Schifferstadt Historical Site
It is simple to overlook a historical site or museum when it is in your local area and pass it on the
daily. Schifferstadt Architectural Museum is the historical site I continually disregarded until I had a
class trip there, it is less than a half mile away from school and I always pass it driving home, it is
bizarre that I have never visited there before the trip. Schifferstadt is located directly off of route 15
North on Rosemont avenue, it is a colonial German stone house that was built in 1758 by the Brunner
family. The historical site is currently owned by the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, and has
been since 1974. The site is different than some typical lager museums, there are no self led tours,
only docents tour individuals and groups throughout the house. The staff was extremely helpful,
insightful, and friendly and the tour was well put together and tremendously informational. There are a
few flaws that I detected throughout the visit, however, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our docent was extremely information and always had an answer to ever question someone asked.
Docents with the ability to absorbed knowledge from guests and from the actual historical site are the
most helpful for tours. I felt as if the docents were very well trained and extremely kind. Even though
the actual Brunner house is not very large and does not house many artifacts there is so much
information to learn. Some of the programs and special events that Shifferstadt offers are 3rd and 4th
grader lesson plans, gests speakers, Oktoberfest, museums by candlelight, and many more. All of these
events help raise awareness of Shifferstadt, and also the preservation of historical sites in Frederick.
Small house museums normally do not have much advertisement in the local area, and even state
wide, this can conclude the small amount of visitors at

Mgt 311 Week 4 Dead Load Analysis
Week 4 Dead load refers to the load of the structure itself while live load refers to the maximum load
that can be applied to the bridge before it stops being static. When taking in to account the information
gained in week 3 regarding the distance between applied forces and their reaction it is made apparent
that taking the live load of a structure into account becomes more complex. For example a group of
hikers walking across a bridge spaced out from each other will cause a significantly different reaction
when compared to the same group of hikers gathering together on a single section of the bridge to take
a photo. Week 6 If a structure is in static equilibrium, then any portion or segment of it must also be in
static equilibrium. With this

Mark to Market Accounting
Running head: Mark to Market Accounting
Mark to Market Accounting and Ethical Issues
Ethical Issues ACC 504
April 16, 2012
Abstract
Economic principle s rationale for requiring guidance for financial institutions is to use mark to
market accounting or fair value accounting on their financial reports. With the current economic crisis,
questions have been raised as to whether or not fair value accounting is making this crisis worse. In
this paper I review the history of fair value accounting and the ethics behind whether fair value
accounting gives an accurate picture or is it causing a need for higher capital requirements and
unnecessary concern with investors. There is a need for transparency. It is Accounting Standards and

This objections implies that a company may be cash poor with valuable assets, this ignores the fact
that a company can use temporary financing to fund current operations with future cash flows. 4.
Valuations may be flawed or imperfect. This is an understandable objection, because some assets are
more easily valued than others. That does not mean though that fair value method should not be used
when the alternative method is just as flawed.
When we look at a benefit of the fair value accounting method we see that a firm will behave
differently, and will take this method into consideration when they are purchasing this asset. The
decisions tend to be less risky if they know that they will have to devalue the asset in the future. Bad
decisions would be something that they would have to identify publicly with future marking to
market. Companies would no longer have a motivation to sell assets for the benefit of recognizing an
accounting gain. Historically a major financial event or crisis prompts reconsideration of accounting
rules governing reported asset valuations. The credit crisis in 2008 generated reconsideration. In the
1980 s the savings and loan crisis prompted accounting rules move away from historical cost
accounting. Had there been a fair value accounting system in place in the 1980 s the savings and loan
crisis would have not taken years to realize. The banks had made long term mortgage loans and
borrowed short term. When the interest

Hip Flexor Activity
During mid stance the peak height of the hip is seen to be higher on the prosthetic limb than in a non
amputee. This is a result of the reduced flexion of the prosthetic knee. Also the characteristic of the
prosthetic foot influences the peak height too. After contralateral foot contact an abrupt transition from
hip extension to flexion is seen. In the late stance, an eccentric hip flexor activity is seen as compared
to normal. This inturn generates higher hip flexor moment. This greater moment further decelerates
the extending hip and ensures that the HAT segment does not lag behind as the amputee pulls
themselves over the prosthesis.

The Importance Of Endovascular Devices
Navigation of blood vessels is an essential part in reaching a lesion or a vessel segment for treatment.
Such task is achieved using an endovascular device. The circulatory system being tortuous,
improvements to endovascular devices are being investigated. Here the process involved in improving
this medical field was by combining two technologies together: endovascular devices and ionic
electroactive polymers (i EAP).
Medical procedures such as angioplasty, coronary and peripheral, atherectomy, interventional
nephrology, interventional radiology, thoracic endovascular aortic repair, full biliary catheter
procedure require a skilled physician to operate an endovascular device. It is a wire or spring used as a
guide for placement of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Endovascular devices are usually constrained to specific characteristics. The five major characteristics
are size, length, stiffness, coating and tip configuration. Endovascular devices are made up of a
stainless steel coil which surrounds a tapered inner core, where the tip of the wire can be straight,
angled, or J shaped and some include a shaping ribbon allowing the physicians to adjust the tip angle
to their liking. Their diameter varies from 0.010 to 0.038 (0.254 mm to 0.9652 mm), many have a
diameter of 0.014 as it allows for an easier access to more places [1]. Endovascular devices can have
polymer covers, coils, coatings all of which will have a different effect on different properties. Coils
provide tactile feedback, radiopacity and maintain constant overall diameters and polymer
covers/sleeves provide optimal lubricity to overcome resistance and access to the lesion.
An Electroactive Polymer (EAP) is a polymer that undergoes a change in size or shape when subject
to an electric field. These are most commonly used in actuators and sensors. Ionic EAPs (i EAP)
require much lower voltages for actuation to occur, 1 5V compared to 10V/µm, and they have low
electromechanical coupling. This makes

Voting Rights Case Study
1. The United States constitution gives a clear definition who qualifies to be the President of the
United States of America. In Article II, Section 1, Clause 5, the constitution states that in order to
qualify the person must be a natural born citizen, be at least 35 years of age and have been at least 14
years a resident. These qualifications have been truncated in order to include only the portion of
qualification relevant to the current times. Though two of these qualifications are clear the portion of
natural born citizen has been a point of contention for quite some time. U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark, 18 S.
Ct. 456, sets a precedent for the definition of Natural Born Citizens. In this case, Wong Kim Ark

The Supreme Court also referred to the Voting Rights Act with respect to the outlawing of a durational
residential requirement in voting in the presidential and vice presidential elections. Since all states fall
under Federal Law that the state could not use this as a requirement. Since state matters are different
though they concluded that anything longer than 30 days would be too long. The Supreme Court also
looked at the restriction of travel since this residential law was a punishment on anyone who had made
a recent interstate move. Since the right to travel is a fundamental right there should not be any laws
that restrict citizen s rights to do so if there is no compelling government interest. In this case, citizens
were burdened by having their right to vote revoked. It seems that the reason why the court case was
not more controversial was because it did not remove the states power to impose residential
qualifications in other social projects. The only restriction on to the states was that the state cannot
have a residential requirement in order to allow someone to

Cultural Beliefs And Cultures Of South Africa
Cultural/Spiritual Beliefs and Ideologies
Cultural Beliefs and Influences
Everyone has cultural beliefs that may be passed down from generations, or in the society they live in,
and it is the way of leading life. It has been well documented that human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV) infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) have been the leading causes of
death among people living in South Africa. Over 1.8 million people have died from AIDS (Iwelunmor
Airhihenbuwa, 2012). The cultural practices of South Africa have influenced the wide spread of
HIV/AIDS in that country.
There is a need to take Zambian or African culture seriously in order to look at the salient elements of
cultural practices in rites of passage that influence the spread of HIV and AIDS (Moyo Muller, 2011).
Giving birth to a child is considered special, value and brings respect, and high societal status in South
African culture. If a woman has not gotten pregnant after some time of their marriage, the husband is
asked to make special arrangements with another woman to see if she gets pregnant by the husband. If
there is a problem with the husband, the family will make special arrangements with another man until
the woman conceives. This is kept secret and money is given as a gift for the favor. This is the culture
of the people of South Africa which has a great influence on the spread of HIV/AIDS due to having
multiple partners.

