How Did Socrates Influence Greek Politics
system where a group of people who haven t been elected, rule on the basis of their influence and
power in society. In 404 BC there was a revolt and conflict in Athens sponsored by the Spartans, and
the rule of the 30 tyrants was established. The Solans or law makers were relatives of Plato and Critias
was the uncle of Plato. Tyranny was the method of administration during this phase. Plato wanted to
be a part of the political class as a governor since he was interested in political philosophy. He was
disappointed by the rule of the 30 tyrants and wanted a democratic state.Plato was disappointed when
Socrates was given a sentence to be executed. Socrates was a good Orator and focused on the youth,
keeping in mind their awareness about education and their responsibility towards the state. He ...

The new government that came into existence still had corruption and Tyranny. Socrates was executed
on charges of denouncing the Greek Gods, anti establishment, anti state propaganda and inciting the
people to revolt against the authorities.
Since Plato was the best student of Socrates, he became a soft target. He was asked to leave Athens
and was away from Athens for 12 years. During this time he travelled around the world supposedly to
Egypt, Asia minor, Italy and the Pythagoreans in 388 BC. He met spiritual heads and religious entities
wherever he went. In 387 BC he set up Plato s Academy and at the entrance of the gates were the
words, Let no man ignorant of geometry enter here. Plato was of the opinion that experts should rule
society. For example when we want to make a shoe we go to a cobbler, even though he s looked down
upon in society. But when we seek governance we do not seek expertise or specialization even though
it s not just a shoe to a cobbler but the destiny of our future is in the hands of the governors or rulers.

The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis
The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named
Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from
the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell
him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important
symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper
meaning of the story.
The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings.
When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the
pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He
...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got
married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a
firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier
and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason
the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led
to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing
his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came
home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier,
and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the
water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s
father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to
serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new
beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier:
greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie

Separation Of Powers Of Government
I chose to write my paper on the Separated Powers. I felt that this was a crucial and very important
piece in the Federalist Papers but also what makes this world work. It has been over two hundred
years since the Founding Fathers gathered in Philadelphia, PA to rewrite the constitution, while
rewriting the Constitution, there was one change that they wanted to make most of all and that was
within the new government there would be a Separation of Powers of each branch of government.
They wanted to develop a system that was fair and equal to all and the other part was making a
government that was centered around the Federal government and instead of being centered solely
around the state. In order to accomplish this kind of a government it ... Show more content on

Each branch serves a function and a purpose. The separation of powers is important because it keeps
out absolute powers. If we did not have this separation of powers the government would be weak, they
wouldn t be able to enforce their own laws because they would be worrying about state laws verses
federal laws, instead of keeping everything separated. It would not be fair if we all had one ruler that
makes and decides all the laws and runs the country. I think the most important thing that the
separation of powers does is that is allows the government to make the right decisions, but also hear
other people s opinions and take these opinions into consideration. The individuals that are in charge
must be able to come to an agreement to the laws and pass these powers together. James Madison
described the separation of powers by stating that, There can be no liberty where the legislative and
executive powers are united in the same person or if the power of judging be not separated from the
legislative and executive powers. Based on this statement of James Madison, it clearly shows that a
separation of these powers was essential in order for there to be a sense of independence between each
of these three branches and powers because if there was no liberty between these branches and powers
there would be no equality or fairness in the laws. The first three articles of the Constitution of the
United States of America create the framework

The Influence Of The Film Auteur
According to the Oxford Dictionary of Film Studies, authorship is defined as an approach to film
analysis and criticism that focuses on the ways in which the personal influence, individual sensibility,
and artistic vision of a film s director might be identified in their work (Annette Kuhn and Guy
Westwell 2012:25). The theory at the root of this concept, was first developed in France, in the 1950s,
under the name of politique des auteurs, by director and critic François Truffaut, in his illustrious
essay A Certain Tendency of the French Cinema (1954), originally published in Cahiers du Cinéma.
Throughout this article, Truffaut sided against metteurs en scène, considered mere technicians,
affirming that filmmakers should rather be auteurs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the fundamental subjects of the oeuvre are no more than four. As Kieslowski himself
declared: all my films, [...] are about individuals [...] who don t quite know how to live (1993:79). It is
hence clear, that the theme of individuality is essential in the director s work. In fact, even though his
pictures deal with highly debated issues such as death penalty and the universal values of liberty,
equality and fraternity, they are only concerned with them on a very human, intimate and personal
plane and not a philosophical [...] a political or social one (Kieslowski and Stok 1993:212). Indeed, the
director s chief interests are the feelings and emotions of his characters, the exploration of their
interiority and of their quest to find meaning in life, thus the melancholic contemplative mood of films
such as Blue and Red.
In line with the motif of individuality, is the theme of loneliness. All the protagonists of Kieslowski s
pictures are alone and isolated, often because they have experienced an emotional trauma, such as
abandonment as in A Short Film About Love or the loss of a loved one as in Blue. They live in big
cities, like Paris and Warsaw, but are nonetheless unable to truly connect with others, and limit
themselves to observing life with a voyeuristic

