Government Spending On Economic Performance Essay
Abstract
Government spending and its influences on economic growth is a hotly debated issues among
professionals. Policymakers are divided between whether an economy can expand or is stripped of its
potential to grow as government spending increase. Spending on for example infrastructure and
defense are constructive, many economists question that public spending has decreasing marginal
benefits and lead to crowding out of the the private sector. Supporters of larger government spending
claim that government programs offer valuable public goods such as education and infrastructure
which would not work efficiently if they were privately owned. Furthermore, an argument advocates
use is that in government spending can boost economic growth by putting money into people s
pockets. Proponents of smaller government have the opposite view. They argue that governments
which are too big destabilize economic growth by not allocating resources to the most efficient user
and take away from the productive sector of the economy to government. This paper evaluates the
influence of government spending on economic performance. It examines the theoretical arguments,
reviews evidence and highlights the latest academic research.

Gospel Of Matthew
Matthew was a publican, a tax collector and government worker, who dropped a lavish lifestyle to be
a disciple of Jesus. His gospel is thought to have many authors, and is in the two source hypothesis
along with Mark and Luke. Matthew also known as Levi, wrote to prove that Jesus Christ was the
Messiah the Jewish people were promised. The Gospel of Matthew has multiple themes found
throughout: Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament, God is grace and judgment. This gospel
cannot be dated exactly. Not much is known about the apostle Matthew, before he was one of the 12

How Did Thomas Edison Won The War Of Currents
In the late 1800s the war of currents was taking place. On one side of the war you had Thomas Edison
and on the other side you had Nikola Tesla, both were competing to see who could discover the best
current. So who won this war or currents, was it Edison or was it Tesla? Thomas Edison is an
American inventor who did many impressive things varying from inventing the phonograph to helping
improve modern day electricity. Edison held the record for having the most patents, which was an
outstanding 1,093 patents. In 1878, Edison started work on what would be one of his greatest

symbolic meaning of the Statue of Liberty? What is the interpretation of the Constitution? Of course, I
learned about the Statue of Liberty and the Constitution in grade school and what it is supposed to

sure, people aren t walking around still referring to their boss as masta or being put into concentration

What is President Kennedy s U.S. balance of payment problem?
In the 1960s, the United States was experiencing the balance of payment problem when its trade
balance was in a substantial deficit, the US dollar was under an attack and a massive amount of gold
flew out of its official reserve. Such issues in the balance of payment if exist for a long time can be a
threat to the whole economy because balance of payment closely interacts with key macroeconomic
variables such as GDP, exchange rates, interest rates and inflation rates. However, it was not an easy
task for the Kennedy government to solve the balance of payment problem as ... Show more content

The third option to solve balance of payment problem was to impose trade barriers and capital control.
On one hand, this would help to restrict import and capital outflow, thereby recover the trade deficit.
On the other hand, this policy was contrary to U.S. effort to liberalize the world trade. Economic
growth of the U.S and its allies would also be affected.
All three options directly address problem of the current accounts and financial and capital accounts.
While deflation and capital control can remedy both current account and financial and capital
accounts, devaluation only has immediate impacts on the current account. (Figure 1 bellow illustrates
direct impacts of each option to these accounts.) However, as exchange rates, interest rates, economic
growth and balance of payments are interacted, when one components of the balance of payment
improves, the other accounts will also recover. For example, when import demand increases, demand
for the dollar also increases, and therefore can prevent the outflow of gold from official reserve. That
being said, all three options can solve U.S balance of payment problem; however, there must be cost
incurred that Kennedy government have to consider.

Can any lesson be drawn from President Kennedy s balance of payment problem in the 1960s to

Martha Stewart and Martha Billes
Entrepreneurs are an essential part of stimulating the economy while creating new businesses as a key
driver in any economy. With entrepreneurship comes struggle and a host of barriers that interfere with
achieving a successful career path. Two prominent female entrepreneurs encountered similar struggles
throughout their careers that dealt with family issues, public and media criticism as well as negative
encounters with the law. With a variety of business approaches and personalities, Martha Stewart, a
highly successful businesswoman, turned everyday household activities into a multi million dollar
empire and Martha Billes, also a richly successful businesswoman, fought hard to take ownership of
Canadian Tire at the age of 61. Both entrepreneurs faced the adversities of being women growing up
in the 1940 s, where society held negative views against them because they were expected to be
domestic stay at home mothers and wives rather than businesswomen, and also based on the many
similar flaws in their career paths such as their numerous times in court, ugly divorces and being
targeted for their stern personalities. However their passion, stern attitudes, and alternate mindsets
inspired and drove them to do whatever it took to succeed, regardless of what critics said. It was
because of their lack of family support, public disapproval, and experiences with the court of law that
developed their similar stern and ambitious personalities that allowed them to become great

