Living In A Small Town Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Living in a Small Town" presents a unique set of challenges
and complexities. While the subject may seem straightforward, delving into the intricacies of
small-town life requires a thoughtful approach to capture the essence of the experience.
One of the difficulties lies in striking a balance between portraying the idyllic aspects of small-
town living and addressing potential drawbacks. It is essential to provide a nuanced perspective
that acknowledges both the charm and limitations of residing in a close-knit community. This
requires careful research and a keen understanding of the nuances associated with small-town
dynamics.
Furthermore, creating a compelling narrative that resonates with a diverse audience can be
challenging. The challenge is to make the essay relatable to readers who may have varying
experiences, from those who grew up in small towns to those unfamiliar with such environments.
Striking this balance is crucial to ensuring the essay remains engaging and accessible to a wide
range of readers.
Additionally, avoiding clichГ©s and stereotypes is paramount. It's easy to fall into the trap of
romanticizing or oversimplifying small-town life, neglecting the diversity and complexity
inherent in these communities. The essay should steer clear of generic narratives and strive to
offer a genuine and authentic portrayal.
Researching local perspectives and incorporating personal anecdotes or interviews can enhance
the authenticity of the essay, but it also adds a layer of intricacy. Ensuring accuracy and
respecting the diversity of experiences within small towns demands thorough investigation and a
commitment to presenting a well-rounded picture.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Living in a Small Town" demands a delicate
balance between capturing the charm of these communities and addressing the complexities that
come with them. It requires a thoughtful approach, careful research, and a commitment to
authenticity. For those who find these challenges daunting, it's worth noting that assistance is

Essay On The Iran Nuclear Deal
Of late, it seems as though one cannot turn on the news without hearing about the
threat of North Korea and its nuclear weapons. Indeed, the country has been
repeatedly testing their weapon capabilities, and this has made the rest of the world
quite nervous. Indeed, recent tests show that the North Korean missiles could reach
parts of the United States. The options for dealing with North Koreaappear quite
bleak, and President Trump s stance on the situation is unclear. Trump and Kim Jong
Un have traded insults over Twitter, and the situation seems certain to lead to a
catastrophic war. However, rather than rush into war, it may be prudent to examine
the recent nuclear diplomacy process with Iran, and see if similar negotiations could...

These sanctions were, at least in part, responsible for bringing Iran to the Geneva
conference to begin negotiations. These negotiations, which took place between Iran
and the members of the P5+1 comprised of the five permanent members of the UN
Security council, joined by Germany over the course of several years, resulted in the
Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July of 2015. The JCPOA would
entail lifting sanctions on Iran, in return for restrictions on the Iranian nuclear
program. The deal requires Iran to give up many of its centrifuge and much of its
uranium stockpile, while also limiting the level of uranium enrichment, and where
enrichment can occur. Furthermore, Iran agreed to allow inspectors from the
International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) to check the declared nuclear sites at
any time. Under the terms of the JCPOA, Iran is unlikely to be able to develop
weaponized nuclear technology, helping to head off nuclear competition in the
unstable Middle East, and, hopefully, preventing nuclear proliferation. Had a deal not
been struck, a weaponized nuclear program in Iran would have forced the Saudis to
develop nuclear weapons in response. It is important to note that, the nuclear deal
does not prohibit Iran from developing ballistic missiles, but the UN Security
Council resolution endorsing the deal called upon Iran to refrain from testing
ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons and
Analysis Of The Book A New Baby
On a brisk, fall day on Sunday October 25th, 1998 a new baby was born at 7:34 p.m.
at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. That 20 inch, 7 pound, 9 ounce baby was
Nicholas Jack Nagel. There are two reasons for the name my parents gave me. My
father Travis is a big golf fan and his favorite golfer of all time is Jack Nicklaus; he is
considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, with 18 majors, the most ever by
a professional golfer. My mother Marylou, on the other hand, loves Christmas and
liked the name Nicholas due to St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of
children and sailors. The name Nicholas is a Greek name that means victorious
people. Shockingly, it took only a few hours of labor for my arrival. My mom was as
calm as can be and didn t realize that she was going into labor. While my mom was in
labor, the rest of my familywatched the Denver Broncosdefeat the Jacksonville
Jaguars. My parents joke with me that I ve been a Broncos fan since I was even
born, which is true. All of my grandparents, three aunts, and three family friends
were at the hospital to greet me. After I was delivered at approximately 7:34 p.m. my
family passed around some It s a boy cigars. There were a lot of visitors that brought
gifts and outfits. My parents and I got to go home the night after I was born.
Grandma and Grandpa Nagel stayed for two days. My mom and dad were the first of
their friends to have a baby and they were very excited to welcome me to

Learning statement
Before taking this course I was not known to the fact that aboriginal people have
significant importance in Canada. This course seemed to be very interesting to me,
as it was totally new to me. It was not only interesting; it opened the gate way to
new information which I was never aware of before. I got to learn a lot of new and
interesting facts about the aboriginal people, which changed my perspective about
them, and increased my learning. With the passage of time I got to learn very
interesting facts about aboriginal people, their mixture, and culture and how they
civilized. I have got to know they their historical background still has an impact in

Case Of Failure Of The Data Nodes
case of failure of the data nodes, the name node knows which data node has failed
since that particular data node will not report back in time to the name node. The
name node also knows where the data that is supplied to the data node has gone
redundantly to the other data node. Therefore the job still goes to completion even
though a couple of data nodes fail in the big data processing. Since the Hadoop
MapReduce framework is master slave architecture there is a chance of single point
failure. The single point failure occurs when the name node itself fails. In that case
there is also a presence of secondary name node that place in the event of single point
failure.

The action rules discovery is done using the LERS algorithm.
Table 2 Decision System S Let s apply the LERS algorithm for the decision system
S in the table 2. In this example the attributes a, b, c are stable. The attributes e, f, g
are flexible and the d is decision attribute. We will get the action rules when the
decision attribute changes from d2 to d1.
Step 1: Extract all rules, which imply пѓ d1 that means we should have d1 on the
right hand side of the rule. This should be done using LERS algorithm.
Step 2: Generate r [d2 п‚® d1] r1 = [b1 пѓ™ c1 пѓ™ f2 пѓ™ g1] п‚® d1 r1 [d2 п‚®

The Wife s Lament Essay
The Wife s Lament
Over the years, there have been many interpretations of who the speaker of The
Wife s Lament could be. These range from very interesting ideas to ones that seem
a little rough around the edges. It is obvious that no sure answer can be found due
to the fact that whoever wrote this poem is dead and that the answer will always be
in speculation even if it is correct. Hopefully, at the end of this quest I will be
slightly more enlightened as to who the true speaker may really be.
There are some things that we do know about this poem. It is most often referred to
as an elegy because of the mood of mourning and regret. Upon further reading I
discovered that this poem is like others of its time period. Many ... Show more content

I have the right to say what miseries I have endured since I grew up, new or old
never greater than now. Even though this poem is relatively short, the vivid
expression of grief is somewhat awe inspiring.
The first interpretation of who the speaker is in The Wife s Lament is very shaky
and not well accepted among scholars and even the average reader. This
interpretation is that the speaker may be a male and not a female as we all believe. It
was very common in Anglo Saxon times for the lord of a group of people to be
more to them than a ruler. Very often he would become a close friend to his people
and they loved him like family. The relationship between lord and man was more than
just a business arrangement and although they were working for the lord, he was
respected much like a father figure would be. The problem with this interpretation is
that the grammatical gender is feminine. This is the reason why everyone assumes
that the speaker is a female. Supporters of this reading of The Wife s Lament
believe that somewhere along the line of translating the poem the translator made a
mistake and changed the gender of the speaker. As I have already said, this
interpretation is very rough around the edges and rather hard to believe. I believe
that if the speaker were male then there would be no real reason for his being exiled
in this fashion. It was not a custom for communities to allow foreigners in thus

