Genetically Engineered Crops Essays
Genetically Engineered Crops
Chemical and seed companies have been working the last several years to alter the genetic make up of
certain crops to combat heavy pressure from insects and weeds. Through genetic manipulation plant
breeders have been able to make certain crops resistant to different types of chemicals and insects.
Breeders can alter the crops by adding to a specific plant one or more genes from other related crops
with a known resistance to an insect or herbicide The use of genetically engineered crops has become
a hotly debated topic over the last couple of years. Environmentalists are concerned with how these
new crops will affect the environment. Farmers want to know how these crops will help them to
increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roundup works by inhibiting enzymes essential to plant growth. By increasing the enzymes produced
in plants, the plant is unaffected by the herbicide (Monsanto Crossroads). With the insertion of the
Roundup resistant and Bt genes, the negative environmental impacts from agriculture can be reduced.
One way environmental damage can be reduced is by decreasing pesticide use. According to
Monsanto, Bollgard cotton, a variety resistant to bollworms, was used in 13% of the total cotton crop
in 1996. Sixty percent of those growers used no insecticide, most others only used one application.
This is compared to an average of 4 to 6 applications. The reduced applications saved a quarter million
gallons of insecticide. Monsanto has also developed potatoes with resistance to the Colorado potato
beetle. Farmers using this new variety reported eliminating 1 5 insecticide applications. The total
reduction in applications of insecticides was between 33% 42% over conventional methods (Biotech
Benefits).
By inserting the Bt gene into the plant cell, only the insects that are damaging the crop are killed.
Conversely, when the Bt gene is used in a pesticide spray many more insects that may have been
beneficial to the crop are killed (ESA Position Statement). By having insect resistance built in, farmers
can eliminate costly trips across the field needed to spray insecticides. Much like Bt corn,

Types Of Fogs And The Foggiest Places
Types of Fogs and the Foggiest places in U.S. Fog, like any cloud, usually forms in one of two ways:
(1) by cooling air is cooled below its saturation point (dew point); and (2) by evaporation and mixing
water vapor is added to the air by evaporation, and mixing water vapor is added to the air by
evaporation, and the moist air mixes with relatively dry air. (Ahrens Samson, 2011, p. 97)
Radiation Fog, (ground fog) Occurs when the radiational air temperature is below its dew point over
land. The best conditions are when dry air overlay s a thin layer of humid air during a clear night.
These conditions allow for cooling of the ground to happen fast due to the thin layer, humid layer does
not take in much earth s departing infrared radiations.
Advection fog, conditions call for hot and humid air to blow over a cool surface, since the surface
cools the air. The dew point temperature has to be cool enough as the air temperature which causes
condensation to form and creates a dense fog to form. As the warm air cools, the temperature will
reach the dew point temperature, forcing the water vapor to condense into a cloud. (Masters, 2016)
Upslope fog, this type of fog may occur on mountain tops when cold air blows up a slope known as,
orographic uplift. The air condenses since it builds up moisture as the cold rises. Evaporation (mixing)
fog, this type of fog forms when two unsaturated masses of air are combined.
Some of the foggiest places that we can see these events

Lev Vygotsky s Social Development Theory And Zone Of...
Each classroom is composed of a unique and diverse group of learners that have different abilities in
the way they learn. Models of learning and various theoretical frameworks provide a blueprint to help
teachers understand different theories across disciplines. Knowledge is everywhere and providing
children with the proper tools on how to learn is essential in education. I believe that if I create a
learning environment that allows children to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically
it will allow students a path to help meet their full potential as an individual. A few of the theoretical
frameworks and theorists I have found most useful in my teaching experience and that have helped me
developed my philosophy include Lev Vygotsky, John Dewey and Howard Gardner. To better develop
students literacy knowledge and improve their usage of academic language, I will utilize Lev
Vygotsky s Social Development Theory and Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) to support the
instructional design in my lessons in the classroom. Vygotsky s ZPD suggests that children benefit
from having addition support or scaffolding from a More Knowledgeable Other (MKO). According to
Vygotsky the teacher s role of providing support and guidance will allow the student to achieve with
assistance that he or she might not have reached independently. According to the Encyclopedia of
Cognitive Science it states, Vygotsky argued that educative environments must utilize the ZPD,

According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments
of the Muslim population. , says Donald Trump. I would have to agree with Trump s quote on
stopping Muslims from coming into our country because if we stop the Muslims from entering the
country we should be able to control some of the terrorist threats and attacks that have occurred.
Another quote of Trump s that I agree with is, In the Middle East, we have people chopping the heads
off Christians, we have people chopping the heads off many other people. We have things that we
have never seen before as a group, we have never seen before, what s happening right now. The
medieval times I mean, we studied medieval times not since medieval times have people seen what s
going on. I would bring back waterboarding and I d bring back a hell of a lot worse than
waterboarding. , stated Trump in a Republican Presidential debate. The reason I agree with Trump on
this topic is because if they want information from us and just keep capturing our people and killing
them than we should be able to send in some of our armed forces and capture some of the Middle
Easterners doing same and try to get information from them, and if they don t want to talk to us torture
is a good option because you can get the information without killing

Principles And Methods Of Ergonomics
INTRODUCTION
Ergonomic means the understanding of the interactions among humans and other elements of a
system. This is achieved by applying theoretical principles, data and methods to design so that we can
optimise human well being and thus improving overall system performance. Ergonomists helps in
planning, designing and evaluation of tasks, jobs and products in industries. These also include
environments and systems in order to make viable to the needs, abilities and limitations of peoples.
The term Ergonomics means Greek ergo that is work and nomos means laws to denote the science of

According to International Ergonomics Association (IEA); Ergonomics is the scientific discipline
concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and
the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human
well being and overall system performance(2). In countries like India where there are many industries,
they play a vital role in employing majority of industrial workers. The majority of the industrial
workers are suffering from musculoskeletal disorder(5) that are work related specially upper extremity
work related musculoskeletal disorders (UE WMSDs) are the most common form of occupational
diseases. Hence to consider this factor, operator needs proper seating arrangement such that their
problems regarding the MSDs can be reduced productivity will be increased (3). This is dealt by
ergonomics that deals with making the work place safe, comfortable, efficient, and harmless as
possible. This is achieved by proper balance between worker characteristics and task demands. In any
work setting it is important to produce high quality products and it s been a main objective also.
Labour is directly related to the productivity. Their ability, skills, productivity and performance have a
great importance towards the increased production (4). Hence proper ergonomics enhance worker
productivity, provide worker safety, physical and mental well being and job

The Importance of Political Candidates Religion in American Politics
Religion and Politics have played a loud and at some times discordant counterpoint in the United
States for many years. There has always been a correlation between conservative politics and
fundamentalist religion in American History. As American s we ve always had had the constitutional
right to chose our religion. Yet our country s leaders, that sit in the highest political seats have
traditionally been evangelistic Protestants. Which have dominated religion in politics during the final

