The Invention Of Snowboarding
The first ever snowboard was not even a snowboard. The idea that first introduced the idea of
snowboarding was called a Snurfer. A Snurfer was a simple board and rope that Sherman Poppen
made for his daughter in the year of 1965. His invention became popular and he started selling
them. Then, Jake Burton got the idea to strap his feet down to the board. It was a modified
snurfer with bindings. He made a company called Burton and his company made the first official
snowboard in 1980. In 1983, Jeff Grell made the highback bindings. These are the bindings that are
most popularly used today. However, competition really boosted the sport s popularity which
caused people to make the sport better and more enjoyable. Competition was one of the most

Mohawk Research Papers
Mohawk Overview Also referred to as a Mohican, a Mohawk is a hairstyle which involves
shaving both sides of the head and leaving a strip of hair down the middle. It originated from the
Native American tribe of Iroquois. Traditionally, the hair was not shaven but plucked from the
head. There is also a reverse form of this hairstyle where the middle of the head is shaved leaving
hair on both sides. This hairstyle comes in different styles, features, formats, and varieties. It is a
hairstyle that has existed for many years which keeps evolving. Types of Mohawks Liberty spikes

In his hairstyle, the sides are not shaved completely but retain some short hair. To achieve that, a
blade is not used but instead clippers for shaving the sides. The strip at the centre of the head is
then left to a maximum of 2 inches. The length of the hair at the centre is established using a
straight razor. The appearance thus remains textured since the hair strands are not uniform. As
the hair moves towards the back of the head, it fades to a shorter length. A strong hair gel is then
used to hold this sort of short hair. Since it omits the unnecessary shaving of hair at the sides of
the head, it is seen as a milder form of this hairstyle. The sides of the head are trimmed just a
little bit so that there can be a distinct difference in hair length with the middle part. This makes a
lot of people to find it more appealing. It is also an attractive form of this hairstyle without having
to appear gothic or rebellious. It can be used for many types of events such as partying, formal
occasions, and even going for

Heavy Metals And Its Effects
1.Introduction
Heavy metals and their salts (Cu, Zn, Hg, Pb, Co, Ni,) are widespread industrial pollutants. In the
waters they come from natural sources (rocks, the surface layers of soil and groundwater), the
wastewater of many industrial enterprises and rain (polluted with smoke emissions). Heavy metals,
as trace elements, are constantly encountered in natural waters and aquatic bodies depending on the
geochemical conditions.
Heavy metals are quite stable and cannot be destroyed. Entering the ponds, they are included in the
cycling of matter and subjected to various transformations. Inorganic compounds are rapidly
solubilized in water and transferred into poorly soluble hydroxides, carbonates, sulfides and
phosphates. Later, these insoluble products settle down and contaminate the bottom sediments.
Under the influence of living organisms (bacteria, fungi and others) mercury, tin, and arsenic
undergo methylation, becoming more toxic alkyl compound. Moreover, metals can be accumulated
in various organisms and incorporated in the food chain and cause poisoning.
This project focuses on the elimination of cobalt (II) metal ions from contaminated waters. Even
though Co (II) appears to be one of the essential elements to human body at low concentrations,
when cobalt is too concentrated; it may damage human body and may cause diseases such as
asthma and pneumonia1. Cobalt pollution may be caused by many alloys (super alloys in gas

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sign Language
As most sign language users are untrained in reading notation systems there is need to presentoutput
of a translation in a Sign Language space. Morrissey (2008) and Othman and Jemni(2011) applied
the technique of translation into a writing notation in their systems. Two mainoptions have been
made of use in signlanguage synthesis. The first main method of sign language synthesis is to use
concatenated recordings of videos toproduce the sequence of gestures required. Recordings of a
signer perfoming gestures are storedand retrieved in some form of storage system. This approach
has the advantage of providingmore lifelike signing comparable to what one would experience in
real life. Also the likelihood oferrors is reduced by having a professional... Show more content on

Chuang et al(2006) proposes a method that searchesthrough the collection of video clips and
calculates the most suitable transition betwwen thejoining sign clips. The method makes use of a
non uniform rational B spline approach for theclip selection. One fault in making use of this
method is due the need for a large database ofclips so as to come up with the best possible transition
movements between signs. Also theprocess involving the selection makes the overall system take a
huge perfomance hit. Solina etal(2001) proposes a system where each of the video clips in the
database has the same start andend position. in this case, it is suggested that the signer starts and
ends the sign at the sameposition at the with both arms on the chest of the signer s body. Thus in
joining clips togetherthere is no transition movement. The main drawback of this system being that
the resultantvideo would result in an unnatural siging sentence even though there is smmoth
transitionwithin the video. it also additionally a more advanced method applying computer vision
tochoose the most suitable transition between video clips. An alternative method to using recorded

Artificial Reefs Used as Fisheries
The main objective of our study is to determine if artificial reefs can be used as a fisheries
enhancement or conservation tool in Narragansett Bay. Using a variety of research techniques, we
will attempt to answer the following questions: (1) do artificial reefs increase the abundance (and
biomass) of important species of demersal sport fish? Or (2) do reefsattract existing numbers of
fish to the reef and increase the rate of exploitation, thus potentially decreasing localized
populations (or communities)? By building a carefully replicated network of artificial reefs, we
will advance research on the impact of artificial reefs. In order to address our study questions, we
propose the construction of 0.25 acre artificial reefs (0.5 acre area) using pre fabricated reef
modules in three locations of Narragansett Bay. The creation of small scale experimental reefs will
not only provide long term research stations but will also improve benthic habitat conditions in an
area of soft sediments.
The performance of artificial reefs varies considerably, depending on materials used as well as
location of deployment and intended results. Breakup, movement, and burial have been reported to
occur in reef programs. The location and design of reef complexes must be carefully chosen to
balance the goals and objectives of a project with environmental and social constraints (Table 1).
We used geospatial and fisheriesdata to ensure that our reef locations are placed in the most suitable

