Human Response to Death in The Seventh Seal, by Ingmar...
Living with Death
In his film The Seventh Seal, Ingmar Bergman openly addresses the human response to death. The
film documents the return of Antonius Block and his squire Jons to their homeland after their ten years
of fighting in the Crusades. During their return journey to Antonius Block s castle, the characters
encounter death in many forms, including the devastating plague afflicting the population and (even
less subtly) Death personified in his classic black garb. Each of Block s and Jons confrontations with
death provides opportunities for Bergman to display the different philosophies of death that he has
intertwined with his characters. Through the manifestation of these philosophies, the audience is given
a chance to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heidegger uses this disparity to describe how an authentic existence might be achieved. According to
Jonathan Dollimore:
Heidegger takes up an old idea that death is not the event which ends life but a profound reality which
in forms it, and he seeks to take this truth so fully into our being that we are compelled to embrace
authentic existence and leave the world of false sociableness (Dollimore 161 162)
In other words, Heidegger suggests that people generally carry out their lives and behave according to
the established social structures (i.e. the false sociableness mentioned by Dollimore or Heidegger s
concept of the inauthentic existence). Constant awareness of the possibility of death would free the
part of an individual that must be compromised in order to follow the established social conventions;
Heidegger refers to this freedom as the authentic existence (Kraus 98). This facet of Heideggerian
philosophy can be seen in The Seventh Seal as Block s encounter with Death allows him to pursue the
authentic existence.
As mentioned earlier, Antonius Block becomes the means by which Heidegger s authentic existence
becomes actualized in the film. In the confessional scene, the film begins to develop this philosophy
through the weary knight. Once willing to travel to distant lands and fight for the

Driverless Car Vs Drones
Two emerging concepts that are changing the way the world looks at transportation and logistics is the
driverless car and drones. The concept behind the driverless car is pretty straight forward; commercial
automobiles will be operated by computer software instead of humans. Companies like Google, who
have already started implementing driverless cars for personal use are leading the way. Large scale
companies DHL will most likely be the first to introduce driverless fleets. According to a 2016 online
article by the NPD Group, LLC, DHL, which have the ability to test driverless vehicles inside massive
warehouses, port facilities and intermodal yards, thereby reducing the risk to human life while
amassing data about the vehicles capabilities,

Using Titanium Dioxide as Photocatalyst to Reduce Pollution
Recent research shows that titanium dioxide can be used as a photocatalystic property to reduce
pollutants. This was first discovered by Fujishima and Honda in 1972, where the photocatalystic
properties of titanium dioxide were found to be applicable. It was shown that by converting ultraviolet
light energy, this compound acts as a catalyst to produce hydroxyl in the presence of moisture in the
air. Hydroxl then can oxidize and convert these harmful pollutants to HNO3. The reason that this is
useful is because nitrogen oxide is a common pollutant which has many adverse effects to society.
Nitrogen oxides may form into nitric acid which contributes to acid rain, and it also chemically reacts
to sunlight and changes into ozone which additionally has many adverse health effects for living
organisms and non living things alike. The health related issues are a major reason to reduce emissions
of NOx because although health is important, money is an issue as well. In California an independent
study conducted from 2005 to 2007 found that nearly 30,000 visits in the state were due to California
failing to meet both federal and state standards for PM and ozone. This data comes from statistics of
hospital reports for respiratory, cardiovascular, and asthma attacks. Even though the study estimates
were on the conservative side, it was estimated that the cost of un attainment to the state between that
3 year periods was 193 million dollars. And because the majority of residence

Syrian Immigration Policies
Purpose
Canada s current immigration policies are failing to meet the diverse and unique needs of Syrian
refugees. The purpose of this briefing note is to present recommendations regarding the resettlement
of Syrian refugees in Canada, as there is a need for improved health and social support services. Social
workers in particular have a crucial role in the resettlement and successful integration of Syrian
refugees in Canada.
Background Information and Summary of Key Points
In response to the ongoing conflict in Syria, the Government of Canada, private sponsors and other
organizations plan to resettle over 25,000 Syrian refugees (Government of Canada, 2016).
Refugee status is determined in accordance with the eligibility criteria and regulations ... Show more

Acculturation and integration is often a stressful process for both individuals and families (Lacroix,
2003). Therefore as social workers, it is vital to recognize and understand the history, traditions,
values, family structures and cultures of refugees, as those deeply rooted experiences shape and alter
their lives (Thomas Bernard Moriah, 2007).
Recommendations
Improve access to information on how to navigate necessary health and social services.
Offer health and social services in the client s own language, which may involve hiring Syrian
refugees with lived experiences, interpreters, and/or cultural brokers.
Implement mandatory education and training programs on the complex nature of resettlement and
integration to ensure health care and social service providers are practicing in a culturally competent
and safe way.
Create links between different services and improve collaboration between those services (i.e.

