Acceptance In Ask The Dust By Sixto Rodriguez
Acceptance, is a feeling desired by many people. Some may find it, some may live their life
pursuing it, it is a curse some may say some may find it a gift. A fictional character by the name
of Arturo Bandini, in the novel Ask the Dust, was a victim of this curse. He strives for the
acceptance in another dominant culture for personal recognition and end up losing what he had at
the beginning of his sorrowful journey. On the other hand, Sixto Rodriguez, well known as Sugar
man, desired acceptance from his inner self. He made his music to unveil the cruel reality of
Detroit, Michigan, and did not care about the popularity, as well as fame. His incentives were not
changed with the opinions of the society. Rodriguez made peace with his conscious... Show more

interpret this quote as in the desire of being recognized as a human being. The recognition, that
he fills a meaningful space in the society as a man because with recognition comes power, the
power every other Anglo American possessed in the United States from that period. Bandini did
not realize that no matter how good of a writer he becomes, his under looked race and superior
ideology of Anglo America would not consider him as a respectable writer. Bandini s hunger for
power and insecurities lead him losing the most meaningful thing in his life, Camila. Bandini
should have understood that he cannot find love in materialistic thing, but in Camila or Vera.
Some could say it was his immaturity, I believe it was pride. However, realizing in the end of the
novel, that trying to gain acceptance into the society was a worthless battle that only lead to pain.
Bandini lost identity, which he sold to Miss Hargraves, and lead to a domino effect a sorrowful.

Solid Stream Nozzle Research Paper
Kristen Gordon English 101 Mr. Bliss September 20,2015 The fire service is full of tradition and
has been that way since the very beginning of it time. It has always been a challenge when trying
to implement new technology, ideas or ways of acting. For a long time in this history, firefighters
have used a solid stream nozzle at the end of a hose line. In 1968, the fog nozzle was invented
and a struggle between the old and a new began. Although there are benefits to both nozzles, the
capabilities of the fog nozzle make it clear that it is the better choice. The solid stream nozzle
discharges a solid, unbroken stream of water. This happens because of the construction of the
nozzle, which is simply a wider opening at the connection to

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Humane Society Of The United...
The Humane Society of the United States, HSUS, has released many commercials to show the
terrible conditions that some animals are subject to live in. These commercials also promote the
need for people to adopt from shelters, and give these animals a second chance at a better life.
This commercial in particular shows singer, and 3rd place contestant on The Voice , Christina
Grimmie, playing the piano, and singing her version of Bonnie Tyler s Holding Out for a Hero .
As she sings, many pictures and videos of animals being rescued from their terrible conditions play
on a screen behind her. This commercial definitely pulls on the heart strings of animal lovers by
using the rhetoricdevices of ethos, pathos, and logos in a very subtle, yet precise way. The first use
of rhetoric that is seen is at the start of the commercial. The commercial opens by simply showing
the symbol for the Humane Societyof the United States, which is the shape of the United States
made up of animals. It then shows the animals being rescued by the teams of people that work
for the HSUS. Every worker is wearing a shirt with the HSUS logo on it. Opening up with their
symbol, and showing the pictures and videos of the recues with workers wearing HSUS attire
establishes their good use of ethos. When a person watches this commercial, they see that the
Humane Society of the United States is an organization that is built around the belief that animals
want, and need to be cared for and loved. It

Strong Interest Inventory Of A Career Assessment
Strong Interest Inventory Evaluation The Strong Interest Inventory is a career assessment that
began as the Strong Campbell Interest Inventory in 1927 and was developed by E.K. Strong Jr.
(Blackwell Case, 2008). It was created from the observations that were made of the interests of
workers in varying careers (Yazak, 2014). From such observations, Strong believed that individuals
who have interest that are similar to those of people in a particular career tend to experience
greater satisfaction if they work in that area than if they enter an occupation with people of
dissimilar interests (Yazak, 2014). Test Coverage and Use The Strong Interest Inventory includes
291 items that are meant to measure an individual s interests in many different areas including their
hobbies and compares the interests of workers in 130 occupations (Blackwell Case, 2008). This
inventory may be taken by individuals starting at the age of thirteen and going on through
adulthood given that it meant to help individuals get a better picture of occupations that might fit
best for them. There are a total of four categories of scales in the Strong Interest Inventory including
the General Occupational Themes, Basic Interest Scales, Personal Style Scales, and Occupational
Scales (Herk Thompson, 2011). The General Occupational Themes addresses an individual s
interest s, skills, and values in six themes including realistic, investigative, artistic, social,
enterprising, and conventional (Herk

Social Conflict In Shantata ! The Court Is In Session
Shantata! Court Chalu Ahe (Silence! The Court is in Session, 1967) was his first play in which
he marked out as a rebel against the established values of the society. This play combines social
criticism with the tragedy of an individual victimized by society. The play represents the mental
conflict of the protagonist, Miss Leela Benare who appears during the mock trial as an accused.
The plot of the play revolves round the trial of Miss Benare. Her role eclipses the roles of her male
counterparts. In love, she is cheated twice; first by her maternal uncle and later by Prof. Damle, her
loving companion. However, in the first event, the guilt passes unnoticed and hence, unpunished.

the incident in the play is historical but the way in which it is treated renders it universal.