Whether or not religion will continue to be a constructive voice in politics in the decades a head is an
open question. Scientific materialism has made it more difficult for religious believer to effectively
join the public debate: and the dramatic secularization of public life in recent years has added new
barriers to mixing faith in politics. Even so, the United States remains one of the most religious
nations in the industrialized world, and it would be foolish to discount the inherent power of religious
idealism for animating social and political reform.
Many changes have come forth since the days of the founders of the country. Many positive
controversial events have marked the nation with positive march to change in the voter s opinon of
presidential vice presidential candidates.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy in 1960, when he won the Democratic Party s presidential nomination for

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Children With...
Children today are affected by a number of developmental and behavioral disorders. One that has
become very common over the years is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. This
disorder is diagnosed to individuals who cannot focus well and have apparent restless behavior. Those
who are diagnosed with this disorder seem to be young or adolescent, and the numbers are continuing
to increase. Due to the increase in numbers, many alarmed parents are quick to jump to giving their
kids medication. This method is quite controversial and has some advantages and disadvantages to it.
Some believe that today s physicians will over diagnose children with ADHD, leading to normal kids
receiving unneeded prescriptions of powerful stimulants. However, there is still a large need of
medication for children who are truly suffering from this mental disorder. When one is properly
diagnosed with ADHD, there are many advantages to treating with medication. ADHD was first
discussed in 1902 by British pediatrician Sir George Still. He described it as an abnormal defect of
moral control in children. He discovered that the children with ADHD had a harder time controlling
their behaviors when compared to typical children, but this didn t make them unintelligent. Also in
1902, Sir George Still published some lectures to the Royal College of Physicians in England where
he talked about a group of children with what appeared to be behavioral problems. This was caused by
a genetic dysfunction

Contagious Nature Of Kind Acts
During the second week of the new year, Mrs. Thompson s language arts classes conducted an
experiment in order to demonstrate the contagious nature of kind acts. To accomplish this, they
received slips of paper from Mrs. Thompson that could be transferred to recipients of kind acts to be
redistributed. This produced a continuous cycle of kind acts that is still in effect, which provides the
world with an example of the contagious behavior of acts of kindness. Be kind whenever possible. It is
always possible. These are the words of the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, a man who dedicated
his life to obtaining equality for the people of Tibet. Although impossible to impact the world in a
manner identical to that of the Dalai Lama, we possess the capability to alter it, nevertheless, by
performing seemingly insignificant acts of kindness. Completing tasks that may comprise of merely
retrieving a fellow student s fallen pencil can have profound effects on society, for these acts tend to
spread in a similar vein to contagions. Therefore, a single act of kindness may develop into thousands
of kind actions, which can form a superior town, city, country, and world. While not uncommon,
random acts of kindness do not occur as frequently as devastating events, so they tend to appear rarely
in the media. The Huffington Post, however, compiles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Seven Myths Of The Spanish Conquest
For decades, the history of Latin America has been shrouded in a cover of Spanish glory and myth that
misleads and complicates the views of historians everywhere. Myths such as the relationship between
natives and conquistadors, and the individuality of the conquistadors themselves stand as only a few
examples of how this history may have become broken and distorted. However, in Seven Myths of the
Spanish Conquest Matthew Restall goes to great lengths to dispel these myths and provide a more
accurate history of Latin American, in a readable and enjoyable book. Restall s ultimate goal in
writing this book is to provide readers and scholars alike with a more realistic viewpoint and history of
the Spanish conquest. He wishes to dispel the many myths that accompany the epic tale so as to
provide a better understanding of who the natives were and, more importantly to Restall, who the
Spanish were. He does an excellent job of questioning the who, what, and where of the personalities
and motives of the men involved in conquest. These questions are heartily answered in a well written
and easy to read history book. Restall answers his own questions present in the introduction by
focusing each chapter on a different myth. Chapter one discusses that the men who partook in
conquest were valiant, rich, and outstanding. This idea gives credit to both the Spanish interpretation
and the beautifully rugged men cast in Hollywood adaptations. The author notes, additionally, that the

All About France
France is located in the northern hemisphere around 46° N and 2° E in Western Europe. As shown in
the political map of Europe in Figure 1 above, France is bordered by the Bay of Biscay to the west, the
English Channel to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south as well as the countries of Spain,
Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium.
France is the largest country in Western Europe with a total land area of around 213,010 square miles
(551,695 square kilometers). Two thirds of the country is made up of fertile plains with about half of
the land under cultivation.
The physical map in Figure 2 shows that France s major mountain ranges are mostly in the south,
including the Alps, Pyrenees, and Massif Central. Its major rivers are the Seine, Rhine, and Rhône.
About a quarter of the land area is covered in forests which is a valuable environmental resource.
Cities and Regions of France
France is made up of 27 administrative regions but 5 of these are overseas territories. This leaves 22
regions in mainland France as shown in the map in Figure 3.
Each region has its own regional council, with elected members and local administration. They have

Enter Three Witches Chapter Summary
Enter Three Witches is a gripping retelling of Shakespeare s classic Macbeth. Written by Caroline
Cooney, the novel follows Lady Mary as she experiences the tyranny of Lady Macbeth, and the
struggles of trying to save the lives of anyone she can. Many comparisons can be drawn to the
original, however many differences are prevalent. Although suspenseful and action packed, Enter
Three Witches struggles with keeping characters straight and starts off very slow. Cooney takes the
reader on a sporadic point of view hopping adventure throughout the world of Mr. and Mrs. Macbeth.
Following Lady Mary, Seyton, Fleance, and the maids, we get an individual perspective of the events
of Macbeth. It soon becomes very difficult to determine what events are being referred to, and
extremely difficult due to the time frames being covered. The story covers many characters and
relations, and gives an inside look at day to day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story begins to feel like slow motion as they are introduced in a long exposition covering the vast
amount of people. We are repeatedly told how Lady Mary is afraid, and how she is struggling to
escape the harsh realities of life with Lady Macbeth. She is always discussing her love life, something
readers may find a bore. Although there is an early battle revealed in the novel, the drawn out
expositions overshadow the suspense of Enter Three Witches. The novel also focuses too much on the
role the witches play. In the original Macbeth, the battle of ambition versus prophecy is shown in the
likes of Macbeth. Macbeth decidedly acts on his own accord, and his greed turns him into a mad man.
It is shown countless times throughout the original that ambition trumps prophecy. In Enter Three
Witches, the Witch s prophecy is the law of the land. They cannot be trusted, and will give false
prophecy. They control the destiny of each character, and they are feared by everyone in the

