Privacy, Surveillance, And Law Essay
Introduction
1As technology changes the way we live, especially by making communication and transactions
easier, the security of our personal information becomes an important issue if people are expected to
trust the government, companies, and each other. Although scholars have provided several
accounts of the importance of privacy, it still remains unclear how individuals view and value it. For
the purposes of this essay, privacy is broadly defined as the controlled access to personal
information or ideas. In this paper, I will examine Richard Posner s article Privacy, Surveillance,
and Law and Neil Richards s paper The Dangers of Surveillance. Although both Posner and
Richards begin with the same assumption that people fear public scrutiny, their different
interpretations of this human nature lead to different conclusions. While Richards relates privacy
to our fundamental rights so that he considers any surveillance dangerous, Posner s belief that we
value privacy as a possession that promotes other ends is more justified because it allows
individuals to weigh the costs and benefits of surveillance.
People Fear Public Scrutiny
2Fundamentally, both Posner s and Richards s arguments stem from the assumption that people
fear public scrutiny. Accordingly, Richards claims that public exposure pressures people into
conformity. The prospect of drawing unwanted attention due to deviant behavior encourages people
to change such behavior. This is an observation of the

Compare And Contrast Capitalism And Capitalism
The issue I intend to research is a critical evaluation of capitalism and free markets versus
socialism and Keynesian economics. In the twentieth century every human civilization was
shaken not just by the aftermath of a worldwide war, but by a political rift without equal. This
last concerns the best possible part and elements of government a subject of critical significance
the welfare of all humankind. No other worldwide issue has ever created so profound and
troublesome rupture in popular supposition at high cost to human life. The issue is, figuratively,
regardless of whether an individual possesses himself and the rewards for his labor and mind or
whether he is claimed by the collective and is born accordingly obligated. In other words, regardless
of whether the collective or government should take the chief part in the exercises of the group and
control with omnipotent powers the developments and welfare of the individuals, or whether it
might stand separated from the battle, mediating upon its issues, ensuring reasonable equity to all,
and safeguarding the tenets of fair play. That is to say, whether the administration should take upon
itself the power and elements of the old fashioned slave proprietor, or should leave the society free
to get themselves straightened out into entrepreneur and worker, while the collective government
goes about as the judge, ready in the communal interest to exert physical and financial force against
the individual. This

Essay On The Desert Storm
The Desert Storm or as some know, the Persian Gulf War, took place in August of 1990. Saddam
Hussein, the leader of Iraq was the main person involved in the start of the war. The war included
many allied countries, they included a big part of the Middle East, Canada, United States and the
United Kingdom and many more. After lasting 100 hours the war ended on February 28th, 1991
(The Gulf War,1991)
The Desert Storm, which is also known as the Persian Gulf War and known as Operation Desert
Storm, started at the end of the Cold War in 1990. The Desert Storm happened because Saddam
Hussein, who was the leader of Iraq ordered invasion and occupation of the neighboring country
of Kuwait, in August of 1990. Hussein was told by the United Nations Security Council to
withdraw from Kuwait by the middle of January 1991, and Hussein disregarded their demands.
Because he refused to withdraw the Persian Gulf War was triggered (Feinstein, 39). The Iraqi
takeover posed a threat to Saudi Arabia, which was another oil supplying country for the United
States. If Saudi Arabia took over by Hussein than he would have controlled one fifth of the world
s oil supply. The Middle East had their eyes on the White House, waiting for a response from
President George H. W. Bush. When he found out his response was, This will not stand, meaning
that Hussein taking over the Middle East s oil would not be tolerable (Operation Desert Storm).
In August of 1990, the dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, invaded

Differences In Warfare During The Napoleonic War
To find the differences in warfare during the Napoleonic Wars that point towards total war, this
research paper will analyze two distinct battles: The Glorious First of June (1794) and The Battle
of Trafalgar (1805). Both battles took place during the Napoleonic Wars. Through these two battles,
one can see the distinct changes in warfare after 1792. In the two battles during the Napoleonic Wars
, new strategy and tactics will be detailed of which describe the significant changes in naval warfare.
The first battle worth discussing is The Glorious First of June, which took place towards the
beginning of the Napoleonic Wars. According to Nicholas Blake of the Navy Records Society: On
1st of June 1794, the French fleet consisted of twenty six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This battle took place in 1805 and is largely considered to be one that decided the war at sea
during the Napoleonic Wars. With Lord Nelson dying in the Battle of Trafalgar, Vice Admiral
Collingwood provides a glimpse of what the British hoped to achieve in the battle: [T]he conflict
was severe; the enemy s ships were fought with a gallantry highly honourable to their officers,
but the attack on them was irresistible, and it pleased the Almighty Disposer of all Events, to
grant his Majesty s arms a complete and glorious victory. The Battle of Trafalgar followed in the
footsteps of The Glorious First of June in that they both had the end goal of achieving decisive
victories that had the potential to change the course of the war. Collingwood not only gives a
sense of nationalism comparable to Lord Howe, but he also conveys a sense of necessity or
urgency to engage in conflict. An important nuance of total war stems from the need to constantly
be in battle; to always want to engage an enemy and see the battle through to the bitter end. These
arguments are further exemplified within Collingwood s final thoughts: I fear the numbers that
have fallen will be found very great, when the returns come to me; but it having blown a gale of
wind ever since the action. Even with fears of great numbers being sacrificed in battle, the Royal
Navy continued to press forward. To the British, the number sacrificed meant little in
comparison to the necessity and glory of defeating the French. Moreover, Nelson prepared the
men for battle by saying: My Noble lads, this will be a glorious day for England, whoever lives to
see it. I shan t be satisfied with twelve ships this day, as I took at the Nile. Nelson explicitly stated
his desire for an even more decisive victory than in previous battles, showing a remarkable sense of
dissatisfaction with mediocre results. Only massive wins would be counted as

Jewish And Christian Influence On Society
God and humanity are separated so completely that a sin against humanity is really unthinkable:
every deed is to be considered solely with respect to its supernatural consequences, without regard
for its natural consequences; that is what Jewish feeling demands, for whatever is natural is
considered ignoble. (pg. 188)
When we think of sin we often think of God and the supernatural consequences from the sin. We
then have the problem of separating and forgetting the impact the sin could have on humanity and
in the natural world. The reason for this separation is from the Jewish and Christian influence on
the world through religion. These influences view the natural things in humanity with a lowliness.
Jewish and Christian thought has had an impact on society when dealing with morality and sin.
They view sin as an act against God and that it will have consequences. They have the problem of
separating the supernatural from humanity. There could also be the problem of forgetting the
consequences or no consequences of the sin on humanity. Some might view certain actions as a sin
but to the community these actions are not a serious crime with no actual consequences. I agree
that God and humanity are separated and will continue to do so. I think that sin is becoming only
of the supernatural and forgotten in humanity. Humanity and God are becoming more separated in
what a sin is and the impact it has, but I also think that they should be joined together in that sin
against God is

Misinformation Theory
The malleability of human memory is a widely debated and researched topic in recent psychology
due to our reliance on memory in almost every aspect of society, specifically in eyewitness
testimonies. If a witness testifies to their memory of an event, then how could they possibly get the
details wrong? Research shows that a large portion of human memoryis actually reconstructive
essentially, we unconsciously alter or attend to specific aspects of memory according to our
emotions, expectations and prior knowledge (Howe Knott, 2015). This theory is most apparent in
the psychological phenomenon referred to as the misinformation effect , the idea that introducing a
person to false information, even after encoding, can cause them to unconsciously... Show more