City Life Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1 of experiencing cities was all about the foundations of the constantly growing
metropolitan city. It includes everything from facts about how fast our cities are growing to city
as a state of mind. But the section that intrigued me the most was symbolic interactionism and
the study of city life. symbolic interactivity means that people are the ones who play an active
role in their environment. In other words the area you live in is going to be determined by the
way you interact with others and how you live your life. This idea was not one that shocked me
but allowed me to grasp a greater understanding as to why different cities are the way they are.
For example, i m from a small town in California with little to no crime. It is a pretty affluent
area and people are pretty friendly. However you drive about 30 miles and you are now in one of
the most dangerous cities in america, Oakland California. Here deadly shootings are a regular
basis along with many other crimes. The citizens of these towns are usually right at the or below
the poverty line. So to introduce this theory to me gives me a greater understanding as to why
certain cities are dangerous and some aren t. It simply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oakland has been in the news for many years now about its crumbling government. Schools
fundings are low, they cut the police force in almost half and no business can flourish here. These
are all due to the fact that the people in charge simply cannot do their job effectively. In order for a
city like this to get back on track it must first get leadership willing to do what it takes to make a
difference. Then and only then will you start to see this city make a turn for the

freshmen in to give them a home base lifestyle and sense of belonging (Robbins and Florsheim

Development and Use of the The DF-1 Cell Line
The DF 1 cell line was first created in 1997, by D. Foster and L. Foster at the University of
Minnesota, USA. DF 1 is a non tumorigenic chicken embryo fibroblast cell line derived from 10
day old East Lansing Line eggs. Primary chicken embryonic fibroblasts were originally dissociated
and grown in a laboratory culture setting. The cells were then passaged until they began to
deteriorate, then concentrated to maintain around 30 60% confluence. The non aging cells were
then identified and grown for additional passages. This passaging resulted in the creation of the
spontaneously immortalized chicken cellline DF 1. Under a microscope, live adherent cells take on
a spindle shaped form, whereas dead cells will present as more rounded than spindle like. When
culturing a DF 1 cell line, the most common medium used for growth is a minimal essential
medium, with 5% fetal calf serum. The cell line is then grown/incubated at 39В° Celsius. The DF
1 cell line is often used in the research of avian viruses. It is unique to the group of mammalian cell
linesin that it does not contain endogenous sequences linked to avian sarcoma and leukosis, a
first of its kind in continuous avian cell lines. The study of avian retrovirology relies heavily on
access to a continuous cell line, and the DF 1 cell line is both continuous and non transformed.
Because the cell line lacks any sequences related to avian viruses, it is most popularly used to
study the effects of these viruses on cells as they

Advertising for 4G Technology with Sprint
Introduction
One of the most heavily advertised areas of technology in the United States currently is 4G
technology. Every commercial and advertisement promises fast speeds, great coverage, and
exceptional service altogether. However, the competition proves to be extreme and unbalanced.
Since its introduction on Sprint s network, 4G, or fourth generation cellular technology, has
revolutionized both the telecommunication arena while spilling into other technological fields.
There is no end in sight for the relentless competition of expanding 4G technologies as coverage
and network speeds continue to increase. Currently, 4G technology is offered by all major
telecommunication carriers in the United States: Verizon, AT T, T Mobile, and Sprint. However,
the term 4G has been loosely used. The best example of this can be associated with Sprint. The
initial 4G technology Sprint offered was based of WiMAX technology. WiMAX proved to be fast
technology, but lackluster in its performance and capabilities in regards to LTE. LTE has
become the primary 4G technology in the United States while development of WiMAX has
ceased. In addition, Sprint s 4G vision has switched to LTE. The question is raised Why did LTE
win over WiMAX? . From many perspectives, LTE proved to be the superior technology.
The Power of Networking One can easily argue that one of the greatest things that developed in the
latter half of the twentieth century was the internet. By combining networks of networks

Applying A Gender Based Violence Approach Essay
Applying a gender based violence approach, this paper will explore life realities for a Moroccan
women s center serving women from 18 to 70 years of age, mothers, educated or not, living in a
rural and urban environment and, for too many of them, their horrific predicaments. Primary
research methods will integrate participant observation and semi structured interviews (DeWalt and
DeWalt 2002) with females victims of gender based violence(GBV) and the center staff members.
This study aspires to determine what aspects lead Moroccan women to seek assistance, categories
of assistance available, challenges Moroccan women face and future opportunities for recognition
and socio legal support.
Results denote a lack of social support to women victim of violence, lack of social and economic
support for the center we will rest our research on, degraded service capacity, and the practice of
deceit in interactions between women and staff ingrained in a cultural notions of shame. Future
prospects for program development and sustainability will also be discussed. This ethnographic
proposition we will submit hopes to promote a richer understanding of gender based violence in
local contexts through the investigation of women victims experiences of gender based violence in
Moroccan society and how these dramatic encounters impact the reality and capabilities of social
service and legal provision.

The Concert Of Mozart s Concerto Symphony
On Saturday April 16, 2016, I went with my fiancГ© to Jones Hall to see the Houston Symphony
perform a classical concert. The concert consisted of two pieces. Mozart s Violin Concerto No. 3
in G major and Bruckner s Symphony No. 7 in E major. The orchestra was conducted by Thomas
Sondergard from Denmark. The concert lasted for about 2 hours with a 15 minute intermission.
Although the concert started a little late, the first piece was Mozart s ConcertoNo. 3, which he
composed when he was 19. The instruments played in this piece were 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 horns,
and strings. The violinsoloist was Karen Gomyo. There were 3 movements to this piece, and as I
learned in class, this was definitely a classical concerto.
The first movement is played Allegro in Sonata form. The mood of this movement was bright and
cheerful. I liked how the orchestra accompanied the violin. In the second movement it was played
Adagio. Because the movement was slower, the mood was a little more tranquil. I liked this
movement, because you could hear the violin solo playing an octave higher than the orchestra.
The third movement which was the finale, was played Rondeau Allegro. In this movement, I
really enjoyed the playfulness of this movement. The violin solo was quite impressive. Overall,
this entire piece was quite enjoyable, I really liked the playing back and forth with the solo and
orchestra. The orchestra played in tune and everyone was definitely playing in rhythm and were
well prepared. I

Lego Case Study for

How did the information systems and organization diging changes implemented by Knundstorp
align with the changes in business strategy.
The Lego Cast Study is about how the toy company has been affected by the rapid and vast change
in the way children play with toys and their preference of the same. Historically, Lego s have been a
top rated toy for children and when that quickly changed Lego was not expecting it and
furthermore not prepared. The company began to lose money, by 2004, the company found itself
close to extinction, losing $1 million a day. (Saunders Pearlson , 2013) A new CEO, Jorgen Vig