Advertising Persuasive Paper
The reality of advertising is right under our noses and in front of our eyes. Wherever we are or
whatever we are doing, the fact is we are likely to be surrounded and influenced by advertisements.
Shakespeare advertised his plays, of course, but not in the commercial sense we know today. For more
than a hundred years, though, commercial advertisements for products and services have been vying
for the attention of the consumer. Those businesses found that the bigger and bolder the claims they
made, the more people bought their products and chose them over the competition.
The fiercely competitive businesses of advertising and marketing were born. Today those businesses
alone are worth billions and even trillions of dollars. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We yearn for the car that will make us more macho, or the watch that will exude professionalism and
taste. We will buy anything, it seems, to make us suave and sophisticated and the envy of all our
friends. It s worth realising that they are very shallow friends indeed if they judge you by what you
own rather than on your personality. Do you really need friends like that?
We are being manipulated, on every street corner and every moment of the day and it s going to get
worse. Internet advertising, once only a fraction of all advertising is set to become the biggest business
in the world. This won t just apply to pop ups or banners, it will apply to personal advertising aimed
and directed at you personally. It will be based on the mathematic boffins who are now employed by
the marketers. They are, at present, working out your spending patterns and studying your lifestyle
habits based on your search engine enquiries and surfing habits. You can expect to be subjected to
nearly one thousand online marketing messages each day and every one will be set to appeal to you
personally.
The fact that our lives are saturated by advertising seems to worry only a few people. The rest of us
just shrug and think that is how it is supposed to be. Yet whatever and however you feel about it,
advertising is impossible to avoid. Marketing companies in response to so called ‘ad clutter or ‘ad
fatigue set about finding

Justifying Evil for Good is Cruel
There are many forms of cruelty. One form that many can relate to is bullying. Whether having been
bullied or been the one bullying others, those cruel memories can forever be imprinted on one s heart.
In White Lies, Erin Murphy, expresses that although bullying is wrong, trying to justify bad deeds for
good is equally cruel. Using rhetorical and tonal elements, Murphy stirs emotions with pathos,
perhapsing with logos, and vivid images with diction.
Murphy expresses how justifying bad deeds for good is cruel by first stirring the reader s emotions on
the topic of bullying with pathos. In White Lies, Murphy shares a childhood memory that takes the

in the back of the room. As far as I know, she never intervened (Murphy 382). A disheartening picture
because kids may be kids, but a grown adult should be able to distinguish between right and wrong.
Allowing the bullying to take place meant she condoned their behavior to be acceptable. Also, as a
teacher, she had the power to influence the students and teach them that any form of cruelty is wrong.
Using perhapsing from a first person point of view, Murphy states that trying to justify bad deeds for
good is cruel. Describing an image of Connie and her mother at the 7 Eleven, Murphy is showing that
Connie told a white lie about her father s job: All this changed in mid October when Connie s father
got a job at a candy factory, news Connie announced tentatively one rainy day... this makes the reader
consider if Connie was doing a bad deed by telling a lie for good (382). Also, Murphy makes one
question Connie s mother because even though she was trying to help Connie, condoning a lie teaches
Connie that justifying a bad deed for one s own good is acceptable Her mother was filling a cardboard
box (with candy) (383). Murphy s article makes one wonder if there is a middle ground for right and
wrong, but there is not and trying to justify wrong for good is cruel.
Murphy explains how justifying bad deeds for good is wrong by painting vivid images of her
characters and brings them to life with choice words. Murphy describes Arpi s accent and uses
metaphoric words

Essay On Coast Guard
The Extreme Reserve Commute
The extreme commute imposed on reservists is detrimental to both the member and the unit. Upon
first entering into the Coast Guard Reserves, members are placed at units that are within a reasonable
commuting distance. By working and drilling close to their homes, reservists are able to easily
commute and actively participate in reserve drills and activities while still maintaining their busy
schedules in their personal lives. When the Coast Guard imposes a mandatory Permanent Change of
Station of members when they advance, most times to locations outside of their reasonable commuting
distance, and at the members financial expense, it creates unnecessary impacts for both the member
and the Coast Guard. As reserve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causes many members to choose to either not want to advance or to unwillingly choose to be
placed in the IRR rather than accept orders. This is a great loss to both the Coast Guard and the
member. If members choose to depart, the Coast Guard now loses a valued member with training,
experience and subject matter expertise.
The Coast Guard has invested many hours of training and money in each Reserve member to try to
ensure that members are educated and capable of augmenting the Active component of the Coast
Guard and respond to emergencies as needed. The main purpose of the Coast Guard Reservists is to
train to deploy. It would be time and cost effective to be able to do that close to the members home.
The Coast Guard would benefit by retaining members at their current duty location instead of
transferring them upon advancing. At the Unit level, there would be a continuation of operations, for
the overall Coast Guard, the training and the money invested in preparing the member would not be
wasted. Members would be would be happier and continue to serve and be a productive member in the

Hawaiian Missionaries
The first missionaries arrived to the Hawaiian Islands in 1820 and made a lot of changes to Hawaii
when they arrived, both good and bad. When the missionaries arrived to the islands they thought of
the natives as savages. They all needed to become converts to followers of Christ, drop their own
beliefs and pick up new ones. They also sought out to civilize the natives, by teaching them how to
read and write, sing and Christianize them. Hiram Bingham and Asa Thurston were the first of many
missionaries to arrive in Hawaii. The Queen at the time, Kaahumanu accepted the arrival of the
missionaries from New England to teach their religion. Although there were many positive affects of

Asa Thurston stayed with Liholiho, and Bingham led the others to Honolulu and arrived there on April

Bingham had a hard time setting up mission schools and drawing the islanders in for them to learn. A
lot of the Hawaiians were interested in what was going on, but never really stayed around, they did not
like the clothes and learning to read and they thought writing was just to hard, but they were still able
to teach a good number of them. There were also many things the Hawaiians did that the missionaries
thought were a disgraceful. They viewed hula as sinful and too provocative, and they were not
overjoyed with polygamy and incest, marrying into their same bloodline happening everywhere. It
was going to be a huge job for these missionaries to change this place around. They did what they
could and it would make a huge impact on Hawaii eventually. The missionaries developed a
successful alphabet for Hawaiian by 1826, taught Hawaiians to read and write the language, published
various educational books in Hawaiian, and eventually finished translating the Bible.
Soon after the first Protestant missionaries arrived in Hawaii in 1820, Kaahumanu embraced the
missionaries teaching, and Christianity. Kaahumanu was born in 1768 she married Kamehameha.
When he died he passed down the crown to his son Liholiho. But Kaahumanu and Liholiho ruled as
equal because Kamahameha thought his son lacked leadership ability. So