To what extent can developmental dyslexia be explained by...
Dyslexia literally translated from Greek as inadequate words or language is a learning disability
characterised by problems with reading, writing, spelling and speaking. The most common definition
of dyslexia is the discrepancy definition, which suggests that dyslexics are those whose reading ability
is below average for their age group, or IQ. The first case of dyslexia was reported in 1896 by Dr.
Pringle Morgan, who described an intelligent 14 year old boy who had an inability to read, as
suffering from as Pringle Morgan believed word blindness resulting from deficiencies in visual
processing. Since Pringle Morgan s initial report, there have been many other explanations of
dyslexia. This essay will attempt to evaluate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gallagher, Frith and Snowling (submitted) demonstrated that 4 year old children from families with a
first degree relative suffering from dyslexia performed worse on tests of language and speech
processing, compared to children from non dyslexic families. This study supports the phonological
deficit hypothesis as it suggests that dyslexic children show early deficiencies in speech production.
Although the role of heritability is important to consider, due to the real world implications it has of
helping to identify at risk children who are more likely to develop dyslexia, it cannot explain why
there is only a 50 per cent rate of heritability for dyslexia. There has also been very little research into
the heritability of either deficits in visual processing, or cerebellar abnormality.
Despite the support for the phonological deficit hypothesis, one of the main criticisms of the theory is
that it fails to acknowledge possible deficits in visual processing which may cause dyslexia. The
visual magnocellular deficit hypothesis (Stein, 2000) suggests that dyslexia may be caused by
deficiencies within visual processing; specifically within the magnocellular system, which is
responsible among other things for timing visual events when reading (Stein, 2001). Therefore, if our
eyes wander whilst reading, the magnocellular is responsible for bringing our focus back on target. In
dyslexics, it is suggested that

Mia Hebib s piece, Irregularities , a set of stackable rings, is comparable to The Bobrinsky Bucket .
The Bobrinsky Bucket is a brass work and is augmented in a way that makes it a luxury object; two

inscriptions, in some spots, look like they are playing bat gammon, drinking, and playing music.
Another band contains an inscription that sends good wishes to the owner. This inscription is hard to

wishes. The last register is a bunch of horsemen hunting and fighting. On the rim of the bucket is
another inscription that says who ordered it and for who it was made and who made it. On the handle
it tells us that the vessel was made in 1163. This vessel would have been used for bathing in a

Essay On Barbara Strozzi
A woman of risk, controversy, perseverance, and ambition does not even begin to describe Barbara
Strozzi. Being a woman composer in the Baroque Era was not a social norm and caused those who
pursued this career suffering, disadvantage, and negative labels. However, as one of the top women
composers and singers in the Baroque Era, Strozzi did not let negativity stop her. Strozzi, thrown into
the music world by her, father, Giulio, excelled the best she could as a woman composer, developing
her artistic skills, embracing publishing and print, and utilizing the opportunities she was given.

imagination, Strozzi was able to create sharp rhythms, frequent meter changes, developed motifs, and

melodies, and basslines that were, active and frequently playful. A composer of sensitivity and
emotional expression, allowed Barbara to composed on, her expert personal knowledge of the human

As one can see, Strozzi worked hard to ensure that she left, a precise, and as authentic, of (a) legacy of

own father, and Venice itself. However, despite her social position, Barbara was able to distinguish

disappeared in history with no monument or testament, her dedication to print allows for her legacy to

My Birthday Experience
All I can remember is my piercing red blood dripping on the bone chilling surface of the ice skating
rink. I restrained myself from looking down at my hand, knowing I wasn t going to be pleased with
the results. The thought of being fingerless traumatized me. I laid my hand on the cold surface where I
had fallen, hoping that it would numb the pain. I said to myself, It shouldn t be that bad, just take a
look. I began to slowly move my head downward, thinking about the worst possibilities. Once I set
my watery blue eyes on my finger I let out a roaring scream. July 11th, 2009, my best friend Noa s
birthday party. The plan was to meet up with my group of friends at a sushi restaurant and then take a
limo to the ice skating rink. As everyone knows, I m always extremely late to everything, so I woke up
at 7 o clock SHARP to make sure I would arrive on time to the party. People always ask me Why are
you always late? The answer is, my mother. She takes an excessive amount of time to get ready and
the last thing to do is rush her. It was already 9 o clock and the party started at 11, meaning we had to
get things going. I began to run back and forth, room to room, checking on my mother to see if she
was anywhere near ready. After a few times of bugging her she had finally finished getting ready. We
got into the car, turns out there s no gas. There goes another 15 minutes lost. Not the best start to my
day but that did not kill my vibe. I was too excited about this party to

Recruiting Orienting a New Generation
The millennial s are coming. This can be a very shocking and disturbing thing to many employers and
managers. There is a new generation entering the workforce that many see as difficult, lazy, and
foreign. While the years vary, millennial s generally are represented by people in the United States
born in between 1980 2000 (Kuhl, 2014). This is a new generation of employees who think very
differently than past generations and have a very different perception of the employee employer
relationship. Many companies are struggling with recruiting this generation into their workforce and
even more companies are plagued by extremely high attritions rates within this demographic. In this
essay the ideas of changes to recruiting and on boarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the company is bragging about its casual atmosphere, a very formal interview process may
contradict that perception (Lukens, 2014). Likewise understanding that my generation does not plan
on working more than is required so being clear about work expectations and being honest about work
life balance are important. My generation will check all of these facts against employee reviews and
will generally be able to find discrepancies quickly (Kuhl, 2014). Here items such as the ability to
telecommute or work flex hours will come off as very attractive to my generation. The second focus
point within recruiting is understanding that my generation communicates very differently. Because
my generation embraces technology so much communication is expected to be short and immediate.
Likewise my generation expects to be able to utilize technology for the application. This means
companies that utilize online tools such as LinkedIn and email will have an advantage with my
generation. Likewise my generation will not understand why it may takes weeks or months to
complete a formal hiring process (Kuhl, 2014). Companies with expatiate hiring process will be seen
as much more attractive. Lastly, power in my generation is not linked to status or money, it is linked to
knowledge. This is an extremely important thing to understand about millennial s. Millennial s really
do not value money the same way previous generations did but they do value the ability to do
something

Anthropocene Laughter in The Birds: A Socializing Function,
Human in Nature, and an Absence of Feeling
The world was once familiar with what is recognized as the Holocene; however, because of the harm
and damage drove by human kind, we are currently entering into the Anthropocene. Comedy, a
specific genre, which refers to a form of entertainment that has the main goal of igniting laughter
within an audience, has been around for centuries and is still extremely prevalent in the present day. It
dates back all the way to Ancient Greece when comedy was purely satirical. At the time, humor was
found in doing parodies of politics and social organizations. Since then, the style has gone through
tremendous transformations and in its modern age, is far different than the comedy from all those

