DEFINING ISLAMIC WAY OF WARFARE AND ITS COMPARISON WITH AL
QAEDA DOCTRINE, by Major Intekhab Haider Khan, 85 pages.
With the rise of Al Qaeda and like minded militant groups, there have been many discussions and
misrepresentations of the term Islamic way of warfare. It is important to understand that anything,
to be qualified as Islamic, has to have a reference from the core sources of Islam, i.e. the Quran, and
the practices and sayings of Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH). This research is focused to define an Islamic way of warfare based on these fundamental
sources, with a view to identifying whether Al Qaeda is truly Islamic or not.
This thesis identifies that Islam does not dictate minor tactical matters of warfare, rather focuses its
guidance on warfare in two broad categories: the just cause for waging war, and limited restrictions
on conduct during the war.

Section 213 was written into the Patriot Act as a way to sneak and peek locations before
potential criminals or evidence had a chance to be relocated. This would give law enforcement
time to completely search through someone s property either physically or electronically
without their knowledge of it. However, at some point, they were required to inform the party
of their search. In many cases, law enforcement works within a time limit during investigation of
a case and Section 213 is intended to give law enforcement more leeway on how the fourth
amendment is interpreted in terrorist type cases. To sum up Section 213, agents, through very
little proof of evidence, are able to enter someone s house and do a full search of their property
without any kind of notice. Obviously when it is at the discretion of the officers, they will likely
overuse this power to extend past just possible terrorist attacks and call for the use of this
section in other cases as well. Although there are obvious issues with this ruling, Heather
MacDonald in The Patriot Act Is No Slippery Slope argues that this section is a critical part of
the process of protecting Americans from terrorist attacks. She uses an example of the FBI

Elements of Darkness in Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness
In both Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness certain elements of darkness attempt to show how
deep one must look inside themselves to discover the truth. Conrad portrays the idea of the darkness
of the human heart through things such as the interior of the jungle and it s immensity, the Inner
Station, and Kurtz s own twisted deeds. Coppola s heart of darkness is represented by the madness
of the Vietnam War and how even to look for a purpose in it all; is itself quite mad.

The character in the book, Marlow, is at first in a journey to be a steamboat captain on the Belgian
Congo and eventually takes up the assignment of finding a sick Kurtz at his trading station in the
core of the jungle.
The settings of the film and the book are also quite similar but different. The book takes place at
the turn of the century where, on the Belgian Congo, French traders have begun business along
the river and are using native slaves. The book depicts acts of slavery done on the part of whites
who are running the operation. The idea of slavery is reflected in the film as the treatment of the
Vietnamese civilians during the Vietnam War. Just as Marlow witnesses the dying slaves at the
outposts, Willard is confronted by the horrors of war in the Vietnamese villages. Vietnam is used in
the setting of the film to further illustrate the theme of human darkness, which is explored even
further as the film goes on.
The idea of human darkness in both the film and the book is expressed through the madness that
many of the characters take part in. One of the most memorable characters of the film is a
Colonel played by Robert Duvall who is crazy enough to care more about catching some good
waves than completing his mission during a an air raid on a village. But even after one particular
battle he comes reflective that very soon the war is going to end even though he loves the smell

Ontario couple married over 40 years. The couple is forced to face that fact that Fionas
forgetfulness is actually Alzheimers disease. After Fiona wanders away and is found after being
lost, she realizes that she can no longer live at home. Fiona has too much self pride for herself, and

Even her appointment with the doctor, she was using humour in some form to answer the doctors
question. I think the use of humour is a coping mechanism for Fiona, but also shows her strength
of character. Fionas acceptance of her diagnosis is shown through her swift actions and her positive
behaviour such as humour, proves her strength of character. I think that this adds to the proof of her
real courage and strength, which helps to give evidence to her and Grants marriage being able to last
over forty years.
The last item that I believe the director wanted to address was the idea of a sexual relationship
among older adults. In a few parts of the movie, there are intimate encounters between Fiona and
Grant, and Grant and Marian. Many films, for example the Notebook, and others that deal with
people in their 60s and 70s, give off the idea that they are very sweet and sexless. Although it is
somewhat seem as taboo that elderly dont engage in sexual activity, I think that Polley used this as
part of a way to show the true honesty of the relationship. We are not given some cookie cutter
idea of the marriage. Polley used the opportunity of showcasing intimacy among older people, as a
sign that there is a reason why people are together for so long. There arent just meaningful

Overeater Anonymous Meeting Analysis
Overeater Anonymous (OA) is a support group for individuals who have problems related to food
such as compulsive overeater, binge eating disorder, bulimics and anorexics. The meeting was
located at the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin at 133 West 46th Street, NYC on Friday at 6pm.
The meetings are open to anyone who wants to obtain more information about the OA support
group and/or ways to deal with overeating. The meeting was more lecture based as it attempts to
teach the individuals ways to deal with their compulsive disorder. The OA meeting is a non profit
support group collecting any contributions that that the group can make to fund its meetings.

influences of Minstrels in his book: Whiting Up: Whiteface Minstrels and Stage Europeans in

Professor at the University of South Carolina, a location which promotes his credibility in his first
major assertion that whiteface minstrels arose in Charleston, South Carolina. In his first chapter,
