Authentic Dialogue When it comes to communicating with people, I do not have a hard time.
Although, this past fall semester I was put to the test. There was a student in our Dialogue and
Personality class that was, difficult. This caused the dynamic in class to be very off putting and hard to

Although technology was not an option to Baca, he realized that words do not stem from the physical
world. Language does not come from books, formulas, or from a glowing white screen. With
technology thrown into the mix, communication can become anonymous, edited, and thought out
before it is written down/typed up. Written, typed, and texted communication skills are vastly different

button, it does not reinforce the skills that would allow them to catch those mistakes of their own

There are two types of displacement reactions : One type is called the single displacement reaction,
the other is called the double displacement reaction. During a single displacement reaction, an element
substitutes another element in a compound, creating a new element and a new compound as products.
In most single displacement reactions, either a metal replaces another metal, or a non metal replaces
another non metal. The more reactive element takes the place of the less reactive element in the

The Creation of Federal Laws in Australia The Commonwealth of Australia was created with the 1901
unification of six recently independent British colonies. All were solidified under the authorship of a
Constitution that same year which predicated the form of government and the legal orientation of the
new nation. (AG, p. 1) In doing so, it also vested the power to create federal laws in Australian
Parliament and, in one sense, gave it exclusive authority to do so. And in this sense, one might render
the interpretation that one advantage Australia has is that it has a written constitution which gives
nearly all the power to make laws for Australia to the Commonwealth Parliament. However, a more
complete understanding of the structure of Australian law suggests that this is a great understatement
and one which does not make full accounting for the roles played either by the states that are
confederated to make up Australia or by the judicial branch of the federal government. A consideration
of the roles played by Parliament, the states and the court systems reveals that in fact, while the power
to legislate laws is entrusted in Australian parliament, this entitlement is only possible through an
interdependence with these other dimensions of the government. First, it is appropriate to examine the

Although they are versions of the same play, the endings of Sophocles Antigone and Anne Carson s
Antigonick convey contrasting ideas of the power of fate, and its role in tragedy. In Antigone, fate is
described as an inevitable, insurmountable aspect of life that cannot be avoided. On the other hand,
Antigonick shows fate to be a malleable product which can be controlled by the decisions individuals
take in their lives. Through the role of the chorus, the addition of Nick, and the catharses of the
characters, Carson shows that fate is something which we can master. In both texts, the responsibility
of the chorus is to comment upon the play s proceedings, and to make key observations about the
characters actions. As Antigone is being paraded to her burial in Antigone, the chorus states, The
power of fate is a wonder,/ dark, terrible wonder / neither wealth nor armies/ towered walls nor ships/
black hulls lashed by the salt/ can save us from that force. (1045 1050) It emphasizes that fate is very
powerful, and that it is not within humans capacity to alter. Thus, Antigone and Creon are never
capable of influencing their own lives; they are not responsible for the tragedy that ensues, because
fate would have seen to it anyway. In contrast, the chorus in Antigonick says that it likes to find
precedents, pointing out that We re not at a loss how to think about this/ We re not without guidance.

methods and techniques to establish the dynamics of power on the ranch. In the first extract, George
and Lennie are in the brush and we get a strong sense of George s parental control over Lennie, but it
also shows how Lennie s physical stature gives him a degree of power over George. In extract two we
meet Curley for the first time, and his authority over the ranch workers is clearly asserted through the
various ways in which Steinbeck describes him. And finally, in extract three, we see the first fight of

looked down at the ground in despair which shows that he is ashamed and perhaps a little frightened
of George s reaction, but Steinbeck then goes on to say that George took responsibility for both of the
work cards, knowing that Lennie could not be trusted. This, again, demonstrates the balance of power
and shows that both George and Lennie are aware of how much power the other possesses.
After looking for his work card in his pocket, Lennie take out a mouse to which George replies
sharply.

questions, which gives Lennie the chance to demonstrate another type of power his cunning. He

keep the mouse? By attempting to deceive George. Eventually, George s patience wears thin and he