Privacy And Privacy Of National Security
Importance of Privacy and Acceptance of National Security The definition of the word privacy,
according to Dictionary.com is, The state of being apart from other people or concealed from their
view . The right to feel safe and secure is one that citizens are privileged to have. Although the
Government s use of spying techniques is an invasion of privacy some would argue that the positive
effects far outweigh the negative. The ability to increase security, prevent attacks, and provide safety
to citizens are just some of the positive effects of Government surveillance. Freedom of privacy comes
with being an American, but some citizens are not ready to give up that basic right for added
protection (Mullikin and Rahman). There has to be a balance of privacy for some and security for
others. There are many tools used by the Government to keep its citizens safe. One of the more talked
about and effective tools is wiretapping. The ultimate goal in wiretapping is to collect data on a
specific individual, usually someone that is a high risk suspect. A wiretap can be manually or digitally
placed, then the necessary data can be gathered. Although wiretapping has been around since the 1890
s it really gathered relevance in 2001 with the Bush administration (Mullikin and Rahman). On

Our Society Is The Waste Of Money
In an increasingly accessible world, people often take material objects for granted. As technology
progresses, people become obsessed with obtaining newer products. Every time Apple announces a
new product, everyone eagerly awaits its release. One of these products is the iPhone. Unfortunately,
the iPhone that symbolizes convenient communication and social progress also represents the material
obsession that is a characteristic of contemporary society. Even though there are positive and negative
connotations of materialistic obsession, ultimately, the symbol of the iPhone represents the distressing
side of our society. One of the most prevalent issues in our society is the waste of money. The iPhone
became the icon, the trend that everyone needs to get their hands on, no matter the cost. People used to
replace their phones only when they were damaged, but now they replace them for no reason except
the desire for something new. The cheapest price for a new iPhone 7 with 32GB is $649 plus tax. This
means that if people wants more gigabytes or accessories, the price would be significantly higher.
Even though iPhones are useful, the money spent on unnecessary replacements is wasteful. According
to CNN, a Chinese billionaire s son, Wang Sicong purchased eight iPhone 7 handsets for his dog on
the day of the release (Griffiths). He has taken the lavish spending of money to a new level. In fact,
this is not the first time he wastefully spent money. Wang Sicong previously

A Separate Peace Movie Vs Book
There are so many changes between the book and the movie. The book was a lot better than the movie
I think. When a producer makes a movie out of a book, they take the most interesting things from the
book and just erase the rest of it. Us book lovers absolutely hate when they go to watch a movie based
off a book they love and they leave out the most important details. The book first opens up with Frank
Bryce s history, about how he was accused of murdering the Riddle family he worked for, many years
ago. This is omitted from the movie. Bertha Jorkins, the Ministry employee that Wormtail and

Weasley gives Ron his dress robes before the start of school, but as Mrs. Weasley is omitted from this

is throwing water balloons at the students as they are gathered in the hall, and they see the sorting
ceremony for the new first years, but this is omitted from the movie. In the book, the Sorting Hat sings
a new song about the history of Hogwarts and the Founders which is not shown in the movie. The
arrival of the Durmstrang and Beauxbatons schools occurs on 30th of October and not on the 1st of
September as in the movie. Padma Patil is in Ravenclaw and not in Gryffindor. Malfoy as a ferret
scene is very extended in the movie. In the movie, Moody demonstrates the three Unforgivable Curses
on a single spider, ultimately killing it. In the book, he uses a different spider for each one, and later is
also shown using the Imperius Curse on students in order to teach them how to overcome its effects.
Madame Maxime is said to be the same height as Hagrid, while in the movie she s noticeable taller.
The movie implies that Durmstrang is an all boy school and Beauxbatons all girl, the book however,
portraits both school as mixed gender schools, as a boy is shown in Beauxbatons and a girl is shown in
Durmstrang. Neither school does any presentation when they arrive. Fleur Delacour as a part Veela is
omitted. Probably because the Veela and all the explanations given about them at the World Cup are
also not present. Also, the Beauxbatons pupils are rather unhappy about being at Hogwarts. Fred and
George are not the only students to try to find a way around the age line on the Goblet of Fire. When

Truth In The Colbert Report
True, as it is defined today as in accordance with fact or reality , was first recorded c.1200 (Online
Etymology Dictionary). True derives from the Old English triewe (West Saxon), treowe (Mercian),
meaning, faithful and trustworthy, from the Proto Germanic word trewwjaz, meaning having or
characterized by good faith . True, along with firm , strong , and sure is ultimately rooted in PIE dru,
meaning tree and steadfast as an oak (Online Etymology Dictionary). In mid 14c, truth was first
defined to denote a sense of something that is true , particularly in contrast to lie (Harper, 2017).
Historically, truth and what is true was a notion rooted in factual evidence and reality. In alignment

