Good Descriptive Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Good Descriptive Essay Examples" can be quite challenging,
requiring a delicate balance between providing insightful analysis and showcasing exemplary
examples. Firstly, one must possess a strong understanding of the elements that constitute a
descriptive essay – vivid language, sensory details, and a clear organizational structure.
The difficulty lies in the meticulous selection of examples that not only illustrate the principles of
descriptive writing but also engage the reader. Identifying examples that cater to a diverse
audience and resonate with various perspectives can be a daunting task. Additionally, the
challenge extends to the analysis, where the writer must delve into the nuances of each example,
highlighting the specific techniques employed by the authors to evoke a sensory experience.
Maintaining coherence throughout the essay poses another hurdle. The writer must seamlessly
transition between discussing individual examples and presenting a cohesive narrative that ties

The Conduct of British Generals in World War One Essay
The Conduct of British Generals in World War One In 1914 the First World War,
or the Great War, broke out in Europe. It involved the two main alliances of Europe
at the time; one alliance was the triple entente with Germany, Austro Hungary and
Serbia, the other alliance, the triple alliances, had Britain, France and Russia
creating a ring of steel around Germany. This war of attrition was to take the lives
of 8.5 million combatants and would change the way warfare was conducted and
portrayed forever, it would involve 65 million men from 30 countries around the
globe and Russia and America would emerge as the two great superpowers of the
20th century. After the war there would be great criticism of... Show more content on

During the battle of Verdun British artillery started to fire upon British infantry
during an attack causing heavy casualties. These were all seen as foolish acts and
it was shown, and still is shown, in various pieces of literature. In source C it
shows the enormity of the killing at the Somme and the differences in losses
between the two sides. It was written by John keegan, who is a qualified historian
and there shouldn t be any reason for bias on his part and in this source he does
contain many facts to support his views so it is quite a reliable source. On the other
hand the generals could not have been tactically inept and blind to the minimal gains
that some attacks were having because as the war progressed new tactics and
innovative ways of attacking were brought to the front line and used with great effect.
Ideas like the rolling barrage where men would creep behind shells that were
continually firing while inching forward, another idea was night attacks where men
would attack enemy positions
Progress Monitoring Assessment
For the progress monitoring assignment, I first reviewed the students assessments
data provide for the assignment, and using the provided decision tree guide I
determined the students levels based on the FSP (RC, Maze, and WA) scores.
Once I had determined their level or box results I filled the decision tree form in
by order of the box results column. I chose to order the results by that column to
help make choosing student groups easier. Once all the students data was filled in
the next step I took was to fill in the suggested curriculum and suggested strategies
for each student based on their maze and word analysis assessment results. Once I
had all that information entered I decided to create an extra column on the decision
tree form... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All groups would meet three times a week, so we would meet every other day to
work on the required skills. I broke my level one students up into two different
groups. Group 1 consists of student 1, student 6, student 15, student 20, and student
23 while group 2 consists of student 9, student 17, student 22, and student 25. All of
group 1 students scored a ninety percentile or higher in reading comprehension (RC)
so I put these students together so I can provide them with more challenging
strategies and higher level skilled work in order to help them continue to grow
academically. Some of the strategies I would use with these students during small
group instruction would be using context clues to, learning new affixes, and root
words to help students read and understand unfamiliar words. I would also work with
these students on different grade appropriate text structures, text features,
summarizing, and main idea to build reading comprehension skills. While my group
2 students are still overall, high leveled students they scored below the ninetieth
percentile but above the eighty fourth percentile. These students would also receive
many of the same instructional strategies that would challenge them, but also help
build upon their existing skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and reasoning
Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim...
In today s world we question the problem of free will and it s understanding. Is the
nature of humanity characterized by the ability to chose for oneself or through our
understanding of physical laws. Is there any room for individuality when and if the
world operates under these fundamental laws or whether God has already created a
path for us to follow? When this question comes up people tend to want to forget
about it. Kurt Vonnegutabjects this illusion of free will in his novel by his use in
characters and having free will. In Slaughterhouse five, Billy Pilgrim question the
Tralfamadorians, Why me? Their response is simply, ...There is no why. The
Tralfamodorians exemplify the role of the other that marks free will as a distinctly
a human characteristic. Billy use s this as a means to cope with the reality that
pain and suffering is a guarantee. Vonnegut repetition of the phrase So it goes ,
supports that free will is question with no answer and desensitizes the major
suffering and deaths throughout the novel. All of the events in his life were simply
uncontrollable and he was able to travel throughout various events in his life easily.
In Chapter One the narrator is speaking with movie maker, Harrison Starr, about the

