Migrating 3000 users and 1100 applications from Lotus Notes to Office 365Arno Flapper
A large international customer decided to move into Microsoft Office 365. Their challenge is to migrate 3000+ users, 1100 applications and 100 Tb of file share data located in 50 locations and datacenters across Europe. With this migration all datacenters must be replaced by a central datacenter in The Netherlands using Office 365 and Azure within months. And we did it! A challenging project and a perfect showcase to demonstrate the do’s and don’ts when migrating to the several components of Office 365, i.e. Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business at the speed of light.
In this session we will demonstrate how we:
- Analyzed the on-premises installations
- Cleaned up the obsolete users and data
- Prepared the Office 365-tenant to host 3000 users and over 30 domains
- Set-up the AD FS-infrastructure in Windows Azure
- Migrated 3000 users, their mail domains and aliases
- Migrated the file shares to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online
- Migrated the applications to SharePoint Online and Azure
- The PowerShell workarounds we used to fix several incompatibility issues between Office 365 and the on-premises installations…and what not to do.

- Private channels in Microsoft Teams allow for focused private collaboration within a team. A private channel is a separate discussion space that is only visible to its members.
- Private channels inherit the team membership but allow creating a managed subset of members. They are limited to 30 channels per team and 250 members per channel.
- Files and conversations in private channels are stored separately from standard channels. Private channel files are stored in separate SharePoint site collections while conversations are stored in Exchange.
Version control software options include Subversion, Mercurial, and Team Foundation Server. Subversion and Mercurial use a centralized or distributed repository model, while TFS uses both. Mercurial scored highest overall due to its distributed model, flexible peer-to-peer sharing, and extensive support through add-ons. Subversion was next highest for its improved disk usage for large binaries compared to distributed systems and built-in merging tools. While TFS integrates best with other Microsoft tools, it requires additional software and does not support non-Microsoft platforms as well as the other options.

5th Power Grid Model Meet-up
It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:
-Insightful presentations covering two practical applications of the Power Grid Model.
-An update on the latest advancements in Power Grid -Model technology during the first and second quarters of 2024.
-An interactive brainstorming session to discuss and propose new feature requests.
-An opportunity to connect with fellow Power Grid Model enthusiasts and users.
