Sunk Cost Fallacy Research Paper
2 Sunk Cost Fallacy Many people have experienced the Sunk Cost Fallacy at least once in their
lifetime. The Sunk Cost Fallacy can be described as the price or time you are paying for your
investment. If a lot of time and effort have been dedicated to that certain job than it will always be
much more difficult for the person to quit the fallacy. Ever since we were kids we have been told by
our parents and teachers to never quit our goals and aspirations, but what if we aren t good at
something and never will be? If a person quits for a positive reason to improve their life then that is
when quitting is good. We are prone to make the mistake because we are not open minded, we are
afraid of making mistakes and busy ourselves with thinking about

Shamanistic Healing Essay
Shamanistic Healing
Shamanistic healing, one of the oldest spiritual healing powers, has recently become a topic of interest
in modern medicine.
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is a mix of magic, folklore, medicine and spirituality that evolved in tribal and gathering
communities thousands of years ago. Shamanic faith presumes that everyone and everything has a
spirit which is a part of a greater whole, and that spirits affect all events, including illness and disease.
In the tradition of Shamanism it is believed that certain people named shamans exhibit particular
magical specialties at birth; the most common specialization is that of a healer. A Shaman is believed
to have the ability to communicate with the ethereal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First the physiological response is when the mind becomes absorbed in and focused on a dominant
idea and the nervous system is cut off from physical sensory input. The body exhibits reflex inertia,
involuntary nervous responses, and frenzy. Emotional perception, another form of ecstasy, refers to
overwhelming feelings of awe, anxiety, joy, sadness, fear, astonishment, passion, or any combination
of intense emotion. Finally, intuitive perception occurs when there is an understanding of the
transpersonal experience and expanded states of awareness or consciousness are possible. While the
physiological response is always present, the emotional response and intuitive perception may not be
within reach for all those who venture into ecstatic trance. Opposed to general hypnosis, practicing
shamanic techniques uses self hypnotic states to fine tune senses and observe the inner workings of
ones mind semi consciously. Research findings suggest that the contents of shamanic trance are not
solely influenced by psychopathology, biochemical effects, or cultural influences; there is a spiritual
variable that must be accounted for.

The Concept Of Ecotourism And Its Effects On The Environment
The concept of Ecotourism ( a concept pioneered during the early 1970 s to combat the negative
impacts of mass tourism) is defined as environmentally conscious, enlightening travel, to relatively
undisturbed natural areas in order to enjoy and appreciate nature, while promoting local environmental
conservation...and providing local socio economic benefits through the participation of the local
communities . Responsible ecotourism programs are those that (1) minimize negative aspects of mass
tourism on the environment, (2) contributes to environmental preservation efforts, (3) is economically
beneficial for the local population and, (4) educates the tourist themselves. Ecotourism today is one of
the tourism industry s fastest growing subsector, with an estimated global annual growth of 15 19%.
With this much money involved, governments as well as, tourism corporations heavily promote
ecotourism programs, with their claims of environmental and social sensitivity but, there exist well
founded concerns on its actual environmental impact, and whether it is viable as a solution to the
world s environmental problems. In this paper we will try to dissect the supposed benefits brought by
ecotourism and provide an alternative and more viable solution.
We will start by attacking the claim (1) which is that ecotourism minimizes the negative aspects of
mass tourism. Due to the fact that environmental regulations in areas where ecotourism programs are
often badly implemented or

Jackie Robinson And The Baseball
Jackie Robinson did not only help initiate the integration of the game of baseball, but he also helped
initiate integration throughout America. The film Soul of the Game does not go into all of the details
regarding his career on the Brooklyn Dodgers, but rather it depicts his life and choices leading up to
his career in the Major Leagues. This film portrays important themes such as segregation,
perseverance, and doubt, and it applies to history in the beginning of the story of Jackie Robinson and
how America has gotten to where it is now. Although the court case of Plessy v. Ferguson declared
segregation to be legal as long as things were equal in 1896, baseball had already done this about ten
years prior. There was a creation of the Negro League in the 1920s through the 1940s so that African
Americans could have the same opportunities and white players even though they were not allowed on
any of the major league teams. Jackie Robinson was a rookie player on the Kansas City Monarchs, a
Negro League team, and being along side Satchel Paige, no one even noticed who he was. According
to the reading in Jackie Robinson and Race in America by Thomas Zeiler, Satchel Paige was the first
negro player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and he possibly believed to be one of the best
pitchers of all time. Another comrade of Robinson s during his time in the Negro League would be
Josh Gibson, one of the greatest catchers and hitters of all time. The owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers,

The Importance Of My Personal Identity
What is your identity? People think they know someone s identity by the external factors, but there are
internal factors that they don t know about the person. For example, people might think people are
happy, but deep down they might be sad and they don t want nobody to find out. I define myself as a
catholic heterosexual 15 year old Latina. My identity is very different than what others think of me. I
think my real identity is awesome, some people think that because I am a teenager I m into
parties, relationships, drugs and also how I m a teenager, I don t like kid shows or playing with my little
cousins also they think I don t do kid stuff anymore. My real identity is very different from the other
teenagers around me. I love to play with my niece bella and my cousins. I love spending time with my
family like if I would have to choose between going with my friends to the movies or my family I
would choose my family 1000times. When my family and I go to beautiful places I m always taking
pictures of nature, what going on during the events. Nature is one of my favorite things because there
are many beautiful things to admire. Like when I go to the beach I like to stare at the waves and the
sea shells come in and leave. Another thing I like is summer because there are so many things you can
do than in the winter or any other season. Summer is my favorite because we go to so many places and
parties also you re never home which means you ll rarely get bored. It also means you get to go on
vacation. Art is something I like because it s a way I can express myself, I love to draw and paint
another thing I like to do is observe art because I can imagine different things based on the art. Social
media like Snapchat, instagram, Facebook etc are amazing because you re able to see what other
people are going also a magnificent way of communicating with family and friends far far away. I
love to be under water even though I don t know how to swim but I m learning. One of my hobbies is
to cook, I also love to bake. Cooking makes me happy because I can use my creativity to make new
recipes I make really good food and mostly because they are my mom s recipes. Movie theaters are

Will Economic Valuation Of Nature Be Happily Ever After...
Will Economic Valuation of Nature Be Happily Ever After for Canadian Boreal Forest?
Nature with all her beautiful plants and animals along with humans lived happily ever after This
would be that perfect ending that I would envisage if I ever wrote a fairy tale with Nature as the
female protagonist. But with growing human population and increasing demand for natural resources
our planet s happily ever after story seems very distant and distraught. According to Convention of
Biological Diversity nearly 20,000 species of plants and animals are at a high risk of extinction and if
this trend continues, Earth would see another mass extinction event within a few centuries.
Fortunately, in midst of these negative news reckoning the dooms ... Show more content on

Can similar valuation exercise lead to Canadian Boreal forests happily ever after?
Picture 2: Mining and gas wells within Boreal forests Photo credit: Green Peace
Firstly, economic valuation of ecosystem services can provide a logical reasoning to oppose
unwarranted industrial development in Boreal zone. For instance, a study conducted by Canadian
Boreal Initiative on Counting Canada s Natural Capital estimated the total economic value of boreal
ecosystem services (both market and non market values) in the year 2002 as 750 billion CAD which
would equate to 61 percent of the value of Canada s GDP (as of 2002). Furthermore, on comparing the
values, it was found that total non market value of boreal ecosystem services is 13.8 times greater than
the net market value of boreal natural capital extraction. The results imply that economic, ecological
and social benefits of boreal forest systems in their pristine state, may be significantly greater than the
market values derived from current industrial development forestry, oil and gas, mining, and
hydroelectric energy combined.
Secondly, the regeneration capacity of these forests are very low so the trees once destroyed, would
take much longer to grow back than forests in tropical regions. Fires in Canada s boreal forest are
common, burning an average of 2m ha every year. Insurance Bureau of Canada calculated the damage
from wildfire in Fort McMurray, Alta., as $3.58 billion, making it the most expensive disaster for

