Sacred Object In Religion
How does this sacred object as a material reality, make connections between the lived experiences of
believers and the sacred?
Good afternoon Ms Heyen and my fellow peers. Today I will be explaining how the Dharma Wheel,
my sacred object is a physical manifestation making connections between lived experienced for
believers and the sacred.
This sacred object, as a physical manifestation makes connections between the lived experience of
believers as it:
Helps adherents pray
Helps adherents use their body to create motivation and intention
To help adherents of suffering and to bring about peace in every human living organism.
And makes connections between the lived experiences of the sacred as it:
It shows buddhas path

The prayer wheel practice is visualized as a manifestation of the Body, Speech and Mind of the
Buddha. This makes connections between the lived experience of the sacred and believers, as they are
able to make connections with the buddha. With hands the prayer wheel is spun clockwise because the
mantra or prayer is written in the direction of the movement of the sun across the sky. With speech, we
recite one of the mantras in the prayer wheel. And with our mind, we engage in visualizations or
recitations, using our motivation and intention to bless all beings and bring peace to our surroundings
and the entire world.
The source shows An elderly Tibetan women holding a prayer wheel on the Lhasa s pilgrimage circuit
of Barkhor. The Barkhor, a quadrangle of streets that surrounds the Jokhang Temple, is both the
spiritual heart of the holy city and the main commercial district for Tibetans. This source helped me
understand how believers use their mantras to pray with this sacred object. As they use speech, mind,
modivation, and hands to bring enlightenment and

Analysis Of Seated Nude By Aristide Maillol
Throughout history we see many things reused or repeated. This is true in art, many artworks use
influences of previous artists and or styles for their work. The reuse of old ideas is present in many
artworks to date. One piece created in the last century is Seated Nude by Aristide Maillol which was
created in 1902. By using his experiences in France and his travels around Europe, Maillol
experienced many different cultures. With the presence of past cultural artifacts in our as influences in
Europe even today we see evidence of many past cultures. Classical Greek Art is one that is very
present even today. Seated Nude specifically shows Maillol s admiration of the Mediterranean with its
influences in Greek Classical Art. By the use of naturalistic and organic feature while highlighting
realism and humanism, Maillol shows Classical constructs through his piece.
Seated Nude is a terracotta sculpture on a black marble base. Housed at the Museum of Modern art it
stands 6 long 8 1/8 tall and 3 ½ wide. The piece features a woman seated on a ground with her right
arm extended back propping her up. Her other arm is bent and behind her head. The left leg is bent in
an inverted V with her foot on the ground. The right leg is bent lying flat on the ground and going in
between the V of her other leg. Her face, hair, hands, and feet are not heavily detailed; however her
features are clearly defined. The hair is pulled back with rounded hair in a circle around her head,

Thich Nhat Hanh s A Little History Of Philosophy
Today I am reading A Little History of Philosophy. The book talks about philosophical ethics which
are mainly views a person could use to determine who or what is good or bad, and assessing ideas that
others have proposed. Ethics is important because it lays the foundation of reality and the basis of the
way we should live our lives. It is a vital key to living a more happy, healthy, and discerning life.
People who live a more ethical life tend to be more dependable, understanding, honest, caring, and
happy. The study of philosophy is very useful in the daily lives of nursing and allied health majors.
The three philosophers whose ideas will be useful to me in a nursing and allied health setting are
Buddha and his teaching of right mindfulness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His views on true happiness were different then what we think happiness entails. Aristotle thinks that
when we are children, we don t know what happiness is, therefore children couldn t be happy. I think
he was trying to help us understand the reason for this is, happiness to them is more of luxury, such as
playing outside or playing video games. Children haven t endured stressors or any other life problems
to fully gain happiness. As we mature in life, we see and understand the value of life and we find what
makes us truly happy. These are the things we need, not desire. Aristotle s way of seeking happiness is
defined in a more deeper meaning of life. He used the Greek word Eudaimonia, which is occasionally
translated as flourishing or success rather than happiness (Warburton, 2012 pg.11). The choices we
make, such as the type of person we want to be and the things we want to do in life is how we flourish
and succeed. Although, our Eudaimonia can be affected by of life happenings, such as losing a loved
one, our moral character, the way we respond and deal with these events is how we continue to have

Difference Between Hbcus And Pwis
COMPARISON AND CONTRAST BETWEEN HBCUs AND PWIs
INTRODUCTION:
There was discrimination between African Americans and Whites before the Civil War. At that time,
Colleges and Universities were established only to educate Whites; only Whites went to Colleges and
Universities. There was not any educational system for African Americans. After the civil war, to fill
the educational gap between Whites and African Americans, HBCUs were established. Although,
African Americans didn t get admission on PWIs; they got admission on HBCUs. At a time when
Predominantly White Institutions(PWI) didn t allow African Americans to read in those Institutions,

American students found more comfortable and friendly environment at HBCUs while White students
found more comfortable and friendly environment at PWIs. Students attending in HBCUs seems to be
more satisfied with college experience because of their involvement on Colleges/Universities
compared to those students attending in PWIs. African American students attending HBCUs wanted
just to complete their degree as compared to students attending PWIs. White students wanted to read

What Happened At The Rec Center On Campus
Hanni Egal Journal 3 1. What Happened This group work day occurred on April 12th. We met up at
the Rec center on campus. It s not an unfamiliar location, we met at this location several times to
discuss our group projects over the semester. Everyone was in attendance aside from Isabel. Isabel
was having car issues and couldn t make it so she alerted the group via GroupMe. The rest of the
group met up around 5:30 and the meeting continued until about 6:30. At the previous meeting we had
already discussed the roles that we would take on in order to successfully complete the final project.
So this meeting was more so a get together to make sure everyone understood their roles and if they
had any questions, they were free to ask the group. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Analysis First I d like to say, this group project is a little more difficult than the other group projects
because while those depended more on a certain topic (Coachella, Streaming services), this one is
focusing on our own group history. It s easier to focus on one topic with your group, it is more
difficult to work on a group project about your group. In the meeting we spent a majority of the time
working on the different questions we would have to ask and how we wanted to go forward with our
project for presentation day. There was personal responsibility. Everyone had tasks assigned to them
and what would be required to get the project done. It wasn t forced, we decided on what topics we
wanted to focus on collectively. Once we knew our roles and requirements, it was easier because then
we had a partnership. There was a promised task and a commitment to the goal. Tasks would need to
be completed in order to finish the project successful and be prepared for the presentation. We spent
some time talking about our personal lives. We got a little carried away and started talking about
drunken experiences and teenage rebellion. It established trust. We were able to let loose and get to
know each other better. It helped because we got more comfortable with one another. And not to
mention, some of the stories were actually quite hilarious. However, shenanigans put aside, I actually
noticed that there were

Social Values in King Lear
In King Lear, Shakespeare portrays a society whose emphasis on social class results in a strict social
hierarchy fueled by the unceasing desire to improve one s social status. It is this desire for improved
social status that led to the unintentional deterioration of the social hierarchy in King Lear. This desire
becomes so great that Edmund, Goneril, Reagan and Cornwall were willing to act contrary to the
authority of the social hierarchy for the betterment of their own position within it. As the plot unfolds,
the actions of the aforementioned characters get progressively more desperate and destructive as they
realize their lack of success in attaining their personal goals. The goals vary, however the selfish
motivation does not. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also tells Edgar that Cornwall is not pleased with him over a dispute between Albany and Cornwall
that Edgar knows nothing about. He then urges Edgar to flee just before he lies to Gloucester about
Edgar s intent. Gloucester, believing Edmund s lies condemns Edgar to death and promises Edmund
his lordship. Edmund, having disposed of his brother and securing his eventual reward sees an
opportunity to acquire his land and status a little more swiftly. When Gloucester flees to help Lear he
entrusts Edmund with ensuring Cornwall does not discover Gloucester s plans and the location of
letter regarding an imminent French invasion. Edmund immediately betrays his father and shows
Cornwall the letter, making him believe Gloucester is working for the French. Gloucester is soon after
discovered and brought before Cornwall and Reagan. While Gloucester is being blinded by Cornwall,
Edmund is busy courting Goneril outside of her palace. Edmund decides to double his chances of
becoming King by courting Reagan as well. Edmund s final act of treachery occurs when he gives
orders to the Captain to hang Lear and Cordelia. He lies even in his dying breath as he stalls in order
to ensure the death of Cordelia: Despite of mine own nature. Quickly send / Be brief in it to th castle,
for my writ/ Is on the life of Lear, and on Cordelia./ Nay, send in time. (Shakespeare 5.3.292 295)