Research proves that stress and misinformation can unconsciously alter and restructure the memory
of an event (Kaplan et al., 2016). To what extent and in what direction though, research in

s susceptibility to misinformation? This study proposes to examine the interaction between the
amount of cortisol in the body, the type of stress and the susceptibility to misinformation.
Participants will be randomly assigned to 1 of 3 stressful events, a psychosocial TSST, a cold
pressor test or an injection of cortisol. Each participant will undergo one of the stressful events,
watch a neutral video and then be introduced to a wide range of misinformation revolving around
the video they just watched. Memory performance and the misinformation test will be measured
through a verbal tested administered the next day. Cortisol levels will be measured both before the

actors. Jack Nicholson in this movie does a outstanding job being Col. Nathan Jessep in making
the movie goer not like him for many different reasons. Jack nicholson uses plenty of emotion
throughout the movie showing how powerful he thinks he is, at times how corrupt and cuel he can
be. You can tell from Nicholsons facial expressions throughout the play on what he is thinking and
what he might want to do next. Jack nicholsons character in the film is abundantly high thinking
of himself, the way that he responds to the other officers is in a tone making it crystal clear that he
is above them in rank, but he alslo has a short teemper throughout the film you will se him use
sarcasm or anger to show his pig headedness. Rob Reiners film showes imense spectical throughout
the movie. Using military uniforms and filming this movie on an actual base at times, makes this
movie an all together great source of spectical.

Suez Canal Crisis Analysis
Heavily influenced by foreign affairs, even as Canada grew more distinguished in their own
independence, international conflicts continued to be a leading factor in shaping Canada s identity
as a country. Canada s various stances when it comes to the Suez Canal, and First and Second Iraq
wars, are excellent examples of the progress Canadahas made within their foreign policy, as they ve
developed as a country over time. Advancing further away from blindly following connected
powers like Britain and the United States, Canada finds its ways to show its uniqueness in the face

Looking towards Canada for support they were met with a surprising hostility towards the idea

come to an agreement no action would be taken by Canada.
Although many believed this to be a controversial decision, Christien was firm in their choice and

Theme In O. Henry s The Gift Of The Magi
Theme in The Gift of the Magi Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are the wisest.
(Henry 108). This is one of the quotes from O. Henry s short story, The Gift of the Magi. The
Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is short about two adults making a sacrifice for one another. The
Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is about sacrificing something for someone else which is revealed
by the author s irony, descriptive language, and dialogue. In this story, The Giftof the Magi, the
author uses different situations throughout the story to show irony. For there lay the combs the
set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped for long in a Broadway window. (108). In
these words, the author is describing what Della had wanted for a very long time, but no longer
has her long hair. This represents irony because Della sold her hair to buy the watch chain for
Jim and now he no longer has the watch and Della is left with eighty one cents. The story also
states, I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops
on. (108). Briefly, the author shows that Jim has given up his most valuable possession for
someone he loved. This shows irony because now Della has no hair for the combs and Jim has no
watch for his new watch chain. They are both left with two useless items. According to the author,
the text also says, And here i have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish
children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house.
(108). In this quote, the author is directly stating how irony is used in the story. This is showing
how the two people sacrificed something for each other but ended up both items being useless
because they gave up the things the items were useful to. Given these points, the author uses irony
to demonstrate problems throughout the story in different situations.
During the story the author also uses descriptive language to show some of the events and main
issues throughout the story. According to the text, Will you buy my hair? asked Della. I buy hair,
said Madame. Take yer hat off and let s have a sight at the looks of it. Down rippled the brown
cascade. Twenty dollars, said

Computer Skills Can Improve Your Career Prospects
Computer skill is something that is of the utmost importance nowadays. With the sudden wide
spread of computers everywhere in the world today, every field of business requires their
employees to have a significant amount of computer skills. Improving on these computer skills
will help you improve your total career prospects in the near or distant future. Because of this, you
should learn all you can about computers, no matter what field you specialize in. Simply learning
how to use a personal computerreally isn t all that difficult. It may be intimidating at first, most of
all if you have never sat in front of a computer before, but with some practice, you will find that
the computer is a very easy gadget to get along with. Perhaps the best way to teach yourself how
to use a computer is by fiddling around with it and experimenting with things on your own. If
you absolutely must, you can consider partaking in a computer training course, so that you can
learn faster, but this really isn t a requirement. Any software that can be used on or installed into
a personal computer is generally produced with the user in mind. The Windows operating system
makes use of a graphical user interface, which makes the overall operation of the personal

How Social Class Influences Empathic Accuracy

Carlos Albizu University Introduction
Social Class, Contextualism, and Empathic Accuracy by
Michael W. Kraus, Stephanie Cote, and Dacher Keltner
The main aim of the paper was to examine how social class influences empathic accuracy. This
aim is important as it will help to uncover the psychological processes that inspire the various life
circumstances of lower and upper class individuals. In addition, social class such as socioeconomic
status or SES pervades social life, in which it can determine the participation within social
institutions, influence preference for cultural and artistic symbols, and increase susceptibility to

Studies have found that social class is measured by the indicators of material wealth, occupational
prestige or educational achievement. Due to this signaling process, an individual may develop
subjective perceptions of his or her rank in the social hierarchy. Additionally, research suggests
lower class individuals life outcome is often times more dependent on external forces in the social
context than upper class individuals. Furthermore, research noted empathic accuracy tends to
increase with more interdependence and may be an important predictor of relationship results and
social adjustment. The author asserts that research studies supporting these theoretic arguments are
suggestive but limited as they have not addressed how class based perceptual tendencies may have
pronounced effects on emotional processes. The current study was conducted in three different
experiments. First, participants were tested on whether or not lower social class is related to an
elevated empathic accuracy. In the second experiment, researchers tested whether or not social class
predicts accuracy in judging emotions during interaction. In addition, researchers examined whether
or not a more pronounced focus on the context explains the relationship between social class and
empathic accuracy. Subsequently, researchers used SES of participants to measure social class. In
the third experiment, researchers manipulated

monkey soldiers in Vietnam. The photo below shows the monkey terrorist with his machine gun.
However, no proof that a monkey terrorist is even a reality. This is just propaganda from Mullah
Omar and the Taliban.
It has been noted from all the propaganda that the Taliban can get the Terrorist Monkeys to shoot
guns; however, they shoot at everything such as trainers, cooks, dogs, other monkeys and even
look down the barrel of their guns and shoot themselves. Since the Taliban believes in martyrs,
the monkeys will be the greatest martyrs because they kill themselves as well as each other. The
biggest problem in trying to train monkey terrorist is trying to get the guns out of their hands; and
the only way to remove the guns are to trade fruit for their weapons or just wait until the monkeys
get tired of playing soldiers and lay down their weapons. For some reason, Americans and their
allies have nothing to worry about because when it comes to monkey terrorist uniforms, it is
considered a joke. However, it would be interesting to see monkeys fight for the Taliban.
If the Taliban actually had monkey terrorist to fight Americans and our Allies, we would have to
retaliate by training monkeys to counteract whatever Taliban did and that would mean that our