In A Friend s Story (1981), Tendulkar uses his pen to investigate the crisis of the community of

The Confederate Of Hypocrites Character Analysis
The Confederacy of Hypocrites John Kennedy Toole killed himself after his book, The
Confederacy of Dunces, was rejected by a number of publishers. It wasn t until after he died that
the book came to Walker Percy, who pushed for its publication. In the foreword for the book,
Percy calls the book sad, he says one never quite knows where the sadness comes from from the
tragedy at the heart of Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventures or the tragedy
attending the book itself (Percy ix). Though not obvious, the book offers evidence to suggest that
the sadness does have a root in Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventure[s] and has
nothing to do with the author s suicide, as tragic as that may be. The book is a critique of ordinary
society s shortcomings but subsequently offers no solution or example of redemption. Toole s main
tool for conveying his critique is through his main character, Ignatius J. Reilly, a pretentious, lazy,
slob, whom stumbles from page to page in the book centering the entire plot around his grotesque
self. Through the characterization of Ignatius and his interactions with society around him, The
Confederacy illustrates a phenomenon in which people s outward judgements become... Show more

Neutrinos Research Paper
Recently, scientists found the first known evidence of oscillating neutrinos, and have come to
believe that they re getting very close to understanding these bizarre particles.
FERMILAB LAUNCHES NEUTRINOS FARTHER
This scientific advancement is the result of Fermilab s ongoing NOvA experiment, which hopes to
uncover the secrets of those elusive particles called neutrinos. The study released its final results
earlier this week. The experiment s gigantic particle detector is capable of detecting neutrinos fired
from an impressive 500 miles distance, but the scientists are having a hard time forming significant
conclusions from this recent success. It s incumbent for these quantum physicists to progress their
theories because to understand which neutrinos are heavier or lighter will help us construct theories
about how these particles accumulate mass. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Department of Energy s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. For all the people who worked
over the course of a decade on the designing, building, commissioning and operating this
experiment, it s beyond gratifying.
FERMILAB S EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
In order to detect these far flung neutrinos, Fermilab s neutrino beam uses an underground detector
capable of measuring the neutrino composition of each shot. After being fired, the neutrinos
oscillate 500 miles through the Earth s crust. When one of the neutrinos collides with one of the
atoms in the detector, a signature trail of particles and light is released which is used to identify the
neutrino as an electron, muon or tau. Most neutrinos shot out of Fermilab are composed of muons,
but because of this experimental method, scientists can actually infer how many are transform in
transit from muon to electron.

Women in World War II Essay
Women in World War II During World War II Hitler was skulking around Europe pretending to
save Germany, military minds in Washington were stonewalling women s organizations, patriotic
pressures, and anyone who had the temerity to suggest that women should be in the military. The
politicians, in typical gerrymandering fashion, made flimsy promises of considering an auxiliary
of sorts while quietly hoping it would all go away and secretly trying to figure out how to stop it.
Fortunately Congresswoman Edith Nourse Rogers and Eleanor Roosevelt thought otherwise.
Congresswoman Rogers introduced a bill on May 28 th, 1941, to establish a Women s Army

Lactose Intolerance
Lactose intolerant individuals experience many uncomfortable symptoms after consumption of
lactose containing foods. This discomfort is largely due to a shortage or an absence of the
digestive enzyme lactase. Lactase is an enzyme located on the brush border of mucosal cells in the
small intestine (Stanfield, 2011). Normally, lactose is hydrolyzed by this enzymeand end products,
glucose and galactose, are readily absorbed into the bloodstream (Lomer, Parkes, Sanderson, 2008).

Students And Athletes Athletes
Ambidexterity Amongst Students and Athletes MATH 141 (Prof. An) Final Project December
2015 Romeo Ardimento, Lorraine Jabouin, Christopher Kremer, Fiona Macleod Introduction
/Background Being Ambidextrous can be quite useful; particularly for athletes and musicians.
Many sports require the use of both hands, as do many instruments. For this reason our team
decided to determine the difference in ambidexterity, if any, between people who are either
athletes or musicians, and individuals who are not involved in either sports or music. We were
interested in determining if the ability of participants to use their weak hand as well as their
dominant hand is associated with participation in athletics or music. Does an individual s
participation in either a sport or the fact that they play a musical instrument dictate how well they
can use both hands? Methodology We decided that the best way to answer this question would be
with a study. Our participants would be made up of 60 students. These participants would be
made up of three equally divided identity groups. 20 athletes, 20 musicians, and 20 individuals
who do not participate in sports or play an instrument (who from this point on will be referred to as
the neither group). Those identified as athletes had to have had been on a Varsity team and those
who were identified as musicians had to have been playing their instrument for more than two
years. Individuals who fell into both categories were excluded. Participants were

comparing emerson and dickinson Essay
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson were two of America s most intriguing poets. They
were both drawn to the transcendentalist movement which taught unison of creation, the
righteousness of humanity, and the preeminence of insight over logic and reason (Woodberry 113).
This movement also taught them to reject religious authority(Sherwood 66). By this declination of
authority, they were able to express their individuality. It is through their acceptance of this
individuality that will illustrate their ambiguities in their faith in God.

In the first stanza she simply states that just because one can t see or have never seen something
doesn t mean that it can t or doesn t exist. That being said, Dickinson then says that she has not
ever spoken with God or visited heaven in the third pair of lines (Dickinson 1273). The final set
of lines says that she is certain of the spot (Dickinson 1273). This second stanza clearly confirms
that she is confident of her place in heaven. Dickinson believes in all of these things even though
she hasn t observed any of them. (Benfey 25) This particular poem shows of her assurance of God
and heaven.
On the contrary, the poem I know That He Exists distinctly shows her uncertainty between her
belief and disbelief in God. (Dickinson 1262) The first stanza begins with a relatively strong
declaration of her faith. She knows that there is a God and that in some way, for whatever
reasons, he has hid himself from our gross eye (Dickinson 1262). In the second stanza, she
insinuates that he plays game with us just to gain our admiration for him. She starts to be
troubled by this hide and seek game in the third stanza. (Ferlazzo 32) She implies, between the
middle of the third stanza and all of the fourth that if there is no sort of deliverance after death, God
would have just played a really wicked joke on all of us.

