Mushroom are mainly subjected to bacterial , fungal and viral diseases.
Improper pasteurization of compost and casing soil can be the major source of diseases
Once the disease is introdeuced in the farm it can be carried out by different agencies like air, water, machines and workers.
Types of mushroom:In particularly edible mushroom available in India and also i include other types of edible mushroom current status.I denoted mushroom structure, character, nutrient value and favour for their growth , in which contry and their favour also included.
Mushroom are good nutritional food sorces,Mushroom used as medical purposses, commercial use.Mushroom are used to produces varity of food recipes like soap, cutlet, omelet etc...

These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled Technology Management Strategy to analyze the business model for Ecovative’s mushroom material. This material can bind various agricultural wastes together and thus enable the production of various products from agricultural waste using inexpensive molds. Corn stalks and other materials can be procured locally and formed into packaging and other products that can replace Styrofoam and other non-renewable and non-decomposing materials. Thus, this Ecovative’s mushroom materials can reduce a manufacturer’s carbon and trash footprints. Ecovative is licensing its technology to other firms so that these firms can manufacture the packaging from locally available agricultural waste. these

Oyster mushrooms can be grown on a variety of substrates, including:
Paddy straw
Maize stalks/cobs
Vegetable plant residues
Sugarcane bagasse
Hulled maize cobs
Paddy straw is commonly used because it is inexpensive and easily accessible. To prepare the straw, cut it into 3–5 cm pieces and soak it in fresh water for 8–16 hours.
Oyster mushroom can grow at moderate temperature ranging from 20 to 300 C and humidity 55-70% for a period of 6 to 8 months in a year. It can also be cultivated in summer months by providing the extra humidity required for its growth. In hilly areas above 900m

The basic idea is to turn waste into food – since even the poor have organic waste in
abundance. Growing mushrooms has the potential for the poor, especially female
orphans, to escape their situation of abuse, find meaning and build self-esteem.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

3. TERMINOLOGIES USED IN MUSHROOM
GROWING
1. Substrate-carrier material used in growing mushroom
2. Spawn-mushroom ”seed”
3. Mycellium-This fiber- like ”roots” that grow through the
substrate.
4. Pin-heads-The first signs of sprouting mushrooms.
5. Fruiting-process of mushroom development(growth)
6. Fruiting body-The actual mushroom.
4. TERMINOLOGIES USED IN MUSHROOM
GROWING
7. Cluster- several mushrooms growing together sometimes
from the same stem.
8. Colonization-Growing of mycelium through the substrate.
9. Contamination-infection of other unwanted organism e.g.
green mould, black mould etc.
10. Dark room-Room with total darkness where spawns are put
for the first 14-21 days for the mycelium to colonize
(incubation).
5. Requirements of a mushroom house
1. Mushroom Housing: the structure should not be complex,
it could be made simply from locally available materials.
6. Requirements of a mushroom house
• Materials used include: -
1. Steel structure tubing covered with tarpaulin
2. Bamboo woven matting insulated inside with polythene
sheets.
3. Grass thatched houses or with shade cloth thatching
4. Green houses clad with insulation (glass wool) and roof
vents
5. Mud walled house
15. Conditions
1. The structure should provide the required conditions
to favor mushroom growing e.g.
(i) Lighting
(ii) Humidity
(iii) Temperature
16. Requirements of a mushroom house
2. Housing conditions: -
1. Temperature
a) Incubation 20-27o C (14-21 days)
b) Fruiting/pin formation 10-18o C
2. Humidity
a) Substrate moisture - 60-70%
b) Fruiting body 80-95% humidity
17. Requirements of a mushroom house
2. Housing conditions: -
3. Light- Mycelia growth (Incubation) can take place
without light - Fruiting body (mushroom growth
process) requires light.
4. Ventilation -Fungi are aerobic therefore need fresh air
especially during the reproduction stage.
18. Substrate
• Substrate is any material used to support growth of crops
instead of soil. Mushroom can be classified as:
1. Primary decomposers of organic matter (like wood,
leaves and straw in nature) e.g. shitake and oyster
mushroom,
2. Secondary decomposers-matter degraded by bacteria or
other fungi e.g. button mushroom.
21. Substrate
• The planting materials should make a good combination so
as to give a balanced nutrient supply to the mushroom.
• E.g.
• Tea leaves,
• water hyacinth, wood shavings.
• Corn stovers,
• Cotton straw,
• Cotton husks,
25. Factors to consider in substrate selection
• High yielding substrate
• Ease of use
• Cost of substrate
• Availability
• Storage
• Cost of transport
• Clean (without moulds/coloration)
• If possible from the previous harvest
26. The sterilization process
• Grain, sawdust and compost contain large
numbers of contaminants. A single grain
kernel may contain thousands of bacteria,
fungi and actinomycetes.
• Steaming in an oil drum for at least 6
hours is usually necessary to ensure proper
heating of the inner core of the substrate
bags.
• Sterilize 4-liter bags filled with 2kg spawn
substrate for at least 2 hours at 121°C.
29. Pressure cookers
• The cheapest option is to obtain one or more large pressure
cookers. Select pressure cookers that maintain the pressure
when the final temperature has been reached.
32. Requirements for spawn production
• Inoculation box or laminar airflow cabin
laboratory equipment like Petri dishes, test
tubes, scales, alcohol, flame
• Incubator
• Incubation room
• Refrigerator
• Weighing scale
• Polyethene bags
33. Requirements for spawn production
• The raw materials include:
• Ingredients for media preparation
• Substrate material (grain, wooden sticks (skewers), sawdust,
or even oil palm fruit fiber)
• Pure culture or fresh mushroom of the desired mushroom
species strain
• Spawn containers (such as bottles or plastic bags)
34. • The minimal requirements for a spawn
production unit are:
• A sterilization unit (pressure cooker,
autoclave) sterile environment:
38. Requirement for Button mushroom
• Mushroom house
• Cement or concrete platform (14 x 7 meters) for preparing
compost
• Tray beds (wooden trays made up of pinus or deodar)
• Compost ingredients
• Spawn (mushroom seeds)
• Casing soil
• Sprayer with nozzle
• Sterilization facility
• Wooden board with handle for compressing the compost
• Lime or carbonate of lime