This allowed Lego to better serve customers by enhancing their overtaxed order management and
fulfillment systems. (Pearlson Saunders)
At first glance many would discount the idea that Lego deployed a strategy of hyper competition.
However, when we consider some of the characteristics of hyper competition, such as profit
maximization, emphasis on customer satisfaction, and the ability to dynamically adjust allocation
of organizational resources, we see that Lego did adopt a hypercompetitive strategy.
4. What advise would you give Knudstorp to keep Lego competitive, growing and relevant?
I think Knudstorp did an amazing job with coming into Lego and taking a failing business to a
successful one by building a block style work environment. He made standards which the
employees were to follow which allowed them more creative freedom and incentives to want to
improve upon the great quality of their products. One suggestion I would give Knudstorp would
be to spend more time focusing on his competition and to see what Lego could do to model what
has worked for their company and how it would fit in best with Lego. Mattel is Lego s biggest
competition in the market place. Mattel has advanced in the market place due to their new product
development effort. Toy developers are encouraged to think globally from

My Experience At My Life
September 14th, 2011, the last day I have in Manado, Indonesia. My family and friends were in
the airport, waiting for me, while I was checking in my luggage. When I went back, all of my
friends were standing and smiling at me. I know they were sad, but they tried to cover it with
their smile. I gave each one of them a t shirt that has writing about them, and they gave me the
same thing. We talked, laughed, and joked around until it was time for me to go. Tears were
falling down on their cheeks, when they heard that it was time for me to go. I gave my family and
friends a hug, and went to the terminal. My journey started, when I got in to the airplane. It was a
long long journey, I thought, because it took hours to get to Los Angeles. I was excited at first, but
then sad again when I think about home. I was crying while I was on the airplane, thinking, how
my life is going to be in Harbert Hills. I had some stops. The first stop was at Changi Airport,
Singapore. We have to stay there for a night, until the next flight (the next day). The airport is
really nice and clean. They have free internet, a free place to rest, and it is very safe too, so I do
not have to worry about my suit case. I was on the computer most of the night, checking my e
mails and Facebook. I could not sleep that night, because I was thinking about my life at home,
and again, how is it going to be in Harbert Hills. The second stop was at Narita Airport, Tokyo,

Vasco Da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan And Hernan Cortes
Throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth century, Europeans widened their views on exploration.
They ventured out into unknown territories and countries that have never before seen a person
from Europe. These explorers would search the world, mainly looking for new people to convert to
Christianity or for wealth and riches. Countries such as Portugal, Spain, and England all developed
ways to gain wealth through travel, whether it be sending people to explore and hopefully find
valuables, or expanding economic theories. People such as Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan,
and Hernan Cortes, along with the idea of mercantilism, attempted to gain wealth through
exploration.
Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer, tried to gain wealth by venturing to India. The king had
asked da Gama to find a route to India that was easy to access. Vasco da Gama left for India on
July 8, 1497, and reached India for the first time on May 20, 1498 (Biography.com). When he
arrived at India for the second time, Portugal was able to set up trading posts and gain more
money, all because he had made the journey overseas. Throughout his adventures in India, Vasco
da Gama documented his experiences in his journal. His arrival in India and confrontation with
the king was one of these things. Da Gama says, They asked what he [da Gama] sought so far
away from home, and he told them that we came in search of Christians and of spices, (Document

The Power of Freedom
An Indispensable Right There are a variety of birds that make wonderful house pets, and most of
these birds don t mind living in a cage. However, this is not the case for the cockatiel. When the
cockatiel is not able to fly freely and have social interaction with other birds of its type, it
becomes depressed and plucks out all of its feathers, one by one. It longs for freedom. The kind of
freedom it would get out in the wild. According to Longman s Advanced American Dictionary, the
word freedom is defined as the right to do what you want without being controlled or restricted by

In 1894, Kate Chopin wrote The Story of an Hour, to describe the constraints placed on women
during the 19th century. During the 19th century women didn t have rights, their only roles
were to be wives and mothers. Women didn t have any rights to make decisions, have freedom
of speech or work outside the home. It is an obstacle in the face of liberty that everyone should
have, but only men reaped the benefits during this time. However, in the story, the main
character, Mrs. Mallard experiences freedom for a short period of time. Mrs. Mallard receives
news that her husband Bently was killed in a train accident and her sister Josephine and friend take
precautions to share the news because they know it will bring on deep sorrow. In contrast, the death
of her husband brings on a new feeling that others might consider inappropriate after the death of a
spouse. Kate Chopin shows this in the short story:
She abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips. She said it over and
over under her breath: free, free, free! (Chopin 327).
Death of a love one is expected to cause sadness, but in this case, it was for a short period of time.
The premature death of Mr. Mallard causes Mrs. Mallard to start to notice the beauty of her
environment, which possibly had gone unnoticed for a long time.
She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all quiver with the
new spring life. The delicious breath of

State Budget Vs Federal Budget
What is a budget? A budget forecasts the financial results and financial position of a company for
one or more future periods. A budget is used for planning and performance measurement purposes,
which can involve spending for fixed assets, rolling out new products, training employees, setting
up bonus plans, controlling operations, and so forth (Bragg, 2017).
The state of Georgia use different budgeting tools for example revenue projection. The state budget
is made up from the children that are attending grade school from kindergarten thru twelfth. Low
income parent and children and elderly individuals who is in need of medical coverage are
included as well. Georgia Department of Transportation also falls into the state budget along with

Like most states, Georgia collects revenue from a mix of personal and corporate income taxes,
sales taxes, gas and vehicle taxes, and various other levies and fees. Income taxes are the
cornerstone of Georgia s revenue system, accounting for about half of all state funds. Sales taxes
are the second largest revenue source, accounting for nearly a quarter of annual collections. A fair
and reliable revenue system requires both of these taxes (Bragg, 2017). With budgeting, the
federal government use different budgeting tools for example they may use pie graphs or budget
trends graphs. The federal budget is made up of General Funds which consist of education, public
safety and most other traditional state services are paid for from the General Fund, which includes

