4. Rock Magazines
Forms and Conventions:
• Banner displays contents of the magazine
• Main image displays subject in an
edgy/anarchist way to appeal to audience
• Dark colour scheme used, connotes death,
violence, anarchy
• Pull quotes are used to engage the reader.
• Cluttered use of multiple images to appeal to
the widest audience possible.
• Main subject in dark clothing with miserable
expression

5. Chosen Genre
For my own coursework piece, I have decided to pick Pop/Indie as my
chosen genre as I believe people who may want to be the subject of the
cover who I have access to give off this aesthetic and will compliment my
cover nicely, for example female friends will work nicely for a Pop
magazine as the industry is female biased.
In addition to this, Pop/Indie magazines usually place most emphasis on
the subject of the magazine, therefore intricate props and locations will
not be necessary for the cover, and a plain background would suffice.
