Comparing Love In Inanna And Symposium
Love s Contribution to Power in Inanna and Symposium The presence of love and power in
intimate relationships is prominent in both the Inanna and the Symposium. Both texts contain
examples of intimate relationships that lead to significant effects on the power of those in the
relationship. The Inanna and the Symposiumboth illustrate that loveis the greatest possible catalyst
for the attainment of power. Love provides individuals with attributes that in turn increase their
power. This is illustrated through the courtship of Dumuzi and Inanna and through the speeches
regarding love and the apprentice relationships that are found in the Symposium. Inanna s rise from
a helpless girl to a powerful goddess is chronicled through the Inanna. She... Show more content on

52). Inanna never thought about traveling to the dangerous gates of the underworld before she
gained her power. Her rise in power and dominance is notable when comparing her bold
decisions as a goddess to her helpless behavior from the beginning of the text. Inanna s drastic
gain in dominance is linked to her love life because it occurs directly after her courtship with
Dumuzi. Before marrying Dumuzi, Inanna is still very needy and asks her brother Utu who will
weave her bridal sheets for her and who will bleach them for her (pg. 31). Although Inanna is at
first hesitant to marrying Dumuzi, once they are together, Inanna s sense of dominance and
power increases. One example of her increased dominance is the instance when Inanna calls
Dumuzi to bed instead of the other way around, saying The bed is ready! ...The bed is waiting!
(pg. 42). This instance of Inanna s dominance is significant in relation to her power because it
occurs in a Sumerian text where a patriarchal society was prevalent and a woman calling a man to
bed would be considered taboo. Inanna s newly found dominance after entering marriage and

Creationism In The Classroom

Evolution and Creationism in the Classroom For years the United States government, and the
majority of the science community, has been pushing creationism out of the science classroom in
favor of evolution, because creationism is considered unscientific by most scientists (Baker). Many
scientists think that creationism shouldn t even be mentioned, for fear of legitimizing what they
think is unscientific (Reece). Regardless of all of this, the United States public acceptance of
evolution remains low and support for creationism remains high compared to other western
countries (Baker). Because of this there are some scientists and educators pushing for teachers to

Vacationing In New York City
Vacationing in New York City can be a fun and exciting time, but the amount of the things to do
may seem overwhelming. By knowing what type of activity one would like to experience, it may
be easier and more enjoyable in making decision on to see and do. There are many different
categories of attractions in New York City, and most fall into that of Art, History, Architecture, and

New York City boasts deep roots in the world of the Arts. The city is home to Broadway and the

Image Processing And Image Enhancement
Abstract
Image enhancement is to process an image, in order to make the result more suitable than original
image for specific application. i.e. the image is enhanced. For that many image enhancement
techniques are used. Appropriate choice of such techniques is very important.Image Enhancement
is simple and it s the area based on digital image processing techniques. It improves the quality of
the images by working with the existing data.
Keywords:
Image processing, Image enhancement
1. Introduction
Image processing is the input image which is converted from one form to another. Digital image
processing plays a vital role in real world applications. Before processing an image, it must be
converted into a digital form.
One of part of the image processing is the image enhancement. The main objective of image
enhancement is to modify attributes of an image to make it more suitable for a given task. Here,
one or more attributes of the image get modified. The main purpose of image enhancement is to
bring out details which are hidden in an image, or to increase the contrast in a low contrast image. It
produces an output image that is better than the original image by changing the pixel s intensity of
the input image. Image enhancement is applied in many fields. For example, medical image
analysis, analysis of images from satellites, Aerial imaging, Satellite imaging, Digital camera
applications, Remote sensing etc.

Stock Analysis Essay example
Stock Picks and Analysis
Choosing two profitable stocks amongst a myriad of potential alternatives is a daunting task to say
the least. In order to narrow my choices from thousands to two, I examined several aspects of
companies I was interested in. Among these were, company overview, alpha and betaratings, price
ratios, price charts, and company headlines. After evaluating this information, I chose Intuit INC
(INTU) listed on the NASDAQ and Johnson and Johnson (JNJ) listed on the NYSE.
Intuit, Inc.

These trends can be seen when examining the candlestick chart.
The Candlestick chart has formed a Bullish pattern which suggests that buyers are entering into
the stock. The stock should continue higher for the short term. By looking at Intuit s charts we
can observe that Intuit has had steady gains despite a period of loss between mid July and mid
August. We can also see that it has a Support at 43.44 and Resistance at 47.42. If it breaks this
resistance the stock should continue higher to 50.13. The close proximity of resistance at 47.42
will be focused on as a possible refraction from this level may occur.
On October 1, 2002 the chairman of the executive committee sold 200,000 shares of stock in the
company. Although this may make some investors uneasy, Inuit came out earlier last month and
said its fiscal 2003 revenue and profit will be in line with its expectations. On September 25, Intuit
announced that the connectivity of Quicken Software for Windows to financial institutions via
Open Financial Exchange (OFX) has surpassed the 2,000 mark. This connectivity, more than any
other personal finance software product on the market, allows over 15 million Quicken for
Windows customers to download their financial transactions via secure connections directly from

Tension and Suspense the Novel and the Opening Scene of the Film Jaws
Peter Benchley wrote Jaws the novel before it was made into a film directed by Steven Spielberg.
Jaws is a thriller with the main aim being to build up suspense and tension. In the novel Peter
Benchley uses many variations of language techniques to emphasise important points that build up
suspense. He also uses sentence and paragraph structure to affect the reader in many different ways.
Steven Spielberg on the other hand uses different camera angles and shots alongside lighting effects
to create atmosphere and tension. In the background he uses music and sound effects to add to the
dramatic visual images he creates. Finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tempo and volume gradually increase with the intention of raising the viewer s heartbeat. This
increase also gives the effect that whatever is moving through the water is getting closer and
speeding up. Then all of a sudden a dramatic picture, from the shark s eye view appears, creeping
through the weeds on the seabed. The camera angle is very effective, as the audience moves through
the weeds with the shark. The dimly lit darkness of deep underwater which creates an unclear
picture has the effect of making the audience anxious as nobody knows what the shark is about to
find.
The instant that the picture appears, an abrupt increase in the tempo and the volume of the music
makes the viewer s heart leap. Amounting tension causes an adrenaline rush and makes the viewer
edgy. Suspense is created because the viewer knows that something will happen but does not know
when. When the music comes to a climax a horn joins in with the cellos. Horns are generally
associated with any kind of hunt and although the audience doesn t yet know that the shark is after
the girl the horn adds to the overall nervousness of the atmosphere. As screeching, slashing violins
can be heard the bold, glaring title Jaws appears in capital letters signalling the ultimate climax of
the tension. Just when the audience can t take

Auteurism In The Dark Knight
Introduction Considering the collaborative process of filmmaking, especially nowadays in most
film production, the concept of there being a singular creative supervisor is debatable.
Nonetheless one cannot deny the existence and driving force of directional motifs and instances of
thematic and stylistic elements within the work of filmmakers like Tim Burton and Alfred
Hitchcock. These directors indicate that within traditions and genres lies the overall definition of
an auteur: a director whose inventive traits are listed throughout his or her work like a signature.
Auteurism rose to the surface in the 1950s French New Wave criticism as an appraisal of
Hollywood directors who were ready to deny the rules of the studio system and create films... Show