The Decision Making Process At York College
Part Two Decision making, as defined by Mintzberg, is The process of developing a commitment to a
course of action (Dee Bess, 2008,2012). The decision by York College to stop using their old data
mining software was made about ten months ago, and the process for finding the new software began
about six months ago. It is difficult to classify academic analytics as a strategic, tactical, or operational
decision because it has elements of all three. Strategic applies as one of the primary goals is to
improve student graduation rates and retention. It is a tactical decision because the software will be
used to improve the product we are providing our students to better fit their needs. Finally, it is an
operational decision because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently, the college is in the stage of developing solutions. Of the different search methods
available, the College is utilizing the trap search and the active search. Outside vendors have been
brought in to demonstrate the services their products can provide. The focus of these products varies,
but all share a feature that provides students with improved degree planners and student monitoring
software. The similarities are outnumbered by their differences, however, which does include cost.
The selection/analysis process is not being conducted by a committee, but is instead being conducted
by the Associate Provost for Student Success. Since there is no committee, he is inviting
representatives from all the affected departments to observe the demonstrations from the vendors and
asking for feedback of on their opinions. This has created some tension among various groups on
campus. The reason for this is that some of the software demonstrated could completely change
resources that not all agree would be improved. When it has been determined that there are options
that meet the needs of the college and its students, a screening process will occur with the chosen
vendors returning to campus to discuss in more detail the implementation of their product, giving the
college the needed information it needs to make a final decision. Even though the search is being led
by one person, the authorization to purchase will ultimately have to be supported by the Provost,

War Of 1812 Research Paper
In 1812, The U.S. declared war on Great Britain. However, was this war really a necessary war? I
believe this war was not necessary for three reasons. The first reason the war was not necessary was
because the British did not want war with the U.S.. The British were already in a war with France and
this wasn t a fair war for them. The second reason the war of 1812 wasn t justifiable was because the
British were even willing to stop interfering with American Wars so the war wouldnt start. They sent a
message to America saying they would stop interfering with American shipping, but sadly it arrived
after the declaration of war. One of the reasons America declared war was because of the BRitish
impressment of American ships and sailors. The third

Comparing The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of The Calaveras...
Mark Twain the writer of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country and Charles Dickens
the author of The Baron of Grogzwig , both presented disjunction as a literary technique to evoke a
numerous response from their readers. Disjunction was seen in Mark Twain s story during the part
when the story started in a way the narrator was in search for Leonidas Smiley and ended up getting
information about Jim Smiley. Just as the Baron who wanted to die but ended up realizing that it was
not worth it. For me, this literary technique caught the attention of most readers. In the story of The
Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country, symbolism, personification and flashback may be
seen too. Mark Twain, used the real politicians and symbolized them using animals that would fit their
own characteristics. Personification can be seen when the story of Jim Smiley was told, one perfect
example was when the frog Daniel Webster was educated and the literary technique that was used so
much was flashback when Jim Smiley s story was told. The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras
Country by Mark Twain was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Baron of Grogzwig, simply tells a story about a baron who was once happy but not yet contented.
He wanted to marry and at some point got what he wanted, he had 13 kids but his wife removed the
things that he used to love. He became sad and wanted to die but then a genius somehow made him
realize that he was not ready to die yet. So, for me, the definition of an English comic bases literary
style is having everything connected, there is something behind the text, it is easy to understand, and
has lesson in the end. The story was clear from the very start until the end making it a nice story too.
The English comic based literary style was also part of the story in which the humor of the character

Satan As A Tragic Hero Essay
DeRosas 1
Sundi M. DeRosas
Professor Julie Roth
ENGL.2322.W31C
6 December, 2015 Satan as a tragic hero
In the poem of ?Paradise Lost? written by John Milton, Satan is thought of as a tragic hero because he
is perceived as a strong leader to the fallen angels and has tremendous importance. He struggles to
overcome his apprehensions and choses to dedicate him to evil. He lacks strength to accomplish his
goal of corrupting mankind. Satan becomes unable to judge God?s grace and is not able to find a way
of making his past right. Therefore, he is punished by being condemned to eternal Hell. In the
beginning of ?Paradise Lost?, Milton draws the reader to Satan by his very seductive ways and lures
them to believe he is an innocent victim by his cunning character. The reader sees Satan as having
attributes of a hero because we see him through his eyes. His evil is brought to human level and one
may feel compelled to understand him. We begin to sympathize with him against our will and realize
just how seductive evil really is and not to succumb to it. Satan shares his pain and alienation as he
reaches Earth. The reader can identify with him and therefore feels sympathetic towards him. Many
tragic heroes begin their journey because of self assurance and pride and are not prosperous in the end.
Satan obtains a struggle within him and questions God?s relationship with the angels in Heaven and
doesn?t believe God should be above everyone else. He has many

The Church Is Holy Through Complete Devotion And Love For God
The church is holy through complete devotion and love for God. Because the church is holy, the
church has the duty to love and take care of all people. Holiness is a dedication to God. This
dedication is formed individually by the people of God, who are the church. However, not every
person of God is one hundred percent holy. Only Jesus Christ had complete dedication to God, but the
church strives for this dedication. Throughout time, there has been role models of holiness within the
church known as saints. Throughout the church s history, there has been many saints that lived their
life in complete devotion to God. For example, Joan of Arc was known as a Fool for God. As a
teenager, she trusted the Lord and followed her call to lead a French army to victory. She went against
all odds but continued to put her faith in the Lord. Even when she was captured and burned at the
stake, the saint never lost her faith. James Martin writes in his book, My Life with the Saints, Joan was
devoted to Jesus Christ, to prayer, to the sacraments, to the church, and to its saints. She believed in
God even when God asked her to accomplish the seemingly impossible, (My life with the Saints, 25).
Pedro Arrupe, another saint studied within the book stated the following about devotion to God, He or
she is a person who hast the conviction that Gods knows, can do, and will do what is best for mankind,
(My Life with the Saints, 91). Throughout life, the people of God face many setbacks, but

The Negative Effects Of Peer Pressure On College Students
The four short years that people spend in college can be some of the best years of their lives. Meeting
new people, learning new things, and getting involved in clubs all contribute to this. Although these
years can be great, they also have the ability to damage our lives forever. Many students fall victim to
peer pressure, which occurs when a person or certain group of people tries to force an individual to
conform to how that person or group acts. Peer pressure can affect college students physically,
mentally, and socially. I feel as though this issue should be addressed much more when it comes to
college life. Peer pressure is not a new occurrence that has only come to light within the last few
years. It has happened since the beginning of time, whether it be within friend groups, within the
workplace, or within school settings. The idea of peer pressure is already negatively viewed by many
people, and rightfully so. Many people feel as though they need to fit in with a group, so they fall
victim to peer pressure. This is especially true for freshman college students, who feel as though they
need to do certain things and act a certain way to fit in (Palmeri [1]). These social pressures make
them do things they usually did not do. The two most obvious things that students may fall into due to
peer pressure is alcohol and drug use. These are two substances that are almost always causing harm
to people s health. Excessive alcohol use is bad for several reasons, including

Narrative Essay On The Glass Castle
As flames engulfed her dress, they burned down her stomach as she screamed for help. This was the
first memory Jeannette Walls had in The Glass Castle . The plot of the story reveals her childhood of
poverty as she moved around the country with her delusional family. Her alcoholic father and
mentally ill mother created a very different lifestyle for their children, and raised them like no other.
The unique plot, strong characters, and many settings make the novel successful. In this
autobiography, she perseveres through tough times and leads the reader down the path she took to
adulthood.
In her younger years, Jeannette was an smart and imaginative child. At first, she enjoyed moving
around, and had a lot of faith in her father, which created a good relationship between them. All we
had to was find gold, once we d struck it rich, he d [Rex] start work on our Glass Castle (Walls, 25).
The tremendous faith that she has in Rex creates a strong bond because she is the only family member
who trusts his ideas. Unfortunately, he is a raging alcoholic who can t hold a job, so most of his
promises are broken. As Jeannette gets older, he lets her down more and more. One time he brought
her to a bar where she was then sexually violated. When the two had a talk after, he said I knew you
could handle yourself (Walls, 213,) instead of defending her. It was upsetting to watch their
relationship grow apart and to see how poorly he provided for his family, yet they still loved him.