Comparing Hemingway s A Very Short Story and Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise
When you first read a tragic, melodramatic love scene you feel like your heart is breaking too.
Sometimes you cry. It is only after the initial rush of feelings that you begin to feel cheated.
Usually the kind of writing that gives you the urge to be demonstrative does not stay with you as
long as something more subtle. In Scott Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise, the reader is presented
with such a love scene in the form of a play. I admit to having sobbed for a solid minute after
reading about the ill fated romance between Amory Blaine and Rosalind Connage. However, the
same subject, with different characters, told in a much more concise, ... Show more content on

One of the ways that Hemingway achieves this is that his sentences alternate between dealing with
a very small detail or specific moment and moving the story through long periods of time. In the
opening paragraph of the story, Hemingway paints the picture of one night at the hospital. He takes
time to note that there were chimney swifts in the sky. Later on we skip through his entire
experience when he returns to the war, seeing the period only in terms of the girl. Hemingway can
move through time quickly in the story without losing the thread of the narrative. There is nothing
in the story that is not essential to understanding the experience of the boy and the girl.
In the Fitzgerald novel, on the other hand, there is so much extraneous material that it can be
difficult to process. The twenty five page section that deals with the romance even changes style
several times, moving from a play to prose and back again. There is none of the tight craftsmanship
found in the Hemingway story.
Amory and Rosalind s lines are full of clich eacute;s and bright, splashy comments. The stage
directions are things like, their eyes were blinded by tears, and other dramatic indications. The
Fitzgerald tale is one of intense but fleeting impressions.
Another important distinction between the two stories

lives in the original story, by having the two stick together and focus on what is important, they
would pose an unstoppable force to the Romans thus saving both their lives. The first instance of
Brutus and Cassius drift apart is in act four, scene two. The two revolutionaries... Show more

This ghost is actually the manifestation of Brutus doubt and guilt, which is why Caesar says,
thou shalt see me at Philippi, signifying that Brutus is not completely certain that his choice to
advance to Philippi is the best decision to make (4.3.327). In the author s plays, whenever a
character sees a ghost, it foreshadows their death later in the story. Brutus becomes fearful of
this, and selfishly puts his life above everyone else s. Without thinking, Brutus orders his

strategy, and he is aware of that. Brutus knows the strength of the Roman army but still sends

Brutus does not really care about Cassius anymore despite his farewell to him in act five. The war
tactic that Brutus uses ensures the death of the army and himself as well, however this could all be

Bombing Of Dresden Essay
To what extent was the bombing of Dresden justified and what are the resulting consequences?
Introduction: Dresden The bombing of Dresden from February 13 to February 15, 1945 remains
one of the most controversial bombings in World War II. Located in eastern Germany, Dresden
was targeted by Allied bombers during the final months World War II in the European theatre. The
justification of the bombing remains controversial because the city was neither a political center
nor an industrial center contributing to the Nazi war effort. The one word that describes Dresden
before its decimation was innocence. Prior to the bombing, Dresden was a cultural center and was
one of the world s most beautiful cities termed the Florence on the Elbe due... Show more content

The Soviets urged Roosevelt and Churchill to bomb Dresden to eliminate railroad junctions and
factories surrounding Dresden, arguing the attack would disorient the German war machine to aid
the advancement of Soviet troops from the Eastern front. Prior to Dresden, the Soviets suffered
massive causalities and by the war s end, the total death toll approximated 20 million. All leaders
agreed during Yalta that bombing raids on transportation, communication, and manufacturing hubs
would bring the Nazi regime to a standstill. Despite the popular belief that Dresden did not house
any manufacturing hubs that contributed to the Nazi war effort, the Allies reported several
factories in Dresden. As Chen states, However, Allied reports indicated the presence of the Zeiss
Ikon optical factory and Siemans glass factory (which produced gun sights), and other factories

Dresden was also a communication hub that connected telephone lines to the Eastern front. The
Allied leaders reasoned the strategic bombing against these hubs will severely disrupt the Germans

Independent contractors win out best in sole proprietorships because they pay the basic needs,
and that s their investment, and they see the profits, while the company eats the loss. Bread
vendors are a good example of this. They make money on the bread they sell, but don t lose
money on the staled bread they return. This applies to independent contractors that serve as
drivers for those companies. These drivers supply their own trucks and insurance, they only do a
delivery service and make out the orders. The drivers are not responsible for the losses on bread
not sold. They are given a percentage on bread sold. They file their own personal taxes and are not
liable for any company assets or liabilities. In closing, decision making on which LLC to be
associated with is based on size and the amount of interest or investments in a company. Every
company is different and their classification will be based on the operations of the business and its
overall needs some require different financial investments, and the more of the financial
requirement, the more of the obligation for more partners and funding, but also shared liability
through ownership. References Bright Hub. (10/30/2009). Pass Through Taxation. Retrieved from

Eisenhower s definition of the military industrial complex had fundamentally been altered by

In this city it is filled with young adults and they are the majority of the community. A lot of the
young adults have jobs and there are some that are going to school. Younger adults are more prone
to trying new things which sometimes can lead into a health issue. In this city I will be discussing
a main health problem that might be relatable to other cities. The health problem that will be
discussed is the use of tobaccoproducts in young adults. Some products are cigarettes, e cigarettes,

The relatable health problem is tobacco use. Tobacco can be used in many ways, but most
commonly it is smoked or chewed. I chose this health topic because it is a concerned of mine on

Social Welfare Reform
Many of the conflicting interests between different parties in the U.S. are what shaped our
social welfare laws from the colonial period and after the civil war. When looking at the
conflicts we faced back then, it is evident that the greater outlook in society was based off of
morals and the Christian view our country was built on. These beliefs are still very prominent in
our thinking as a society today although there have been some changes in our social welfare, that
go against the law of our creator . One of the main conflicts that occurred after the civil war was

that established change in social welfare, was women entering public life after the civil war.
During the civil war women took jobs that were vacated by men, and felt this was proof of equality.
They were disappointed when the fourteenth amendment explicitly excluded women as voters
(Stern Axinn, 2012, p.101). Women were further marginalized in society when the fifteenth
amendment extended suffrage to black men and excluded women. After the fifteenth amendment,
the national African women s suffrage association replaced the American equal rights association,
and asserted that women could increase the educated voting population and reduce the influence
of the ignorant populace, (Stern Axinn, 2012, p.101). The number of women that were a part of
this association was small mainly because it was frowned upon, society found it to be a call for
political power and women who demanded it were suspect. The government and society at this
time still favored the Christian outlook and stated that a woman s nature is to attend home duties
and men to do outside work, not only does the law of the creator say this but men s physical
ability to do outside work also solidified this view (Stern Axinn,2012, p.103). Women did begin to
join other organizations which allowed them to find outlets in the limiting world they lived in.
These organizations included the women s auxiliaries of the Patrons of Husbandry, the General
Federation of Women s Clubs, and especially the National Women s Christian Temperance Union
(WCTU) which became the most influential women s organization in the country (Stern
Axinn,2012, p.101 102). Women were able to have these organizations in the public sphere
because they were justified as something that could enrich motherhood. For example as
technological advances took place and there began to be a falling birth rate women began to attend
colleges, this was rationalized by the larger public as education for motherhood (Stern

Causes Of The Pueblo Revolt
Pueblo revolt
The Pueblo revolt was the changing point for the relationship between the Spanish and native
population and one of the earliest tragedies to befall the Natives at the time but to explain what
lead to the revolt we must step back into history and look at the events that lead to this.
The Spanish had been expanding their influence in the new world by conquering the empires and