Rising Strong Sparknotes
Book Assignment As I read Rising Strong by Brene Brown it really hit home with me. In her book she
talks about something most people do not like to deal with, which is shame and being vulnerable. We
all feel shame no matter who we are. Some people take it better than others do. Some people take their
shame and burry it deep down inside them and others takes their shame and makes great success
stories out of it. Brene Brown talks about how much she struggled with being vulnerable and how she
dealt with it. She starts off her book with a long presentation of her book and how we can approach
shame. She enlightens us that Rising Strong is regarding getting to the heart of the most excruciating
and uncomfortable minutes we ve ever experienced, getting genuine about the path in which those
moments have made us feel and being sufficiently striking to consider ourselves responsible to get up
and develop from the past as we move into what more there is to come. She likewise focuses on that
yes, most definitely, disappointment is excruciating, exceptionally difficult. Tragically be that as it
may, the stories of battle to achievement that we re so regularly told do more than see their way
through the pain and make their way to be success stories. Brown states that all we need are, a critical
mass of bad asses who are willing to dare, fall, feel their way through tough emotion, and rise again
(Brown, 2015, p. 30.) In chapter one of her book Rising Strong, Brown talks about the

Disparities In US Birth Rates Of Hispanic Adolescents
The main ethnic/racial groups affected by the health issue are non Hispanic African American females,
Hispanic females, and Native Americans/Native Alaskans. There were key study findings from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that found that U.S. birth rates for adolescents vary
considerably by race and Hispanic origin (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Thus,
this provides even more clear evidence on the difference of ethnic/racial groups. Additionally, in 2008,
the birth rate for Hispanic adolescents was approximately five times the rate for Asian/Pacific Islander
adolescents, three times the rate for non Hispanic white adolescents, and somewhat higher than the
rates for non Hispanic African American and Native American/Native Alaskan adolescents (Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011).
This brings caution, as according to The Pew Charitable Trusts, although teen pregnancy and birth
rates have declined over the past two decades, states still face the reality that African American and
Latina teens are more than twice as likely as white teens to become pregnant (Wiltz, T. 2015). ... Show

Based on the cross contextual analysis and evidence, adolescent pregnancy seems to be a glaring
issue. This is due to the fact, that all statistical findings point to the same direction: expressions

Suggested Strategy for Central High School
Needs Assessment As chair of the committee charged with the recommendation for the purchase of
new computer equipment, I will detail a suggested plan for this $50,000 project at Central High
School. The high school has 1000 students in four grade levels (9th through 12th), and has
approximately 60 and 20 supporting staff. An inventory of the computers at the whole school was
conducted to understand what is currently available. There is currently one computer lab per grade
level in the school with 22 computers each, allowing for each grade use of this for one period per day.
There are also two computers in each classroom (one for student use, one for teacher use) as well as a
bank of computers in the library. There are also individual computers for the guidance counselors,
nurse, principals and assistant principals, and office staff. As the inventory was being done, a survey
was passed out to all of the staff asking where the needs were greatest and what specific equipment
was lacking. The overwhelming desire of the majority of the teachers was more computers in the
individual classrooms, specifically in the math and science rooms as a lot of current information was
required and there was a lot of competition for its use. There was a great desire to be flexible and
move the computer from place to place, such that a laptop computer or tablet computer was preferred
over a desktop. Market Research In order to take the needs of the school and convert that into a

Gk Chesterton Maniac Summary
Maniac , a chapter of Orthodoxy, was written by G.K. Chesterton to shine a light on the common man.
To begin, he writes, reason used without root, reason in the void. The man who begins to think without
the proper first principles goes mad... In this quote, Chesterton describes how difficult it is to think
and interpret new information if you are not ready. He is explaining that if someone takes in too much
information that is too advanced, they may not respond to it very well. For example, if someone was
not taught how to do simple addition, how will they be able to subtract, multiply, or divide without
becoming annoyed and giving up? This quote describes that people need a base of information in
order to grow and learn more. In Chesterton s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One quote to describe this is, He has always had one foot in earth and the other in fairyland. It implies
that the common man is content with seeing both worlds. Next, Chesterton uses the metaphor, He has
permitted the twilight. This is describing that the mystic is allowing the unknown in his life. The
common man understands that he does not know everything, and accepts it. This is what keeps him
sane. He either does not want to learn everything, since it would make him unhappy, or he is not
aware of his ignorance. He is able to acknowledge the paradox, and not question it. The people who
choose to try and learn everything become insane. They are unable to fathom the horrors of the world
and unwilling to accept the paradoxes. The choice of insanity is a decision that everyone needs to
make at some point. To learn too much and be unhappy, or be naive to all of the dangers and threats of
the world. Additionally, Chesterton writes about the morbid logicians. The morbid logicians are the
teachers, authors, and artists of the world. These people understand the world and try to portray it with

Diversity In America s Racial History
Commencing with the straightforward, yet unethical act of introducing slaves, regardless of race, to
America, racial tension wedged itself into America s atmosphere in the past, its conscience in the
present, and legacy in the future. As America s racial history did not reflect the most pleasant aspects
of the events and concepts in America s history, its racial history, however, profoundly reflected the
racial relations we, as individuals and a collective society experience today, with present events
regarding racial issues able to be traced back to racial conflicts in history such as the civil rights
movements, racist laws designed to maintain the social hierarchy, and white supremacist groups that
exist to this very day. With the many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through his efforts pertaining racial history, society s role in furthering that process of equality and all

and the consequences of events in the present and future. Regardless of King and others mindset in
terms of leading future generations to carry on the fight and the thirteenth amendment that legally
abolished slavery except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted
(Reconstruction), many other laws were ratified to counter protests regarding equal rights and
opportunity, with the goal of maintaining white supremacy throughout society, even if slavery was

The Categorization of Rape as a Hate Crime Essay examples
The Categorization of Rape as a Hate Crime As rape and hate crimes are separated into different
categories, their definitions are almost exactly alike. Rape is the crime of having sexual intercourse
with a person against their will usually influenced by violence and the will for domination. Hate
crimes are physical crimes against a certain group; fortunately they also are usually influenced by
violence and the will for domination. Rape and hate crimes are a huge part of today s society however
they are protected under and placed in different categories, where as they should both be in the same
category. Rape should be categorized as a hate crime.