Rhetorical Analysis Of Assata Shakur s To My People
In To My People , a speech by Assata Shakur, a former member of the Black Liberation Army,
explains her frustrations and disappointments on how African Americans were treated and more
importantly how she was treated by white authorities in the US. Her story is that she was stopped on
the turnpike because of a traffic violation in 1973 in New Jersey by Trooper Foerster. During this
traffic stop, Shakur was accused of shooting and killing Trooper Foerster with his own gun. Shakur
was soon convicted of first degree murder and quickly fled to Cuba. While in Cuba, she wrote and
delivered a speech targeted towards her brothers and sisters about how unfair African Americans had
been treated in the United States. Assata Shakur in this speech utilized a variety of rhetorical devices
to emphasize her frustrations with the accusations by the hypocritical US authorities. Shakur believe
that the United States government was extremely fraud given how the government treated African
Americans. Assata makes an attempt to deliberate her discontent. The author uses parallel structure to
correlate and emphasize how the system was hypocritical throughout history. She claims how
untrustworthy they are, constantly destroying the system. By using the words they called us... , the
government continued to condemn African Americans which created a negative image of black people
overall. By using this rhetorical method, it helps you comprehend the structure of the speech and it

External factors influence a firm s choice of direction and action and, ultimately, its organizational
structure and internal processes. These factors, which constitute the external environment, can be
divided into three interrelated subcategories: factors in the remote environment, factors in the industry
environment, and factors in the operating environment... In combination, these factors form the basis
of the opportunities and threats that a firm faces in its competitive environment, (Pearce Robinson,
2004, p. 78). To create an experience unlike its competitors, Starbucks must constantly evaluate all

How Does Climate Change Affect Agriculture
Will Climate Change Affect Agriculture?
Climate change otherwise known as global warming has been an ongoing issue for decades.
Beginning in the 19th century, climate change has increasingly affected Earth and its atmosphere.
Rising levels of carbon dioxide are warming the Earth s atmosphere, causing rising sea levels, melting
snow and ice, extreme fires and droughts, and intense rainfall and floods. Climate change has and will
continue to affect food production, availability of water, and can add to many health risks in humans
and animals. In fact, in an article by Justin Gillis titled, Scientists Warn of Perilous Climate Shift
Within Decades, Not Centuries he focuses on a paper written by a former NASA climate scientist,
James E. Hansen, explaining the effects of climate change on Earth today. Although many believe
Hansen s theories in the paper are quite far fetched, the author mentions, Despite any reservations they
might have about the new paper, virtually all climate scientists agree with Dr. Hansen s group that
society is not moving fast enough to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, posing grave risks (Gillis).
Gillis validates the fact that climate change has been rapidly expanding throughout Earth and society
has not been able to reduce it fast enough. Many negative risks are being posed and will continue to
mount if the issue of climate change is not taken seriously. Although climate change negatively affects
nearly all aspects of Earth, it poses a big

Progesterone
Progesterone is a steroid hormone that belongs to a group of sex hormones called progestogen. It is
secreted primarily by the placenta (during pregnancy), the corpus luteum and adrenal glands. The
corpus luteum is a temporary endocrine gland that is produced in a female body after ovulation and is
involved in the early stages of pregnancy. If the eggs are not fertilised, the corpus luteum reverts to a
corpus albicans and menstruation takes place. If the egg is fertilized, then progesterone is secreted by
the placenta.
Progesterone has the chemical formula of C21H30O2. Progesterone is composed of three 6 carbon
rings and one 5 carbon ring fused together, satisfying the the structure of a steroid. It contains two
ketone groups as well as an alkene group and is a hydrophobic molecule. Progesterone s main function
is to prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a fertilized egg and allow for further development into a
fetus. During pregnancy, progesterone allows for the development of the milk producing glands in the
breasts. Progesterone is also a neurosteroid that allows for normal brain function. It protects the brain

are specific to progesterone. The RNA that was formed is transformed into new protein. This entire
process changes the metabolic character of the cell allowing for the cell to carry out tasks specific to

Impulsivity And Its Effect On The Risk Of A Reward
Impulsivity has been defined numerous ways, but it is best explained as behavior without adequate
thought and can be commonly assessed using a number of different measures. Two measures
frequently used are the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS 11) and delayed discounting tasks. The BIS 11
is a self report questionnaire that produces global impulsivity scores and scores on three second order
factors: attentional, motor, and non planning. Each subscale of the BIS 11 assesses a different type of
impulsivity. The attentional subscale measures an individual s inability to focus attention or
concentrate on one subject, motor impulsivity tests action without thinking, and non planning refers to
the lack of future orientation.
On the other hand, delayed discounting is a behavioral assessment. It is considered a functional
measure because it gauges the participants choice in actual scenarios, it does not just ask about it.
Discounting pertains to the decrease in the subjective value of a reward as its uncertainty increases or
as the delay until its receipt increases (Du et al. 2002). For example, if a reward with the same value
can be obtained immediately or after some delay, the individual deciding will choose the immediate
reward.
Since the Barratt Impulsivity Scale and delayed discounting tasks differ in that the BIS 11 is a self
report questionnaire and delayed discounting is a behavior assessment, there is not enough evidence to
say they measure the same thing. Therefore, several

the poor increases, the people on the lower side of the income scale start to experience many issues.

Autobiography Of The Vaudeville Era
The Vaudeville Era was an incredibly influential time for American musical theatre. It s existence gave
rise to several performers from classic vaudeville acts to Ziegfeld Follies performers, and burlesque
dancers. From (and contributing to) it s death sprang popular new mediums of performance and
entertainment (Revue, Radio, Talkies, and Burlesque). There is little surprise that nostalgia for
vaudeville began closely after its death and continues to influence many forms of American
entertainment today. Gypsy is story about a family vaudeville centered act trying to make it in a time
when vaudeville was dying out. The story contains content about vaudeville and burlesque as it is a
biography of the famous burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee. Gypsy followed Gypsy Rose Lee from
vaudeville to burlesque. Burlesque was synonymous with stripping at this time and is partially
credited with killing vaudeville. In the movie Gypsy , the narrator and mother of Miss Gypsy Rose
Lee made a comment about how washed up vaudeville acts go to burlesque . because the narration
was done from the point of view of Gypsy s mother, the vernacular included early to mid 1900 s slang
such as the big time (best vaudeville circuit / Orpheum Circuit) and banana oil (a ridiculous or wrong

Gypsy throughout her life; both in vaudeville and burlesque. The musical style is on key with

Race Relations In American Society
Race relations in American society were a reflection on American consumerism; this consumer society
was directly tied to how Americans accessed consumer goods. Jim Crow laws dictated how and what
African Americans were permitted to consume and the creation of consumer credit redefined what
African Americans could afford to consume. The expansion of consumption under the creation of
consumer credit in the 1920s and the creation of Jim Crow laws from 1890s to the mid 1960s were
two major events that restricted African Americans from fully participating in the Consumer Society
that was being created. Jim Crow laws naturalized inequality by dignifying white work and