Spain. Starting in 1540 the Spanish moved into what would become New Mexico. With the Spanish
expansion came soldiers, missionaries, and settlers. These movements would lead to a

To understand Assistive technology (A.T.), we first should defined it. Assistive technology is

Principles And Elements Of The Four-Armed Ganesha
The Four Armed Ganesha, an Indian terra cotta relief plaque, created during the Gupta period
between the 4th and 7th century A.D, depicts the potbellied, four armed deity Ganesha, the
remover of obstacles in Hindu mythology. The 49.1 x 67.9 x 20.6 cm representational relief
plaque, conceived during India s classical age of sculpture, was discovered in the state of Uttar
Pradesh, located in the northern part of India. This magnificent piece is a representational form
of artwork. The sculpture s subject, a pan Hindu god, emerged as a deity somewhere as early as
1st 2nd century AD but had definitely come into prominence by the Gupta period. The deity is
considered to be a patron of science and art and is by far one of the most prominent Gods in the
Hindu doctrine. The sculpture is currently owned by the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas
after being acquired from Colnaghi Oriental, London in 1981. In this paper, I intend to interpret the
formal principles and elements of Four Armed Ganeshaand confabulate my experience of
perceiving this artwork.
The relief sculpture, a phenomenal archetype of ceramic art, produced purely through the usage
of a human s most basic machinery, fingers and thumbs, and through the most elemental material
wet earth, has a porous, coarse and rugged texture. Although the artwork does have a degree of
heaviness to it, terra cotta and clay do not have a high density as a result of the material s
porousness. The artwork is in a moderate hue of orange with a slight blend of tan, a pale tone of
the color brown, a color typical to artifacts and relics made of clay and earthen materials. The
sculpture is an example of a high relief, which is found throughout Hindu artworks, although not as
frequently as mid reliefs/ mezzo rilievo. The use of single material throughout the artwork and the
singular color adds unity to the artwork. Although the artwork is not symmetrical it seems that the
artwork would have looked solid, settled and balanced if it had not endured damage over time. The
majorly similar halves with 2 devas/devis hovering, one at the bottom and one at the top, along with
the giant deity right in the middle, seemed to have imparted balance to the artwork.

Literary Techniques Used In Sinclair Ross s The Painted Door

Summary Of First Missionary Journey
First Missionary Journey
The book of Acts describes how Paul was ministering in Antioch with Barnabas, when he was
directed by the Holy Spirit to be released from his Church duties. The Holy Spirit had another
assignment for Paul, and that was to go and take the Gospel more widely. Some believe that this
notion came from the Holy Spirit through fasting and prayer. Paul began his first missionary in the
town of Antioch. Throughout Paul s first missionary journey he was accompanied by Barnabas and
Barnabas cousin John Mark.
God gave Paul a mission to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles. They traveled from city to city
spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, the message was not always being received. It is
really no confirmed certainty on why John Mark eventually left Paul and Barnabas to return to
Jerusalem. The Jews went on record as being in opposition to the Gospel, but Paul kept preaching
the Gospel to the Gentiles. Paul saw that the Gentiles were very receptive to the Gospel.
Although many Gentiles accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ, there were Jews that continued to
display their anger towards the Gospel. There were some Jews that came and stirred up the
crowd at Lystra against Paul and Barnabas. This crowd also stoned and left Paul for dead, but
Paul did not allow that to stop him from preaching the Gospel to the city of Lystra. Lystra and

In the 1970s 1980s, total fertility rate in Japan fell below replacement levels, resulting in young

economy back on a stable growth path, my suggestion is to make adjustments that affect job
securities among employees, increasing economic certainties among married Japanese couples and
stimulating their fertility decisions. In addition, women at their reproductive age should be
supported in taking childcare leaves. Substituting labor saving technology and better utilizing
older workers are possible ways of coping with Japan s labor shortage. To revive the economic
growth, regulatory changes allow banks to classify restructured Small and Medium Sized
Enterprises (SME) loans normal if a company demonstrates its ability to make the loan perform
from five to ten years. Low productivity growth and shrinking working age

Memory in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay
Memory in Toni Morrison s Beloved Memories are works of fiction, selective representations of
experiences actual or imagined. They provide a framework for creating meaning in one s own
life as well as in the lives of others. In Toni Morrison s novel Beloved, memory is a dangerous and
debilitating faculty of human consciousness. Sethe endures the tyranny of the self imposed prison
of memory. She expresses an insatiable obsession with her memories, with the past. Sethe is
compelled to explore and explain an overwhelming sense of yearning, longing, thirst for something
beyond herself, her daughter, her Beloved. Though Beloved becomes a physical manifestation of
these memories, her will is essentially defined by and tied to the... Show more content on

Memories, however, persist. They remain, lurking in places like 124 and Sweet Home to remind
Sethe that the punishment she suffers is self inflicted and self perpetuating. First as a poltergeist
and later as a mysterious young woman, the memory of Beloved remains unrequited. Beloved s
appetite is insatiable. She never got enough of anything... the more she took, the more Sethe
began to talk, explain.. (240 1). No effort, no amount, no explanation is adequate. Sethe gives her
face to Beloved and still she demands more. Beloved eventually becomes bloated with Sethe s
loving excesses, but her thirst remains unquenched. Paul D. understands the dangers inherent in
this kind of love when he warns Sethe, Your love is too thick (164). Beloved has no distinct
identity separate from Sethe. Without Sethe, Beloved is ultimately left crouching in a dark, dark
place, forgetting to smile (252). Likewise, Sethe s own identity is nearly lost or completely
surrendered in her fusion with Beloved. Though short of ultimate union or reunion with Beloved in
death, Sethe is unable and unwilling to challenge Beloved s place in her mind and in her home.
Only help from others can save her. Denver makes the first humble appeals for help on behalf of
her mother. In doing so, she begins to understand and appreciate the vital necessity of a concept of
self, influenced by but not completely dependent upon memory. Though Denver does not directly

Humility Order And Temperance Definition
What do the virtues humility, order, and temperance mean in your life? These along with 10 other
virtues were very important in one of America s most preeminent inventor s career. This man was
Benjamin Franklin. His goal was to live a morally perfect life. With all of the achievements and
successes that occurred in Ben s life, this made me wonder if following these virtues could lead me
to any greatness. Nevertheless, I tried to achieve moral perfectionfor three days. During the three
days that I followed the virtues of humility, order, and temperance, I faced many struggles and
reached many mini victories. On Thursday, October 6th, I began my mission to become morally
correct by practicing the virtueof humility. I began my day complementing everyone on their
beautiful Fall Ball pictures that they posted on Social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this day, I decided to practice the virtue of temperance. I tried to go throughout the day eating
only three meals. Considering I am a big fan of food, I made many mistakes. I started off my day
fairly well with a well balanced breakfast. Around 10am, my sister came over with a batch of
freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. This is when my errors began. I ate an insanely large
amount of cookies. At lunch, I stayed pretty healthy by eating an salad with a peanut butter and
jelly. Sadly, around 3pm I decided that I absolutely needed to eat fruit. At least I made a healthy
choice at that point. But only two hours later my healthy choice was completely reversed when I
found my way back to the batch of chocolate chip cookies. I didn t eat anything else until dinner.
I eat grilled chicken and mashed potatoes. At this point all I wanted was chocolate ice cream and
I decided that I had already made enough mistakes that day. Before going to bed that night, I did
not feel happy with myself because of the many mistakes that I made that day. Moral perfection is
very hard to

Consequences Of Winning The Lottery
Imagine winning the lottery right now, smiling while holding a big check for five hundred
million dollars. Now imagine all of the things you could do with that money like buy a giraffe or
a lamborghini. You could even open up an orphanage for kids. Now think of all the bad that could
come out like becoming broke from lack of responsibility (financially) or losing all of your friends.
When people win the lottery, people like to focus on the positive elements, but no one chooses to
look at the negative elements. Although there are many risks involved in winning the lottery, I
would still love to win. Because I would have many more opportunities,I could help many people
in need, and I would have the freedom to do whatever I please.