Variable Speed Control Techniques For Single Phase Ac...
ABSTRACT
This work presents a variable speed control techniques for single phase ac motor. A
pulse width modulation (PWM) AC chopper changes the value of the supply voltage
applied to a single phase motor. The variable supply voltage gives better speed
control of motor. Harmonics generated by unit of speed control are filtered by an
input filter circuit. Experimental results would be in 230V and speed control of
single phase motor shows that PWM AC Chopper is simple and cost effective control
method compared to better control method to other methods in terms of simplicity
and input harmonic content. In this harmonics reduction techniques for designing a
Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) AC voltagecontroller is required. So that Total
current Harmonics Distortion (THDi), obtained for to be minimized. In the Main
Circuit we have used Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBTs) or MOSFET to
obtain output waveform as we shown theory of AC voltage controller with PWM
techniques. We will be used at the end of project with Microcontroller are
presented. We obtained results by the analysis of the AC single phase motor and
PWM AC chopper is derived and its behavior of the system is studied by simulation
using MATLAB and PROTEUS. The Mains power factor, motor speed, and current
are analyzed for different conditions as using many circuits via op amp, IC 555,
optocoupler and ARDUINO. Harmonics analysis of the motor voltage and current are
given and compared with phase control techniques.
Critical Reading And Critical Thinking
We can make the distinction between critical reading and critical thinking as follows
[1]:
Reading Criticism is a technique to discover ideas and information in a written text.
Thinking Senior is a technique for evaluating information and ideas, to decide to
accept and believe.
The Critical Reading refers to a careful, active, reflective and analytical reading.
Critical thinking involves thinking about the validity of what has been read in the
light of knowledge and understanding of the world that previously have.
Consider for example the following sentence in a way not without humor, taken from
a student essay:
Parents are buying expensive cars for their children destroyed
The way in which the terms are expressed in the above prayer, critical ... Show more

Critical thinking allows the reader to follow his understanding as you read. If you
notice that the text claims are ridiculous or irresponsible (critical thinking), which on
closer examination to test their own understanding (critical reading).
Conversely, critical thinking depends on critical reading. After all a person can
think critically about a text (critical thinking) only if you have understood it (critical
reading). You can choose to accept or reject a presentation, but you should know
why. You have a responsibility not just to himself but to others to identify the issues
or problems where you are or disagree. Only then can we understand and respect the
views of others. To recognize and understand those views should be able to read
critically.
UTILITY OF DISTINCTION
If the thinking and critical reading are so closely connected, why is useful to
distinguish?
What becomes useful to distinguish, is to remember that we read each text on its
own merits, without prior knowledge of the reader or the views that he may have to
be imposed. A time to be evaluated ideas while reading, you should also avoid
distorting the sense that contains the text. Do not allow the reader to force the text to
read what he d like to say, because that is not never learn anything
Differences Between Class And Wealth In What Americans
Had
Class, income, and wealth play a significant role in social stratification. In What
Americans Had.. Fischer explains the differences between social classes and the
inequalities the lower strata faces by providing data and graphs to corroborate his
argument. In addition, presents throughout the reading the differences of income
between the 1900s to 2000s. As well as the three features that helps explain the
inequality of standard of living. These three features are: wealth, income, and
consumption. Evidently, while observing the graphs, Fischer explains that after the
1960s, inequality became a trend that ultimately has led to become a norm if you are
in the lower scale of social structure. Furthermore, as with wealth, there are many

The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster And Its Effects On The
World
On April 26th, 1986, at 1:23 A.M., the world s worst nuclear disaster to date
occurred. It has affected millions of people in Eastern Europe, and it has caused
more than 360,000 people to evacuate their homes and leave their belongings
behind. It has also set a dangerous precedent to the safety and operating procedures
of other nuclear power plants around the world. Thirty years later, people in
Eastern Europe are still feeling the effects of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The causes, the effects on animals and the environment, and the effects on humans
of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster are still being debated by scientists today. The
causes of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster involve the analysis of views, design
deficiencies, operator errors, and the cleanup of the disaster. When the accident
happened, there were many different views and ideas of what happened. One idea
was that there was damage to the cooling system, and too much pressure built up in
the shell of the reactor, causing the hydrogen that was leaving and the air that
coming in to mix and cause the explosion ( Causes and Impact 18). The other view
on the accident, was human error due to tests and experiments ( Causes and Impact
18). It was determined that it was the operator s errors and the design of the reactor,
which had a safety features, which caused the disaster ( Causes and Impact 17). The
Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant used a different design compared to other nuclear
plants around the world.
Personal Statement In Confucianism
I am an American born Taiwanese. I was taught by my father of the heart of the
Confucianism. In my life, I always help people. Following the instructions from
my grandparents, I spread kindness around the world. In college, I participated an
after school activity: Recycling and Waste Management(RWM). During 3 weeks, I
rouse from sleep at 5:30 on weekends, rode a scooter to the Buddhist Tzu Chi
Medical Foundation(BTCMF) and Endured the terrible odor from 150 tons of
garbage. With a brief period, I put Aluminum cans, glass, metal cans, plastic, metal,
and bottles in the different storage system. In addition, I organize the garbage, build
a system of the volunteer work, and group a team a team includes the elders and my
friends, providing a successful volunteer power to the program RWM. With only 3
hours, our team organize 15 tons of trash and won an invitation to a wonderful
vegetarian feast in BTCMF. With our efforts, BTCMF consequently becomes a
community that people worship. Notwithstanding feeling exhaustive, I found myself

supervision was not accurate. I thought collaborative supervision was one size fits

considering how I can be of service to others. Maturity is a good way to define this
stage. My professional life however I feel like I have a mix of the Extending and
Maturing stages. I have been in this field for over 40 years. My experiences as a

sensitive to other people s situations, and acquired skills to do my job effectively. I
feel I not only recognize my strengths and challenges but I can identify the
strengths of those I work with. This was not always the case. I can remember a
time when I was newly hired as a lead teacher and I would misinterpret or misread a
situation without truly getting to know the teacher s perspective. I know appreciate

The Illusion Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
The Illusion of the American Dream
If you don t get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don t want, you
suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can t
hold on to it forever. is a quote written by Dan Millman. It explains the reality of the
image we have in our minds of what we truly want and no matter what differences
we have, we all suffer through the illusions we have called dreams. Ideally, In The
Great Gatsby, by F.Scott Fitzgerald, the American Dream is the idea of an illusion
because the more you achieve, the more you desire, making your dreams unattainable.
The American Dream is one of the primary topics in the novel, but is not an
achievable platform for most to all of the characters. ... Show more content on

To start off, Gatsby s dream made him do extraordinary schemes like bootlegging
to achieve high financial status. This is shown when Gatsby mentions to Tom
about inheriting money, Oh, I ve been in several things, he corrected himself. I
was in the drug business and then I was in the oil business. But I m not in either
one now . (Fitzgerald, 87) This quote shows us that Gatsby had wanted his dream
so bad that he involved himself with illegal situations to earn the money. Moving
on, it corrupted the characters inner selves. The characters were very greedy and
only cared for themselves. A saying We get a little greedy, and want more than we
need describes Tom and Daisy because they had already had everything they
needed, but they only wanted more and they knew they couldn t find love since
Tom kept had affairs and they had a daughter to take care of. Not only that, but Tom
and Daisy corrupt lives of other characters like Gatsby. He was not involved in the
incident with Myrtle, but Daisy being her selfish, self puts the burden on him which
corrupts his life and their own lives. Lastly, Myrtle just like Gatsby does wrong
doings to lead to her American Dream. An article by Kurapati states, She thinks that
by associating with Tom Buchanan, and buying expensive things for her apartment,
she is rising in class. A

Knee Pain Research Paper
Knee pain is intolerable and perhaps the only way to get rid of this pain
permanently is by opting for a knee surgery, meniscus knee surgery or arthroscopic
knee surgery. About six hundred thousand people all over the world undergo knee
surgery every year and about ninety percent of these people feel that their life has
become better after the surgerybecause they can move normally without feeling any
painin their knees. However, this alternative is found to have helped a lot of people
all over the world and they are now living a life free from kneepain. There are some
people who wonder whether it is actually effective in giving them a life free from
knee pain because they are not very sure whether it works.
While some people can treat their knee pain with medications and exercises, there
are also people who have tried these techniques of treatment and they did not work

very normal to have blood transfusions at the time of the knee surgery, your surgeon

It is not easy to live with knee pain forever because there will come a day when you