In the 1920s, automobiles began to be financed through consumer credit, as they were no longer seen
as luxury goods. Soon after the automobile finance wave emerged, financing spread to other durable
goods like televisions, radios, and the vacuums. As installment credit carried high interest rates
financing consumer credit became for the first time ever profitable, lending for the sake of
consumption appeared as people only saw low payments when taking into consideration purchasing a
durable good. The American Way of Debt Consumer by Hyman illustrates how automobile financing

this is all completed the dealer would take the contract and sell it to General Motors Acceptance

sales and profits. This was facilitated by the private car manufactures and in the case of mortgages by
the federal government. Consumer credit exploded and remade society in its entirety; is now meant
that your ability to consume was no longer tied to your wealth, but to how much you were expected to

What Is The Main Issue In To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird is a book about the struggles and many issues that happened in the south when
racism was very big, and is seen through the eyes of a young girl. One of the issues Scout doesn t
understand is the idea of racism. The Ku Klux Klan was very popular during the time period that the
book takes place. Many events that took place in the book could have easily been influenced by the
Ku Klux Klan. It also explains the message they depicted against blacks. The Ku Klux Klan originated
in Pulaski, Tennessee. The goal of the KKK was to reestablish white supremacy throughout the
country. Anyone against blacks could easily be part of the Klan. The government tried to stop the
KKK in the early 1800´s, but failed. Its members waged an underground campaign of intimidation and
violence directed at white and black Republican leaders. After a period of decline, white Protestant
nativist groups revived the Klan in the early 20th century, burning crosses and staging rallies, parades

Racism was a big problem in the south in the 1930´s. The Ku Klux Klan did not help with the problem
including racism, and they actually made it worse. With the Klan, they were constantly terrorizing
people and going on killing sprees, honestly for no other reason than to prove who they thought the
superior race was, which were the white men and women. The KKK was so popular during the time
period of the book, it was almost impossible to not know who they were and what they did. The
feelings the Ku Klux Klan had against blacks was so easily identified, that many events that took
place in the story are thought to have been influenced by the Klan

The Bataan Death March Effect On War
The Bataan Death March effect on war On December 7, 1941 the Japanese bombed the United States
Naval Base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese did not stop there. Their attacks
continued to the Philippines, where U.S. forces were stationed. After some time battling, the U.S. and
Filipino troops had to surrender and the Japanese took them over. The Bataan Death March did not
only affect the United States, Philippines, and Japanese, it affected how war trials were held and
carried out. The question is how did the Bataan Death March affect modern day warfare? The first
attack against the U.S. done by the Japanese was the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor just before 8 a.m., it was devastating. The Japanese fighter
planes destroyed around 20 naval ships and eight of them were some of the United State s biggest
battleships. The Japanese didn t just destroy vessels, they also managed to destroy around 300
airplanes. The amount of American soldier s lives lost was heart rending, there were over 2,000
Soldiers and Sailors lost from the American fleet. There were also more than 1,000 wounded or
critically injured on that horrifying day. The day of the Pearl Harbor attacks became known as a date
which will live in infamy , and this day was only the beginning. This was only the midpoint of Japan s
attacks, the second half was the Bataan Death March. One of the biggest questions that comes up
when discussing famous

The Militarization of the Gulf Cooperation Council to Deter Threats
How Fear Shapes the Future of the Region
Introduction:
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Peninsula Shield Force expresses the principle to protect
against any political turmoil or security infringement in any GCC part state. The Peninsula Shield
Force depends on the standard of group and coordinated security and barrier, with each GCC part state
promising to ensure and protect the common security and interests of GCC part states, and their
domain and jurisdiction.
One of the principle targets behind the foundation of the GCC in 1981 was security from the danger
postured by the Iran Iraq War, and Iranian propelled Islamist activism. The GCC Peninsula Shield
Force was made up of joint military strengths from GCC part states. The GCC Peninsula Shield Force
set up its home office in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia in 1985.
After the Second Gulf War in 1990 91, the GCC Peninsula Shield Force tried to improve its safeguard
abilities, with GCC part states setting up bound together operational strategies, preparing, and military
educational module. Notwithstanding this, the Peninsula Shield Force started to complete joint
military activities and moves with all GCC state militaries. The Peninsula Shield Force today holds
joint preparing practices at regular intervals with one of the Gulf s militaries. Another essential
accomplishment was the determination taken

Taoism By Lao Tzu
Anette Dopico
PHI 2010
Professor Jacob
March 18, 2018
Taoism is a philosophy which also means a way of life. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little before
Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record keeper. He
believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go about on
their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should act with
virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao Tzu thought it
was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a government making
up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is against anything with
certain regulations, even a food diet.
Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life. To
follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally. By
doing nothing one could accomplish everything. Don t go against what you have been faced, instead
go through it and learn from it, and never force anything because by doing that, you are not doing
anything good for yourself. Another key point of Tzu s writing is: we need to be in touch with our real
selves. We spend a great deal of time worrying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lao Tzu liked to compare people to certain parts of nature or virtues. There are almost half a billion of
Daoist s in the world. Lao Tzu s philosophy is all about learning how to live with harmony. We have
to make more time for ourselves, we have to worry less about the world and experience the world
more to be able to take it all in. Certain things happen on their own and cannot be forced, like grieving
gaining knowledge, developing relationships. Lao Tzu says we cannot be too preoccupied with
anxiety and worries because we will miss many opportunities and experiences that life has to

The Pros And Cons Of Collective Bargaining
One of the first laws President Roosevelt enacted was National Relations Act. This law was signed
into law in 1935. The key provisions of this law is to ensure workers are protected within the industry.
The most popular aspect of this is collective bargaining. This law also curtail certain private sector
labor and management practices, which can harm the general welfare of workers businesses, and the
U.S. economy (National Labor Relations Act). Collective bargaining establishes negotiation between
the workers and the employees. This is an attempt that certain things are compromised between the
managers and the owners. This pertains to salaries, work hours, healthcare, and among others. This
bill Is considered one of the important and profound piece of legislation ever passed because it began
a wave of the federal government being supportive of unions. Unions increased dramatically for many
years after that. Another key provision of this act is essentially, the worker have power to unionize, the
owners do not have a right to interfere. Collective bargaining is the hallmark of benefits of the workers
or employees within the organization. As stated prior, there were very little regards for workers in the
entity. Workers were working for longer hours, unsafe working conditions, and were paid a meager
salary. The nature of collective bargaining have evolved over the years and took a drastic turn. An
Article, written by Chris Langford, talks about why are collective bargaining