Bringing into account the crimes against the black race. Another large, well known hate group/clan
were the Nazi s. The Nazi s were against the Jewish religion, the white race, and the homosexuals.
Since the end of Adolph Hitler, Nazism has spread most rapidly since the 1980s because of the use
and availability of the Internet (Green haven). Adolph Hitler, the founder of the Nazi s, hated Jews,
whites, and homosexuals. Hitler tried killing off these races, the only group of people Hitler wanted
was people with blue eyes and blonde hair. In addition, he tried to dominate the other groups, which
he did well at, and he also fulfilled this sense of domination by extreme violence. Also this new
Nazism originated in Europe. In April 1995, a bombing happened in Oklahoma City. Timothy
McVeigh, the man who bombed Oklahoma City, killed at least 168 people (Green haven). Tom
Metzger was the founder of the White Aryan Resistance (W.A.R). Tom Metzger, 1981, a large people
involved in hate crimes wanted to bring ideology to the Ku Klux Klan. He also used technology to
spread knowledge about what he wanted to do. As a result to this, his followers appeared on television
shows. Unfortunately, their appearance on the Geraldo Rivera Show led to a violent brawl. Fortunately
in 1990 the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) won a civil suit against Tom Metzger for an
Ethiopian immigrant who had been murdered. This civil suit awarded the SPLC with $12.5 million.

the idea of equestrian community in favor of larger lots and a planned development. Our POA was one

song was lyrical song and was homophonic. The group had dance moves to this song and when the

her poem Back When All was Continuous Chuckles ( Colette Inez. ).
This narrative poem, tells a story about the speaker and her friend Doris riding the Beeline bus

Sometimes we heard moans from the back room and I helped wring out cloths and Doris brought
water in a glass held to her mother s lips (17 22) it is the first time we see the children in a serious
manner as they take care of Doris s mother. While the war may be a faraway thought, Doris s mother
having cancer directly affects the children and they have to deal with reality for a short time.
As soon as Doris s mother can be left alone the children are able to return to their happy little world
apart from the rest: But soon we were flipping through joke books, withering on the floor, war news
shut off, back when we pretended all was continuous chuckles (23 25) . Here the author reveals that
while the title of the poem may have been Back When All Was Continuous Chuckles the children were
only pretending that it was a carefree time by using humor and jokes in everyday life to distract
themselves from the terrible things going on around them.
Inez ends the poem with these powerful lines, and we rode the bus past Greenfield s rise where stones,
trumpeting angels, would bear names we later came to recognize (26 28) . The cemetery is mentioned
again, this time in a graver tone. It is no longer a place they can joke about, now they know people
buried in Greenfield and it would be a very different experience riding by the cemetery

Software developers program and write the code of software used on computers. Without software

Development I took many steps to increase my understanding of the career. I started my career
research by searching for general information about the career. This research was performed during
class in the computer lab. I found that on average Software Developers make $43,640 $101,410
annually. I then searched for information about the education and training that is beneficial to
someone in this career. I found that a major in computer science or related subject would be the
standard major for a Software Developer. I also found that math classes such as Calculus are
beneficial to understanding software development. I then researched useful skills and traits of
Software Developers. Some useful traits are creativity, problem solving, and a basic understanding of
digital media. These traits contribute to the success of a developer. I found this research gathered to be

Business Model Analysis On The Management Of The...
For a company to achieve maximum impact on their strategies whether marketing, financial or
expansion the company must understand their business activities. Efficiency in managing business
activities ensures smooth operation for maximum profit (Brinkman, 2). The business model strategy
enhances the management of the enterprise and operational design to conform to profit making goals
by implementing the segmentation of business activities. The research report will employ the business
model canvas to study and perform data analysis on the quickly growing taxi company Uber
Company. Data analysis is the deliberate activity of collecting and presenting data in a form that
highlights useful information that is helpful in decision making (Boyd, 18). Data analysis can be
described as the implied process of taking the whole of the collected data and identifying trends to
determine direction, meaning and implications, in addition to asking questions about the received data
and making comparisons within it to expand concepts from it (Warner, 13). Travis Kalanick and
Garrett Camp founded Uber Company back in 2009. The company s objective was to come up with a
mobile app that was to dominate in the transportation sector (Reilly Williams 32). The Uber app is
known to allow users to make their trip request over the app, which is also where taxi drivers get
routed. By March 2015, this service was accessible in over 55 nations and over 200 cities all over the

Native American Colonialism In Rez Life
For over 200 years every treaty, negotiation, and promise to the Native Americans by the American
government has been violated. Native Americans have faced oppression, starvation, cultural
backlashing, and were pushed to the very edge of extinction at the hands of colonial settlers. The
indigenous culture was viewed as recessive and primitive. Americans considered themselves as the
superior race and forcefully assimilated the indigenous people. American society almost succeeded in
eradicating indigenous culture through assimilation and genocide, but indigenous people are an
extremely proud and resilient people. Despite settler s society s effort to decimate the indigenous
nations they have survived and are fighting to preserve their culture. European ideology and influence
runs ramped and infringes on almost every aspect of daily life. Regardless of the infringement of
settler society, indigenous people have battled to create and preserve an autonomous culture. Society
has very powerful and arrogant forces. We now live in an era of post modern colonial manipulation;
where power created by settler colonialism is being used to erase Indigenous identities and presences.

