This document provides two methods for calculating seed rates for experiments: by plot and by row. The method for calculating by plot uses the formula of seed density per acre x plot size. An example is shown for a soybean experiment with a seed density of 150,000 seeds per acre and a plot size of 75 square feet, resulting in a seed rate of 259 seeds per plot. The method for calculating by row uses the formula of seed density per acre x row length x row spacing.