A Short Note On The De La Literatura

As being a proud representative of the AAA Safety Patrol program I was taught the value of patience.
For instance, when someone needed help I would listen and provide my insight. In few instances when
a school bus would arrive after the students were let out of school I would patiently wait with the
students in order to ensure their safety and assist the younger students who were unaware of where
their bus was and direct them where to go. I apply the value of patience in my everyday life because I
often volunteer in first grade or kindergarten classrooms and in order to assist the students requires an
immense amount of patience. The program has also taught me the value of commitment because every
day I would ensure safety before and after school and as a group the safety patrollers would frequently
meet at least once a month to check up with our advisor. I have applied the value of commitment to

The Determination Of Iron And Vitamin Tablets Essay
In Experiment 5, Spectrophotometric Determination of Iron in Vitamin Tablets we will discover the
importance of spectrophotometry which is a way to measure how much light is absorbed by a
chemical substance that will measure the potency of light as beams in order to detect the light in a
sample solution. Spectrophotometric is a quick, reliable method that measures light in a quantitated
way, ensuring that electromagnetic radiation may be absorbed by matter. In order to understand how
radiation is absorbed you ll need to know that it depends heavily on the concentration of the
wavelength and the absorbing chemical within a sample. In this experiment, we will be exploring the
iron tablet that will be dissolved in acid so that it can cause reduction transformation into Fe2+ using
hydroquinone, and turned up using o phenathroline to create a colored complex. We will then use
those reagents to begin our procedure to sum up with our finish results. The finish results of each
sample solution (ranging in different mL ranges) will be measured by light absorbency using 508nm

Neighbor Rosicky Character Analysis
BABYLON REVISITED AND NEIGHBOR ROSICKY 2 F. Scott Fitzgerald s Babylon Revisited and
Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky 1. In Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky , the protagonist is
hardworking, hospitable, and generous. The main character, Anton Rosicky, is a hardworking
individual, as indicated by the following mentioned by Dr. Burleigh: ...you ve [that is, Anton Rosicky]
always worked hard, and your heart s tired. You ve got to be careful from now on, and you can t do
heavy work anymore (Cather, 1928, p. 1). The lines clearly illustrates that Anton Rosicky is someone
who is often found working hard on his farm. In addition to that, it appears as though he loves to work
hard. Even after the doctor advised Anton not do any strenuous work in the fields, the protagonist still
asked Dr. Burleigh if he could be allowed to shell corn. The doctor immediately turned down his
request. Rosicky s question reveals that he is reluctant to give up his farm work. It, therefore, suggests
that he enjoys the work of being a farmer. Anton Rosicky is also a hospitable individual. This is
demonstrated by the following lines: He [that is, Dr. Burleigh] did not know another farm house where
a man could get such a warm welcome, and such good strong coffee with rich cream (Cather, 1928, p.
3). The above lines indicate that Rosicky would go beyond what was expected of him to make his
guests stay at him home comfortable. Furthermore, it appears as if the welcoming or inviting attitude
that Rosicky had was transferred to the rest of his household. For example, the narrator describes how
the long table , which was prepared by Anton s wife and daughter, was covered with a bright oilcloth ,
and also set out with dishes waiting for the doctor (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Anton s wife also made the
kitchen full of the smell of coffee , hot biscuit , and sausage (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Moreover, Anton s
sons took Dr. Burleigh s fur coat from off his back before hanging it up and helped to put his horse
away (Cather, 1928, p. 3). It can be said that BABYLON REVISITED AND NEIGHBOR ROSICKY
3 Anton s warmth and hospitality was so sincere that it inspired the other family members to behave in
the same way. In addition, Cather s main

Summary Of Concentration Camp Survivor, By Viktor E. Frankl
Viktor E. Frankl, a psychiatrist and holocaust survivor, was born into a Jewish family in Vienna,
Austria on March 26, 1905. Throughout his early life Frankl portrayed an immense interest into
psychology and the inner workings of the human thought process. Frankl completed his schooling in
psychology at the University of Vienna in 1925. He practiced psychiatry until 1942, when he and his
family were deported to the Nazi ghetto of Theresienstadt where he was kept until he and his wife
were transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp. It is here that Frankl s written story begins.
Frankl, however, does not write the story of the typical concentration camp survivor. Frankl would
agree with Thomas Hardy when he says, A story must be exceptional enough to justify its telling; it
must have something more unusual to relate than the ordinary experience of every average man and
woman. Frankl does not solely speak about the dismal existence that was created in the concentration
camps that he was housed within. He also speaks of the psychological factors that were at play during
his time in the concentration camps, and what he believed was going on inside the minds of the
prisoners. In this is the reason Frankl s story is truly unique. Frankl s story is not simply unique it is,
as stated by Hardy, exceptional . Frankl in order to convey his analysis of the psyche of the prisoners
utilized vivid visual imagery, passionate appeals to pathos, and elegant and dramatic

Animas River Environmental Effects
Recently, a contractor working for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unintentionally
released 3 million gallons of toxic mine waste into the Animas River in the Mountain West state of
Colorado. Today, people in the US are debating the efficacy of the EPA (the right wing is using the
spill as anti government propaganda) and the toxic aftermath the spill will undoubtedly have on local
economies, communities and ecosystems. So far, the spill has contaminated the Animas River, San
Juan River, and the Colorado River in Utah. In addition, several water supply systems have been
affected by the spill. While the river system mostly serves farming communities, the disaster also
poses a risk to the drinking water of 17, 000 people living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their history is all but erased, their lives destroyed in the pursuit of material wealth (resource
extraction). Superficial statues and hollow tributes now stand where vibrant human communities once
lived for millennia. The US Government, unrecognized by vast portions of Native Americans, hence
illegitimate in their eyes, ruthlessly imposed treaties, laws, cultural mandates and regulations on a
population who never asked for such measures. There was resistance, but it was stamped out. Thus,
the bloody history of European settlement is never far from the minds of indigenous people living in
the US. It would be wise to recall the Sand Creek massacre of 1864, where a 700 man force of
Colorado Territory militia attacked and destroyed a peaceful village of Cheyenne and Arapaho in
southeastern Colorado Territory, killing and mutilating an estimated 70 163 Indians, about two thirds
of whom were women and children. Indeed, from Sand Creek to My Lai, from Kandahar to Fallujah,
US state sponsored terror always produces the same results: massacres, mutilated bodies and

Summary Of Deborah Brandt s Sponsors Of Literacy
In Sponsors of Literacy, Deborah Brandt explains how all of us are the beneficiaries individuals,
institutions, events, and ideas that make it possible for us to gain literacy or allow our access to
literacy. Brandt s main claim is that a person s access to literacy is largely dependent on
socioeconomic factors. Supporting that main claim, she introduces three sub claims: the first being
that there exists a stratification of opportunity; those with wealth and social status; and those who are
rich are more likely to be the beneficiaries of literacy development. On the other hand, those of a
lower socioeconomic status, those who are ethnically or racially non white, are less likely to receive
the advantages of literacy development. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

differences between one another s literacy practices, but how everyone s literacy practices are affected
in differential economies. Brandt uses Raymond and Dora to argue her point very well Brandt believes
that sponsors of literacy contribute to this stratification as well. She uses the story of Dwayne Lowery

Synthesis Of Hexane Lab Report
The purpose of this lab is to gain a greater understanding of the reactions between aldehydes and
amines and of their usefulness in synthesis and biology. The lab is divided into 3 steps, the first step is
imine formation, second step is reduction of the imine, and the last step is acylation of the imine. The
imine formed is a primary imine, the first two steps of the lab make up reductive amination1. The
formation of the imine is carried out by adding 0.213 grams of ortho vallin, the aldehyde, and .150
grams of para toluidine. The solids were grinded until homogenous, one layer is formed. The crystals
went from brown to orange liquid layer. The bi product of imine formation is water, and OH gets
protonated and come off during the reaction. Recrystallization is done to get rid of water. Hexane is
used as the recrystallization solvent because it is non polar, like the imine. The mass is 0.3365 grams