The irregular closed up shot of Bane s face has the effect of unveiling Bruce Wayne s fear
towards the villain, as well as capturing Bane s mysterious and overwhelming presence by
illuminating only one side of his face. In addition, Nolan establishes the juxtaposition between the
blurriness and sharpness that makes the character s face appear as if it was outstretching from the
frame. While the boundaries between the softness and sharpness in Nolan s typical close up shots
are clearly established, the delineation in this particular scene is obscure. In effect, the shot

Copper Statue Analysis
Mohamad Habehh Walking around The Metropolitan Museum of Art, there are many ancient
pieces of art and old artifacts on display. One of the art pieces that caught my eye was the Head
of a Ruler, from ancient Iranian or Mesopotamian times. I chose this figure because the person
depicted in the copper head looked like an important figure of the time. The man is well
groomed and has an emotionless face, but it also looks like he is portraying a little confidence
in his expressionless face. Considering this is a copper statue, I think it is safe to say it was not
completed in a short amount of time, leaving me to wonder if the man posed for the figure.
Whether he posed for it or not, it still gives off the vibe that he held a high title in society. There
was no indication on the display of who the man was or what his role was, only assumptions that
supported my ideas that the man was an important figure in that society, possibly a ruler or king.
This figure makes me curious in the sense that this man was obviously an important figure during
ancient times, but he cannot be identified in modern times. I also can t help but assume he might
not have made a great impact in society, whether he was a king, ruler, or even... Show more content

There are cracks throughout the figure due to age and possible mishandling. It is fairly simple
in terms of detail. While there is some extent of texture in the man s face and skin, it is hard to
tell whether it was intentional or due to average erosion. The features of the man s face are
extremely realistic, nonetheless. The eyes are hollow, which initially led me to believe the entire
figure is hollow. While the description does say that there were other supports inside the hollow
figure to hold the figure in place, there is no other physical indication that the figure is hollow. The
artist must have been extremely talented to be able to make a very realistic looking figurine of a
man using a hollow

St. Valentines Day Massacre Of Chicago Essay
From 1924 to 1930, the city of Chicago gained a widespread reputation for lawlessness and
violence. Not coincidentally, this phenomenon coincided with the reign of chief crime lord Al
Scarface Capone, who took over from his boss Johnny Torrio in 1925. (Torrio, who was seriously
wounded in an assassination attempt in 1924, had retired to Brooklyn.) Prohibition, ushered in by
the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1920, had greatly increased the earnings of America s
gangsters through bootlegging (the illegal manufacture and sale of alcohol) and speakeasies (illicit
drinking establishments), as well as gambling and prostitution. Capone s income from these
activities was estimated at some $60 million a year; his net worth in 1927 was around... Show more

Federal authorities, including the Federal
Bureau of Investigation, had much less jurisdiction than they have today, and did not include
Chicago s gang related activity. Chicago s gang war reached its bloody climax in the so called St.
Valentine s Day Massacre of
1929. One of Capone s longtime enemies, the Irish gangster George Bugs
Moran, ran his bootlegging operations out of a garage on the North Side of
Chicago. On February 14, seven members of Moran s operation were gunned down while
standing lined up, facing the wall of the garage. Some 70 rounds of ammunition were fired. When
police officers from Chicago s 36th District arrived, they found one gang member, Frank
Gusenberg, barely alive. In the few minutes before he died, they pressed him to reveal what had
happened, but Gusenberg wouldn t talk.Police could find only a few eyewitnesses, but eventually
concluded that gunmen dressed as police officers had entered the garage and pretended to be
arresting the men. Though Moran and others immediately blamed the massacre on Capone s gang,
the famous gangster himself claimed to have been at his home in Florida at the time. No one

A Day to Remember
I can still remember it like it was yesterday. It all started at about 2 p.m. It was the time I went back

front gate, I was shocked. The gate and the door were opened. It was because at that time there was
nobody in my house as all my familymembers were not at home I was frightened and did not
know what I should do. Should I go inside or call the police? I was hesitant because my family
went out for work and they would normally tell me if they took afternoon off. However, I decided
to see what was happening. I picked up a hard stick so that if something happened, I could protect
myself. Then, I walked slowly to my house. I took a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sense Of Belonging And Interpersonal Connectivity
The sense of belonging and interpersonal connectivity is a widely researched topic in
psychology, but controversies have been surrounding it among different researchers (Ma, 2003).
Also, it has been defined in various ways . According to Vallerand, sense of belonging has to do
with the feeling of connectivity with others in the same environment, often involving identifying
oneself with a particular group. When the sense of belonging is deeply rooted within a group, one
feels accepted, loved and respected in self image, personally and what they believe in (Booker,
2004; Goodenow, 1993). Baumeister and Leary (1995) acknowledged that sense of belonging has
two features: contact and interactions at regular basis and the context of loveand care. Baumeister
and Leary said that human beings have a pervasive drive to form and maintain at least a minimum
quantity of lasting, positive, and significant interpersonal relationships (Baumeister Leary, 1995, p.
497). The sense of belonging has a lasting effect on one s personality in respect with emotions and
other cognitive processes (Baumeister Leary, 1995). When the sense of belonging is at its lowest,
students are prone to being engulfed by solitary thoughts, feel lonely and lose interest in many
social interaction opportunities (Goodenow, 1993). This in turn is attributed to dwindling academic
performance, as the students don t feel accepted and motivated within the social parameters around
them (Goodenow, 1993). Considerable

does it fall short in Magento s shadow? Magento is the leading ecommerce platform today with a
market share of around 30%. Magento s success could be attributed to certain factors but many

What are these SaaS and PaaS platforms? In simple terms, SaaS is short for Software as a Service.
PaaS means Platform as a Service. The two have different purposes along with their own pros and
cons. Depending on what you choose, a platform s weakness could be actually beneficial to your
business needs. Have you already built your own ecommerce website store? Or are you just starting
out and want to build your own from scratch?
Choosing between a SaaS and a PaaS software would depend on your answers to those questions.
As a SaaS provider, Shopify Plus manages all the back end and front end systems of your website
store. This means that any customizations that you want to implement would be limited to what
Shopify allows. This could either be a disadvantage or an advantage for you depending on how you
d like to build your website. Shopify Plus compensates this limitation by providing aesthetic
templates and designs, to which the platform is widely known for.
While it s obvious that this is a limitation to what Shopify Plus can potentially offer in terms of
customizations, many would still choose a SaaS platform like Shopify