How Does Polar Retreat Affect Polar Bears
Glacier retreat will greatly affect polar and aquatic ecosystems and animals. Most arctic life revolves
around the sea and presence of sea ice. Without the presence of ice, most ecosystems will be recreated.
Polar bears are one species in great danger. Polar bears use sea ice as a birthing and hunting ground,
and also use it to travel from one place to another. As glaciers start to disappear, the mother polar bear
has less access to food; therefore, the chance of survival for her and her young is very slim. The polar
bears chance of reproduction becomes less as the glaciers retreat. As the top of the food chain, their
decline will cause negative effects for each level below them (Review Diagram G). The only way for
polar bears to survive, is by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other animals in danger include arctic seals, seabirds, and walruses. Most arctic seal species are
dependent on sea ice for a birthing ground and place to rest. With the decrease in glaciers, these seals
will become extinct since they directly live on the ice or in the water. Southern seals that have adapted
to live on land, will more likely start to migrate north and take over areas that have experienced
serious glacier retreat. This will create greater competition between seals and ultimately lead to
changes in the food web (Arctic Climate Change). Seabirds, such as ivory gulls, will be impacted by
the absence of ice. These birds regularly nest in the mountainous areas which offer protection for their
young. Also, these birds scavenge for food between the cracks or on the surface of the ice. In the past
20 years, ivory gulls in Canada have experienced a population decline of 90% (Arctic Climate
Change). Walruses will also lose their feeding ground once the ice begins to melt farther. Walruses
normally live on the ice edge where clams, their main source of food, is most

The Structure and Function of Carbohydrates
The structure and function of carbohydrates A carbohydrate is an organic molecule containing only
Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen with the general formula Cn(H20)n. They are made up of individual
molecules called monomers which are joined together by condensation reactions to make a longer
chain called a polymer. Carbohydrates are categorised in to three main groups; monosaccharides,
disaccharides and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides are single sugars and are sweet tasting soluble
substances such as glucose and fructose which are the building blocks for all carbohydrates. They are
used as energy in respiration by being broken down in to carbon dioxide and water. ATP, an immediate
energy source, is released during the glycolysis and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is similar to amylopectin but has many more branches which are shorter. This means that it is
extremely compact and hydrolyses very quickly. A final example of a polysaccharide is cellulose
which is the main constituent of plant cell walls. It has adjacent chains of long, unbranched polymers
of glucose which bond together to form micro fibrils. These layers are orientated in different
directions and interwoven providing rigid cell wall with gaps in layers to provide permeability. The
carbohydrate glucose is formed in the light independent reaction which occurs in the stroma. Carbon
dioxide combines with RuBP to form a highly unstable 6 carbon compound which splits in to two
glycerate 3 phosphates which is then reduced to form two trios phosphate. This can either be recycled
back to RuBP or go on to synthesise glucose. In conclusion, carbohydrates are essential for the storage
of energy, structural support for example as the backbone of DNA and are an intermediate in
respiration e.g. glyceraldehydes. | | | | | | |

Mann Act Case
The volume of Mann Act cases began to decline in the 1930s as juries had become less willing to
convict someone for consensual sex unrelated to prostitution. Although, as late as 1959, a federal
judge still determined that a Mann Act conviction was apt simply for having the intent to violate the
law, as long as the man had crossed state line. He stated, Proof that he accomplished his illicit purpose
is not necessary to conviction. However, the terms of the law have been amended multiple times since
its passage. The Mann Act still exists, but it had become broadly viewed as antiquated by the 1970s.
For example, Jackie Gleason s character, Sheriff Buford T. Justice, planned to charge Burt Reynolds
with the Mann Act for taking Sally Field on a cross country joy ride during the film Smokey and the
Bandit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were valid concerns that this federal agency could abuse its power and those fears were realized
with the Mann Act. Mann Act investigations opened the door for unnecessary snooping into the
personal lives of influential public figures who government officials wanted to subvert. For instance,
the first black heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Johnson, was one of the earliest men to be
convicted under the Mann Act. He had a swagger and lifestyle that was a slap in the face to Jim Crow
standards. In the ring, he taunted his opponents, all of whom were white and one of his victories even
caused a race riot. Furthermore, Johnson also openly dated white women and often had a harem of

Psychological Analysis Of The Sniper
The Sniper Analysis
War can bring many disastrous effects to countries, societies, the economy, and the mentality of those
involved in it. In The Sniper, the protagonist is a republican sniper trying to kill the sniper on the
opposing side of the the Irish civil war. At the end of the story the republican sniper cleverly outsmarts
the opposing sniper, unknowingly killing his brother. Liam O Flaherty s The Sniper conveys the
horrors of war not only by presenting its physical dangers, but also by showing its psychological
effects. The short story The Sniper presents to the reader with the physical dangers of war. The story
takes place in a civil war, where a country is essentially at war with itself. In paragraph nine O
Flaherty writes, The sniper raised his rifle and fire. The head fell heavily on the turret wall. The
woman darted toward the side street. The sniper fired again. The woman whirled around and fell with
a shriek into the gutter. The old woman who was shot by the sniper was an informer for the opposing
side. While she did not pose as a major hazard for the sniper, he believed she was an imminent threat
to his safety and kills the old woman. In paragraph one of the story the author also writes, Here and
there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke through the silence of the night, spasmodically,
like dogs barking on lone farms. These paragraphs show how easily civilians are killed during war. An
old woman who was an informer is quickly