Eye Of The Beholder
Striving for the Unachievable
Beauty is an imaginary construct created by society. People in society feel a need
to be considered beautiful because they want to fit in, and be admired. The
importance of beauty in society is prominently portrayed in the Twilight Zone
series, episode Eye of the Beholder (1960). This episode tells the tale of a young
woman, Janet, who strives to be accepted in her society because she looks different
than others. Throughout the episode, Janet is trying to change herself to be
accepted by others, yet she is not able to truly conform to the look of her society.
The episode works to show how in society, the gaze of others is so deeply ingrained
in people that it causes them to live for others.
This episode begins by explaining Janet s problem: she is ugly and wants to become
beautiful. When Janet is first introduced, she is under a ... Show more content on

He comes in to tell her that he will take off the bandages soon, and he hopes that
the surgery worked. He too is viewing her under the gaze of others and viewing her
as different because that is how society views her. Although he has the freedom to
choose how he views her, he lives in bad faith because he is subjective to society.
When the doctor leaves the room to talk to the nurse, he realizes that he feels bad
for her. He wants her to be accepted in society, but not how she currently looks.
Besides for demonstrating the gaze of others, he also is living for others by
listening to the views of his society that he appears to disagree with. When he goes
back into the room to take off her bandages, the leader is on the television screen. He
talks about how people need to conform. The leader wants all his citizens to live in
bad faith by living how he wants them to live. Not only is Janet subjected to this
gaze, but this gaze is given because of people s need to conform and live how others
want them to

Deaf President Now
Deaf President Now!
All throughout history when an issue or problem presented it s self to a group of
individuals. Their voices together would bring about change through toil and
determination. However, what if the world couldn t hear your voice or understand
your language? The degree of effort and work for such a group of people would
seem futile. For the students of Gallaudet University, the barrier between the hearing
world and the Deaf world could not have stopped them. On March 6, the decision of
the university s Broad of Trustees to name Elisabeth Ann Ziner, a hearing women

a university founded within deaf culture, be headed by one who was a part of that

Essay on The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt
The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt
We have all heard the excuses before, It s uncomfortable, I m only going around the
corner , I d rather be thrown out of a car than be stuck in a seatbelt, and my
favorite, I m a good driver I don t need to wear one. Well you may be a good driver
but there are situations beyond your control such as bad weather, road conditions and
not to mention other drivers that can affect your safety. Seat belts can mean the
difference between life and death in an auto accident. Wearing a seat beltevery time
you enter a vehicle is not only the smart thing to do it is the right thing because it
saves lives, it s the law and it will save you money.

