgery or mid conversation about Colton s still born sister, Burpo made it impossible to not start the next chapter to find out the answer or details to the newest bomb Colton dropped on his parents. While some may be completely convinced by the innocence of the book, many skeptics (including myself) would say Heaven is for Real is to monotonous and predictable. All of Colton s experiences follows a pattern. He tells his father little detail out of the blue. His father experiences a gasp or feels his heart skip a beat. Then he quotes the bible with some piece of scripture that fits. Finally, Colton gets bored and runs off. This pattern is repeated through the entire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most common serial killers are white, heterosexual, sexually frustrated, young adult males with low self esteem. The top three most reported behaviors are daydreaming, compulsive masturbation, and isolation. Daydreaming seems like a healthy, normal phase in every child s life, but this behavior actually makes sense for serial killers. The reason is that one of the most important components to the creation of a serial killer is fantasy. The killings are usually part of a complicated fantasy that builds to a climax at the moment of their deadly outburst (Serial Killer Info Polls). The creation of this fantasy starts as a child when the child is frequently left alone for long periods of time. This isolation bores the child and they resort to their minds for company. Examples Of Erotic Love In Plato s Symposium Erotic Love in Symposium In Plato s Symposium, Aristophanes and Alcibiades share a specific view on love, while Diotima and Socrates share another. Aristophanes explains the origins of how humans came to have two arms and two legs as well as one sex organ. • 32. Color and Mood Overall, results indicate that the manipulation of the color of questionnaire had no effect on mood. However, there was an effect of time of day on mood as well as an effect of gender on mood. The results did not support the main hypothesis that different colors would elicit different moods. Thus, this study found no support for the prediction that brighter colors would elicit positive moods, whereas less bright colors would elicit negative moods. These results do not support past research findings that brighter colors tend to elicit positive moods, whereas, dark colors elicit negative moods (Hemphill, 1996; Kaya Epps, 2004). Moreover, this result was not expected given the previously discussed research by Weller and Livingston (1988) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They found that men tended to have higher scores than women on the Self assurance subscale in all ten samples they examined, although this difference was small. Moreover, there does not appear to be a clear reason that in our study men had higher scores than women on the surprise subscale. Furthermore, the finding that men rated their moods higher on several subscales was intriguing, since past research that examined the relationship between colors and emotions suggested that women were emotionally oriented and reported more emotional responses to colors than men (Hemphill, 1996). Furthermore, results did not support the hypothesis that the 1:00 PM class would have more positive moods than the 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM classes; however, results did suggest that mood was affected by the time of day. Nevertheless, only particular times were affected, for instance the 4:00 PM late afternoon class had higher scores for the negative moods than the 8:00 AM class. Also, the 4:00 PM class had higher scores on the shyness subscale than the 1:00 PM midday class. The results that the late afternoon class had more negative mood than the midday appear to go against the current literature given that the research suggests that Negative Affect does not fluctuate throughout the day and is not related to the circadian rhythm (Murray et al., 2002). In contrast, Positive Affect appears to be related to the circadian rhythm, tends to increase throughout the day until about 9pm, when PA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Steven Spielberg s Film Fury Mixed reviews over new film Fury which stars Brad Pitt playing an army sergeant named Wardaddy who leads his men on a mission to destroy as many Nazis as they can. Which seems like any other World War II movie out there Saving Private Ryan , Where Eagles Dare , and Kelly s Heroes are only a few of the other Nazi killing movies out there. Fury was another war film directed and written by David Ayer who is known for Training Day , End of Watch , and Sabotage he also likes to make his film relentless and brutal. I would have thought that Steven Spielberg would have been chosen to direct the film since he is more well known and considered one of the most influential film personalities out there. Spielberg is best known for Saving Private Ryan , Jurassic Park , and A.I. Artificial Intelligence . But instead we have the slow rolling plot cast by Ayer where the final battle takes up half the film. Ayer spent more time adding gruesome body parts to the battlefield then he did on developing a story. Which created two hours of boredom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. The Effects Of Sexual Content On Children s Programming Sexual Content in Children s Programming Children s programming is beginning to raise a concern among many parents due to sexual content being included along with other inappropriate scenes like violence, offensive language or verbal abuse. In a news article by Cheryl Wetzstein, she reports that one in ten parents agreed that there were a lot of good programs on for kids because all the programs are portraying sexual content or violence instead of being educational to children (pg. 40). Due to the recent technological advancements, children s media exposure has increased, causing more children to be bombarded with shows featuring sexual innuendos, sexual activity or adult subtext. Not only is the sexual content being included frequently in programming, children are facing the content in advertisements as well. An example of this is the advertisement poster for The Lion King. The film poster features the face of Simba in which many analyzers and parents are pointing out that between the eyes and above the nose features an image that looks like the butt of a naked woman creating a sexualized image some children could pick up on (Fyfe, 2006, pg. 8). Sexual content throughout children s programming can have both positive and negative effects on the children watching. Many children will become able to understand what is going on in the show or film causing questioning and new thoughts or ideas about sexual activity While parents have a concern about sexual content being ...
