50. • A Paris-trained German architect, François de
Cuvilliers, is almost singlehandedly responsible
for the spread of the Rococo style to Bavaria
and thence to the rest of Germany and Austria,
where is was used in residences and churches
alike. One of the finest examples of his work is
the Amalienburg, a pavilion for Royal relaxation
at Nymphenburg Park outside Munich. The
Mirror Room is a fantasy of silver leafed stucco
on a blue background, depicting fruit, flowers,
vines and birds, intermingled with classical
figures.