This piece is the oldest work that Aristophanes has left behind and is celebrated for being the perfect

element in this play is still applicable and relevant to the modern day.
In Laughter (1924) author, Henri Bergson, an influential French philosopher, and fan of comedy, seeks
to further understand laughter in all of its complexity. Straightaway he establishes three ideas quite
clearly: comedy is human, laughter requires an absence of every other emotion, and it plays a huge
role in social life. He goes on further with the social aspect of laughter, even suggesting that laughter
needs cannot occur without multiple people with the following telling statement: You would hardly
appreciate the comic if you felt yourself isolated from others. Laughter appears to stand in need of an
echo [...] Our laughter is always the laughter of a group (6). Throughout the book, Bergson brings up
his own theory of laughter, seeing it as almost a part of evolution. Laughter

My Operational Definition Of Social Justice
My operational definition of social justice (the distribution of advantage and disadvantage within a
society) is controversial to my social justice (LGBT Liberation) because they have a disadvantage in
today s society. It s controversial because people today are afraid to come out because they re afraid of
other people s reactions. Everyone in today s society depends on other people s opinions. On what s
right or what s the norm . Many people feel this is a lifestyle choice not part of their make up. The
Supreme Court ruling to allow same sex marriages is still not widely accepts. The pressure of trying to
express who you are can add stress and the stereotypes by others can add an inability to have a career.
The efforts of the LGBT are opening doors for people to be themselves. Standing up for the LGBT
rights is a form of social justice. One of these advocate organizations is the National Youth Advocacy
Coalition. Teenagers as well as adults are faced with these injustices. My idea of social justice is
giving the LGBT the same rights as all other citizens and overcoming stereotypes.
Some of the groups against this social justice are religious groups and their leaders and right wing
political leaders (i.e. Tea Party). While many groups are outspoken against LGBT the biggest problem
is still with individual opinions. Many people still are afraid of what they don t understand.
The social justice issue I have chosen for my paper would be LGBT Liberation. I have

Relationship Between Female And Economic Growth Essay
A Research about the Relationship between Female Rights and Economic Growth
Yingru Ouyang
April, 2015
Economics
Abstract
Previous research has provided robust evidence for proving the positive correlation between education
and economic development. However, those studies do not specifically analyze how the female s
availability to education rights has changed over time and the implications of those changes in relation
to the economic development. Furthermore, I will also discuss how women s other rights change
contribute to economic development. Initially, to assess women s availability to these rights, I use
administrative records from CIRI Human Rights Project. I find substantial changes in the female s
rights affect the economic growth between 2005 and 2014. Those changes are used to conclude that
the progress of women s rights has a negative impact on economic growth.

not the same as the old time. In a long period of time ago, most of the women in the world are
considered as people who do not deserve to have rights, no matter women in the richest countries or
the poorest countries. For example, in 1772 B.C., one of the most civilised countries, Babylonia has

Argumentative Essay About Inner City
The phrase inner cities has been mentioned a lot during the presidential election of 2016. President

social and economic problems. It describes an area in the center of a city, however in most cities, the
center of the city is downtown. If you drive around downtown Dallas, the center of the city, the
residential areas are filled with expensive condominiums. I m sure there is not an economic problem. I

Chinese Medicine Vs Greek Medicine Essay
Similarities and Differences between Greek and Chinese Medicine When one compares Greek
medical philosophy to Chinese medical philosophy there will be distinct similarities and differences
that stand out. These similarities and differences become apparent when comparing natural and
supernatural beliefs, as well as when researching the functions and physiology of the body itself.
Another fascinating point, both Greek and Chinese medical philosophy believed in magic and used it
when practicing medicine. Both philosophies believed in the idea of dramatic wind change in regards
to sickness. There is also a cautious balance both perceived by Greek and Chinese medical philosophy

Costs And Benefits Of Public Expenditure Programs
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to critically examine and discuss the underlying theme of
differences of opinion related perceptions of costs and benefits associated with public expenditure
programs. In this course, three of the lessons that were closely connected were cost benefit analysis,
public expenditures related to social insurance and income maintenance, and expenditure programs for
the poor. The goal of this analysis is to demonstrate how perceptions of costs and benefits for
expenditure programs is often based more on rhetoric than actual fact. This paper begins with a brief
review of the take away of the three lessons from which this analysis is based. Then, a full
examination of the relationship and issue of the perception of costs and benefits of public expenditure
programs is provided.
Cost Benefit Analysis The first lesson of importance related to this analysis was the lesson on cost
benefit analysis. On the surface, cost benefit analysis is supposed to be a truly objective analysis of the
costs associated with a particular project or program, and the benefits of that program (Driesen, 2005).
If the costs outweigh the benefits, then the project or program is not undertaken. However, if the
benefits outweigh the costs, regardless of what the perception might be about the project or program,
then it is pursued. The deeper issue that must be considered is whether cost benefit analysis is purely
an objective task that is based solely on fiscal

Examples Of Narrative Essay About Military Life
It s incredible how throughout the course of nine weeks you can take an individual from a civilian to a
squared away soldier. From the pushups on the scorching rocks, having parties at the beach also
known as the marvelous sand pit to making friendships that would last a lifetime the military has truly
been a life altering experience. It s taught me how to triumph over adversity, to forget fear and that
anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Those nine weeks of vigorous work, pain, and an
immense amount of stress was completely worth it. Get off my bus, lets go. Get moving you pathetic

The Human Immune Deficiency Virus
Adolescents and HIV in Atlanta Georgia
The Human Immune deficiency Virus is an epidemic that has devastated the world since its discovery
in the year 1981. Over 30 million people in the US have succumbed to the epidemic while close to 1.1
million people are now living with the disease. Young people in the US are the most vulnerable group
and are continually at high risk of contracting HIV and AIDS. About 39% of reported HIV cases are
among youths aged between 13 29 years (Granich et al. 2011). Various studies have shown that
homosexual and bisexual youth are at high risk. It is, therefore, important to adopt programs that will
assist them to reduce those sexual behaviors that can lead to contracting the disease. It becomes a

Out of the nineteen public health in Georgia, nine of them had HIV cases rated above the national
mean. 50% of the new HIV diagnosed cases are people between the ages of 14 to 30. The youth seems
to be the ones highly affected by the disease. These infections concentrated more on the colored
people, the poor, the homeless, health challenged and those using drugs. The National AIDS Fund
describes the epidemic as, a universal set of social and structural inequities . Inequities like poverty,
illiteracy levels, homophobia, poor health care, and racial prejudices promote the wide discrepancy of
the disease effects in the community. The disease is likely to advance into a devastating stage of AIDS
since the groups cannot access health care and mostly they cannot achieve the level of treatment
required to reduce the effect of the virus on destroying the cells of immune system. To prevent more
HIV infections among in youth and promote good health education becomes a significant and most
crucial factor. This article looks into some approaches that can be pursued in educating the youth and
also some of the ways of reducing the spread of HIV among the youths. The approach is also based in
or is in line with the Healthy People 2020 objectives. The core objectives of this initiative are to attain

Mcewan s Use Of Irony In Jane Eyre
McEwan uses irony to express loss of innocence over time and because of war by using amo
chocolate. Paul Marshall is known as the chocolate millionaire (McEwan, 26) because he sells amo
chocolate to the soldiers and earns an abundant amount of money doing so. The word amo is a pun
because it shoulds like the word ammo which is used in guns. The word amo is also a reference to
Latin meaning love. In World War II, most soldiers were just a child living at home under the
supervision of their parents. Now, they are eighteen or nineteen being drafted into the war. McEwan
uses the word amo which means love presumably because the chocolate will remind the soldiers of
their home and thor innocence lost from the horrors of war over time. Paul sells ... Show more content