The Moral Education Theory Of Punishment
I would now like to further demark the limitations of power that the government can have over its
citizens with the Parent/ Child versus Law argument presented by Jean Hampton in The Moral
Education Theory of Punishment . Hampton says that parents are much more entitled to punish
their children than any other institution, and particularly governments, as parents have the role of
what Hampton dubs moral paternalism, which is to teach their children the entire content of
morality. Other Philosophers such as John Stuart Millhave also rejected a role of paternalism in
government and go even further and say that a law cannot restrict what an individual does to
himself, specifically, such philosophers as John Stuart Mill have rejected the state s passing
any law which would restrict what an individual can do to himself (as opposed to what he can do
to another) (John Stuart Mill on Jean Hampton 218 219). This is also a principle that Nozick
defends to the right of persons to be left alone and live their own lives, provided they are not
violating the rights of others (Nozick 381). These limits agree with the origins of our legislation
and I believe are quintessential to creating moral legislation as well as picking which actions are
punishable by the state and which are not.
In summary, what I find to be a valid moral justification theory of punishment incorporates the
above mentioned limitations of law as explained by Hampton and Mill. Furthermore, I would like to

The Change Of Lancelot s Character In Oedipus The King
In the third book a new character is introduced, a character that can also be seen as a typical hero.
Lancelot is a knight serving under Arthur, but as he wants to serve his typical knightly duties and
tells Arthur that I want to go on a quest. I want to find an adventure (ch. 6). Questing was very
typical for knights, in order to prove their worth, and to achieve eternal glory. Book three centers
around the story of Lancelotand his hero s journey, rather than Arthur s. Lancelot s character is
equally as complex as Arthur s as both have their code of morals and loyalty to the other, but at the
same time face challenges that make them question said loyalties.
18. Guenever is at this point an old woman, but her love for Lancelot is no longer a purely
physical thing. She looked singularly lovely, not like a film star, but like a woman who had grown

Neopopulism And The Dependency Theory
More so, in Durkheim s Division of Labour, progress is linked to urbanisation (Durkheim, 2001).
The large cities are the undeniable core of progress; it is there that the values, needs, ideas
emerge, subsequently to spread to the rest of the country. Generally, change in society occurs
owing to them and to imitating their experience (Valade, 2007). Durkheim identified two basic
sources of cohesion: mechanical solidarity (the case of societies fragmented into family or
geographical aggregates) and organic solidarity. The former results from the association of
individuals at an archaic level of society, which reiterates previous structures and are incapable of
structural innovation, as uniform beliefs and norms imposed by oppressive laws are the rule

technology skills that are not met by the candidates in the area, so sometimes the employer decides
to relocate certain jobs somewhere else where people are more qualified. Another example is when
technology and automation in production causes loss of jobs as well. Also, a company may decide
to move its office or production somewhere else (overseas), where the cost of labor is more
convenient. All of these situations generate an increase in the unemployment rate, called structural
unemployment. Impact of technological change on employment The impact on employment occurs
because a change in technology immediately affects the demand of skills requirements. For
instance, think about a factory that is going to open a sophisticated new automated production area
that would produce something automatically from raw materials into finish goods. In this case, the
employer will most likely hire a mechanical engineer in order to fill the position. I made this
extreme example just to explain that a technological change has always represented a change in the
skill demand in business since the industrial revolution. Hence, with the innovation of technology,
from hardware to software, employees at all level need

The Meaning Of Coming Of Age Essay
The statement coming of age means to me that you are given more responsibility to do different
things, you are expected to be more mature and more trust is handed to you. These are just a few
of the things that are expected of you when you are coming of age because you are getting closer
to being a responsible, mature and trustworthy adult. The reason that I think you are given more
responsibility when you are coming of age is because you are getting older and about ready to
move out of the house, and when you do there won t be any excuses for not doing things that you
are supposed to do because it s on you for not doing what you are supposed to do. With that, you
are given more and more responsibility until you come of age to get you ready for the real world....

Being mature means you have to know when to stop arguing and to respect others. You will be
expected to act like an adult even if you aren t one because if you don t learn how to before you
come of age, you won t be respected properly and it will be hard to get through life without being
mature. Being mature is one of the key things to be in life. In addition to the following
expectations you are expected to be when coming of age, being trustworthy is another key
element to life for if you aren t trustworthy it s very likely that you won t get hire or get fired
from the job because how can someone give you a task if they don t trust that you ll do it. Being
trustworthy means to not only tell the truth at all times but to do the right thing when no one is

Argumentative Essay On 2016 Elections
Every four years one person makes history. This one person we will remember for the rest of our
lives because they are the president of the United States. It all starts with the election. The election
shows us who we will be voting for and what they stand for. I m lucky enough to participate in this
2016 election. I m so excited to partake in a part of history. One thing about this election is that I
have strong different feelings about the two biggest candidates, Hillary and Trump.
Hillary belongs in prison. There are no ifs or buts about it, she committed a crime so she should do
the time. There is a huge list of the crimes Hillary potentially committed; including conspiracy,
bribery, obstruction of justice, fraud by wire, and more. She did a lot of the crimes Martha Stewart
did, but unlike Martha, Hillary didn t got away with it. That is absolutely against what us, United
States, stands for. Just because Hillary is running for president, that means she can commit crimes
and get away with it? What is our world coming to? We have these laws and for what? So
everyone has to follow them but our president or not even president, but candidate? Anyone that is
a criminal should not be loud to run for the United States. Hillary s crimes aren t the only thing I

need to worry about our people before others, we should be pro life and not pro choice, and we

This is all against what Hillary stands for and that is why I will never vote for Hillary Clinton.
But that is not the only reason why, I will also not be voting for her because she is a criminal and
deserves to be behind bars, not protected in our White

one of the biggest gaming console makers, Nintendo has supplied children all over the world with
the opportunity to escape into a world other than their own, without them having to leave the

Prioritizing roofing system candidates
If you have the responsibility to plan and select an inventory of roofing areas to receive roof
coatings, the timing and priority of the installation is an important step. First you need
information, to make better informed decisions to identify the best roof section candidates and
avoid an installation window that could lower the coating service life or substantially increase the
roof system preparation. All buildings age and deteriorate. Its also common to have deferred
maintenance, a flaw in roof design and or original construction that has impacted the roofing
system performance. No surprise that known problems will also add risk factors to a roof coating
installation. A best practice is to start with a method to maintain good records for the as built roof
system data, defect histories, leak calls and maintenance histories will allow more consistent rating
and ranking of roofing areas.