San Diego And The San Andreas Fault System
The city has a mild year round climate with an average of 201 days above 70 degrees. A sign of global
warming is that the average surface temperature of the water has increased 3 degrees since 1950. San
Diego lies on approximately 200 deep canyons and hills, creating small pockets of natural open space
scattered throughout the city and giving it a mountainous geography. Due to this scattered open space,
it causes a significant change in climate over short geographical distances. The San Diego River runs

areas. The city also runs through two fault zones, the Rose Canyon and Point Loma faults, which are

Software Development Methodologies For Software Engineering
Software development methodologies A software development methodology in software engineering
is a framework that is used to structure, plan, and control the process of developing an information
system. A wide variety of such frameworks have evolved over the years, each with its own recognized
strengths and weaknesses. One software developing methodology will not suit all projects
requirements, and best suited should be chosen based on various technical, organizational, project and
team considerations. Most methodologies share some combination of the following stages of software
development: Analyzing the problem Market research Gathering requirements for the proposed
business solution Plan and design the software based solution Implementation (coding) of the software
Testing the software Deployment Maintenance and bug fixing. The goal of this section is to conduct
overview of the most widely used software development methodologies. Waterfall methodology The
traditional approach to software development can be illustrated through the waterfall model which is
time tested and easy to understand. The waterfall model approaches software development in
sequential manner, completing one activity before the other. It brakes up project in stages: requirement
analysis, design, coding and testing, operation and maintenance (see fig. 1 below). Fig. 1: The phases

The Debate Over Unauthorized Use Of A Person s Art Work
In contemporary photography a major issue has been debate over unauthorized use of a person s art
work to create something new. Appropriation is the most frequently used word whenever a body of
work comes into question. Exploring deeper into this phrase used to justifying stealing, may sound
simple on the surface, but appropriation has been a hot topic for many legal battles that can favor
either side. Photographers and other artist are constantly in and out of court, fighting that their works
is being infringed, while others argue originality. What guideline is there to protect someone from
their being considered stolen? Exploring the laws behind appropriation and plagiarism, as well some
photographer that fought on both sides may give a better idea of on how one can protect them. The
first step to understanding the controversy appropriation is to know the definition, The MOCA in Los
Angeles states, To appropriate is to borrow. Appropriation is the practice of creating a new work by
taking a pre existing image from another context art history, advertising, the media and combining that
appropriated image with new ones. Or, a well known artwork by someone else may be represented as
the appropriator s own. Such borrowings can be regarded as the two dimensional equivalent of the
found object. But instead of, say, incorporating that found image into a new collage, the postmodern
appropriator redraws, repaints, or rephotographs it. This definition in itself can leave

The Mosaic Covenant
On Mt Sinai a two sided covenant is sealed. This is a unique moment and crucial for understanding
Jewish attitude to the Laws in the Torah.
Exodus 19:5, IF YOU WILL OBEY MY VOICE AND KEEP MY COVENANT, YOU SHALL BE

Israel agrees to this and becomes Yahweh s people. But the covenant is understood as conditional on

These events made the Jews into a people with a unique identity, bound to each other, to God and to

narrative styles in Melville s Bartleby, Poe s Arthur Gordon Pym, and Hawthorne s The House of

In works by three of the most classically American authors of the nineteenth century, Melville, Poe,

means to their narration. This trait is that of deploying a narrative laden with and moreover led by

In The House of Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne utilizes the conversational approach perhaps the
most overtly of any of the three authors, at times situating the narration in the first person plural,
which thereby has the effect of drawing an assumed commonality between the reader and the party of
the narrator. Indeed his use of we is scattered through the entire book, as in the passage (pg. 139): We

Facial Recognition System
CHAPTER 1 FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM
1.1 INTRODUCTION
A biometrics is, Automated methods of recognizing an individual based on their unique physical or
behavioral characteristics. For example face, fingerprint, signature, voice etc. Face recognition is a
task humans perform remarkably easily and successfully.
In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly
processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show a
similar face existing in database else it is unknown.
Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several
practical problems. It has been a challenging job for the researchers to develop a facial recognition
system with 100% accuracy because of all the difficulties and limitations. As we know that the human
face changes after a short period of time so no facial recognition system can work perfectly after a few
years. It has to be updated with the latest database images of the person in order to verify the person.
Also wearing spectacles, mask, mustaches may also affect the output of the face recognition system.
Face recognition is a biometric which is much easier to understand, because we recognize or identify
different people mostly by their faces. However the recognition process used by the human brain for
identifying faces has not a concrete explanation. It has now become essential to have reliable security