McEwan ends Atonement with a letter from the author to the reader. It reveals who was narrating the
novel most of the time by revealing the date London 1999 (McEwan, 350) and if the reader can recall
the age of the character and the year of that age, the reader can determine who has been narrating the
novel the entire time and has been using their point of view, As the character also confesses who they
are, they also confess they have lied throughout the novel. One of the ways we know the character is a
liar because he/she tells the reader what other characters are thinking, but of course he/she could not
possibly know what the other characters are thinking. The mass of the novel is in third person but
generally it is in third person omniscient, which means that we are usually following along in one
particular character s head. Who this character is, though, often switches around from character to
character. What was once an innocent character who begins to lose their innocence as they grow older
and serving the author s purpose is actually now telling the reader that they have not been innocent the
entire time. So, McEwan s purpose of showing how innocence is lost as time progresses is lost by
revealing who the point of view the novel is in and confessing that bits and pieces of the story are

It is stereotypically correct to say that pink is a girl s color, but that wasn t always so. The history of
how pink came to represent feminism started in WWII, it was up until then the men that were
dominantly wearing pink and were dominantly the gender that was employed. At that time, there was
a female equality/ feminist issue with women being barred into employment. Because of WWII, most
of the men in America were drafted out to war and women substituted in the absence of men s labor.
Accompanying that, women started to wear pink uniforms and aprons, including an inspirational

After making these changes the company declared themselves as the fastest growing wireless
company in the nation. If one takes these three marketing strategies and compare it to how women are
being targeted by retail, one will see that they are the same. According to the research done by Time,
there s a stronger emotional and personal connection to their mobile devices by females. The key
differences between men and woman in relation to their mobile devices is that a woman is more
engaged with her phone in a way that there is more fulfillment in getting things done with her mobile
device. The Un carrier movement is a solution primarily to American females. The strategy of getting
personal interactions with the customers is what females prefer rather than taking to an automated help
line. The second strategy of a faster data service provides an expedited access for females to turn a
passive time into an active time. For instance, when a woman does her daily activities; there are some
down time that she would rather prefer to spend some time on her phone. This is the time that is

rebranding the company into an edgy and highly differentiated market is definitely targeting women
because on all of the promotion and advertisements there is the color pink present. What s also
associated with the marketing materials are more of an alternative punk rock vibe. An electric guitar is
playing in the background and the color is used in a monochromatic theme, whereas the color pink is
the only color that is apparent. One thing that will be guaranteed in all the marketing materials since
the Un carrier would be the distinct shade of pink; which is magenta. This shade of pink is present in
all of the materials that target women. The Un carrier movement is a solution

Budget Deficit And Its Effect On The National Debt
Only eight times in the past 60 years has Britain s budget been in surplus, most recently in 2001 2002.
A budget surplus occurs when tax revenue is greater than government spending and interest payments.
Therefore, the government can use the surplus revenue to pay off the national debt. The budget deficit
is the annual amount the government has to borrow to meet the shortfall between current receipts (tax)
and government spending, for example by the end of 2009 10 our annual deficit was £170.8 billion.
The argument of the chancellor is that with national debt unsustainably high periods of economic
growth should be taken as an opportunity to pay down debt and reduce the burden for future
generations.
To analyse the projection The British Government is currently expecting to see the budget deficit turn
to a surplus in 2019/20 , it is key to first understand the proposals put forward by Chancellor George
Osborne on how this budget surplus is to be achieved. Osborne proposed a legally binding charter
regarding government spending in normal economic times which passed 320 to 258 in the House of
Commons. Essentially this means the amount that the government can spend will be capped by the
charter when the economy is growing by 1% a year or more, in order to see a budget surplus by 2020.
Furthermore Osborne plans to further decrease borrowing, which has been decreasing at a fairly high
rate since 2012 2013, in order to meet his plans of a budget surplus by 2019 20. The

Essay on Low Carbohydrate Versus Low Fat Diets
The purpose of this essay is to compare Low carb and Low Fat diets and examine their similarities and
differences. Two studies in the New England Journal of Medicine provide evidence that in the short
term, a low carbohydrate diet helped people lose weight without any adverse effects. In the last
decade, several leading nutritional scientists have taken the side effects into consideration. They have
begun to think that the low carb diet may be partly right about losing weight, and scientists are now
finally studying whether low fat diets really work. However, many people still question the low
carbohydrate diet s long term effectiveness and choose to stick to the traditional low fat diet. In the

And therefore, the fat does not get burnt off and there is no weight lost. On the other hand, in the long
term, most nutritional experts are wary of the low carbohydrate diet s recommendations because of the
dramatic, and possibly hazardous, changes the diet can have on the body. Among the many concerns
are possible vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, gastrointestinal problems, and kidney, heart and
gallbladder disease. Some short term benefits from a low fat diet have been documented, but similarly
to the low carb diet, none have held up long term. In the short term people lower their cholesterol by
eating less fatty foods. It was subsequently shown that saturated fats, as well as dietary cholesterol,
elevate plasma total and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by down regulating the LDL
receptors in the liver. There is little doubt that Americans have improved their health by lowering their
dietary intake of fat. Low fat diets are often advocated for weight reduction and to lower the risk of
coronary heart disease and certain forms of cancer. However in the short term, there is no universal
agreement about the value of low fat diets, because over time most people seem to gain the weight
back. In the long term, there have been several lasting effects of the Low fat diet. First, low fat diets
often cause an inadequate protein intake. Without protein our bodies can t rebuild properly. Low fat
diets also

Reconciling Religious and Scientific Perspectives of Creation
In the beginning was the big bang, [i] writes John Polkinghorne, a physicist turned theologian. As the
reader follows through the remainder of his cosmic creation story, the reader is intrigued at how
mystical and religious the story sounds. The space boiled, in the rapid expansion of the inflation era,
blowing the universe apart with incredible rapidity in the much less than 10 30 seconds that it lasted. .
. . The world suddenly became transparent and a universal sea of radiation was left to continue cooling

creation of stars. The death of stars follow, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak: as he pulls himself
over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.
[v] Though Jastrow treats the issue as settled and declares that scientists have finally been defeated, it
is too early to reach any judgements on the implications the new cosmology has for both science and
religion. Our image of the origin of the universe is not yet complete and further investigations must be
conducted before the towel is thrown in. Science has still much to offer to help us understand how the
universe came to be. Therefore, let us now attempt to solve the cosmic mystery of creation by
referring to the great scientific minds as our guide. Let us now rewind the story of the big bang and
look into the origins of the universe.
The idea that the universe had an origin was a result of the discovery of the expansionary universe.[vi]
The theoretical groundwork for the expansionary universe theory was conceived, ironically, by Albert
Einstein (a firm believer in the infinite and unchanging universe) in his work concerning relativity.
[vii] The expansionary universe theory was later confirmed by Edwin Hubble in the 1920 s when he