Libanus Father
On the mother s side, the difference in upbringing also played a role in the two men s attachment
toward their mothers. Both men had fathers who faced an early death. Libanius mother was quite
lenient in raising her children: My mother was a nice woman and feared the dishonesty of
guardians and the litigation which would inevitably arise with them, and so she herself set out to
be all in all to us. In general, she succeeded very well by dint of her exertions, but though she paid
out fees to schoolmasters for us, she did not have the heart to get annoyed with her sleepyhead of a
son, for she thought it was a loving mothers part never never to upset her child.
Libanius mother was hands on. In fear and suspicion of other guardians, she was the type of
woman who believed she could do things on her own. She was all in all to Libanius, which
could be read either she took on all the roles as both father and mother or she was everything her
children. Being independent, was a trait Libanius acquired from his mother. This passage from

Metaphysicians are musicians without musical ability. [...] the metaphysician confuses [science and

determinism and human freedom co exist. By arguing compatibilism ultimately changes the subject
from human freedom, I claim the concept of free will is meaningless. In essence, compatibilist
arguments exploit the ambiguity of language, indefinable metaphysical notions, and unsound
reasoning. In this essay, I attempt to eliminate compatibilism. First, ... Show more content on

Hobbes, an early modern English philosopher, champions materialism that everything is made of
matter and in extension, endorses determinism in favor of a mechanistic worldview, that the
world straightly follows a set of rigid natural laws. (Chappell, 1999, P. xii) He also believes in free
will; a free agent is he that can do if he will, and forbear if he will , in accordance to [his]
intrinsical quality . (Hobbes, 1999, P. 39) Hobbes (1999) thinks analogously a river has free will
because there is no external impediment , a person s action is free because he is not hindered
from it. (P. 95) Free will , for Hobbes (1999), means occurrences without obstacle, in animate or
inanimate objects. (P. 96) One can say a drop of rain is free because a raindrop is following its
gravitational nature as one agrees human beings are free because they act according to their
nature, which is composed of values and desires. (Chappell, 1999, P. xviii) Thus, free actions are
not contradictory to a deterministic world because all objects actions follow from their own
natures, which imply they are all voluntary and free. (Hobbes, 1999, P. 37) Hobbes argument is
attractive because, unlike Sober, it does not require alternative possibility, even if everything in the
world is rigidly determined by physical laws, the agents can still be described as

Red’s Redemption- Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Ellis Red Redding and Andy Dufresne and their
twenty year stint at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red (a guilty man) is serving a life sentence
for murder, Andy (an innocent man) is serving consecutive life sentences for the murder of his wife
and her lover. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age,
race, and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom.
The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The
Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical
black man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main
character and everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does
give advice, it is not his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a
lesson from a white character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common
black/white race relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative
stereotypes with positive realisms in cinema.
Celebrated director Spike Lee coined the term at a Yale conference during which he addressed race
relations in modern film (Gonzales). This stereotype focuses on a character who the audience
identifies as black. This (often supporting) character seems sensible and habitually

The Project Life Cycle Of The Production Bubble Gum And...
Introduction
Quality standards pervade all aspects of society, from quality management systems standards for
nuclear power stations to technical specifications for manufacturing bubble gum (Keystone and
Accountability, 2006). For NGOs, the story is no different(optic). In general, NGOs are engaged in
a wide range of activities, they set up projects to help people in poverty areas. But little attention
has so far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project
could not be guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of
uncertainties and flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006).
Therefore, the central argument of this article is going to find out how these two factors influence
the projects and which two quality management reforms could help to promote the NGOs project in
the context of a complex environment. In doing this, comparisons will be made with two examples
of Nokia and Lions Clubs International from their private sectors.
The Definition of Quality Management in NGOs
Quality (or performance)forms the third corner of time cost quality triangle which is the basis of
project management(Albert Lester, 2007). It is generally defined as a degree of excellence . In the
context of organizational performance it can be defined as the way in which an organization,
through its activities and underlying management systems, succeeds in meeting the needs of

the Army as a Staff Sergeant, I continually fulfill duty positions that are above and beyond my pay
grade in both garrison and deployed environments, yet still remain competent on the tenets of my
career field. This is best exemplified in my recent deployment with 1st Special Forces Group in
support of Operation Inherent Resolve. As a Staff Sergeant, I served as the CJSOTF I Task Force
Counterintelligence Coordinating Authority, which is doctrinally a CW3 billet. I laid the
foundation for future SOCCENT Counterintelligence Operations in Iraq by creating Annex B to the
CJSOTF I Umbrella Concept, conducted liaison activities with CENTCOM Counterintelligence

Counterintelligence Force Protection updates. In addition, I established the Tactical

these tasks are considered management or oversight in nature, I still found time to conduct tactical

A Case Study on Cost Estimation and
Profitability Analysis at Continental Airlines
Francisco J. RomГЎn
ABSTRACT: This case exposes students to the application of regression analyses to be used as a
tool pursuant to understanding cost behavior and forecasting future costs using publicly available
data from Continental Airlines. Specifically, the case focuses on the harsh financial situation
faced by Continental as a result of the recent п¬Ѓnancial crisis and the challenges it faces to remain
profitable. It then highlights the importance of reducing and controlling costs as a viable strategy

Continental s internal forecasts indicated that a further decline in passenger volume should be
anticipated throughout 2009, with a recovery in travel possibly occurring by the middle of 2010.
To summarize, adverse economic conditions in the U.S., coupled with the rise in fuel costs, were
dragging down Continental s profits and relief was unlikely through the foreseeable future.
THE DECISION TO REDUCE FLYING CAPACITY AND THE IMPACT ON
OPERATING COSTS
Given the situation described above, management needed to act swiftly to restore profitability.
Several strategic options were evaluated. Since the U.S. and much of the world was facing a
severe recession, the prospect for growing revenues by either raising airfares or passenger volume
seemed futile. Contrary to raising revenue, Continental s managers believed that raising fares could
potentially erode future revenues beyond the present level. Discounting fares did not seem a
plausible solution either, because given the severity of the economic situation a fare cut could fall
short in stimulating additional passenger demand and lead to lowering revenues.
Thus, because management anticipated that revenues would remain flat for most of the year, the
only viable short term solution to restoring profits was a substantial and swift reduction in
operating costs. This could most effectively be accomplished in two ways. First, through a
reduction in flying