For the people who use the excuse that They are just going around the corner
should realize that 80% of traffic fatalities occur within a 25 mile radius of your
home and at a speed of 40 miles an hour. Buckling up to drive around the block is
probably the best time to do so. Everyone knows that car crashes can cause death;
yet because people do not buckle up all the time thousands of people still die in
traffic crashes yearly. Seatbelts can save your life in a crash and can reduce your risk
of a serious injury. Seat belts keep drivers and passengers from being ejected
through windows or doors. This is important because your chances of being killed
are five times greater if you are thrown from the vehicle. Thousands of people who
die in car crashes each year might still be alive today if they had only been wearing
their seat belts.
Wearing a seat belt isn t just a good idea; it s the law and many states conduct
heightened enforcement of their seat belt laws. Forty nine states, all except New
Hampshire have mandatory safety belt laws. In most states, these laws cover front
seat occupants only, although belt laws in 16 jurisdictions including New York
cover all rear seat occupants also. New York is one of 19 jurisdictions where belt use
laws are standard, or primary, meaning police may stop vehicles solely for belt law
violations. In 17 states including New York the safety belt defense is allowed,
meaning damages collected by someone in a crash may be reduced
Management Theories During The Industrial Revolution
During the industrial revolution, a number of management theories were introduced
which have helped contribute to our understanding of the structure of management in
the current business setting. These many different theories have assisted managers in
conceptualising new ways of the organisation and managementof their workplace.
Several theories have influenced and contributed to today s modern management
theories, these include the Scientific Management Theory, which was introduced by
Frederick Taylor and the Human Relations Movement developed by Elton Mayo and
his work on the Hawthorne studies. Both of these theories tried to introduce the best
way possible to achieve maximum productivity within the work place. This essay will
discuss the contributions of these theories in the development of the modern
management theory, and in particular, how these past theories have contributed to the
development of the contingency theory, and two separate approaches to modern
management, in the quantitative and behavioural approach.
Scientific management Fredrick Taylor
Several modern management theories have been shown to have their roots stemming
from the ideologies of the scientific management theory. The basic principles of
scientific management include standardised work activity based on measurement and
formulae, workers are matched to tasks, coordination of activities in order to execute
a number of related tasks and separation of planning and execution with the aim of
maximum output. (4) The scientific management theory explores the idea that
managers should manage and the workers should work. The industrial revolution era
brought the need to bring about an increase in the effective rate of output and
productivity and that led to the introduction of the scientific management theory by
Frederick W. Taylor. Taylor was an engineer interested in efficiencies through work
measurement and coordination of tasks and focused on the problems of dividing up
labour tasks. He believed that the most efficient methods for completing a task and
for the selection, development and motivation of employees could be scientifically
determined, Taylor concluded that there was one best way to achieve things (4).
Taylor had four
A Research On Meadow Hills Hospital
Meadow Hills Hospital is a two hundred bed hospital with a large Medical Staff that
serves a population of three hundred thousand. It is one of four similar hospitals in
the region. They do not currently have an EHR, but they re financial systems are
well developed. They have a good amount of money in reserve to spend on any
solution they feel is needed. Historically, their IT function has reported up through
the Chief Financial Officer. This has led to their financial systems being well
developed. But, their Clinical systems are significantly less developed. Clinicians
have been ok with this arrangement. Not having more advanced clinical systems has
allowed them to develop and maintain processes that they are comfortable with. This
is a comfort for the clinicians, but is likely costing the organization money as
records are paper based, not electronic. Also, as they have no CPOE installed, they
are not performing the safety checks, such as drug interaction that can come with
those systems. This is placing an unnecessary risk on patients. Developing an IT
Strategy for Meadow Hills Hospitalwould likely revolve around bolstering the
clinical side of IT. An IT Strategy would assist the organization in knowing how and
where to invest the money stored in their reserves. This can also ensure that their IT
goals are in line with their overall organization goals. As they are currently
organized, IT reports up to the CFO. This is a formula to ensure that IT goals
The Uniform Commercial Code ( Ucc )
The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is just like a whole big book of all the
collection of the lawful regulations and acts. They eventually control the trading s
/behavior and negotiations of businesses. It manages the conveys and/or the selling
of private property, in other terms personal property. UCC doesn t state the trading in
real property. Well overall, the Uniform Commercial Codeinstitutionalizes business
laws within the United Statesof America. Along with that, it also looks for stability in
the states within the country, USA. Also, there are types of contracts, where the
Uniform Commercial Code needs to be applied. Some contracts are the exchange of
goods, leases, bank advance payments, warehouse receipts, and investment... Show

It was brought up, because there was an actual need in the United States to
advance interstate transactions. As of now all the 50 states in the United States
have adopted, the Uniform Commercial Code, but each state has like their own
look towards it, meaning having different variations with the code. The Uniform
Commercial Code was most likely establishing due to two main reasons. Frist, it
was not easy for the business people to negotiate with other business people in
different states. So, they had to make it easier for them to do this process, so they
develop the code. Also, because the lawful and contractual essentials of managing
businesses was not well organized at all. It is basically just used if most states take it
into account, that is why all 50 states have adopted it already, and put it in use.
Now Article 1 from the Uniform Commercial Code is General Provisions. Well the
scope of Article 1 is that it pertains to a sale to the length that it is regulated by a
different article. It states that it is there to expand, clarify, and to update the laws
that regulate the commercial sales, to keep allowing the growth of the commercial
practices directly thorough the acceptance of the parties. Overall, Article 1 just
provides clarity and presentation, where the lack of clash presentations, add as
original acts covering sales and affairs, or else covered under a different article of
the Uniform Commercial Code. So, it just
Escapism in Children s Literature
Children s literature can take many forms, from far fetching science fiction to spell
binding who done it mysteries. One of the most popular ideas presented in these
various forms is that of escapism. The characters in these stories explore quite
complex social issues in ways that are less confrontational then realism. One might
consider why escape is such a central theme; as a child there are numerous benefits to
fantasy, it allows readers to experiment with different views of the world and takes
hypothetical situations and invites them to make connections between this fictive
scenario and their own reality. John Stephens an English professor at Macquarie
University has said Fantasy writing operates through metaphor so that the unfamiliar
is used to stand in for, or comment upon, the familiar.
The use of metaphor in Fantasy makes it more open to different readings and
meanings. Take J.M. Barrie s fantasy novel Alice s Adventures in Wonderland as an
example. Barrie uses his story to transport Alice to an unknown world full of
backwards words and talking animals. This allows Alice to escape the boredom of
picture less books and adult conversations that were beginning to consume her.
Similar in theory is Neil Gaiman s style of writing. Gaiman has produced a number of
Victorian influenced fantasy novels for children, including Coraline. Coraline, like
Alice centers on a young girl entering another world.
Escape can be seem in many books for children but one story in