The Hundred Years War Essay
The Hundred Years War The Hundred Years War was a war between England and France in which
France defended its crown against British rule. This war had a great impact on the people of each
country.
The origin of the war goes back to the conquest of William for England. In 1066
William, the Duke of Normandy, led an army into England. He won this battle and became the king of
England. This was possible under feudalism. Feudalism is a form of social classification in which the
members of an upper class are granted fifes, or pieces of land, by higher ranking noblemen return for
their military service. The vassal, the person receiving the land, had to go through ceremony in which
they would say that they would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Life 17).
On October 19, 1337, Edward III drafted a document to Philip of Valois that said that Edward was the
rightful king of France and that Edward would no longer pay homage to Philip of the French lands
that he owned. This letter was given to him by
Henry Burghersh, the bishop of England. Philip just sat back and smiled and prepared for war (Time
Life 17). Edward drafted this document because he disagreed with the way that Philip was ruling the
land that he owned. There were dukes and lords appointed by
Philip to rule over the lands of Edward III. Edward wanted to rule them himself. The two tried to work
out their differences, but failed. This situation was made more awkward because of other economic
problems between the 2 countries. England and France depended on each other. France was England s
main supplier of salt and France depended on England for wool. English also held the port at
Bordeaux in France enabling them to control transportation along the English Channel. Philip of
Valois wanted to control the sea traffic so he began to form links with Scotland, England s

The concept of how to encourage all students to gain fully from the education system has always been
a personal philosophy of mine and since gaining at least a C grade in maths has become a given, for
most employment and further education, I wanted to research how mentoring intervention could assist
in this goal.
Mentoring
Mentoring is an initiative that has been found effective and transferable from business to education
(Wallace, Montgomery and Pomerantz, 2010), indeed Linney (1999) suggested that mentoring is a
very popular tool in various contexts and fields. In the field of education, Daloz (1987) felt that
teachers and mentors played a vital role in allowing students to gain confidence, insight and passion to
progress in their academic lives.
In the United Kingdom mentoring for young people in education has increased significantly since the
early 1990 s (Rose and Doveston, 2008) this in turn has possibly led policy makers to adopt this
educational tool as an intervention with socially excluded young people in schools (Colley, 2003).

Wic s Bankruptcy And The Loss Of Northern Brazil
Amidst the WIC s bankruptcy and the loss of Northern Brazil to Portugal, the Dutch found themselves
on the arid island of Curacao with 100,000 slaves and minimal opportunities. But the Dutch are
known for their ingenuity and they quickly rebounded from their losses even while her corporate was
itself a sinking ship. Part of their initial success revolves around them settling in Curacao before 1642.
The WIC realized how invaluable a slave trade depot would be if Northern Brazil would ever fall back
into the hands of the Portuguese. Once Curacao was established, the Dutch knew they could continue
transporting slaves to the Caribbean and then sell them to the highest bidder. Initially the highest
bidder was the Spanish because, unlike the Portuguese, they paid the WIC in cash. However, it took
some time to convince the Spanish to consider asiento contracts with them.
With the end of the Eighty Years War in 1648, Portugal had previously revolted against Spain in 1640.
Portugal, as Postma explains, had monopolized the slave trade to the Spanish colonies because they
were the only Europeans who had African trading bases that could obtain large numbers of slaves. As
mentioned, the Treaty of Tordesillas prevented Spain from entering into Africa herself. Therefore, the
Spanish had to find alternative means to acquiring their needed labor force. At first the Spanish
acquired their African slaves by way of illicit trade because they felt that the Dutch and English were

Scott Sanders Staying Put Analysis
Scott Russell Sanders s Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World counters the
orthodoxy of a nation rooted in ideas. In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of
his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic,
heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of
migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but
creates literary value himself.
A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating
adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. This combination of repetition and listing

Themes in of Mice and Men
Themes, Motifs Symbols Themes Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a

about the nature of human existence. Nearly all of the characters, including George, Lennie, Candy,
Crooks, and Curley s wife, admit, at one time or another, to having a profound sense of loneliness and
isolation. Each desires the comfort of a friend, but will settle for the attentive ear of a stranger. Curley

Motifs Motifs are recurring structures, contrasts, and literary devices that can help to develop and
inform the text s major themes. The Corrupting Power of Women The portrayal of women in Of Mice
and Men is limited and unflattering. We learn early on that Lennie and George are on the run from the
previous ranch where they worked, due to encountering trouble there with a woman.
Misunderstanding Lennie s love of soft things, a woman accused him of rape for touching her dress.
George berates Lennie for his behavior, but is convinced that women are always the cause of such
trouble. Their enticing sexuality, he believes, tempts men to behave in ways they would otherwise not.
A visit to the flophouse (a cheap hotel, or brothel) is enough of women for George, and he has no
desire for a female companion or wife. Curley s wife, the only woman to appear in Of Mice and Men,
seems initially to support George s view of marriage. Dissatisfied with her marriage to a brutish man
and bored with life on the ranch, she is constantly looking for excitement or trouble. In one of her
more revealing moments, she threatens to have the black stable hand lynched if he complains about
her to the boss. Her insistence on flirting with Lennie seals her unfortunate fate. Although Steinbeck

