Snowy day in Mayerling
Heiligenkreuz Abbey (Stift
Heiligenkreuz, Closter Heiligen
    Creyz or Santa Crux) is
 a Cisterian monastery in the
village of Heiligenkreuz in the
 southern part of the Vienna
Woods, eight miles north-west
  of Baden in Lower Austria.
Our first excursion ended at Relics from Disney’s movie
Seegrotte located about 17KM The Three Musketeers shot
from Central Vienna. It was a down in Seegrotte.
   gypsum mine built on 3 levels;
grey and red gypsum were mined
     here for use as agricultural
     fertilizer from 1848 to 1912.

In 1912, over 20 mil. liters flooded the lowest level and the mine was closed. It was
reopened in 1932 as a display mine for tourists. We could see rooms that once served the
miners as a chapel, common room and wine cellar, where they used to celebrate. There
are even stables for working horses which had to spend all their life in the dark.
On our 2nd day we took
a long walk along the
Vienna Ring Boulevard
which is 4 KM long and
circles the city centre.
The Natural History Museum in Vienna is the counterpart of the
Kunsthistorisches Museum, which lies directly opposite. It was
designed, like the latter, by G. Semper and K. Hasenauer and was
completed in 1881. The exhibits are displayed in 39 galleries and a
domed hall, and now form one of the major European natural
                        history collections.
This oldest German university at the Dr.Karl -
Lueger - Ring was founded 1365 by duke Rudolf IV.
Constructed 1873-1883 by Heinrich von Ferstel in
the Renaissance-styile. In the large court there is
the Kastaliabrunnen by E.Hellmer, 1910. The
building complex contains also 8 small courts.

The Burgtheater, originally known as K.K. Theater an der Burg,
then until 1920 as theK.K. Hofburgtheater, is the Austrian
National Theatre in Vienna and one of the most
important German language theatres in the world.