In 2009, the Nigerian writer Chimanda Ngozi Adichie presented a TED Talk where she spoke about
the danger of a single story . Upon moving to America from Nigeria, Adichie was surprised to
discover that American media presented a single image of Africa as an AIDS invested, poverty
stricken, catastrophic country (Adichie, 2009). The TED talk explains that truth is often incomplete, as
stereotypes and single stories are repeated indefinitely until they become accepted as fact. Virtual
algorithms effectively work to craft the illusion that there is only one narrative, as social media users
are entrapped in a filter bubble where they can only see content that aligns with their previously
tracked interests and beliefs (The Economist, 2016). As such, one s entire online world is crafted to
adhere and reinforce their believed truths, yet in reality, the content shown is only a small portion of
reality. When we reject the single story, when we realize that there is never a single story about any
place , Adichie claims, we regain a kind paradise (2009). Thus, For Adichie, the search for truth in a
world filled with untruthful stereotypes is a pursuit for paradise. In other words, exposing truth will set

Aristotle on Justice
In this paper, I shall address two central contemporary criticisms of Aristotle s conception of justice.
These criticisms of Aristotle s account of specific justice have focused on two central problems. First,
Aristotle s insistence that all specifically unjust actions are motivated by pleonexia Pleonexia can be
understood as the desire to have more of some socially availablegood, and is usually translated as
greed or acquisitiveness.
Close . Second, Aristotle does not identify a deficient vice with respect to justice. This violates his
golden mean doctrine with respect to virtue. Without the identification of the deficient vice with
respect to justice, then justice must not be a virtue of character. Due to considerations of ... Show more

Defending one s home, fighting against invaders, when they are attacking the state to preserve one s
family and friends is an example of the application of these qualifications on the virtue of courage.
Considering how this action affects the overall well being of others, we are considering how the action
is generally just. In sum, the distinction being made here is that the same virtue can be seen all by
itself, as a part of the character of an individual only, and where the virtue is in relation to another
person in a particular political community, and its effects on the well being of others in that political
community. We have the same state considered from different perspectives. Aristotle says that justice
is spoken of in two ways: as lawful and as fair. I will discuss general justice first in order to
distinguish it from specific justice. Generally speaking, general justice is concerned with the common
good of the community. In the Politics, Aristotle refers to justice as being a communal virtue.
Similarly, then, we shall say that virtue has a just claim in the dispute, since [general] justice, we say,
is a communal (koinoniken) virtue, which all the other virtues necessarily accompany (Pol.1283a36 39

specific justice. I shall discuss the communal or

Greek Theatre And Modern Theatre
Without a doubt, the Greek theatre remains one of the most recognized and distinctive works in the
world. While we associate many features of modern theatre with their Greek counterparts, ancient
theatre was a very different animal. You will be surprised at how much Ancient Greece has influenced
us today. Without such topics such as drama, democracy and the Olympics coming from Ancient
Greece, sport would not be important. Drama was a huge part of ancient Greece. Theatre then became
extremely popular performed everywhere including festivals. Greek Tragedy and Comedy was
significantly important as not only did it provide entertainment for the ancient Greeks, but has
continued to influence society today, inspiring us to create similar styles of theatre into contemporary
plays today. Within this essay I hope to show how these ancient plays have transitioned into our
modern theatre, and how directors today have morphed them into relevant and relatable productions.
M Cartwright wrote sources which provides us with information on both Greek Comedy and Tragedy.
In the 6th century BCE, Greek tragedy played an important and influential role in theatre. The popular
form of drama was performed all over Greece. The most well known playwrights have come from
Greek tragedy such as Sophocles, and Euripides whose plays remained recognised, and continued to
be performed for years after their original premiere. Comedy was also a popular type of theatre in the
late 6th century. The most famous playwrights of the genre were Aristophanes and Menander and their
works, and those of their contemporaries, poked fun at politicians, philosophers, and fellow artists.
(Cartwright 2017). The source informed me the first appearance of Comedy, pottery in the 6th century,
used for decoration, often portrayed actors dressed as horses, satyrs, and dancers in exaggerated
costumes. (Cartwright 2017). Poetry was also another early source of comedy. Archilochus and
Hipponax were Greek poets whose satyr works used crude and sexual humour. Cartwright explained
in his source that these plays were performed at the City of Dionysia and the Lenaea which were
major religious festivals. Over the course of the festivals, comedies were