  • 2. Schifferstadt Historical Site It is simple to overlook a historical site or museum when it is in your local area and pass it on the daily. Schifferstadt Architectural Museum is the historical site I continually disregarded until I had a class trip there, it is less than a half mile away from school and I always pass it driving home, it is bizarre that I have never visited there before the trip. Schifferstadt is located directly off of route 15 North on Rosemont avenue, it is a colonial German stone house that was built in 1758 by the Brunner family. The historical site is currently owned by the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, and has been since 1974. The site is different than some typical lager museums, there are no self led tours, only docents tour individuals and groups throughout the house. The staff was extremely helpful, insightful, and friendly and the tour was well put together and tremendously informational. There are a few flaws that I detected throughout the visit, however, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our docent was extremely information and always had an answer to ever question someone asked. Docents with the ability to absorbed knowledge from guests and from the actual historical site are the most helpful for tours. I felt as if the docents were very well trained and extremely kind. Even though the actual Brunner house is not very large and does not house many artifacts there is so much information to learn. Some of the programs and special events that Shifferstadt offers are 3rd and 4th grader lesson plans, gests speakers, Oktoberfest, museums by candlelight, and many more. All of these events help raise awareness of Shifferstadt, and also the preservation of historical sites in Frederick. Small house museums normally do not have much advertisement in the local area, and even state wide, this can conclude the small amount of visitors at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mgt 311 Week 4 Dead Load Analysis Week 4 Dead load refers to the load of the structure itself while live load refers to the maximum load that can be applied to the bridge before it stops being static. When taking in to account the information gained in week 3 regarding the distance between applied forces and their reaction it is made apparent that taking the live load of a structure into account becomes more complex. For example a group of hikers walking across a bridge spaced out from each other will cause a significantly different reaction when compared to the same group of hikers gathering together on a single section of the bridge to take a photo. Week 6 If a structure is in static equilibrium, then any portion or segment of it must also be in static equilibrium. With this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mark to Market Accounting Running head: Mark to Market Accounting Mark to Market Accounting and Ethical Issues Ethical Issues ACC 504 April 16, 2012 Abstract Economic principle s rationale for requiring guidance for financial institutions is to use mark to market accounting or fair value accounting on their financial reports. With the current economic crisis, questions have been raised as to whether or not fair value accounting is making this crisis worse. In this paper I review the history of fair value accounting and the ethics behind whether fair value accounting gives an accurate picture or is it causing a need for higher capital requirements and unnecessary concern with investors. There is a need for transparency. It is Accounting Standards and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This objections implies that a company may be cash poor with valuable assets, this ignores the fact that a company can use temporary financing to fund current operations with future cash flows. 4. Valuations may be flawed or imperfect. This is an understandable objection, because some assets are more easily valued than others. That does not mean though that fair value method should not be used when the alternative method is just as flawed. When we look at a benefit of the fair value accounting method we see that a firm will behave differently, and will take this method into consideration when they are purchasing this asset. The decisions tend to be less risky if they know that they will have to devalue the asset in the future. Bad decisions would be something that they would have to identify publicly with future marking to market. Companies would no longer have a motivation to sell assets for the benefit of recognizing an accounting gain. Historically a major financial event or crisis prompts reconsideration of accounting rules governing reported asset valuations. The credit crisis in 2008 generated reconsideration. In the 1980 s the savings and loan crisis prompted accounting rules move away from historical cost accounting. Had there been a fair value accounting system in place in the 1980 s the savings and loan crisis would have not taken years to realize. The banks had made long term mortgage loans and borrowed short term. When the interest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hip Flexor Activity During mid stance the peak height of the hip is seen to be higher on the prosthetic limb than in a non amputee. This is a result of the reduced flexion of the prosthetic knee. Also the characteristic of the prosthetic foot influences the peak height too. After contralateral foot contact an abrupt transition from hip extension to flexion is seen. In the late stance, an eccentric hip flexor activity is seen as compared to normal. This inturn generates higher hip flexor moment. This greater moment further decelerates the extending hip and ensures that the HAT segment does not lag behind as the amputee pulls themselves over the prosthesis. noindent Coming to swing now, it is seen that during early swing the hip flexors act concentrically ... • 6. The Importance Of Endovascular Devices Navigation of blood vessels is an essential part in reaching a lesion or a vessel segment for treatment. Such task is achieved using an endovascular device. The circulatory system being tortuous, improvements to endovascular devices are being investigated. Here the process involved in improving this medical field was by combining two technologies together: endovascular devices and ionic electroactive polymers (i EAP). Medical procedures such as angioplasty, coronary and peripheral, atherectomy, interventional nephrology, interventional radiology, thoracic endovascular aortic repair, full biliary catheter procedure require a skilled physician to operate an endovascular device. It is a wire or spring used as a guide for placement of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Endovascular devices are usually constrained to specific characteristics. The five major characteristics are size, length, stiffness, coating and tip configuration. Endovascular devices are made up of a stainless steel coil which surrounds a tapered inner core, where the tip of the wire can be straight, angled, or J shaped and some include a shaping ribbon allowing the physicians to adjust the tip angle to their liking. Their diameter varies from 0.010 to 0.038 (0.254 mm to 0.9652 mm), many have a diameter of 0.014 as it allows for an easier access to more places [1]. Endovascular devices can have polymer covers, coils, coatings all of which will have a different effect on different properties. Coils provide tactile feedback, radiopacity and maintain constant overall diameters and polymer covers/sleeves provide optimal lubricity to overcome resistance and access to the lesion. An Electroactive Polymer (EAP) is a polymer that undergoes a change in size or shape when subject to an electric field. These are most commonly used in actuators and sensors. Ionic EAPs (i EAP) require much lower voltages for actuation to occur, 1 5V compared to 10V/µm, and they have low electromechanical coupling. This makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Voting Rights Case Study 1. The United States constitution gives a clear definition who qualifies to be the President of the United States of America. In Article II, Section 1, Clause 5, the constitution states that in order to qualify the person must be a natural born citizen, be at least 35 years of age and have been at least 14 years a resident. These qualifications have been truncated in order to include only the portion of qualification relevant to the current times. Though two of these qualifications are clear the portion of natural born citizen has been a point of contention for quite some time. U.S. v. Wong Kim Ark, 18 S. Ct. 456, sets a precedent for the definition of Natural Born Citizens. In this case, Wong Kim Ark alleged to be an American citizen and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Supreme Court also referred to the Voting Rights Act with respect to the outlawing of a durational residential requirement in voting in the presidential and vice presidential elections. Since all states fall under Federal Law that the state could not use this as a requirement. Since state matters are different though they concluded that anything longer than 30 days would be too long. The Supreme Court also looked at the restriction of travel since this residential law was a punishment on anyone who had made a recent interstate move. Since the right to travel is a fundamental right there should not be any laws that restrict citizen s rights to do so if there is no compelling government interest. In this case, citizens were burdened by having their right to vote revoked. It seems that the reason why the court case was not more controversial was because it did not remove the states power to impose residential qualifications in other social projects. The only restriction on to the states was that the state cannot have a residential requirement in order to allow someone to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Cultural Beliefs And Cultures Of South Africa Cultural/Spiritual Beliefs and Ideologies Cultural Beliefs and Influences Everyone has cultural beliefs that may be passed down from generations, or in the society they live in, and it is the way of leading life. It has been well documented that human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) have been the leading causes of death among people living in South Africa. Over 1.8 million people have died from AIDS (Iwelunmor Airhihenbuwa, 2012). The cultural practices of South Africa have influenced the wide spread of HIV/AIDS in that country. There is a need to take Zambian or African culture seriously in order to look at the salient elements of cultural practices in rites of passage that influence the spread of HIV and AIDS (Moyo Muller, 2011). Giving birth to a child is considered special, value and brings respect, and high societal status in South African culture. If a woman has not gotten pregnant after some time of their marriage, the husband is asked to make special arrangements with another woman to see if she gets pregnant by the husband. If there is a problem with the husband, the family will make special arrangements with another man until the woman conceives. This is kept secret and money is given as a gift for the favor. This is the culture of the people of South Africa which has a great influence on the spread of HIV/AIDS due to having multiple partners. Religious Beliefs versus Spiritual Beliefs and Values ... • 9. To what extent can developmental dyslexia be explained by... Dyslexia literally translated from Greek as inadequate words or language is a learning disability characterised by problems with reading, writing, spelling and speaking. The most common definition of dyslexia is the discrepancy definition, which suggests that dyslexics are those whose reading ability is below average for their age group, or IQ. The first case of dyslexia was reported in 1896 by Dr. Pringle Morgan, who described an intelligent 14 year old boy who had an inability to read, as suffering from as Pringle Morgan believed word blindness resulting from deficiencies in visual processing. Since Pringle Morgan s initial report, there have been many other explanations of dyslexia. This essay will attempt to evaluate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gallagher, Frith and Snowling (submitted) demonstrated that 4 year old children from families with a first degree relative suffering from dyslexia performed worse on tests of language and speech processing, compared to children from non dyslexic families. This study supports the phonological deficit hypothesis as it suggests that dyslexic children show early deficiencies in speech production. Although the role of heritability is important to consider, due to the real world implications it has of helping to identify at risk children who are more likely to develop dyslexia, it cannot explain why there is only a 50 per cent rate of heritability for dyslexia. There has also been very little research into the heritability of either deficits in visual processing, or cerebellar abnormality. Despite the support for the phonological deficit hypothesis, one of the main criticisms of the theory is that it fails to acknowledge possible deficits in visual processing which may cause dyslexia. The visual magnocellular deficit hypothesis (Stein, 2000) suggests that dyslexia may be caused by deficiencies within visual processing; specifically within the magnocellular system, which is responsible among other things for timing visual events when reading (Stein, 2001). Therefore, if our eyes wander whilst reading, the magnocellular is responsible for bringing our focus back on target. In dyslexics, it is suggested that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mia Hebib s piece, Irregularities , a set of stackable rings, is comparable to The Bobrinsky Bucket . The Bobrinsky Bucket is a brass work and is augmented in a way that makes it a luxury object; two artisans, a caster and a decorator, out of brass with copper and silver inlay , made it. The last register is a bunch of horsemen hunting and fighting. On the rim of the bucket is another inscription that says who ordered it and for who it was made and who made it. • 11. Essay On Barbara Strozzi A woman of risk, controversy, perseverance, and ambition does not even begin to describe Barbara Strozzi. Being a woman composer in the Baroque Era was not a social norm and caused those who pursued this career suffering, disadvantage, and negative labels. However, as one of the top women composers and singers in the Baroque Era, Strozzi did not let negativity stop her. Strozzi, thrown into the music world by her, father, Giulio, excelled the best she could as a woman composer, developing her artistic skills, embracing publishing and print, and utilizing the opportunities she was given. 