Food, Safety, And Justice For All
Food, Safety, and Justice for All
Americans today tend to have confidence that the food they consume is healthy and safe; however, the
reality of what really goes on in the food industry proves something completely different. A glimpse of
this awakening reality was revealed when award winning journalist, Tracie McMillan embarked on a
mission to discover the actuality of the American Food Industry. She managed to find three jobs
related to the food commerce: First she picked crops, next she stocked and sold produce, and finally
she helped prepare food for Applebee s. What stood out the most in her motivating journey, was that
food safety policy was not incorporated in to any of her employment trainings. Food safety policies
are very important to the food industry. The Government created the policies in place for a reason: the
safety of consumers. Corporations should not overlook the necessity of properly training their
employees by providing food safety policies to them. For this reason the United States Government
should enforce stricter audit laws to make sure employers are properly preparing their employees to
enter the workforce.
Every man, woman, and child who visit a restaurant should feel at ease that the food they consume
will be harmless. Americans are entitled to secure food products by the policies that the Government
put in place. But, food safety is not being provided by companies to their employees. McMillan asserts
that while working at Applebee s for two

Vlad the Impaler
A man that had a lot of power, was brilliant, was the prince of a country at one time, and a mastermind
of torture. All of these words are describing Vlad Dracula, otherwise known as Vlad the Impaler. [The
middle ages have produced numerous legends and heroes that remain very much a part of our

When Vlad was twelve years old he had experienced something that would sculpted his life
completely, and made him become this evil mastermind with no feelings of remorse. When an officer
[approached the bed and made a gesture to the guards. Instantly strong hands put Radu [Vlad s
brother] on his belly, pulling upward to raise his hips as one man applied oil of attar to the anus that
had previously been enlarged by the insertion of ivory pegs. The boys eyes were glistening with tears
now as his buttocks were opened to allow his ravisher full access to him. Murad stripped. When he
mounted Radu and penetrated him, the boy screamed, though more from fright than pain.... Prince
Vlad ignored this outrageous sodomizing of his brother. Even when the sultan had finished and he
himself was taken by all three officers in turn, he did the utmost not to let them see his anguish, not to
cry out or release tears which shame and humiliation brought welling into his eyes. But there was no
dignity left him now that it had happened, no maintaining his princely demeanor, no saving of his
honor. There was only the acute sense of fullness to bursting, of being used unmercifully, of
degradation and submission and defeat. It seemed to go on and on eternally, until sobs were wrung
from him and childish curses flung at the damascened wall. And while they did this to him,

Universal Medical Codes
In the health care system, there are a lot of codes that help diagnose, treat, and discharge patients daily.
Codes help nurses
especially make reports faster along with making them easier to read for individuals within the HIS
department. For a universal set of
codes to be nationally accepted in crucial when dealing with different hospitals. Let s say you are an
individual that was out of town, got
injured and then wanted your care while you were out of town to be documented through medical
records. Medical records at the town
you were in uses a list of codes that are not accepted by the CPT manual. So now, when your records
get taken to the hospital nearest
your home, they do not understand what was specifically done because they are not sure what the
codes the hospital out of town used
means. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why is a universal code manual supposed to be used around the world? Simple, so your care is
properly documented and can be billed to you in the correct manner. Also, another use for medical
codes is to protect yourself from false
documentation. If your documentation is correctly coded according to the CPT manual and everything
else follow correctly, you would be
covered if your documents got tested by someone higher than you or another hospital perhaps. Good
documentation provides a safety
net because it shows exactly what patient care you actually provided. If there is any scrutiny, you are
more protected. (Key Issues
Shaping Clinical Terminology and Classification).
In Radiology, there is not too many codes used within the department. However, when a doctor orders
an exam, often times they
will be abbreviated for the scheduler to schedule the exam. For instance, when we take a wrist x ray,
there are 3 different views that

Theme Of Red In The Handmaids Tale
The color red is used prevalently in Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale as a motif to emphasize the
dystopia world. It also serves as a symbol to represent several meanings. Many connotations are
associated with the color red. Red illustrates positive feelings from love and passion to negative
feelings such as anger and hate. Not only that, as Moses (2007) describes, it is a color which
represents blood and violence, creates emotional intensity, and to some extent also evoke erotic
feelings (p.35). Overall it can be concluded that the color red is deeply related with humans and
epitomizes human vitality and most above all, power. (Roland, 2013). The role of red successfully
creates dystopia in The Handmaid s Tale by incorporating several symbolic meaning including fertility
and love themes related to the core of the story. In The Handmaid s Tale, red is a distinct color used to
represents Handmaids. The color relates itself with the feeling of shame and is also a symbol for
fertility as it is associated with the blood of the menstruation cycle. The clothes which Handmaids
dress in are also red. This can be noted from a description Offred says: Everything except the wings
around my face is red: the color of blood, which defines us. (Atwood, 1986, p.8). Furthermore, the
accessories which Handmaids are given are also red: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eye Test Glaucoma
How To Be Tested And Treated For Glaucoma
One of the reasons it s important to have regular eye examinations when you get older is so you can be
tested for glaucoma. You can have this eye condition and not even know it sine there usually aren t
any symptoms when it is in the early stages. However, your eye doctor can easily detect it by
examining your eyes and checking your eye pressure. Early treatment could save you from going
blind. Here is some information on how you get tested for glaucoma and how it is treated.
Comprehensive Eye Examination For Glaucoma
When you have a full eye exam, the eye doctor can pick up on evidence of glaucoma as well as other
eye diseases. By doing a visual inspection of the inside of your eye with a special scope and light, the
doctor can look for damage to your optic nerve, health of your cornea, and condition of the drainage
channels in your eyes. To further check for glaucoma, the doctor will test the pressure in your eyes.
All these tests are easy to undergo and painless. In addition to the eye tests, your doctor will also
check your field of vision for blind spots since glaucoma often causes loss of peripheral vision. With
the results of all these tests, your eye doctor can determine if you have glaucoma and tell how ... Show

This usually starts with prescription eye drops. There are different classes of drugs used for glaucoma.
Since the increased pressure in your eyes is caused by poor drainage of fluid, the medications affect
drainage in different ways. Some drugs decrease the production of the fluid while others increase the
rate at which it flows through the drainage fields in your eyes. Once you start medication for
glaucoma, you ll need to have your eye pressures monitored regularly to make sure the condition is
kept under control. You may need to have your medication changed or the dose adjusted as you

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Confucianism
For all the strengths of Confucian attitudes toward nature, there are also weaknesses that must be
recognized. As a governance system, Confucianism s emphasis on hierarchy has served the programs
of political elites, fostering a disconnect between rulers and the ruled. This pattern has contributed to
poor environmental management over time, despite Confucian philosophy emphasizing unity between
humans and the land (Elvin, 2004; Tuan, 1968). Even within a single tradition, Chinese environmental
values are not monolithic. But clearly, Confucian values are insufficient by themselves to ground