The Theme Of Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Anthem, by Ayn Rand, is a book that deals with topics of power, love, and individualism, and societal
and personal differences . The theme of anthem, that individuality must be protected, is widespread
and prominent, referenced throughout the book, from the viewpoint of the main character.
This will go over the character, the time, and the setting in the book, helping to show and understand
the theme because the author can convey plot points and themed information better through the
components of the book themselves, rather than outright stating it in the book.
The character helps understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our
society, because it shows what the emotional and physical links to the society in the book, as well as
the mental states and feelings influencing the text.
The main character is named Equality 7 252 . He described himself as 6 , and he had always been
more interested in the scientific attributes of nature, rather than the job at hand. He held little regard
for the rules of the society, as shown by his disregard to law. The laws say that none among men may
be alone, ever and at any time, for this is the great transgression and the root of all evil. But we have
broken many laws, (Rand )
This character helped understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our
society, since the character is , while struggling to maintain his own individuality. ...and we would
work for our brothers, gladly and willingly, ...What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to
obey?... (Rand). This quote helps support the theme in the novel by showing Equality s individuality
in different parts of the book. At the beginning, he denied his individuality and tried to blend in with
the conformist society, while at the end, he accepts and treasures his individuality. This relates to the
theme by showing that his individuality is treasured and valued by him.
The character and the setting work together to help find the theme in multiple ways. The characters
lives and works in the setting, while the setting and society helps influence the main character. The
setting shows where the character lives in the world, and how the culture in

Shamanism In Alaska Research Paper
Christian mission in Alaska dates back to around 1794; it might have been a little before this time due
to the Russian fur trade, but it was in 1794 when the first Russian Orthodox missionaries came. The
spread of Christianity in Alaska continued to spread over the years. Alaska Mission for Christ is an
organization that leads many mission teams in different villages of Alaska today. Before Christianity
came to Alaska, Shamanism was a huge part of the Native Alaskan culture. This paper will discuss
Shamanism and its impact, the start of Christian missions in Alaska, as well as, Alaska Mission for
Christ and its work with Christian Mission today. Before Christianity was introduced to Alaska, the
natives believed and practiced Shamanism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1794, the first Russian Orthodox missionaries came to Alaska to begin further sharing Christianity
to the natives. Many of the Orthodox missionaries defended Alaska Native people. The tsar in St.
Petersburg had always prohibited the poor treatment of Natives, but many fur traders ignored his
orders. Of the missionaries who defended the natives, none [were] more important [than] Ioann
Veniaminov, later named Bishop Innocent, the first Orthodox bishop in Alaska (Alaska Humanities
Forum). Veniaminov worked to translate the Russian Liturgical into the vernacular of the people and
continued to learn about their culture, he also helped out with giving vaccinations when there was a
smallpox epidemic. Veniaminov cared for the natives and took care of them and learned their culture
and language instead of forcing his upon them. In 1870, a Presbyterian missionary came to Alaska.
This missionary s name was Sheldon Jackson and not only shared Christianity with the natives, but
was also heavily involved in their educational programs. Jackson had no problem in mixing religion
with education when it came to establishing churches in Alaska, converting the natives and starting
schools. Jackson actively discouraged the use of indigenous languages, traditional cultures and
spiritualties (Andersen). Jackson is a complete 180 compared to Veniaminov. Missionaries were paid
from government educational funds to run their schools, while the goal of their teaching was not only
to educate but to evangelize. Even though Jackson s actions did not seem the best, the effects of [his]
allocations to Protestant missionary work is [still] evident by thriving Protestant churches of different
kinds in villages relatively close together (Andersen). These were two main groups in the beginning of

Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing Essay
Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing
I would like to take this time to explain my position on Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing. I
will show both pros and cons for each topic, as well as give you my personal brief on which one I
support.
There are two types of plea bargains : The first one is a charge bargain. When the prosecutor allows a
defendant to quot;plead guilty to a lesser charge , or to only some of the charges that have been filed
against him. For example, a defendant charged with burglary may be offered the opportunity to plead
guilty to quot;attempted burglary quot;. A defendant charged with Drunk Driving and Driving with
License Suspended may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty to just the drunk driving ... Show

I do not agree that we should offer someone a sentence bargain. If the individual committed the crime
then he/she should have to do the time. So, when Justice Stewart wrote in Blackledge v. Allison that
plea bargaining can benefit all concerned , I think that is only partly correct. Sure it benefits
defendants, prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges, but what about the victims or their families. I
like what District Attorney Gibbons was trying to do, if it was all or none with no exceptions. The
only time that I feel that plea bargains should not be used is in any murder or rape charge.
The second thing we must look at is mandatory sentencing. I agree that we should have mandatory
sentencing. You can read different studies that it does not work and it takes power away from judges.
Sometimes trial rates and sentencing delays occur because of mandatory sentencing. Just think of how
many repeat offenders we would have if it was not in place. I do think that it is somewhat of a
deterrent for the small time users on the street. Research has shown that it is the low level street
dealers, mules and addicts that this affects most, but if we didn t start with them then where? You must
punish the user just as much as the dealer or kingpins . The dealers would not have any business if it
was not for the users and if we can get to them easier than the main dealers, than I am all for
mandatory sentencing.
As you can see I m for mandatory sentencing and for

