Researching genre tom
- 1. Genre: The theme a magazine is categorized into based on certain characteristics that it has in common with other magazines in the same category.
- 2. The genre I have chosen to do my magazine In the style of is Rock/Alternative. I have chosen this genre because I am familiar with this style of music due to the fact that I listen to that style of music regularly. I therefore know a lot about this type of music so I think I will be able to make an effective magazine in this genre.
- 3. Rock/Alternative magazines often use colours red, black, white and yellow. This allows the audience to be able to recognise the fact that it is rock/alternative as the colours connote danger and mystery which fits in with the genre rock/alternative. By using these colours it is reinforcing the genre of the magazine.
- 4. Rock/Alternative magazines also have models on the front cover which are usually the frontman of rock/alternative bands. They are dressed in typical band outfits such as denim and leather jackets. These are what readers would expect rock/alternative bands to wear therefore it is easy for them to see that this is a rock/alternative magazine.
- 5. Rock/Alternative magazines, like all other magazines, have headlines on the front page. However on Rock/Alternative covers, the headline usually includes the featured bands Name. This draws in the target market as they will be familiar with the bands name and therefore will be more inclined to buy the magazine.
- 6. From my research I have learned that common codes and conventions of the Rock/Alternative genre are leather and denim jackets for costume, popular band names in the headlines and the common use of the colours black, red and yellow. I will use these codes and conventions when making my own magazine to make sure that my magazine will be recognisable to the rock/alternative genre.