Evolution Of The Middle Ages
When Petrarch divided history into three periods the classical zenith, the age of cultural rot and
decay, and the age in which there would be a revival of classical values and art he did so with the
conviction that he was living in the middle age. This division was wholly secular, and yet Protestant
leaders of the Reformation began and encouraged the study of the Middle Ages. They sought to
prove that the Catholic churchof the 16th century was doctrinally deviant from the church of
apostolic times and pointed to the Middle Ages as the beginning of that deviance. Voltaire studied
the Middle Ages in the eighteenth century to scorn its thinkers for their lack of reason a result, in
his view, of their emphasis on religion. These perceptions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An era can be transitional between two other culturally dominant periods of history without
being primitive or barbaric. However, the insistence on continuity and the overt rejection of a
decline in the modern study of the Middle Ages has blurred the perception of the era as a
distinctive period. As Edward James discusses in his article, The Rise and Function of the
Concept Late Antiquity, downplaying the crises of the third century, the barbarian invasions, the
fall of the western Roman Empire, and even the mid 500s Black Death may lend credence to the
idea of late antiquity, but it also assumes that the problems of the West were shared by the East. In
my discussion, I focused on the West, but my focus does not contradict my point that the term
Middle Ages as a transitory age does not have to be a negative one for it to still be seen as distinct.
The fact that the Roman Empire and the Italian Renaissance were prominent periods in the
development of European culture does not negate the significance of the social, technological, and
demographic development that occurred in the era between those

Essay on Use of Computers in Medicine
Uses of Computers in the Medical Field
By: Tashauna Roberts
Introduction
In today s society, there is a wide range of computer use. Almost everywhere you go today you
are required to have some sort of basic understanding of how a computer is operated. In my report,
I am going to tell you how computers are used in the field of medicine. There is a wide variety of
use and need for a computer in the medical field. Their uses include storing patient related data,
scanning and imaging the body, and assisting speedy communications. Some of the main points I
will be discussing is why Health Care Professionals use computers, where computers are used in the
Health Care System , and Computer Assisted Surgery. Computers are used by Health ... Show more

In larger office and hospital settings, they also control patient flow, keeping track of who is in
which room or bed, and which rooms and physicians are available for routing patients. Hospital
monitoring equipment is usually based on computer programming. Patient monitoring equipment is
computers that leave the physician free to perform other duties. Emergency alarms, bed beeping
systems, pacemakers, life support systems that monitor and look after patients, and X ray machines
are all examples of equipment using computer technology. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and
computer tomography (CT) use computer software. High resolution images are achieved with the
use of computers and infrared cameras.
Computers are also used in the medical field for Computer Assisted Surgery (CAS). The most
important component of computer assisted surgery is to get an accurate model of the patient. This
can be done like I said previously with a MRI, CT Scan, or Ultrasound. The final objective is the
creation of a 3D dataset that reproduces the exact geometrical situation of the normal and
pathological tissues and structures of that region. Of the available scanning methods, the CT is
preferred, because MRI data sets are known to have volumetric deformations that may lead to
inaccuracies. (As cited in biomed.brown.edu/Courses/BI108/BI108_2005_Groups/04/) Computer
assisted surgery is the beginning of a revolution in surgery, it makes a huge difference in high

Legalization Of Marijuana On A Federal Level
Legalization of marijuana on a federal level may benefit society more than cause it harm. When
people hear the word marijuana, cannabis, hemp, etc. they tend to compare it to dangerous hardcore
drugs. In all reality, unlike these other hardcore drugs, marijuana has many advantages that could
possibly outweigh its negatives. For example, federally legalizing marijuana could stimulate growth
within an economy by allowing the government the opportunity to reduce expenses on prohibition,
create jobs and collect sales tax revenue, create a healthier more organic agriculture through hemp
industrialization, and offer a more natural remedy to alleviate medical symptoms.

the fifth most commonly violated law in the United States. In 2006, FBI databases showed that
more than 80% of the 700,000 plus arrested were charged with possession of marijuana; costing

(National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana, 2007) Repercussions of a marijuana arrest

mandatory drug testing, loss of driving privileges, loss of federal college aid, asset forfeiture,
revocation of professional licenses, loss of certain welfare benefits such as food stamps and
removal from public housing, loss of child custody, etc. (Armentano, 2005) Regardless of whether
marijuana offenders serve time in prison or not, there is a large portion of generally honest integral

The Speaker s Role in Three Poems by Howard, Wyatt, and Raleigh
The speakers in Farewell, False Love, by Sir Walter Raleigh and My Lute, Awake! by Sir Thomas
Wyatt the Elder have similar motivations, although the poems have differing constructs. Each
speaker seeks to unleash his venomous emotions at a woman who has scorned him, by humiliating
her through complicated revenge fantasies and savage metaphors. Through this invective, he hopes
to convince us of this woman s inward ugliness. Raleigh catalogues a long list of conceits for his
false love: she is every horrid thing from a siren song to an idle boy that sleeps in pleasure s lap .

The eloquent My Lute, Awake! is ostensibly addressed to the speakers lute and to his lover, but the
story that he tells of her cruel rejection, and his predictions of her eventual lonely decrepitude,
are clearly meant for our ears, and he is notably aware that we are listening. Although he refers to
his lover as thee, he acknowledges early on that she cannot or will not hear him: As to be heard
where ear is none, / As lead to grave in marble stone / My song may pierce her heart as soon. In
Farewell, False Love, Raleigh does not use the second person, and his motive is obviously to
characterize his faithless love before his public. His metaphors are as creative as they are
damning, and the verse itself is highly structured: the first stanza deals with his lover s dishonesty,
the second with her appearance of sweetness which masks sin ( A poisoned serpent covered all
with flowers. . . A gilded hook that holds a poisoned bait ), and so forth. This is no spontaneous
outpouring of emotion: it s more like a finely tuned, premeditated character assassination.
Raleigh and Wyatt both proclaim stoicism in the face of rejection, contending that they no longer
care for their lovers after having been betrayed and rebuffed. Raleigh concludes his poem with
Dead is the root whence all these fancies grew. Wyatt asks his lute, Should we then sing or sigh or
moan? No, no, my lute for I have done. Care then

Red Dog Analysis
In the Red Dog and The Turning, the theme of loss is an issue used to shape meaning on the idea
of change using specific language choices; the way in which the two themes are seen by the
audience to convey the meaning of change. The two texts use the theme of loss to shape
meaning of change. In red dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people
around him, strengthening the theme of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog
(2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle
ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s life, and the people around him, especially
Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too. The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted
when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm with her family. The audience
sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and impacts the rest of the story.
The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the theme of loss. Not only in
dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The audience sees the
effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re home now boy
Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s voice, a
specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to the
audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the
use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will
cause a huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning
and Red Dog, the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to
create meaning and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these
themes and ideas can be better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme
of loyalty quite extensively in the first story. Biggie and Billy share quite a connection, For a while

The American Dream By John Winthrop
What is the American Dream ? The American Dream has always been characterized by a thriving
job market, opportunities for advancement, stability, etc. It is the pursuit of individual
achievement without consideration for moral or legal restrictions (Angulski, 2013). This idea
dates back as far as 1630 to the puritan colonists. It was first established within a sermon given
by John Winthrop while sailing to Massachusetts. This sermon set into motion the ideals that we
have adapted today enveloping the American Dream . From then on Americans put their faith in
the theory that if you work hard and do the right thing you will manifest your goals and
eventually attain success and comfortability. The dream of the time was to live in a land where
there existed a right to religious freedom and opportunity. This ideal has stuck to this day,
however the validity may is no longer intact. The American Dream is a mere afterthought within
today s society, overtaken by massive debt and loss of opportunity. The American Dream is the
greatest asset we as a country possess, the fact that people from across the world still want to
come to America to fulfill their dreams, to join a society that they see as dynamic, exciting, and
full of potential, is a testament to the great potential of America to improve lives and offer
opportunity for all (Ross, 2016). America is a substantially different world now than it was at the