Patrick Bateman In American Psycho
In the movie American Psycho, Patrick Bateman perpetrates numerous murders
with no justified reasoning. Bateman makes a living as a young, wealthy executive
who works on Wall Street. He lives life by dining at voguish restaurants, while
managing appearances for his fiancГ©e. His social group tends to consist of
associates with the same occupation as his him and his wellbeing. What his
associates and no one else knows about him is his hidden life as a serial killer.
Bateman often boasted about his extravagant lifestyle. His appearance will trick one
to believe he is a character that he really isn t. The wealthier people are, the more
society values them. Bateman displays many cultural functions during the terrifying
film. Being wealthy and working on Wall Street induces the feeling of being
unassailable. Bateman s killings were perpetrated due to enviousness and
embarrassment. He murdered numerous people in gruesome acts. These murders
made visible the actions of the male gender whenever they are frustrated. No matter
how many times King Arthur killed the ogre of Mount Saint Michael, the monster
reappeared in another heroic chronicle, bequeathing the Middle Ages an abundance

are carried out by alpha males. The power of men can rarely be showcased by

monsters generally: they are disturbing hybrids whose externally incoherent bodies
resist attempts to include them in any systematic structuration (Cohen 107). The
aggression of men categorizes them differently than women because men possess
more power and their opinion matter more than
Personal Statement For GP Practitioner
I m interested in the medical field; cardiology and/or a General GP practitioner. A
cardiologist is a doctor with special training in the act of finding, treating as well as
preventing diseases associated with the heart and or blood vessels. A GP is a
general practitioner who does not specialise in a particular area in medicine. General
Practitioners provide routine health care and assessment of illnesses and injuries.
I ve always had an interest in studying medicine as is gives a diverse opportunity
for careers in the future. I m considering working with medicine as it allows me to
work and interact with other people as this is something I enjoy as this is an aspect
and value I go by is helping people to achieve a greater/healthier population. I have
a great deal of patience and an understanding towards vulnerable social groups, as
empathy is a good quality to have to provide patient satisfaction as this comes
naturally to me. The joy of helping people directly is another influence. I have
excellent teamwork skills this is another skill needed for the medical field as you will

How the Philippine Gov. Measure Its Gdp and Gnp
GDP and GNP as economic indicators
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross National Product (GNP) are key figures in
accessing the status of a country s economy. These numbers are also used to gauge
the competency of the administration in steering the economic wheels of the country.
By definition:
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the total market value of a country s output. It is
the market value of all final goods and services produced within a given period of
time by factors of production within a country.
Gross National Product (GNP) is the total market value of all final goods and
services produced within a given period by factors of production owned by a country

Abstract
The United States Postal Service is one of the nations most thriving companies. It has
over 600,000+ employees and is the second largest civilian employer in the United
States. (DeHaven, 2010). While it is one of the countries most thriving businesses it
is not void of faults. To prevent the employees from being mistreated, most post office
branches create unions. The unions not only protect those who take advantage of the
membership but the other employees of the United States Postal Service (USPS) as
well. This paper maps out the many benefits to being in the American ... Show more

At the point that the certain branch of the USPS s union is certified the employer, the
federal government, would then be legally required to negotiate with the union, in
good faith, a legally binding contract covering all of the aspects of employment.
(Office Professional Employees International Union, 2011)
Like anything, with time comes changes and at some point employees might feel as
if the contract they have should be amended and at that point the negotiation process
starts. The APWU would, at this point, begin the negotiation process. To start the
union would create a Contract Action Committee (CAC) filled with active members.
The CAC would then gather key information about things the members want to
amend and plan a contract campaign. This campaign should be created with the intent
to apply pressure to the employer. Once the campaign has started a bargaining team
should be formed and trained. This team will work close with the CAC and negotiate
the contract with the employer. The team will gather information from the union
members and begin to lay negotiation round rules to schedule out the location and
time of negations. They will also arrange leave for the union negotiators. After the
guidelines have been set the next step in the negotiation process is to form a strategy.
In this process, the bargaining team should describe the planned proposal, explain
how it works, describe the problem that is
Secure Data Center
The Secure Data Center In today s world, data and access to that data are vital. The
speed and growth of technology have increased the uses and development of data
centers all over the world. Medical data is one such type of data that is pushing the
growth of these kinds of facilities. As increasingly organizations that provided
medical care move into the uses of digital medical records, the need for medical
data centers increases. In fact, some predicted that over the next five years, this need
would increase significantly (Jones, 2012). This paper is about building a physical
security data center for medical data collected and used by a United States Agency.
The Customer
While a part of the American Armed Forces, this agency provides medical services
and maintains records separately from the Department of Defenses. They utilize this
data to track and monitor the health of their almost forty thousand members, who
must be ready for worldwide deployments (Cummings, Mueller, Quan, 2011). They
have many small medical facilities all over the U.S., and medical date must safely
store and accessible always. The agency must be able to know the location of the
information while their members are deploying out of the country and around the
U.S. This is important to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This place is chosen for a couple of different reasons. Primarily is that the agency
already has a data center located in the area nearby, that manages pay and personal
records (U.S. Coast Guard Pay and Personnel Center, in press). Since this data
center is already located in the area and has been for many years, we know the
location works well for the access of the agency information. It also provides local
support, and an alternate way to communicate with all should the new records data
center have communication issues. There is also a large military Army base nearby
that provides support to the agency and the families of

their are many, but they all can be mainly put into seven subcategories:

the same concept. Reality television in the 20th century is very popular. People are
so drawn to these shows because they show people a version of their own reality.
Documentary/ docu series in reality television are not really documentaries, they
act as they would be one but in a series. The difference between documentaries and

the shows that get and follow a certain family. If they are famous or have a lot of

Bel Canto Summary
The title of the book that I read was Bel Canto. Bel Canto was written by Ann
Patchett, and published in 2001. The setting of this work of literature is known to be
in South America; however, the country within the continent is unknown. One theme,
that can be drawn from this work is that a one of the most basic human impulses is
civilizing with other humans. Many people believe that if a group of people were in
captivity, then they would immediately resort to violence and trying to dominate each
other. However, Bel Canto suggest that, if put in that same situation, that the human
impulse would not be violence, but that our first impulse would be to civilize with
one another.
One important but minor character is Mr. Messner. Mr. Messner is the Swiss
representative for the Red Cross, to be the hostage negotiator. The terrorist end up
liking Messner, so he is the only person, in the book, that is allowed to come and go
from the mansion. Being that voice of reason from the outside, is Messner s main
job, because even though he is in the mansion throughout the months, he can still see
the situation objectively. In the last chapter, Messner becomes more of an important
character by giving the readers more sense of urgency, when he keeps reminding the
terrorist that a negotiation needs to happen or else their dystopian society will be
ruined. At the end, Messner was right when many of the terrorist, and Mr. Hosokawa,
were shot and killed. As stated in the first paragraph, the
Pi s Lifeboat
In the novel, The Life of Pi, by Yann Martel, the lifeboat is a transformative image
that alters and somewhat controls which path Pi goes down. Throughout the novel,
the meaning of the lifeboat transforms. At first, the lifeboat acts as a zoo/ prison. It
is the vessel from which Pi cannot escape, the object that he cannot run from. He
has no freedom on this boat, and if he leaves, certain death is inevitable. However,
as the storyline progresses, the boat becomes more of a saving grace. In the end,
when Pi arrives on land, it is the boat that carried him for 227 days and the only
reason he lived to tell the tale. Without the lifeboat, he would have died on the
Tsimtsum with the rest of his family on the day of the shipwreck. The symbolic
meaning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While on the raft, he says that, I started thinking seriously about how I was going to
deal with Richard Parker... I needed safe access to the locker and the top of the
tarpaulin, no matter the time of day or the weather, no matter his mood. It was rights
I needed, the sort of rights that come with might. It was time to impose myself and
carve out my territory. (202)
His need for the supplies on the lifeboat are what cause him to decide to try and
train Richard Parker. Without his need for the lifeboat, he never would have chose
to do something so dangerous and with such low odds of succeeding. Later on
while training the tiger, Pi says my behavior was not an act of insanity or a covert
suicide attempt, but a simple necessity. Either I tamed him, made him see who was
Number One and who was Number Two or I died the day I wanted to climb aboard
the lifeboat during rough weather and he objected (206). He reinforces the idea
that to train Richard Parker is a necessity and that his need for the boat overwhelms
his fear or the tiger. Later on in the same instance during Pi s training of the tiger,
he tells of how the wild animal would make a point by knocking him off of the boat
with one swipe of it s paw. He describes his retaliation by saying, Then I made my
point, feet on the gunnel, boat rolling, my single note language blasting from the
whistle, and Richard Parker moaning and gasping

stressful working environment, many corporations fail to keep employees due to

Countless specialist are in acceptance that all these factors create disoriented and
unmotivated employees that affect the corporation overall targets and higher

up with different tactics to reconcile employees problems and to enhance company
behavior by examining out the employee who does not fit the peculiar company
culture, and specific job based on attraction and knowledge instead of traditional
approach. These initiatives are very beneficial in elevating the employee s complete
job fulfillment, which in return lowers the nonappearance and employees turnover,
thus improving the corporation in improving its services and products.