Sodium borohydride is a reducing agent that reduces double bonds. The solution went from orange
then to a cloudy white precipitate. The bright orange in the first step is because of imine formation.
Lack of colour, after the addition of NaBH4, shows imine is no longer there it has been reduced. That
amine is now formed evident by the white precipitate. Sodium Borohydride is highly reactive, so it
needs a protic solvent like ethanol to help stabilize. This is why ethanol is added before the sodium
borohydride. The formation of imine happens at acidic conditions and ethanol makes sure the solution
does not get to acidic otherwise amine is not formed. Sodium borohydride is waited to be added,
because if added before the imine is formed it reduces the intermediate and not the imine

The Real Monster In Victor Frankenstein
In Mary Shelley´s Gothic novel, Frankenstein, the Monster once claimed, The fallen angel becomes a
malignant devil. Yet even that enemy of God and man had friends and associates in his desolation; I
am alone. Frankenstein, since the 1910 film adaptation, has known a series of several adaptations that
changed drastically, not only the plot but one of the main characters, the Monster, from stealing its
creator´s name to being portrayed as a cold villain. Though, in the original storyline, the biggest threat
to society is the creator itself, the one pretending to play as God, Victor Frankenstein. This essay will
discuss the nature of the main characters of the novel and conclude who is the real monster in the end.

Frankenstein was a coward that used science selfishly to become a God without taking responsibility
of the retaliation of defying the laws of Nature. The Monster did kill many and became a murderer,
acts that cannot be forgot except that they are the consequence of the negligence of its creator. That is
why ethics are necessary, as people like Victor Frankenstein, in the name of the human civilization, do
terrible and unethical acts. Victor had an obsession, just like the Monster, the first one with building
and the other one with destroying. In the end, the Monster could have been the result of an experiment
that could have to be useful for society in some way, at least, better than an indifferent criminal. Dr.
Victor Frankenstein is the biggest threat to society as he has a negligent attitude, governed by
impulsive attitudes, Frankenstein, in the beginning, tries to be good but the Monster embraced his
darker side, his ambition, and egotism which consumed Victor s entire life, ending up in misery that
involved not only the one playing as God and its creation but everyone around them that had nothing

Marx and the Communist Manifesto
A specter is haunting Europe the specter of Communism, Karl Marx proclaims. This phantom maybe
the resolution to rid a country of greed and exploitation. Karl Marx in the collaboration with Frederich
Engels elucidates his concern of capitalism and his yearn for a communistic society in the book, The
Communist Manifesto. In this book he explains his idea of true communism. True communism is a
social order in which all citizens are equal. In communism equality means that society is classless,
moneyless, and stateless. Citizens will no longer be able to own property, inherit money, and capitalize
on their inferior. In his book Marx illustrates the essence of communism by explicating the
relationship between the antagonistic groups, addressing the objections leveled at communism, and
explaining the relationship between the proletariat and the communist. Marx utilizes a variety of
argumentative appeals to persuade readers that communism is the solution to the wretched lives of the
majority. As Marx goes about expressing his assertion, he commits fallacies that may hinder his
credibility and the effectiveness of his claim. By the end of his book Marx declares men, women, and
children of the impoverished community need to come together to overthrow capitalism and become a
socialist society of communism because communism is the answer, communism is the future. Marx
begins The Communist Manifesto by revealing the relationship between two antagonistic groups from

What Is The Similarities Between Easter 1916 And An Irish...
The effects of war as a theme in W.B.Yeats s Easter 1916 and An Irish Airman Foresees His Death
Easter 1916 and An Irishman Foresees His Death are poems which were written by William Butler
Yeats. Easter 1916 was written to relive the Easter Rising, an event which occurred in Ireland during
Easter in the year 1916 to confirm its independence and national identity from British. An Irishman
Foresees His Death was written as a tribute to Major Robert Gregory who had died while fighting for
his country during World War I. Although both the poems focuses on war yet the perception viewed on
war is different. Therefore, both of these poems will be compared with the consequences of war as the
theme of the poem and based on the patriotic emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the perception of war in Easter 1916 it was a patriotic and collective force especially fighting for
their nation. However, in An Irish Airman Foresees His Death, the Irishman though he was patriotic he
makes war sound as though they had to go out of compulsion or was forced to go. Moreover the
airman flew in the sky not only to fight but also to fulfill his desire. Those that I fight I do not hate,
Those that I guard I do not love (Yeats, 1918). There is deep irony in this statement because Yeats says
that those people who fight for his country and people are the courageous man whom the poet
worships and he hates those people who always try to rule and make other people to follow them. This
statement signifies Yeats hatred towards British country that conquered and ruled Ireland. Although
they had positive thoughts towards Germany they were insisted to revolt against by the British. In
Easter 1916, British colonized Ireland and harsh anti Catholic law were passed upon Irish people, that
led to increase in Irish Nationalism and it let to revolt in. So in this context, Yeats is talking about the
British for being too offensive and it makes the people wonder how many Irish people suffered and
had been killed during World War I. Around thirty five thousand Irish died in the First World War
among one hundred forty

Effects Of Negative Tweets During The 2011-2012 Primary...
This article touches on the effects of negative tweets during the 2011 2012 primary elections. The
author assumes that through research she would discover that candidates that had fewer votes would
be more inclined to take part in negative tweeting behaviors in regards to their fellow competitors
during the election. The tweets that would be posted would be negative towards the frontrunner s
charter versus stances on issues if candidates felt the same way on an issue. These assumptions raised
many questions to research as well. Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) raised the first question of
What types of messages did candidates disseminate utilizing tweets during the 2011 12 Presidential
Primaries (p. 3). The next question brought up by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) was, Were
runner up candidates more likely than front runners to include a negative tone in their tweets (p. 3).
Then the third question stated by Moody, Cohen and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates
more likely than front runners to attack their opponents in their tweets (p. 3) Finally, the fourth and
final question raised by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) stated, What interactive units did
politicians use within their tweets. To what type of content did they link? What was the tone of
candidate hashtags (p. 3).

Law To Vaccinate Parents
We want to believe we are invincible and that nothing can touch our children. We have access to the

eradicated due to vaccination. This quotation was written by a woman named Linda Anderson. When
her son was only a few months old, he did of a vaccine preventable disease. If you were to ask her, she
would implore you to vaccinate her children. She suffered a loss that no parent should ever have to
endure. Parents should be required by law to vaccinate their children because the argument against it

sometimes dangerous diseases, and they prevent loss of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Smallpox is one example of a diseases that could be deadly to a small child that contracts it. If a baby
catches an illness that bad, he or she does not have a strong enough immune system yet and there is a
great chance the child won t make it. Like I mentioned before, Linda Anderson lost her baby due to a
vaccine preventable disease. No parent should have to suffer a loss like that. The saddest part is, there
are many other stories out there just like Linda s. A very young child catches a disease, their immune
system isn t strong enough to fight it, the child doesn t make it. It s absolutely horrible. Another
mother, Karen Alpert, says in an entry on her blog, BabySideburns, she understands that parents
would do whatever they can do protect their child, but children need to be vaccinated. In the blog, she
talks about how she doesn t want her children to catch a preventable disease just because some parents
think they know better than doctors.
The argument can be made that vaccines have ingredients that can be harmful to small children.
However, these ingredients are given in such small doses that they just help the child build up an
immunity to them and to the disease the vaccine is made to prevent so they won t catch chickenpox or
smallpox. Parents would know this is they looked at how much of each ingredient the vaccines

Argumentative Essay On Child Labor
Child Labor Hurts Everyone
In the past, women and men fought for the children of America to liberate them of the burden of harsh
work and give them their childhood back. Although we want to believe that child labor is now history,
child labor is still significant in our time, all around the world. Today the number of children, ages 5
14, working around the world are estimated to be increasing. Children are constantly working in
dangerous working environments that cost them their lives or hamper their ability them to have a basic
normal childhood that children have in America. These children miss the opportunity to run and play
with friends, have friends their own age, to explore the world around them that they live in every day,
have the opportunities to go to school to learn about the world they live in, and expand their
imagination. Instead children in some part of world are going to mines and sweatshops to work instead
of to school. They are working in dangerous places instead of playing with kids their own ages, and
we in America are helping with the growth of child labor.
Although in America we have protected our next generation by out lawing child labor, we are
constantly helping the growth of child labor in other parts of the world. How you might ask? By
buying the products produced through child labor from other countries. As American consumers we
need to stop buying products produced by child labor. The sources that I will be analyzing and will
provide dates and facts to examine how we in America have increased the buying of products from
other countries that have child labor as their number one workforce, how by buying from these
countries has hurt Americans, how our import has increased, and exports decreased, and how this has
hurt America s economy dramatically.