1600 Venice, under the Republican constitution, was no place for a woman, for they were, absolutely excluded from public life. Using her imagination, Strozzi was able to create sharp rhythms, frequent meter changes, developed motifs, and harmonic structure, etc. to allow her text to be heard. Barbara also wrote incredibly, attractive melodies, and basslines that were, active and frequently playful. A composer of sensitivity and emotional expression, allowed Barbara to composed on, her expert personal knowledge of the human voice, and created works with techniques that were ahead of her time. As one can see, Strozzi worked hard to ensure that she left, a precise, and as authentic, of (a) legacy of her arts as she could. She was a woman who, like so many others in her time, was used by men, her own father, and Venice itself. • 12. My Birthday Experience All I can remember is my piercing red blood dripping on the bone chilling surface of the ice skating rink. I restrained myself from looking down at my hand, knowing I wasn t going to be pleased with the results. The thought of being fingerless traumatized me. I laid my hand on the cold surface where I had fallen, hoping that it would numb the pain. I said to myself, It shouldn t be that bad, just take a look. I began to slowly move my head downward, thinking about the worst possibilities. Once I set my watery blue eyes on my finger I let out a roaring scream. July 11th, 2009, my best friend Noa s birthday party. The plan was to meet up with my group of friends at a sushi restaurant and then take a limo to the ice skating rink. As everyone knows, I m always extremely late to everything, so I woke up at 7 o clock SHARP to make sure I would arrive on time to the party. People always ask me Why are you always late? The answer is, my mother. She takes an excessive amount of time to get ready and the last thing to do is rush her. It was already 9 o clock and the party started at 11, meaning we had to get things going. I began to run back and forth, room to room, checking on my mother to see if she was anywhere near ready. After a few times of bugging her she had finally finished getting ready. We got into the car, turns out there s no gas. There goes another 15 minutes lost. • 13. Recruiting Orienting a New Generation The millennial s are coming. This can be a very shocking and disturbing thing to many employers and managers. There is a new generation entering the workforce that many see as difficult, lazy, and foreign. While the years vary, millennial s generally are represented by people in the United States born in between 1980 2000 (Kuhl, 2014). This is a new generation of employees who think very differently than past generations and have a very different perception of the employee employer relationship. Many companies are struggling with recruiting this generation into their workforce and even more companies are plagued by extremely high attritions rates within this demographic. In this essay the ideas of changes to recruiting and on boarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the company is bragging about its casual atmosphere, a very formal interview process may contradict that perception (Lukens, 2014). Likewise understanding that my generation does not plan on working more than is required so being clear about work expectations and being honest about work life balance are important. My generation will check all of these facts against employee reviews and will generally be able to find discrepancies quickly (Kuhl, 2014). Here items such as the ability to telecommute or work flex hours will come off as very attractive to my generation. The second focus point within recruiting is understanding that my generation communicates very differently. Because my generation embraces technology so much communication is expected to be short and immediate. Likewise my generation expects to be able to utilize technology for the application. This means companies that utilize online tools such as LinkedIn and email will have an advantage with my generation. Likewise my generation will not understand why it may takes weeks or months to complete a formal hiring process (Kuhl, 2014). Companies with expatiate hiring process will be seen as much more attractive. Lastly, power in my generation is not linked to status or money, it is linked to knowledge. Laughter In The Birds Anthropocene Laughter in The Birds: A Socializing Function, Human in Nature, and an Absence of Feeling The world was once familiar with what is recognized as the Holocene; however, because of the harm and damage drove by human kind, we are currently entering into the Anthropocene. Comedy, a specific genre, which refers to a form of entertainment that has the main goal of igniting laughter within an audience, has been around for centuries and is still extremely prevalent in the present day. It dates back all the way to Ancient Greece when comedy was purely satirical. At the time, humor was found in doing parodies of politics and social organizations. Since then, the style has gone through tremendous transformations and in its modern age, is far different than the comedy from all those years ago. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This piece is the oldest work that Aristophanes has left behind and is celebrated for being the perfect example of a true ancient comedy. Even as years go by, several critics maintain that the comedic element in this play is still applicable and relevant to the modern day. In Laughter (1924) author, Henri Bergson, an influential French philosopher, and fan of comedy, seeks to further understand laughter in all of its complexity. Straightaway he establishes three ideas quite clearly: comedy is human, laughter requires an absence of every other emotion, and it plays a huge role in social life. He goes on further with the social aspect of laughter, even suggesting that laughter needs cannot occur without multiple people with the following telling statement: You would hardly appreciate the comic if you felt yourself isolated from others. Laughter appears to stand in need of an echo [...] Our laughter is always the laughter of a group (6). My Operational Definition Of Social Justice My operational definition of social justice (the distribution of advantage and disadvantage within a society) is controversial to my social justice (LGBT Liberation) because they have a disadvantage in today s society. It s controversial because people today are afraid to come out because they re afraid of other people s reactions. Everyone in today s society depends on other people s opinions. On what s right or what s the norm . Many people feel this is a lifestyle choice not part of their make up. The Supreme Court ruling to allow same sex marriages is still not widely accepts. The pressure of trying to express who you are can add stress and the stereotypes by others can add an inability to have a career. The efforts of the LGBT are opening doors for people to be themselves. Standing up for the LGBT rights is a form of social justice. One of these advocate organizations is the National Youth Advocacy Coalition. Teenagers as well as adults are faced with these injustices. My idea of social justice is giving the LGBT the same rights as all other citizens and overcoming stereotypes. Some of the groups against this social justice are religious groups and their leaders and right wing political leaders (i.e. Tea Party). While many groups are outspoken against LGBT the biggest problem is still with individual opinions. Many people still are afraid of what they don t understand. • 16. Relationship Between Female And Economic Growth Essay A Research about the Relationship between Female Rights and Economic Growth Yingru Ouyang April, 2015 Economics Abstract Previous research has provided robust evidence for proving the positive correlation between education and economic development. However, those studies do not specifically analyze how the female s availability to education rights has changed over time and the implications of those changes in relation to the economic development. Furthermore, I will also discuss how women s other rights change contribute to economic development. Initially, to assess women s availability to these rights, I use administrative records from CIRI Human Rights Project. I find substantial changes in the female s rights affect the economic growth between 2005 and 2014. Those changes are used to conclude that the progress of women s rights has a negative impact on economic growth. Keywords: (Women s economic rights women s political rights women s social rights economic development) Introduction Nowadays, women enjoyed their equal legal rights with men. But this phenomenon was not the same as the old time. In a long period of time ago, most of the women in the world are considered as people who do not deserve to have rights, no matter women in the richest countries or the poorest countries. For example, in 1772 B.C., one of the most civilised countries, Babylonia has issued the world s first law called Code of Hammurabi. Code of Hammurabi combined a lot of judicial ... Costs And Benefits Of Public Expenditure Programs Introduction The purpose of this paper is to critically examine and discuss the underlying theme of differences of opinion related perceptions of costs and benefits associated with public expenditure programs. In this course, three of the lessons that were closely connected were cost benefit analysis, public expenditures related to social insurance and income maintenance, and expenditure programs for the poor. The goal of this analysis is to demonstrate how perceptions of costs and benefits for expenditure programs is often based more on rhetoric than actual fact. This paper begins with a brief review of the take away of the three lessons from which this analysis is based. Then, a full examination of the relationship and issue of the perception of costs and benefits of public expenditure programs is provided. Cost Benefit Analysis The first lesson of importance related to this analysis was the lesson on cost benefit analysis. On the surface, cost benefit analysis is supposed to be a truly objective analysis of the costs associated with a particular project or program, and the benefits of that program (Driesen, 2005). If the costs outweigh the benefits, then the project or program is not undertaken. However, if the benefits outweigh the costs, regardless of what the perception might be about the project or program, then it is pursued. The deeper issue that must be considered is whether cost benefit analysis is purely an objective task that is based solely on fiscal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Budget Deficit And Its Effect On The National Debt Only eight times in the past 60 years has Britain s budget been in surplus, most recently in 2001 2002. A budget surplus occurs when tax revenue is greater than government spending and interest payments. Therefore, the government can use the surplus revenue to pay off the national debt. The budget deficit is the annual amount the government has to borrow to meet the shortfall between current receipts (tax) and government spending, for example by the end of 2009 10 our annual deficit was £170.8 billion. The argument of the chancellor is that with national debt unsustainably high periods of economic growth should be taken as an opportunity to pay down debt and reduce the burden for future generations. To analyse the projection The British Government is currently expecting to see the budget deficit turn to a surplus in 2019/20 , it is key to first understand the proposals put forward by Chancellor George Osborne on how this budget surplus is to be achieved. Osborne proposed a legally binding charter regarding government spending in normal economic times which passed 320 to 258 in the House of Commons. Essentially this means the amount that the government can spend will be capped by the charter when the economy is growing by 1% a year or more, in order to see a budget surplus by 2020. Furthermore Osborne plans to further decrease borrowing, which has been decreasing at a fairly high rate since 2012 2013, in order to meet his plans of a budget surplus by 2019 20. The ... Among the many concerns are possible vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, gastrointestinal problems, and kidney, heart and gallbladder disease. Some short term benefits from a low fat diet have been documented, but similarly to the low carb diet, none have held up long term. In the short term people lower their cholesterol by eating less fatty foods. It was subsequently shown that saturated fats, as well as dietary cholesterol, elevate plasma total and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by down regulating the LDL receptors in the liver. There is little doubt that Americans have improved their health by lowering their dietary intake of fat. Low fat diets are often advocated for weight reduction and to lower the risk of coronary heart disease and certain forms of cancer. In addition to this I was an active mathematics teacher, teaching key stages 3 to 5. The mathematics department achieved 84% pass rate at A* to C grade. Next years cohort is predicted to achieve.... The concept of how to encourage all students to gain fully from the education system has always been a personal philosophy of mine and since gaining at least a C grade in maths has become a given, for most employment and further education, I wanted to research how mentoring intervention could assist in this goal. Mentoring Mentoring is an initiative that has been found effective and transferable from business to education (Wallace, Montgomery and Pomerantz, 2010), indeed Linney (1999) suggested that mentoring is a very popular tool in various contexts and fields. In the field of education, Daloz (1987) felt that teachers and mentors played a vital role in allowing students to gain confidence, insight and passion to progress in their academic lives. In the United Kingdom mentoring for young people in education has increased significantly since the early 1990 s (Rose and Doveston, 2008) this in turn has possibly led policy makers to adopt this educational tool as an intervention with socially excluded young people in schools (Colley, 2003). • 36. Wic s Bankruptcy And The Loss Of Northern Brazil Amidst the WIC s bankruptcy and the loss of Northern Brazil to Portugal, the Dutch found themselves on the arid island of Curacao with 100,000 slaves and minimal opportunities. But the Dutch are known for their ingenuity and they quickly rebounded from their losses even while her corporate was itself a sinking ship. Part of their initial success revolves around them settling in Curacao before 1642. The WIC realized how invaluable a slave trade depot would be if Northern Brazil would ever fall back into the hands of the Portuguese. Once Curacao was established, the Dutch knew they could continue transporting slaves to the Caribbean and then sell them to the highest bidder. Initially the highest bidder was the Spanish because, unlike the Portuguese, they paid the WIC in cash. However, it took some time to convince the Spanish to consider asiento contracts with them. With the end of the Eighty Years War in 1648, Portugal had previously revolted against Spain in 1640. Portugal, as Postma explains, had monopolized the slave trade to the Spanish colonies because they were the only Europeans who had African trading bases that could obtain large numbers of slaves. As mentioned, the Treaty of Tordesillas prevented Spain from entering into Africa herself. Therefore, the Spanish had to find alternative means to acquiring their needed labor force. At first the Spanish acquired their African slaves by way of illicit trade because they felt that the Dutch and English were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Scott Sanders Staying Put Analysis Scott Russell Sanders s Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World counters the orthodoxy of a nation rooted in ideas. In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic, heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but creates literary value himself. A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. This combination of repetition and listing creates a rhythm when addressing Rushdie s opposing philosophy: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also introduces multiple logical examples following Aristotle s idea of logos, establishing a claim deviating from Rushdie s and strengthening credibility within his audience intellectuals like himself. Sanders employs this technique to drive a seemingly concurring agreement with Rushdie s beliefs; however, this changes in the next paragraph: Lord knows we could do with less nationalism (to say nothing of its ugly siblings racism, religious sectarianism, or class snobbery). With his audience in mind, Sanji 2 Sanders weaves playful, respectful sarcasm together with listing to introduce a differing belief of geographical homelands, further emphasized by his parentheses. Applying multiple rhetorical techniques is something vital when counteracting a respected writer such as Rushdie; likewise, Sanders employs similar appeal to his audience in the closing lines of the passage: By setting in,