Euthanized Patients
Who should Euthanized patients?
I have argued that euthanasia is not medical treatment and therefore should not be
administered by physicians. However, I have also acknowledged that terminally ill
patients are entitled to be euthanized if they so desire. This then asks the question of
who should aid in the process? Oregon s Death with Dignity Act, which came into
force in 1997, shows that euthanasia is possible without the direct involvement of
physicians. The group Compassion and Choices has as a part of its mission,
authorize and implement medical aid in dying to allow mentally capable adults in
their final weeks or months of a terminal disease to advance the time of death and
end unbearable suffering . The group works closely with physicians ... Show more

Fraction is defined as a part of a whole. In some other books, it is defined as a
number written in the form ab , where a and b are numbers and b is not equal to zero.
Basic Parts of a Fraction
* Numerator the number above tells how many parts are taken.
* Denominator the number below tells how many equal parts the whole is divided.
* Fraction bar line that separates the two numbers. It also indicates division.
There are several kinds of fraction and they are grouped into two: INDIVIDUAL

Also if the government comes with idea of raising tax we must be prepared to
handle it. In that case we will be forced to raise our prices but in the same way we
will raise our quality to maintain business running smoothly and continue to gain
profit.
Economic factors Our current economy is not quite stable. It stagnating for now,
but it will take years to completely recover from big economic crisis.
Unemployment rate is very high. Our biggest problem are exchange rates that
started to vary insanely. Because of that we became too expensive for some
countries and we starting to lose our customers from there, but in the same way we
became affordable for others so we must quickly adjust to their needs and demands.
Social factors our society health and education level is fair but we are facing with
the fact that most of the young, skilled and educated people are leaving our
country with hope for better life somewhere far away. Since that it will not be easy
and cheap to build or hire skilled labor. We are lack of skilled domestic labor and we
will maybe import some labor from other parts of Croatia or even Europe.
Population growth is decreasing and we have too many old people in retirement. We
will tend to hire young and ambitious people who are willing to work
Giant Dreams, Midget Abilities Essay
David Sedaris writes about his experience taking guitar lessons in Giant Dreams,
Midget Abilities after his father decided that he and his younger sisters should start a
family music group. However, Sedaris has no desire to learn how to play guitar. His
desire lies within singing jingles in the voice of Billie Holiday. Sedaris desire to sing
in the voice of Billie Holiday is probably closely related to his sexual orientation,
being gay, and his father s passion for jazzmusic.
There is an implication of femininity in Sedaris desire to mimic Billie Holiday s
voice. Billie Holiday was an American jazz singer whose career took off in the 1930s.

I d done my solo and would now move on to pursue other equally unsuccessful ways
of getting attention. Singing in the voice of Billie Holiday seemed to be one of the
few ways Sedaris thought he could express his feminine side comfortably.
Unfortunately for him, being shot down by Mancini caused him to dispose of such a
dream.
Sedaris desire to sing like Billie Holiday can also be linked to his father s passion
for jazz music. His father loved jazz music almost to the point of obsessive
compulsiveness, where he d sit down and analyze each note and the timing of the
jazz songs playing on his record player, and although Sedaris claims to also love
jazz, it wasn t enough to convince his father. Because it was the music we d grown
up with, I liked to think that my sisters and I had a genuine appreciation of jazz.
We preferred it over the music our friends were listening to, yet nothing we did or
said could convince my father of our devotion, (p. 17) writes Sedaris. Singing like
Billie Holiday might have been a way for Sedaris to be closer to his father, or at
least allow the two of them to bond in a way based on a common interest. Because
of the controversy about homosexuals, Sedaris probably wasn t open about his
sexuality with his father, thus not feeling close to him. In singing in the style of
Billie Holiday, one could assume that it could be appreciated by any lover of jazz,