Introduction
The purpose of this assignment is to find an example of prejudice and explain how
classical conditioning influences your opinions on it. Generally, these opinions are
negative and it is often very difficult to make these conditioned responses, back to a
neutral response due to person experience. The topic we chose is flying in an
airplane and how all the negative attention airplanes have gotten in the past 15 years
has significantly influenced peoples depictions of flying.
Classical Conditioning vs. Prejudice
The theory of classical conditioning can explain the origins of prejudice because:
General:
Prejudice by classical conditioning is based on personal experiences or something
that you have learned from/been taught. This creates a response either in a negative
/positive way and heavily influences on whether you are for/against the topic or item.
Fear is generally classically conditioned; our response to our fear would be in a

The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling Essay
The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling
The term the glass ceiling first came into use in 1986 when two Wall Street Journal
reporters coined the phrase to describe the invisible barrier that blocks women from
the top jobs in corporate America. (Glass Ceiling Commission, Successful Initiatives
). Since then the metaphor has also been applied to the barriers of minorities. The
Glass Ceiling Effect has been around for approximately 50 years. In my opinion it is
on its way out the door. Corporate Officers and Senior Management are noticing the
merits of women and minorities and doing something about it.
The glass ceiling, in its simplest form, is the theory that women and minorities do not

The 1964 Act prohibits employers, unions, and employment agencies from
discriminating against job applicants and employees on the basis of race, sex, age,
handicap, religion, or national origin. The law prohibits discrimination in hiring,
firing, discipline, compensation, and other conditions of employment. (Reader s
Digest, Know Your Rights ,1997). The Civil Rights Actof 1964 is the backbone of
efforts to eliminate employment discrimination. (Glass Ceiling Commission.
Enforcement Techniques , 1993). The Act allows victims of discrimination in the
workplace to privately litigate claims. The Act started the advancement of women
and minorities in the workplace. Until this point women were in the workforce
steadily, but not advancing. Minorities were also present, but almost never in
positions of visibility. Women and minorities in senior management were almost
unheard of. Employers are now forced to review and revise policy and procedures for
hiring and promoting within their respective companies. They are now accountable to
the government and liable to the employee in the event of discriminatory behavior.
At this time and since then, several agencies have been organized to enforce the Act
and prohibit discrimination. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission came
into effect to enforce antidiscrimination laws. The EEOC investigates allegations of
bias, negotiates agreements after charges are filed, and occasionally goes to
The s First Appearance On The Show Meyer Lansky
In his first appearance on the show Meyer Lansky gives a very earnst and well
worded but fake business proposal, forces someone to shake his hand (and thus
acknowledge him) and muses on the future importance of the petrol industry, all of
which allow for a good character defining moment. His main motivation and driving
force through out the series is his own ambition to gain money, power and respect.
While it s not not hard to connect this ambition to a childhood of poverty and ethnic
oppression, it goes even deeper than that: in 1931 Lansky has achieved more than he
could have dreamed of as a child and yet still looks to take even more Atlantic City,
the Commission, etc. etc. There s an undercurrent of nothing is enough with Meyer

professionalism is present even in Meyer s personal relationships his friendship
with Charlie Luciano is somewhat unique, as the gangsters generally tend to stick

would beat him up. After a few days of this Charlie asked him to join his gang and
they have been partners in crime ever since. During the show Meyer is generally

there is no denying his intelligence and keen sense of business. He is methodical and
meticulous in his approach to crime, keeping track of every action (sales, purchase,
murder, bribery..) in a neat little notebook. He researches his
Implementing Advertising Regulations Negatively Affect
The US
One fact that the opposition neglects to take into account is that implementing
advertising regulations would negatively affect the U.S. economy. The first important
thing to understand is what the economy is; a thriving economy is a virtuous circle in
which growth equals more job openings and higher wages as companies sell more
products. Furthermore, the advertisingregulations that already stand have prevented
further expansion of the economy and costs the United States in the end. An issue
of the Journal of Economic Growth written by John Dawson from Appalachian
State University and John Seater from North Carolina State University detailed
that advertising regulations have reduced economic growth by about 2 percent
per year between 1949 and 2005 (McLaughlin). These regulations are set in place
by the Federal Trade Commission and include rules concerning health, the
environment and advertising to children ( Advertising and Marketing ). Moreover,
if federal regulations were currently at the levels of that of 1949, the current GDP
would be $38.8 trillion higher (McLaughlin). GDP, or gross domestic product, is the
measure of a total dollar value of goods and services produced over a certain period
of time (Investopedia Staff). Likewise, America would have been able to sell 38.8
trillion dollars worth more of services and products if the... Show more content on

Generating Creative Ideas for Business Through...
Before starting a business, entrepreneurs need to take and use the methods to generate
creative ideas for product to be marketed and test new ideas. The methods are the
focus group method, brainstorming, brainwriting and problem inventory analysis.
These methods are best suitable for an organization that needs expansion in products
or services
First is focus group method, focus group is defined as a group of individuals
providing information in a structured format. A moderator leads the group of about 8
to 14 participants through an open, in depth discussion rather than simply asking
questions to solicit participants responses. The group is stimulated by comments
from other group members in creatively conceptualizing and developing a new ...

Brainwriting is an alternative method to brainstorming that tries to encourage a
more uniform participation within a group. Like brainstorming, it is designed to
generate lots and lots of ideas in a short amount of time. This is method more to
writing to convey new ideas for products. It also takes place in groups where each
group member will write their ideas over time.
This method has three rules that must be followed, namely the need to write or carry
forward cycle contributed three ideas in 5 minutes should be written in the form
brainwriting then give it to the next member. This is more of a discussion circle
forward the idea of each member. Next rules is following that members read every
idea that was written to serve as an inspiration to be create creative idea, if there is an
idea written on the same form barinwriting, finally, this method requires 6
participants sit together and helped by a moderator.
Lastly is problem inventory analysis method, problem inventory analysis is a
method of obtaining new ideas and solutions by focusing on problems for certain
product categories, customers usually given a list of known problems for a
particular product category and then asked to identify and discuss the products in a
category with specific problems. This will be more effective because it is much
easier to relate to products that have been identified problem proposed and obtained a

Power And Potency Of Groups
Leadership Observations In order to be effective, group leaders must be aware of
the power and potency of groups. The leaders in Restore were sensitive to group
members and where they were in the process. This same consideration was
displayed in our class; a good balance of sensitivity and gentle challenge to be
involved in the process. It was evident in Restore which facilitators were the better
equipped, more passionate and skilled. They were confident and utilized their skills
to assist members to find real healing. Restore is a thoughtfully planned out fully
fleshed out program. I felt most of the facilitators displayed the potential to combine

Universality This serves to assist in removing the feeling of I am the only one
going through this. Certainly in Restore that was displayed as even a visitor
seemed relieved when the speaker testified to her need to feel accepted by
everyone. In our class it was displayed when we could look at each other in the
group and realize most of us were on the same level playing field. This was
validated when our class realized we were all feeling awkward at times and
reluctant to speak or offer observations. I suspect that the relief that one feels just
being in a group of people openly admitting they are flawed (or untrained, in our
case) can bring some measure of comfort with self, or at least the situation. Altruism
Even the person that has low self esteem can feel uplifted and more worthy in
themselves when they are offering help. Giving to another whose situation is
similar, as one who has found coping strategies or skills that has led to their healing
or betterment. In Restore this is done really well. I saw more seasoned attendees
reaching back for those who were just beginning the journey. Throughout the
introductory testimony/teaching, as well as the open group there was a sense of the
facilitators enjoying offering helpful information and insights. Thus supporting this
altruism factor. For our class, as well, I could see confidence in what and how built
over the semesters as we shared and formed a greater sense of community
The Northern Ireland Marching Season
The Northern Ireland Marching Season
The marching season is where the Protestants of Ireland celebrate William of
Orange s victory in the Battle of the Boyne by marching through Northern Ireland
via some Catholic areas. These marches take place in July of every year and are
usually peaceful. But sometimes they are violent. There are a number of possible
reasons why there is a tension between the two communities over the marches, for
example land, religion, politics, history and social division.
During the 16th century, James 1st and England started to take a closer interest in
Ireland. They feared Ireland because they thought that they could become a threat to
their own power. This was mainly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But when the civil war in England had finished, Cromwell was eager to regain
control of Ireland. So he sent over soldiers from England to control Ireland again.
He restored control of Ireland between 1649 50 but was ruthless. As a punishment
for the rebellion, he ordered his soldiers to slaughter all people, soldiers and
civilians, in Drogheda and Wexford. Also, the Catholics involved in the rebellion
had there land taken off them and were forced to live in poor lands. Many of these
people died of hunger and disease. This was the start of Catholic hatred towards the
English rule and towards Protestants.
The next big event to happen was the Battle of the Boyne in 1690. The marching
season commemorates the Protestant victory over Catholics at the Battle of the
Boyne, so this event lives long in both Catholics and Protestants memory. That is why
this battle is one of the main contributors to why there is still tension over the
marches.
The Battle of the Boyne symbolises protestant ascendancy . It was the first time that
the Protestants stood up for themselves against the Catholics. The Battle of the
Boyne was a fight between two people and two religions. It was William of Orange
from the Netherlands against James II. James became king of England in 1685 but
was expelled from the throne in 1688. Instead of leaving quietly and forgetting about
England, he