Why Is Social Media Good Or Bad
Have you ever had a good or bad experience with social media? Have you ever been a part of a
protest that was started on social media? I think that social media is a good thing because you
can have so much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to
the kids in your neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make
friends with or they do not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social
media. Like recently I have found some friends on social media that I play games with. They are
super nice and without social media I would have never had that experience I would have to
play be myself all the time and have no one to talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends
and have fun with them even tho they live far away. Also colleges and most jobs look at your
social media account to see what kind of person you are and if you are able to work so not only
can you have fun but you can also potentially make money from it and you can make friends.

learn so much online and find so many cool and interesting things about things you did not even

The Colorado River
We usually think of the Grand Canyon in terms of its rocks, and the story and history that they
can contain, spanning as far back as half of the Earth s age. There is more to this canyon though
than the rocks, as it is still active as a forever changing landform, due to the power of running
water. The Colorado Riverhas carved out the Grand Canyon in just the last nine million years. In
fact, the river itself carries about half a million tons of sediment through the Grand Canyon each
and every day. There are a number of different river types that will be talked about, and how
exactly they have effected their environment and made changes in the landscapes. Valleys were
once thought to have formed independently as water flowed down a channel within the area of the
valley. What is now known, is that all rivers (located within valleys), combined with the power of
mass wasting, have formed the valleys by picking up sediment from the... Show more content on

A delta is when the water is calm from this loss of velocity, and the sediment can build up

amounts of destructive power. They have caused mass floods that have damaged towns and cities
surrounding them, and have also caused damage to families, taking lives. With all of this damage
that has been caused by rivers though, they have given back, with thriving life and people

William Shakespeare s The Elizabethan Era
William Shakespeare, possibly the greatest writer in English language, had different views about
the world than most writers. Shakespeare completely disagreed with the Elizabethan society he
lived in and with the concept of time. He found his society s views unproductive and incorrect
and he believed that time should not be a part of life, since it causes too much harm. His work
showed how he viewed the concept of loveand friendship and how someone cannot live his or her
life properly without loving someone and being loved in return. Shakespeare s worldview and the
society he resided in become illuminated throughout his work, especially in his sonnets. His work
reflects the importance of love and friendship as well as his disagreement with time and the
Elizabethan Eras views. William Shakespeare lived his life and wrote his works during the
Elizabethan Era. His writing in his sonnets often differed with the Elizabethan worldview. For
example, the Elizabethan society believed in a strong hierarchal system. However, Shakespeare
often wrote about a strong female. And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare/ As any She belied
with false compare (Shakespeare, Sonnet130). Shakespeare believed that a female can be just as
strong, sometimes even stronger, than a male. His rejection of feminine qualities continue to
intrigue today s writers. Shakespeare s insistence through his speaker in Sonnet 130 to have a real,

stroke Essay
Cerebral vascular accident or a stroke is the destruction of brain substance, resulting from
thrombosis, intracranial hemorrhage, or embolism, which causes vascular insufficiency. In
addition, it is an area of the brain denied blood and oxygen that is required and damage is done to
a part of the cells. The effect of the patient depends upon where the damageoccurs and the severity
of the stroke.
Each year alone about 150,000 people in America die from a stroke or are seriously disabled.
Stroke is among the top five causes of death. It generally happens very suddenly and it can take up
to five to seven days to completely effect the patient. Depending on how many of the brain cells die

After this progress starts to slow down, professionals can estimate how much progress the patient
will be likely to make.
If doctors agree that a stroke has taken place, they may do other tests to determine where the
stroke occurred, how large of an area is damaged, and how the blood flow with in the brain has
been effected; they do this by taking a CAT scan. They may also take an ECG to determine if there
is any heart disease that may have caused the stroke. In addition, they take tests to see if the patient
has high blood pressure or they may test the arteries themselves because this is a major cause of
stroke in most people. Catheterization, injecting dye into the arteries, and blood tests are the most
common tests done. A high glucose level in the blood may reveal diabetes and high blood fats
indicate thickened red blood and arteriosclerosis. There may also be a high level of red blood cells,
changing the consistency of the blood. These conditions must be treated to prevent further strokes.
The most common causes of strokes are thrombosis. This is when a clot forms in one of the
arteries, mostly in the carotid in the neck and the vertebral artery. The blood is thick and moves
very slowly through the artery. The thrombus will form on the damaged area of the artery wall
and will cut off the flow of blood to the brain. The area of the artery that is damaged is cause by
arteriosclerosis. This form of

Pros And Cons Of Nature Nurture
The nature nurture debate has been around for decades. It is one of the oldest and most popular
topics in the history of psychology asking what makes people who they become and how they
behave and develop the way they do. What makes the debate more interesting is that now scientists
are asking if personality traits and even sexual orientation can be determined by what is in already
there from conception. Bodies are built up of chromosomes which contain genetic information.
Many of these are inherited from parents and relatives. The nature side of the debate states the way
people are is predominantly from inherited geneticsand other biological factors not so much the
environmental factors. The genes humans have in their bodies play a huge role to many aspects
of who they are and who they become. For example, hair colour, eye colour and height are all
predetermined by genes. Unchangeable. This is natures way. The argument stands to decide
whether most attributes do stem from nature, genes, or if they can be affected by the environment
and the way people are nurtured as they have grown. The nurture side of the argument believes
although humans do have the genes and traits with which they are born, most personality traits
are being made up of environmental factors. For example, being loved and cared for as children,
if parents or carers were positive role models and if those people were taught in ways which
provided them with discipline and respect for others. Where nature

On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads
On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads The late 18th century saw a fundamental
change in the historically rigid structure of poetry, as witnessed by the collection of poems
entitled Lyrical Ballads, penned by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. At first deemed
an experiment, Lyrical Ballads garnered enough interest and favor to warrant Wordsworth s
Preface to Lyrical Ballads in 1802, as an introduction to the second edition of the collection. This
revolutionary preface became a manifesto of sorts, ushering in a period of poetrydefined by
descriptions of raw emotion, while straying away from the hierarchy of past poetry. More
specifically, Wordsworth advocated a break from poetic diction and a divergence from

By weaving all of these elements together, Wordsworth creates a powerful collection of poems,
where he attempts to achieve his goal of creating an overflow of powerful feelings (Wordsworth

groundwork for many poets throughout the romantic period. He managed this feat by using
common language to describe the joys and struggles of the average family. This heightened the
emotional response of the reader, along with the reader s ability to relate to the themes and
imagery drawn from nature. In this endeavor, Wordsworth believed that a species of poetry would
be produced, which is genuine poetry (Wordsworth 274).