The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay
By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and
Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid growth. In all this great expansion of aqueducts and
dams, concerned citizens like John Muir proclaimed that more must be done to protect the majesty and
beauty of California before it is all gone. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau, which
published Walden, a landmark book on the topic of environmentalism, and his years exploring and
camping in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, Muir began to gather like minded scientists and thinkers in
San Francisco. Efforts by Muir and the formation of his Sierra Club in the 1890s eventually met with
success in convincing the federal government to protect the Yosemite Valley from logging and grazing
interests, preserving the area into a newly formed forest reserve concept of a national park (Fox, p.
106). Muir had less success in preserving the sister valley of Hetch Hetchy, which eventually was
dammed and flooded to use as a reservoir for the inhabitants of San Francisco.
Up till the 1950s, environmental activism was fractured among diverse groups with diverse causes:
water quality, overpopulation, air quality, clean beaches, toxic wastes, pesticides, endangered wildlife.
Yet, in 1950, the Sierra Club, led by native Californian David Bower, eventually secured its national
reputation in the battle against another massive dam proposal, this time the Echo Park Dam project in
Utah.

The Assassination Of President Abraham Lincoln Essay
One of the most tragic moments throughout all American history in my opinion is the Assassination of
President Abraham Lincoln. With no surprise I am writing about certain event that occurred leading up
to, during, and after this unfortunate event. This historical event is clouded with conspiracy but I will
try to avoid specifics of that particular view. Abraham Lincoln was born in a little town located within
Hardin Country, Kentucky on February 12, 1809 (www.whitehouse.gov/abrahamlincoln). He grew up
dirt poor and in my opinion could be considered a frontiers man just like his father was. His mother on
the other hand passed away when Lincoln was at a very young age. Lincoln was also in my opinion of
great intelligence, hard worker, and a very ambitious young man. He would farm and run a store in
New Salem, Illinois (www.whitehouse.gov). A little less known tale about him is that he was a very
good wrestler back in the day and received his nick name honest Abe for walking a library book
several miles to be returned. He met the love of his life May Todd after becoming a dynamic lawyer
and had four young boys. Sadly only one lived to see adult hood (www.history.com). Abraham
Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States of America in 1861. At this time the states
where not so united. As a matter of fact 13 of them had succeeded from the union in the same year
President Lincoln was elected (1861). The historical significance of this time was known as the

Student Jazz Ensemble Concert Report
On April 4, 2017, I attended the Student Jazz Ensemble at the State University of New York at New
Paltz. The concert held in the Julien J. Studley Theatre at 8 pm. It was an impressive student spring
concert series performed by the students from our college. Although the concert was not performed as
the professional concerts held in famous places, it was great opportunity for the campus community to
listen that kind of musical activity. I have attended the same Jazz Ensemble concert in the previous
spring semester because one of my friends from Turkey was playing saxophone during the
performance like he did in this performance.
The Jazz Ensemble was composed of eleven students and they played different music during the
concert. They played music based on classic jazz pieces and some of the pieces were familiar to me
because I remember them from my past experience. The instruments were regular for a jazz band,
however, I have never take attention before, so, listening these different instruments voices in a very
harmonized way was amazing. There was a trumpet player, two vocals, electric and acoustic guitarists,
saxophone players, electric and double bass players and a drum player in the band. ... Show more

As a first music, the band played a song which they created on the stage which was really interesting
because the members of the band played the music very harmonized and symmetrical way. The most
interesting part of this unfamiliar experiment was that each member of the band played
extemporaneously notes based on their own preference. After that music, How Deep is the Ocean by
Irving berlin was played. The following one was the St. Louis Blues by the W. C. Handy. The songs
were slow and easy going songs which I really liked to

Influencing Group Communication
In any organization, a person can see the five bases of power at work, some powers more than others
depending on the individual in charge and the circumstances. The power used by such individuals can
affect communication within the organization, whether positive or negative. There are five bases of
power, being coercive, reward, legitimate, expert and personal.
Coercive power, reward power and legitimate power are all formal powers. A person s position in a
company can give him influence over others below him, thereby affording him formal power.
Coercive power is dependent on fear. A person reacts to this power out of ... Show more content on

The Police Chief also has reward power in that he has the power to promote or give raises in the
department.
The Fire Safety officer in the department is a Sergeant, has been with the University 13 years, longer
than anyone else and is an expert in his field of work. Because of this, he exercises more of the
personal power, such as expert and referent power. When it comes to any information or equipment
for the Department, he is the go to guy. He has also served in a supervisory capacity before and is
second in command to eh Police Chief, as well as the event coordinator for the Department. When he
speaks on a matter, everyone for the most part listens and complies with his directives. Because of his
personality, many of the employees consider him approachable and communicate well with him.
An example of legitimate power is exercised with the shift supervisors who consist of Sergeants and
Corporals. These ones have been given authority from the Police Chief to discipline individuals under
them on each shift or to handle petty matters. He backs these ones up on whatever decisions are made
on their shift provided it does not interfere with the policies of the University Police Department. If
problems do arise in the department, there is an open door policy where the employees are welcome to
discuss with the Chief or their immediate supervisor so that it can be resolved as soon as possible.
In conclusion, the base of

Stephen Harper s Wealth Gap Analysis
Stephen Harper has continually disgraced Canada and its citizens throughout his almost 10 year reign
as Prime Minister. There are many problems that have risen throughout Harper s governing; the
widening of the wealth gap, the lack of women s rights and aboriginal rights are just a few. With an
election around the corner, it s time for change.
The Harper government tend to push aside many problems that exist in this nation. The wealth gap is
widening tremendously; the rich are getting richer and the poor are still poor. According to Statistics
Canada, The top 20 per cent of Canadian families by income saw their average net worth rise from
$721,900 in 1999 to $1.3 million in 2012, adjusted for inflation. Those numbers compares to the

Harper also pays favouritism to his friends who will undoubtedly vote for him by preferring policies
aimed at giving tax breaks to the rich (Rochon). Families, who really need an increase in their
government cheques, including childcare allowance, have to suffer the avoidable consequences of
Harper s actions.
The Harper government has also been neglecting important basic human rights that are given to
women and aboriginals. The Conservative party has cut funding to many women s groups. In 2006,
the Conservatives cut Status of Women Canada s budget by 37 percent and closed 12 of its 16 regional
offices. They also eliminated funding to women s groups doing research, advocacy, and lobbying, and

The State Of Wyoming Permits
The state of Wyoming permits the first law in the country granting women over the age 21 the right to
vote. Subsequently assembly the Union in 1890s, it turns into the first state to permit women the right
to vote in elections, though in 1887, Kansas permitted women to vote in elections. The colonies
embrace the English system of property ownership for married women, implication women cannot
own assets in their own name or keep a type of profit. By early 1900s, all states will have accepted
legislation sculpted after New York s Married Women s Property Act (1848), which grants married
women the right to keep their own earnings and to own land in their own term. First Women s Rights

