Development and Deployment: The Human FactorBoris Adryan
Thingmonk 2017: End-to-end IoT solutions are often highly integrated. Even small changes to the UX of a product can have profound impact on hardware requirements, while physical constraints such as battery capacity can dictate software architecture. A holistic understanding of IoT is key to efficient implementation, the “T-shaped engineer” the star in every development team. Contrast this to intellectual silos and matrix organisation, and you may see why especially large companies fail to move quickly into IoT. Similar issues strike the application of IoT. Deploying a solution in the enterprise is just a cost factor if processes are not adjusted to leverage the connected device and its data. However, changes in process often affect companies across their entire organisational structure. This can require a change of mindsets, making the success of an IoT solution depending on the human factor.
The proof is in: There's no scientific basis that learning styles or Meyers-Briggs personality types exist. So much of what educators have based adult learning design on is flawed, so what kind of new educational paradigm is needed?
The answer lies in the findings of neuroscientists who show that not only can engagement enhance adult learning, it can aid retention and application. But that depends on how you craft your education design and engagement strategy. This presentation shows you how to use the latest scientific findings on how the brain works and apply it to your educational programs.

Scaling your Tableau - Migrating from Tableau Online to a proper DWH solution...Sergii Khomenko
Initially storing data with Tableau Online storage could sound like a good idea, mainly because you get it for free. From another side Tableau doesn't say they provide a DWH platform, so you can not expect any kind of production use-cases from the storage of Tableau Online. In the talk, we will go through the process of automatically duplicating your Tableau datasources to Amazon Redshift. That will enable us to be more flexible with scaling your data, be sure about backup strategies and many-many more points. We will introduce our python toolchain that helps us in a daily management of our BI.

Teachers have always documented their lessons, through informal note taking and lesson planning. Traditional documentation of jotting down observations and analog documentation have their limitations though. It is time to change the notion and the way we document. Participants will look at tools and techniques, ranging from video and audio recordings to image capturing, screencasting and reflective, hyperlinked documentation that support modern skills and literacies. We will also go beyond text based, disconnected and random documentation to formalize a documentation process that serves several layers deep.
How to Engage Affluent Investors on Social MediaLinkedIn Canada
Why are finance companies increasingly turning to social media to connect with affluent investors? Because the number of HNW individuals in Canada rose 6.5% to a record 298,000 people last year. Of this demographic, 46% already use LinkedIn for financial purposes – indicating that there is an engaged audience on the platform. This presents a clear opportunity for the financial services industry to target HNW individuals when marketing on social media, specifically on LinkedIn.

Reflective practice is the process of actively observing, understanding, and shaping pedagogy. Its associated skills include developing individual insight into the impact and practice of education through critical analysis, instructional design, theoretical grounding, and dialogue with peer educators. Less often discussed is the role of creativity, experimentation, learner engagement, and the disruption of ingrained teaching habits and/or narratives; this keynote will explore strategies for cultivating a more holistic reflective practice in service of enriching and diversifying one’s teaching.