The During The Age Of Reformation Essay
During the Age of Reformation people were greatly against the abuses that existed in the Roman
Catholic Church. A couple of abuses that were greatly stressed were the selling of indulgences,
simony, and nepotism. It was some of these same abuses that prompted German reformist Martin
Luther to write his 95 Theses. And for the Council of Trent to later address them in a series of
meetings. The most criticized abuse of the Roman Catholic Churchwas the selling of indulgences by
the pope. Indulgences permitted people to buy release from time in purgatory for both themselves
and their deceased loved ones. They were papers sold in order to bring remission of punishment
due to sins. Another common abuse that existed in the Church was simony. Simony is the act of
selling of Church positions. The Church had permitted important ecclesiastical posts to be sold to
the highest bidders and had left residency requirements in the religious community unenforced. A
last abuse of the Church is nepotism. Nepotism is the act of giving jobs to family members
instead of giving it to more qualified workers. This was a common problem where a well trained
and dedicated worker was needed and not just anyone. In 1517, when reformist Martin Luther wrote
an indictment of the abuses of the Roman Catholic Churchcalled the 95 Theses, he appealed to
many people across Europe. In his indictment he greatly criticized and addressed the selling of
indulgences above all. At first, a person would have to do work

Summary Of The Pact By PicoultThe Pact
Emily Gold was the typical 17 year old teenager who has always lived with her parents, Melaine
and Micheal, next door to Chris Harte, the perfect son and student athlete to James and Gus
Harte. Through this close proximity they became best friends. Emily and Chris started to date,
which made the parents happy, since they wanted nothing more than for the pair to end up
together. Emily was a striving art student with the ability to get into elite colleges due to years of
hard studying. Because of all of the people in her life that expected various sides of her, Emily
had this idea that she must be the perfect girlfriend, student, and daughter. With the suffocating
reality setting in, she realized that it was more than she could possibly handle, and so she
resorts to killing herself. To Emily, this was the only option on how to escape from the
overwhelming position she was trapped in. In her novel, The Pact, Picoult uses the theme of
expectations to demonstrate the drowning, catastrophic effects it can have on one s life by
forcefully causing a person to create an image of themselves that they can never become. Emily
and Chris grew up side by side their whole lives. Their parents always talked about the pair
getting married or being together in some way. It was simply a joke when the children were little
but after the two started to date, the possibility become reality. However, this is a reality Emily was

Daniel Chapter 3 Hebrew Men Analysis
In this essay I will be writing about The Three Hebrew Men. This story comes from the book of
Daniel chapter 3. It is about three men whose names were: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
The bible makes us to understand that the king of the Babylon empire at that time was king
Nebuchadnezzar. The story starts off when Nebuchadnezzar built a statute of Gold. Then he
invited important people from all over the land to come and see the statute that he built. Daniel
chapter 3 verse 4 5 says: Then a herald cried aloud: To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations,
and languages, that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in
symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King
Nebuchadnezzar has set up. king Nebuchadnezzar had asked all the people who came to see the
statue to fall down and worship the statue. Meanwhile it is written in the bible that when the

Causes And Effects Of Race Riots In America
The working conditions were very difficult, tiring, and dangerous but the workers were fine with
that considering they were getting paid three times more than they were in the south. Female
migrants also searched for work but found it much more of a challenge due to competition for
domestic labor positions. There was a large amount of competition for jobs but considering the
increasing population percentage in crowded cities, living space was also a competition many
African Americans were faced with. The North offered more food and better housing, but also some
unhealthy and overcrowded accommodations that helped spread tuberculosis . Segregation was not
legal in the North like it was in the South but racismand prejudice were wide spread through the
United States. Racially based housing ordinances were declared unconstitutional by the U.S.
Supreme Court in 1917. It led some neighborhoods to pass an agreement that requires white
property owners to agree not to sell to blacks, until 1948 when the court turned down the agreement.
A large amount of raceriots began after 1915 when the rent rose in segregated areas and a
reawakening activity by the KKK which brought problems between relations of blacks and
whites. The most disturbing wave of race riots took place in Chicago, July of 1919, lasting 13

Couples In China
As a worldwide community, is it not our duty to ensure that every human is entitled to the basic
human right of life?
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, envisaged and signed by 193 countries, accepts that
every citizen in every country is entitled to every human right in the declaration. It is a matter of
principle that such rights should be enforced with all the power invested in the government and in
the justice system. We all deserve equal rights; yet in many countries, they are often flouted.
On the 10th December 1948, following the Second World War, the Universal Declaration was
implemented to ensure that such a horrendous conflict would never occur again. This was
embraced by the International Community and it was determined that every individual should have
equal rights. Human rights are pivotal for justice. It is unfathomable, incomprehensible and