Variances over the 13 15th Amendments and the connection between women s suffrage and the
measure for racial equality split the women s rights movement between two organizations: The
National Woman Suffrage Association and The American Woman Suffrage Association. The
adversaries will unite in 1890 to system the National American Women s Suffrage Association.
Women from both parties knew that in order to stay strong and win rights, is to combine and hold
hands with each other the whole process without fighting. The Territory of Wyoming passes the first
law in the country granting women over age 21 the right to vote. Later joining the Union in 1890,
Wyoming becomes the first state to let women the right to vote in all polls, yet in 1887, Kansas let
women to vote in municipal elections. Women knew every step to success in their goals is to have a
domino effect. One state will start off and every other state will end up granting equal rights to both
genders, therefore more support from more women from different states means support overall. A
federal law that let female federal workers equal pay and equal work is passed. Even though it was
passed, it was leaving out majority of female workers who work for private corporations and or state
and local governments until the adoption of the Equal Pay Act in 1963. Many holes where made and

The Sunk Cost Fallacy can be described as the price or time you are paying for your investment. Ever since we were kids we have been told by our parents and teachers to never quit our goals and aspirations, but what if we aren t good at something and never will be? Shamanism is a mix of magic, folklore, medicine and spirituality that evolved in tribal and gathering communities thousands of years ago. Shamanic faith presumes that everyone and everything has a spirit which is a part of a greater whole, and that spirits affect all events, including illness and disease. In the tradition of Shamanism it is believed that certain people named shamans exhibit particular magical specialties at birth; the most common specialization is that of a healer. The Concept Of Ecotourism And Its Effects On The Environment The concept of Ecotourism ( a concept pioneered during the early 1970 s to combat the negative impacts of mass tourism) is defined as environmentally conscious, enlightening travel, to relatively undisturbed natural areas in order to enjoy and appreciate nature, while promoting local environmental conservation...and providing local socio economic benefits through the participation of the local communities . Responsible ecotourism programs are those that (1) minimize negative aspects of mass tourism on the environment, (2) contributes to environmental preservation efforts, (3) is economically beneficial for the local population and, (4) educates the tourist themselves. Ecotourism today is one of the tourism industry s fastest growing subsector, with an estimated global annual growth of 15 19%. With this much money involved, governments as well as, tourism corporations heavily promote ecotourism programs, with their claims of environmental and social sensitivity but, there exist well founded concerns on its actual environmental impact, and whether it is viable as a solution to the world s environmental problems. In this paper we will try to dissect the supposed benefits brought by ecotourism and provide an alternative and more viable solution. We will start by attacking the claim (1) which is that ecotourism minimizes the negative aspects of mass tourism. • 5. Jackie Robinson And The Baseball Jackie Robinson did not only help initiate the integration of the game of baseball, but he also helped initiate integration throughout America. The film Soul of the Game does not go into all of the details regarding his career on the Brooklyn Dodgers, but rather it depicts his life and choices leading up to his career in the Major Leagues. This film portrays important themes such as segregation, perseverance, and doubt, and it applies to history in the beginning of the story of Jackie Robinson and how America has gotten to where it is now. Although the court case of Plessy v. Ferguson declared segregation to be legal as long as things were equal in 1896, baseball had already done this about ten years prior. There was a creation of the Negro League in the 1920s through the 1940s so that African Americans could have the same opportunities and white players even though they were not allowed on any of the major league teams. Jackie Robinson was a rookie player on the Kansas City Monarchs, a Negro League team, and being along side Satchel Paige, no one even noticed who he was. According to the reading in Jackie Robinson and Race in America by Thomas Zeiler, Satchel Paige was the first negro player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and he possibly believed to be one of the best pitchers of all time. Another comrade of Robinson s during his time in the Negro League would be Josh Gibson, one of the greatest catchers and hitters of all time. The owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, ... People think they know someone s identity by the external factors, but there are internal factors that they don t know about the person. For example, people might think people are happy, but deep down they might be sad and they don t want nobody to find out. I define myself as a catholic heterosexual 15 year old Latina. My identity is very different than what others think of me. I think my real identity is awesome, some people think that because I am a teenager I m into parties, relationships, drugs and also how I m a teenager, I don t like kid shows or playing with my little cousins also they think I don t do kid stuff anymore. My real identity is very different from the other teenagers around me. I love to play with my niece bella and my cousins. I love spending time with my family like if I would have to choose between going with my friends to the movies or my family I would choose my family 1000times. When my family and I go to beautiful places I m always taking pictures of nature, what going on during the events. Nature is one of my favorite things because there are many beautiful things to admire. Like when I go to the beach I like to stare at the waves and the sea shells come in and leave. Another thing I like is summer because there are so many things you can do than in the winter or any other season. Summer is my favorite because we go to so many places and parties also you re never home which means you ll rarely get bored. It also means you get to go on vacation. Art is something I like because it s a way I can express myself, I love to draw and paint another thing I like to do is observe art because I can imagine different things based on the art. Social media like Snapchat, instagram, Facebook etc are amazing because you re able to see what other people are going also a magnificent way of communicating with family and friends far far away. Nature with all her beautiful plants and animals along with humans lived happily ever after This would be that perfect ending that I would envisage if I ever wrote a fairy tale with Nature as the female protagonist. But with growing human population and increasing demand for natural resources our planet s happily ever after story seems very distant and distraught. Picture 2: Mining and gas wells within Boreal forests Photo credit: Green Peace Firstly, economic valuation of ecosystem services can provide a logical reasoning to oppose unwarranted industrial development in Boreal zone. For instance, a study conducted by Canadian Boreal Initiative on Counting Canada s Natural Capital estimated the total economic value of boreal ecosystem services (both market and non market values) in the year 2002 as 750 billion CAD which would equate to 61 percent of the value of Canada s GDP (as of 2002). Furthermore, on comparing the values, it was found that total non market value of boreal ecosystem services is 13.8 times greater than the net market value of boreal natural capital extraction. The results imply that economic, ecological and social benefits of boreal forest systems in their pristine state, may be significantly greater than the market values derived from current industrial development forestry, oil and gas, mining, and hydroelectric energy combined. Secondly, the regeneration capacity of these forests are very low so the trees once destroyed, would take much longer to grow back than forests in tropical regions. Of the different search methods available, the College is utilizing the trap search and the active search. Outside vendors have been brought in to demonstrate the services their products can provide. The focus of these products varies, but all share a feature that provides students with improved degree planners and student monitoring software. The similarities are outnumbered by their differences, however, which does include cost. The selection/analysis process is not being conducted by a committee, but is instead being conducted by the Associate Provost for Student Success. Since there is no committee, he is inviting representatives from all the affected departments to observe the demonstrations from the vendors and asking for feedback of on their opinions. This has created some tension among various groups on campus. The reason for this is that some of the software demonstrated could completely change resources that not all agree would be improved. When it has been determined that there are options that meet the needs of the college and its students, a screening process will occur with the chosen vendors returning to campus to discuss in more detail the implementation of their product, giving the college the needed information it needs to make a final decision. • 9. War Of 1812 Research Paper In 1812, The U.S. declared war on Great Britain. However, was this war really a necessary war? I believe this war was not necessary for three reasons. The first reason the war was not necessary was because the British did not want war with the U.S.. The British were already in a war with France and this wasn t a fair war for them. The second reason the war of 1812 wasn t justifiable was because the British were even willing to stop interfering with American Wars so the war wouldnt start. They sent a message to America saying they would stop interfering with American shipping, but sadly it arrived after the declaration of war. One of the reasons America declared war was because of the BRitish impressment of American ships and sailors. The third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Comparing The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of The Calaveras... Mark Twain the writer of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country and Charles Dickens the author of The Baron of Grogzwig , both presented disjunction as a literary technique to evoke a numerous response from their readers. Disjunction