Macbeth Interview
Interviewer: Hello Macbeth. Thank you for attending this interview. Would you mind briefing me
your whole story?
Macbeth: Yes, of course but it s rather intricate.
Interviewer: Why do you think your story is intricate?
Macbeth: My story is rather unpredictable one and it is all due to my hasty decisions. I basically
killed the King of Scotland to become the King and I was defeated in a battle and lost my power as
king! I misused my power as a king and I suffered.
Interviewer: That was quite a story. There s a saying, with great power, comes great responsibility.
But you becoming King, don t you think you abused your power? Since the start?
Macbeth: I was materialistic, very selfish and believed the witches and wanted everything they said

Macbeth: From the story it is quite evident how I went from being a brave and courageous man
to becoming a lowly person who has to kill someone to attain power. This just showed that power
corrupts ambition. My nature degraded and this I resorted to killing and/or murdering others
families who were in my way of becoming the king. My degrading nature also affected my
ambition, before I viewed attaining the power of becoming the King as an honor but due to my
wife s persuasion, I rather viewed it as a challenge and made sure that I acquired it. This ended
up having a negative impact on all the other characters in the story. From the guards to the little
children, no one was spared. Many lost their families, children lost their fathers and vice versa. I
became so caught up with the power of becoming the King that I even lost my wife. Even she had
become corrupt with power but guilt caught up to her earlier than me and she killed herself. It was
such a shame!
Interviewer: If you could have the chance to change your actions and rectify what you had done,
what would you do? How would your resulting new actions have a different impact on what will

A Personal Theory of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy...

Abstract A counselor s job is to journey along with their client and to provide insight and support
to those who are at risk and those who are hurting and searching for comfort and acceptance. If
the counselor is a Christian they will also want to share our Heavenly Father s love with the

6; Terry, 2011). Feldman s description of development conforms to Hawkins (n.d.) design of the
different systems symbolized by his concentric circles regarding the development of a person s
personality. According to Hart (1999), Wilson (2001), and Backus and Chapian (2000) to
change the way one thinks it is necessary to effect change in one s live because thoughts
influence how events and other people are perceived. Everyone has different influences in their
lives, from families to beliefs to economic situations; therefore, each person is a distinct and
unique individual. Model of Health In Maslow s hierarchy of needs there are five levels of
desires or basic needs that motivate people described (Fiest amp; Fiest, 2009, pg. 280). Starting
with the most basic needs for survival the levels are physiological, safety, love and
belongingness, esteem, and self actualization (Fiest amp; Fiest, pg. 280). As one need is met an
attempt is made to achieve the next level. If one is able to reach what is known as self
actualization, the highest level, values such as truth, justice, beauty simplicity, individuality,
balance, and harmony are usually greatly respected (Fiest amp; Fiest, pg. 283 and McMinn, 1996).
As McMinn points out that these values are extraordinarily like the fruit of the Spirit as described
by Paul in Galatians 5:22 23, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self

On April 22nd, 1970, the American public gathered in the streets to celebrate clean air, water, and
land. Congressmen in Washington D.C. halted their activities to be their constituents; however, the
Nixon administration was laboring at what would become the capstone of environmental policy, the
EPA. While Earth Day was the launch of environmentalism in the modern sense, individuals had
been combating natural resource degradation for centuries. In 1849, Henry David Thoreau
published a compilation of lectures, Walden, that would become the standard by which all
subsequent nature writings are judged. John Muir, father of the American preservationist
movement, cofounded the Sierra Club, which preserved California wild lands. Both Theodore
Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt worked during their tenure as presidents to save the
National Park System ( Environmentalism ). After World War II, the United States birthrate
skyrocketed, and people found themselves living on the edge of parks and nature. The public began
to question whether the government was working to preserve untouched land for future
generations. When Rachel Carson published Silent Spring in 1962, the era of environmentalism
was born. This movement demanded the state not only preserve the Earth, but act to regulate and
punish those who polluted it (Farrah). The work on the pesticide poisoning of man sparked a

Advisor Role Analysis
I didn t know what I was going to expect when I walked through those red doors to meet a new
advisor, but little did I know I was going to uphold major responsibilities. I had a new task at hand
and it wasn t only to delegate the staff members, but my advisor as well. I was going up the ladder
each upcoming year. I started off as a staff member, I became an editor, and finally I was now
becoming the advisor. My past experiences in yearbook, led me to take initiative when I heard the
advisor ask, Who wants to be Editor in Chief? . Such an important role was going to be determined
by a raise of hand. I was not only raising my hand for an editorial position, but I was raising my

over time I had to start letting my peers help me and not have all the pressure on myself.
Depending on other people was definitely something I struggled with, but I was capable of
overcoming being closed off and letting people in. My job was to be their motivation and lead by
example. If they saw the editors doing their pages, going the extra mile, and putting all their effort
into the yearbook then the members started putting effort. The whole staff had to work together and

Mandatory Conscription In The Military
1.Attention Getter:
1.Mandatory conscription has left a bad taste in the mouths of Americans since the Vietnam War.
In modern day society, it can be seen as slavery and Americans today have become accustomed to
the voluntary army system we currently have. For some, the perceived loss of freedom also means
not being able to achieve educational and occupational goals, but that is definitely not the case.
2.Reason to Listen:
1.In fact, there are many educational and occupational benefits for American soldiers. Many
citizens of the United States today do not know about these benefits. If they did, they might change
their opinion on the draft and conscription as a requirement. There are many skills and benefits to
be gained from enlisting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First and foremost, they offer financial assistance for undergraduate and graduate problems. They
help to cover tuition costs as well as housing and books. In addition, other programs, like work
study and tradework training, are available. With these programs, veterans can go to school, earn
money through a job, and train for specific careers like HVAC and EMT ( Education Benefits ,
2017).
b.The GI Bill also provides assistance with career advancement. Entrepreneurship training helps
veterans start their own businesses, flight training allows veterans to become airline pilots, and
funding for license and certification testing helps servicemen and women become certified
mechanics, therapists, web developers, and attorneys ( Education Benefits , 2017).
c.Trends have shown a decline in the use of GI Bill educational benefits. Restrictions on tuition
assistance, confusing enrollment processes, and strict admission requirements are causing drops in
the number of servicemen and women taking advantage of GI Bill benefits. Some of these
restrictions include limitations on which schools can be attended and how long these benefits can
be used for. The American MilitaryUniversity saw nearly 2,700 students drop out from 2015 to
2016 (Gross Altman, 2017).
Transition: Fortunately, some legislative action is being taken to address these recent declines.