Analysis Of Vasari s The Multivalent Themes And...
The multivalent themes and leitmotifs with which Vasari regales his readers the major and minor
artists, the diligent and the delinquent, the inventive and imitative, the mentors and apprentices,
the fathers and sons, and the mothers, wives and daughters bring the history of Italian
Renaissance art to life in his monumental text. In order for us to understand the purpose of the
preface pages, it is important first to consider the purpose of Vasari s text as a whole. Vasari was
himself a notable artist and architect, however he made it his eventual duty to recognise the
importance of artists in the historical timeline. More significantly, he would endeavour to
distinguish between the good, the better and the best and how their stylistic methods are
indicative of an artist s ability. In his prefaces he relays to his readers the immense body of work
he tasked himself with, how artists were gifted or strived for their art, were innovators or followers,
and how their perception as craftsmen or academics changed, all this in an attempt to educate those
who wanted to learn about the story of art. Vasari divides his Vite into three parts spanning a period

Dynamic Character In Jeanne Duprau s The City Of Ember
After reading The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, I ve learned that Lina Mayfleet (who is the
main character) is a dynamic character. At the beginning of the book, she is determined.
Eventually, the character becomes curious and adventurous. Here are some actions and dialogue
to prove her character traits. First, I have learned that Lina Mayfleet is determined by her actions.
This tells me she is not afraid to let someone down. Three supporting actions to prove this is Lina
is determined to do her job, to make sure her little sister Poppy is in reach, and she s determined to
find out what the letter said (because she deciphered the letter). Next, I have learned that Lina
Mayfleet is curious through her dialogue.

Introduction to Geography-Montessori
Introduction to Geography
The world is getting smaller, we now live in a global village due to our enlarged technical skills.
It is today as easy to fly from eg. Dublin to Rome as it was to travel from Dublin to Cork 150
years ago, Not to mention flights to the moon back. Geography has turned out to be the study of
man in space. Between mass media and frequent travel the child is bombarded with impressions
about the planet he lives on. In today s world the child hears random words, names of countries
with upheavels and wars they get scared. They really need to know where they are, even on a
larger scale. It is better to understand that a lot of things happen far away and not in my
neighbourhood. This will give them some sense of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Comparison of Oedipus and Odysseus Essay
Similarities Between Oedipus and Odyssues
Since the beginning of time epic tales have been passed on from generation to generation as a form
of entertainment. Even though each epic is different in its plot, every epic has certain features in
common. The prime example of their similarities is their main character, the hero of the epic. The
hero s behavior changes from the beginning to the end of the tale. Since the plot revolves around
the epic hero, in most cases, they are made to seem God like, or larger then life, in their capabilities
and strengths. The hero constantly has to conquer major obstacles to achieve their initial and final
goal. Usually the hero is tremendously suspicious of other characters intensions. ... Show more

Oedipus and Odysseus are both considered heroes. They are extremely similar in their actions
as well as their personalities. For example, Oedipus and Odysseus are both extremely suspicious
of others for fear of their own lives. Their suspicious nature is not unprovoked. When Odysseus
visits Hades, Agamemnon tells him, Never be too trustful even of your wife, nor show her all
that is in your mind (Homer 172). Agamemnon had lost his life by the hand of his own wife,
Clytemnestra. In the Greek story, Agamemnon, written by Aeschylus, after Clytemnestra murders
Agamemnon she says, ...I feel no shame...for me, I have had long enough to prepare this wrestle
victory, it has come at last (Aeschylus 44). Clytemnestra was happy that her premeditated
murder of her husband succeeded. Agamemnon does not want Odysseus to face the same
consequences he faced. Odysseus is following this advice even before Agamemnon gave it to
him. Odysseus never told a stranger who he really was. He always made up a story of where he
was from and who is. Then he would bring up the name Odysseus to see what they really thought
of him. He did not want to put himself in danger if the person did not like him. When he returns to
Ithaca he also did this to his wife, Penelope. Athena turned him into a beggar. Penelope approached
him in this form and asked about her distant husband. When Odysseus said, He is still alive, a tear

Suicidal Thoughts In America
Have you ever been bullied or had suicidal thoughts? There is one death by suicide in the world
every forty seconds. America was forever changed when social media was invented because people
use it wrongly and bully others.
A bully is someone who uses superior strength or influence to intimidate someone typically to force
him or her to do what one wants. Depression is feelings of severe hopelessness and downhearted.
Suicide is the act or instance of taking one s life voluntarily and intentionally. Suicides are lowest

Descartes Arguments For The Mind Body Problem
The mind body problem can be understood in the following way, there is something it is like to
be and this being is by its nature subjective and an organism has conscious metal states only if
there is something it is like to be that organism. This indeed seems to be incredibly perplexing to
explain in terms of science because science the way it is practiced currently only explains
phenomena objectively, either it tries to reduce and explain the subjective in terms of objective
processes or only makes co relation of the subjective processes to the objective processes but if it
only makes co relation then it is not able to explain the subjective itself. For example take the

This idea was first pointed to as far back as Thomas Hobbes and Pierre Gassendi, they both made
claims which now would be understood as mind/brain identity theory (R 39). However it wasn t
till the mid nineteen hundreds this claim was systematically fleshed out by a group of Australian
philosophers which included J.J.C Smart. Smart gives the following analogy to make the
argument clear, mental states are identical to brain states in the same way water in identical to
H2O or lightning is identical to atmospheric electrical discharge. To further clarify the argument
we will explain the important distinction between token and types. Imagine that there are four
German Shepard s playing in the park, in this case we have four tokens of the type German
Shepard. The tokens are the individual dogs and the type is the kind or class they belong to. The
German Shepherds also belong to many other types for example, mammals, animals, material,
object, etc. Now that we have the distinction between tokens and types clear we can further
proceed and explain token identity and type identity. Take for example Superman and Clark Kent
are the same person so if were to be invited to a party by Clerk Kent you are simultaneously invited
to the party by Superman. Thus Clerk Kent and Superman being the same person are token identical.