Portrayal Of Women In Sport
From all corners of the globe, news headlines are becoming much more attentive to the issues
surrounding women in sport. Female athletes are gaining more notoriety in the sports arena.
However, the attention they are receiving, usually pertains to their appearance, rather than their
skill. Further, they are continuously being over sexualized and objectified and for these reasons,
there is a need for sweeping change in the representation of female athletes in the media. This
paper will discuss the portrayal of female athletes in the media, the coverage that women in sport
receive, the current impacts that media has on women in sports, and what measures can be
undertaken to curtail the current trend of the media. Starting with how women are portrayed in
media, Trolan (2013) states that in today s society, individuals are shown magazines, newspapers,
and television programs with articles and photographs, of what it means to be a woman or man
(Trolan, 215). This is remarkably obvious when discussing the world of sport. Although women
have achieved a somewhat higher level of respect in the everyday world, within the sporting world,
they are still viewed as women first and athletes second (Trolan, 215). Krane, Choi, Baird, Aimar,
and Kauer (2004) also articulate that women participating in sport live in two extremely separate
cultures: the sporting culture and the culture in which they face the continual battle between being
an athlete and being a woman. Being viewed as

The Contributions of Doctor Gordon Buck
What determines if a person has left their footprint in the sand? What does a person have to do
in order for their name to be remembered? A person has made their mark in history when their
action affects how people live and think in the years to come. History is made when an
individual has greatly influenced the way people live on a day to day basis. A person has made
history when it is apparent that they have greatly shaped the way people think and the thoughts that
they have about the world around them. With this being said, a man named Gurdon Buck has
shaped the way the medical field is being viewed today. Gurdon Buck, also known as the father of
modern plastic surgery, is recognized for being the first doctor to include pre and post operative
photographs into his publications. Doctor Buck is acknowledged for being the first person to

operations that would minimize scarring. Doctor Buck has made it possible for several surgeries
to take place today because of the knowledge he has passed on. Some of these surgeries include

Ana winds but, both essays vary in numerous ways. The details, tone, and how the message is
being told are ways in which both essays differ. These essays are an example of one topic being
portray through different lights.
In Brush Fire, Thomas begins to convey recollected memories of a day on which she experienced
the Santa Ana winds. She tells the details in chronological order starting from the moment she
woke up and ended in the present tense. Thomas stated, I know this because this morning I awoke
to air so dry that the graze of my nightgown against the down comforter created tiny orange sparks
(Thomas). Thomas ended with a different tense from which she began her essay. She said, We are
here to watch the orange flames color the sunset. (Thomas). She also included details that incite
imagery while talking about the environment of southern California by saying, Chaparral is
gorgeously beautiful from the crooked red brown wood... the sturdy shaft of yucca... with spikes
of creamy blossom, to brilliant orange threads of dodder vine. (Thomas). Didion also uses
imagery but unlike Thomas, Didion conveys the imagery using the future tense. Didion states, ...
we will see smoke back in the canyons, and hear sirens in the night (Didion). The difference in
the way that both essays begin to unfold resonate in the tense that is used. Tone plays an
important role in how the message of each essay is being conveyed. This tone of both essays is
one way in which they differ. Thomas uses a calm, poetic tone whereas Didion uses a more
scientific and intellectual tone. Phrases in which the tone of Thomas text is revealed includes, ... I
smell the odours of burning sagebrush, I can also... watch the flames lick up a hillside... a teenage
couple... lost in embrace, passionate kisses no one seems to notice. We are hear to watch the

Phenylketonuria Case Study
Phenylketonuria
1.Define Phenylketonuria. This is a rare inherited condition where the infant is born without the
capability to properly break down phenylalanine. Also known as PKU. This allows the amino acid
(phenylalanine) to build up in the infant s body. Which means that a diet high in protein can lead to
multiple serious health problems because of the dangerous levels that can build up from the
incapability of breaking down phenylalanine. For someone diagnosed with PKU, it is a lifelong
lifestyle change to follow a diet that limits the intake of phenylalanine which found mostly in
proteins.
2.Causes of PKU. The cause is inherited. It is passed down through families, for the baby to have
the condition, both parents must carry and pass on this defective ... Show more content on

Signs and Symptoms of PKU. Since phenylalanine plays a role in the body s production of melanin,
infants with this condition usually have lighter hair, skin, and eyes than other infants without the
disease. Symptoms include пѓ Delayed mental and social skills, hyperactivity, seizures,
microcephalus, jerking movements of the arms or legs, intellectual disability, tremors, and unusual
positioning of hands.
4.LABS to monitor. PKU is easily diagnosed with a simple blood test. All newborns, by law, must
be screened for PKU. If the test is positive, further blood and urine testing is required to confirm the
diagnosis.
5.Treatments for PKU. Treatment is a diet that is exceptionally low in phenylalanine especially
when the child is growing. The child must follow the diet strictly and have close supervision by a
doctor or registered dietitian. This is a Diet for Life treatment. Phenylalanine is found mostly in
milk, eggs, and other household common foods. As well as phenylalanine, any foods containing
aspartame should also be avoided. Supplements (fish oil) should be taken to help replace the lack
of long chain fatty acids. Other supplements such as carnitine and iron may also be

Why Prostitution Should Be Legalize Prostitution
The act of engaging in sexual activity or intercourse in exchange for payment defines prostitution.
The widely known view of prostitution continues to persist along the lines of immoral, unhealthy,
violent, and discriminating. Many countries criminalize prostitution with the intentions of
eliminating the problem altogether. This, in fact, drove prostitutionunderground making the
problem even messier. No matter the view, the sex work industry will always have a demand. The
networth of prostitution outweighs America s illegal drug and gun trade combined. Therefore,
prostitution isn t going anywhere and remains one of the oldest professions in history. Many
countries have already legalized prostitution including Germany, Greece, New Zealand, Austria, and
Belgium. In doing so, these countries have the capability to maintain a proper work environment
and provide health regulations among many other things. Prostitution should be legalized to ensure
the medical safety of the prostitutes and their clients. Due to the criminalization of prostitution,
prostitutes generally have a higher risk of transferring sexually transmitted diseases. A sexually
transmitted disease, or STD, are diseases or infections that can only travel through a sexual act.
Prostitutes make money from having sex with other people and in order to become prosperous,
they must have sex with several different people. Many clients also refuse to use condoms. The
prostitute will usually be offered more money if they participate in the sexual act without the use of
a condom. Condoms are proven to be highly successful in preventing someone from contracting or
spreading an STD according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. If infected, many
prostitutes are unaware of their condition because they can t afford to visit a healthcare professional
or carry health insurance. The combination of a prostitutes tendency to exchange sexual intercourse
with multiple people and the client s refusal to use condoms opens the prostitute to a greater
possibility of transmitting an STD. Since a medical check up isn t financially an option or required
for the prostitutes, the prostitute may potentially be spreading an STD to their client unknowingly.