Like Tupac Shakur once said I m not saying I m gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I
will spark the brain that will change the world (brainyquotes). With winning the lottery, I could
open good schools in communities where the schooling is either poor or it s not free. I could
give clean water to people in places where they don t have water. I could give food and shelter to
those who don t have it. A couple weeks ago, my family and I went on a trip to Dallas,Texas for
a family reunion and we stopped on this bridge and there was a homeless man standing with a
sign. I saw the man and I gave him $20 which was all the money in my purse because I felt that
the man needed it more than me. I realize that going to Clayton instead of some poor city school
and living in middle class America and having both my parents in my life that I have it better
than many of people, not only in Saint Louis, but in the world. I could be going to work
everyday as a 15 year old rather than school, living in some small house. The fact that 1 in 6
americans struggles to get enough to eat alone is enough to make me want to give back. I think
the first thing i would do with my money would be to open a foundation to find the cure of
different types of cancer. More specifically stomach and breast cancers, because those are the
cancers that affect me and my family the most. So I think

The Myth Of The Sphinx, An Oracle, And An Incestuous...
Oedipus
With all of the myths that have come to life on the big screen, this is one that may never make it.
It can be said that with all of the elements it possess it would be a prime opportunity to bring to
life the different aspects of humanity and its myth. Bringing the myth of the sphinx, an oracle, and
an incestuous family of epic proportions. Each of these different myths played a large role in Greek
mythology and other myths around the world.
Seeking the difference between each evolution of Oedipus s journey and how each aspect defines
him. Sphinxes are seen in many different Greek myths are a part of the Titan class. Exploring their
raw power and intellectual abilities plays into societal desire. Oracles are simple oracle and fortune
tellers depending on the information they are providing. This plays a key role in the perception that
man have about their abilities. And looking into the incestuous family complex that caused the fall
of a society. This is something that has been seen in many cultures under many different situations.
How the Greeks display chaos in Oedipus can be deflected. This myth depict and display different
binding facts about the culture and how it was transferred to written word shows that how people
identified perspective values. It can be said it is all due to the chaos that humans inherently possess.
Discussion
In some cases Sphinx s were used are guardians to great treasures or personal protection (Unknown,

Brook Trout Possibility Study
Cool, you want to get Brook Trout I think I can help you learn what they need. Brook trout will
need a few things, so when you are starting your aquarium you will need to go shopping. First of
all, trout need 7 10 ppm oxygen to survive or they will get sluggish. You can buy an oxygen with
an air pump and an airstone to pump the oxygen in the tank. Trout also need food, I would
recommend dry shrimp and it has to be once a day, because of it easy and puffs up in the water.
Next trout need clean water or their tank will get polluted. Buy a water filter and clean their tank
with new water 2 times a week. Trout need a PH of a perfect 6.5 7.5. If the PH level is below 6.5
they will get sluggish and if the PH level is higher 7.5 then they will

Adam Smith The Wealth Of Nations
In the novel, The Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith attempts to construct a new, fresh
understanding of what economics is. Smith was not content with the mercantilist system that
existed at the time of writing the novel (1776), however, he gives a very convoluted but creative
and unique account of an economic system found in the simple nature of mankind. The text is
defined through the use of fact heavy segways, tables and graphs, and Smith s personal research,
establishing his pledge to give evidence for what seem like timeless observations about the
nature of economics.
Books one and two mainly focus on the evolution of the division of labor idea and
describing how this division adds to the wealth of a society by creating a surplus that can be
divided among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Book three discusses Great Britain s social evolution, which begins, according to Smith,
with hunting and gathering societies and progresses through agricultural stages to ultimately
arrive at a state of international commerce. Smith claims that the fall of Rome and the beginning
of feudalism impeded progression by creating lower efficiency.
LaPenotiere 2
Book four criticizes mercantile commerce that characterized Europe during Smith s time of
writing the novel. Smith s main criticism of mercantilism is that it directly related precious
metals with value and wealth. Smith claims that, the real measure of the wealth of a nation is the
amount of goods and services that the nation creates, which, in today s society, is very true.
Coming to this realization, Smith comes up with the idea of a nation s gross domestic product,
which is an essential component of modern day economics. A nation s wealth isn t increased by
hoarding precious metals, but by expanding the market through production capacity, also simply
known as, increasing trade.
In the fifth and final book, Smith discusses what roles of government are appropriate

Summary Of Moving Away From Home By Jeannette Walls
As a child, the living conditions in which one is raised dictates their perception of normal.
Constantly moving from town to town was a thrilling experience in which Jeannette Walls
thrived, even with all the struggles that accompanied that lifestyle. With age comes the
awareness of one s surroundings, in which Walls discovered the way of life she considered
normal was in fact very abnormal. However, when she began to experience a normal life, she
discovered that though it was supposed to make her feel secure, she was not as happy. The
circumstances of her childhood provided a sense of joy, that the stability of what others considered
a normal happy existence could not provide to her.
Once placed in the town of Welch, things were on a constant downhill slope for the family. Along
with the move, the stagnancy of their new life was unsettling for the children. The joy and
excitement of moving and their friends made along the way disappeared and gave way to
loneliness and the clarity to see the true severity of their living conditions. Although, to escape the
unnatural living conditions, Maureen created a better life for herself away from home. By doing
this, she created her own happiness away from the cold unforgiving environment of her family s
house (Walls,173). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can begin to settle into situations that are not right for them, under the assumption that they
can make it better for themselves. My life with Eric was calm and predictable, stated Walls
(272). At the beginning of their relationship, the calmness Eric provided was what Walls had
convinced herself she desired. However, as their marriage disintegrated, she realized that she had
sacrificed true love and real happiness for that same security. As Walls said, ...I left Eric. He was a
good man, but not the right one for me. And Park Avenue was not where I belonged.