This approach has the advantage of providingmore lifelike signing comparable to what one would experience in real life. Also the likelihood oferrors is reduced by having a professional... Also theprocess involving the selection makes the overall system take a huge perfomance hit. Solina etal(2001) proposes a system where each of the video clips in the database has the same start andend position. in this case, it is suggested that the signer starts and ends the sign at the sameposition at the with both arms on the chest of the signer s body. • 7. Artificial Reefs Used as Fisheries The main objective of our study is to determine if artificial reefs can be used as a fisheries enhancement or conservation tool in Narragansett Bay. Using a variety of research techniques, we will attempt to answer the following questions: (1) do artificial reefs increase the abundance (and biomass) of important species of demersal sport fish? Or (2) do reefsattract existing numbers of fish to the reef and increase the rate of exploitation, thus potentially decreasing localized populations (or communities)? By building a carefully replicated network of artificial reefs, we will advance research on the impact of artificial reefs. In order to address our study questions, we propose the construction of 0.25 acre artificial reefs (0.5 acre area) using pre fabricated reef modules in three locations of Narragansett Bay. The creation of small scale experimental reefs will not only provide long term research stations but will also improve benthic habitat conditions in an area of soft sediments. The performance of artificial reefs varies considerably, depending on materials used as well as location of deployment and intended results. Breakup, movement, and burial have been reported to occur in reef programs. The location and design of reef complexes must be carefully chosen to balance the goals and objectives of a project with environmental and social constraints (Table 1). It includes everything from facts about how fast our cities are growing to city as a state of mind. But the section that intrigued me the most was symbolic interactionism and the study of city life. symbolic interactivity means that people are the ones who play an active role in their environment. In other words the area you live in is going to be determined by the way you interact with others and how you live your life. This idea was not one that shocked me but allowed me to grasp a greater understanding as to why different cities are the way they are. For example, i m from a small town in California with little to no crime. It is a pretty affluent area and people are pretty friendly. However you drive about 30 miles and you are now in one of the most dangerous cities in america, Oakland California. Here deadly shootings are a regular basis along with many other crimes. The citizens of these towns are usually right at the or below the poverty line. • 10. Development and Use of the The DF-1 Cell Line The DF 1 cell line was first created in 1997, by D. Foster and L. Foster at the University of Minnesota, USA. DF 1 is a non tumorigenic chicken embryo fibroblast cell line derived from 10 day old East Lansing Line eggs. Primary chicken embryonic fibroblasts were originally dissociated and grown in a laboratory culture setting. The cells were then passaged until they began to deteriorate, then concentrated to maintain around 30 60% confluence. The non aging cells were then identified and grown for additional passages. This passaging resulted in the creation of the spontaneously immortalized chicken cellline DF 1. Under a microscope, live adherent cells take on a spindle shaped form, whereas dead cells will present as more rounded than spindle like. When culturing a DF 1 cell line, the most common medium used for growth is a minimal essential medium, with 5% fetal calf serum. The cell line is then grown/incubated at 39В° Celsius. The DF 1 cell line is often used in the research of avian viruses. It is unique to the group of mammalian cell linesin that it does not contain endogenous sequences linked to avian sarcoma and leukosis, a first of its kind in continuous avian cell lines. The study of avian retrovirology relies heavily on access to a continuous cell line, and the DF 1 cell line is both continuous and non transformed. • 11. Advertising for 4G Technology with Sprint Introduction One of the most heavily advertised areas of technology in the United States currently is 4G technology. Every commercial and advertisement promises fast speeds, great coverage, and exceptional service altogether. However, the competition proves to be extreme and unbalanced. Since its introduction on Sprint s network, 4G, or fourth generation cellular technology, has revolutionized both the telecommunication arena while spilling into other technological fields. There is no end in sight for the relentless competition of expanding 4G technologies as coverage and network speeds continue to increase. Currently, 4G technology is offered by all major telecommunication carriers in the United States: Verizon, AT T, T Mobile, and Sprint. However, the term 4G has been loosely used. The best example of this can be associated with Sprint. The initial 4G technology Sprint offered was based of WiMAX technology. WiMAX proved to be fast technology, but lackluster in its performance and capabilities in regards to LTE. LTE has become the primary 4G technology in the United States while development of WiMAX has ceased. In addition, Sprint s 4G vision has switched to LTE. The question is raised Why did LTE win over WiMAX? . From many perspectives, LTE proved to be the superior technology. The Power of Networking One can easily argue that one of the greatest things that developed in the latter half of the twentieth century was the internet. By combining networks of networks ... Primary research methods will integrate participant observation and semi structured interviews (DeWalt and DeWalt 2002) with females victims of gender based violence(GBV) and the center staff members. This study aspires to determine what aspects lead Moroccan women to seek assistance, categories of assistance available, challenges Moroccan women face and future opportunities for recognition and socio legal support. Results denote a lack of social support to women victim of violence, lack of social and economic support for the center we will rest our research on, degraded service capacity, and the practice of deceit in interactions between women and staff ingrained in a cultural notions of shame. The concert consisted of two pieces. Mozart s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major and Bruckner s Symphony No. 7 in E major. The orchestra was conducted by Thomas Sondergard from Denmark. The concert lasted for about 2 hours with a 15 minute intermission. Although the concert started a little late, the first piece was Mozart s ConcertoNo. 3, which he composed when he was 19. The instruments played in this piece were 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 horns, and strings. The violinsoloist was Karen Gomyo. There were 3 movements to this piece, and as I learned in class, this was definitely a classical concerto. The first movement is played Allegro in Sonata form. The mood of this movement was bright and cheerful. I liked how the orchestra accompanied the violin. In the second movement it was played Adagio. Because the movement was slower, the mood was a little more tranquil. I liked this movement, because you could hear the violin solo playing an octave higher than the orchestra. The third movement which was the finale, was played Rondeau Allegro. In this movement, I really enjoyed the playfulness of this movement. The violin solo was quite impressive. Overall, this entire piece was quite enjoyable, I really liked the playing back and forth with the solo and orchestra. The orchestra played in tune and everyone was definitely playing in rhythm and were well prepared. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countries such as Portugal, Spain, and England all developed ways to gain wealth through travel, whether it be sending people to explore and hopefully find valuables, or expanding economic theories. Throughout the film, Red and Andy form an unlikely friendship that transcends age, race, and class boundaries that ultimately leads to Red s spiritual redemption and freedom. The film is set up for a classic white and black pairing with a magical negro narrative, however, The Shawshank Redemption subverts expectations. Red defies the cinema stereotype of the mystical black man or the Magical Negro because he is portrayed with dignity, because he is the main character and everyman, because he is not extraordinarily wise or supernatural (though he does give advice, it is not his only or main role in the text), and he survives the film having learned a lesson from a white character. This denunciation is significant because it is a rejection of common black/white race relation stereotypes, and because it is a landmark replacement of negative stereotypes with positive realisms in cinema. But little attention has so far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project could not be guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of uncertainties and flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006). Continental s internal forecasts indicated that a further decline in passenger volume should be anticipated throughout 2009, with a recovery in travel possibly occurring by the middle of 2010. To summarize, adverse economic conditions in the U.S., coupled with the rise in fuel costs, were