The Beef With Antibiotics
The Beef with Antibiotics
In recent years, Americans have been blaming antibiotics used in animals to be processed for food
for many of the growing number of health problems in developed countries. Fast food restaurants
are making movements to remove antibiotic treated meats from their menus. This movement is
causing quite the stir in consumers and livestock producers alike. Do the antibiotics used in beef
really contribute to antibiotic resistant diseases? Should antibiotics be outlawed in the use of farm
animals? The eradication of antibiotic use in America s beef industry is not feasible due to its
usage in the treatment and control of deadly or discomforting diseases.
Presently, speculations have risen about the amount of antibiotics used in the livestock industry and
the desire to consume antibiotic free meats. What is not understood, however, is the USDA has
been monitoring the amount of antimicrobial residue in meats for several years. If unsafe levels are
detected the meat is not allowed to be sold for human consumption. Yet, fast food chains such as
Subway and Chipotle are claiming to go completely antibiotic free within the next decade. The
practicality of this becoming a reality is slim due to the need to control, treat, and prevent diseases.
To truly understand the importance of the antibiotic usage in cattle it must first be understood what
antibiotics are and the reasons they are used. Additionally, the use of vaccinations should be taken
into account for the

The Bowenian Approach to Family Therapy Essay example
The Bowenian Approach to Family Therapy Summer D. Parrott Liberty University March 1, 2015
Abstract This paper will summarize the theory of family systems developed by Murray Bowen. It
will describe the eight key components to Bowenian therapy and the techniques used during
practice. Strengths and limitations will be exposed, followed by a summary of the importance of
integration between psychology and family systems theory. Keywords: Bowen, integration, family
systems theory Part I Introduction Bowen family systems theory is based on the view that the
family is an emotional unit. The theory uses systems thinking to describe the interactions and
relationships within the family. Given families are deeply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Those who are undifferentiated, on the other hand, react emotionally and impetuously. Unable to
maintain their own autonomy, they become fused with others in their family. Their emotional
patterns are in sync with other members and they have a difficult time separating what they feel
from the emotions of the family unit (Kerr Bowen, 1988). Intelligence does not determine the
level of differentiation. Highly intelligent people can have low differentiation. The level of
differentiation refers to the degree in which a family member can think and act for themselves
while dealing with an emotional issue (Kerr Bowen, 1988). Intimate relationships often include
bouts of anxiety. In families, as the anxiety increases between two people, they make seek to
bring in a third person to attempt to gain stability. This process is known as triangulation. With
the involvement of the third person, the anxiety is spread across more people and appears to
lighten. While the tension may appear to decrease, the possibility of increasing the original
problem persists. With three players now involved, the original dyad fails to solve the problem
which caused the anxiety to begin with (Bevcar, 2009). Bowen researchers consider triangles to be
a normal part of relationships. Triangles are the basis of Bowen s multigenerational theory
(Rabstejnek, 2012). If anxiety and reactivity can be properly managed, triangles

The Doctrine Of Utilitarianism Essays
The Doctrine of Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is a doctrine that revolves around two concepts:
happiness and consequentialism. It follows the Greatest Happiness Principle which is, The
creed which accepts as the foundation of morals, Utility, or the Greatest Happiness Principle,
holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend
to produce the reverse of happiness (Mill 239). Utilitarianists most vast idea is creating the
greatest happiness for the greatest number of people and to end pain and suffering with this
principle by using Utilitarian Calculus. In Utilitarian Calculus, one would analyze the situation
and as long as the action has a greater positive effect (more happiness) overall than a negative
effect (pain and suffering) then the act is moral. Singer had many arguments when it comes to
animal rights and speciesism. Singer defines speciesists as individuals who give greater weight
to the interests of members of their own species when there is a clash between their interests and
the interests of those of other species. Human speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when
it is felt by pigs or mice as when it is felt by humans (Singer Equality). Singer s main point when
explaining animal rights is that equality does not require equal rights. Singer believes it is
unrealistic and irrational to compare a dying mouse to a dying person because they do not have
equal rights and situations in life. He states, It

Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being
In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that without the ability
to compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our lives, but remain between life s
lightness and heaviness. He does this by illustrating the relationships between four characters:
Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, and Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a
brilliant surgeon from Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met
Tereza, who was his waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of her favorite
compositions by Beethoven was playing on the radio and that he enjoyed literature. Tereza
evidently followed Tomas to Prague with her life packed within a suitcase and she intended to
offer her life to him. The two started living with each other, but Tomas was incapable of
terminating his bachelor lifestyle full of mistresses. He tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza
found a letter from one of his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to Tomas saying, I want to make love
to you in my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people. The audience won t be allowed
up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16). Tomas confessed and told her
that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her. This information marred Tereza s
mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares and began contemplating suicide. He then
married her, to relieve her of her distress. Yet he still kept his mistresses. Eventually Sabina and
Tereza become close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained the same. Sabina, Tereza, and
Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting Czechoslovakia. Tereza left behind
her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit home alone as Tomas continued
his affairs. She then began to believe, when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak
have to be strong enough to leave. (Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to Prague. Tomas was
enjoying his liberation for a few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This evidently meant that
the couple gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple would be allowed to
leave again due to the Communist regime. In

Pericles Acropolis Speech
The ruler of Athens, Pericles (495 429 BCE) convinced the Athenians to rebuild the Acropolis
instead of leaving it in ruin as a reminder of the price of war. (Sayre 58) From the rebuilding of
Acropolis came the Golden Age. Pericles thought that by rebuilding the Acropolis, it could stand as
a memorial to the Persian War and to Athena, the patron of the Athenian people. Phidias was a
sculptor whom Periclesplaced in charge of the sculptural program for the new buildings of
Acropolis. Pericles very much wanted Athens to be the leading example for Greece. He was very
proud of the men who had fallen in their battles of the Peloponnesian War, even writing a speech
for them. During the rule of Pericles, the rebuilding of the Parthenon took place. Along with
Ictinus, Callicrates and Phidias are credited in the designing of the Parthenon. The Parthenon was
completed in 432 BCE. It took fifteen years of construction. The Parthenon was built not only to
give thanks to Athena, but was also a sign of power. Ictinus and Callicrates wanted the structure
to represent the Doric order. They wanted everything to be proportioned and to look as perfect as
possible so they used the golden section; also called the golden rectangle or golden spiral. The
golden section is from the golden ratio of 1.618. It can be used to... Show more content on

My family and I were on our way to the Manor house in Holden of Wissilia, a large town that s

in his will that My family should live in the manor house of Wissilia, he found it charming Sadly

disgust me.
Mother, w we a are here, Gwen silently whispered, y you fell asleep.
I slowly lifted my head, we were here. Holden of Wissilia. Great name, if you don t know the
history. I strolled toward the front door when I heard a familiar voice calling my name.
Kathrine, The voice bellowed. Katherine, turn around! I turned and saw my dear brother Winstin!
Brother, so glad you have arrived, I politely curtsied. Where is the wife?
Dead. The Black Death fell upon her.
I nodded politely, I am sorry, Brother.
No big deal, I will just find the next lucky women, he gave me a low chuckle. Well, let us go inside.
I didn t quite understand why he was acting like that, as if he had done something to his dear wife;
that wasn t possible he loved her dearly it seemed anyway.
I made my way in the manor house. Oh, how horridly it reeked of waste and rats. I hated this
manor so much, it was the worst of all the manors. Clovis had had an affair with another lady she
was down right a disgrace and this was the manor house she gave birth in. Disgusting.