The WTO (2001), however, defines sustainability in tourism literature as Development that meets the

very important role in bringing stability to the financial system and efficiency to resource allocation
Mutual funds have opened new vistas to investors and imparted much needed liquidity to the system.
III. MUTUAL FUNDS: STRUCTURE IN INDIA
Mutual Funds in India follow a 3 tier structure. There is a Sponsor (the First tier), who thinks of
starting a mutual fund. The Sponsor approaches the Securities amp;Exchange Board of India (SEBI),
which are the market regulator and also the regulator for mutual funds.
Not everyone can start a mutual fund. SEBI checks whether the person is ofintegrity, whether he has
enough experience in the financial sector, his net worth etc. Once SEBI is convinced, the sponsor
creates a Public Trust (the Second tier) as per the Indian Trusts Act, 1882. Trusts have no legal identity
in India and cannot enter into contracts, hence the Trustees are the people authorized to act on behalf
of the Trust. Contracts are entered into in the name of the Trustees. Once the Trust is created, it is
registered with SEBI after which this trust is known as the mutual fund. IV. GROWTH IN MUTUAL

Analysis Of Disney s If Disney Ran Your Hospital Essay
When I just looked at the title of this book If Disney Ran Your Hospital 9 1/2 Things You Would Do
Differently , I was pretty skeptical. No way. A hospital is neither a fun place nor entertainment. We
deal with lives. Responsibility is huge. But, Mr. Fred Lee, the author of this book, was very well
aware of that. He hit every single point I wanted to argue. Going to read the book, a lot of relevant
memories came up in my mind since I had worked for a hospital for a long time. I was convinced that
Disney s approach to quality improvement is applicable to hospital management. Out of 9 1/2 things, I
would like to talk about three actions that left marks on me with my experience: service vs.
experience, rewards to motivate people and closing the gap between knowing and doing.
The emergency department (ED) I worked for was a Level I Trauma Center, so patients were
transferred by ambulances, most of whom were in very severe conditions, such as cardio pulmonary
arrest, unconsciousness and multiple trauma. There was no room for patients to choose a hospital.
Roughly a third of patients coming to the emergency room (ER) died unfortunately. The other third
admitted to the intentional care unit (ICU), and the remains stayed at other wards in the hospital or
went back their home in a few days. In the ICU, the patients were laid on the beds that were lined
toward walls and separated on the side from their next patients with only roll curtains hanging from
the ceiling. Hence, they can

Theme Of The Arundel Tomb By Philip Larkins
The Arundel Tomb is a poem warren by Philip Larkins, published in 1964 alongside other poems
entitled the Whitsun wedding. The poem consists of several stylistic devices and illustrates a tomb for
two married people in love. Individuals in love are members of the Arundel loyal family buried in the
cathedral. Notably, the stylistic devices in the poem are aimed at developing a sustainable and a
sensitive explanation of the scripture, which is followed by a gloomy and a sardonic reflection aimed
at revealing the real situation and truthfully. The poem discusses the relationships between two
relationships found in the tomb to illustrate lies that are developed from love and how the relationship
is portrayed in a false manner. On the image, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first stanza, the first line it states that their faces blurred to explain and give the reader an
oversight of the age of the tomb. The period in which the couple lived together and how they
expressed love towards each other is revealed through corrosion of stone. Corroded stones are also
used as a metaphor to show how their love and feeling had eroded just as the tombstone. The couple
lay on each other s side to denote equality between the couple, with their faces being blurred and have
become unrecognizable as the time passes, striping off their identical nature. The attire is also barely
visible where the woman is wearing stiff folded dress while the man wears a jointed armor suit. Two
little dog s layat their feet to represent loyalty, faithfulness and companionship which are the main
theme that the tomb attempt to illustrate about the couple. The tomb is barely plain and it s hard to
catch the attention of the observer, unless he/ she focus on the duke left hand holding the right hand of
the right hand glove. The right hand holds the right hand of the princess to show the sign of eternal
faithfulness and love even after their death. The author of the poem is astonished by the artwork that
displays the tender of affection and eternal love as long as their tomb, live love with continue to

Essay on Iron Cage
In chapter one of The Iron Cage, Rashid Khalidi sets the stage for the premise of his book, by
examining the conflicting evidence of the Palestinians plight. In order to do so, the narrative begins in
1948, following the eviction of more than half of the Arab Palestinian population as a result of the
Arab Israel conflict of that year. Khalidi goes on to enumerate a few of the respective differing Arab
and Israel accounts of how it was that a people that once constituted the majority of the population of
a land, became the minority. Revisionist Israeli historians have attempted to debunk traditional
accounts that absolve Israel of any wrongdoing, such as the notion that Palestinians attacked the

Eventually, even al Husayni could not ignore the disaffection of the situation, and he too dissented, by
joining the ranks of dissidents opposing the British backed Zionist regime.
Khalidi appropriately begins chapter three, by picking up where chapter two left off highlighting the
infectiveness of the Palestinian leadership. Early on in the chapter, the importance of factionalism
within the leadership takes precedence, and the two prominent groups of the time are denoted: al
Husayni and al Nashashibi. Khalidi goes onto give background on the two competing factions, and the
reader learns that both parties had previous ties to the ruling political apparatus of the former Ottoman
Empire. Unabashedly, both parties vied for power, because of their inherent belief of superiority to
that of the average Palestinian. Playing right into the British and Zionist hands, the divide can conquer
technique of pinning the leadership against each other, denied an effective campaign to be waged that
could counter the status quo.
Safe to say, the leaders of the Palestinian opposition were riddled by bribes and back room deals,
which essentially made them quintessential puppets that could easily be controlled. Furthermore,
Palestinian leadership largely functioned under a modus operandi, based upon wishful thinking,
believing the British/Zionist movement would suddenly come to its senses and return the land to
Palestinians. The failure of the

What Was The Compromise Of 1877-1960
1877 1960 s in our country is something to be remembered. It was a time of segregation, not only
forced by the government, but enforced by the KKK as well. The Compromise of 1877, Jim Crow law,
and Plessy v Fergusson were the events that shaped us into the nation we are today. 1865 1877 was
when everything within the nation was thriving. Most freed slaves were learning to read and write,
and were indulging in everything our country had to offer them. Agriculture was at an all time high,
and there didn t seem to be an end in sight. But as the sun sets in November 1876, it rose upon a new
nation, a land engulfed in hatred, segregation, and fear. The Compromise of 1877 is best clarified
when the election of 1876 is explained in detail. The

Antigone Gender Roles
The Extremities of Gender Roles: An Analysis of the Ismene s Purpose in Antigone The discussion of
gender norms seems to be a fairly new phenomenon, occurring within the last century or so. However,
the Ancient Greek play Antigone by Sophocles offers an antique critique of gender roles through the
battle of the young, stubborn heroine Antigone and the insecure, new King Creon. The play reflects
the unending determination of a woman who is willing to stand up for what she believes, even though
the law and society has prohibited it. Though this is a fairly plausible situation to the modern
audience, it was incredibly revolutionary in Ancient Greece. In an attempt to make the situation more
plausible as well as accentuate Antigone s radical behavior, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When brought before Creon, both Antigone and Ismene confess to the unsanctioned burial. In Ismene
s admission of guilt, the foil says, Yes, I have done it if Antigone / Says so I join with her to share the
blame (21). One interesting point on this is that the way in which Ismene surrenders is written
conditionally. She is at once taking full admission while also showing full commitment to Antigone by
implying that it is up to her outlaw sister to choose her own fate. Ismene is taking the blame and
showing full submission in the way that most women would have been expected to do in Antigone s
time for a domineering spouse. Antigone, however, admitted to the crime she actually has committed
for a less altruistic reason. She is unashamed of her crime, ready for the consequences, and greedy for
the recognition for defying Creon. In fact, she was incredibly upset by Ismene s act of self sacrifice,
saying, A friend in words is not a friend for me (21). Firstly, the original Greek telling of this scene
must have used a word closer related to friend than one that is reminiscent of sister, family, or blood
because the translator would have obviously gravitated towards the more familial word, had it been
there. Consequently, the use of the word friend instead of a familial word shows Antigone s disgust for
and separation from her sister. Through not participating and still taking the blame, Ismene is
seemingly demoted from family to not even a friend. This contrast between behaviors at this point
shows, again, the divergence of Antigone from the gendered norm. While Ismene verbalizes the
ultimate sign of familial piety in sharing the blame, she was not willing to get her hands dirty when
she was needed. Antigone is disheartened and repelled by this seemingly normal