The Death Of Snow
Lying in a disturbed patch of snow, curled up against a nearby tree as the twisted wreckage of a
car sat smoldering nearby is a slim wolf, in his early twenties. He sat motionless, the heavy
flakes of snow falling around him being the only source of motion, before a series of coughs
disturbed the scene. He squirmed to rest on all fours, retching in the snow, whatever food he had
in his stomach now mixed with the snow and ice on the ground. After the fit passed, he leaned
back against the tree with a few light coughs, wiping his muzzle with the torn sleeve of his
sweater, a few flecks of vomit catching on the fabric.
The caustic taste of bile in his throat, the young wolf let a groan escape his lips, his body riddled
with aches. Holding onto the tree for support, he rose on unsteady legs, swaying heavily. Taking

Major General Burnside s Defeat
Essential Elements/Causes of Defeat Major General Burnside s failure at the Battle of
Fredericksburg could initially be attributed to the army not receiving the pontoon bridges in time
to cross the river and sustain the army s momentum. However, MG Burnside s bigger issue can be
linked back to his lack of mission planning. The issue of not receiving the pontoon bridges relates
directly to the lack of Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB). During IPB, the battlefield
environment is defined, battlefield effects are described, the threat is evaluated, and threat courses
of action are determined (Headquarters, Department of the Army, 1994). If MG Burnside had taken

If the pontoon bridges needed by the Union Army had arrived on time maybe that would have
altered the course of the battle. General Lee would not have had the time to dig in on the high
ground surround Fredericksburg. The battle would have played out differently in that scenario. Or,
If General Lee had seen the number of Union Troops around Falmouth maybe he would have
decided that Fredericksburg was indefensible, using only delaying tactics against the Union forces,
while continuing with his plan of stopping the Union Army further south along the more defensible
North Anna River, but closer to Richmond. The other option from MG Hooker was to have
crossed the Rappahannock River upstream or further downstream. The upstream option would have
been better courses of action for that time of year, but a longer trip to Richmond. In my opinion
upon the arrival of the Union forces in Falmouth and no pontoon bridges available, MG Burnside
should have been open to the idea MG Edwin Sumner of continuing to cross the Rappahannock
River still in pursuit of the enemy. MG Sumner s men would have been a good source of
intelligence after they secured the high ground around Fredericksburg and waited for the remaining
forces to ford the river and then regroup and then continue moving south towards Richmond. This
would have meant that

British Electoral System
The maturity of the political system in Britain has gradually shaped the British community.
Britain at present is considered to be a Liberal Democratic state and one main component is the
capacity of the government to conduct an election to allow the people to voice their needs in the

A pressure announced on the weather forecast of 29.92 is an average measurement. It is measured
with a barometer and in the United States the units of measure are inches of mercury, or inHg. This
is what meteorologist are referring to in their forecasts. 29.92 inHg is a measurement within the

4. Explain why it is much more difficult to measure snowfall amount than rainfall amount.
Rain is measured by the amount of liquid contained in the measurement device. Whatever is
amount of liquid is in the device, is the measurement. However snow, has various factors that can
impact its measurement. First of all snowfall measurement is based on how much liquid there
would be if the snow was melted into liquid form. There are several factors that can impact how
much snow is measured in a device. Wind can move snow from high points to low points and
vice versa. The surface on which the snow is falling onto can also impact a measurement. The
length of time the snow has been on the ground and how compact it is can also effect
measurements. Measuring in several places and then using an average can give a more accurate
total. Meteorologists usually forecast snow amounts giving a range of totals due to these factors
which make it challenging to give an exact forecast.

Reflection On Clinical Evaluation
This semester, through the use of clinical evaluation, I have learned how to be a better clinician.
To clarify, I have learned how to evaluate the interventions, measurement choices, implementation
of interventions and data collection process I practice with my clients to better understand how
my clients are responding to therapeutic treatment. The first experience with regards to clinical

order to better understand my positionality with clinical evaluation it is important to know that
this school year, I am interning with Henry Ittleson Center as a day treatment therapist. Henry

apprehension moments I encountered when completing my immersion report such as
frustrations I faced with my agencies limited objectives/goals selection, frustrations with

clinical evaluation formally began when asked to complete section one of the immersion report,
which includes brief synopsis of client, target problem, goals and objectives. Initially, I found it
quite easy to list out the target problem, goals and objectives because in essence, I was taking
this information straight from the data base system we use in the agency to file our reports.
However, as I started to reflect on this process with my immersion partner, I realized that I was
not required or expected by my agency to ask my client or my client s family what they wanted
me to identify as my client s goals and objectives for the year. As I went back into the system, I
recognized that all the objectives and goals available on the AVATAR (system we use to keep our

Synthesis Essay On Fast Food
Over the past few decades obesity levels in the world have risen. This is largely due to the lack
of exercise as technology has become more prevalent and increasingly poor diets because
unhealthy food is cheaper and more convenient. One way to help solve the obesity crisis would
be to implement a fat tax in the United States like other countries have so that fatty foods would
no longer be a cheaper option and families would be encouraged to eat healthier. Although food is
not the only cause of obesity and fat taxes would cost companies and consumers more money
(OPP), taxing soda alone can help take enough sugar out of children s diets to set them on a healthy
path for life and when combined with overall better diets can transform American... Show more

Adults on average need to consume about 2000 calories a day to maintain good health; however,
many people of all ages are ingesting far more calories than they need. The most threatening
aspect of America s excessive calorie intake is the effect it is having on children. According to
source B a third of children aged two to fifteen are already overweight. This is dangerous because
obesity leads to more health conditions and all this sugary intake is quickly weakening America.
One can of soda has between thirty three and thirty five grams of sugar per serving which is
more than a child s recommended total daily intake (Source A). Taking soda out of American s
diets or at least dramatically reducing it can help begin to reduce the obesity problem in America.
In source C, Thomas Isaac says, the fight against fat has just begun which applies to this proposed
tax on soda. Soda contributes large amounts to unhealthy habits and now is the time to act.
Instituting a fat tax in the United States is important because worldwide obesity levels are rising. If
obesity levels continue to rise as they are predicted to the future of humanity is at risk. The damage
being overweight does to the human body is reason enough want to reverse the trends. There are so
many opportunities in the world and everyone should have the opportunity to live up to their
potential but by continuing these bad habits