I gasped, Dominic!

Labor And The Collective Bargaining Process
1.1 The actors who are generally involved in the collective bargaining process are Management but
more specifically, the owners and shareholders, executives and managers and the industrial and
human resource people. In the collective bargaining process in labor it is the individual employees
and the labor unions which represent them. In local, state, and federal government agencies and the
public. It is the government agencies that act as representatives of the public interest and are
responsible for making policies. 2.1 Some basic assumptions about labor and conflict are society
has an impact on labor activities, that conflict is gong to happen between labor and management.
This conflict is not always unhealthy though. Another assumption is that conflict comes from labor
and management having different social and economic interests. There are multiple perspectives
from labor and management. 3.2 Some of the legal reaction toward unionization before the NLRA
were that unions were viewed as criminal conspiracies up until 1842. Unions were viewed as
violating a worker s right to bargain with their employer as they wish and was not until
Commonwealth vs Hunt that unions were not considered as criminal conspiracies. By 1935
Injunctions became used widely and unions were no longer considered criminal conspiracies. If
union activities were found illegal, Judges began putting injunctions against these activities and was

Fahrenheit 451 Censorship Quotes
Imagine living in an unknown world where the norm is seen as the wrong thing. Imagine living in
a society where reading books was considered a crime and you could be killed if the government

censorship in Bradbury s novel Fahrenheit 451creates and interesting dystopian novel that serves
as a warming to future readers. Beatty and Montag battle different views throughout this novel that
seem to be a key point in relating to the theme and culture. The theme of censorship is shown in
many examples and quotes in this novel. After reading this novel, one will have a better idea of
what a dystopian society is like. Almost all charterers except for a few,... Show more content on

The message that the author is trying to communicate with its audience is that owning and
reading a book is illegal. The members of society focus only on entertainment and speeding
through life. In this quote, Colored people don t like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White people
don t feel good about Uncle Toms Cabin. Burn it. Someone s written a book on tobacco and
cancer in the lungs? The cigarette people are weeping? Burn the book. Serenity, Montag. Peace,
Montag. Take your fight outside. Better yet, into the incinerator. Funerals are unhappy and
pagan? Eliminate them, too. Five minutes after a person is dead he s on his way to the big
Flue, the Incinerators serviced by helicopters all over the country. Ten minutes after his death a
mans a speck of black dust. Let s not quibble over individuals with memorandums. Forget them.
Burn all, burn everything. Fire is bright and fire is clean. (Bradbury 57) readers can infer that
books are hated in this society as the quote talks about burning everything that is even
considered a book. Montag burns his own house down mainly because Beatty makes him, but
what if Montag partly wanted to do it himself? If he was going to go down for reading books
why not do it himself? Beatty had read books himself in the past but was never caught for it.
Montag knew this as Beatty taunts him at the fire department with quotes of literature, but Montag
couldn t say anything because it would be like a confession. Montag basically had to censor the
information he retained from the books he read, as some of them changed his views on the world.
People are also willing to stand up for what they believe is right. The quote There must be
something in books, something we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there
must be something there. You don t stay for nothing (Bradbury 48) shows how the women thought
books had more potential than anyone else thought. She lit herself and her house on

Theme Of Symbolism In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Of the many literary devices used by writers to make their work more powerful and layered,
symbolism is one of the most effective, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death
Foretold is a text that relies heavily on its use to develop its narrative. The novella recounts, in the
form of a pseudo journalistic reconstruction, the murder of Santiago Nasar in a small Colombian
town in the mid 1900 s. Through the course of the novel, Marquez employs various symbols to
reinforce key ideas, themes and techniques. This helps the novella break the monotony of a linear
storyline and unfolds the plot in a unique way that compounds both effect and meaning.
Santiago s dream sequence mentioned at the beginning of the novella is one of the most significant
symbols in the novella. He dreams that he was going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Santiago is murdered and his body is autopsied, it is revealed seven of the many wounds were
fatal and some of his organs were destroyed . Moreover, when Pedro plans to fatally stab
Santiago, he looks for his heart almost in his armpit, where pigs have it . Thus by likening
Santiago to a pig, Gabriel Marquez emphasizes the significance of the pig knives as a symbol. The
use of the pig knives as a murder weapon is also symbolic of the crassness of the decision to
murder Santiago. The novel states that the Vicario brothers had less than a day to plan the
execution of Santiago, since the were told of their sister s loss of virginity a short time before
three on the morning they killed Santiago Nassar. Earlier in the novel, it is also mentioned that the
brothers were known to slaughter the same hogs they raised, a fact that links to the idea that the
twins looked at Santiago as simply another hog to slaughter , and therefore they used the same
weapon to murder

Usefulness of Spreadsheet Modeling in Financial Accounting...
21st century is the century of technology, and spreadsheet is one of the great technological
inventions that greatly improve working efficiency. Spreadsheet is a computer application with
functions that can improve the user s productivity in collecting, analyzing, and sharing tabular data
sets. It displays multiple cells usually in a two dimensional matrix or grid making up of rows and
columns. Each cell contains alphanumeric text, numeric values, or formulas (Wikipedia, 2011).
Bagranoff (2010) thought spreadsheet allows users to make complex calculations automatically

It is widely agreed that problems with information security and managerial control over
spreadsheet accuracy stem from the inherent nature of spreadsheet software. The first problem is
the difference between making a spreadsheet simply appear on the display screen and constructing
a well designed spreadsheet characterized by integrity and build in controls. This is particularly
troublesome since once they are set up, spreadsheets may be used for an extended period of time
and are often copied and distributed to others. If errors have been programmed into the spreadsheet
s original version, they will affect the spreadsheet s output forever and be replicated and
compounded each time the spreadsheet is reproduced (Busbin et al, 1990). Secondly, because
spreadsheet software allows convenient alteration of value and design, without built in controls
subsequent users may alter spreadsheet structure and thereby unknowingly compromise the
integrity of the original design, and at the worst, could be flawed final decision making due to a
reliance upon erroneous information (Busbin et al, 1990). Moreover, relationships among financial
accounts, informational reliability risks, and the existence