Gender, Gender And Gender Bias
Language and gender has become an increasingly popular topic of study over recent decades, most
likely due to the second wave of feminism in the 1960s and 70s. This can also be seen in the fact that
goals of linguistic studies shifted at this point, to not just look at grammatical differences between
males and females but to examine sexism and gender bias in language. The wording of such studies
becomes increasingly important in the modern era, as gender is now recognised as a socially
constructed concept of masculine and feminine features, based on biological sex but not limited to
that. Simone de Beauvoir (1952) believed that we gradually become more masculine or feminine but
we are not inherently gendered.
Language and gender was not developed as a serious subfield until the 1975 publication of Robin
Lakoff s Language and Woman s Place. Lakoff argued that women use particular language features in
order to deny themselves means of strong expression, which are stereotypically reserved for males.
These features include shows of uncertainty, such as hedging and indirect requests. Indirect requests
include making a statement in hope that it will elicit the desired response from someone else without
openly asking. Women s speech seems... to contain more instances of well , y know ... words that
convey the sense that the speaker is uncertain about what [she] is saying (Lakoff, 1975:53). Dale
Spender (1980) talks about gender power relations, but disagrees with Lakoff as she

behind the wheel time of this traditional, body on frame SUV. Indeed, in my past reviews and thoughts
about the model I have affectionately called it Cadillac Escalade Light, offering homage to GM s most
luxurious SUV.
That doesn t mean the big GMC is a lightweight far from it. It s as close to a Cadillac model you can
get without invading the Escalade s space. But that still means you get perforated leather seats, heated
and cooled front ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The standard seating arrangement has two bucket seats up front, a pair of captain s chairs in the
second row, and a third row split folding bench seat.
Massive is the cabin and every seating position supplies generous amounts of head space and legroom.
The third row has the tightest space, but even that area has sufficient shoulder and hip room.
Up front is a pair of comfortable bucket seats with all driver and cabin controls where you expect to
find them. Leather is generously found across the dashboard, surrounding the center console, on the
door inlays, and covering the seats. Also present are wood grain accents and burnished aluminum trim;
contrast stitching on the console as well as on the doors collectively, these touches elevate this model.
Standard features are many and include three zone climate control, a power tilt and telescopic steering
column, power adjustable pedals, as well as heated and ventilated front seats. The second row seats
also have a heating option and include a power release fold and tumble feature for ease of access to

American Voting Patterns, By Angus Campbell, Philip...
American voting patterns is often a topic studied by numerous people for a variety of reasons.
Whether it is to gain an advantage in an election or trying to predict the outcome of an election, the
study of American voters has always been researched. The American Voter Unabridged Edition, by
Angus Campbell, Philip Converse, Warren Miller, and Donald Stokes, is regarded as the model for
conducting voting research. The scope of the book is astounding, ranging from the political parties to
the psychology of individual voters, the book laid the foundation for further voting examination. The
objectives of the research project had a variety of aims. One was to understand the voting decisions of
the national electorate in the manner that transcends some of the specific elements of historical
circumstance. Within the primary motive for their research, they wished to find the political impact of
identification with social class and to find out the voters preferences based on psychological
determinants. There were numerous ways they could have conducted their research; however, they
stuck to a few parameters that they listed in the introduction to the book. First, the book voting
behavior that occurred in the United States alone. Second, they focused on the presidential elections
and the electoral process. They included numerous factors, including the human element, Voting

Comparing Women In Real Life And Fairy Tales
Comparing The Roles of Women In Real Life and Fairy Tales
How different are the roles of women in real life and in fairy tales? Women have very different roles
in fairy tales than they do in real life. In fairy tales, women can t choose who they marry and they can
t own their own land. In real life women have the choice to own land and marry who they choose. In
some of the fairy tales the role of the women would clean the house and make meals.
In the fairy tale Cinderella, there are two different personalities of women. One is beautiful, kind,
obedient, and listening. The other personality is the evil, ugly and ambitious. Cinderella is the
beautiful woman and in the fairy tale she doesn t have any ambition. For her stepmother and her two

In the story the Queen and Snow White are equally beautiful but they have different levels of purity.
The ideal beauty remains pure and passive. In some versions of Snow White she is afraid of
everything, and in other versions she is smart and gets trained and becomes a fighter to fight against
the Queen.
The last fairy tale is Sleeping beauty and it s about how a king and queen have a child and they have
fairies give wishes to the child and there was one fairy who was forgotten and she decided to put a
curse on the child. She was jealous of the child s beauty and when the child turns 16 she has a spindle
and the girl pricks her finger while spinning it. She is put in a tower to wait for a true love s kiss to
awake her. It takes 100 years but a prince comes to the tower and kisses her and she wakes up.
A summary of these fairy tales, the real mothers have no sense of presence. The princes are always
right and they always win in the end. Ambitious women are ugly and evil. Good women are beautiful,

Bargaining Power of Suppliers and Buyers of Video Games
Bargaining power of suppliers: Hardware, game publisher, game developer
Bargaining power of buyers: there is a high power (82)
For the industry analysis, we are certain of sales since the PS4 is a consumer product particularly. For
that reason, the buyer has a high bargaining power on the product. The market for casual gamers has
increased seriously and sales increased after decreasing price of the PS3. Due to the uniqueness of
every video game console and the games buyers have bargaining power. A small difference might be
significance an extra hundred dollars for an intense gamer. People have more aware to the price
difference because they play video games more casually and as a result they have more bargaining
power. Buyers have a reasonable amount of power in the video game industry in particular with
Nintendo. Although Microsoft and Sony have other sources of revenues, the major source of income
comes from the sales of games and game consoles.
Bargaining power of suppliers: Hardware, game publisher, game developer (65)
In addition, Sony operates in the one business sector which is the computer entertainment industry.
Sony distributes and market PlayStation products including PS4, PS3, PS2, PSP and others accessories
and gaming equipment (IBISWorld, 2013). Thus, I believe there is a high power of suppliers on the
subject of hardware and accessories. We need to estimate the prices of the cost of hardware units that
we need to use. Since the productivity of IBMs Cell