Essay on Curling and Team
Curling is a precision team sport similar to bowls or bocce, played on a rectangular sheet of prepared
ice by two teams of four players each, using heavy polished granite stones which players slide down
the ice towards a target area called the house. Points are scored for the number of stones that a team
has closer to the centre of the target than the closest of the other team s stones.
The game is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland, with the first written reference
to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, in February 1541.
In the early history of curling, the rocks were simply flat bottomed river stones which were sometimes
notched or shape; the thrower had little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general the sweepers are responsible for instructing the skip in regards to the weight, or speed of the
rock, and the skip and the thrower instruct regarding aim. Teams confer between throws to determine
where they will attempt to place the next rock.
The process of throwing a rock is known as the delivery. While not mandatory, most curlers deliver
the rock from sliding out from the hack. When sliding out, one must start with one shoe (the one with
the non slippery sole) against one of the hacks . For a right handed curler, this means starting from the
left hack, and vice versa for a left handed curler.
When delivering the rock, it is important to remember that the momentum behind how much weight is
applied to the rock depends on how much leg drive the delivery has. It is usually not wise to push the
rock with the arm, unless absolutely necessary. When in the hack, one must crouch down with the
body lined up and shoulders square with the skip s broom at the other end. While in the hack, one may
hold a broom out for balance. Different curlers hold their broom out in many different fashions. The
broom is held in the hand opposite from the rock, and should be positioned so that the non sweeping
side of the broom is against the ice. This prevents drag which would be caused by the soft head of the
broom dragging against the ice.
Before any delivery, it is important to

Complementarian Versus Egalitarian Theology
Complementarian vs. Egalitarian Theology and Beliefs
Christian views, attitudes and beliefs about gender have always varied with some ideas evolving with
society and others set in tradition, never to change. While some see gender difference as a feminist
issue, others see it as a role requirement set by God. Of course, there are extremists on both sides of
this argument, as well as inter lapping beliefs, but gender issues are still debated by Biblical scholars
often and passionately. Not exclusive to denomination, gender equality is a subject that can be
examined in many ways, but the focus of this paper will be on two types of theologies,
Complementarian and Egalitarian. While both theologies rely on Bible scripture to gain and prove

This view can also be referred to as biblical equality. Egalitarians feel that Bible teaches Christians
equality both genders within all racial and ethnic groups, economic classes, and age groups based on
the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Egalitarian theology interprets scripture with the inference that the teachings of Jesus Christ, through
the Apostle Paul, ended gender specific roles for both genders with regards to the church, ministry and
in marriage. This view explains that God calls each of us to roles within the church with no regard to
race, gender or class. Egalitarians feel that each person should have equal responsibility to use their
talents to follow their calling in order to glorify God, without limitations or rights that are based on
gender. Under this theology, leadership or control in the Church or in the home should not be based on
gender or be male dominated. Egalitarian theory stresses the importance of the Bible teaching
individuals the equality of both genders in the creation and redemption. Nevertheless, in the Lord
woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man,
so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. (1 Corinthians 11:11 12 NIV). There

Tax Payer Laws And Criminal Laws
There are a lot of disorders that arose in the country we live in today and it s all because of our corrupt
system. These laws are tax payer laws and criminal laws in general. In the United States of America,
some citizens can argue that our government is fair enough when it comes to the rate of our taxes and
how the government utilizes the money that we re basically required to pay to them. On the other
hand, however, some individuals can argue that the government spends their tax dollars on things that
our nation doesn t really needs. Being citizens of this country, we sometimes don t get an input on
what the government decides to spend the money on. One controversial topic that has been in and out
of the news for the past few years is the issue of whether or not our tax dollars should be paying for
lawbreakers we have behind bars. Some say that there are better methods for paying or there could
also be less expensive punishments to get the same job done for less. Today, whether it is federal or
state jails in the United States, all jails are paid for using American tax dollars. Some citizens are in
disbelief that our country allows this and some are furious to the fact that we basically are required to
pay for the free meals and housing for convicted felon that has previously broken the law. Paying for
taxes can sometimes be a tad bit stressful, the date April 15, for example. A lot of normal Americans
who complete their own taxes have that date steam pressed into the

Football s Influence On American Culture
High School is closer to the core of the American experience than anything else I can think of. Kurt
Vonnegut
America, the quintessential melting pot, allows us to experience an extraordinary amount of variety in
people when it comes to ethnicity, culture, language, personality, work ethic, and background.
High School consists of all different experiences. Sports have a huge impact on culture in many
countries, but America has uniquely created and enjoyed its own. Obviously, sports such as football
have a tremendous affect on American culture. The Football Friday Night tradition starts in high
school and continues into adulthood with college ball on Saturdays and professional ball on Sundays.
High school reflects the adult experience.