The City of Ember
The City Of Ember The City Of Ember , the first Book Of Ember , was written by Jeanne DuPrau and
published in 2003. This is a science fiction for those who do not like science fiction (Voice of Youth
Advocates, Starred). The story was about Ember, a city underground that is running out most of
energy and supplies. Ember is covered by the darkness and colorlessness. In the city of Ember, Lina
Mayfleet and Doon Harrow are trying to find a new world that has light. Following the Instruction of
the Buildes, they may find the safe way to get out of there and go outside the world. The Builders
designed an underground city with supplies and established it for lasting 200 years. After completing
the city, the Builders gave the first mayor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The City Of Ember , DuPrau was excellent by creating source of inspiration for the readers. She
didn t mention the history of the city of Ember at first, made the readers felt curious and wanted to
find out through the story. Every cliff hanger ending made readers clamoring for the next installment.
DuPrau made a connection between her characters throughout the story, their weaknesses often
complementing each other in interesting ways. DuPrau also used the specific events to convey
necessary information. By telling the conflict, DuPrau successfully remarked the encouragement of
the two main characters. The City Of Ember should be a book for those who like science fiction,
adventure. Those who don t like science fiction also may like this book, because of the realistic voice
through the story. The content of this story is simple, easy to understand. For students who are in
middle school, from the age of 12 to 14, The City Of Ember would be the best choice. If there is no
person that wanted to stand out, made a change and bravely be a pioneer likes Lina and Doon, the City
of Ember would be in darkness forever, waiting for the Builders who would never come back

In The Time Of The Butterflies And Empress Orchid
In a metaphorical sense, Stanley Kunitz depicts human experiences through the piece The Layers as
all unfolding along the same constraints while in a constant struggle against mankind s free will. That
being said, the layers discussed in the verse above could be seen as the passage of time, each era
building upon those that came before it. This linear motion of time continues infinitely, yet is
paralleled by the rise and fall of empires, nations, and peoples across the globe. Both the novel In the
Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, and Empress Orchid by Anchee Min each highlight their own
eras, each its own layer. Although centuries apart, these two works coincide in the perspectives taken
on their respective time period through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both novels each woman had a set way of perceiving the world, regardless of the fact they had not
yet encountered hardships based upon the gender norms of her society, either imperial China or
dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. Both Patria and Nuharoo were women, who after being
exposed to the gender bias of both their cultures, took on roles that fit within those parameters in
hopes of leading fulfilling lives as mothers and wives. Patria was coming out, hands first, as if
reaching up for something...[her] mind, [her] heart, [her] soul in the clouds. It took some doing and
undoing to bring [her] down to earth (Alvarez 44). In this sense Patria turned to religion and her faith
to guide her in her journey towards a good life and in turn following the traditional roles laid out for
her. She was willing to be as selfless as possible in order to ensure a place in heaven and a good
connotation to her name. This same saint like trait corresponds to that of Nuharoo who removed her
necklace and bracelets and took down her hairpins (Min 135). She was willing to give up some of her
most prized possessions in order to help pay for the growing damage caused by mass famine. This
action perfectly correspond with the notion that women must do

Summer For The Gods Summary
Summer for the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America s Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion
concentrates on the Scopes trial, otherwise called the Monkey Trial, which happened in Dayton,
Tennessee in the mid year of 1925. The trial occurred in excess of a Tennessee law that banned the
educating of human development out in the open schools. The American Civil Liberties Union needed
to test the law, and a junior instructor named John Scopes, consented to help them. The alleged trial of
the century united the well known government official and speaker, William Jennings Bryan, who
headed the opposition to development campaign; and Clarence Darrow, who was viewed as the best
criminal protection legal advisor of the time. The two men, plus their individual direction, clashed in
the trail with the indictment in the end ready to maintain the law.
In the first segment of the book, Larson lays the basis for the trial by analyzing the socio political
connection in the United States throughout this time. While development and religion had coincided
generally concordantly throughout the mid nineteenth century, more fossil findings, the ascent of
religious fundamentalism, and expanded participation in broad daylight secondary schools affected the
ascent of the opposition to advancement development in the United States. The development, headed
by William Jennings Bryan, contended that advancement speculations were risky and ought not be

Individuals With Learning Disabilities Are All Unique
Individuals with learning disabilities are all unique. A learning disability, to me, is a condition that
changes the way an individual learns and impacts how they are able to express the knowledge they
have learned. Learning disabilities are separate from physical limitations because, according to IDEA
04, learning disabilities impact an individual s ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do
mathematical calculations. An individual with a learning disability most often does not appear at the
surface to look different from their peers, but they require additional supports, strategies and
instruction in order to be a successful student. I believe their brain is hardwired to learn differently
from the typical student, and it is my job, as the special education teacher, to find out how the student
learns best and provide them with the tools they need.
In addition to knowing how students with learning disabilities learn differently, I also know they have
to work harder than the average student. I have learned that my students need to establish positive
relationships with their teacher. These individuals need to know there is someone who believes in
them who is also able to motivate them to continue to give their best each and every day. They may
also need frequent breaks and a change of pace in instruction and lessons to keep maintain their
attention and effort. Appropriate accommodations and sometimes modifications are also important for
our learning

An analysis of the Equifax data breach Introduction A recent increase in large scale data breaches has
exposed a multitude of cybersecurity vulnerabilities that pose a definite risk to consumers (Lorio,

U.S. Economy in 1800s
The scale of textile factories changed during this period. The small mills with a few dozen spindles
and looms that characterized the initial period of the industry gave way to larger complexes. This
pattern began with the Boston Associates complex at Waltham, Massachusetts. Waltham itself soon
appeared small as the Boston Associates developed Lowell on the Merrimac River. The population of
Lowell increased from 2,500 in 1826 to 35,000 in 1850. The Lowell Machine Shop became a center
for innovation not only in textile machinery but waterpower technology as well. It also trained a
generation of industrial engineers that spread throughout the economy. Lowell attracted further

In 1775, Daniel Boone blazed the Cumberland Trail, and in 1783 the Treaty of Paris gave the newly
formed United States all lands west to the Mississippi River. With the end of the war, American
interest in the West reached a new level of intensity. This second great migration had significant
impact on American society. it is clear that this westward movement was a major factor in the nation s
subsequent development. And that was certainly the case where American Christianity was concerned.
In the wake of the Revolution, churches faced three major tasks: (1) organization (2) reviving vital
religion and (3) following the population westward. The future of the Church was contingent on
dealing with all three problems. Churches soon recognized that in such a large area, the old parish
system which assumed a town would not work. Concerns that the West would lapse into barbarism or
worse that the Catholic missionaries would reach these people first, created a crisis atmosphere in
some quarters. French Catholics had long been active in the Northwest and along the Mississippi.
People on the frontier were attracted to those who preached a more emotional faith, and dismissed of