Old People Chapter 2 Summary
The old man begins the session like previous others by depicting a scene, which will be explained at
the end of the lesson. This scene he describes is about Barak receiving instructions from Deborah. The
young girl is confused because she believed that all the judges were men, but the old man informs her
that some stories are told more than others. From this point, the old man tells the stories related to
Joshua and Caleb, the only two adults brought out of Egypt to enter into the promised land. Joshua
replaced Moses as the leader of the Israelites, and the old man begins to tell the story of Jericho. Two
spies were sent to spy on Jericho, and they stayed at a prostitute s home. Her name was Rahab, and

Joshua and Judges are associated with the Iron Age. Tensions during this period include invasions
from Sea Peoples. Tullock informs readers that Canaan consisted of city states. The next topic Tullock
discusses is the invasion of Canaan. Tullock discusses Joshua and the story of Jericho, and the old man
s story discusses the same points Tullock does. Tullock does introduce the significance of the holy war
associated with Jericho. The disguising Gibeonites are discussed on how they were saved by a
covenant by disguising and lying to the Israelites. Tullock ends the section of Joshua s conquests by
telling the story of the five kings of the south. The division of conquered lands is explained by
mentioning that territories were represented by the tribes responsible for the conquering. Tullock then
discusses how the Canaanite religion greatly influenced the developing Israelite religion, and a reason
for the influence is due to the greater population associated with the Canaanites. From this point on,
Tullock discusses the famous judges and the themes seen throughout the book of Judges. Tullock
states that the major judges include Othniel, Ehud, Deborah, Gideon, Abimelech, Jephthah, and
Samson. Each major judge receives their own section of text discussing the stories associated with
each of them. For example, Othniel provided forty

Canal Building before 1840 Essay
Canal Building before 1840: Essay
Throughout history, there has been a need for better mode of transportation in order to keep up with
economical growth. Canals have been around since the Ancient Roman Civilizations and still exist
today. Canals have been so important because they allow people to travel from one place to another
and back by way of water. They require very little energy and maintenance but help trade flow more
efficiently. This can be proved by observing the United States economy in the early 19th century. The
canal Era was a major influence in American History. Canal building was spurred by the
transportation revolution, which was from about 1815 to 1860. The transportation revolution greatly

It had paid off its seven million dollar debt by 1836. It made New York the biggest trade center in the
United States. Canal construction was being planned in every state east of the Mississippi River.
I have found a couple major interpretations of my subject. One of them is a book titled The
Transportation Frontier. This book contains everything there is to know about the Canal Era. It also
talks about how our major mode of transportation went from turnpikes to canals, and later, canals to
steamboats and railroads. One thing that this source talks about that very few do is the other canals
that were built after the Erie Canal as a result of its success. These canals include the Champlain canal,
the Union Canal, the Ohio Canal, the Pennsylvania Canal, and many more.
I feel that my topic was fine as far as restrictions go. I do think though that it should have been limited
to the Erie Canal only because that was by far the most important canal of the era. All of the sources I
found have contained the Erie Canal.
One thing wrong with my topic is that it is limited to canals before 1840. It should have been canal
building before 1860 since that is about when the Canal Era ended.
Another topic should have been the transportation revolution from 1815 to 1860. This would include
all of the canals built and it would also contain how road and bridge building would move onto canal
building. And it

Yue Fei A True Hero
Yue Fei is one of the most talked about Patriots in Chinese History. There are several Muggle
television shows and novels written about this famous patriot. He also has many temples dedicated to
his honor. He is one of the most venerated but tragic generals in Chinese history. People have
recognized this name for the last 800 years. The history of Yue Fei is still celebrated in China today.
Over the last 800 years, everyone knew of this famous patriot. Yue Fei did not kill his enemies in the
battlefield, nor did he die from horrible war injuries. Yue Fei died because he was too good at covering
his military enemies and failed to address his own political enemies at home. Yue Fei was a true hero
in my book because he stood up for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yue Fei was born on March 24, 1103, during the Southern Song Dynasty. Yue Fei s mother s name
was Lady Yue. Yue He was the father of Yue Fei. Yue Fei means to fly. At the time Yue Fei was born, a
large bird like a swan landed on the roof of his house (Wiki 1). Yue Fei was born near Tangyin County,
Anyang, China. Yue Fei had one brother known as Yue Fan. While Yue Fei was a small infant, an
immortal man known as Chen Tuan disguised himself as a wandering priest and visited his father. The
immortal man warned his father of a great flood that would kill the village. After the flood, most of the
villagers died. Yue He and his son Yue Fei did not die due to this warning. After the flood, the family
worked as farmers in the field to make a profit.
Yue Fei had a unique education. The immortal priest knew Yeu Fie s heritage. This family was not
ordinary. For this reason, he intervened with his safety. Yue Fei was a wizard. His father kept this
secret from him until he was mature. At the age of 11, his father decided to break the ice. Yue Fei was
very shocked to hear this wonderful news. He always knew that he was different than everyone else.
Since Yue Fei was magical, his father decided, that it was best to train him at home. He decided to hire