The Role Of Native Americans In Colonial America
During the early colonial period in America, new American settlers did not get along well with the
Natives. The Native people gave the American people many problems when they came to settle in the
New World. Most of these problems included the Natives capturing Americans and keeping them as
hostages during the wars. Depending on the reasons why these Americans were captured and who
captured them, depended on what kind of experience these Americans would have during their
captivity. The Americans experiences would also depend on what gender they were and that would
determine how they were treated and what role they would play in the tribe. During the early colonial
time, there were two important American settlers named Mary Rowlandson and ... Show more content

After her capture, she was used as a slave for a chief named Weetamoo. While she was a slave for
Weetamoo, she had many horrible experiences with him and his tribe. These experiences were due to
her gender role as a woman. The natives treated woman with little to no respect, usually denying them
food and shelter, like in Mary Rowlandson s case. Because Mary had all these bad experiences with
the Natives, she began to call them savages and tell how awful they treated her all because she was a
woman. Like Mary Rowlandson, James Smith was captured during a war between the Natives and
Americans. James Smith was a part of a wagon trail building team along with three hundred plus men.
The wagon trails him and the other men were building, were used for them to travel to their American
tribes during the wars to trade and have shelter. While James was going through the trails to check on
some of the group members, he was captured by Natives. Like Mary Rowlandson again, he was one of
the only ones on the trail building team to survive as a hostage. James Smith was very lucky to be
spared, because Natives thought that white men should be sacrificed and die when they are captured.
James s life was only spared because he made it back to their tribe without lagging behind. This meant
a great amount to the Natives, therefore, they made James into their own and initiated him into their
tribe with what he thought was cruel

Jurassic Park And Bioengineering Law
The legal restriction of genetic modification in real life is very strict. However, in the fictional world
of Jurassic Park, regulation over such things were very minimal and often highly inaccurate compared
to today s standards. Laws set in place today that concern genetic modification would completely
prevent such things like Jurassic Park from happening in the first place. A basic foundation of the
Jurassic Park s view on Bioengineering Law can be found in its introduction when Crichton writes
Third, the work is uncontrolled. No one supervises it. No federal laws regulate it. There is no coherent
government policy (x,Crichton). However this is completely dismissed when applied to real life.

Japanese Internment Necessary
Was the Japanese internment necessary? This question is seldom asked because, from today s
perspective, this act seems cruel and discriminatory. America didn t mindlessly incarcerate Japanese in
Internment camps since one has to remember the context of this time. There was the possibility of
spies like the ones that gave away the location of our ships in Hawaii and a general fear of saboteurs
which caused the Japanese internment to be necessary for our safety and eventually theirs if our
citizens got to the point of lashing out against the Japanese. After the thousands of deaths in the well
known Pearl Harbor and slightly lesser known rape and massacre of Nanking, attack and for the most
part subsequent conquering of the Philippines, Guam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We put 110,000 to 120,000 Japanese in internment camps. The agriculture association and military
advisors pushed Roosevelt to start the Japanese Internment due to Roosevelt only being able to claim,
90% of Japanese Americans considered loyal. . This leaves a whole 10%,11,000 12,000, which could
be spies. These people that could be spies could cause all manner of trouble. Roosevelt also asked a
friend of his to look into the Japanese populace,Curtis Munson, he claimed, There will be no armed
uprising of Japanese. . Where do I start with this sentence. First and foremost, he said there will be no
armed uprising, he never says anything about an unarmed uprising. So, the Japanese could still wage a
rebellion just not armed. Also, this quote is an opinion. This all depends on what a person views as
armed. They might not have traditional weapons but are they still not armed if they take after the
book/movie Frankenstein and attack with pitchforks and fire or attack people with hot pokers and
kitchen knives? This left too much of a possibility of civilians getting hurt. In the written words of