Technology In The Book 1984 By George Orwell
An average American citizen can be caught on camera more than 75 times a day. (Crime Feed)
Cameras are everywhere, from the time someone leaves their home to the time they arrive to work,
and surveillance becomes a natural way of life. Today s advance in technology has thrust the universe
nearer to the world of Big Brother, a symbol in George Orwell s novel 1984, written after World War 2
with foreshadows of the world s technological future, and imitates the novel through the government s
abilities to spy on individuals. Orwell s prediction for the year 1984 is faultless because it directs the
future toward an imprisoned world through technology as today, although the novel was published in
1949. When Big Brother s world and today are compared, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accordingly, Big Brother inspects civilians utilizing a variety of technological tools, for example

are unable to sense an object scrutinizing their privacy, before realization, their privacy is withdrawn.
Comparably, a helicopter is the basis to drones, Orwell states, In the far distance a helicopter skimmed
down between the roofs...It was the police patrol, snooping into people s windows. (P.1) Presently,
helicopters seek lives in immense districts, additionally drones substituted helicopters assembling an
efficient way to detect citizens in microscopic zones, as backyards or through windows. In brief,

Communication In Communication
Conversation is changing dynamically as society ushers in a new era of communication. Social media
has been a revelation in the way society interacts with one another. It is often celebrated for the ability
to connect individuals over extensive distances; however, it is quickly creating a disconnect between
people communicating face to face. There are three prevalent issues plaguing modern society s
interpersonal communication: Social media becomes an addiction, the interaction between reality and
the online landscape, and social media teaches society to multitask. Social media has caused attention
span to plummet and society has become increasingly enamored with an online world; thus, causing
individuals to be detracted from their environment and less sociable in face to face communication.
Renowned movie critic Roger Ebert had an interesting thought on why he believed social media was
addicting. In Ebert s blog he wrote about the French word frisson and its meaning. A translation into
English would show it means; a brief intense reaction. Ebert theorizes that humans search out for it
often. Essentially, what Ebert is acknowledging is that he finds himself addicted to this frisson. He
feels the need to search out the quick fix that social media provides. This indicates a possible
explanation why society tends to be on their phone during lulled situations (Ebert). Individuals do this
to search out frisson, and to distract themselves from their own perceived boredom. This

Analysis of Research on Caffeine s Effects on Mood...
1. A) What general topic is the author addressing? The author is addressing whether caffeine can have
an affect on mood dimensions of arousal versus a subject feeling pleasant. The author also addresses
whether these arousals will influence memory in either of two ways. First, arousal through learning,
and second through altered mood states through learning and recall (Herz,1999).
B) What have other researchers already discovered about this topic? Other researchers have found that
caffeine is one of the most psychoactive substances consumed (Gilbert, 1984). Several studies have
showed significant findings in which caffeine can affect effects in mood including increasing rates of
happiness, well being, calmness, and alertness (Zwyghuizen Doorenbos, Roehrs, Lipschutz, Timms,
Roth, 1990). It has also been shown though research that caffeine can elicit anger, anxiety, and
nervousness depending on the dose given to participants. Low doses are more likely to increase
feelings of happiness, and positive thoughts, while higher doses can elicit anxiety and nervousness.
Alcohol has also been researched with its affect on memory. Participants whom had consumed alcohol
were more likely to recall more words in a memory test rather than when they were not intoxicated.
Through this research it has been argued that drugs achieve their affects on memory by the effects of a
participants mood (Bower, 1981).

Today, while the soft drink industry s value has increased in 2004, the volume sales of carbonated soft
drinks has declined due to a large proportion of consumers who are opting for the trend towards
healthier alternatives in the functional drink segment (energy drinks, smoothies, milk juice drinks,
sports drinks) as well as bottled juices and water (ref.5). Companies have been actively engaged in
new product developments in order to counter the growing concerns about negative health impacts of
high fructose drinks, but also to increase the demand in a market where product offerings are quickly

an attempt to offset the decline in carbonated soft drink sales (ref.6). The functional market is

The Conference s County Ethnic Breakdown
Figure 12 shows the conference s county ethnic breakdown. These figures contain only the counties
that are in the Northwest Texas Annual Conference area. By excluding state level data in favor of
county level data, Figure 12 creates a closer relationship to the actual conference totals. However, the
area population does not reflect the demographics of its conference membership.
Figure 13 Conference s Actual Ethnic Breakdown
As you can see by comparing the two figures, the Northwest Texas AC s demographics do not
correlate to the geographic area. Northwest Texas contains a large concentration of African American.
Please note that the conference members may self identity on UMC data forms differently than US
census data. The annual conference fails to capture the Asian and most of the African American
population.
Figure 14 Membership by Gender
Figure 14 shows Northwest Texas membership as a percentage of gender by church attendance size.
The Northwest Texas conference averages 56% females to 44% males. By breaking the conference
churches into attendance sizes, a pattern emerges the percentage of males in a church increases as the
church size increases.
Review of Congregational Conversation
55% of Northwest Texas s churches have fewer than 50 weekly attendees (and 9% of the conference s
total weekly attendance) while 9 churches contain 27% of the conferences total weekly attendance. In
comparison to other conferences, a large portion of the conference s

Descriptive Essay About Memorial Day
It was that time of the year again. Memorial Day weekend was finally here and that means one thing
in any Hesse s mind the annual Molacek Fishing tournament! More importantly for me, I was finally
able to spend time up north in Bemidji at the lake with my entire family again. After the grueling three
hour car ride crammed with my family of six, dog, and what seemed like enough luggage for the
entire summer, I had finally made it to my sanctuary, Beltrami Shores. The moment I stepped out of
the car my world was made of green and blue. As I was listening to the diverse chirps of the many
birds, my nostrils were bombarded by the scents of the pine trees, lake water, and fresh north air. I
have learned over the years to familiarize these smells with relaxing on the lake, eating savory meals,
spending time family, and disconnecting myself from my continuously busy life. All of these great
memories were once again relived on this particular Memorial Day weekend. As I began fishing with
my siblings and grandpa by my side, I felt a sudden surge of freedom. Fishing has always been one of
my favorite activities at my cabin because I am able to go deep into thought and conversation while
enjoying how beautiful the surrounding nature is. After a few minutes of casting, I felt a sudden tug,
pulled my rod, and started reeling in what I thought would be the biggest catch of the day! I
immediately belched I got one! to everyone else in the boat. Unfortunately, I soon realized what I

The Minimum Drinking Age Act
Some people find it hard to understand that at the age of eighteen you can fight and die for your
country, but you cannot legally drink or purchase alcoholic beverages. Others find it hard to believe
that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important question
is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The legal
drinking age is the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover a wide
range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The National
Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states that they had
to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding. The idea
that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law. 21 was the age where a
person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could drink then, too. Franklin
Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft from 21 to 18 during World War
II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) began pushing for the national
drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol out of the hands of 18 year olds who
they felt were less mature. As a result, President Reagan signed the National Minimum Drinking Age
Act of 1984 to set the age at 21. Legislation concerning the legal minimum drinking age in the United
States can be

The Secret Of The Vietnam War
Most Americans are aware of the Vietnam war, but have never heard of the Secret War in Laos. The
War in Laos was the first of it s kind; it was the CIA s first ever paramilitary operation during the Cold
War. My family is connected to the time period of the Cold War because my grandfather was sent to a
prison camp by the Communists after the US withdrew from Indochina. My family was affected by
the event because after escaping the camp and seeking refuge in Thailand, my grandfather immigrated
to the United States and most of our family is living here now. In the 19th century, France colonized
Indochina what is now known as Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to exploit the environment for
economic gain, under the guise of wanting to spread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hmong are an ethnic group of people who live in the mountains of Laos. They were seen as
uncivilized barbarians by Laotians, Thai and Vietnamese people. The CIA hired them to become
soldiers in the Secret War, due to their strength, fighting spirit, and expert knowledge of the terrain. As
the war intensified, the US sent fighter bombers to assist Hmong ground forces against the Pathet Lao
(Lao Communist soldiers). According to Kurlantzick, by 1973 the US had conducted more than
580,000 bombing runs over Laos. In 1969 alone, writes Kurlantzick, the United States dropped more
bombs on Laos than it did on Japan during all of World War II. Yet, due to lax congressional oversight
and media ignorance the American people knew very little about any of this.
When the US withdrew in 1975, the Hmong rightly felt betrayed. They were left without support,
supplies, and nowhere to go. Most Hmong were hunted down by the Communists and thrown into
reeducation camps along with anyone else who resisted the new Communist government.
Immediately after the Communists took over, people were sent to what they called seminars or
reeducation camps . These camps were the centerpiece of the new regime s policy toward