Citizen Kane Cinematic Techniques
Since its release in 1941, Orson Welles classic drama Citizen Kane has often been regarded as the
greatest film ever made. But why? Was it the acting? The cinematography? Did Welles just get
lucky with his first feature film? No matter what the reasoning, the evidence can be found
throughout the film s entirety. Perhaps what is most striking about Citizen Kaneis the films aesthetic
qualities: its cinematography and mise en scГЁne. From the film s opening, mise en scГЁne takes
precedence in every scene. Contrary to the popular chronological narrative, the film begins with the
death of its protagonist and continues in a series of flashbacks. The weary Charles Foster Kanelay
on his deathbed, clutching a snow globe when he utters his final word (ironically, the first word
spoken in the film), rosebud . As he dies, the snow globe bounces to the floor and shatters,
summoning his nurse, who initially appears in a reflection. This is merely one of many cinematic
devices employed by Welles in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film focuses on the life and death of newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kame a man who was
always making headlines, in both senses of the word. The obsession with this media mogul
carried over into his death as a group of newsmen gather in a projection room to preview a
newsreel about Kane s life. Even with the scant lighting of the projection booth, the viewer
really cannot make out the details of any of the men s faces; they are almost entirely blackened
out. Even outside of the projection room as the newsmen try to uncover the secret behind rosebud
, their faces are still obscured from the audience. This same effect is used on Kane himself as he
writes his personal declaration to the readers of his newly purchased Inquirer newspaper. This
dramatic lighting effect presents a feeling of anonymity among the news writers and even Kane.
The news is faceless, yet Kane himself becomes the face of

Ancient Rome, the Roman Colosseum
Ancient Rome, The Roman Colosseum
Historians have always used great structures from the ancient world to find out information about
the kind of lives they used to live. The Colosseum in Ancient Rome, Italy was one of the most
famous structures. The Colosseum in Rome gives historians a number of insights to the type of
civilization that existed during the time of the ancient empire, through the gory battles and violent
games that took place. This can be proven by the purpose of the Colosseum and the context
surrounding its construction, the political and economic benefit of the Colosseum to the empire,
the types of games which were held in the arena and the values which the structure suggests were
important to the civilization at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The construction of the Colosseum was a propaganda exercise with the aim of pleasing the citizens
which meant that the emperor kept himself in power. The emperors bought their popularity through
free entertainment and corn for the spectators which lead to the emperor buying the peoples votes
(Hopkins, 2011). The magnificent amphitheatre entertained the roman public becoming an
international emblem and propaganda tactic used by emperors to improve their political careers.
The economic benefit that the Colosseum had for Rome was enormous. The Colosseum provided
many jobs for the citizens of Rome; including work as ticket sellers, architects, merchants, slaves,
cleaners, curtain pullers, soldiers (crowd control), musicians, gladiators, animal trainers, sand
layers, engineers etc. (DeLasCasas, 2007). It also assisted the economy as it provided
opportunities for money to move around the different class levels as merchants sold many assets
at the games. Another way that money came into the Ancient Roman economy was through
gambling, people would win and lose fortunes at the games similar to the way people bet on
today s sporting events. According to DeLasCasas, 2007, when the Colosseum was closed in 399
AD the Roman economy suffered as it meant no jobs for a number of citizens, which lead to them
not being able to provide for their families and this lead to poverty. The Roman Colosseum had a
positive impact on the Ancient Roman economy giving