Message to Garcia Essay
A Message to Garcia by Elbert HUBBARD 1899 Apologia HORSE SENSE If you work for a man,
in Heaven s name work for him. If he pays wages that supply you your bread and butter, work for him,
speak well of him, think well of him, and stand by him, and stand by the institution he represents. I
think if I worked for a man, I would work for him. I would not work for him a part of his time, but all
of his time. I would give an undivided service or none. If put to the pinch, an ounce of loyalty is worth
a pound of cleverness. If you must vilify, condemn, and eternally disparage, why, resign your position,
and when you are outside, damn to your heart s content. But, I pray you, so long as you are a part of
an institution, do not condemn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initiative The world bestows its big prizes, both in money and in honors, for but one thing. And that is
Initiative. What is Initiative? I ll tell you: it is doing the right thing without being told. But next to
doing the thing without being told is to do it when you are told once. That is to say, carry the Message
to Garcia: those who can carry a message get high honors, but their pay is not always in proportion.
Next, there are those who never do a thing until they are told twice; such get no honors and small pay.
Next, there are those who do the right thing only when necessity kicks them from behind, and these
get indifference instead of honors, and a pittance for pay. This kind spends most of its time polishing a
bench with a hard luck story. Then, still lower down in the scale than this, we have fellow who will
not do the right thing even when some one goes along to show him how and stays to see that he does
it; he is always out of job, and receives the contempt he deserves, unless he happens to have a rich Pa,
in which case Destiny patiently awaits around a corner with a stuffed club. To which class do you
belong? 1899 A Message to Garcia By Elbert Hubbard In all this Cuban business there is one man

addition WJZ TV assigned her as a reporter covering tragedies. After this Oprah was placed to host
their talk show People Are Talking, to her this show was considered a demotion. People Are Talking
created a change for Oprah. She realized this is what she wanted to do all along. It allowed her to relax
and be herself. In a few years the shows popularity passed that of the Phil Donahue Show.
In 1984, Oprah took a risk at hosting a Chicago morning talk show. She received a $200,000 a year
salary and a four year unbreakable contract. Her show was groundbreaking . What made her show so
great was that she was able/unafraid to bare her soul and her past experiences in front of her audience
and guest where most talk show host will keep their personal lives private. Oprah spoke about
everything her experience with abuse, her obesity and her drug problems. Oprah deled with harsh
critics that could not accept that a big woman could be beautiful, intelligent, and vital.
Besides her wonderful title as queen of the daytime talk shows, Oprah has proven herself as an
outstanding actress. One of her first and best movies was The Color Purple. This movie created a lot
of controversy despite how well it was actually done. It was nominated for a grand total of eleven

Collecting Qualitative Data Paper
PART 1
Collecting Qualitative Data
Research truly is essential to the success of any marketing campaign or process and can greatly
contribute to the success of a product, service or brand in the marketplace. Market research can help to
determine risks and opportunities within the market, and can provide a greater depth of understanding
of consumers and the target audience. Market research helps to define and solve research problems
and this is extremely beneficial to any business or organisation (Burns Bush, 2003). By having
consumer insight because of market research, marketers are able to promote a product to the true
relevant target market, rather than wasting time and money promoting to the whole marketplace.
There are two main methods of market research, being qualitative research and quantitative research.
Both of these methods have benefits and can be used in conjunction, but for the best results one
method of data collection is often used. Quantitative data focuses on a numerical approach to data
collection via the use of statistics and information taken from surveys and census data. Qualitative
data however focuses on gathering information and exploratory research through observations and
interviews. The main approaches to collecting this type of data are experience or expert surveys, focus
groups, and in depth interviews (Diekroger, 2014).

