2. INTRODUCTION
 Rapid transit in India consists of bus, metro, monorail and light
rail systems. The first rapid transit system in India was the Kolkata Metro,
which started operations in 1984.
 The Delhi Metro was India's first modern metro and the third rapid transit
system in India overall, after the Kolkata Metro and Chennai Mass Rapid
Transit System (Chennai MRTS), beginning operations in 2002. Rapid
Metro Rail Gurgaon, which started operations in November 2013, is India's
first privately owned and operated metro.
 The Mumbai Monorail, which opened on 7 February 2014 is the first
monorail in India, since the closing of the Patiala State Monorail Train ways
in 1927.

4. DELHI METRO RAIL
 Delhi Metro is a metro system serving Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad in
the National Capital Region of India.
 Delhi Metro is the world's thirteenth largest metro system in terms of length.
 Delhi Metro is India's second urban mass rapid transportation system,
after Kolkata Metro.
 with a total length of 193.2 kilometres (120.0 mi), serving 139 stations,(including
the 6 Airport Express stations), of which 38 are underground, five are at-grade,
and the rest are elevated.
 All stations have escalators, elevators, and tactile tiles to guide the visually
impaired from station entrances to trains. It has a combination of elevated, at-
grade, and underground lines, and uses both broad gauge and standard
gauge rolling stock. Four types of rolling stock are used: Mitsubishi Rotem broad
gauge, Bombardier Movia, Mitsubishi Rotem standard gauge, and CAF
Beasain standard gauge.

6. KOLKATA METRO RAIL
 The Kolkata Metro or Calcutta Metro is a metro system serving the city
of Kolkata and the districts of South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas in the
Indian state of West Bengal.
 It is the first Underground metro railway system in India. The network consists
of one operational line (Line 1) and one under construction (Line 2), with four
further lines in various stages of planning.
 It was the first such form of transport in India, opening for commercial services
in 1984. It is the 17th zone of the Indian Railways system.

8. MUMBAI METRO RAIL
 The Mumbai Metro is a metro system serving the Indian city of Mumbai.
The system is designed to reduce traffic congestion in the city, and
supplement the existing, but severely overcrowded Mumbai Suburban
Railway network.
 It will be built in three phases over a 15-year period, with overall
completion expected in 2021. When complete, the core system will
comprise three high-capacity metro railway lines, spanning a total of 63
kilometres (39 mi). Line 1 of the Mumbai Metro is operated by Mumbai
Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL), a joint venture company formed by Reliance
Infrastructure, Veolia Transport and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region
Development Authority (MMRDA).
 In June 2006, the then Prime Minister of India, Manmohan
Singh inaugurated the first phase of the Mumbai Metro project.
Construction work began in February 2008.A successful trial run was
conducted in May 2013,and the system's first line entered operation on 8
June 2014, as some aspects of the project were afflicted by delays and cost
issues.

10. CHENNAI METRO RAIL
 The Chennai Metro Rail is a rapid transit system under construction
in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Phase I of the project, which consists of two
corridors covering a length of 45.1 km is under construction.
 The elevated section of the project is scheduled to be operational by mid
2014 and the entire project is scheduled to be completed by the financial
year 2014–2015. About 55% of the corridors in Phase I are underground
and the remaining corridors are elevated.
 Upon completion, Chennai Metro Rail would be the first metro project in
the country that will integrate other public transportation systems. The
project is expected to reduce the commuting time by 75 per cent from one
end of the city to another.

12. NAMMA METRO RAIL
 Namma Metro literally "Our Metro“ also known as Bangalore Metro, is
a metro system for the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The agency
responsible for its implementation is the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation
Ltd (BMRCL), a joint venture of the Government of India and
the Government of Karnataka. The first stretch (Reach 1) between
Baiyyappanahalli and M.G. Road was inaugurated on 20 October
2011. Reach 3 & 3A between Sampige Road and Peenya Industrial Area
was inaugurated on 1 March 2014.

14. METRO RAIL PROJECT IN VGTM-
VUDAAREA
 The VGTM Metro Rail is a rapid transit system under Planning
in Vijayawada- Guntur – Tenali - Mangalgiri, Andhra Pradesh, India. Phase
I of the project, which consists of two corridors covering a length of
250 km
 Here in this project, underground corridors wont be created due to
drainage and geotechnical properties of soil in this region and so all
corridors are elevated.
 VGTM Metro Rail would be the first metro project in the country that will
integrate other public transportation systems. The project is expected to
reduce the commuting time by 75 per cent from one end of the city to
another.

17. Conclusion:
 According to me ,we have to estimate and compare the metro rail project
cost and mono rail project cost
 Because Mono Rails are modern and updated technology
 There will run on bridge and consumes less energy with respect to metro
rail