Privatization In The United States
Privatization is the act of transferring ownership of a specified property or business
operations from a government organization to the hands of a privately owned entity.
This as well includes the transition of ownership from a public company to a private

The Two Sides of Uranium Essay
Introduction In today s day and age many people around the world have become
dependent on what seems like useless or needless things such as the internet and
television. This is one of the negative effects of science and the technology that
comes with it. Some of these technologies seem harmless, like cellphones and
computers, but it seems as the years progress people want more and more power,
literally and figuratively. The element uraniumis a perfect example; this element has
the power to do well in generating power for millions of people, and the power to do
wrong in nuclear warfare. The earth is made up of roughly 111 elements and
combinations thereof, but only around 90 of the elements occur naturally. In 1789

This is why uranium is so popular within the higher ups of countries, especially the
military.
It is not until recently that people have become dependent on this element, and not
necessarily for the good of it, and the world. There is an obsession with uranium
because of its unique properties. Uranium is extremely powerful because of its
radioactive properties and unstable nuclei, especially that of Uranium 235. It is able
to break down and release high frequency radiation through alpha and beta decay. It
is because of these characteristics that Uranium has such a craze on the population of
the world (Cox, 1995; Scerri, 2007). The properties of uranium allow people to
create powerful plants to produce electricity, and weapons strong enough to destroy
the world.
Nuclear Reactors Nuclear reactors were not originally built for electric purposes. In
fact, when these reactors were first built, their sole purpose was for research, and the
creation of the element plutonium which was to be used in nuclear warfare (Cox,
1995). Thankfully times have changed, to a certain extent, and the nuclear reactors
are used for electrical purposes, and other powering supplies only (Cox, 1995).
Nuclear reactors can be found world wide especially in France, as well as in Japan.

As far as the violence is concerned, The Passion was very gruesome and disturbing
to watch at some points. Some people think it is too much to see someone getting
their skin ripped off with metal claws but I think it was a necessary part of the
ordeal to which Christ was subjected and it brings home the enormity of what
happened. Other films made his crucifixion out to be a graceful and peaceful death
almost leaving out the fact that he was nearly flogged to death before even touching
his cross.
This is not the type of film where you can complain about the story line or say you
didn t like the ending, but you do come with an expectation of how you would like
them to portray the story. For me I was more than satisfied with how they did it but
some more religious people might not like the way little things were changed from
the Bible. In The Passion when Judas Iscariot hung himself he didn t say he was
sorry to god but we could see that he regretted doing what he did and we knew he
was sorry. Gibson also
Stimulants Against Peds
The Ultimate Price for Glory The sports world is filled with endless competition with
everyone trying to be the absolute best, so is greatness worth risking their own life?
With the constant push from coaches, family members, fans, and even themselves, it
is no wonder that athletes sometimes experiment with performance enhancers. There
are many different types of Performance Enhancing Drugs, and each kind has
different effects on the human body. There are many different categories of
Performance Enhancing Drugs, a few include; Anabolic steroids which unnaturally
build muscle at a much more rapid rate, Stimulants which can improve athletic
performance and endurance while decreasing fatigue, and Painkillers which can allow
an athlete to perform... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An article by the name of The Doping Dilemma , by Michael Shermer gives a table
that illustrates the many side effects that come along with each performance
enhancing drug. For instance, a PED that enhances oxygen transfer will have side
effects that include; blood clots, heart attack, stroke, and a PED that aids in the
build of muscle and bone can cause; liver damage, breast development in men, and
attitude changes (Shermer). Both categories of PED s are only a few of the
different kinds of drugs, this means that this is only a fraction of the side effects that
are related to the use of PED s. On the online article, Adverse Health Consequences
of Performance Enhancing Drugs: An Endocrine Society Scientific Statement , the
authors indicate Users of high doses of AAS may be more susceptible to rage,
antisocial and violent behaviors, and suicidality. Sharing of needles and other
paraphernalia and unprotected sex may increase the risk of infections such as
hepatitis and HIV. The use of PEDs, especially in conjunction with analgesics or
stimulants, may allow athletes to engage in extremely high intensity exercise,
increasing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. (Pope). The exact truth and not only
physical, but mental health issues that are associated with the abuse of performance
enhancing drugs are a real occurrence in all of
The Abortion For A Minor
Support legislation and opposition Relating to notice of and consent to an abortion
for a minor. Abortion for minors is a major public health concern in the United
States. There are more than 300,000 births to teens each year, increasing the risk of
both the mother and the baby s health. Abortions on minors have raised political,
clinical, social, and economic awareness. In order to make effective changes to
abortionfor the minor one must produce empirical evidence, to evaluate policy
options for persons involved in public health policy and legislation. In January 2000,
Texas enacted a law requiring physicians to notify the parent before an abortion is
done with a minor, or notifies at least one parent of the intent to terminate the... Show

The only way for minors to seek abortion without involving their parents is to
petition for a judicial bypass, from the courts. Most States are now being applying
the parental involvement of one or more parent to be notified or consent before a
minor daughter legally has an abortion. Some states require one of two types of
parental involvement, which involves notifying one or both Parent. So far about 38
states now required some type of parental involvement in a minor s decision to
have an abortion. Out of these 38 states, 21 of the states require one or both parents
to give consent to the procedure, 12 require one or both parents be notified and 5
require both consent and notification before an elective abortion can occur. Three of
these require both parents to consent. The parental involvement laws from the Court
have clarified the legal position on abortion regulation making it difficult for a
female goes for an abortion. (Guttmacher, 2013). In Texas, the parental notification
and consent laws had an effect on birth and abortion rates for minors with
notification laws reducing birth and abortion rate with the 16 17 year old females.
There is a decline in teen pregnancy in the United States with ongoing attempts in the
prevention through public policy and initiatives. Today about thirty nine states
Glaucoma Case Study
Glaucoma is an optic neuropathy that can cause visual dysfunction. The first line
treatment for open angle glaucoma is prostaglandin analogs or beta adrenergic
antagonists. These agents decrease intraocular pressure. Lumigan, a prostaglandin
analog that works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through the trabecular
meshwork and uveoscleral routes.1 Cosopt is a combination product that contains
dorzolamide and timolol. Its mechanism of action is by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase
II which lowers bicarbonate ion formation. This leads to a decrease of sodium and
fluid transport therefore decreasing aqueous humor secretion.2 The beta blocker
effect of timolol on intraocular pressure is unknown. These agents may also be used
for ocular hypertension.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This data was consistent throughout all visits until the third month visit where the
reduction was a 1.8 mmHg difference ( Lumigan 6.8, Cosopt 5.0, p≤0.001)3.
The only statistical significant mean intraocular pressure reduction at the 10 AM
visit was during week 1 (Lumigan 6.9 mmHg, Cosopt 5.1 mmHg, p≤0.001)3.
Lumigan and Cosopot were not able to control intraocular pressure throughout the
day. More patients in the Lumigan group reached their target intraocular pressure
of less than or equal to 13 16 mmHg by the third month 8 AM visit than the Cosopt
group (p≤0.008)3. Lumigan was shown to be statistically superior to Cosopt in
the differences of intraocular pressure during the final visit s measurements at 8

time which environmental toxins seem to remain or linger. According to Litoff

remembers the original settlement 15 years ago. But now the mother of two
young children says she thinks her family s health problems have been caused by

Exams to obtain these certifications are various and challenging. Although self paced
training classes are offered, real classroom experience is almost essential to being
successful in obtaining these certifications. Experienced certified instructors focus on
the important material and offer on the job examples to help any student understand
the material in order to pass the examinations.
Vendor Neutral Certification
While specific vendor certifications are most sought after, there are several beginner
certifications developed by CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry
Association. Technical schools, some high schools, and self paced training courses
offer these courses. The usual starting certifications include A+, Network+, and
Internet+ (p. 28). The A+ certification is for personal computer technicians working
with hardware and software troubleshooting. The Network+ certification covers
networking basics. Internet+ offers training on different aspects of the World Wide
Web such as e mail and web page design. Most entry level tech support positions
require at least one or more of these certifications.
SALARY EXPECTATION
The network administrator is a very important position in any company and, as such,
is well reimbursed financially. However, according to an article titled Career