was seen in Mark Twain s story during the part when the story started in a way the narrator was in search for Leonidas Smiley and ended up getting information about Jim Smiley. Just as the Baron who wanted to die but ended up realizing that it was not worth it. For me, this literary technique caught the attention of most readers. In the story of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country, symbolism, personification and flashback may be seen too. Mark Twain, used the real politicians and symbolized them using animals that would fit their own characteristics. Personification can be seen when the story of Jim Smiley was told, one perfect example was when the frog Daniel Webster was educated and the literary technique that was used so much was flashback when Jim Smiley s story was told. • 13. Satan As A Tragic Hero Essay DeRosas 1 Sundi M. DeRosas Professor Julie Roth ENGL.2322.W31C 6 December, 2015 Satan as a tragic hero In the poem of ?Paradise Lost? written by John Milton, Satan is thought of as a tragic hero because he is perceived as a strong leader to the fallen angels and has tremendous importance. He struggles to overcome his apprehensions and choses to dedicate him to evil. He lacks strength to accomplish his goal of corrupting mankind. Satan becomes unable to judge God?s grace and is not able to find a way of making his past right. Therefore, he is punished by being condemned to eternal Hell. In the beginning of ?Paradise Lost?, Milton draws the reader to Satan by his very seductive ways and lures them to believe he is an innocent victim by his cunning character. The reader sees Satan as having attributes of a hero because we see him through his eyes. His evil is brought to human level and one may feel compelled to understand him. We begin to sympathize with him against our will and realize just how seductive evil really is and not to succumb to it. Satan shares his pain and alienation as he reaches Earth. The reader can identify with him and therefore feels sympathetic towards him. Many tragic heroes begin their journey because of self assurance and pride and are not prosperous in the end. Satan obtains a struggle within him and questions God?s relationship with the angels in Heaven and doesn?t believe God should be above everyone else. He has many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Church Is Holy Through Complete Devotion And Love For God The church is holy through complete devotion and love for God. Because the church is holy, the church has the duty to love and take care of all people. Holiness is a dedication to God. This dedication is formed individually by the people of God, who are the church. However, not every person of God is one hundred percent holy. Only Jesus Christ had complete dedication to God, but the church strives for this dedication. Throughout time, there has been role models of holiness within the church known as saints. Throughout the church s history, there has been many saints that lived their life in complete devotion to God. For example, Joan of Arc was known as a Fool for God. As a teenager, she trusted the Lord and followed her call to lead a French army to victory. She went against all odds but continued to put her faith in the Lord. Even when she was captured and burned at the stake, the saint never lost her faith. James Martin writes in his book, My Life with the Saints, Joan was devoted to Jesus Christ, to prayer, to the sacraments, to the church, and to its saints. She believed in God even when God asked her to accomplish the seemingly impossible, (My life with the Saints, 25). Pedro Arrupe, another saint studied within the book stated the following about devotion to God, He or she is a person who hast the conviction that Gods knows, can do, and will do what is best for mankind, (My Life with the Saints, 91). Throughout life, the people of God face many setbacks, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Negative Effects Of Peer Pressure On College Students The four short years that people spend in college can be some of the best years of their lives. Meeting new people, learning new things, and getting involved in clubs all contribute to this. Although these years can be great, they also have the ability to damage our lives forever. Many students fall victim to peer pressure, which occurs when a person or certain group of people tries to force an individual to conform to how that person or group acts. Peer pressure can affect college students physically, mentally, and socially. I feel as though this issue should be addressed much more when it comes to college life. Peer pressure is not a new occurrence that has only come to light within the last few years. It has happened since the beginning of time, whether it be within friend groups, within the workplace, or within school settings. The idea of peer pressure is already negatively viewed by many people, and rightfully so. Many people feel as though they need to fit in with a group, so they fall victim to peer pressure. This is especially true for freshman college students, who feel as though they need to do certain things and act a certain way to fit in (Palmeri [1]). These social pressures make them do things they usually did not do. The two most obvious things that students may fall into due to peer pressure is alcohol and drug use. These are two substances that are almost always causing harm to people s health. Excessive alcohol use is bad for several reasons, including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The plot of the story reveals her childhood of poverty as she moved around the country with her delusional family. Her alcoholic father and mentally ill mother created a very different lifestyle for their children, and raised them like no other. The unique plot, strong characters, and many settings make the novel successful. In this autobiography, she perseveres through tough times and leads the reader down the path she took to adulthood. • 22. The Determination Of Iron And Vitamin Tablets Essay In Experiment 5, Spectrophotometric Determination of Iron in Vitamin Tablets we will discover the importance of spectrophotometry which is a way to measure how much light is absorbed by a chemical substance that will measure the potency of light as beams in order to detect the light in a sample solution. Spectrophotometric is a quick, reliable method that measures light in a quantitated way, ensuring that electromagnetic radiation may be absorbed by matter. In order to understand how radiation is absorbed you ll need to know that it depends heavily on the concentration of the wavelength and the absorbing chemical within a sample. In this experiment, we will be exploring the iron tablet that will be dissolved in acid so that it can cause reduction transformation into Fe2+ using hydroquinone, and turned up using o phenathroline to create a colored complex. We will then use those reagents to begin our procedure to sum up with our finish results. The finish results of each sample solution (ranging in different mL ranges) will be measured by light absorbency using 508nm wavelength. Understanding Beer s Law, we know that A=ɛbc with A equaling the absorbency, ɛ is the molar absorptivity (M 1cm 1), b being the pathlength measured using cm, and c is the molar concentration of a solution. Beer s law specifically explores the quantitative analysis of a concentration of the radiation absorbed vs. the concentration of the absorbing chemical. The light absorbency of the beam ... • 23. Neighbor Rosicky Character Analysis BABYLON REVISITED AND NEIGHBOR ROSICKY 2 F. Scott Fitzgerald s Babylon Revisited and Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky 1. In Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky , the protagonist is hardworking, hospitable, and generous. The main character, Anton Rosicky, is a hardworking individual, as indicated by the following mentioned by Dr. Burleigh: ...you ve [that is, Anton Rosicky] always worked hard, and your heart s tired. You ve got to be careful from now on, and you can t do heavy work anymore (Cather, 1928, p. 1). The lines clearly illustrates that Anton Rosicky is someone who is often found working hard on his farm. In addition to that, it appears as though he loves to work hard. Even after the doctor advised Anton not do any strenuous work in the fields, the protagonist still asked Dr. Burleigh if he could be allowed to shell corn. The doctor immediately turned down his request. Rosicky s question reveals that he is reluctant to give up his farm work. It, therefore, suggests that he enjoys the work of being a farmer. Anton Rosicky is also a hospitable individual. This is demonstrated by the following lines: He [that is, Dr. Burleigh] did not know another farm house where a man could get such a warm welcome, and such good strong coffee with rich cream (Cather, 1928, p. 3). The above lines indicate that Rosicky would go beyond what was expected of him to make his guests stay at him home comfortable. Furthermore, it appears as if the welcoming or inviting attitude that Rosicky had was transferred to the rest of his household. For example, the narrator describes how the long table , which was prepared by Anton s wife and daughter, was covered with a bright oilcloth , and also set out with dishes waiting for the doctor (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Anton s wife also made the kitchen full of the smell of coffee , hot biscuit , and sausage (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Moreover, Anton s sons took Dr. Burleigh s fur coat from off his back before hanging it up and helped to put his horse away (Cather, 1928, p. 3). • 24. Summary Of Concentration Camp Survivor, By Viktor E. Frankl Viktor E. Frankl, a psychiatrist and holocaust survivor, was born into a Jewish family in Vienna, Austria on March 26, 1905. Throughout his early life Frankl portrayed an immense interest into psychology and the inner workings of the human thought process. Frankl completed his schooling in psychology at the University of Vienna in 1925. He practiced psychiatry until 1942, when he and his family were deported to the Nazi ghetto of Theresienstadt where he was kept until he and his wife were transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp. It is here that Frankl s written story begins. Frankl, however, does not write the story of the typical concentration camp survivor. Frankl would agree with Thomas Hardy when he says, A story must be exceptional enough to justify its telling; it must have something more unusual to relate than the ordinary experience of every average man and woman. Frankl does not solely speak about the dismal existence that was created in the concentration camps that he was housed within. He also speaks of the psychological factors that were at play during his time in the concentration camps, and what he believed was going on inside the minds of the