Polar Bear Population Analysis
The current management plans for conservation of polar bears appear to be a concerted effort to
protect the species. However, the effectiveness on a global scale is uncertain as to whether
diminishing habitats will wreak havoc on the polar bear populations in the future. The international
agreements and treaties are important as they recognize common goals and strategies given the
multiple nations involved. Most of these agreements are decades old and do not sufficiently protect
polar bearpopulations that much. They have been important in creating a framework of hunting and
developing restrictions for many of the nations, but there is no clear mechanism to enforce these
agreements. As stated before, the greatest threat to polar bearpopulations... Show more content on

To be effective, these agreements should include an effective form of enforcement, such as an
organizational enforcement authority made up of members from all five nations that have
jurisdictional authority over polar bear preservation. Perhaps something similar to Interpol, but for
wildlife conservation and works directly with governmental enforcement agencies. Such an
international agency could also be used for other conservation efforts for other endangered or
threatened species.
Other components of new international agreements should also address the chief concern for polar
bears. Perhaps this can be another mechanism to assist in promoting the reduction of emissions and
rallying enhanced scientific research objectives to pursue alternative energies between the five
Arctic nations. However, environmental changes affecting the Arctic are not expected to stop in
the immediate future and are fixed for several decades regardless of reductions in emissions and
polar bears must prepare to deal with habitat loss (Laidre, et al., 2015). The sovereignty issue over
potential resources after the ice melts should also be an integral part of these new international
agreements. There should be discussion over restricted industrial development and shipping routes
that may affect polar bears for the future habitat structure of the Arctic

Why Was Apollo 13 Success
Have you ever dreamed of going to space, or walking on the moon? Commander Jim Lovell and
officers Fred Haise and Jack Swigert did that exact thing. They were the astronauts that went on a
moon landing mission aboard Apollo 13. Many people believe that Apollo 13 was a failed
mission, since the spacecraft had an explosion and they had to go straight home. Although, many
other people believe that it was one of NASA s greatest successes. Apollo 13was truly one of
NASA s greatest successes. The first reason Apollo 13 was one of NASA s greatest successes
because they had many problems after the explosion and all of the problems got solved. One of
their first problems they had was the oxygen and power draining out fast. They had no way to gain

However, their mission was a success because the three astronauts got back safely which was a
help from their teamwork. Even if their original mission failed didn t mean that their new mission
to keep the astronauts safe did fail. The astronauts came up with creative solutions to solve the big
problem which was getting the astronauts home. According to Apollo 13 Astronauts Share
Surprises From Their Successful Failure Mission Jim Haise once said, There s no question it was
a remarkable recovery from a bad situation. They used teamwork and hard work to get to Earth.
They had to make sure they didn t mess up and they had to have a lot of precision and quick
thinking. This all led to them solving their unexpected mission. Even though the original mission to
the moon didn t go as well they worked very hard and they completed their unexpected mission of
getting the astronauts home to Earth safely. Apollo 13 was one of NASA s greatest successes for
many reasons. The first reason is because they had many problem after the explosion and they all
got solved. They second reason is that it was a true test of their capabilities and it showed amazing
teamwork. Lastly, they successfully got the astronauts back to Earth safe and sound. So Apollo 13
showed everyone that no matter what problem with teamwork, hard work, and persistence you can

Anabolic Steroids Research Paper
Legalization of Anabolic Steroids
As more and more people misuse and become harmed by the drugs of anabolic steroids, popular
belief starts to create a stronger negative emotional reaction towards it. In time, regulation of
anabolic steroids should become legalized for recreational and professional uses because it
encourages not only performance increases, but can also spark more scientific studies to understand
the effects of steroids under a controlled dosage and quality. When an individual hears the word
steroid they immediately think of; roid rage, individuals that are massive with incredible strength,
and even the decrease in testicle size in males from the use. It sounds disheartening and negative,

The Role Of Choice In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The Threat and Prestige of Choice Mankind has assumed the role of Godlike power that was
once left in the hand of deities. As a soldier walks onto a battlefield the power that he holds is in
the barrel of the gun. He makes the decisions whether to pull the trigger or not. He makes his
way towards the enemy s base and sees a target. He fires. The power that that soldier had was
once only associated with God. That God has the ability to bring people into this Earth as well as
to take people from it. With mankind s divine powers comes great responsibility. This is what
John Steinbeck is emphasizing in his 1962 Nobel Prize speech. He believes that because human s

This decision that George has to make is not one he wants to do, but one he has to do. While in
hiding George contemplates, And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the
muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie s head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his
hand steadied. He pulled the trigger (Steinbeck 106). This quote relates to Steinbeck s nobel
speech because they both relate to the idea that choice is a pain and a virtue. As Steinbeck states
in his speech, The danger and glory and the choice rest finally in man. The test of his
perfectibility is at hand. Having taken Godlike powers, we must seek in ourselves for the
responsibility and the wisdom we once prayed for some deity might have (John Steinbeck
Banquet Speech). This quote from Steinbeck s speech and the quote from Of Mice and Men are
linked through the idea that choice is both a pain and a virtue, and that with choice comes
responsibility and wisdom. George s decision to shoot Lennie is a test of perfectibility in George
s morals if killing Lennie is the right or wrong thing. George is taking Godlike powers as he
contemplates whether to take George from this world.