The Defense Budget Should Increase Military Spending
To spend or not to spend, that is the question. America is torn, not sure whether it
should increase military spending or if it should considerably slash the budget.
Advocates for a higher defense budget claim more spending will lead to a stronger,
better trained military, which would in turn help secure our status as the superlative
militarypower of the world. However, supporters of the defense budget cuts argue
for a reduction in troop size, which they believe would save the country billions and
allow the nation to focus those savings on next generation technology for protection.
This argument has raged for decades with no solution in sight. Maybe we have been
approaching this problem all wrong. Perhaps, instead of the shortsighted approach of
either raise or lower the budget, we try a smarter, more efficient method of spending
to ensure every dollar of our annual military budgetpositively impacts our national
defense. The debate whether to raise or lower the defense budget has plagued this
nation for generations with many sides expressing their viewpoints on the matter.
Though there are no doubt countless points of views, two main camps come to the
forefront: either rise or lower the budget. These two opposing camps are often broad
enough to encompass most other ideas on the debate whether for or against it,
leaving outliers little room at the proverbial table in which to make their case.
Proponents for a fiscal increase range far and wide with perhaps the most

piano to your new residence, here are some questions to ask any prospective piano
movers: How is the piano going to be moved? Not all piano moving services are
created equal. Some regular moving services may claim that they can move pianos,
but will simply treat it as another large piece of furniture. However, a piano is a
delicate instrument and not simply a large piece of furniture. While your
grandmother s armoire may be able to stand being jostled about, this same treatment
could severely impact your piano and result in costly repairs. A good piano mover

Universal Symbolism in Things Fall Apart Essay
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a novel written to highlight the intriguing
lives and misconceptions that are often identified with African culture. Achebe
writes Things Fall Apart from the African view, a foreign perspective that sees
westerners as the outsiders and Africans as the insiders. Focusing on a clan in
lower Nigeria, Achebe profiles the clash of cultures that erupts when white
Christians colonize and spread their religious ideals. Achebe is able to make his
book so popular to the entire world because of his expert use of symbols like drums,
locusts, and fire. These common symbols in which drums represent the beat of all
civilization, locusts represent invasion by an outsider, and fire represents destruction,
all aid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the novel progresses and focuses more on Okonkwo s exile, and the Europeans
arrival, drums are used less frequently. This reduction symbolizes the loss of culture
that Umuofia gradually experiences due to outside forces. Because drums are
universally known for celebration and culture, Achebe uses this symbol to better
connect with his readers and to establish his story on humanity. While drums
represent the culture of the African clan, Achebe also begins to incorporate the
symbol of locusts, which represent the white men coming. Achebe commonly uses
the symbol of locusts to represent and foreshadow the white men coming, and the
clash of opposing cultures that takes place. When the locusts arrive in Umuofia the
entire clan is full of joy because locusts are delicious to eat, however bad for the
crops. Though they arrived after the harvest season had ended, this positive and
negative parallel represents the same questions that are asked when colonizers
arrive to the society. When the locusts first arrive in Umuofia, Achebe explains, the
locusts did descend. They settled on every tree on every blade of grass; they settled
on the roofs and covered the bare ground. Mighty tree branches broke away under
them (129). The repetition of
Tension In Monkey s Paw
In the story, Monkey s Paw , the author shows mystery and tension. The paw is a
dried, mummified monkey s paw that had a spell put on it. The spell allowed you
to have three wishes, but the wishes would not always happen the way you would
expect. The first part of the story unfolds at the White s house. The author W.W.
Jacobs tells each story with a bit of mystery and tension. For example, Jacobs
opens the scene with the wind howling and blowing against the house. This causes
the reader to expect mystery because it gives an eerie vibe. Jacobs writes, As I
wished it twisted around in my hand. , gave the reader a sense of mystery. It also
leaves questions unanswered, like Why did it move? or Did it really move? Jacobs
creates a lot of mystery and tension throughout the whole story.... Show more content

For example, Herbert joked around about the 200 pounds his father wished for,
which then in turn foreshadows what happens next. A strange man was pacing next
to their gate deciding whether or not to go in, which made tension for what would
happen. The man got the courage to go into the gate and knock on the door. He told
the White s Herbert died, but there was a compensation for his death. How much?
said the father. Two hundred pounds , was the answer. The couple screamed in
horror because they wished with the monkey s paw for that money. This, of course,
creates tension. The White s never knew that in wishing for money they would have
to give up their son in
Converting ° Fahrenheit And Fahrenheit
Converting В°Fahrenheit to В°Celsius and visa versa
The freezing point of water in Fahrenheit is 32 degrees, in Celsius it is 0 degrees.
The boiling point of water in Fahrenheit is 212 degrees, in Celsius it is 100 degrees.
Consequently the difference between freezing and boiling is 180 degrees Fahrenheit
(212 32) or 100 degrees Celsius (100 0). This means that 180 degrees change in
Fahrenheit is equal to 100 degree change in Celsius, or more simply 1.8 degrees
Fahrenheit equals 1.0 degrees Celsius.
This gives rise to the following equations to convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit:
В°C = (В°F 32) Г· 1.8For example: (68В°F 32) Г· 1.8 = (36) Г· 1.8 = 20В°C
В°F = (В°C x 1.8) + 32For example: (20В°C x 1.8) + 32 = (36) + 32 = 68В°F ...

Setting a Table
Setting a table is almost as important as the food you prepared for the meal. A neat,
interesting, clean and attractive table setting makes any meal more enjoyable.
What goes where on the table and which glasses go with what drinks?
Let s look at the following guide on how to set the table:
STEP 1
Select the tablecloth.
You can choose any tablecloth, but make sure that the linen patterns do not clash with
the china (crockery) patterns. If the crockery is patterned, choose a plain tablecloth.
For using plain, single coloured crockery, a patterned tablecloth is fine.
When setting the table for a formal dinner white or ivory tablecloths are more
appropriate.
Select the right size of tablecloth.
How to select the correct size and shape of tablecloth:
Tablecloths come in square, round, oblong (rectangle), and oval.
An oblong tablecloth is designed to fit a rectangle table with square corners. An oval
tablecloth fits an egg shaped table.
The icons below show the various shapes as labelled on most packages.
SQUAREROUNDOBLONGOVAL
To determine the proper Tablecloth size:
Determine the width and length dimensions of your table. The desired drop is:
10 12 inches to lap level
15 inches for standard banquet tables 29 30 inches to the floor
Once you have these dimensions, to determine the cloth size, add the drop times 2 to
each dimension of your table.
Example:
If the table size is 30x72
Satire in Gulliver s Travels Jonathan Swift Essay
Satire in Gulliver s Travels Jonathan Swift
In Gulliver s Travels, Jonathan Swift makes a satirical attack on humanity. In the final
book, Swift takes a stab at humanity by simultaneously criticizing physiological,
mental, and spiritual aspects of humans. Literary critics Ronald Knowles and Irvin
Ehrenpreis both agree that the last book focused entirely on satirizing humanity. The
Yahoo brutes that inhabit HouyhnhnmLand are a despicable species that have the
physical appearance of humans. Though their behavior seems to be decadent and
irrational, Swift shows that most of their behavior have parallels in the life of
civilized humans. The Houyhnhnms seem to embody virtue and all the perfections
that humans seek, but there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowles points out that Yahoos fight with other groups and each other without
apparent reason. Their avarice for certain shiny stones of no practical use lead to more
fighting and theft. In more contemporary or civilized societies, those shiny stones can
be paralleled to material possessions such as jewelry. Knowles observes that like
humans, Yahoos suck the juice from a particular root that produces the same affect as
alcohol. Similar to many humans, the Yahoos consumed the juices without
temperance. Ehrenpreis thinks that Swift uses the Yahoos to as an example of Locke
s suggestion that humans are more easily identified by vice than virtue. The
Houyhnhnms seem to be reasonable, rational characters. They also seem to embody
good virtues that humans strive to achieve. Ehrenpreis and Knowles both find
inconsistencies in the depiction of Houyhnhnms. Ehrenpreis believes that the
paradoxes in the writing are supposed to reflect paradoxes of human thought. When
Gulliver first meets the inhabitants of Houyhnhnm Land, they are curious about the
covering on his body. The Houyhnhnms are surprised when they first see him take off
his hat; It is a reasonable and natural reaction since the Houyhnhnms do not wear
clothing. Ehrenpreis argues that repeated occurrences show that Houyhnhnm thought
revolves around being a horse. He thinks that is reflective of the anthropocentricity of
humans. An example of the anthropocentricity of humans is the attempt
The Bible in Relation to Slavery Essay
The Bible is the best selling book of all time, and with good reason. For the stories
written in it have changed the way many think and even believe when it comes to
the power greater than this world. The Bible holds very specific opinions on things
such as slavery, who humans should treat each other, and ultimately social justice.
It has been one of the most important foundations for allowing social reform to
occur in modern day history as well as the history of the whole world. However, it
is forgotten in history class how prominent the ancient texts have changed the
people. When looking at the history, it is discovered to be the strength of great