Squat Exercise
Knees buckling into the valgus position When performing the back squat, some clients tend to
let their knees collapse and position into a valgus or knock knee position as seen in Figures 8, 9
and 10. The positioning of the knees is dramatically different in these figures as compared to
Figure 18. This may occur during the squat for three reasons: the client s quadriceps femoris
musculature may be too weak, a weakness in posterior chain muscles of the hip extensors and
hamstrings or the client lacks the dorsiflexion in their ankle to perform the squat with the proper
depth necessary to achieve maximal benefit. If there is a weakness in the musculature or a lack of
range of motion in the ankle joint, the client s knees may tend to... Show more content on

Also, during the squat, the patella has its greatest compression force on the femur at 90Лљ. As a
result, if the patella is shifted laterally and there is a higher compressive force on a smaller
surface area, there will be an increase in patellofemoral irritation and shear. In addition to the
patellofemoral pain, increasing the valgus stress in load bearing predisposes the MCL to
increased stress and injury. The MCL accounts for 80% of the valgus restraint on the knee.34
With the addition of weight due to the squat, this then places extra stress on the MCL and over
time, could cause ligament laxity or for the ligament to tear if the stress is too great. This tends to
happen during the ascent phase, where there is a valgus collapse, increased the stress placed on the
MCL. The valgus moment also places increased stress on the ACL during both the initial ascent and
during the full return.1 One way to prevent some of the valgus collapse and medial rotation of the
femur

An Analysis Of La Persistencia De La Memoria
Another surrealist work of art by Salvador Dali is La Persistencia de la Memoria (fig. 2). It was
painted in 1931, and is an oil on canvas. The painting can be found at The Museum of Modern
Art in New York City, NY, with dimensions of 33 x 24.1 cm. La Persistencia de la Memoria (fig. 2)
is Salvador Dali s most famous painting. The oil painting is set in a desert area with a lake or pond
casting off into the background. The rocks in the background are very sharp but the rest of the
background is smooth. The sky is a gentle blue with yellow tones that blend together. On the left
side of the painting, is a rectangular board or platform with a reflective surface. The foreground
includes three clocks that are all melted. One is on a branch... Show more content on

The clocks all look thin and noodle like with the box being rough and wooden. Finally, the white
figure has a smooth exterior with the lashes looking like actual hair. Salvador Dali s painting, La
Persistencia de la Memoria (fig. 2), represents the scientific Freudian influence. Everything
appears to be in a dream like state because nothing makes logical sense (Eggener 36). Each clock
represents a different time in life, whether it is his past, is current state, or his future. The jagged
cracks in the mountains symbolize the rough patches or cracks that one must go through in life
and the reflections in the water and platform show how those mistakes reflect who we are. The
dead tree shows that eventually we all will grow old and die. Lastly, the white figure is Salvador
Dali and how his life is slowly ticking away as well and the eyes are shut because he is reflecting
on it in a dream. The final artwork of Salvador Dali s that exemplifies Surrealism is Portrait de Paul
Eluard (fig. 3). This artwork was painted in 1929 is also an oil on canvas. It can be found in the
Dali Theatre and Museum, Figueres, Spain. The dimensions of Portrait de Paul Eluard (fig. 3)
are 33 x 25 cm. The painting is of a man named Paul Eluard who was a French poet and one of the
founders of Surrealism. Eluard was also Dali s futures wife s boyfriend at the time. Portrait de
Paul Eluard (fig. 3) is full of multiple objects that are all very abstract. The

Bowl With Arabic Inscription
Bowl with Arabic Inscription, Blessing, prosperity, well being, happiness was crafted by an
anonymous ceramicist in the late 10th 11th century in Nishapur, Iran (present day Uzbekistan,
during the Samanid dynasty). The bowl is on display in Gallery 453 Iran and Central Asia (9th
13 th centuries) in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is 14 inches in diameter and stands 4 1/4
inches high. It is earthenware, a ceramic vessel fired from 900 1200В° centigrade. It has been
treated with a white and polychrome slip, a surface treatment that suspends the vessel in water
while the clay is in the leather hard stage. Most likely the slip was used to change the color of the

Around the interior rim there is a vegetative design contained with in two rims, concentric to each
other as well as to both the shape of the bowl and the rim around the illustration in the center of
the bowl. The emphasis of the drawing is on the two figures s clothing and the vegetation on the
rim. Both of these details have the most variation in value and line, while the background of the
illustration is drawn mostly with contours. The clouds are reduced to thick, expressive lines that
refer to the thickness and energy of the calligraphy on the outer sides of the bowl. A sun or moon
is drawn above the boy and woman s heads in a linear style as well. The calligraphy seems as
though it was painted, rather than written, though refers more directly to the actual Chinese
characters than the Arabic inscription does to Arabic characters on the Islamic bowl. The brush
strokes are visible, expressive, and dynamic. In many ways the writing has much more character
and intensity than the carefully drawn illustration at the interior center of the