  • 2. Human Response to Death in The Seventh Seal, by Ingmar... Living with Death In his film The Seventh Seal, Ingmar Bergman openly addresses the human response to death. The film documents the return of Antonius Block and his squire Jons to their homeland after their ten years of fighting in the Crusades. During their return journey to Antonius Block s castle, the characters encounter death in many forms, including the devastating plague afflicting the population and (even less subtly) Death personified in his classic black garb. Each of Block s and Jons confrontations with death provides opportunities for Bergman to display the different philosophies of death that he has intertwined with his characters. Through the manifestation of these philosophies, the audience is given a chance to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heidegger uses this disparity to describe how an authentic existence might be achieved. According to Jonathan Dollimore: Heidegger takes up an old idea that death is not the event which ends life but a profound reality which in forms it, and he seeks to take this truth so fully into our being that we are compelled to embrace authentic existence and leave the world of false sociableness (Dollimore 161 162) In other words, Heidegger suggests that people generally carry out their lives and behave according to the established social structures (i.e. the false sociableness mentioned by Dollimore or Heidegger s concept of the inauthentic existence). Constant awareness of the possibility of death would free the part of an individual that must be compromised in order to follow the established social conventions; Heidegger refers to this freedom as the authentic existence (Kraus 98). This facet of Heideggerian philosophy can be seen in The Seventh Seal as Block s encounter with Death allows him to pursue the authentic existence. As mentioned earlier, Antonius Block becomes the means by which Heidegger s authentic existence becomes actualized in the film. In the confessional scene, the film begins to develop this philosophy through the weary knight. Once willing to travel to distant lands and fight for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The concept behind the driverless car is pretty straight forward; commercial automobiles will be operated by computer software instead of humans. Large scale companies DHL will most likely be the first to introduce driverless fleets. According to a 2016 online article by the NPD Group, LLC, DHL, which have the ability to test driverless vehicles inside massive warehouses, port facilities and intermodal yards, thereby reducing the risk to human life while amassing data about the vehicles capabilities, ... • 5. Using Titanium Dioxide as Photocatalyst to Reduce Pollution Recent research shows that titanium dioxide can be used as a photocatalystic property to reduce pollutants. This was first discovered by Fujishima and Honda in 1972, where the photocatalystic properties of titanium dioxide were found to be applicable. It was shown that by converting ultraviolet light energy, this compound acts as a catalyst to produce hydroxyl in the presence of moisture in the air. Hydroxl then can oxidize and convert these harmful pollutants to HNO3. The reason that this is useful is because nitrogen oxide is a common pollutant which has many adverse effects to society. Nitrogen oxides may form into nitric acid which contributes to acid rain, and it also chemically reacts to sunlight and changes into ozone which additionally has many adverse health effects for living organisms and non living things alike. The health related issues are a major reason to reduce emissions of NOx because although health is important, money is an issue as well. In California an independent study conducted from 2005 to 2007 found that nearly 30,000 visits in the state were due to California failing to meet both federal and state standards for PM and ozone. This data comes from statistics of hospital reports for respiratory, cardiovascular, and asthma attacks. Even though the study estimates were on the conservative side, it was estimated that the cost of un attainment to the state between that 3 year periods was 193 million dollars. The purpose of this briefing note is to present recommendations regarding the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Canada, as there is a need for improved health and social support services. Social workers in particular have a crucial role in the resettlement and successful integration of Syrian refugees in Canada. Background Information and Summary of Key Points In response to the ongoing conflict in Syria, the Government of Canada, private sponsors and other organizations plan to resettle over 25,000 Syrian refugees (Government of Canada, 2016). Recommendations Improve access to information on how to navigate necessary health and social services. Offer health and social services in the client s own language, which may involve hiring Syrian refugees with lived experiences, interpreters, and/or cultural brokers. • 7. Rising Strong Sparknotes Book Assignment As I read Rising Strong by Brene Brown it really hit home with me. In her book she talks about something most people do not like to deal with, which is shame and being vulnerable. We all feel shame no matter who we are. Some people take it better than others do. Some people take their shame and burry it deep down inside them and others takes their shame and makes great success stories out of it. Brene Brown talks about how much she struggled with being vulnerable and how she dealt with it. She starts off her book with a long presentation of her book and how we can approach shame. She enlightens us that Rising Strong is regarding getting to the heart of the most excruciating and uncomfortable minutes we ve ever experienced, getting genuine about the path in which those moments have made us feel and being sufficiently striking to consider ourselves responsible to get up and develop from the past as we move into what more there is to come. She likewise focuses on that yes, most definitely, disappointment is excruciating, exceptionally difficult. Tragically be that as it may, the stories of battle to achievement that we re so regularly told do more than see their way through the pain and make their way to be success stories. Brown states that all we need are, a critical mass of bad asses who are willing to dare, fall, feel their way through tough emotion, and rise again (Brown, 2015, p. 30.) • 8. Disparities In US Birth Rates Of Hispanic Adolescents The main ethnic/racial groups affected by the health issue are non Hispanic African American females, Hispanic females, and Native Americans/Native Alaskans. There were key study findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that found that U.S. birth rates for adolescents vary considerably by race and Hispanic origin (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Thus, this provides even more clear evidence on the difference of ethnic/racial groups. Additionally, in 2008, the birth rate for Hispanic adolescents was approximately five times the rate for Asian/Pacific Islander adolescents, three times the rate for non Hispanic white adolescents, and somewhat higher than the rates for non Hispanic African American and Native American/Native Alaskan adolescents (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). This brings caution, as according to The Pew Charitable Trusts, although teen pregnancy and birth rates have declined over the past two decades, states still face the reality that African American and Latina teens are more than twice as likely as white teens to become pregnant (Wiltz, T. 2015). ... • 9. Suggested Strategy for Central High School Needs Assessment As chair of the committee charged with the recommendation for the purchase of new computer equipment, I will detail a suggested plan for this $50,000 project at Central High School. The high school has 1000 students in four grade levels (9th through 12th), and has approximately 60 and 20 supporting staff. An inventory of the computers at the whole school was conducted to understand what is currently available. There is currently one computer lab per grade level in the school with 22 computers each, allowing for each grade use of this for one period per day. There are also two computers in each classroom (one for student use, one for teacher use) as well as a bank of computers in the library. There are also individual computers for the guidance counselors, nurse, principals and assistant principals, and office staff. As the inventory was being done, a survey was passed out to all