It has set the tone forever on how we should treat and help people who are forced
into labor and servitude. The first acknowledgement to make is that of the
midwives of the Hebrews. They can be the considered one of the first peoples to
stand up before a power greater than them and act in a way of silent dignity. But the
midwives feared God; they did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, they let
the children live. (The New Oxford Annotated Bible 4th Ed., Exodus 1.17). In The
Gifts of the Jews, Thomas Cahill clearly explains that their decision to not follow the
Pharaoh makes them ultimately more worthy than the mighty king who rules over
them. The instance that is being discussed is before Moses and Ramses. When a
pharaoh thought he should place the execution of Hebrew slaves in the hands of
the Hebrew midwives. They are people of stature real individuals who are worthy
of names, unlike the little god king (Cahill, 99). This is a powerful message to
remember when looking at the people of history who have been the leaders of
abolishing slavery. The slave owners remain nameless, but Abraham Lincoln will
be forever remembered for his acts. The two midwives in their act to let the
newborn children live can be considered an example for all future movements
towards the resolution to end slavery, or even to stand up simply for what is wrong.
Their act is small compared to the entire telling of the book of exodus, but if society

  • 1. Living In A Small Town Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Living in a Small Town" presents a unique set of challenges and complexities. While the subject may seem straightforward, delving into the intricacies of small-town life requires a thoughtful approach to capture the essence of the experience. One of the difficulties lies in striking a balance between portraying the idyllic aspects of small- town living and addressing potential drawbacks. It is essential to provide a nuanced perspective that acknowledges both the charm and limitations of residing in a close-knit community. This requires careful research and a keen understanding of the nuances associated with small-town dynamics. Furthermore, creating a compelling narrative that resonates with a diverse audience can be challenging. The challenge is to make the essay relatable to readers who may have varying experiences, from those who grew up in small towns to those unfamiliar with such environments. Striking this balance is crucial to ensuring the essay remains engaging and accessible to a wide range of readers. Additionally, avoiding clichГ©s and stereotypes is paramount. It's easy to fall into the trap of romanticizing or oversimplifying small-town life, neglecting the diversity and complexity inherent in these communities. The essay should steer clear of generic narratives and strive to offer a genuine and authentic portrayal. Researching local perspectives and incorporating personal anecdotes or interviews can enhance the authenticity of the essay, but it also adds a layer of intricacy. • 2. Essay On The Iran Nuclear Deal Of late, it seems as though one cannot turn on the news without hearing about the threat of North Korea and its nuclear weapons. Indeed, the country has been repeatedly testing their weapon capabilities, and this has made the rest of the world quite nervous. Indeed, recent tests show that the North Korean missiles could reach parts of the United States. The options for dealing with North Koreaappear quite bleak, and President Trump s stance on the situation is unclear. Trump and Kim Jong Un have traded insults over Twitter, and the situation seems certain to lead to a catastrophic war. However, rather than rush into war, it may be prudent to examine the recent nuclear diplomacy process with Iran, and see if similar negotiations could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These sanctions were, at least in part, responsible for bringing Iran to the Geneva conference to begin negotiations. These negotiations, which took place between Iran and the members of the P5+1 comprised of the five permanent members of the UN Security council, joined by Germany over the course of several years, resulted in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July of 2015. The JCPOA would entail lifting sanctions on Iran, in return for restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program. The deal requires Iran to give up many of its centrifuge and much of its uranium stockpile, while also limiting the level of uranium enrichment, and where enrichment can occur. Furthermore, Iran agreed to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) to check the declared nuclear sites at any time. Under the terms of the JCPOA, Iran is unlikely to be able to develop weaponized nuclear technology, helping to head off nuclear competition in the unstable Middle East, and, hopefully, preventing nuclear proliferation. Had a deal not been struck, a weaponized nuclear program in Iran would have forced the Saudis to develop nuclear weapons in response. It is important to note that, the nuclear deal does not prohibit Iran from developing ballistic missiles, but the UN Security Council resolution endorsing the deal called upon Iran to refrain from testing ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons and

  • 5. Case Of Failure Of The Data Nodes case of failure of the data nodes, the name node knows which data node has failed since that particular data node will not report back in time to the name node. The name node also knows where the data that is supplied to the data node has gone redundantly to the other data node. Therefore the job still goes to completion even though a couple of data nodes fail in the big data processing. Since the Hadoop MapReduce framework is master slave architecture there is a chance of single point failure. The single point failure occurs when the name node itself fails. In that case there is also a presence of secondary name node that place in the event of single point failure. Figure 1 MapReduce Working IV.METHODOLOGY/ALGORITHM . • 6. The Wife s Lament Essay The Wife s Lament Over the years, there have been many interpretations of who the speaker of The Wife s Lament could be. These range from very interesting ideas to ones that seem a little rough around the edges. It is obvious that no sure answer can be found due to the fact that whoever wrote this poem is dead and that the answer will always be in speculation even if it is correct. Hopefully, at the end of this quest I will be slightly more enlightened as to who the true speaker may really be. There are some things that we do know about this poem. It is most often referred to as an elegy because of the mood of mourning and regret. Upon further reading I discovered that this poem is like others of its time period. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have the right to say what miseries I have endured since I grew up, new or old never greater than now. Even though this poem is relatively short, the vivid expression of grief is somewhat awe inspiring. The first interpretation of who the speaker is in The Wife s Lament is very shaky and not well accepted among scholars and even the average reader. This interpretation is that the speaker may be a male and not a female as we all believe. It was very common in Anglo Saxon times for the lord of a group of people to be more to them than a ruler. Very often he would become a close friend to his people and they loved him like family. The relationship between lord and man was more than just a business arrangement and although they were working for the lord, he was respected much like a father figure would be. The problem with this interpretation is that the grammatical gender is feminine. This is the reason why everyone assumes that the speaker is a female. Supporters of this reading of The Wife s Lament believe that somewhere along the line of translating the poem the translator made a mistake and changed the gender of the speaker. As I have already said, this interpretation is very rough around the edges and rather hard to believe. I believe that if the speaker were male then there would be no real reason for his being exiled in this fashion. It was not a custom for communities to allow foreigners in thus falsifying
  • 7. Variable Speed Control Techniques For Single Phase Ac... ABSTRACT This work presents a variable speed control techniques for single phase ac motor. A pulse width modulation (PWM) AC chopper changes the value of the supply voltage applied to a single phase motor. The variable supply voltage gives better speed control of motor. Harmonics generated by unit of speed control are filtered by an input filter circuit. Experimental results would be in 230V and speed control of single phase motor shows that PWM AC Chopper is simple and cost effective control method compared to better control method to other methods in terms of simplicity and input harmonic content. In this harmonics reduction techniques for designing a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) AC voltagecontroller is required. So that Total current Harmonics Distortion (THDi), obtained for to be minimized. In the Main Circuit we have used Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBTs) or MOSFET to obtain output waveform as we shown theory of AC voltage controller with PWM techniques. We will be used at the end of project with Microcontroller are presented. We obtained results by the analysis of the AC single phase motor and PWM AC chopper is derived and its behavior of the system is studied by simulation using MATLAB and PROTEUS. The Mains power factor, motor speed, and current are analyzed for different conditions as using many circuits via op amp, IC 555, optocoupler and ARDUINO. Harmonics analysis of the motor voltage and current are given and compared with phase control techniques.
  • 8. Critical Reading And Critical Thinking We can make the distinction between critical reading and critical thinking as follows [1]: Reading Criticism is a technique to discover ideas and information in a written text. Thinking Senior is a technique for evaluating information and ideas, to decide to accept and believe. The Critical Reading refers to a careful, active, reflective and analytical reading. Critical thinking involves thinking about the validity of what has been read in the light of knowledge and understanding of the world that previously have. Consider for example the following sentence in a way not without humor, taken from a student essay: Parents are buying expensive cars for their children destroyed The way in which the terms are expressed in the above prayer, critical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critical thinking allows the reader to follow his understanding as you read. If you notice that the text claims are ridiculous or irresponsible (critical thinking), which on closer examination to test their own understanding (critical reading). Conversely, critical thinking depends on critical reading. After all a person can think critically about a text (critical thinking) only if you have understood it (critical reading). You can choose to accept or reject a presentation, but you should know why. You have a responsibility not just to himself but to others to identify the issues or problems where you are or disagree. Only then can we understand and respect the views of others. To recognize and understand those views should be able to read critically. UTILITY OF DISTINCTION If the thinking and critical reading are so closely connected, why is useful to distinguish? What becomes useful to distinguish, is to remember that we read each text on its own merits, without prior knowledge of the reader or the views that he may have to be imposed. A time to be evaluated ideas while reading, you should also avoid distorting the sense that contains the text. Do not allow the reader to force the text to read what he d like to say, because that is not never learn anything