Spaying A Stray Cat Research Paper
Tips For Spaying A Stray Or Feral Cat You Want To Adopt
If you take in a stray or feral cat, you may have difficulty getting the cat to adjust to indoor life. If you
let the cat continue to stay outside most of the time, she may end up having litter after litter of kittens.
Prevent this by having your cat spayed. You can find affordable places to have cats spayed, so even if
you don t intend to keep the cat as an indoor pet, you ll help control the feral cat population and
possibly save your cat from injury and health complications of being in heat and having kittens in the
wild. Here are a few things to know about spaying your stray cat.
Train The Cat To Get In A Carrier
You ll need to get the cat in a carrier to take her to a vet s office. You can partially tame the cat by
slowly getting closer and closer at feeding time. If you feed the cat in or near the carrier, you might be
able to lure her inside that way. If not, you may be able to pick her up and put her inside once she is
used to you handling her. Transporting a wild cat in a car won t be fun for you or the cat, but you can
feel good that you re doing the right thing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Australia, on an island called Tasmania. At first I thought I had stumbled across a pack of wild dogs,
but as I got closer I realized that these are no dog.

The Use Of Rggt Inhibitors Doesn t Exhibit Any Toxicity...
The use of RGGT inhibitors doesn t exhibit any toxicity in mouse models (Taylor et al., 2011). This is
supported by comparison to gunmetal mice that harbour a RGGT mutation leading to 80% reduction
of RGGT function. There are mild dysfunctional phenotypes such as hypopigmentation and altered
platelet synthesis. This suggests that a decreased RGGT activity, such that Rab proteins would be
hypoprenylated, would not be lethal if targeted (Recchi and Seabra, 2012). The decrease in RGGT
activity is only specific to certain tissues, leading to the idea that this mutation does not affect all Rabs
equally (Hume, et al. 2001).

inhibitor of RGGT, whereas BPs are non specific inhibitors of Rab prenylation. They act on farnesyl
diphosphate synthase to inhibit prenylation of a variety of proteins such as Rho and Ras, seen in
Figure 9 (Gong, Altman and Klein, 2011). The use of BPs in clinical trials has been successful in
decreasing mortality from lytic bone disease in multiple myeloma. There is also evidence of anti
tumour effects, such as apoptosis and arresting the cell cycle, as well as in other tumour cell types
associated with bone. BPs have also been investigated in vitro on breast and prostate cancers, as they
commonly metastasise to bone. Studies show inhibition of invasion and adhesion to bone,

In the past females have achieved less well than boys at higher levels in the education system, then
during the 1990 , the girls over took boys at all levels in the education system. The percentage of
females in the UK achieving two or more A levels or equivalent has increased from 20% in 1990 to
42% in 2006. Over the same time period, the percentage of males achieving the same level increased
from 18% to 33%. On the other hand, there still continues to be a large difference in the choice of
subjects by males and females. Even with the national curriculum being restrictive in the lower levels,
meaning both male and females do the same subjects, when they get to a levels and degree level, both
male and females still tend to choose different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, its argued that the improvement of females in education could be the result of the decline of
males, therefore making the gap between gender differences not that significant.
Secondly, the interaction between teachers and male and female students. Sociologist Francis (2000)
argues that classrooms are still male dominated and that boys are disciplined more frequently and
harshly by teachers compared to girls. Therefore, it is seen that boys get more attention than girls as
they are disciplined more harshly than girls, leading to girls getting less attention than boys, also in
terms of ethnicity, boys from African Caribbean backgrounds are also more likely to be disciplined
than white British boys. This may result in boys feeling picked on in school which may result in
gender and ethnic differences in achievement.
On the other hand, many sociologists have argued the importance of external factors in influencing
gender differences in achievement. Feminism strives for equality in society for men and women and
has questioned the typical role of males and females in society and challenges the role of women
being the housewife. Feminists have had a great influence on improving girls self esteem and
aspirations. Sue Sharpe s

Wyatt had heard of them and, although sensing the gambler s urge many an evening, avoided their

¬ Animal Welfare Act 2006
This Act has for the first time introduced legislation for pet owners meaning that the owners have a
legal duty of care to meet the five welfare needs of their pets. The welfare needs are also known as the
five freedoms and they are the basic needs of any animal. The law also applies to people who are
responsible for animals, such as breeders and those who keep working animals. (APGAW. No Date)
¬ The Performing Animals (Regulations) Act 1925
This Act regulates the training and exhibition of performing animals as it requires trainers and
exhibitors of those animals to be registered with the local authority. The premises where animals are
being trained and exhibited can be entered by the police and officers of local authority, which may
include a vet. If the police or the local authority detects cruelty or neglect of the animals the

addition to the students, an Advanced Composition teacher would have only three classes to teach in a
semester, reducing the number of students taught regularly. The teacher has more planning time to
organize a solid lesson. Teachers have fewer preparations and more planning time. They teach three
classes of 90 minutes and plan for one 90 minute period, therefore, 25% of their time can be devoted