of the staff asking where the needs were greatest and what specific equipment was lacking. The overwhelming desire of the majority of the teachers was more computers in the individual classrooms, specifically in the math and science rooms as a lot of current information was required and there was a lot of competition for its use. There was a great desire to be flexible and move the computer from place to place, such that a laptop computer or tablet computer was preferred over a desktop. • 10. Gk Chesterton Maniac Summary Maniac , a chapter of Orthodoxy, was written by G.K. Chesterton to shine a light on the common man. To begin, he writes, reason used without root, reason in the void. The man who begins to think without the proper first principles goes mad... In this quote, Chesterton describes how difficult it is to think and interpret new information if you are not ready. He is explaining that if someone takes in too much information that is too advanced, they may not respond to it very well. For example, if someone was not taught how to do simple addition, how will they be able to subtract, multiply, or divide without becoming annoyed and giving up? One quote to describe this is, He has always had one foot in earth and the other in fairyland. It implies that the common man is content with seeing both worlds. Next, Chesterton uses the metaphor, He has permitted the twilight. This is describing that the mystic is allowing the unknown in his life. The common man understands that he does not know everything, and accepts it. This is what keeps him sane. He either does not want to learn everything, since it would make him unhappy, or he is not aware of his ignorance. He is able to acknowledge the paradox, and not question it. The people who choose to try and learn everything become insane. They are unable to fathom the horrors of the world and unwilling to accept the paradoxes. The choice of insanity is a decision that everyone needs to make at some point. To learn too much and be unhappy, or be naive to all of the dangers and threats of the world. Additionally, Chesterton writes about the morbid logicians. The morbid logicians are the teachers, authors, and artists of the world. Our POA was one of the very first community corporations in the State of Ohio. It differs from a condo association in that each home is a fee simple property and you own the inside, outside and the land surrounding your home. You are automatically a member of the POA when you buy a property in Windrush Creek POA and as such there are certain rules that apply to all properties in the association. Some of those rules are holdovers from the equestrian concept. Because there were bridle paths around, behind and between each property, no fences were allowed. This was a consonant song because it was very simple and easy to listen to. The next song His Little Feet sang was a very powerful one and gave me goosebumps. This song is a popular worship song and at the beginning of the song they asked everyone in the crowd to stand and worship with them. With everyone s voices together it was very intense and moving. This song was lyrical song and was homophonic. The group had dance moves to this song and when the sung angel armies they all stuck their little hands to the sky and belched out the lyrics. Sometimes we heard moans from the back room and I helped wring out cloths and Doris brought water in a glass held to her mother s lips (17 22) it is the first time we see the children in a serious manner as they take care of Doris s mother. While the war may be a faraway thought, Doris s mother having cancer directly affects the children and they have to deal with reality for a short time. As soon as Doris s mother can be left alone the children are able to return to their happy little world apart from the rest: But soon we were flipping through joke books, withering on the floor, war news shut off, back when we pretended all was continuous chuckles (23 25) . Here the author reveals that while the title of the poem may have been Back When All Was Continuous Chuckles the children were only pretending that it was a carefree time by using humor and jokes in everyday life to distract themselves from the terrible things going on around them. Inez ends the poem with these powerful lines, and we rode the bus past Greenfield s rise where stones, trumpeting angels, would bear names we later came to recognize (26 28) . The cemetery is mentioned again, this time in a graver tone. I found that on average Software Developers make $43,640 $101,410 annually. I then searched for information about the education and training that is beneficial to someone in this career. I found that a major in computer science or related subject would be the standard major for a Software Developer. I also found that math classes such as Calculus are beneficial to understanding software development. I then researched useful skills and traits of Software Developers. Some useful traits are creativity, problem solving, and a basic understanding of digital media. These traits contribute to the success of a developer. Native Americans have faced oppression, starvation, cultural backlashing, and were pushed to the very edge of extinction at the hands of colonial settlers. The indigenous culture was viewed as recessive and primitive. Americans considered themselves as the superior race and forcefully assimilated the indigenous people. American society almost succeeded in eradicating indigenous culture through assimilation and genocide, but indigenous people are an extremely proud and resilient people. Despite settler s society s effort to decimate the indigenous nations they have survived and are fighting to preserve their culture. European ideology and influence runs ramped and infringes on almost every aspect of daily life. • 20. Gender, Gender And Gender Bias Language and gender has become an increasingly popular topic of study over recent decades, most likely due to the second wave of feminism in the 1960s and 70s. This can also be seen in the fact that goals of linguistic studies shifted at this point, to not just look at grammatical differences between males and females but to examine sexism and gender bias in language. The wording of such studies becomes increasingly important in the modern era, as gender is now recognised as a socially constructed concept of masculine and feminine features, based on biological sex but not limited to that. Simone de Beauvoir (1952) believed that we gradually become more masculine or feminine but we are not inherently gendered. Language and gender was not developed as a serious subfield until the 1975 publication of Robin Lakoff s Language and Woman s Place. Lakoff argued that women use particular language features in order to deny themselves means of strong expression, which are stereotypically reserved for males. These features include shows of uncertainty, such as hedging and indirect requests. Indirect requests include making a statement in hope that it will elicit the desired response from someone else without openly asking. Women s speech seems... to contain more instances of well , y know ... words that convey the sense that the speaker is uncertain about what [she] is saying (Lakoff, 1975:53). Collecting Qualitative Data Paper PART 1 Collecting Qualitative Data Research truly is essential to the success of any marketing campaign or process and can greatly contribute to the success of a product, service or brand in the marketplace. Market research can help to determine risks and opportunities within the market, and can provide a greater depth of understanding of consumers and the target audience. Market research helps to define and solve research problems and this is extremely beneficial to any business or organisation (Burns Bush, 2003). By having consumer insight because of market research, marketers are able to promote a product to the true relevant target market, rather than wasting time and money promoting to the whole marketplace. There are two main methods of market research, being qualitative research and quantitative research. Both of these methods have benefits and can be used in conjunction, but for the best results one method of data collection is often used. Quantitative data focuses on a numerical approach to data collection via the use of statistics and information taken from surveys and census data. Qualitative data however focuses on gathering information and exploratory research through observations and interviews. The main approaches to collecting this type of data are experience or expert surveys, focus groups, and in depth interviews (Diekroger, 2014).