Thirty years later, people in Eastern Europe are still feeling the effects of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The causes, the effects on animals and the environment, and the effects on humans of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster are still being debated by scientists today. The causes of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster involve the analysis of views, design deficiencies, operator errors, and the cleanup of the disaster. When the accident happened, there were many different views and ideas of what happened. One idea was that there was damage to the cooling system, and too much pressure built up in the shell of the reactor, causing the hydrogen that was leaving and the air that coming in to mix and cause the explosion ( Causes and Impact 18). The other view on the accident, was human error due to tests and experiments ( Causes and Impact 18). It was determined that it was the operator s errors and the design of the reactor, which had a safety features, which caused the disaster ( Causes and Impact 17). The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant used a different design compared to other nuclear plants around the world.

The setting of this work of literature is known to be in South America; however, the country within the continent is unknown. One theme, that can be drawn from this work is that a one of the most basic human impulses is civilizing with other humans. Many people believe that if a group of people were in captivity, then they would immediately resort to violence and trying to dominate each other. However, Bel Canto suggest that, if put in that same situation, that the human impulse would not be violence, but that our first impulse would be to civilize with one another. One important but minor character is Mr. Messner. Mr. Messner is the Swiss representative for the Red Cross, to be the hostage negotiator. Being that voice of reason from the outside, is Messner s main job, because even though he is in the mansion throughout the months, he can still see the situation objectively. In the last chapter, Messner becomes more of an important character by giving the readers more sense of urgency, when he keeps reminding the terrorist that a negotiation needs to happen or else their dystopian society will be ruined. At the end, Messner was right when many of the terrorist, and Mr. Hosokawa, were shot and killed. As stated in the first paragraph, the

It was time to impose myself and carve out my territory. (202) His need for the supplies on the lifeboat are what cause him to decide to try and train Richard Parker. Without his need for the lifeboat, he never would have chose to do something so dangerous and with such low odds of succeeding. Later on while training the tiger, Pi says my behavior was not an act of insanity or a covert suicide attempt, but a simple necessity. Either I tamed him, made him see who was Number One and who was Number Two or I died the day I wanted to climb aboard the lifeboat during rough weather and he objected (206). Later on in the same instance during Pi s training of the tiger, he tells of how the wild animal would make a point by knocking him off of the boat with one swipe of it s paw. In fact, when these reactors were first built, their sole purpose was for research, and the creation of the element plutonium which was to be used in nuclear warfare (Cox, 1995). Thankfully times have changed, to a certain extent, and the nuclear reactors are used for electrical purposes, and other powering supplies only (Cox, 1995). Released in 2004, directed by Mel Gibson and filmed in the ancient Aramaic language, `The Passion focuses mainly on the death of Christ and shows us the full extent as to what he suffered to save mankind. Before seeing The Passion of the Christ I hadn t heard much about it except that it was very violent and politically incorrect. In fact I hadn t seen or heard a review that said if it was good or bad or if it was well acted or if it was worth the watch. Everyone just seemed to be interested in saying that it is too violent, the movie should not have been made and Mel Gibson shouldn t be making money from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is definitely something in this film for everyone. Even if you can t bear to watch the violence, which is so predominant throughout the movie, there is a lot of emotion, action and even horror that will keep any audience gripped. In this film Gibson uses the devil in the form of a person and he shows us how man is tempted by evil which results in jumps and frights better than most horror films out these days. As far as the violence is concerned, The Passion was very gruesome and disturbing to watch at some points. Some people think it is too much to see someone getting their skin ripped off with metal claws but I think it was a necessary part of the ordeal to which Christ was subjected and it brings home the enormity of what happened. Other films made his crucifixion out to be a graceful and peaceful death almost leaving out the fact that he was nearly flogged to death before even touching his cross. This is not the type of film where you can complain about the story line or say you didn t like the ending, but you do come with an expectation of how you would like them to portray the story. For me I was more than satisfied with how they did it but some more religious people might not like the way little things were changed from the Bible. In The Passion when Judas Iscariot hung himself he didn t say he was sorry to god but we could see that he regretted doing what he did and we knew he was sorry. Gibson also

America is torn, not sure whether it should increase military spending or if it should considerably slash the budget. Advocates for a higher defense budget claim more spending will lead to a stronger, better trained military, which would in turn help secure our status as the superlative militarypower of the world. However, supporters of the defense budget cuts argue for a reduction in troop size, which they believe would save the country billions and allow the nation to focus those savings on next generation technology for protection. This argument has raged for decades with no solution in sight. Maybe we have been approaching this problem all wrong. Perhaps, instead of the shortsighted approach of either raise or lower the budget, we try a smarter, more efficient method of spending to ensure every dollar of our annual military budgetpositively impacts our national defense. The debate whether to raise or lower the defense budget has plagued this nation for generations with many sides expressing their viewpoints on the matter. Though there are no doubt countless points of views, two main camps come to the forefront: either rise or lower the budget. These two opposing camps are often broad enough to encompass most other ideas on the debate whether for or against it, leaving outliers little room at the proverbial table in which to make their case. Focusing on a clan in lower Nigeria, Achebe profiles the clash of cultures that erupts when white Christians colonize and spread their religious ideals. This reduction symbolizes the loss of culture that Umuofia gradually experiences due to outside forces. While drums represent the culture of the African clan, Achebe also begins to incorporate the symbol of locusts, which represent the white men coming. Achebe commonly uses the symbol of locusts to represent and foreshadow the white men coming, and the clash of opposing cultures that takes place. When the locusts arrive in Umuofia the entire clan is full of joy because locusts are delicious to eat, however bad for the crops. Though they arrived after the harvest season had ended, this positive and negative parallel represents the same questions that are asked when colonizers arrive to the society. • 50. Converting ° Fahrenheit And Fahrenheit Converting В°Fahrenheit to В°Celsius and visa versa The freezing point of water in Fahrenheit is 32 degrees, in Celsius it is 0 degrees. The boiling point of water in Fahrenheit is 212 degrees, in Celsius it is 100 degrees. Consequently the difference between freezing and boiling is 180 degrees Fahrenheit (212 32) or 100 degrees Celsius (100 0). This means that 180 degrees change in Fahrenheit is equal to 100 degree change in Celsius, or more simply 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit equals 1.0 degrees Celsius. This gives rise to the following equations to convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit: В°C = (В°F 32) Г· 1.8For example: (68В°F 32) Г· 1.8 = (36) Г· 1.8 = 20В°C В°F = (В°C x 1.8) + 32For example: (20В°C x 1.8) + 32 = (36) + 32 = 68В°F ... Knowles observes that like humans, Yahoos suck the juice from a particular root that produces the same affect as alcohol. Similar to many humans, the Yahoos consumed the juices without temperance. The first acknowledgement to make is that of the midwives of the Hebrews. They can be the considered one of the first peoples to stand up before a power greater than them and act in a way of silent dignity. But the midwives feared God; they did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, they let the children live. (The New Oxford Annotated Bible 4th Ed., Exodus 1.17). In The Gifts of the Jews, Thomas Cahill clearly explains that their decision to not follow the Pharaoh makes them ultimately more worthy than the mighty king who rules over them. The instance that is being discussed is before Moses and Ramses. When a pharaoh thought he should place the execution of Hebrew slaves in the hands of the Hebrew midwives. They are people of stature real individuals who are worthy of names, unlike the little god king (Cahill, 99). This is a powerful message to remember when looking at the people of history who have been the leaders of abolishing slavery. The slave owners remain nameless, but Abraham Lincoln will be forever remembered for his acts. The two midwives in their act to let the newborn children live can be considered an example for all future movements towards the resolution to end slavery, or even to stand up simply for what is wrong. Their act is small compared to the entire telling of the book of exodus, but if society has shown