prisoners. In this is the reason Frankl s story is truly unique. Frankl s story is not simply unique it is, as stated by Hardy, exceptional . Brandt s main claim is that a person s access to literacy is largely dependent on socioeconomic factors. Supporting that main claim, she introduces three sub claims: the first being that there exists a stratification of opportunity; those with wealth and social status; and those who are rich are more likely to be the beneficiaries of literacy development. On the other hand, those of a lower socioeconomic status, those who are ethnically or racially non white, are less likely to receive the advantages of literacy development. Another ... Karl Marx in the collaboration with Frederich Engels elucidates his concern of capitalism and his yearn for a communistic society in the book, The Communist Manifesto. In this book he explains his idea of true communism. True communism is a social order in which all citizens are equal. In communism equality means that society is classless, moneyless, and stateless. Citizens will no longer be able to own property, inherit money, and capitalize on their inferior. • 34. What Is The Similarities Between Easter 1916 And An Irish... The effects of war as a theme in W.B.Yeats s Easter 1916 and An Irish Airman Foresees His Death Easter 1916 and An Irishman Foresees His Death are poems which were written by William Butler Yeats. Easter 1916 was written to relive the Easter Rising, an event which occurred in Ireland during Easter in the year 1916 to confirm its independence and national identity from British. An Irishman Foresees His Death was written as a tribute to Major Robert Gregory who had died while fighting for his country during World War I. Although both the poems focuses on war yet the perception viewed on war is different. Therefore, both of these poems will be compared with the consequences of war as the theme of the poem and based on the patriotic emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the perception of war in Easter 1916 it was a patriotic and collective force especially fighting for their nation. However, in An Irish Airman Foresees His Death, the Irishman though he was patriotic he makes war sound as though they had to go out of compulsion or was forced to go. Moreover the airman flew in the sky not only to fight but also to fulfill his desire. Those that I fight I do not hate, Those that I guard I do not love (Yeats, 1918). There is deep irony in this statement because Yeats says that those people who fight for his country and people are the courageous man whom the poet worships and he hates those people who always try to rule and make other people to follow them. This statement signifies Yeats hatred towards British country that conquered and ruled Ireland. Although they had positive thoughts towards Germany they were insisted to revolt against by the British. In Easter 1916, British colonized Ireland and harsh anti Catholic law were passed upon Irish people, that led to increase in Irish Nationalism and it let to revolt in. So in this context, Yeats is talking about the British for being too offensive and it makes the people wonder how many Irish people suffered and had been killed during World War I. Around thirty five thousand Irish died in the First World War among one hundred forty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author assumes that through research she would discover that candidates that had fewer votes would be more inclined to take part in negative tweeting behaviors in regards to their fellow competitors during the election. The tweets that would be posted would be negative towards the frontrunner s charter versus stances on issues if candidates felt the same way on an issue. These assumptions raised many questions to research as well. Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) raised the first question of What types of messages did candidates disseminate utilizing tweets during the 2011 12 Presidential Primaries (p. 3). The next question brought up by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates more likely than front runners to include a negative tone in their tweets (p. 3). Then the third question stated by Moody, Cohen and Fournon (2013) was, Were runner up candidates more likely than front runners to attack their opponents in their tweets (p. 3) Finally, the fourth and final question raised by Moody, Cohen, and Fournon (2013) stated, What interactive units did politicians use within their tweets. When her son was only a few months old, he did of a vaccine preventable disease. If you were to ask her, she would implore you to vaccinate her children. She suffered a loss that no parent should ever have to endure. Parents should be required by law to vaccinate their children because the argument against it (regarding autism) is invalid, they keep children from getting and spreading preventable, and sometimes dangerous diseases, and they prevent loss of life. ... Like I mentioned before, Linda Anderson lost her baby due to a vaccine preventable disease. No parent should have to suffer a loss like that. The saddest part is, there are many other stories out there just like Linda s. A very young child catches a disease, their immune system isn t strong enough to fight it, the child doesn t make it. It s absolutely horrible. Another mother, Karen Alpert, says in an entry on her blog, BabySideburns, she understands that parents would do whatever they can do protect their child, but children need to be vaccinated. In the blog, she talks about how she doesn t want her children to catch a preventable disease just because some parents think they know better than doctors. The argument can be made that vaccines have ingredients that can be harmful to small children. However, these ingredients are given in such small doses that they just help the child build up an immunity to them and to the disease the vaccine is made to prevent so they won t catch chickenpox or smallpox. Parents would know this is they looked at how much of each ingredient the vaccines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Argumentative Essay On Child Labor Child Labor Hurts Everyone In the past, women and men fought for the children of America to liberate them of the burden of harsh work and give them their childhood back. Although we want to believe that child labor is now history, child labor is still significant in our time, all around the world. Today the number of children, ages 5 14, working around the world are estimated to be increasing. Children are constantly working in dangerous working environments that cost them their lives or hamper their ability them to have a basic normal childhood that children have in America. These children miss the opportunity to run and play with friends, have friends their own age, to explore the world around them that they live in every day, have the opportunities to go to school to learn about the world they live in, and expand their imagination. Instead children in some part of world are going to mines and sweatshops to work instead of to school. They are working in dangerous places instead of playing with kids their own ages, and we in America are helping with the growth of child labor. Although in America we have protected our next generation by out lawing child labor, we are constantly helping the growth of child labor in other parts of the world. How you might ask? By buying the products produced through child labor from other countries. As American consumers we need to stop buying products produced by child labor. The sources that I will be analyzing and will provide dates and facts to examine how we in America have increased the buying of products from other countries that have child labor as their number one workforce, how by buying from these countries has hurt Americans, how our import has increased, and exports decreased, and how this has hurt America s economy dramatically. • 41. The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid growth. In all this great expansion of aqueducts and dams, concerned citizens like John Muir proclaimed that more must be done to protect the majesty and beauty of California before it is all gone. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau, which published Walden, a landmark book on the topic of environmentalism, and his years exploring and camping in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, Muir began to gather like minded scientists and thinkers in San Francisco. Efforts by Muir and the formation of his Sierra Club in the 1890s eventually met with success in convincing the federal government to protect the Yosemite Valley from logging and grazing interests, preserving the area into a newly formed forest reserve concept of a national park (Fox, p. 106). Muir had less success in preserving the sister valley of Hetch Hetchy, which eventually was dammed and flooded to use as a reservoir for the inhabitants of San Francisco. Up till the 1950s, environmental activism was fractured among diverse groups with diverse causes: water quality, overpopulation, air quality, clean beaches, toxic wastes, pesticides, endangered wildlife. Yet, in 1950, the Sierra Club, led by native Californian David Bower, eventually secured its national reputation in the battle against another massive dam proposal, this time the Echo Park Dam project in Utah. ... • 42. The Assassination Of President Abraham Lincoln Essay One of the most tragic moments throughout all American history in my opinion is the Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. With no surprise I am writing about certain event that occurred leading up to, during, and after this unfortunate event. This historical event is clouded with conspiracy but I will try to avoid specifics of that particular view. Abraham Lincoln was born in a little town located within Hardin Country, Kentucky on February 12, 1809 (www.whitehouse.gov/abrahamlincoln). He grew up dirt poor and in my opinion could be considered a frontiers man just like his father was. His mother on the other hand passed away when Lincoln was at a very young age. Lincoln was also in my opinion of great intelligence, hard worker, and a very ambitious young man. He would farm and run a store in New Salem, Illinois (www.whitehouse.gov). A little less known tale about him is that he was a very good wrestler back in the day and received his nick name honest Abe for walking a library book several miles to be returned. He met the love of his life May Todd after becoming a dynamic lawyer and had four young boys. Sadly only one lived to see adult hood (www.history.com). Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States of America in 1861. At this time the states where not so united. As a matter of fact 13 of them had succeeded from the union in the same year President Lincoln was elected (1861). The historical significance of this time was known as the ...