Aloe Ver The First Thing Most Of Us
Aloe vera, Latin name Aloe barbadensis, is likely the first thing most of us reach for when we
arrive home from an enjoyable day in the summer with a sunburn. However, Aloe vera has far more
uses then just to relieve pain from minor burns, it has been, and continues to be a valuable
horticultural crop. Aloe verais a plant that is propagated through various means, be it vegetatively,
asexually, or even through the use of microproagation. Though, not all these methods of
propagation are a successful as the others. It is important to first examine the plant itself, before
even considering methods of propagation. Initially individual plants start more or less as a
rosette and sucker and elongate slightly in height to form a spready mound 1 to 3 tall; plants
are medium coarse to coarse in texture (Arnold, M., 2008). The form of the Aloe vera plant is
likely very recognizable to anyone who has spent a significant amount of time in Texas, or other
states within the Southwest, Aloe vera has short stout stems suckering at the base to form
colonies of thickened, erect, sword like leaves (Arnold, M., 2008). Though we do typically see
this plant grown widely throughout our region, it likely calls another, larger continent home.
Thought to be native to North Africa, it is widely naturalized in South and Central America as
well as the Mediterranean region it is widely planted in South Texas and Mexico (Arnold, M.,
2008). While we do see the Aloe vera plant widely within our USDA

The Start Of Hip Hop
The start of hip hop began as creative lyrics. Young urban youth expressing themselves creatively
through rhymes spoken to music. A time when groups gathered and had a good time with no
fear of violence erupting. However as hip hop evolved, the lyrics changed and it began to take a
turn for the worse. The lyrics are no longer a positive outlet to express the problems the youth
face, it is no longer a compelling distraction from the turmoil of inner city life (Green 47). Rap
has a huge following among youth no matter their socio economic background. Rap can and has
influenced America s cultures in a lot of ways. The lyrics of some rap songs are very
controversial and can contain some very vulgar language and attitudes. Even though hip hop
began as an outlet for urban youth to voice their opinions about the world they experienced, its
artist s choice of words have become so explicit in such a way that it has begun to have the

Death Penalty In Texas
The death penalty is the punishment of execution. The death penalty was authorized by 32 states,
the Federal Government, and the U.S. Military. Throughout the years, the method of the death
penalty has changed. Not only has the way it is performed been altered, but also the way our
presidential candidates view the death penalty. For example, when George Bush was governor of
Texas in the 1990s, he approved executions. He sent some to death who might have been
innocent. Death sentences in Texas have dropped nearly 80% since 1999. In 1977, Oklahoma
became the first state to adopt lethal injection as a form of execution. Lethal injection is the
primary method used. On December 2, 1982, Charles Brooks became the first person executed