The Pros And Cons Of The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to a nuclear war. Luckily, due to the
bravery of President John F. Kennedy, it was avoided. During October of 1962, President Kennedy
was alerted of some intelligence that Cuba had Soviet Nuclear missiles in its possession. Immediately
President Kennedy sprung into action. President Kennedy and The Executive Committee of the
National Security Council (Ex Comm.) did an efficient job deciding how to react to the nuclear
missiles in Cuba by carefully weighing their options of an air strike, an invasion or a naval blockade.
They were able to make a fast and very accurate decision on how they should handle the Soviet
missiles in Cuba.
The United States had many ways of gathering its intelligence. One way was by U 2 spy planes. A U 2
spy plane is a long plane that is able to take clear pictures from 70,000 feet in the air. The U 2 began
spying on July 4, 1956. For four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This option had more cons than it did pros, yet it would still be a good option if it were needed at any
other point during the Cuban Missile Crisis. One pro is that it would most definitely end the problem
which was most of Cuba and most of its people. Now the people of Cuba would stop rebelling and
causing many world problems. The con to that is the United States could cause more enemies then
they would make friends with the Cuban people. Another pro is it would be easy to assemble and easy
to put the plan into immediate action. One of the cons was it could start an air war, which the United
States did not want to get into because it could cause more of a problem than it would do good. Also if
for any reason the plan went wrong, such as the B 52 got shot down, then the United States would
look silly and both the Soviets and Cubans would be angry. Again the final decision on this option was
no. They decided this because there were way too many problems and not enough

economic activity levels of micro, meso and macro. As well as this, a more in depth understanding of
the stakeholders, there alliances and how they conflict with one an another will be mentioned. To
conclude the essay there will be an analysis of different arguments based on the facts of the different
situations which the 2022 FIFA World Cup organisers are facing with Qatar and following this a
personal conclusion of what I think of the whole matter itself. However, to start off the essay it will be
essential understand more about Qatar and their economy.
Qatar is located in the Arabian Gulf and is a peninsula which shares a land border with Saudi Arabia.
Qatar has a high income economy and over the last few decades it has become one of the most
economically competitive country in the Middle East with one of the highest GDP per capita in the
world. The country was once known to be one of the poorest states in the Gulf and is now known as
one of the richest and beautiful countries in the region today. On the 2nd December 2010, Qatar won a
bid in Zurich, to host the 2022 Football World Cup. The country became the first Middle Eastern state
to host the FIFA World Cup.

Conservation Of Mass Lab
The law of conservation of mass states that matter can be changed from one form into another,
mixtures can be separated or made, and or substances can be decomposed, but the total amount of
mass remains constant. Taking this law from a different view we can state that the total mass of the
universe remains constant. Whenever matter undergoes change the total mass of the products will be
the same as the total mass of the reactants. For example, in this experiment sodium hydroxide and
copper sulfate, the reactants have a total mass of 21.4 grams. The total mass of the products, copper
hydroxide and sodium sulfate, was 21.13 grams. The 0.27 grams was a result of the solution staying
on the thermometer that was used to measure the temperature. This law was formulated in the end of
the 18th Century. It marked the beginning of modern history. ... Show more content on

The most noticeable of them was oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen. It was also known then that when a
metal was heated in the air it became and oxide, this change was accompanied by an increase in mass.
An example of an oxide is magnesium oxide. This happens when magnesium, a metal, reacts with the
oxygen when it burns. An example calculation is when the mass of the reactant, magnesium, is 2.39
grams and the product, magnesium oxide (MgO) is 3.78 grams. (LearnChemistry) We can see a
noticeable change in the mass. It must therefore mean that oxygen from the air must have been
absorbed. The total amount of oxygen absorbed is 1.39 grams. This reaction can be reversed by
heating the magnesium which releases the oxygen and returning the metal, magnesium, into a pure
metal.