Genetically Modified Foods Should Be Banned
On January 15, 2015 Juan Ramos suffered a violent allergic reaction after eating a bacon lettuce and
tomato sandwich for lunch. He died an hour after being taken to the hospital. The cause of his death
was determined to be sea food allergy. Any chance of cross contamination of his sandwich with sea
food was ruled out after forensic investigation. How did Mr Ramos who was a known allergy sufferer
reach this fate? The answer lay in the tomatoes that he had eaten for lunch; they not only contained
fish related allergens but also contained antibiotic resistant genes which prevented Mr Ramos immune
system from protecting his body (Billups). The question that comes to mind now is how could
something related to seafood be found in a vegetable? This is where genetically modified foods enter
the picture. Genetically modified foods are unnaturally produced. Their consumption has been linked
with several serious health disorders including cancer. Presence of genetically modified food in the
market must be banned. This is a weakly regulated practice and is not only damaging human health
but is also slowly but steadily affecting the environment.
Genetically modified organisms (GMO) were introduced into the market in the 1980 s. In North
America, over 80% of our food contains GMO s ( GMO s and Your Family ). They are created by
splicing the genes of two organisms to introduce the desired characteristics of one organism into the
other. Like in the case of the tomato that Mr Ramos

Although the promotional events succeeded, they continued to look for more. This year Pirate
Concessions wanted to try another promotional event, they went for something that they call the meal

of their entrees are two dollars to two fifty, with chips being one dollar, and a drink being one fifty,
some meals without the meal deal turn out to be five dollars. With the meal deal the customer can save
from fifty cents which the employees strongly encourage them to use in the candy department, all the
way to a dollar which again employees push the candy or a popcorn to finish off their meal. After a
few games management was going to get rid of the meal deal and try some other type of promotional
event. But the meal deal seemed to be a big hit with all of their customers, so they turned this special
event into something they use every game. Now whenever a customer orders an entree employees