The Past, Present and Future of Social Security Essays
Social Security A Historical View Social security, the federal retirement system, is one of the
most popular government programs in United State?s history. Today, Social Security benefits
are the backbone of the nation s retirement income system. The long road to the successful
development of social security began in 1935. Before 1935, very few workers received job
pensions. Those workers that were covered never received benefits because they were not
guaranteed. Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the original Social Security Act. It comprised of two
services: a Social Security retirement benefit that applied only to workers, and a welfare program
for the elderly called Old Age Assistance. Social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1960, seventy eight percent of workers were insured. Nearly universal coverage was reached
in 1965. In 1956 disability insurance was added. Women were, also, allowed to retire at 62 with
benefits equal to 80 percent of what they would have received at age 65. Men were offered a
similar early retirement benefit program in 1961. By the mid 1960?s, Social Security had
demonstrated success by achieving its primary goal of reducing the percentage of elderly living
in poverty. New legislation that included Medicare and Medicaid added to the success of Social
Security by increasing the tax base for Social Security and raising benefits by 7 percent, by
allowing retirement recipients to work without losing benefits, and by amplifying the definition
of disability. In 1969 benefits were raised by 15 percent. In 1972 they were raised by 20 percent.
They were, also, indexed to increase at the rate of inflation. In 1972 the United States suffered an
economic downturn. Legislators worked on ensuring that the Social Security program pay all the
benefits that had been promised. In 1974 SSI was added as a welfare program, instead of
expanding Social Security. The tax rate and the amount of payroll subject to the payroll tax were
increased without increasing benefits. In 1983 President Reagan tried to drastically cut retirement
and disability

While most will believe that the Flyer s biggest need was a strong winger, the Flyers have needs

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Refracting Telescope
Introduction: The refracting telescope or the refracting lense inside, is really useful at seeing
distant objects, making them appear larger and closer then it actually is, for e.g, it is mostly used
for astronomers to look around space, having an eye on most planets.
What happens when the light travels from one medium to the other: The light travels everywhere,
hitting everything and at the same time reflecting at a certain angle.. When speed of light is
normally being discussed, it is mostly being referred to its maximum speed that it can hit, and that
is the speed of light in a vacuum. Having no air or any other mediums, the light has no obstacles,
letting it free to go everywhere at its speed, which is 3.00 x 108 m/s. When an medium ... Show

Especially when wanted to be build in larger size and larger lense. The cost of the refracting
telescope runs to about $500 to $2000 per inch of the objective lense.
Another disadvantage is that the refracting telescope don t focus the colours very well because the
light just bounces of and creates different colours that are just bending and refracting
everywhere, focusing different colours at different points. Makes it really hard to make it to focus
and to bring them all together and see the proper colorful picture that is wanted. This is also known
as chromatic aberration. This could be solved by using the coated lenses to reduce this problem to
the minium.
If the lense is a bit more thicked, most light won t even be able to breach through, as well as not
giving in any colours to create the virtual or the real image.
Advantages:
The refracting telescope lense doesn t need much cleaning as they are very well sealed inside its
build.
After the first alignment, they are really needed to be re done since they are more resistant to the

Prevalence Rate For Bipolar I Disorder
Prevalence
The lifetime prevalence rate for Bipolar I Disorder is 0.6% and the 12 month prevalence rate is
0.4% of the overall population (Merikangas et al, 2011). The United States had the highest
reported lifetime prevalence of bipolar spectrum disorders with 4.4% and a 12 month
prevalence of 2.8%. In addition, lifetime prevalence rates for bipolar I disorder were found to be
slightly higher in males than in females. While much of the reported prevalence rates for bipolar
disorder are based on adults 18 years and older, Merikangas et al. (2010) reported prevalence rates
in the United States for adolescents including 3.3% for males and 2.6% for females. It was also

In addition, episodes of depression and mania tend to be short and frequent around the time of onset
and then lengthen over time with most people experiencing intermittent episodes throughout their
lifetime (Angst Sellaro, 2000). Since bipolar spectrum disorders are complex in nature, the overall
treatment of this disorder tends to be difficult as nonadherence to treatment is common (Hilty,
Leamon, Lim, Kelly, Hales, 2006).
There are also some gender differences experienced by those with bipolar disorder. Women tend
experience bipolar disorder different from men. Nivoli et al. (2011) reported that in adult onset
bipolar disorder, women generally experience an onset of depression and overall depressive
predominance. In addition, they reported that women tend to experience a higher rate of psychotic
features and suicidality associated with depression. However, men tend to experience higher rates
of comorbid substance abuse and engage in more violent attempts of suicide.
Youth with bipolar disorder tend to experience persistent disease well into their late adolescent
years and adulthood (Wozniak et al, 2010). Individuals with childhood and adolescent onset as
compared to adult onset, tend to be highly correlated with specific illness characteristics including
more a severe course of disease, comorbid anxiety disorders, at least 10 additional lifetime mood

Differences Between Craft And Design
Intro
There have been many debates on whether craft and design are different or similar. Risatti
(2008:116) states that although craft and design are closely related, there is a distinction between
them. Crafts have been developed within cultures, but have been modified by design and both
involve a different way of thinking. So are they one and the same or different? In this essay I m
going to go through 6 different examples; tradition, innovation, method, materials, uniqueness and
lifestyle, where design has taken the simple craft and changed it to something new, proving my
point that craft and design are in fact more different than the same.
Tradition
There is a noticeable difference in how craft and design play a role in tradition. Craft is a way the
people of a culture expressed there believes, whereas design has challenged it. Figure 1 is a
traditional vase used specifically for fetching water. Cultural stories/beliefs were painted on them,
this makes it easier to recognise which culture it came from. Figure 1 is made ... Show more content

Craft focuses on the hand made detail where design is more factory orientated. Risatti (2008:116)
states that craft objects are the outcome of a skilled hand directly working the material and
design object are of industrial methods where hands might not even be part of the equation at
all. In figure 3 we have a wooden peg doll which is the 1400 s Barbie doll. This doll is very simple
in shape and colour and we can see it s been hand crafted and a lot of time was spent on it,
whereas in figure 4 we have the ever after high first chapter apple white doll . This doll has been
made by machine, painted by machine and is mass produced by machine. There is a lot more
detail been put into the doll with a lot less effort. This is a great example how we can take the
same idea for craft and design and show how different methods can influence the

How do our bodies and minds change from early to late adulthood?
As we age does our mind simply begin to deteriorate in the same fashion as our body does in
regards to it physical capabilities? Have you wondered what affect does peri and post menopause
have in relation to memory decline in women? Is dementia directly related to cognitive aging? All
of these conditions have one thing in common, they all occur as the human body starts to age into
late adulthood. Aging from early to late adulthood has an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As the body ages into middle adulthood which is forties to sixties other physical changes take place.
Physical change become noticeable, disease becomes more prevalent, reaction time slows, eyesight
diminishes, height begins to slowly decline, and menopause occurs in women and the male
reproductive system starts to slowly change. In late adulthood which is sixties and beyond, height
continues to decline, the senses continue their gradual decline and become more noticeable, bone
diseases, cancer, cardiovascular diseases become prevalent and dementia eventually affects a large
proportion of adults. Under normal conditions a person cannot be prevented from experiencing
predetermined physical changes (Mossler, 2013). Another aspect that changes with aging is
cognitive development.
Cognitive development is a broad domain that refers to the development of the mind. Cognitive
processes are connected to the growth and decline of memory. Cognition includes the basics of
how we learn, make decisions and use language. Mental cognitive development is effected by age
as well. One of the reasons many think all older people are in rapid decline is due to the availability
heuristic. The availability heuristic is a mental shortcut that causes people to make quick, incorrect
judgments based on limited information. Older people in decline get more attention than those who
are independent, so the available information