Bae Automated Systems Case Study Essay
In the early 1980 s, Denver experienced significant economic growth due to the booming oil, real
estate, and tourism industries. The major airport that operated within Denver during that time was the
Stapleton Airport. Up to 1970, the Stapleton Airport was able to accommodate the demands of Denver
but in subsequent years it was unable to meet the ever growing needs of the city. The Stapleton Airport
was seen as a liability and limited the attractiveness of businesses that were swarming to it. Issues
with handling high traffic volume, disruptions in connection schedules, and an overall poor airport
layout led the city of Denver to decide whether they wanted to expand or replace the Stapleton
Airport. A study performed in 1983 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While BAE was already working on United s baggage system, the PMT recognized the need for a
fully integrated baggage handling system for all of DIA. Since no other airlines were emerging with
plans to develop their own baggage system, airport planners and consultants drew up plans for an
airport wide baggage handling system and sent out request for bids to several different companies.
Initially BAE declined to bid on the project due to one main reason; the technology required to operate
a system of such a large size and complexity should be determined very early in the project life cycle.
BAE had the technology that was needed (destination coded vehicles moving at high speed) but
implementing this technology into such a complex project would have required much more time then
was available. Going against their better judgment, BAE presented the city of Denver with a proposal
to develop the most intricate automated baggage system ever built. The plan was to be very effective
in delivering baggage quickly, reliable in its operation, and extremely flexible. This type of system
would save ground time, decrease close out time for hub operations, and reduce time in sorting and
handling baggage. Although more expensive than an uncomplicated tug and baggage cart system,

The Chronicles Of Narni The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is about four children discovering
an alternate universe and attempting to defeat evil (the White Witch) with the help of the Christ like
figure, Aslan. The time of the book is set during World War II in England. The four Pevensie children,
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy go to live in a professor s house in order to escape war time. The
children soon discover Narnia, an alternate universe with talking creatures and a time zone much
different than the regular universe. Throughout the novel, Lewis presents to his readers different
writing styles that help them interpret his intended themes the way they want to; however, he uses
different descriptions that give his readers a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing that Lewis wanted his readers to take from his writing was to know and understand that in
order to be virtuous, you must have God s grace (McGrath 4). Many themes from the bible are found
in the Chronicles of Narnia, but throughout The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the biggest
symbol of Christianity is Narnia s king, Aslan ( A Fairy Tale... 3). Although he is a lion, he represents
Christ in almost every way. Lewis chose to use a lion because the animal itself is said to be the king of
beasts and in the bible, Jesus is referred to as The Lion of Judah (Baehr 3). In comparison of Aslan to
Christ, it is noticeable that there are certain similarities in the way that they were both selfless leaders
of their lands. Christ s crucifixion was a big part of the novel because Aslan gave his life so that
Edmund, who had given into temptation, didn t have to; much like Christ gave his life for his people.
The next day, Aslan rose from the dead, brought his warriors back to life and defeated evil and created
a new Narnia. In the bible sense, that lines up the story of Christ s resurrection, his appearance to his
disciples, his defeat of evil and then his creation of the new heavens and the new earth ( Response:
The Seattle Pacific... 1). Although Aslan did not give his life for all as Christ did, the fact that he was
dying for an imperfect person was representative of Christ s assurance that he

Fed Ex vs UPS Case Analysis Essay examples
Executive Summery
The parcel service industry is made up of four main competitors. These competitors are UPS, FedEx,
Airborne Express, and the U.S. Postal Service. Since 2000, American consumers have spent more than
$50 billion to ship parcels, packages, and overnight letters. New parcel distribution patterns developed
due to the way U.S. manufacturing companies are operating. The Internet has expanded the reach of
direct marketing, particularly with retail transactions requiring home delivery. Globalization has also
created the need for parcel carriers to expand worldwide.

Manufactures also depended more on the customer, information technology, and the increase in the
use of technology in all parts of the economy. Companies such as FedEx, UPS, Airborne Express, and
USPS shipped parcels at a faster rate and were more reliable than other rail, motor, and water carriers.
Trends and opportunities of the parcel service industry include globalization, e commerce, and supply
chain management. Internet logistics was FedEx and UPS s fastest growing business. The internet
enabled customers to link directly to retailers and their manufacturers. In 2001, parcel carriers served
almost all of the online market. They were able to provide information on packages to customers
through tracking systems on the web. This allowed customers to plan ahead and decrease delays in
deliveries. It also allowed for faster transactions and lower communication costs. Parcel companies
created partnerships with large Internet retailers. These partnerships allowed parcel service companies
to expand its overall delivery volume. Parcel companies improved tracking by implementing several
technological innovations. These included laser scanners and bar codes, state of the art software
programs, satellite and cell phone communication equipment, electronic information interchanges, and
the Internet.
Globalization is another major trend. Since the emergence of the