Norman Rockwell s The Runaway
Description Norman Rockwell s piece of work, The Runaway, is painted on a canvas. This famous
artwork is known as an oil painting. The Runaway was painted during 1958 and measures 35 x 33 .
This amazing piece of work can currently be found in the Norman Rockwell Museum in his collection
of artworks. This museum is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Normal Rockwell used state
trooper Richard J. Clemens Jr. to model as the state trooper in the painting and used eight year old Ed
Locke to pose as the boy. The painting was created at the Howard Johnson s Restaurant. The Runaway

he may be around the age of eight and has short, almost buzzed cut, blonde hair. This little boy is

wanted to show the importance of keeping children safe and therefore put two fatherly figures in the
painting with the boy. Norman could have painted it with just the boy sitting there alone and a waiter
who ignored him. This would make us think the boy is alone and has no protection. However,
Rockwell did not want that to be the message. Instead he depicted the two men as the boy s protection

Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr. And Ghandi Essay
Cesar Chavez was a great leader that left a legacy in the United States, just like Martin Luther King Jr.
and Ghandi. These great leaders preached for equality and fairness. They were elegant, civilized and
thoughtful about their approach against oppression. Cesar Chavez recognized and praised his
predecessors. He studied and learned from them and their techniques. He used many of the approaches
that MLK and Gandhi used to become successful. Non violence was crucial to Cesar, among many
other principles. Just like in the generations of these great leaders, hostility and oppression still exists
in the world. In the United States, there are racial, ethnic, and religious groups that are still being
oppressed. There are many ways to go about fighting this oppression, at the moment I believe that
many people are doing it wrong. I feel that protestors, activists and other organizations should come
together to learn and organize an elegant, smart, and respectful movement that will lead the affected
groups into a better tomorrow.
Caesar Chavez was at times addressed to as the Mexican Moses as a reference to the biblical story of
the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. Cesar s followers saw themselves as the
Israelites, because farm workers at the time were being oppressed and exploited by farm owners and
other civilians. Even though the affected were Mexicans and Mexican Americans, there was a smaller
population of Filipinos who were also affected. Chavez and his family went

Essay on Individual Verses Society in Song of Solomon
The Individual Verses Society in Song of Solomon
Toni Morrision s novel Song of Solomon contrasts the image of a self made individual with that of an
individual who is the product of his or her society. Since society changes, the man who simply reflects
his social environment changes accordingly. But the true individual s self discovery depends on
achieving consciousness of one s own nature and identity (Middleton 81). This is what differentiates
Pilate and Milkman from Macon and Guitar. There are direct similarities between Milkman s and

Whereas Milkman finds his place and identity through a journey and through self discovey, Guitar
finds his place by immersing himself in society. He grew up with Railroad Tommy and the people in
the Barbershop. This group of men spent their time discussing and complaining about the injustices
that were being done to black men. Guitar reflects the views of urbanized black men, defiant of white
power and authority, and militant in their convictions for change. Morrison intentionally contrasts
Milkman with Guitar to show that the individual is better off discovering his/her self outside of
society. We aren t supposed to like the Seven Days. There is a coldness and a negative connotation

United States and around the world. Policy and laws have been created and maintained and changed to
try and prevent illegal drugs being made in other countries as well as the United States and from being

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) was initiated in schools all over the United States in 1983
to inform students about the effects drugs cause and to make children and their parents more aware of
the drug problem in the U.S. (Frontline). Under Reagan, the federal prison population doubled. Young
offenders and non violent drug users were sent to Special Alternative Incarceration boot camps, where
they were brainwashed with yet more anti drug propaganda, to undermine their subversive attitudes.
The President declared the War on Drugs to be one of the major achievements of his administration,
while the international narcotics trade thrived and cannabis prices sky rocketed. Then in July 1984, the
Washington Times published a story about DEA informant Barry Seal s infiltration of the Medellin
cartel s operation in Panama. The story showed that Nicaraguan Sandinistas were involved in the drug
trade. As a result of Seal s evidence, a Miami federal grand jury indicts Carlos Lehder, Pablo Escobar,
Jorge Ochoa and Jose Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha. In February 1986, Seal is killed in Baton Rouge,

Physical Appearance
The first form of nonverbal communication that plays a significant role in influencing the voting
behavior is the physical appearance of candidates. The analytical study by Olivola and Todorov (2010)
states that today s politics have become so extremely intricate and incomprehensible that it is almost
impossible for voters to genuinely agree to every aspect of the candidates views. For instance, it is
highly conceivable for voters to agree on international and security issues with one candidate and
agree on economic issues with the other candidate at the same time. Hence, the number of the voters
who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of political issues and unmotivated to study candidates policy
as a criterion for making their choice has increased (Olivola Todorov, 2010). In addition, according to
Olivola and Todorov (2010), the field of cognitive psychology indicates that people s minds tend to
simplify decision making process by relying on simple rules when they are confronted with too much
information. As a result, instead of behaving as rational actors and voting reasonably as they are
believed to do so, voters are hugely influenced by and unconsciously opt for irrelevant cues, which in
this case, the candidates physical appearance.