  • 2. Privacy, Surveillance, And Law Essay Introduction 1As technology changes the way we live, especially by making communication and transactions easier, the security of our personal information becomes an important issue if people are expected to trust the government, companies, and each other. Although scholars have provided several accounts of the importance of privacy, it still remains unclear how individuals view and value it. For the purposes of this essay, privacy is broadly defined as the controlled access to personal information or ideas. In this paper, I will examine Richard Posner s article Privacy, Surveillance, and Law and Neil Richards s paper The Dangers of Surveillance. Although both Posner and Richards begin with the same assumption that people fear public scrutiny, their different interpretations of this human nature lead to different conclusions. While Richards relates privacy to our fundamental rights so that he considers any surveillance dangerous, Posner s belief that we value privacy as a possession that promotes other ends is more justified because it allows individuals to weigh the costs and benefits of surveillance. People Fear Public Scrutiny 2Fundamentally, both Posner s and Richards s arguments stem from the assumption that people fear public scrutiny. Accordingly, Richards claims that public exposure pressures people into conformity. The prospect of drawing unwanted attention due to deviant behavior encourages people to change such behavior. This is an observation of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the twentieth century every human civilization was shaken not just by the aftermath of a worldwide war, but by a political rift without equal. This last concerns the best possible part and elements of government a subject of critical significance the welfare of all humankind. No other worldwide issue has ever created so profound and troublesome rupture in popular supposition at high cost to human life. The issue is, figuratively, regardless of whether an individual possesses himself and the rewards for his labor and mind or whether he is claimed by the collective and is born accordingly obligated. In other words, regardless of whether the collective or government should take the chief part in the exercises of the group and control with omnipotent powers the developments and welfare of the individuals, or whether it might stand separated from the battle, mediating upon its issues, ensuring reasonable equity to all, and safeguarding the tenets of fair play. That is to say, whether the administration should take upon itself the power and elements of the old fashioned slave proprietor, or should leave the society free to get themselves straightened out into entrepreneur and worker, while the collective government goes about as the judge, ready in the communal interest to exert physical and financial force against the individual. Saddam Hussein, the leader of Iraq was the main person involved in the start of the war. The war included many allied countries, they included a big part of the Middle East, Canada, United States and the United Kingdom and many more. After lasting 100 hours the war ended on February 28th, 1991 (The Gulf War,1991) The Desert Storm, which is also known as the Persian Gulf War and known as Operation Desert Storm, started at the end of the Cold War in 1990. The Desert Storm happened because Saddam Hussein, who was the leader of Iraq ordered invasion and occupation of the neighboring country of Kuwait, in August of 1990. Hussein was told by the United Nations Security Council to withdraw from Kuwait by the middle of January 1991, and Hussein disregarded their demands. Because he refused to withdraw the Persian Gulf War was triggered (Feinstein, 39). The Iraqi takeover posed a threat to Saudi Arabia, which was another oil supplying country for the United States. If Saudi Arabia took over by Hussein than he would have controlled one fifth of the world s oil supply. The Middle East had their eyes on the White House, waiting for a response from President George H. W. Bush. Both battles took place during the Napoleonic Wars. Through these two battles, one can see the distinct changes in warfare after 1792. In the two battles during the Napoleonic Wars , new strategy and tactics will be detailed of which describe the significant changes in naval warfare. This battle took place in 1805 and is largely considered to be one that decided the war at sea during the Napoleonic Wars. With Lord Nelson dying in the Battle of Trafalgar, Vice Admiral Collingwood provides a glimpse of what the British hoped to achieve in the battle: [T]he conflict was severe; the enemy s ships were fought with a gallantry highly honourable to their officers, but the attack on them was irresistible, and it pleased the Almighty Disposer of all Events, to grant his Majesty s arms a complete and glorious victory. The Battle of Trafalgar followed in the footsteps of The Glorious First of June in that they both had the end goal of achieving decisive victories that had the potential to change the course of the war. Collingwood not only gives a sense of nationalism comparable to Lord Howe, but he also conveys a sense of necessity or urgency to engage in conflict. An important nuance of total war stems from the need to constantly be in battle; to always want to engage an enemy and see the battle through to the bitter end. These arguments are further exemplified within Collingwood s final thoughts: I fear the numbers that have fallen will be found very great, when the returns come to me; but it having blown a gale of wind ever since the action. Even with fears of great numbers being sacrificed in battle, the Royal Navy continued to press forward. To the British, the number sacrificed meant little in comparison to the necessity and glory of defeating the French. Moreover, Nelson prepared the men for battle by saying: My Noble lads, this will be a glorious day for England, whoever lives to see it. I shan t be satisfied with twelve ships this day, as I took at the Nile. Nelson explicitly stated his desire for an even more decisive victory than in previous battles, showing a remarkable sense of dissatisfaction with mediocre results. • 9. Jewish And Christian Influence On Society God and humanity are separated so completely that a sin against humanity is really unthinkable: every deed is to be considered solely with respect to its supernatural consequences, without regard for its natural consequences; that is what Jewish feeling demands, for whatever is natural is considered ignoble. (pg. 188) When we think of sin we often think of God and the supernatural consequences from the sin. We then have the problem of separating and forgetting the impact the sin could have on humanity and in the natural world. The reason for this separation is from the Jewish and Christian influence on the world through religion. These influences view the natural things in humanity with a lowliness. Jewish and Christian thought has had an impact on society when dealing with morality and sin. They view sin as an act against God and that it will have consequences. They have the problem of separating the supernatural from humanity. There could also be the problem of forgetting the consequences or no consequences of the sin on humanity. Some might view certain actions as a sin but to the community these actions are not a serious crime with no actual consequences. I agree that God and humanity are separated and will continue to do so. I think that sin is becoming only of the supernatural and forgotten in humanity. Humanity and God are becoming more separated in what a sin is and the impact it has, but I also think that they should be joined together in that sin against God is ... If a witness testifies to their memory of an event, then how could they possibly get the details wrong? Research shows that a large portion of human memoryis actually reconstructive essentially, we unconsciously alter or attend to specific aspects of memory according to our emotions, expectations and prior knowledge (Howe Knott, 2015). • 13. Theme In O. Henry s The Gift Of The Magi Theme in The Gift of the Magi Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are the wisest. (Henry 108). This is one of the quotes from O. Henry s short story, The Gift of the Magi. The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is short about two adults making a sacrifice for one another. The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is about sacrificing something for someone else which is revealed by the author s irony, descriptive language, and dialogue. In this story, The Giftof the Magi, the author uses different situations throughout the story to show irony. For there lay the combs the set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped for long in a Broadway window. (108). In these words, the author is describing what Della had wanted for a very long time, but no longer has her long hair. This represents irony because Della sold her hair to buy the watch chain for Jim and now he no longer has the watch and Della is left with eighty one cents. The story also states, I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on. (108). Briefly, the author shows that Jim has given up his most valuable possession for someone he loved. This shows irony because now Della has no hair for the combs and Jim has no watch for his new watch chain. They are both left with two useless items. According to the author, the text also says, And here i have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. (108). In this quote, the author is directly stating how irony is used in the story. This is showing how the two people sacrificed something for each other but ended up both items being useless because they gave up the things the items were useful to. Given these points, the author uses irony to demonstrate problems throughout the story in different situations. During the story the author also uses descriptive language to show some of the events and main issues throughout the story. According to the text, Will you buy my hair? asked Della. This aim is important as it will help to uncover the psychological processes that inspire the various life circumstances of lower and upper class individuals. Studies have found that social class is measured by the indicators of material wealth, occupational prestige or educational achievement. Due to this signaling process, an individual may develop subjective perceptions of his or her rank in the social hierarchy. Additionally, research suggests lower class individuals life outcome is often times more dependent on external forces in the social context than upper class individuals. Furthermore, research noted empathic accuracy tends to increase with more interdependence and may be an important predictor of relationship results and social adjustment. The author asserts that research studies supporting these theoretic arguments are suggestive but limited as they have not addressed how class based perceptual tendencies may have pronounced effects on emotional processes. The current study was conducted in three different experiments. First, participants were tested on whether or not lower social class is related to an elevated empathic accuracy. In the second experiment, researchers tested whether or not social class predicts accuracy in judging emotions during interaction. In addition, researchers examined whether or not a more pronounced focus on the context explains the relationship between social class and empathic accuracy. Subsequently, researchers used SES of participants to measure social class. In the third experiment, researchers manipulated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Later on we skip through his entire experience when he returns to the war, seeing the period only in terms of the girl. Hemingway can move through time quickly in the story without losing the thread of the narrative. In the early parts of the play, these two men seem to work well together, however as the story progresses, the conspirators reveal their true colors which leads to their defeat. Although Brutus and Cassius lost the war and their lives in the original story, by having the two stick together and focus on what is important, they would pose an unstoppable force to the Romans thus saving both their lives. The first instance of Brutus and Cassius drift apart is in act four, scene two. The two revolutionaries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Introduction: Dresden The bombing of Dresden from February 13 to February 15, 1945 remains one of the most controversial bombings in World War II. Located in eastern Germany, Dresden was targeted by Allied bombers during the final months World War II in the European theatre. The justification of the bombing remains controversial because the city was neither a political center nor an industrial center contributing to the Nazi war effort. This applies to independent contractors that serve as drivers for those companies. These drivers supply their own trucks and insurance, they only do a delivery service and make out the orders. The drivers are not responsible for the losses on bread not sold. They are given a percentage on bread sold. They file their own personal taxes and are not liable for any company assets or liabilities. Women were further marginalized in society when the fifteenth amendment extended suffrage to black men and excluded women. After the fifteenth amendment, the national African women s suffrage association replaced the American equal rights association, and asserted that women could increase the educated voting population and reduce the influence of the ignorant populace, (Stern Axinn, 2012, p.101). The number of women that were a part of this association was small mainly because it was frowned upon, society found it to be a call for political power and women who demanded it were suspect. The government and society at this time still favored the Christian outlook and stated that a woman s nature is to attend home duties and men to do outside work, not only does the law of the creator say this but men s physical ability to do outside work also solidified this view (Stern Axinn,2012, p.103). Principles And Elements Of The Four-Armed Ganesha The Four Armed Ganesha, an Indian terra cotta relief plaque, created during the Gupta period between the 4th and 7th century A.D, depicts the potbellied, four armed deity Ganesha, the remover of obstacles in Hindu mythology. The 49.1 x 67.9 x 20.6 cm representational relief plaque, conceived during India s classical age of sculpture, was discovered in the state of Uttar Pradesh, located in the northern part of India. In this paper, I intend to interpret the formal principles and elements of Four Armed Ganeshaand confabulate my experience of perceiving this artwork. The relief sculpture, a phenomenal archetype of ceramic art, produced purely through the usage of a human s most basic machinery, fingers and thumbs, and through the most elemental material wet earth, has a porous, coarse and rugged texture. The sculpture is an example of a high relief, which is found throughout Hindu artworks, although not as frequently as mid reliefs/ mezzo rilievo. The use of single material throughout the artwork and the singular color adds unity to the artwork. Although the artwork is not symmetrical it seems that the artwork would have looked solid, settled and balanced if it had not endured damage over time. Paul began his first missionary in the town of Antioch. Throughout Paul s first missionary journey he was accompanied by Barnabas and Barnabas cousin John Mark. God gave Paul a mission to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles. They traveled from city to city spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, the message was not always being received. It is really no confirmed certainty on why John Mark eventually left Paul and Barnabas to return to Jerusalem. The Jews went on record as being in opposition to the Gospel, but Paul kept preaching the Gospel to the Gentiles. Paul saw that the Gentiles were very receptive to the Gospel. There were some Jews that came and stirred up the crowd at Lystra against Paul and Barnabas. Studies have shown that Japanese economy suffers of severe problems that are not only cyclical but also structural in nature. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1970s 1980s, total fertility rate in Japan fell below replacement levels, resulting in young labor shortage. Of the sharp slowdown in real GDP growth since the early 1990s, half is contributed by a drop in labor input. Between 1983 1991 and 1991 1998, the Japan Industrial Productivity (JIP) Database reports that Japan s real GDP declines 2.69 percentage points. In Toni Morrison s novel Beloved, memory is a dangerous and debilitating faculty of human consciousness. Sethe endures the tyranny of the self imposed prison of memory. She expresses an insatiable obsession with her memories, with the past. Sethe is compelled to explore and explain an overwhelming sense of yearning, longing, thirst for something beyond herself, her daughter, her Beloved. Though Beloved becomes a physical manifestation of these memories, her will is essentially defined by and tied to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memories, however, persist. They remain, lurking in places like 124 and Sweet Home to remind Sethe that the punishment she suffers is self inflicted and self perpetuating. First as a poltergeist and later as a mysterious young woman, the memory of Beloved remains unrequited. Beloved s appetite is insatiable. She never got enough of anything... the more she took, the more Sethe began to talk, explain.. (240 1). No effort, no amount, no explanation is adequate. Sethe gives her face to Beloved and still she demands more. Beloved eventually becomes bloated with Sethe s loving excesses, but her thirst remains unquenched. Paul D. understands the dangers inherent in this kind of love when he warns Sethe, Your love is too thick (164). Beloved has no distinct identity separate from Sethe. Without Sethe, Beloved is ultimately left crouching in a dark, dark place, forgetting to smile (252). Likewise, Sethe s own identity is nearly lost or completely surrendered in her fusion with Beloved. Though short of ultimate union or reunion with Beloved in death, Sethe is unable and unwilling to challenge Beloved s place in her mind and in her home. Only help from others can save her. • 40. Humility Order And Temperance Definition What do the virtues humility, order, and temperance mean in your life? These along with 10 other virtues were very important in one of America s most preeminent inventor s career. This man was Benjamin Franklin. His goal was to live a morally perfect life. With all of the achievements and successes that occurred in Ben s life, this made me wonder if following these virtues could lead me to any greatness. Nevertheless, I tried to achieve moral perfectionfor three days. During the three days that I followed the virtues of humility, order, and temperance, I faced many struggles and reached many mini victories. On Thursday, October 6th, I began my mission to become morally correct by practicing the virtueof humility. On this day, I decided to practice the virtue of temperance. I tried to go throughout the day eating only three meals. Considering I am a big fan of food, I made many mistakes. I started off my day fairly well with a well balanced breakfast. Around 10am, my sister came over with a batch of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. This is when my errors began. I ate an insanely large amount of cookies. At lunch, I stayed pretty healthy by eating an salad with a peanut butter and jelly. Sadly, around 3pm I decided that I absolutely needed to eat fruit. At least I made a healthy choice at that point. But only two hours later my healthy choice was completely reversed when I found my way back to the batch of chocolate chip cookies. I didn t eat anything else until dinner. I eat grilled chicken and mashed potatoes. At this point all I wanted was chocolate ice cream and I decided that I had already made enough mistakes that day. Before going to bed that night, I did not feel happy with myself because of the many mistakes that I made that day. Moral perfection is very hard to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Consequences Of Winning The Lottery Imagine winning the lottery right now, smiling while holding a big check for five hundred million dollars. Now imagine all of the things you could do with that money like buy a giraffe or a lamborghini. You could even open up an orphanage for kids. Now think of all the bad that could come out like becoming broke from lack of responsibility (financially) or losing all of your friends. When people win the lottery, people like to focus on the positive elements, but no one chooses to look at the negative elements. Although there are many risks involved in winning the lottery, I would still love to win. Because I would have many more opportunities,I could help many people in need, and I would have the freedom to do whatever I please. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Tupac Shakur once said I m not saying I m gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world (brainyquotes). With winning the lottery, I could open good schools in communities where the schooling is either poor or it s not free. I could give clean water to people in places where they don t have water. I could give food and shelter to those who don t have it. A couple weeks ago, my family and I went on a trip to Dallas,Texas for a family reunion and we stopped on this bridge and there was a homeless man standing with a sign. I saw the man and I gave him $20 which was all the money in my purse because I felt that the man needed it more than me. I realize that going to Clayton instead of some poor city school and living in middle class America and having both my parents in my life that I have it better than many of people, not only in Saint Louis, but in the world. I could be going to work everyday as a 15 year old rather than school, living in some small house. The fact that 1 in 6 americans struggles to get enough to eat alone is enough to make me want to give back. More specifically stomach and breast cancers, because those are the cancers that affect me and my family the most. So I think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Adam Smith The Wealth Of Nations In the novel, The Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith attempts to construct a new, fresh understanding of what economics is. Smith was not content with the mercantilist system that existed at the time of writing the novel (1776), however, he gives a very convoluted but creative and unique account of an economic system found in the simple nature of mankind. The text is defined through the use of fact heavy segways, tables and graphs, and Smith s personal research, establishing his pledge to give evidence for what seem like timeless observations about the nature of economics. Books one and two mainly focus on the evolution of the division of labor idea and describing how this division adds to the wealth of a society by creating a surplus that can be divided among ... Book three discusses Great Britain s social evolution, which begins, according to Smith, with hunting and gathering societies and progresses through agricultural stages to ultimately arrive at a state of international commerce. Smith claims that the fall of Rome and the beginning of feudalism impeded progression by creating lower efficiency. LaPenotiere 2 Book four criticizes mercantile commerce that characterized Europe during Smith s time of writing the novel. Smith s main criticism of mercantilism is that it directly related precious metals with value and wealth. Smith claims that, the real measure of the wealth of a nation is the amount of goods and services that the nation creates, which, in today s society, is very true. Coming to this realization, Smith comes up with the idea of a nation s gross domestic product, which is an essential component of modern day economics. A nation s wealth isn t increased by