  • 2. Genetically Engineered Crops Essays Genetically Engineered Crops Chemical and seed companies have been working the last several years to alter the genetic make up of certain crops to combat heavy pressure from insects and weeds. Through genetic manipulation plant breeders have been able to make certain crops resistant to different types of chemicals and insects. Breeders can alter the crops by adding to a specific plant one or more genes from other related crops with a known resistance to an insect or herbicide The use of genetically engineered crops has become a hotly debated topic over the last couple of years. Environmentalists are concerned with how these new crops will affect the environment. Farmers want to know how these crops will help them to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roundup works by inhibiting enzymes essential to plant growth. By increasing the enzymes produced in plants, the plant is unaffected by the herbicide (Monsanto Crossroads). With the insertion of the Roundup resistant and Bt genes, the negative environmental impacts from agriculture can be reduced. One way environmental damage can be reduced is by decreasing pesticide use. According to Monsanto, Bollgard cotton, a variety resistant to bollworms, was used in 13% of the total cotton crop in 1996. Sixty percent of those growers used no insecticide, most others only used one application. This is compared to an average of 4 to 6 applications. The reduced applications saved a quarter million gallons of insecticide. Monsanto has also developed potatoes with resistance to the Colorado potato beetle. Farmers using this new variety reported eliminating 1 5 insecticide applications. The total reduction in applications of insecticides was between 33% 42% over conventional methods (Biotech Benefits). By inserting the Bt gene into the plant cell, only the insects that are damaging the crop are killed. Conversely, when the Bt gene is used in a pesticide spray many more insects that may have been beneficial to the crop are killed (ESA Position Statement). By having insect resistance built in, farmers can eliminate costly trips across the field needed to spray insecticides. Much like Bt corn, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Types Of Fogs And The Foggiest Places Types of Fogs and the Foggiest places in U.S. Fog, like any cloud, usually forms in one of two ways: (1) by cooling air is cooled below its saturation point (dew point); and (2) by evaporation and mixing water vapor is added to the air by evaporation, and mixing water vapor is added to the air by evaporation, and the moist air mixes with relatively dry air. (Ahrens Samson, 2011, p. 97) Radiation Fog, (ground fog) Occurs when the radiational air temperature is below its dew point over land. The best conditions are when dry air overlay s a thin layer of humid air during a clear night. These conditions allow for cooling of the ground to happen fast due to the thin layer, humid layer does not take in much earth s departing infrared radiations. Advection fog, conditions call for hot and humid air to blow over a cool surface, since the surface cools the air. The dew point temperature has to be cool enough as the air temperature which causes condensation to form and creates a dense fog to form. As the warm air cools, the temperature will reach the dew point temperature, forcing the water vapor to condense into a cloud. (Masters, 2016) Upslope fog, this type of fog may occur on mountain tops when cold air blows up a slope known as, orographic uplift. The air condenses since it builds up moisture as the cold rises. Evaporation (mixing) fog, this type of fog forms when two unsaturated masses of air are combined. Some of the foggiest places that we can see these events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Lev Vygotsky s Social Development Theory And Zone Of... Each classroom is composed of a unique and diverse group of learners that have different abilities in the way they learn. Models of learning and various theoretical frameworks provide a blueprint to help teachers understand different theories across disciplines. Knowledge is everywhere and providing children with the proper tools on how to learn is essential in education. I believe that if I create a learning environment that allows children to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically it will allow students a path to help meet their full potential as an individual. A few of the theoretical frameworks and theorists I have found most useful in my teaching experience and that have helped me developed my philosophy include Lev Vygotsky, John Dewey and Howard Gardner. To better develop students literacy knowledge and improve their usage of academic language, I will utilize Lev Vygotsky s Social Development Theory and Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) to support the instructional design in my lessons in the classroom. Vygotsky s ZPD suggests that children benefit from having addition support or scaffolding from a More Knowledgeable Other (MKO). According to Vygotsky the teacher s role of providing support and guidance will allow the student to achieve with assistance that he or she might not have reached independently. According to the Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science it states, Vygotsky argued that educative environments must utilize the ZPD, providing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Children With... Children today are affected by a number of developmental and behavioral disorders. One that has become very common over the years is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. This disorder is diagnosed to individuals who cannot focus well and have apparent restless behavior. Those who are diagnosed with this disorder seem to be young or adolescent, and the numbers are continuing to increase. Due to the increase in numbers, many alarmed parents are quick to jump to giving their kids medication. This method is quite controversial and has some advantages and disadvantages to it. Some believe that today s physicians will over diagnose children with ADHD, leading to normal kids receiving unneeded prescriptions of powerful stimulants. However, there is still a large need of medication for children who are truly suffering from this mental disorder. When one is properly diagnosed with ADHD, there are many advantages to treating with medication. ADHD was first discussed in 1902 by British pediatrician Sir George Still. He described it as an abnormal defect of moral control in children. He discovered that the children with ADHD had a harder time controlling their behaviors when compared to typical children, but this didn t make them unintelligent. Also in 1902, Sir George Still published some lectures to the Royal College of Physicians in England where he talked about a group of children with what appeared to be behavioral problems. Contagious Nature Of Kind Acts During the second week of the new year, Mrs. Thompson s language arts classes conducted an experiment in order to demonstrate the contagious nature of kind acts. To accomplish this, they received slips of paper from Mrs. Thompson that could be transferred to recipients of kind acts to be redistributed. This produced a continuous cycle of kind acts that is still in effect, which provides the world with an example of the contagious behavior of acts of kindness. Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. These are the words of the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, a man who dedicated his life to obtaining equality for the people of Tibet. Although impossible to impact the world in a manner identical to that of the Dalai Lama, we possess the capability to alter it, nevertheless, by performing seemingly insignificant acts of kindness. Completing tasks that may comprise of merely retrieving a fellow student s fallen pencil can have profound effects on society, for these acts tend to spread in a similar vein to contagions. Therefore, a single act of kindness may develop into thousands of kind actions, which can form a superior town, city, country, and world. • 15. Summary Of Seven Myths Of The Spanish Conquest For decades, the history of Latin America has been shrouded in a cover of Spanish glory and myth that misleads and complicates the views of historians everywhere. Myths such as the relationship between natives and conquistadors, and the individuality of the conquistadors themselves stand as only a few examples of how this history may have become broken and distorted. However, in Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest Matthew Restall goes to great lengths to dispel these myths and provide a more accurate history of Latin American, in a readable and enjoyable book. Restall s ultimate goal in writing this book is to provide readers and scholars alike with a more realistic viewpoint and history of the Spanish conquest. He wishes to dispel the many myths that accompany the epic tale so as to provide a better understanding of who the natives were and, more importantly to Restall, who the Spanish were. He does an excellent job of questioning the who, what, and where of the personalities and motives of the men involved in conquest. These questions are heartily answered in a well written and easy to read history book. Restall answers his own questions present in the introduction by focusing each chapter on a different myth. Chapter one discusses that the men who partook in conquest were valiant, rich, and outstanding. This idea gives credit to both the Spanish interpretation and the beautifully rugged men cast in Hollywood adaptations. The author notes, additionally, that the myth ... Written by Caroline Cooney, the novel follows Lady Mary as she experiences the tyranny of Lady Macbeth, and the struggles of trying to save the lives of anyone she can. Many comparisons can be drawn to the original, however many differences are prevalent. Although suspenseful and action packed, Enter Three Witches struggles with keeping characters straight and starts off very slow. Cooney takes the reader on a sporadic point of view hopping adventure throughout the world of Mr. and Mrs. Macbeth. Following Lady Mary, Seyton, Fleance, and the maids, we get an individual perspective of the events of Macbeth. It soon becomes very difficult to determine what events are being referred to, and extremely difficult due to the time frames being covered. Although there is an early battle revealed in the novel, the drawn out expositions overshadow the suspense of Enter Three Witches. The novel also focuses too much on the role the witches play. In the original Macbeth, the battle of ambition versus prophecy is shown in the likes of Macbeth. Macbeth decidedly acts on his own accord, and his greed turns him into a mad man. Wherever we are or whatever we are doing, the fact is we are likely to be surrounded and influenced by advertisements. Shakespeare