DOCUMENTARY
• The medium I am working on is documentary, some characteristics might be a
voiceover that you see in most documentaries like David Attenborough. Some
may have a topic they want to be heard which is interesting and not to many
people know about, that'll make it entertaining to watch. Some use a Handheld
say if they’re getting more personal and doing a say like ‘a day in the life’ like in a
lot of Joe Fazer’s work.
JOE FAZER
• Joe Fazer is a fitness youtuber who prominently is into his bodybuilding and powerlifting. He makes 5 minute
videos and fits a lot in there in the certainly short timeframes. He has a very easy to watch and addictive
concept. His videos aren’t technically documentary's but they have technical aspects I like such as the subtitles
which can separate clips and also can use instead of footage if need be.

10 Benefits Of Exercise On The Brain And Body - Why You Need Exercise - YouTube
FACTS
• These distorted views cause preoccupation with becoming overly muscular
and/or lean often leading to dangerous habits such as: excessive weight training;
restrictive dieting; the use of substance (such as anabolic steroids) all of which can
lead to anxiety and depression.
This is most common in weightlifting and bodybuilding communities.
FACTS
• Up to one million people in the UK are taking anabolic steroids and other image PED enhancing
drugs.
• 17% of adults go to a health or fitness gym.
• Almost three in ten adult men (28%) aged 18 and above have felt anxious because of body
image issues.
• Body image concerns are increasingly common in young men, 1 in 10 of them men go to gym
experience muscle dysmorphia; the reasons for these are social media and changing ideas of
masclunity.
• Daniel Gwartney, MD, and colleagues at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston identified the
average age of male body builders that completed from 1948 to 2014 age of death is 47.5
FACTS
• Bigorexia, also known as muscle dysmorphia, is a health condition that can cause you to think constantly about building muscle on your body.
• Bigorexia shares some of the same symptoms as other disorders like anorexia nervosa and is a type of body dysmorphic disorder.
• Bigorexia appears to be on the rise, especially among young adults. Let’s take a look at the symptoms, risk factors, coping strategies, and treatments available for muscle dysmorphia.
• Bigorexia is primarily a psychological condition, though it can appear in physical ways.
• Someone with bigorexia might experience some of the following symptoms:
• obsession with appearance, sometimes called mirror checking
• a fixation on your diet Trusted Source and dietary supplements
• medication and steroid use related to physical fitness
• dissatisfaction with your appearance that leads to depressed moods or anger
• Many symptoms of bigorexia may feel relatively normal. But when you are pushing your body to achieve fitness goals that always seem out of reach, there may be more going on than simply wanting to
be in good shape.
INTERVIEWS
• What do you like about action films?
• Is there any type of action films you like?
• Do you know the top 3 biggest box office movies?
• Why do you think they did so well?
• Whats your favourite action movie actor and why?
• Do you prefer animated or live action?
• Worst action film you’ve seen?
• Are you doing an action film for your fmp?
ANSWERS
• The most action packed genre is why Toby likes it.
• Toby likes marvel films, fast and furious, other Netflix films.
• Avatar, endgame and infinity war, because marvel has a massive fan base and avatar was
monumental.
• Robert Downy JR great actor, and he likes the iron man character as he’s seen him develop as
a character for 10 years.
• Toby prefers live action to animated.
• Toby thinks the new fast and furious is one of the worse films he’s seen. Because story wasn’t
needed and he thinks it’s a money grab.
• He was thinking about doing an action film for FMP but decided not too as he wants to do a
magazine he also did a horror trailer last year.
REFLECTIONS
• I enjoyed meeting toby as I’ve never talked to him before. I thought it was fun coming up with the questions and researching a topic I wasn’t fully up
to date on.
• I think toby and I got through a lot in a short amount of time, which meant we were ahead of lot of people in terms of things done. I think our
chemistry was pretty decent so the interview flowed and we could have some banter. Recording on our phones of just the audio went well as it
picked up the audio really well and we could go anywhere reasonably quiet to film.
• Sending the audio to get it back was a bit of a problem as it wouldn’t work sending through teams to each over or emailing but it eventually worked
after multiple experiments if we sent it to someone already that we have a chat with. Our interview probably was too quick and I don’t know why
because we had multiple questions each. The entire length of both interviews were about 8 minutes which is dreadful compared to some peoples
who’s are 30 minutes, our determination to finish it could have been our downfall.
• I think for my project interviews I might need to expand from the questions so I can get them to talk more making the whole interview longer. I need
to pick questions where the interviewee can talk for a long time. I’m probably a lot more confident talking with a recording on as I’ve had experience
with this and the vlog task, so ill hopefully be able to speak my mind for the actual interview going into my project.
• I actually enjoyed being interviewed and talking about what you know, I hope the interviewee I do will enjoy it when they do it so they can be at ease
for when filming, and if they aren’t ill reassure it’ll be fine; as a comfortable interviewee will have the best responses and feel free to say whatever.
EXISTING PRODUCT
• Bigorexia: Never Buff Enough | BBC Newsbeat
The topic is about how bodybuilders feel they’re ‘never buff Enough’ which can lead to many complications like steroid abuse or fatality and many other things.
I think the documentary is for people who may be suffering from bigorexia, people interested in body building, concerned individuals for people they may think have it.
The BBC made it in 2015. They have a number of different interviewees ranging from experts to people dealing with it already, to people who have had love ones who’s had it.
Some camera work they’ve used is for the day in the life section of the doc they used handheld as that’s consistently used in ‘day in a life’s’.
Sound wise they use mostly just talking not much music but when they do its more for dramatic effect.
They edit a lot of voice over images where you cant seem them talking edited with footage of them actually talking to keep it visually interesting.
The tone is quite informative and sad in parts but its trying to get an in depth realistic depiction of what life is living with muscle dysmorphia.

What It Takes To Be A Bodybuilding Champion | George "DA BULL" Peterson | 2020 Tampa Pro
More of an upbeat tone in this one in terms of body building. Its made for people who are fans of
weightlifting competitions and bodybuilding as a whole.
It’s a day in a life but its filmed differently to the previous product as its filmed with
a camera crew.
Most of the sound is pretty much the same to the previous product and similar
style but its way more personal in this one as its focused on Georges story as a
bodybuilder.

• My Physique Update | Skinny Kid Bulking Up
Joe Fazer has a Youtube channel with his main series Skinny kid Bulking up. Its
basically an update of his physique and his experiences with trying to bulk up.
He uses POV shots as it’s a common trope in a day in a life videos, which is
essentially what’s the video.
Joe Fazer uses multiple angle shots to add to the entertainment of watching for the
viewer. It adds to cinematic feel and the whole project looks way more professional;
this is something I would like to do for my documentary.
EXPERIMENTS I'M GOING DEPLOY
• I will try and deploy some questionnaires, and production techniques like
different angles and maybe a drone. I will test lighting and see if I need additional
lighting.
AUDIENCE RESEARCH
• Who is my documentary targeted for?
My documentary is targeted for people who are interested into fitness but also
people who may be concerned for someone they know.
In my documentary I'm going to assume people don’t know what I'm talking about
so I'm going to say a lot of facts and explain and define bigorexia.