  • 2. Comparing Love In Inanna And Symposium Love s Contribution to Power in Inanna and Symposium The presence of love and power in intimate relationships is prominent in both the Inanna and the Symposium. Both texts contain examples of intimate relationships that lead to significant effects on the power of those in the relationship. The Inanna and the Symposiumboth illustrate that loveis the greatest possible catalyst for the attainment of power. Love provides individuals with attributes that in turn increase their power. This is illustrated through the courtship of Dumuzi and Inanna and through the speeches regarding love and the apprentice relationships that are found in the Symposium. Inanna s rise from a helpless girl to a powerful goddess is chronicled through the Inanna. She... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 52). Inanna never thought about traveling to the dangerous gates of the underworld before she gained her power. Her rise in power and dominance is notable when comparing her bold decisions as a goddess to her helpless behavior from the beginning of the text. Inanna s drastic gain in dominance is linked to her love life because it occurs directly after her courtship with Dumuzi. Before marrying Dumuzi, Inanna is still very needy and asks her brother Utu who will weave her bridal sheets for her and who will bleach them for her (pg. 31). Although Inanna is at first hesitant to marrying Dumuzi, once they are together, Inanna s sense of dominance and power increases. One example of her increased dominance is the instance when Inanna calls Dumuzi to bed instead of the other way around, saying The bed is ready! ...The bed is waiting! (pg. 42). This instance of Inanna s dominance is significant in relation to her power because it occurs in a Sumerian text where a patriarchal society was prevalent and a woman calling a man to bed would be considered taboo. Many scientists think that creationism shouldn t even be mentioned, for fear of legitimizing what they think is unscientific (Reece). Regardless of all of this, the United States public acceptance of evolution remains low and support for creationism remains high compared to other western countries (Baker). Tension and Suspense the Novel and the Opening Scene of the Film Jaws Peter Benchley wrote Jaws the novel before it was made into a film directed by Steven Spielberg. Jaws is a thriller with the main aim being to build up suspense and tension. In the novel Peter Benchley uses many variations of language techniques to emphasise important points that build up suspense. This increase also gives the effect that whatever is moving through the water is getting closer and speeding up. Then all of a sudden a dramatic picture, from the shark s eye view appears, creeping through the weeds on the seabed. The camera angle is very effective, as the audience moves through the weeds with the shark. The dimly lit darkness of deep underwater which creates an unclear picture has the effect of making the audience anxious as nobody knows what the shark is about to find. The instant that the picture appears, an abrupt increase in the tempo and the volume of the music makes the viewer s heart leap. Amounting tension causes an adrenaline rush and makes the viewer edgy. Suspense is created because the viewer knows that something will happen but does not know when. When the music comes to a climax a horn joins in with the cellos. Horns are generally associated with any kind of hunt and although the audience doesn t yet know that the shark is after the girl the horn adds to the overall nervousness of the atmosphere. Auteurism In The Dark Knight Introduction Considering the collaborative process of filmmaking, especially nowadays in most film production, the concept of there being a singular creative supervisor is debatable. Nonetheless one cannot deny the existence and driving force of directional motifs and instances of thematic and stylistic elements within the work of filmmakers like Tim Burton and Alfred Hitchcock. These directors indicate that within traditions and genres lies the overall definition of an auteur: a director whose inventive traits are listed throughout his or her work like a signature. One of the art pieces that caught my eye was the Head of a Ruler, from ancient Iranian or Mesopotamian times. I chose this figure because the person depicted in the copper head looked like an important figure of the time. The man is well groomed and has an emotionless face, but it also looks like he is portraying a little confidence in his expressionless face. Considering this is a copper statue, I think it is safe to say it was not completed in a short amount of time, leaving me to wonder if the man posed for the figure. Whether he posed for it or not, it still gives off the vibe that he held a high title in society. There was no indication on the display of who the man was or what his role was, only assumptions that supported my ideas that the man was an important figure in that society, possibly a ruler or king. This figure makes me curious in the sense that this man was obviously an important figure during ancient times, but he cannot be identified in modern times. Not coincidentally, this phenomenon coincided with the reign of chief crime lord Al Scarface Capone, who took over from his boss Johnny Torrio in 1925. (Torrio, who was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt in 1924, had retired to Brooklyn.) Prohibition, ushered in by the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1920, had greatly increased the earnings of America s gangsters through bootlegging (the illegal manufacture and sale of alcohol) and speakeasies (illicit drinking establishments), as well as gambling and prostitution. Chicago s gang war reached its bloody climax in the so called St. Valentine s Day Massacre of 1929. One of Capone s longtime enemies, the Irish gangster George Bugs Moran, ran his bootlegging operations out of a garage on the North Side of Chicago. On February 14, seven members of Moran s operation were gunned down while standing lined up, facing the wall of the garage. Some 70 rounds of ammunition were fired. When police officers from Chicago s 36th District arrived, they found one gang member, Frank Gusenberg, barely alive. In the few minutes before he died, they pressed him to reveal what had happened, but Gusenberg wouldn t talk.Police could find only a few eyewitnesses, but eventually concluded that gunmen dressed as police officers had entered the garage and pretended to be arresting the men. • 12. The Sense Of Belonging And Interpersonal Connectivity The sense of belonging and interpersonal connectivity is a widely researched topic in psychology, but controversies have been surrounding it among different researchers (Ma, 2003). Also, it has been defined in various ways . According to Vallerand, sense of belonging has to do with the feeling of connectivity with others in the same environment, often involving identifying oneself with a particular group. When the sense of belonging is deeply rooted within a group, one feels accepted, loved and respected in self image, personally and what they believe in (Booker, 2004; Goodenow, 1993). Baumeister and Leary (1995) acknowledged that sense of belonging has two features: contact and interactions at regular basis and the context of loveand care. Baumeister and Leary said that human beings have a pervasive drive to form and maintain at least a minimum quantity of lasting, positive, and significant interpersonal relationships (Baumeister Leary, 1995, p. 497). The sense of belonging has a lasting effect on one s personality in respect with emotions and other cognitive processes (Baumeister Leary, 1995). When the sense of belonging is at its lowest, students are prone to being engulfed by solitary thoughts, feel lonely and lose interest in many social interaction opportunities (Goodenow, 1993). This in turn is attributed to dwindling academic performance, as the students don t feel accepted and motivated within the social parameters around them (Goodenow, 1993). Considerable ... • 14. The Moral Education Theory Of Punishment I would now like to further demark the limitations of power that the government can have over its citizens with the Parent/ Child versus Law argument presented by Jean Hampton in The Moral Education Theory of Punishment . Hampton says that parents are much more entitled to punish their children than any other institution, and particularly governments, as parents have the role of what Hampton dubs moral paternalism, which is to teach their children the entire content of morality. Other Philosophers such as John Stuart Millhave also rejected a role of paternalism in government and go even further and say that a law cannot restrict what an individual does to himself, specifically, such philosophers as John Stuart Mill have rejected the state s passing any law which would restrict what an individual can do to himself (as opposed to what he can do to another) (John Stuart Mill on Jean Hampton 218 219). This is also a principle that Nozick defends to the right of persons to be left alone and live their own lives, provided they are not violating the rights of others (Nozick 381). These limits agree with the origins of our legislation and I believe are quintessential to creating moral legislation as well as picking which actions are punishable by the state and which are not. In summary, what I find to be a valid moral justification theory of punishment incorporates the above mentioned limitations of law as explained by Hampton and Mill. Furthermore, I would like to ... The large cities are the undeniable core of progress; it is there that the values, needs, ideas emerge, subsequently to spread to the rest of the country. Generally, change in society occurs owing to them and to imitating their experience (Valade, 2007). Durkheim identified two basic sources of cohesion: mechanical solidarity (the case of societies fragmented into family or geographical aggregates) and organic solidarity. • 20. The Impact Of Technological Change On Employment Essay Macroeconomic Written Assignment Unit 7 Definition of structural unemployment: Structural unemployment occurs when employees and employers, for some reason, can t find each other. For instance new technology may be a cause of structural unemployment. A company may require new technology skills that are not met by the candidates in the area, so sometimes the employer