  • 2. Acceptance In Ask The Dust By Sixto Rodriguez Acceptance, is a feeling desired by many people. Some may find it, some may live their life pursuing it, it is a curse some may say some may find it a gift. A fictional character by the name of Arturo Bandini, in the novel Ask the Dust, was a victim of this curse. He strives for the acceptance in another dominant culture for personal recognition and end up losing what he had at the beginning of his sorrowful journey. On the other hand, Sixto Rodriguez, well known as Sugar man, desired acceptance from his inner self. He made his music to unveil the cruel reality of Detroit, Michigan, and did not care about the popularity, as well as fame. His incentives were not changed with the opinions of the society. Rodriguez made peace with his conscious... (Ask the Dust, 13), I interpret this quote as in the desire of being recognized as a human being. The recognition, that he fills a meaningful space in the society as a man because with recognition comes power, the power every other Anglo American possessed in the United States from that period. Bandini did not realize that no matter how good of a writer he becomes, his under looked race and superior ideology of Anglo America would not consider him as a respectable writer. Bandini s hunger for power and insecurities lead him losing the most meaningful thing in his life, Camila. Bandini should have understood that he cannot find love in materialistic thing, but in Camila or Vera. Some could say it was his immaturity, I believe it was pride. However, realizing in the end of the novel, that trying to gain acceptance into the society was a worthless battle that only lead to pain. Bandini lost identity, which he sold to Miss Hargraves, and lead to a domino effect a sorrowful. However, Rodriguez lived a very interesting life, and taught me a very valuable lesson. • 3. Solid Stream Nozzle Research Paper Kristen Gordon English 101 Mr. Bliss September 20,2015 The fire service is full of tradition and has been that way since the very beginning of it time. It has always been a challenge when trying to implement new technology, ideas or ways of acting. For a long time in this history, firefighters have used a solid stream nozzle at the end of a hose line. In 1968, the fog nozzle was invented and a struggle between the old and a new began. Although there are benefits to both nozzles, the capabilities of the fog nozzle make it clear that it is the better choice. The solid stream nozzle discharges a solid, unbroken stream of water. This happens because of the construction of the nozzle, which is simply a wider opening at the connection to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Humane Society Of The United... The Humane Society of the United States, HSUS, has released many commercials to show the terrible conditions that some animals are subject to live in. These commercials also promote the need for people to adopt from shelters, and give these animals a second chance at a better life. This commercial in particular shows singer, and 3rd place contestant on The Voice , Christina Grimmie, playing the piano, and singing her version of Bonnie Tyler s Holding Out for a Hero . As she sings, many pictures and videos of animals being rescued from their terrible conditions play on a screen behind her. This commercial definitely pulls on the heart strings of animal lovers by using the rhetoricdevices of ethos, pathos, and logos in a very subtle, yet precise way. The first use of rhetoric that is seen is at the start of the commercial. The commercial opens by simply showing the symbol for the Humane Societyof the United States, which is the shape of the United States made up of animals. It then shows the animals being rescued by the teams of people that work for the HSUS. Every worker is wearing a shirt with the HSUS logo on it. Opening up with their symbol, and showing the pictures and videos of the recues with workers wearing HSUS attire establishes their good use of ethos. When a person watches this commercial, they see that the Humane Society of the United States is an organization that is built around the belief that animals want, and need to be cared for and loved. • 5. Strong Interest Inventory Of A Career Assessment Strong Interest Inventory Evaluation The Strong Interest Inventory is a career assessment that began as the Strong Campbell Interest Inventory in 1927 and was developed by E.K. Strong Jr. (Blackwell Case, 2008). It was created from the observations that were made of the interests of workers in varying careers (Yazak, 2014). From such observations, Strong believed that individuals who have interest that are similar to those of people in a particular career tend to experience greater satisfaction if they work in that area than if they enter an occupation with people of dissimilar interests (Yazak, 2014). Test Coverage and Use The Strong Interest Inventory includes 291 items that are meant to measure an individual s interests in many different areas including their hobbies and compares the interests of workers in 130 occupations (Blackwell Case, 2008). This inventory may be taken by individuals starting at the age of thirteen and going on through adulthood given that it meant to help individuals get a better picture of occupations that might fit best for them. There are a total of four categories of scales in the Strong Interest Inventory including the General Occupational Themes, Basic Interest Scales, Personal Style Scales, and Occupational Scales (Herk Thompson, 2011). The General Occupational Themes addresses an individual s interest s, skills, and values in six themes including realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional (Herk ... The Court is in Session, 1967) was his first play in which he marked out as a rebel against the established values of the society. This play combines social criticism with the tragedy of an individual victimized by society. The play represents the mental conflict of the protagonist, Miss Leela Benare who appears during the mock trial as an accused. The plot of the play revolves round the trial of Miss Benare. Her role eclipses the roles of her male counterparts. In love, she is cheated twice; first by her maternal uncle and later by Prof. Damle, her loving companion. The Confederate Of Hypocrites Character Analysis The Confederacy of Hypocrites John Kennedy Toole killed himself after his book, The Confederacy of Dunces, was rejected by a number of publishers. It wasn t until after he died that the book came to Walker Percy, who pushed for its publication. In the foreword for the book, Percy calls the book sad, he says one never quite knows where the sadness comes from from the tragedy at the heart of Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventures or the tragedy attending the book itself (Percy ix). Though not obvious, the book offers evidence to suggest that the sadness does have a root in Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventure[s] and has nothing to do with the author s suicide, as tragic as that may be. The book is a critique of ordinary society s shortcomings but subsequently offers no solution or example of redemption. Toole s main tool for conveying his critique is through his main character, Ignatius J. Reilly, a pretentious, lazy, slob, whom stumbles from page to page in the book centering the entire plot around his grotesque self. Through the characterization of Ignatius and his interactions with society around him, The Confederacy illustrates a phenomenon in which people s outward judgements become... Neutrinos Research Paper Recently, scientists found the first known evidence of oscillating neutrinos, and have come to believe that they re getting very close to understanding these bizarre particles. FERMILAB LAUNCHES NEUTRINOS FARTHER This scientific advancement is the result of Fermilab s ongoing NOvA experiment, which hopes to uncover the secrets of those elusive particles called neutrinos. The study released its final results earlier this week. The experiment s gigantic particle detector is capable of detecting neutrinos fired from an impressive 500 miles distance, but the scientists are having a hard time forming significant conclusions from this recent success. After being fired, the neutrinos oscillate 500 miles through the Earth s crust. When one of the neutrinos collides with one of the atoms in the detector, a signature trail of particles and light is released which is used to identify the neutrino as an electron, muon or tau. Women in World War II Essay Women in World War II During World War II Hitler was skulking around Europe pretending to save Germany, military minds in Washington were stonewalling women s organizations, patriotic pressures, and anyone who had the temerity to suggest that women should be in the military. The politicians, in typical gerrymandering fashion, made flimsy promises of considering an auxiliary of sorts while quietly hoping it would all go away and secretly trying to figure out how to stop it. Fortunately Congresswoman Edith Nourse Rogers and Eleanor Roosevelt thought otherwise. Congresswoman Rogers introduced a bill on May 28 th, 1941, to establish a Women s Army Auxiliary Corps for service with the Army of the United States. By virtue of its being an... With a nudge from Eleanor Roosevelt, the Navy got its act together and began authorizing a Womens Naval Reserve and the Marine Corps Womens reserve. The Coast Guard followed soon after. The first director of the WAVES Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service was Lt Commander Mildred McAfee, President of Wellesley College. The SPARS, which came from the Coast Guard motto Semper Paratus always ready, were led by Lt Commander Dorothy C. Stratton. The Marine Corps Womens Reserve was headed by Major Ruth Cheyney