Dramatic Justice In Tartuffe By Myrna Zwillenberg
Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s article Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe examines the all powerful king s
theatrical resolution of the story of Tartuffe . Zwillenberg writes It is so unexpected as to cast doubt
upon the dramatic coherence of the entire comedy (583). Zwillenberg concludes that the deus ex
machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also restores the
comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with Myrna Kogan
Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play in both dramatics
and comedy.
Zwillenberg begins by examining the injustice of Tartuffe and Orgon s actions. Zwillenberg writes
Dramatic justice... would seem to necessitate the punishment of Orgon and the hypocrite (584)
Mariane is unfairly given to marry Tartuffe. Tartuffe seemingly hypnotizes Orgon, and subsequently
runs away with many of his possessions, including the deed to his house. Both of these actions,

hypocrite. If Orgon s family were to triumph in judgement over Tartuffe, there are no consequences
for Orgon s unjust actions towards his family. Likewise, Tartuffe must be put into his place to bring
the story back into equilibrium (584). The king s grand entrance into the story satisfies both of these

agree with the Wall Street Journal. The people should realize that the federal government cannot

should not feel obligated nor should they provide funding to any cities to preserve them from going

some help staying afloat. The story explains the Theory of Constraints and concentrates on bottlenecks
and constraints. The plant manager, and also the main character in the story, is Alex Rogo. In the book,
Alex is depicted as a husband, a father and long time project engineer and plant manager at UniCo
struggling with both his marriage and his manufacturing plant. The main plot of the story starts off
with Bill Peach (Division Vice President) telling Alex that the plant is not profitable. Peach then gives
Alex a three month deadline to improve the plant s performance dramatically and increase profits or
the production plant will shut down. Peach fails to mention that the entire division is under water and
may soon be shut down by corporate. During this challenging time, Alex is also dealing with an
impatient wife at home who is sick and tired of her husband spending so much time at work. She
eventually moves out and Alex is stuck trying to figure out how he can salvage both his marriage and
production plant. When Alex runs into an old Physics Professor, Jonah, he begins to express all of his
challenges at work and is surprised to hear that Jonah is fully aware that the plant is missing deadlines
and experiencing high inventory and expenses. Jonah helps to guide Alex through this challenging
period. Before Alex can tackle the problems, he must first identify the goal.

