2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Project proposal title and date: Thoughtless
Main area of activity: Film
Rationale: 100 words approx.
Review your progress throughout this year- what products have you made and what skills and
knowledge have you acquired? How will you use those skills? I learnt how to use premiere pro to
make a radio drama and music video, and add special effects like slow motion and explosions. I
learnt how to set up a camera, where to position it to get a good shot, and how to use it over the
shoulder, film and edit. I will use these skills to make the trailer really effective. I want to learn how
to use the boom. The sound quality in my music video wasn’t great. Using the boom will make the
sound quality better. I will ask someone in make-up to do the casts make up so when I do close
ups the camera won’t be so harsh.
What was your previous, similar production and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
The music video made me learn new skills which I have improved on, which will have a direct
impact on the audience for my Trailer.
Project Concept: 200 words approx.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make? I’m making a trailer for a
new TV Comedy.
Plot: A family (two brothers, mum and dad). One son (Lee) is training to become a comedian. He
practices one of his acts, but it goes horribly wrong. He tries fixing it, but the situation gets worse.
Once the issue is fixed just in time, he tries practicing it again. What will happen next?
The purpose of the trailer is to advertise and entertain the audience.
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project?
I will look at trailers of TV Comedies seeing what they put in to make it entertaining. I will look at
tutorials of adding special effects on Premiere Pro. This will help so I can make the trailer effective.
I will watch episodes of The Big Bang Theory, Allo Allo and Fawlty Towers to see how they tell a
story. This will help me to tell the story of my video and will help with creating the characters in
more detail. I will watch behind the scene videos of comedies and dramas to see what they use to
film a stunt and how they do it. This will help so I can film a stunt for the trailer.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: 50 words approx.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? I will look at all the work I’ve done, and look at the
strengths and weaknesses of each. I will ask other people for feedback on my video, seeing what
they like and don’t like and what could be improved. Reference conducting on-going evaluation
(Production Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its
outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