advertised his plays, of course, but not in the commercial sense we know today. For more than a hundred years, though, commercial advertisements for products and services have been vying for the attention of the consumer. • 22. Justifying Evil for Good is Cruel There are many forms of cruelty. One form that many can relate to is bullying. Whether having been bullied or been the one bullying others, those cruel memories can forever be imprinted on one s heart. In White Lies, Erin Murphy, expresses that although bullying is wrong, trying to justify bad deeds for good is equally cruel. Using rhetorical and tonal elements, Murphy stirs emotions with pathos, perhapsing with logos, and vivid images with diction. Also, as a teacher, she had the power to influence the students and teach them that any form of cruelty is wrong. Using perhapsing from a first person point of view, Murphy states that trying to justify bad deeds for good is cruel. Describing an image of Connie and her mother at the 7 Eleven, Murphy is showing that Connie told a white lie about her father s job: All this changed in mid October when Connie s father got a job at a candy factory, news Connie announced tentatively one rainy day... this makes the reader consider if Connie was doing a bad deed by telling a lie for good (382). Also, Murphy makes one question Connie s mother because even though she was trying to help Connie, condoning a lie teaches Connie that justifying a bad deed for one s own good is acceptable Her mother was filling a cardboard box (with candy) (383). Murphy s article makes one wonder if there is a middle ground for right and wrong, but there is not and trying to justify wrong for good is cruel. Beginning in the 19th century, climate change has increasingly affected Earth and its atmosphere. Rising levels of carbon dioxide are warming the Earth s atmosphere, causing rising sea levels, melting snow and ice, extreme fires and droughts, and intense rainfall and floods. Climate change has and will continue to affect food production, availability of water, and can add to many health risks in humans and animals. In fact, in an article by Justin Gillis titled, Scientists Warn of Perilous Climate Shift Within Decades, Not Centuries he focuses on a paper written by a former NASA climate scientist, James E. Although many believe Hansen s theories in the paper are quite far fetched, the author mentions, Despite any reservations they might have about the new paper, virtually all climate scientists agree with Dr. Hansen s group that society is not moving fast enough to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, posing grave risks (Gillis). Gillis validates the fact that climate change has been rapidly expanding throughout Earth and society has not been able to reduce it fast enough. • 33. Impulsivity And Its Effect On The Risk Of A Reward Impulsivity has been defined numerous ways, but it is best explained as behavior without adequate thought and can be commonly assessed using a number of different measures. Two measures frequently used are the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS 11) and delayed discounting tasks. The BIS 11 is a self report questionnaire that produces global impulsivity scores and scores on three second order factors: attentional, motor, and non planning. Each subscale of the BIS 11 assesses a different type of impulsivity. The attentional subscale measures an individual s inability to focus attention or concentrate on one subject, motor impulsivity tests action without thinking, and non planning refers to the lack of future orientation. On the other hand, delayed discounting is a behavioral assessment. It is considered a functional measure because it gauges the participants choice in actual scenarios, it does not just ask about it. Discounting pertains to the decrease in the subjective value of a reward as its uncertainty increases or as the delay until its receipt increases (Du et al. 2002). For example, if a reward with the same value can be obtained immediately or after some delay, the individual deciding will choose the immediate reward. • 40. Autobiography Of The Vaudeville Era The Vaudeville Era was an incredibly influential time for American musical theatre. It s existence gave rise to several performers from classic vaudeville acts to Ziegfeld Follies performers, and burlesque dancers. From (and contributing to) it s death sprang popular new mediums of performance and entertainment (Revue, Radio, Talkies, and Burlesque). There is little surprise that nostalgia for vaudeville began closely after its death and continues to influence many forms of American entertainment today. The expansion of consumption under the creation of consumer credit in the 1920s and the creation of Jim Crow laws from 1890s to the mid 1960s were two major events that restricted African Americans from fully participating in the Consumer Society that was being created. In the 1920s, automobiles began to be financed through consumer credit, as they were no longer seen as luxury goods. Soon after the automobile finance wave emerged, financing spread to other durable goods like televisions, radios, and the vacuums. As installment credit carried high interest rates financing consumer credit became for the first time ever profitable, lending for the sake of consumption appeared as people only saw low payments when taking into consideration purchasing a durable good. The American Way of Debt Consumer by Hyman illustrates how automobile financing came to be a person would purchase an automobile through a dealer. They would sign the dealer s papers and agree to make payments for say 24 months and some fees for putting it all together. Once this is all completed the dealer would take the contract and sell it to General Motors Acceptance Corporation GMAC) who in turned issued bonds or used profits to finance the dealers. This drove up sales and profits. This was facilitated by the private car manufactures and in the case of mortgages by the federal government. Consumer credit exploded and remade society in its entirety; is now meant that your ability to consume was no longer tied to your wealth, but to how much you were expected to produce in wages. Turing that future income into present consumption was what the consumer credit was all about . Installment sales of automobiles after World War 1 soared from around zero to sixty percent of total car sales. One of the issues Scout doesn t understand is the idea of racism. The Ku Klux Klan was very popular during the time period that the book takes place. The Ku Klux Klan originated in Pulaski, Tennessee. The goal of the KKK was to reestablish white supremacy throughout the country. Anyone against blacks could easily be part of the Klan. The government tried to stop the KKK in the early 1800´s, but failed. Its members waged an underground campaign of intimidation and violence directed at white and black Republican leaders. After a period of decline, white Protestant nativist groups revived the Klan in the early 20th century, burning crosses and staging rallies, parades and marches denouncing immigrants, Catholics, Jews, blacks and organized labor. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little before Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record keeper. He believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go about on their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao Tzu thought it was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a government making up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is against anything with certain regulations, even a food diet. Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life. To follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally. By doing nothing one could accomplish everything. Don t go against what you have been faced, instead go through it and learn from it, and never force anything because by doing that, you are not doing anything good for yourself. The major airport that operated within Denver during that time was the Stapleton Airport. Up to 1970, the Stapleton Airport was able to accommodate the demands of Denver but in subsequent years it was unable to meet the ever growing needs of the city. The Stapleton Airport was seen as a liability and limited the attractiveness of businesses that were swarming to it. Issues with handling high traffic volume, disruptions in connection schedules, and an overall poor airport layout led the city of Denver to decide whether they wanted to expand or replace the Stapleton Airport. While BAE was already working on United s baggage system, the PMT recognized the need for a fully integrated baggage handling system for all of DIA. Since no other airlines were emerging with plans to develop their own baggage system, airport planners and consultants drew up plans for an airport wide baggage handling system and sent out request for bids to several different companies. Initially BAE declined to bid on the project due to one main reason; the technology required to operate a system of such a large size and complexity should be determined very early in the project life cycle. BAE had the technology that was needed (destination coded vehicles moving at high speed) but implementing this technology into such a complex project would have required much more time then was available. Going against their better judgment, BAE presented the city of Denver with a proposal to develop the most intricate automated baggage system ever built. The plan was to be very effective in delivering baggage quickly, reliable in its operation, and extremely flexible. This type of system would save ground time, decrease close out time for hub operations, and reduce time in sorting and handling baggage. Although more expensive than an uncomplicated tug and baggage cart system, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One thing that Lewis wanted his readers to take from his writing was to know and understand that in order to be virtuous, you must have God s grace (McGrath 4). Many themes from the bible are found in the Chronicles of Narnia, but throughout The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the biggest symbol of Christianity is Narnia s king, Aslan ( A Fairy Tale... 3). Although he is a lion, he represents Christ in almost every way. Lewis chose to use a lion because the animal itself is said to be the king of beasts and in the bible, Jesus is referred to as The Lion of Judah (Baehr 3). In comparison of Aslan to Christ, it is noticeable that there are certain similarities in the way that they were both selfless leaders of their lands. Christ s crucifixion was a big part of the novel because Aslan gave his life so that Edmund, who had given into temptation, didn t have to; much like Christ gave his life for his people. The next day, Aslan rose from the dead, brought his warriors back to life and defeated evil and created a new Narnia.