  • 2. How Did Socrates Influence Greek Politics system where a group of people who haven t been elected, rule on the basis of their influence and power in society. In 404 BC there was a revolt and conflict in Athens sponsored by the Spartans, and the rule of the 30 tyrants was established. The Solans or law makers were relatives of Plato and Critias was the uncle of Plato. Tyranny was the method of administration during this phase. Plato wanted to be a part of the political class as a governor since he was interested in political philosophy. He was disappointed by the rule of the 30 tyrants and wanted a democratic state.Plato was disappointed when Socrates was given a sentence to be executed. Socrates was a good Orator and focused on the youth, keeping in mind their awareness about education and their responsibility towards the state. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new government that came into existence still had corruption and Tyranny. Socrates was executed on charges of denouncing the Greek Gods, anti establishment, anti state propaganda and inciting the people to revolt against the authorities. Since Plato was the best student of Socrates, he became a soft target. He was asked to leave Athens and was away from Athens for 12 years. During this time he travelled around the world supposedly to Egypt, Asia minor, Italy and the Pythagoreans in 388 BC. He met spiritual heads and religious entities wherever he went. In 387 BC he set up Plato s Academy and at the entrance of the gates were the words, Let no man ignorant of geometry enter here. Plato was of the opinion that experts should rule society. For example when we want to make a shoe we go to a cobbler, even though he s looked down upon in society. But when we seek governance we do not seek expertise or specialization even though it s not just a shoe to a cobbler but the destiny of our future is in the hands of the governors or rulers. • 3. The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis The Five People You Meet In Heaven The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper meaning of the story. The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings. When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He ...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier, and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier: greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie ... • 4. Separation Of Powers Of Government I chose to write my paper on the Separated Powers. I felt that this was a crucial and very important piece in the Federalist Papers but also what makes this world work. It has been over two hundred years since the Founding Fathers gathered in Philadelphia, PA to rewrite the constitution, while rewriting the Constitution, there was one change that they wanted to make most of all and that was within the new government there would be a Separation of Powers of each branch of government. They wanted to develop a system that was fair and equal to all and the other part was making a government that was centered around the Federal government and instead of being centered solely around the state. In order to accomplish this kind of a government it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each branch serves a function and a purpose. The separation of powers is important because it keeps out absolute powers. If we did not have this separation of powers the government would be weak, they wouldn t be able to enforce their own laws because they would be worrying about state laws verses federal laws, instead of keeping everything separated. It would not be fair if we all had one ruler that makes and decides all the laws and runs the country. I think the most important thing that the separation of powers does is that is allows the government to make the right decisions, but also hear other people s opinions and take these opinions into consideration. The individuals that are in charge must be able to come to an agreement to the laws and pass these powers together. James Madison described the separation of powers by stating that, There can be no liberty where the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person or if the power of judging be not separated from the legislative and executive powers. Based on this statement of James Madison, it clearly shows that a separation of these powers was essential in order for there to be a sense of independence between each of these three branches and powers because if there was no liberty between these branches and powers there would be no equality or fairness in the laws. The Influence Of The Film Auteur According to the Oxford Dictionary of Film Studies, authorship is defined as an approach to film analysis and criticism that focuses on the ways in which the personal influence, individual sensibility, and artistic vision of a film s director might be identified in their work (Annette Kuhn and Guy Westwell 2012:25). The theory at the root of this concept, was first developed in France, in the 1950s, under the name of politique des auteurs, by director and critic François Truffaut, in his illustrious essay A Certain Tendency of the French Cinema (1954), originally published in Cahiers du Cinéma. Throughout this article, Truffaut sided against metteurs en scène, considered mere technicians, affirming that filmmakers should rather be auteurs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the fundamental subjects of the oeuvre are no more than four. As Kieslowski himself declared: all my films, [...] are about individuals [...] who don t quite know how to live (1993:79). It is hence clear, that the theme of individuality is essential in the director s work. In fact, even though his pictures deal with highly debated issues such as death penalty and the universal values of liberty, equality and fraternity, they are only concerned with them on a very human, intimate and personal plane and not a philosophical [...] a political or social one (Kieslowski and Stok 1993:212). Indeed, the director s chief interests are the feelings and emotions of his characters, the exploration of their interiority and of their quest to find meaning in life, thus the melancholic contemplative mood of films such as Blue and Red. In line with the motif of individuality, is the theme of loneliness. All the protagonists of Kieslowski s pictures are alone and isolated, often because they have experienced an emotional trauma, such as abandonment as in A Short Film About Love or the loss of a loved one as in Blue. • 6. How Does Polar Retreat Affect Polar Bears Glacier retreat will greatly affect polar and aquatic ecosystems and animals. Most arctic life revolves around the sea and presence of sea ice. Without the presence of ice, most ecosystems will be recreated. Polar bears are one species in great danger. Polar bears use sea ice as a birthing and hunting ground, and also use it to travel from one place to another. As glaciers start to disappear, the mother polar bear has less access to food; therefore, the chance of survival for her and her young is very slim. The polar bears chance of reproduction becomes less as the glaciers retreat. As the top of the food chain, their decline will cause negative effects for each level below them (Review Diagram G). Most arctic seal species are dependent on sea ice for a birthing ground and place to rest. With the decrease in glaciers, these seals will become extinct since they directly live on the ice or in the water. Southern seals that have adapted to live on land, will more likely start to migrate north and take over areas that have experienced serious glacier retreat. This will create greater competition between seals and ultimately lead to changes in the food web (Arctic Climate Change). Seabirds, such as ivory gulls, will be impacted by the absence of ice. These birds regularly nest in the mountainous areas which offer protection for their young. Also, these birds scavenge for food between the cracks or on the surface of the ice. In the past 20 years, ivory gulls in Canada have experienced a population decline of 90% (Arctic Climate Change). Walruses will also lose their feeding ground once the ice begins to melt farther. The Structure and Function of Carbohydrates The structure and function of carbohydrates A carbohydrate is an organic molecule containing only Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen with the general formula Cn(H20)n. They are made up of individual molecules called monomers which are joined together by condensation reactions to make a longer chain called a polymer. Carbohydrates are categorised in to three main groups; monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides are single sugars and are sweet tasting soluble substances such as glucose and fructose which are the building blocks for all carbohydrates. These layers are orientated in different directions and interwoven providing rigid cell wall with gaps in layers to provide