The prayer wheel practice is visualized as a manifestation of the Body, Speech and Mind of the Buddha. This makes connections between the lived experience of the sacred and believers, as they are able to make connections with the buddha. With hands the prayer wheel is spun clockwise because the mantra or prayer is written in the direction of the movement of the sun across the sky. With speech, we recite one of the mantras in the prayer wheel. And with our mind, we engage in visualizations or recitations, using our motivation and intention to bless all beings and bring peace to our surroundings and the entire world. The source shows An elderly Tibetan women holding a prayer wheel on the Lhasa s pilgrimage circuit of Barkhor. The Barkhor, a quadrangle of streets that surrounds the Jokhang Temple, is both the spiritual heart of the holy city and the main commercial district for Tibetans. This source helped me understand how believers use their mantras to pray with this sacred object. As they use speech, mind, modivation, and hands to bring enlightenment and ... • 3. Analysis Of Seated Nude By Aristide Maillol Throughout history we see many things reused or repeated. This is true in art, many artworks use influences of previous artists and or styles for their work. The reuse of old ideas is present in many artworks to date. One piece created in the last century is Seated Nude by Aristide Maillol which was created in 1902. By using his experiences in France and his travels around Europe, Maillol experienced many different cultures. With the presence of past cultural artifacts in our as influences in Europe even today we see evidence of many past cultures. Classical Greek Art is one that is very present even today. Seated Nude specifically shows Maillol s admiration of the Mediterranean with its influences in Greek Classical Art. By the use of naturalistic and organic feature while highlighting realism and humanism, Maillol shows Classical constructs through his piece. Seated Nude is a terracotta sculpture on a black marble base. Housed at the Museum of Modern art it stands 6 long 8 1/8 tall and 3 ½ wide. The piece features a woman seated on a ground with her right arm extended back propping her up. Her other arm is bent and behind her head. The left leg is bent in an inverted V with her foot on the ground. The right leg is bent lying flat on the ground and going in between the V of her other leg. • 4. Thich Nhat Hanh s A Little History Of Philosophy Today I am reading A Little History of Philosophy. The book talks about philosophical ethics which are mainly views a person could use to determine who or what is good or bad, and assessing ideas that others have proposed. Ethics is important because it lays the foundation of reality and the basis of the way we should live our lives. It is a vital key to living a more happy, healthy, and discerning life. People who live a more ethical life tend to be more dependable, understanding, honest, caring, and happy. The study of philosophy is very useful in the daily lives of nursing and allied health majors. His views on true happiness were different then what we think happiness entails. Aristotle thinks that when we are children, we don t know what happiness is, therefore children couldn t be happy. I think he was trying to help us understand the reason for this is, happiness to them is more of luxury, such as playing outside or playing video games. Children haven t endured stressors or any other life problems to fully gain happiness. As we mature in life, we see and understand the value of life and we find what makes us truly happy. These are the things we need, not desire. Aristotle s way of seeking happiness is defined in a more deeper meaning of life. He used the Greek word Eudaimonia, which is occasionally translated as flourishing or success rather than happiness (Warburton, 2012 pg.11). The choices we make, such as the type of person we want to be and the things we want to do in life is how we flourish and succeed. Isabel was having car issues and couldn t make it so she alerted the group via GroupMe. The rest of the group met up around 5:30 and the meeting continued until about 6:30. Analysis First I d like to say, this group project is a little more difficult than the other group projects because while those depended more on a certain topic (Coachella, Streaming services), this one is focusing on our own group history. It s easier to focus on one topic with your group, it is more difficult to work on a group project about your group. In the meeting we spent a majority of the time working on the different questions we would have to ask and how we wanted to go forward with our project for presentation day. There was personal responsibility. Everyone had tasks assigned to them and what would be required to get the project done. It wasn t forced, we decided on what topics we wanted to focus on collectively. Once we knew our roles and requirements, it was easier because then we had a partnership. There was a promised task and a commitment to the goal. Tasks would need to be completed in order to finish the project successful and be prepared for the presentation. We spent some time talking about our personal lives. We got a little carried away and started talking about drunken experiences and teenage rebellion. It established trust. We were able to let loose and get to know each other better. It helped because we got more comfortable with one another. And not to mention, some of the stories were actually quite hilarious. Food, Safety, And Justice For All Food, Safety, and Justice for All Americans today tend to have confidence that the food they consume is healthy and safe; however, the reality of what really goes on in the food industry proves something completely different. A glimpse of this awakening reality was revealed when award winning journalist, Tracie McMillan embarked on a mission to discover the actuality of the American Food Industry. She managed to find three jobs related to the food commerce: First she picked crops, next she stocked and sold produce, and finally she helped prepare food for Applebee s. What stood out the most in her motivating journey, was that food safety policy was not incorporated in to any of her employment trainings. Food safety policies are very important to the food industry. The Government created the policies in place for a reason: the safety of consumers. Corporations should not overlook the necessity of properly training their employees by providing food safety policies to them. For this reason the United States Government should enforce stricter audit laws to make sure employers are properly preparing their employees to enter the workforce. Every man, woman, and child who visit a restaurant should feel at ease that the food they consume will be harmless. Americans are entitled to secure food products by the policies that the Government put in place. But, food safety is not being provided by companies to their employees. It also serves as a symbol to represent several meanings. Many connotations are associated with the color red. Red illustrates positive feelings from love and passion to negative feelings such as anger and hate. Not only that, as Moses (2007) describes, it is a color which represents blood and violence, creates emotional intensity, and to some extent also evoke erotic feelings (p.35). Overall it can be concluded that the color red is deeply related with humans and epitomizes human vitality and most above all, power. (Roland, 2013). The role of red successfully creates dystopia in The Handmaid s Tale by incorporating several symbolic meaning including fertility and love themes related to the core of the story. In The Handmaid s Tale, red is a distinct color used to represents Handmaids. Out of 9 1/2 things, I would like to talk about three actions that left marks on me with my experience: service vs. experience, rewards to motivate people and closing the gap between knowing and doing. The emergency department (ED) I worked for was a Level I Trauma Center, so patients were transferred by ambulances, most of whom were in very severe conditions, such as cardio pulmonary arrest, unconsciousness and multiple trauma. Eventually, even al Husayni could not ignore the disaffection of the situation, and he too dissented, by joining the ranks of dissidents opposing the British backed Zionist regime. Khalidi appropriately begins chapter three, by picking up where chapter two left off highlighting the infectiveness of the Palestinian leadership. Early on in the chapter, the importance of factionalism within the leadership takes precedence, and the two prominent groups of the time are denoted: al Husayni and al Nashashibi. Khalidi goes onto give background on the two competing factions, and the reader learns that both parties had previous ties to the ruling political apparatus of the former Ottoman Empire. Unabashedly, both parties vied for power, because of their inherent belief of superiority to that of the average Palestinian. Playing right into the British and Zionist hands, the divide can conquer technique of pinning the leadership against each other, denied an effective campaign to be waged that could counter the status quo. It was a time of segregation, not only forced by the government, but enforced by the KKK as well. The Compromise of 1877, Jim Crow law, and Plessy v Fergusson were the events that shaped us into the nation we are today. 1865 1877 was when everything within the nation was thriving. Most freed slaves were learning to read and write, and were indulging in everything our country had to offer them. Agriculture was at an all time high, and there didn t seem to be an end in sight. • 20. Antigone Gender Roles The Extremities of Gender Roles: An Analysis of the Ismene s Purpose in Antigone The discussion of gender norms seems to be a fairly new phenomenon, occurring within the last century or so. However, the Ancient Greek play Antigone by Sophocles offers an antique critique of gender roles through the battle of the young, stubborn heroine Antigone and the insecure, new King Creon. The play reflects the unending determination of a woman who is willing to stand up for what she believes, even though the law and society has prohibited it. Though this is a fairly plausible situation to the modern audience, it was incredibly revolutionary in Ancient Greece. In an attempt to make the situation more plausible as well as accentuate Antigone s radical behavior, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When brought before Creon, both Antigone and Ismene confess to the unsanctioned burial. In Ismene s admission of guilt, the foil says, Yes, I have done it if Antigone / Says so I join with her to share the blame (21). One interesting point on this is that the way in which Ismene surrenders is written conditionally. She is at once taking full admission while also showing full commitment to Antigone by implying that it is up to her outlaw sister to choose her own fate. Ismene is taking the blame and showing full submission in the way that most women would have been expected to do in Antigone s time for a domineering spouse. Antigone, however, admitted to the crime she actually has committed for a less altruistic reason. She is unashamed of her crime, ready for the consequences, and greedy for the recognition for defying Creon. In fact, she was incredibly upset by Ismene s act of self sacrifice, saying, A friend in words is not a friend for me (21). Firstly, the original Greek telling of this scene must have used a word closer related to friend than one that is reminiscent of sister, family, or blood because the translator would have obviously gravitated towards the more familial word, had it been there. Consequently, the use of the word friend instead of a familial word shows Antigone s disgust for and separation from her sister. Through not participating and still taking the blame, Ismene is seemingly demoted from family to not even a friend. This contrast between behaviors at this point shows, again, the divergence of Antigone from the gendered norm. While Ismene verbalizes the ultimate sign of familial piety in sharing the blame, she was not willing to get her hands dirty when she was needed. Antigone is disheartened and repelled by this seemingly normal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A learning disability, to me, is a condition that changes the way an individual learns and impacts how they are able to express the knowledge they have learned. Learning disabilities are separate from physical limitations because, according to IDEA 04, learning disabilities impact an individual s ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations. Social media has been a revelation in the way society interacts with one another. It is often celebrated for the ability to connect individuals over extensive distances; however, it is quickly creating a disconnect between people communicating face to face. There are three prevalent issues plaguing modern society s interpersonal communication: Social media becomes an addiction, the interaction between reality and the online landscape, and social media teaches society to multitask. Social media has caused attention span to plummet and society has become increasingly enamored with an online world; thus, causing individuals to be detracted from their environment and less sociable in face to face communication. Renowned movie critic Roger Ebert had an interesting thought on why he believed social media was addicting. In Ebert s blog he wrote about the French word frisson and its meaning. A translation into English would show it means; a brief intense reaction. Ebert theorizes that humans search out for it often. Essentially, what Ebert is acknowledging is that he finds himself addicted to this frisson. He feels the need to search out the quick fix that social media provides. Today, while the soft drink industry s value has increased in 2004, the volume sales of carbonated soft drinks has declined due to a large proportion of consumers who are opting for the trend towards healthier alternatives in the functional drink segment (energy drinks, smoothies, milk juice drinks, sports drinks) as well as bottled juices and water (ref.5). Companies have been actively engaged in new product developments in order to counter the growing concerns about negative health impacts of high fructose drinks, but also to increase the demand in a market where product offerings are quickly maturing (ref.4). New flavor introductions and health conscious formulations have been launched in an attempt to offset the decline in carbonated soft drink sales (ref.6). The functional market is expected to show sustained growth and consumer interest in the future years as consumption shifts to trendier, healthier and more sophisticated products (ref.7). Profitability future growth potential: In 1993, Concentrate Producers earned 29% pretax profits on their sales, while bottlers earned 9% profits on their sales, for a total industry profitability of 14%. While the functional drinks sector only accounts for 3.7% of the total soft drinks sales in 2004 (Appendix B), estimates are forecasting a growth of 7.3% in sales and 11.0% in volume consumption