Kleenmaid Group Case Study
I FACTS
The Kleenmaid Group was a retail whitegoods business which operated a chain of Group owned
and franchised stores across Australia. Each of the 14 companies within the Kleenmaid Group went
into voluntary administration and were placed into liquidation on 25 May 2009. Mr Andrew Young
(the Defendant) was a director of numerous Kleenmaid companies at the time of the collapse. The
Defendant pleaded not guilty to the following charges:
Count 1 Westpac Fraud
Counts 2 to 19 Insolvent Trading
Count 20 Dishonest Transfer
The Crown case in relation to the Westpac fraud is that the Defendant dishonestly acquired a loan
of $13 million for a Kleenmaid company called EDIS Services Logistics Pty Ltd in November
2007. In relation to the insolvent trading counts, the Crown contends that, during a period from mid
2008 until before the collapse, the Defendant dishonestly failed to prevent EDIS Services Logistics
Pty Ltd from trading while it was insolvent. Finally, the Crown claims that the Defendant committed
a further dishonest act, by causing $330,000 to which the creditors of the Kleenmaid Group were
entitled to be transferred to an entity of which the Defendant was a shareholder.

because of the camera that follows the three girls as they walk for nine weeks back home. In
order to get there, the girls follow the Rabbit Proof Fence as their guideline while consequently
being pursued by European police and an Aboriginal tracker (Moodoo). Moreover, The Rabbit

Aboriginals are naturally gifted hunters and are more suited to the harsh Australian environment.
At one point in the movie, a European tracker is shown. He gives up the search for the girls the

Hypothese of Kaibab Plateau in the Grand Canyon Essay
Many will attest to the grandeur of the natural feature that exists in northern Arizona, but the
formation of the Grand Canyon has befuddled geomorphologists to this day. This confusion can be
attributed to the Kaibab Plateau, an anomaly considering the Colorado River traverses it seamlessly.
Four prevalent hypotheses have been proposed since the 19th century, starting with the lake
overflow proposition first brought up by John Newbury and then reinforced by Eliot Blackwelder.
Newbury argued that a structure must have ponded an ancient lake causing an overspill to cut into
the Grand Canyon. This argument holds that the river must have come after the plateau s existence.
Unbeknownst to Newbury, the structure would be the Kaibab Plateau.... Show more content on

Antecedent supporters will claim that the river could flow anywhere on the Kaibab Plateau, but
evidence of a river that strayed has not been found. In addition, the canyons of the Mogollon
Highlands show evidence of ancient rivers that once flowed northeast against the southwest
direction of the Colorado River the Antecedent proposition purports (3c). Gravel sediment where
the Mogollon Highland s would have drained onto the Colorado Plateau supports this statement
(3b). A true testament to the power of the Colorado River from the Rocky Mountains is evident
in its capabilities to erode away volcanic bedrock in the past (5c). As many as 13 volcanic dams
were formed in the Grand Canyon s past, but all did not withstand the Colorado River. Basaltic
lava flows are relatively resistance, but the river has successfully eroded about 11,300 feet of
volcanic material, equivalent to twice the depth of the Grand Canton itself (8b). Further proof of
major rivers ability to effectively erode barriers can be found near Cameron, where the Little
Colorado River has managed to change its course north and remove 150 feet of bedrock material
(5c). With these factors in hand it is not hard to imagine that younger Colorado River had the
capability to erode significant parts of an older Kaibab Plateau. Tributaries like the Bright Angel
Canyon also present

planning that needed to be done before expansion began. Instead of adapting business operations
to the Japanese culture, the company essentially assumed the Japanese would readily adjust to

Consumer buyer behavior is much different than in the United States, with purchasing patterns
and product selection varying greatly between regions. They have a trend to buy smaller

concept of large retail stores is foreign. Retailers with the highest growth rate are small specialty

Oedipus Self Identity Analysis
The implications of self identity are far ranging. The light we view ourselves in determines the
very basics of who we think we are, and what action we think we should take to fulfill our identity;
to make it flourish. Men build these identities on many different foundations. For one man might
say he builds it on the goodness of his heart, another on his career. Yet every foundation, save that
of Jesus Christ, has the tendency to crumble and fall apart beneath us. When the good man realizes
he has sinned; when the career of an old man fades away, their identities are no more. Oedipus, the
mighty king of Thebes, is such a man. In Sophocles Oedipus the King, Oedipus lacked the
unshakable identitythat can only be found in Christ, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The University of Denver published manual in 2012, categorizing how college students view
themselves into twelve areas. These twelve can be simplified into two basic groups: The
performance of an individual (Intellectually, athletically, occupationally, or otherwise), and their
relationships with others. Of these two groups, the latter has been more definitive in our society
today because media influences have put even greater stress on those who build their identity
on relationships. USA Today conducted a survey in 2014, revealing that almost all the college
students they interviewed have had a fear of being left out that has been generated by social
media. Because they have let these relationships define them, they are constantly placed in a
state of potential identity crisis. A relational problem with a group of friends or a partner could
lead to a serious breakdown of how that individual views themselves. Though not as prevalent,
the second group of characteristics based on performance can have an equally severe impact if it
is used to build an identity. Any number of events such as a loss of job, physical injury, academic
failure, failure to reach a goal, and old age can all tear that identity down. As we age, our mind and
body both deteriorate, and with this change can come a host of physical and mental shortcomings.
As the young adults of our nation construct their self identity on performance, they also build it on
their frail bodies which at some point will

Implication For Occupational Therapy ( 2014 )
Implication for Occupational Therapy According to Ridner et al. (2014), lymphedema is a chronic
condition that causes permanent damage to the lymphatic system. It is incurable, but can be
effectively managed by comprehensive complete decongestive therapy with the goal of decreasing
the limb volume to normal or near normal (Lawenda, Mondry, Johnstone, 2009; Ridner et al., 2014;
Rockson, 2016). According to (Lawenda, Mondry, Johnstone, 2009), the lack of effective early
lymphedema management results in increased swelling, fibrotic skin changes, pain, paresthesia,
and infections. Moreover, Lawenda et al. (2009) stated that early intervention decreases the
progression of the disease. Therefore, it is critical to provide early lymphedema intervention to help
to promote quality of life, and decrease functional disability, psychosocial deficits, and
complications that may be life threatening among the clients who are impacted by lymphedema
(Lawenda et al., 2009). Lymphedema is treated by a lymphedema specialist with physician orders to
evaluate and treat lymphedema (Rockson, 2016). Complete decongestive therapy is composed of
manual lymphatic drainage, three layer short stretch medical bandages, immaculate skin care, and
client education on self management techniques (Ridner et al., 2014). The lymphedema
intervention has two phases. Phase I involves limb volume reduction by certified lymphedema

and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it.
Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is only legal in some states.
Some states do not agree with same sex marriage. Same sex marriage was legal in 36 states and
the District of Columbia. In 19 of those states. (Nascri). I think same sex marriage should be
legal. The state should not say anything about agreeing to an adult s way of life. If two people
love each other and want to get married, regardless of their partner s color, religion, nationality or