permeability. The carbohydrate glucose is formed in the light independent reaction which occurs in the stroma. Carbon dioxide combines with RuBP to form a highly unstable 6 carbon compound which splits in to two glycerate 3 phosphates which is then reduced to form two trios phosphate. This can either be recycled back to RuBP or go on to synthesise glucose. Appropriation is the most frequently used word whenever a body of work comes into question. Exploring deeper into this phrase used to justifying stealing, may sound simple on the surface, but appropriation has been a hot topic for many legal battles that can favor either side. Photographers and other artist are constantly in and out of court, fighting that their works is being infringed, while others argue originality. What guideline is there to protect someone from their being considered stolen? Exploring the laws behind appropriation and plagiarism, as well some photographer that fought on both sides may give a better idea of on how one can protect them. • 20. The Use Of Rggt Inhibitors Doesn t Exhibit Any Toxicity... The use of RGGT inhibitors doesn t exhibit any toxicity in mouse models (Taylor et al., 2011). This is supported by comparison to gunmetal mice that harbour a RGGT mutation leading to 80% reduction of RGGT function. There are mild dysfunctional phenotypes such as hypopigmentation and altered platelet synthesis. This suggests that a decreased RGGT activity, such that Rab proteins would be hypoprenylated, would not be lethal if targeted (Recchi and Seabra, 2012). The decrease in RGGT activity is only specific to certain tissues, leading to the idea that this mutation does not affect all Rabs equally (Hume, et al. 2001). NE10790 is a phosphonocarboxylate analogue of the more potent bisphosphonate risedronate (BP RIS), and contains a carboxylate group instead of a phosphonate group. NE10790 is a specific inhibitor of RGGT, whereas BPs are non specific inhibitors of Rab prenylation. They act on farnesyl diphosphate synthase to inhibit prenylation of a variety of proteins such as Rho and Ras, seen in Figure 9 (Gong, Altman and Klein, 2011). The use of BPs in clinical trials has been successful in decreasing mortality from lytic bone disease in multiple myeloma. There is also evidence of anti tumour effects, such as apoptosis and arresting the cell cycle, as well as in other tumour cell types associated with bone. Lingering in the shade of a balcony outside Brennan s Saloon one afternoon, he became aware of loud name calling bouncing back and forth between two men inside the gin mill. From what he deduced, it sounded like a simple case of card game larceny. He didn t pay much attention to the disturbance until Sheriff Whitney and two deputies appeared on the boardwalk and turned into the saloon. A cowboy was telling the sheriff that he had been swindled out of money by the fast hands of gambler Bill Thompson. Both the Thompsons denied it. But, when the lawman threatened to break up the game once and for all, Bill produced a double barreled shotgun from below his chair and, at point blank range, fired a volley into the sheriff s chest. Horrified and dismayed, Wyatt watched the pair of deputies cower into the sidelines, then sulk out the side door without even the decency to take their boss s body off the floor. It was more than Wyatt could take. What kind of a town is this? he snapped at the deputies who now stood meekly across the square. Between them, equally timid, was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Norman Rockwell s The Runaway Description Norman Rockwell s piece of work, The Runaway, is painted on a canvas. This famous artwork is known as an oil painting. The Runaway was painted during 1958 and measures 35 x 33 . This amazing piece of work can currently be found in the Norman Rockwell Museum in his collection of artworks. This museum is located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Normal Rockwell used state trooper Richard J. Clemens Jr. to model as the state trooper in the painting and used eight year old Ed Locke to pose as the boy. The painting was created at the Howard Johnson s Restaurant. The Runaway s scene shows a little boy sitting at a counter. He looks to be the subject of the artwork. He looks like he may be around the age of eight and has short, almost buzzed cut, blonde hair. This little boy is wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans, and a brown belt. His shirt is tucked in and he has what looks like a jacket in his lap. He wanted to show the importance of keeping children safe and therefore put two fatherly figures in the painting with the boy. • 30. Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr. And Ghandi Essay Cesar Chavez was a great leader that left a legacy in the United States, just like Martin Luther King Jr. and Ghandi. These great leaders preached for equality and fairness. They were elegant, civilized and thoughtful about their approach against oppression. Cesar Chavez recognized and praised his predecessors. He studied and learned from them and their techniques. He used many of the approaches that MLK and Gandhi used to become successful. Non violence was crucial to Cesar, among many other principles. Just like in the generations of these great leaders, hostility and oppression still exists in the world. In the United States, there are racial, ethnic, and religious groups that are still being oppressed. There are many ways to go about fighting this oppression, at the moment I believe that many people are doing it wrong. I feel that protestors, activists and other organizations should come together to learn and organize an elegant, smart, and respectful movement that will lead the affected groups into a better tomorrow. Caesar Chavez was at times addressed to as the Mexican Moses as a reference to the biblical story of the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. Cesar s followers saw themselves as the Israelites, because farm workers at the time were being oppressed and exploited by farm owners and other civilians. Essay on Individual Verses Society in Song of Solomon The Individual Verses Society in Song of Solomon Toni Morrision s novel Song of Solomon contrasts the image of a self made individual with that of an individual who is the product of his or her society. Since society changes, the man who simply reflects his social environment changes accordingly. But the true individual s self discovery depends on achieving consciousness of one s own nature and identity (Middleton 81). This is what differentiates Pilate and Milkman from Macon and Guitar. Whereas Milkman finds his place and identity through a journey and through self discovey, Guitar finds his place by immersing himself in society. He grew up with Railroad Tommy and the people in the Barbershop. This group of men spent their time discussing and complaining about the injustices that were being done to black men. Guitar reflects the views of urbanized black men, defiant of white power and authority, and militant in their convictions for change. Morrison intentionally contrasts Milkman with Guitar to show that the individual is better off discovering his/her self outside of society. We aren t supposed to like the Seven Days. There is a coldness and a negative connotation surrounding the barbershop and the Seven Days. Guitar is aware of the problems of society, but he is incapable of expanding beyond the limited views of the Days, and eventually this brings him to consider killing his best friend. Young offenders and non violent drug users were sent to Special Alternative Incarceration boot camps, where they were brainwashed with yet more anti drug propaganda, to undermine their subversive attitudes. The President declared the War on Drugs to be one of the major achievements of his administration, while the international narcotics trade thrived and cannabis prices sky rocketed. The analytical study by Olivola and Todorov (2010) states that today s politics have become so extremely intricate and incomprehensible that it is almost impossible for voters to genuinely agree to every aspect of the candidates views. For instance, it is highly conceivable for voters to agree on international and security issues with one candidate and agree on economic issues with the other candidate at the same time. Hence, the number of the voters who are unfamiliar with the intricacies of political issues and unmotivated to study candidates policy as a criterion for making their choice has increased (Olivola Todorov, 2010). In addition, according to Olivola and Todorov (2010), the field of cognitive psychology indicates that people s minds tend to simplify decision making process by relying on simple rules when they are confronted with too much information. Zwillenberg concludes that the deus ex machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also restores the comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play in both dramatics and comedy.