The ability to increase security, prevent attacks, and provide safety to citizens are just some of the positive effects of Government surveillance. Freedom of privacy comes with being an American, but some citizens are not ready to give up that basic right for added protection (Mullikin and Rahman). There has to be a balance of privacy for some and security for others. There are many tools used by the Government to keep its citizens safe. One of the more talked about and effective tools is wiretapping. The ultimate goal in wiretapping is to collect data on a specific individual, usually someone that is a high risk suspect. A wiretap can be manually or digitally placed, then the necessary data can be gathered. Although wiretapping has been around since the 1890 s it really gathered relevance in 2001 with the Bush administration (Mullikin and Rahman). • 15. Our Society Is The Waste Of Money In an increasingly accessible world, people often take material objects for granted. As technology progresses, people become obsessed with obtaining newer products. Every time Apple announces a new product, everyone eagerly awaits its release. One of these products is the iPhone. Unfortunately, the iPhone that symbolizes convenient communication and social progress also represents the material obsession that is a characteristic of contemporary society. Even though there are positive and negative connotations of materialistic obsession, ultimately, the symbol of the iPhone represents the distressing side of our society. One of the most prevalent issues in our society is the waste of money. The iPhone became the icon, the trend that everyone needs to get their hands on, no matter the cost. People used to replace their phones only when they were damaged, but now they replace them for no reason except the desire for something new. The cheapest price for a new iPhone 7 with 32GB is $649 plus tax. This means that if people wants more gigabytes or accessories, the price would be significantly higher. Even though iPhones are useful, the money spent on unnecessary replacements is wasteful. According to CNN, a Chinese billionaire s son, Wang Sicong purchased eight iPhone 7 handsets for his dog on the day of the release (Griffiths). True derives from the Old English triewe (West Saxon), treowe (Mercian), meaning, faithful and trustworthy, from the Proto Germanic word trewwjaz, meaning having or characterized by good faith . True, along with firm , strong , and sure is ultimately rooted in PIE dru, meaning tree and steadfast as an oak (Online Etymology Dictionary). In mid 14c, truth was first defined to denote a sense of something that is true , particularly in contrast to lie (Harper, 2017). The TED talk explains that truth is often incomplete, as stereotypes and single stories are repeated indefinitely until they become accepted as fact. Virtual algorithms effectively work to craft the illusion that there is only one narrative, as social media users are entrapped in a filter bubble where they can only see content that aligns with their previously tracked interests and beliefs (The Economist, 2016). These criticisms of Aristotle s account of specific justice have focused on two central problems. First, Aristotle s insistence that all specifically unjust actions are motivated by pleonexia Pleonexia can be understood as the desire to have more of some socially availablegood, and is usually translated as greed or acquisitiveness. Defending one s home, fighting against invaders, when they are attacking the state to preserve one s family and friends is an example of the application of these qualifications on the virtue of courage. Considering how this action affects the overall well being of others, we are considering how the action is generally just. In sum, the distinction being made here is that the same virtue can be seen all by itself, as a part of the character of an individual only, and where the virtue is in relation to another person in a particular political community, and its effects on the well being of others in that political community. We have the same state considered from different perspectives. Aristotle says that justice is spoken of in two ways: as lawful and as fair. I will discuss general justice first in order to distinguish it from specific justice. Generally speaking, general justice is concerned with the common good of the community. In the Politics, Aristotle refers to justice as being a communal virtue. Similarly, then, we shall say that virtue has a just claim in the dispute, since [general] justice, we say, is a communal (koinoniken) virtue, which all the other virtues necessarily accompany (Pol.1283a36 39 trans. • 19. Greek Theatre And Modern Theatre Without a doubt, the Greek theatre remains one of the most recognized and distinctive works in the world. While we associate many features of modern theatre with their Greek counterparts, ancient theatre was a very different animal. You will be surprised at how much Ancient Greece has influenced us today. Without such topics such as drama, democracy and the Olympics coming from Ancient Greece, sport would not be important. Drama was a huge part of ancient Greece. Theatre then became extremely popular performed everywhere including festivals. Greek Tragedy and Comedy was significantly important as not only did it provide entertainment for the ancient Greeks, but has continued to influence society today, inspiring us to create similar styles of theatre into contemporary plays today. Within this essay I hope to show how these ancient plays have transitioned into our modern theatre, and how directors today have morphed them into relevant and relatable productions. M Cartwright wrote sources which provides us with information on both Greek Comedy and Tragedy. In the 6th century BCE, Greek tragedy played an important and influential role in theatre. The popular form of drama was performed all over Greece. The most well known playwrights have come from Greek tragedy such as Sophocles, and Euripides whose plays remained recognised, and continued to be performed for years after their original premiere. Comedy was also a popular type of theatre in the late 6th century. The most famous playwrights of the genre were Aristophanes and Menander and their works, and those of their contemporaries, poked fun at politicians, philosophers, and fellow artists. (Cartwright 2017). The source informed me the first appearance of Comedy, pottery in the 6th century, used for decoration, often portrayed actors dressed as horses, satyrs, and dancers in exaggerated costumes. (Cartwright 2017). Poetry was also another early source of comedy. Archilochus and Hipponax were Greek poets whose satyr works used crude and sexual humour. Cartwright explained in his source that these plays were performed at the City of Dionysia and the Lenaea which were major religious festivals. Over the course of the festivals, comedies were ... The theme of anthem, that individuality must be protected, is widespread and prominent, referenced throughout the book, from the viewpoint of the main character. This will go over the character, the time, and the setting in the book, helping to show and understand the theme because the author can convey plot points and themed information better through the components of the book themselves, rather than outright stating it in the book. The character helps understand the theme in the story, that individuality must be treasured in our society, because it shows what the emotional and physical links to the society in the book, as well as the mental states and feelings influencing the text. The main character is named Equality 7 252 . He described himself as 6 , and he had always been more interested in the scientific attributes of nature, rather than the job at hand. He held little regard for the rules of the society, as shown by his disregard to law. The laws say that none among men may be alone, ever and at any time, for this is the great transgression and the root of all evil. (Rand). This quote helps support the theme in the novel by showing Equality s individuality in different parts of the book. At the beginning, he denied his individuality and tried to blend in with the conformist society, while at the end, he accepts and treasures his individuality. This relates to the theme by showing that his individuality is treasured and valued by him. The character and the setting work together to help find the theme in multiple ways. When the prosecutor allows a defendant to quot;plead guilty to a lesser charge , or to only some of the charges that have been filed against him. I do not agree that we should offer someone a sentence bargain. If the individual committed the crime then he/she should have to do the time. So, when Justice Stewart wrote in Blackledge v. Sure it benefits defendants, prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges, but what about the victims or their families. I like what District Attorney Gibbons was trying to do, if it was all or none with no exceptions. The only time that I feel that plea bargains should not be used is in any murder or rape charge. The second thing we must look at is mandatory sentencing. I agree that we should have mandatory sentencing. You can read different studies that it does not work and it takes power away from judges. Sometimes trial rates and sentencing delays occur because of mandatory sentencing. Just think of how many repeat offenders we would have if it was not in place. Research has shown that it is the low level street dealers, mules and addicts that this affects most, but if we didn t start with them then where? The game is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland, with the first written reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrew, in February 1541. While not mandatory, most curlers deliver the rock from sliding out from the hack. When sliding out, one must start with one shoe (the one with the non slippery sole) against one of the hacks . For a right handed curler, this means starting from the left hack, and vice versa for a left handed curler. When delivering the rock, it is important to remember that the momentum behind how much weight is applied to the rock depends on how much leg drive the delivery has. It is usually not wise to push the rock with the arm, unless absolutely necessary.