Explain Some Of The Benefits A Student May Gain By...
Module 1 Reading/Discussion Questions Chapter 1 1. Explain some of the benefits a student may
gain by studying philosophy. A student may gain several benefits from studying philosophy. For
instance, students may learn how to evaluate arguments, analyze ideas and draw individual
conclusions. Philosophy teaches how to make judgements with precise evaluation based on ethics
and morality, taking under consideration all the factors that make an evaluation precise. This is
useful because one must have the capacity to analyze situations and develop a solution in the
tribulations of life. Hence, studying philosophyis beneficial regardless of major. 2. Explain the
Socratic Method of Teaching. Is this a useful way for students to learn? The Socratic Method of
Teaching develops critical thinking. It involves examination, analysis, evaluation, and a
combination of thoughts and ideas. This is with the purpose to bring questions into sharper focus
and provide a foundation for the answers. It is a useful way for students to learn because some
situations in life will require careful analysis and evaluation in order to make an executive
decision, and the Socratic Method of Teaching provides the tools to do so. 3. Explain how critical
thinking can be used to analyze a philosophical issue. In the book, critical thinking is defined as the

The Issue Of Administrative Searches
Abstract Administrative searches have always been a controversial topic and have brought about
many civil cases. Publicized warrant cases have changed the way warrantless searches are
conducted. The privacy of individuals is a very sensitive subject and our right to privacy is clearly
stated in the 4th amendment, Bill of Rights. The original notion in the 4th amendment is each man
s home is a castle (Legal Information Institute, 2014). The right of the people to be secure in their
persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, not be violated,
and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and
particularly describing the place to be searched and the persons or... Show more content on

The following cases represent examples in various outcomes of contrast and comparison in
administrative searches. Comparisons question whether or not warrants were necessary when
determining if civil rights were compromised. In some cases, the courts felt that warrantless
searches were justified; while other cases represent examples of civil rights violations. A
particular administrative search in question was brought to court in 1989 at the Superior court of
New Jersey, Law Division of Middlesex County (Health Dept. V. Roehsler, 2014). The group and
/or individuals in this case involved the Middlesex County Health Department, Plaintiff V. Peter
Roesheler and Donna Roeshler, Defendants (Health Dept. V. Roehsler, 2014). On May, 5th 1987 a
representative from the Middlesex County Health Department received a complaint regarding an
accumulation of construction debris on a piece of property within their jurisdiction (Health Dept.
V. Roehsler, 2014). The first search was conducted on May 5th, 1987, the same day the complaint
was received. Subsequent inspections were conducted on May, June, September, October; as well
as April, June and October of the following year (Health Dept. V. Roehsler, 2014). The defendant s
property is located

Steven Spielberg Filmmaking is one of the most unique, creative, and innovative projects that
someone can complete. The film industry is a true art form, and the appreciation for the industry
from the actors and actresses, to the filmmakers, producers, and directors continues to increase.
Attending a premier, or just going to the local movie theater on a Friday night to see a movie that
looks enticing from the trailers that have been seen is one of the most fun parts of living. ... Show

There is no doubt about this. But, it is the ways that make these filmmakers some of the greatest
of all time. Ford uses optimism in his films; he represents the struggles in real life situations, like
he does in ?Grapes of Wrath?, even though the film is based off of a book. This is a way for him
that he can connect to the audience. He directed many war films, and they were authentic
because he was in the war and he saw what happened in many different areas. For Spielberg, he
believed in extraordinary circumstances, which is why he directed many movies about dinosaurs
and aliens. But, in these movies, symbolism is portrayed because it asks if there is other life out
there. This is what makes it enticing to the audience. Both of these men are some of the greatest of
all time and they are both very familiar in many

The Western Libya Security Council Resolution
The western Libya Security Council to authorise the use of force against Libya under United
Nations Security Council resolution (UNSCR) 1973 provided that it protected civilians and it did
not lead to a force of occupation of any kind. This essay will critically discuss the proposition that
UNSCR 1973 changed the law regarding the use of force under Chapter VII of the United Nations
Charter prior to discussing the proposition a definition on the law regarding the use of force as
provided by Chapter VII will be useful.
Generally the prohibition of the use of force is a cornerstone upon which international law is built
as the ICJ affirmed in the Armed Activities Case. This prohibition is contained in article 2(4) of the
United Nations Charter (UNC) which provides that all members shall refrain from using the threat
or use of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of any state. Under chapter
VII there is an exception to the prohibition on force in which the Security Council can use to
maintain or restore international peace and security. To rely upon this provision Security Council
must establish there is a threat to the peace, breach of the peace or an act of aggression under
article 39. The council then has the choice to order peaceful enforcement measures (Art 41) or
undertake militarily measures (Art42). The capacity of the Security Council to categorise a
situation and indicate measures under chapter VII is not unlimited. As it must interpret