These figures contain only the counties that are in the Northwest Texas Annual Conference area. By excluding state level data in favor of county level data, Figure 12 creates a closer relationship to the actual conference totals. However, the area population does not reflect the demographics of its conference membership. Figure 13 Conference s Actual Ethnic Breakdown As you can see by comparing the two figures, the Northwest Texas AC s demographics do not correlate to the geographic area. Northwest Texas contains a large concentration of African American. Please note that the conference members may self identity on UMC data forms differently than US census data. The annual conference fails to capture the Asian and most of the African American population. Figure 14 Membership by Gender Figure 14 shows Northwest Texas membership as a percentage of gender by church attendance size. The Northwest Texas conference averages 56% females to 44% males. By breaking the conference churches into attendance sizes, a pattern emerges the percentage of males in a church increases as the church size increases. Review of Congregational Conversation 55% of Northwest Texas s churches have fewer than 50 weekly attendees (and 9% of the conference s total weekly attendance) while 9 churches contain 27% of the conferences total weekly attendance. • 42. Descriptive Essay About Memorial Day It was that time of the year again. Memorial Day weekend was finally here and that means one thing in any Hesse s mind the annual Molacek Fishing tournament! More importantly for me, I was finally able to spend time up north in Bemidji at the lake with my entire family again. After the grueling three hour car ride crammed with my family of six, dog, and what seemed like enough luggage for the entire summer, I had finally made it to my sanctuary, Beltrami Shores. The moment I stepped out of the car my world was made of green and blue. As I was listening to the diverse chirps of the many birds, my nostrils were bombarded by the scents of the pine trees, lake water, and fresh north air. I have learned over the years to familiarize these smells with relaxing on the lake, eating savory meals, spending time family, and disconnecting myself from my continuously busy life. All of these great memories were once again relived on this particular Memorial Day weekend. As I began fishing with my siblings and grandpa by my side, I felt a sudden surge of freedom. Fishing has always been one of my favorite activities at my cabin because I am able to go deep into thought and conversation while enjoying how beautiful the surrounding nature is. After a few minutes of casting, I felt a sudden tug, pulled my rod, and started reeling in what I thought would be the biggest catch of the day! I immediately belched I got one! to everyone else in the boat. Unfortunately, I soon realized what I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Minimum Drinking Age Act Some people find it hard to understand that at the age of eighteen you can fight and die for your country, but you cannot legally drink or purchase alcoholic beverages. Others find it hard to believe that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important question is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The legal drinking age is the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover a wide range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states that they had to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding. The idea that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law. 21 was the age where a person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could drink then, too. Franklin Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft from 21 to 18 during World War II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) began pushing for the national drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol out of the hands of 18 year olds who they felt were less mature. As a result, President Reagan signed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 to set the age at 21. Legislation concerning the legal minimum drinking age in the United States can be ... • 45. The Secret Of The Vietnam War Most Americans are aware of the Vietnam war, but have never heard of the Secret War in Laos. The War in Laos was the first of it s kind; it was the CIA s first ever paramilitary operation during the Cold War. My family is connected to the time period of the Cold War because my grandfather was sent to a prison camp by the Communists after the US withdrew from Indochina. My family was affected by the event because after escaping the camp and seeking refuge in Thailand, my grandfather immigrated to the United States and most of our family is living here now. In the 19th century, France colonized Indochina what is now known as Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to exploit the environment for economic gain, under the guise of wanting to spread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hmong are an ethnic group of people who live in the mountains of Laos. They were seen as uncivilized barbarians by Laotians, Thai and Vietnamese people. The CIA hired them to become soldiers in the Secret War, due to their strength, fighting spirit, and expert knowledge of the terrain. As the war intensified, the US sent fighter bombers to assist Hmong ground forces against the Pathet Lao (Lao Communist soldiers). According to Kurlantzick, by 1973 the US had conducted more than 580,000 bombing runs over Laos. In 1969 alone, writes Kurlantzick, the United States dropped more bombs on Laos than it did on Japan during all of World War II. Yet, due to lax congressional oversight and media ignorance the American people knew very little about any of this. When the US withdrew in 1975, the Hmong rightly felt betrayed. They were left without support, supplies, and nowhere to go. Most Hmong were hunted down by the Communists and thrown into reeducation camps along with anyone else who resisted the new Communist government. Immediately after the Communists took over, people were sent to what they called seminars or reeducation camps . These camps were the centerpiece of the new regime s policy toward ... • 46. The Pros And Cons Of The Cuban Missile Crisis The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to a nuclear war. Luckily, due to the bravery of President John F. Kennedy, it was avoided. During October of 1962, President Kennedy was alerted of some intelligence that Cuba had Soviet Nuclear missiles in its possession. Immediately President Kennedy sprung into action. President Kennedy and The Executive Committee of the National Security Council (Ex Comm.) did an efficient job deciding how to react to the nuclear missiles in Cuba by carefully weighing their options of an air strike, an invasion or a naval blockade. They were able to make a fast and very accurate decision on how they should handle the Soviet missiles in Cuba. The United States had many ways of gathering its intelligence. One way was by U 2 spy planes. A U 2 spy plane is a long plane that is able to take clear pictures from 70,000 feet in the air. The U 2 began spying on July 4, 1956. For four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This option had more cons than it did pros, yet it would still be a good option if it were needed at any other point during the Cuban Missile Crisis. One pro is that it would most definitely end the problem which was most of Cuba and most of its people. Now the people of Cuba would stop rebelling and causing many world problems. The con to that is the United States could cause more enemies then they would make friends with the Cuban people. Another pro is it would be easy to assemble and easy to put the plan into immediate action. One of the cons was it could start an air war, which the United States did not want to get into because it could cause more of a problem than it would do good. Also if for any reason the plan went wrong, such as the B 52 got shot down, then the United States would look silly and both the Soviets and Cubans would be angry. Again the final decision on this option was no. They decided this because there were way too many problems and not enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Conservation Of Mass Lab The law of conservation of mass states that matter can be changed from one form into another, mixtures can be separated or made, and or substances can be decomposed, but the total amount of mass remains constant. Taking this law from a different view we can state that the total mass of the universe remains constant. Whenever matter undergoes change the total mass of the products will be the same as the total mass of the reactants. For example, in this experiment sodium hydroxide and copper sulfate, the reactants have a total mass of 21.4 grams. The total mass of the products, copper hydroxide and sodium sulfate, was 21.13 grams. The 0.27 grams was a result of the solution staying on the thermometer that was used to measure the temperature. This law was formulated in the end of the 18th Century. It marked the beginning of modern history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most noticeable of them was oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen. It was also known then that when a metal was heated in the air it became and oxide, this change was accompanied by an increase in mass. An example of an oxide is magnesium oxide. This happens when magnesium, a metal, reacts with the oxygen when it burns. An example calculation is when the mass of the reactant, magnesium, is 2.39 grams and the product, magnesium oxide (MgO) is 3.78 grams. (LearnChemistry) We can see a noticeable change in the mass. It must therefore mean that oxygen from the air must have been absorbed. The total amount of oxygen absorbed is 1.39 grams. This reaction can be reversed by heating the magnesium which releases the oxygen and returning the metal, magnesium, into a pure metal. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