  • 39. Themes in of Mice and Men Themes, Motifs Symbols Themes Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. The Predatory Nature of Human Existence Of Mice and Men teaches a grim lesson about the nature of human existence. Nearly all of the characters, including George, Lennie, Candy, Crooks, and Curley s wife, admit, at one time or another, to having a profound sense of loneliness and isolation. Each desires the comfort of a friend, but will settle for the attentive ear of a stranger. Curley s wife admits to Candy, Crooks, and Lennie that she is unhappily married, and Crooks tells Lennie that life is no good without a companion to turn to in times of confusion and need. The characters are rendered helpless by their isolation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Motifs Motifs are recurring structures, contrasts, and literary devices that can help to develop and inform the text s major themes. The Corrupting Power of Women The portrayal of women in Of Mice and Men is limited and unflattering. We learn early on that Lennie and George are on the run from the previous ranch where they worked, due to encountering trouble there with a woman. Misunderstanding Lennie s love of soft things, a woman accused him of rape for touching her dress. George berates Lennie for his behavior, but is convinced that women are always the cause of such trouble. Their enticing sexuality, he believes, tempts men to behave in ways they would otherwise not. A visit to the flophouse (a cheap hotel, or brothel) is enough of women for George, and he has no desire for a female companion or wife. Curley s wife, the only woman to appear in Of Mice and Men, seems initially to support George s view of marriage. Dissatisfied with her marriage to a brutish man and bored with life on the ranch, she is constantly looking for excitement or trouble. In one of her more revealing moments, she threatens to have the black stable hand lynched if he complains about her to the boss. Her insistence on flirting with Lennie seals her unfortunate fate.