  • 2. Macbeth Interview Interviewer: Hello Macbeth. Thank you for attending this interview. Would you mind briefing me your whole story? Macbeth: Yes, of course but it s rather intricate. Interviewer: Why do you think your story is intricate? Macbeth: My story is rather unpredictable one and it is all due to my hasty decisions. I basically killed the King of Scotland to become the King and I was defeated in a battle and lost my power as king! I misused my power as a king and I suffered. Interviewer: That was quite a story. There s a saying, with great power, comes great responsibility. But you becoming King, don t you think you abused your power? Since the start? Macbeth: From the story it is quite evident how I went from being a brave and courageous man to becoming a lowly person who has to kill someone to attain power. This just showed that power corrupts ambition. My nature degraded and this I resorted to killing and/or murdering others families who were in my way of becoming the king. My degrading nature also affected my ambition, before I viewed attaining the power of becoming the King as an honor but due to my wife s persuasion, I rather viewed it as a challenge and made sure that I acquired it. This ended up having a negative impact on all the other characters in the story. From the guards to the little children, no one was spared. Many lost their families, children lost their fathers and vice versa. I became so caught up with the power of becoming the King that I even lost my wife. Even she had become corrupt with power but guilt caught up to her earlier than me and she killed herself. It was such a shame! Interviewer: If you could have the chance to change your actions and rectify what you had done, what would you do? How would your resulting new actions have a different impact on what will ... Model of Health In Maslow s hierarchy of needs there are five levels of desires or basic needs that motivate people described (Fiest amp; Fiest, 2009, pg. 280). Starting with the most basic needs for survival the levels are physiological, safety, love and belongingness, esteem, and self actualization (Fiest amp; Fiest, pg. 280). As one need is met an attempt is made to achieve the next level. If one is able to reach what is known as self actualization, the highest level, values such as truth, justice, beauty simplicity, individuality, balance, and harmony are usually greatly respected (Fiest amp; Fiest, pg. 283 and McMinn, 1996). As McMinn points out that these values are extraordinarily like the fruit of the Spirit as described by Paul in Galatians 5:22 23, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self control. Congressmen in Washington D.C. halted their activities to be their constituents; however, the Nixon administration was laboring at what would become the capstone of environmental policy, the EPA. While Earth Day was the launch of environmentalism in the modern sense, individuals had been combating natural resource degradation for centuries. In 1849, Henry David Thoreau published a compilation of lectures, Walden, that would become the standard by which all subsequent nature writings are judged. John Muir, father of the American preservationist movement, cofounded the Sierra Club, which preserved California wild lands. Both Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt worked during their tenure as presidents to save the National Park System ( Environmentalism ). After World War II, the United States birthrate skyrocketed, and people found themselves living on the edge of parks and nature. The public began to question whether the government was working to preserve untouched land for future generations. When Rachel Carson published Silent Spring in 1962, the era of environmentalism was born. This movement demanded the state not only preserve the Earth, but act to regulate and punish those who polluted it (Farrah). The work on the pesticide poisoning of man sparked a powerful public ... In modern day society, it can be seen as slavery and Americans today have become accustomed to the voluntary army system we currently have. • 7. The Beef With Antibiotics The Beef with Antibiotics In recent years, Americans have been blaming antibiotics used in animals to be processed for food for many of the growing number of health problems in developed countries. Fast food restaurants are making movements to remove antibiotic treated meats from their menus. This movement is causing quite the stir in consumers and livestock producers alike. Do the antibiotics used in beef really contribute to antibiotic resistant diseases? Should antibiotics be outlawed in the use of farm animals? The eradication of antibiotic use in America s beef industry is not feasible due to its usage in the treatment and control of deadly or discomforting diseases. Presently, speculations have risen about the amount of antibiotics used in the livestock industry and the desire to consume antibiotic free meats. What is not understood, however, is the USDA has been monitoring the amount of antimicrobial residue in meats for several years. If unsafe levels are detected the meat is not allowed to be sold for human consumption. Yet, fast food chains such as Subway and Chipotle are claiming to go completely antibiotic free within the next decade. The practicality of this becoming a reality is slim due to the need to control, treat, and prevent diseases. To truly understand the importance of the antibiotic usage in cattle it must first be understood what antibiotics are and the reasons they are used. Additionally, the use of vaccinations should be taken into account for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parrott Liberty University March 1, 2015 Abstract This paper will summarize the theory of family systems developed by Murray Bowen. It will describe the eight key components to Bowenian therapy and the techniques used during practice. Strengths and limitations will be exposed, followed by a summary of the importance of integration between psychology and family systems theory. Keywords: Bowen, integration, family systems theory Part I Introduction Bowen family systems theory is based on the view that the family is an emotional unit. The theory uses systems thinking to describe the interactions and relationships within the family. Given families are deeply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who are undifferentiated, on the other hand, react emotionally and impetuously. Unable to maintain their own autonomy, they become fused with others in their family. Their emotional patterns are in sync with other members and they have a difficult time separating what they feel from the emotions of the family unit (Kerr Bowen, 1988). Intelligence does not determine the level of differentiation. Highly intelligent people can have low differentiation. The level of differentiation refers to the degree in which a family member can think and act for themselves while dealing with an emotional issue (Kerr Bowen, 1988). Intimate relationships often include bouts of anxiety. In families, as the anxiety increases between two people, they make seek to bring in a third person to attempt to gain stability. This process is known as triangulation. With the involvement of the third person, the anxiety is spread across more people and appears to lighten. While the tension may appear to decrease, the possibility of increasing the original problem persists. With three players now involved, the original dyad fails to solve the problem which caused the anxiety to begin with (Bevcar, 2009). Bowen researchers consider triangles to be a normal part of relationships. Triangles are the basis of Bowen s multigenerational theory (Rabstejnek, 2012). If anxiety and reactivity can be properly managed, triangles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Doctrine Of Utilitarianism Essays The Doctrine of Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is a doctrine that revolves around two concepts: happiness and consequentialism. It follows the Greatest Happiness Principle which is, The creed which accepts as the foundation of morals, Utility, or the Greatest Happiness Principle, holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness (Mill 239). Utilitarianists most vast idea is creating the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people and to end pain and suffering with this principle by using Utilitarian Calculus. In Utilitarian Calculus, one would analyze the situation and as long as the action has a greater positive effect (more happiness) overall than a negative effect (pain and suffering) then the act is moral. Singer had many arguments when it comes to animal rights and speciesism. Singer defines speciesists as individuals who give greater weight to the interests of members of their own species when there is a clash between their interests and the interests of those of other species. Human speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when it is felt by pigs or mice as when it is felt by humans (Singer Equality). Singer s main point when explaining animal rights is that equality does not require equal rights. Singer believes it is unrealistic and irrational to compare a dying mouse to a dying person because they do not have equal rights and situations in life. He states, It ... • 10. Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that without the ability to compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our lives, but remain between life s lightness and heaviness. He does this by illustrating the relationships between four characters: Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, and Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a brilliant surgeon from Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met Tereza, who was his waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of her favorite compositions by Beethoven was playing on the radio and that he enjoyed literature. Tereza evidently followed Tomas to Prague with her life packed within a suitcase and she intended to offer her life to him. The two started living with each other, but Tomas was incapable of terminating his bachelor lifestyle full of mistresses. He tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza found a letter from one of his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to Tomas saying, I want to make love to you in my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people. The audience won t be allowed up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16). Tomas confessed and told her that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her. This information marred Tereza s mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares and began contemplating suicide. He then married her, to relieve her of her distress. Yet he still kept his mistresses. Eventually Sabina and Tereza become close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained the same. Sabina, Tereza, and Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting Czechoslovakia. Tereza left behind her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit home alone as Tomas continued his affairs. She then began to believe, when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak have to be strong enough to leave. (Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to Prague. Tomas was enjoying his liberation for a few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This evidently meant that the couple gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple would be allowed to leave again due to the Communist regime. In ... • 11. Pericles Acropolis Speech The ruler of Athens, Pericles (495 429 BCE) convinced the Athenians to rebuild the Acropolis instead of leaving it in ruin as a reminder of the price of war. (Sayre 58) From the rebuilding of Acropolis came the Golden Age. Pericles thought that by rebuilding the Acropolis, it could stand as a memorial to the Persian War and to Athena, the patron of the Athenian people. Phidias was a sculptor whom Periclesplaced in charge of the sculptural program for the new buildings of Acropolis. Pericles very much wanted Athens to be the leading example for Greece. He was very proud of the men who had fallen in their battles of the Peloponnesian War, even writing a speech for them. During the rule of Pericles, the rebuilding of the Parthenon took place. Along with Ictinus, Callicrates and Phidias are credited in the designing of the Parthenon. The Parthenon was completed in 432 BCE. It took fifteen years of construction. The Parthenon was built not only to give thanks to Athena, but was also a sign of power. Ictinus and Callicrates wanted the structure to represent the Doric order. They wanted everything to be proportioned and to look as perfect as possible so they used the golden section; also called the golden rectangle or golden spiral. Beatty had read books himself in the past but was never caught for it. Theme Of Symbolism In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Of the many literary devices used by writers to make their work more powerful and layered, symbolism is one of the most effective, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a text that relies heavily on its use to develop its narrative. The novella recounts, in the form of a pseudo journalistic reconstruction, the murder of Santiago Nasar in a small Colombian town in the mid 1900 s. Through the course of the novel, Marquez employs various symbols to reinforce key ideas, themes and techniques. This helps the novella break the monotony of a linear storyline and unfolds the plot in a unique way that compounds both effect and meaning. The use of the pig knives as a murder weapon is also symbolic of the crassness of the decision to murder Santiago. The novel states that the Vicario brothers had less than a day to plan the execution of Santiago, since the were told of their sister s loss of virginity a short time before three on the morning they killed Santiago Nassar. It is widely agreed that problems with information security and managerial control over spreadsheet accuracy stem from the inherent nature of spreadsheet software. The first problem is the difference between making a spreadsheet simply appear on the display screen and constructing a well designed spreadsheet characterized by integrity and build in controls. This is particularly troublesome since once they are set up, spreadsheets may be used for an extended period of time and are often copied and distributed to others. If errors have been programmed into the spreadsheet s original version, they will affect the spreadsheet s output forever and be replicated and compounded each time the spreadsheet is reproduced (Busbin et al, 1990). Secondly, because spreadsheet software allows convenient alteration of value and design, without built in controls subsequent users may alter spreadsheet structure and thereby unknowingly compromise the integrity of the original design, and at the worst, could be flawed final decision making due to a reliance upon erroneous information (Busbin et al, 1990). • 19. The Past, Present and Future of Social Security Essays Social Security A Historical View Social security, the federal retirement system, is one of the most popular government programs in United State?s history. Today, Social Security benefits are the backbone of the nation s retirement income system. The long road to the successful development of social security began in 1935. Before 1935, very few workers received job pensions. Those workers that were covered never received benefits because they were not guaranteed. Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the original Social Security Act. It comprised of two services: a Social Security retirement benefit that applied only to workers, and a welfare program for the elderly called Old Age Assistance. Social... Women were, also, allowed to retire at 62 with benefits equal to 80 percent of what they would have received at age 65. Men were offered a similar early retirement benefit program in 1961. By the mid 1960?s, Social Security had demonstrated success by achieving its primary goal of reducing the percentage of elderly living in poverty. New legislation that included Medicare and Medicaid added to the success of Social Security by increasing the tax base for Social Security and raising benefits by 7 percent, by allowing retirement recipients to work without losing benefits, and by amplifying the definition of disability. In 1969 benefits were raised by 15 percent. In 1972 they were raised by 20 percent. They were, also, indexed to increase at the rate of inflation. In 1972 the United States suffered an economic downturn. Legislators worked on ensuring that the Social Security program pay all the benefits that had been promised. What happens when the light travels from one medium to the other: The light travels everywhere, hitting everything and at the same time reflecting at a certain angle.. When speed of light is normally being discussed, it is mostly being referred to its maximum speed that it can hit, and that is the speed of light in a vacuum. Risatti (2008:116) states that although craft and design are closely related, there is a distinction between them. Crafts have been developed within cultures, but have been modified by design and both involve a different way of thinking. So are they one and the same or different? In this essay I m going to go through 6 different examples; tradition, innovation, method, materials, uniqueness and lifestyle, where design has taken the simple craft and changed it to something new, proving my point that craft and design are in fact more different than the same. Tradition There is a noticeable difference in how craft and design play a role in tradition. Craft is a way the people of a culture expressed there believes, whereas design has challenged it. Cognitive development is a broad domain that refers to the development of the mind. Cognitive processes are connected to the growth and decline of memory. Hypothese of Kaibab Plateau in the Grand Canyon Essay Many will attest to the grandeur of the natural feature that exists in northern Arizona, but the formation of the Grand Canyon has befuddled geomorphologists to this day. This confusion can be attributed to the Kaibab Plateau, an anomaly considering the Colorado River traverses it seamlessly. Four prevalent hypotheses have been proposed since the 19th century, starting with the lake overflow proposition first brought up by John Newbury and then reinforced by Eliot Blackwelder. Newbury argued that a structure must have ponded an ancient lake causing an overspill to cut into the Grand Canyon. This argument holds that the river must have come after the plateau s existence. Antecedent supporters will claim that the river could flow anywhere on the Kaibab Plateau, but evidence of a river that strayed has not been found. In addition, the canyons of the Mogollon Highlands show evidence of ancient rivers that once flowed northeast against the southwest direction of the Colorado River the Antecedent proposition purports (3c). Gravel sediment where the Mogollon Highland s would have drained onto the Colorado Plateau supports this statement (3b). A true testament to the power of the Colorado River from the Rocky Mountains is evident in its capabilities to erode away volcanic bedrock in the past (5c). As many as 13 volcanic dams were formed in the Grand Canyon s past, but all did not withstand the Colorado River. Basaltic lava flows are relatively resistance, but the river has successfully eroded about 11,300 feet of volcanic material, equivalent to twice the depth of the Grand Canton itself (8b). Further proof of major rivers ability to effectively erode barriers can be found near Cameron, where the Little Colorado River has managed to change its course north and remove 150 feet of bedrock material (5c). The light we view ourselves in determines the very basics of who we think we are, and what action we think we should take to fulfill our identity; to make it flourish. Yet every foundation, save that of Jesus Christ, has the tendency to crumble and fall apart beneath us. These twelve can be simplified into two basic groups: The performance of an individual (Intellectually, athletically, occupationally, or otherwise), and their relationships with others. Of these two groups, the latter has been more definitive in our society today because media influences have put even greater stress on those who build their identity on relationships. USA Today conducted a survey in 2014, revealing that almost all the college students they interviewed have had a fear of being left out that has been generated by social media. Because they have let these relationships define them, they are constantly placed in a state of potential identity crisis. A relational problem with a group of friends or a partner could lead to a serious breakdown of how that individual views themselves.