Streeter. The WAAC was changed to the WAC establishing it as a part of the Army and not an auxiliary by a second bill in July of 1943, signed in to law by President Roosevelt. While all this politicking was going on the first WAAC contingent was serving at the Allied Forces Headquarters in Algiers, North Africa. By January of 1944 the first WACs arrived in the Pacific and in July of 1944 ,WACs landed on the beach at Normandy. There were over one hundred thousand women in uniform at this point in time. This discomfort is largely due to a shortage or an absence of the digestive enzyme lactase. Lactase is an enzyme located on the brush border of mucosal cells in the small intestine (Stanfield, 2011). Normally, lactose is hydrolyzed by this enzymeand end products, glucose and galactose, are readily absorbed into the bloodstream (Lomer, Parkes, Sanderson, 2008). Without lactasethis mechanism is not possible and lactose problematically lingers as a disaccharide in the small intestine s lumen. Students And Athletes Athletes Ambidexterity Amongst Students and Athletes MATH 141 (Prof. An) Final Project December 2015 Romeo Ardimento, Lorraine Jabouin, Christopher Kremer, Fiona Macleod Introduction /Background Being Ambidextrous can be quite useful; particularly for athletes and musicians. Many sports require the use of both hands, as do many instruments. For this reason our team decided to determine the difference in ambidexterity, if any, between people who are either athletes or musicians, and individuals who are not involved in either sports or music. We were interested in determining if the ability of participants to use their weak hand as well as their dominant hand is associated with participation in athletics or music. Does an individual s participation in either a sport or the fact that they play a musical instrument dictate how well they can use both hands? Methodology We decided that the best way to answer this question would be with a study. Our participants would be made up of 60 students. These participants would be made up of three equally divided identity groups. 20 athletes, 20 musicians, and 20 individuals who do not participate in sports or play an instrument (who from this point on will be referred to as the neither group). Those identified as athletes had to have had been on a Varsity team and those who were identified as musicians had to have been playing their instrument for more than two years. • 17. comparing emerson and dickinson Essay Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson were two of America s most intriguing poets. They were both drawn to the transcendentalist movement which taught unison of creation, the righteousness of humanity, and the preeminence of insight over logic and reason (Woodberry 113). This movement also taught them to reject religious authority(Sherwood 66). By this declination of authority, they were able to express their individuality. The final set of lines says that she is certain of the spot (Dickinson 1273). This second stanza clearly confirms that she is confident of her place in heaven. Dickinson believes in all of these things even though she hasn t observed any of them. (Benfey 25) This particular poem shows of her assurance of God and heaven. On the contrary, the poem I know That He Exists distinctly shows her uncertainty between her belief and disbelief in God. (Dickinson 1262) The first stanza begins with a relatively strong declaration of her faith. She knows that there is a God and that in some way, for whatever reasons, he has hid himself from our gross eye (Dickinson 1262). In the second stanza, she insinuates that he plays game with us just to gain our admiration for him. She starts to be troubled by this hide and seek game in the third stanza. The multivalent themes and leitmotifs with which Vasari regales his readers the major and minor artists, the diligent and the delinquent, the inventive and imitative, the mentors and apprentices, the fathers and sons, and the mothers, wives and daughters bring the history of Italian Renaissance art to life in his monumental text. In order for us to understand the purpose of the preface pages, it is important first to consider the purpose of Vasari s text as a whole. Vasari was himself a notable artist and architect, however he made it his eventual duty to recognise the importance of artists in the historical timeline. More significantly, he would endeavour to distinguish between the good, the better and the best and how their stylistic methods are indicative of an artist s ability. In his prefaces he relays to his readers the immense body of work he tasked himself with, how artists were gifted or strived for their art, were innovators or followers, and how their perception as craftsmen or academics changed, all this in an attempt to educate those who wanted to learn about the story of art. Vasari divides his Vite into three parts spanning a period from Cimabue s trecento Italo byzantine style to his present day cinquecento where he places particular emphasis on Michelangelo. In this time we can observe a shift from a spiritual almost detached emotion to something more aesthetically substantial, something Vasari surmises as finally reaching the summit of perfection. ... Smart gives the following analogy to make the argument clear, mental states are identical to brain states in the same way water in identical to H2O or lightning is identical to atmospheric electrical discharge. To further clarify the argument we will explain the important distinction between token and types. Imagine that there are four German Shepard s playing in the park, in this case we have four tokens of the type German Shepard. The tokens are the individual dogs and the type is the kind or class they belong to. The German Shepherds also belong to many other types for example, mammals, animals, material, object, etc. Now that we have the distinction between tokens and types clear we can further proceed and explain token identity and type identity. The issue of not receiving the pontoon bridges relates directly to the lack of Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB). Explain why it is much more difficult to measure snowfall amount than rainfall amount. Rain is measured by the amount of liquid contained in the measurement device. Whatever is amount of liquid is in the device, is the measurement. However snow, has various factors that can impact its measurement. First of all snowfall measurement is based on how much liquid there would be if the snow was melted into liquid form. There are several factors that can impact how much snow is measured in a device. Wind can move snow from high points to low points and vice versa. The surface on which the snow is falling onto can also impact a measurement. The length of time the snow has been on the ground and how compact it is can also effect measurements. Measuring in several places and then using an average can give a more accurate total. Meteorologists usually forecast snow amounts giving a range of totals due to these factors which make it challenging to give an exact forecast. 5. To clarify, I have learned how to evaluate the interventions, measurement choices, implementation of interventions and data collection process I practice with my clients to better understand how my clients are responding to therapeutic treatment. The first experience with regards to clinical evaluation I had began when I was required to complete the first immersion program report. In order to better understand my positionality with clinical evaluation it is important to know that this school year, I am interning with Henry Ittleson Center as a day treatment therapist. Henry Ittleson Center is a day and residential child treatment center located in the Riverdale area of the Bronx. The agency services children between the ages of 5 to 13 who are diagnosed with severe emotional and behavioral disorders and require special education services. As a result of clinical evaluation being such a long process, for the sake of this paper, I will be focusing on apprehension moments I encountered when completing my immersion report such as frustrations I faced with my agencies limited objectives/goals selection, frustrations with diagnosing children, difficulties with measurement selection, biased results and quick glance at the progress made by my client since I began to evaluate my own practices. My experiences with clinical evaluation formally began when asked to complete section one of the immersion report, which includes brief synopsis of client, target problem, goals and objectives. Initially, I found it quite easy to list out the target problem, goals and objectives because in essence, I was taking this information straight from the data base system we use in the agency to file our reports. However, as I started to reflect on this process with my immersion partner, I realized that I was not required or expected by my agency to ask my client or my client s family what they wanted me to identify as my client s goals and objectives for the year. As I went back into the system, I recognized that all the objectives and goals available on the AVATAR (system we use to keep our records) are dependent on the client s ... The most threatening aspect of America s excessive calorie intake is the effect it is having on children. According to source B a third of children aged two to fifteen are already overweight. This is dangerous because obesity leads to more health conditions and all this sugary intake is quickly weakening America. One can of soda has between thirty three and thirty five grams of sugar per serving which is more than a child s recommended total daily intake (Source A). Taking soda out of American s diets or at least dramatically reducing it can help begin to reduce the obesity problem in America.