dragging down Continental s proп¬Ѓts and relief was unlikely through the foreseeable future. THE DECISION TO REDUCE FLYING CAPACITY AND THE IMPACT ON OPERATING COSTS Given the situation described above, management needed to act swiftly to restore proп¬Ѓtability. Several strategic options were evaluated. Since the U.S. and much of the world was facing a severe recession, the prospect for growing revenues by either raising airfares or passenger volume seemed futile. Contrary to raising revenue, Continental s managers believed that raising fares could potentially erode future revenues beyond the present level. Discounting fares did not seem a plausible solution either, because given the severity of the economic situation a fare cut could fall short in stimulating additional passenger demand and lead to lowering revenues. Thus, because management anticipated that revenues would remain flat for most of the year, the only viable short term solution to restoring proп¬Ѓts was a substantial and swift reduction in operating costs. I think that social media is a good thing because you can have so much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to the kids in your neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make friends with or they do not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social media. Like recently I have found some friends on social media that I play games with. They are super nice and without social media I would have never had that experience I would have to play be myself all the time and have no one to talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends and have fun with them even tho they live far away. Also colleges and most jobs look at your social media account to see what kind of person you are and if you are able to work so not only can you have fun but you can also potentially make money from it and you can make friends. There is more to this canyon though than the rocks, as it is still active as a forever changing landform, due to the power of running water. The Colorado Riverhas carved out the Grand Canyon in just the last nine million years. In fact, the river itself carries about half a million tons of sediment through the Grand Canyon each and every day. There are a number of different river types that will be talked about, and how exactly they have effected their environment and made changes in the landscapes. Valleys were once thought to have formed independently as water flowed down a channel within the area of the valley. • 31. William Shakespeare s The Elizabethan Era William Shakespeare, possibly the greatest writer in English language, had different views about the world than most writers. Shakespeare completely disagreed with the Elizabethan society he lived in and with the concept of time. He found his society s views unproductive and incorrect and he believed that time should not be a part of life, since it causes too much harm. His work showed how he viewed the concept of loveand friendship and how someone cannot live his or her life properly without loving someone and being loved in return. Shakespeare s worldview and the society he resided in become illuminated throughout his work, especially in his sonnets. His work reflects the importance of love and friendship as well as his disagreement with time and the Elizabethan Eras views. William Shakespeare lived his life and wrote his works during the Elizabethan Era. His writing in his sonnets often differed with the Elizabethan worldview. For example, the Elizabethan society believed in a strong hierarchal system. However, Shakespeare often wrote about a strong female. And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare/ As any She belied with false compare (Shakespeare, Sonnet130). If doctors agree that a stroke has taken place, they may do other tests to determine where the stroke occurred, how large of an area is damaged, and how the blood flow with in the brain has been effected; they do this by taking a CAT scan. They may also take an ECG to determine if there is any heart disease that may have caused the stroke. In addition, they take tests to see if the patient has high blood pressure or they may test the arteries themselves because this is a major cause of stroke in most people. Catheterization, injecting dye into the arteries, and blood tests are the most common tests done. A high glucose level in the blood may reveal diabetes and high blood fats indicate thickened red blood and arteriosclerosis. There may also be a high level of red blood cells, changing the consistency of the blood. These conditions must be treated to prevent further strokes. The most common causes of strokes are thrombosis. This is when a clot forms in one of the arteries, mostly in the carotid in the neck and the vertebral artery. • 33. Pros And Cons Of Nature Nurture The nature nurture debate has been around for decades. It is one of the oldest and most popular topics in the history of psychology asking what makes people who they become and how they behave and develop the way they do. What makes the debate more interesting is that now scientists are asking if personality traits and even sexual orientation can be determined by what is in already there from conception. Bodies are built up of chromosomes which contain genetic information. Many of these are inherited from parents and relatives. The nature side of the debate states the way people are is predominantly from inherited geneticsand other biological factors not so much the environmental factors. The genes humans have in their bodies play a huge role to many aspects of who they are and who they become. For example, hair colour, eye colour and height are all predetermined by genes. Unchangeable. This is natures way. The argument stands to decide whether most attributes do stem from nature, genes, or if they can be affected by the environment and the way people are nurtured as they have grown. The nurture side of the argument believes although humans do have the genes and traits with which they are born, most personality traits are being made up of environmental factors. For example, being loved and cared for as children, if parents or carers were positive role models and if those people were taught in ways which provided them with discipline and respect for others. On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads The late 18th century saw a fundamental change in the historically rigid structure of poetry, as witnessed by the collection of poems entitled Lyrical Ballads, penned by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. At first deemed an experiment, Lyrical Ballads garnered enough interest and favor to warrant Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads in 1802, as an introduction to the second edition of the collection. This revolutionary preface became a manifesto of sorts, ushering in a period of poetrydefined by descriptions of raw emotion, while straying away from the hierarchy of past poetry. Lyrical Ballads revolutionized the field of poetry, and Wordsworth s manifesto helped lay the groundwork for many poets throughout the romantic period. He managed this feat by using common language to describe the joys and struggles of the average family. This heightened the emotional response of the reader, along with the reader s ability to relate to the themes and imagery drawn from nature. • 35. The During The Age Of Reformation Essay During the Age of Reformation people were greatly against the abuses that existed in the Roman Catholic Church. A couple of abuses that were greatly stressed were the selling of indulgences, simony, and nepotism. It was some of these same abuses that prompted German reformist Martin Luther to write his 95 Theses. And for the Council of Trent to later address them in a series of meetings. The most criticized abuse of the Roman Catholic Churchwas the selling of indulgences by the pope. Indulgences permitted people to buy release from time in purgatory for both themselves and their deceased loved ones. They were papers sold in order to bring remission of punishment due to sins. Another common abuse that existed in the Church was simony. Simony is the act of selling of Church positions. The Church had permitted important ecclesiastical posts to be sold to the highest bidders and had left residency requirements in the religious community unenforced. A last abuse of the Church is nepotism. Nepotism is the act of giving jobs to family members instead of giving it to more qualified workers. This was a common problem where a well trained and dedicated worker was needed and not just anyone. In 1517, when reformist Martin Luther wrote an indictment of the abuses of the Roman Catholic Churchcalled the 95 Theses, he appealed to many people across Europe. In his indictment he greatly criticized and addressed the selling of indulgences above all. At first, a person would have to do work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes And Effects Of Race Riots In America The working conditions were very difficult, tiring, and dangerous but the workers were fine with that considering they were getting paid three times more than they were in the south. Female migrants also searched for work but found it much more of a challenge due to competition for domestic labor positions. There was a large amount of competition for jobs but considering the increasing population percentage in crowded cities, living space was also a competition many African Americans were faced with. The North offered more food and better housing, but also some unhealthy and overcrowded accommodations that helped spread tuberculosis .