decides to relocate certain jobs somewhere else where people are more qualified. Another example is when technology and automation in production causes loss of jobs as well. Also, a company may decide to move its office or production somewhere else (overseas), where the cost of labor is more convenient. All of these situations generate an increase in the unemployment rate, called structural unemployment. Impact of technological change on employment The impact on employment occurs because a change in technology immediately affects the demand of skills requirements. For instance, think about a factory that is going to open a sophisticated new automated production area that would produce something automatically from raw materials into finish goods. In this case, the employer will most likely hire a mechanical engineer in order to fill the position. I made this extreme example just to explain that a technological change has always represented a change in the skill demand in business since the industrial revolution. Hence, with the innovation of technology, from hardware to software, employees at all level need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Meaning Of Coming Of Age Essay The statement coming of age means to me that you are given more responsibility to do different things, you are expected to be more mature and more trust is handed to you. These are just a few of the things that are expected of you when you are coming of age because you are getting closer to being a responsible, mature and trustworthy adult. The reason that I think you are given more responsibility when you are coming of age is because you are getting older and about ready to move out of the house, and when you do there won t be any excuses for not doing things that you are supposed to do because it s on you for not doing what you are supposed to do. Although he refers to his lover as thee, he acknowledges early on that she cannot or will not hear him: As to be heard where ear is none, / As lead to grave in marble stone / My song may pierce her heart as soon. In Farewell, False Love, Raleigh does not use the second person, and his motive is obviously to characterize his faithless love before his public. His metaphors are as creative as they are damning, and the verse itself is highly structured: the first stanza deals with his lover s dishonesty, the second with her appearance of sweetness which masks sin ( A poisoned serpent covered all with flowers. . . A gilded hook that holds a poisoned bait ), and so forth. This is no spontaneous outpouring of emotion: it s more like a finely tuned, premeditated character assassination. Raleigh and Wyatt both proclaim stoicism in the face of rejection, contending that they no longer care for their lovers after having been betrayed and rebuffed. • 41. Brush Fire Analysis Writer , Linda Thomas, in her essay, Brush Fire, discusses the Santa Ana winds experienced in Southern California and how it affects the people and the weather. Well known essayist , Joan Didion, in her essay, The Santa Ana, describes the winds and the effects it has on the way the people behave. Both Thomas and Didion s essayshave a similar subject and circumstance, the Santa Ana winds but, both essays vary in numerous ways. The details, tone, and how the message is being told are ways in which both essays differ. These essays are an example of one topic being portray through different lights. In Brush Fire, Thomas begins to convey recollected memories of a day on which she experienced the Santa Ana winds. She tells the details in chronological order starting from the moment she woke up and ended in the present tense. Thomas stated, I know this because this morning I awoke to air so dry that the graze of my nightgown against the down comforter created tiny orange sparks (Thomas). Thomas ended with a different tense from which she began her essay. She said, We are here to watch the orange flames color the sunset. (Thomas). She also included details that incite imagery while talking about the environment of southern California by saying, Chaparral is gorgeously beautiful from the crooked red brown wood... the sturdy shaft of yucca... with spikes of creamy blossom, to brilliant orange threads of dodder vine. (Thomas). Didion also uses imagery but unlike Thomas, Didion conveys the imagery using the future tense. Didion states, ... we will see smoke back in the canyons, and hear sirens in the night (Didion). The difference in the way that both essays begin to unfold resonate in the tense that is used. Tone plays an important role in how the message of each essay is being conveyed. This tone of both essays is one way in which they differ. Thomas uses a calm, poetic tone whereas Didion uses a more scientific and intellectual tone. Phrases in which the tone of Thomas text is revealed includes, ... I smell the odours of burning sagebrush, I can also... watch the flames lick up a hillside... a teenage couple... lost in embrace, passionate kisses no one seems to notice. • 42. Phenylketonuria Case Study Phenylketonuria 1.Define Phenylketonuria. This is a rare inherited condition where the infant is born without the capability to properly break down phenylalanine. Also known as PKU. This allows the amino acid (phenylalanine) to build up in the infant s body. Which means that a diet high in protein can lead to multiple serious health problems because of the dangerous levels that can build up from the incapability of breaking down phenylalanine. For someone diagnosed with PKU, it is a lifelong lifestyle change to follow a diet that limits the intake of phenylalanine which found mostly in proteins. 2.Causes of PKU. The cause is inherited. • 43. Why Prostitution Should Be Legalize Prostitution The act of engaging in sexual activity or intercourse in exchange for payment defines prostitution. The widely known view of prostitution continues to persist along the lines of immoral, unhealthy, violent, and discriminating. Many countries criminalize prostitution with the intentions of eliminating the problem altogether. This, in fact, drove prostitutionunderground making the problem even messier. No matter the view, the sex work industry will always have a demand. The networth of prostitution outweighs America s illegal drug and gun trade combined. Therefore, prostitution isn t going anywhere and remains one of the oldest professions in history. Many countries have already legalized prostitution including Germany, Greece, New Zealand, Austria, and Belgium. In doing so, these countries have the capability to maintain a proper work environment and provide health regulations among many other things. Prostitution should be legalized to ensure the medical safety of the prostitutes and their clients. Due to the criminalization of prostitution, prostitutes generally have a higher risk of transferring sexually transmitted diseases. A sexually transmitted disease, or STD, are diseases or infections that can only travel through a sexual act. Prostitutes make money from having sex with other people and in order to become prosperous, they must have sex with several different people. Many clients also refuse to use condoms. The prostitute will usually be offered more money if they participate in the sexual act without the use of a condom. Condoms are proven to be highly successful in preventing someone from contracting or spreading an STD according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. If infected, many prostitutes are unaware of their condition because they can t afford to visit a healthcare professional or carry health insurance. The combination of a prostitutes tendency to exchange sexual intercourse with multiple people and the client s refusal to use condoms opens the prostitute to a greater possibility of transmitting an STD. Since a medical check up isn t financially an option or required for the prostitutes, the prostitute may potentially be spreading an STD to their client unknowingly. ... • 44. Squat Exercise Knees buckling into the valgus position When performing the back squat, some clients tend to let their knees collapse and position into a valgus or knock knee position as seen in Figures 8, 9 and 10. The positioning of the knees is dramatically different in these figures as compared to Figure 18. This may occur during the squat for three reasons: the client s quadriceps femoris musculature may be too weak, a weakness in posterior chain muscles of the hip extensors and hamstrings or the client lacks the dorsiflexion in their ankle to perform the squat with the proper depth necessary to achieve maximal benefit. If there is a weakness in the musculature or a lack of range of motion in the ankle joint, the client s knees may tend to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, during the squat, the patella has its greatest compression force on the femur at 90Лљ. As a result, if the patella is shifted laterally and there is a higher compressive force on a smaller surface area, there will be an increase in patellofemoral irritation and shear. In addition to the patellofemoral pain, increasing the valgus stress in load bearing predisposes the MCL to increased stress and injury. The MCL accounts for 80% of the valgus restraint on the knee.34 With the addition of weight due to the squat, this then places extra stress on the MCL and over time, could cause ligament laxity or for the ligament to tear if the stress is too great. This tends to happen during the ascent phase, where there is a valgus collapse, increased the stress placed on the MCL. The valgus moment also places increased stress on the ACL during both the initial ascent and during the full return.1 One way to prevent some of the valgus collapse and medial rotation of the femur ... Salvador Dali s painting, La Persistencia de la Memoria (fig. 2), represents the scientific Freudian influence. Everything appears to be in a dream like state because nothing makes logical sense (Eggener 36). Each clock represents a different time in life, whether it is his past, is current state, or his future. The jagged cracks in the mountains symbolize the rough patches or cracks that one must go through in life and the reflections in the water and platform show how those mistakes reflect who we are. The dead tree shows that eventually we all will grow old and die. Lastly, the white figure is Salvador Dali and how his life is slowly ticking away as well and the eyes are shut because he is reflecting on it in a dream.