  • 47. Citizen Kane Cinematic Techniques Since its release in 1941, Orson Welles classic drama Citizen Kane has often been regarded as the greatest film ever made. But why? Was it the acting? The cinematography? Did Welles just get lucky with his first feature film? No matter what the reasoning, the evidence can be found throughout the film s entirety. Perhaps what is most striking about Citizen Kaneis the films aesthetic qualities: its cinematography and mise en scГЁne. From the film s opening, mise en scГЁne takes precedence in every scene. Contrary to the popular chronological narrative, the film begins with the death of its protagonist and continues in a series of flashbacks. The weary Charles Foster Kanelay on his deathbed, clutching a snow globe when he utters his final word (ironically, the first word spoken in the film), rosebud . Even with the scant lighting of the projection booth, the viewer really cannot make out the details of any of the men s faces; they are almost entirely blackened out. Even outside of the projection room as the newsmen try to uncover the secret behind rosebud , their faces are still obscured from the audience. The emperors bought their popularity through free entertainment and corn for the spectators which lead to the emperor buying the peoples votes (Hopkins, 2011). The magnificent amphitheatre entertained the roman public becoming an international emblem and propaganda tactic used by emperors to improve their political careers. The economic benefit that the Colosseum had for Rome was enormous. The Colosseum provided many jobs for the citizens of Rome; including work as ticket sellers, architects, merchants, slaves, cleaners, curtain pullers, soldiers (crowd control), musicians, gladiators, animal trainers, sand layers, engineers etc. (DeLasCasas, 2007). It also assisted the economy as it provided opportunities for money to move around the different class levels as merchants sold many assets at the games. Another way that money came into the Ancient Roman economy was through gambling, people would win and lose fortunes at the games similar to the way people bet on today s sporting events. According to DeLasCasas, 2007, when the Colosseum was closed in 399 AD the Roman economy suffered as it meant no jobs for a number of citizens, which lead to them not being able to provide for their families and this lead to poverty.