were many prominent figures in the Abolition movement that made great strides to
freedom. Most took the route of political campaigning, but a few decided to take a
more direct approach. One said individual is John Brown. John Brownwas a white
abolitionist born in Connecticut who simply grew tired of the pacifist approach
and took up arms with a few volunteers against slavery. Brown was born the son of
Owen Brown, a tanner, in the town of Torrington, Connecticut. The Browns were
conventional evangelicals, and John went to school in Massachusetts to become a
Congregationalist minister. Unfortunately he ran out of money and returned to his
family and opened his own tannery with his brother. He soon started a family and
his tannery was growing to a very successful business. A few years came to pass,
and tragedy struck his family. One of his sons died, Brown became very sick, he
incurred a tremendous amount of debt, and his wife passed shortly after the death
of a newborn son. A year later he would marry 16 year old Mary Ann, and have 13
children, creating a total of 20 children of which only 11 would survive into
adulthood. After moving his family to the town of Franklin Mills, Ohio, he opened
a new tannery but soon fell victim to the Panic of 1837, leaving him in more debt.
He took up horse and sheep breeding, as well as many other efforts to relieve himself
of his debts. Brown was even
The Application Of The Apache Hadoop Open Source
Database...
This paper will outline and describe three vendors that provide the Hadoop NoSQL
database program to enterprises. Each of these companies see themselves as uniquely
different, thus positioning themselves within a market place that has begun to
become highly competitive in the Big Data age. I will provide an outline of the
talking points that will be discussed for each company, starting with a brief
description of the HadoopNoSQL open source databaseprogram, then I will discuss
each company on the evaluation categories, and conclude with options for whether
to move forward with either of these vendors. After the conclusion the reader will
have the information on these vendors and the confidence to be able to decide on
which choice would be best for the business. The Apache Hadoop open source
program that provides a layer of software that can turn a grid of servers into a single
unit has become known as NoSQL, or Not Only SQLdatabase. It provides a parallel
storage and processing framework to run MapReduce, an application module that
runs in two phases, first mapping data then reducing or transforming it. Using the
HDFS or Hadoop Distributed File System, huge data sets are spread across servers,
thus enabling programmers to write application modules and run them in parallel on
the same cluster that stores the data, thus using the power and capacity of all the
CPUs and hard drives. The advantage of Hadoop is that it processes large amounts of
data in seconds, one

destruction. It started with 84 days of not catching anything. He was being crushed

Santiago is not the only person to be destroyed but still successful. Nelson Mandela
was an anti apartheid activist in South Africa. He was arrested for treason, and was
put in prison for about 27 years. He was losing, but he never gave up so when he
was freed he kept trying for equality between the whites and the blacks. His group
was able to finally get the first multi racial election in South Africa and Nelson
Mandela was declared president. He was able to lead apartheid South Africa into a
country of equality. Nelson Mandela was destroyed, but not defeated so he was
able to rise from the murky depths into leading a free nation for the first time. So
in conclusion, destroy really means to damage, while defeat means to give up. A
man can only take a certain amount of destruction before he succumbs to defeat.
So that would mean if a person were defeated, they would not worthy of the title
man. They would have the title coward . Sadly, it is hard to find real men in this
world today, but a few stand out like Nelson Mandela and Gandhi. Santiago is just
an example to the world that there are good people in this
Teen Depression And Suicide
Teen Depression and Suicide
Mother Teresa once said, Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most
terrible poverty. Studies have shown that approximately 20% of teens experience
depression before they reach adulthood. According to the American Psychiatric
Association, depression is a common and serious mental illness that negatively affects
how you feel and act. While it is treatable through therapy or medication, only 1 in 3
teens who suffer from depression receive the treatment they need after their
diagnosis. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young adults ages 15 to
24 in fact, studies have shown that someone takes their own life every 100 minutes.
Young adults with enormous potential are taking their own lives at alarming rates,
and these numbers may very well continue to increase unless we band together as a
society to take action. In order to help teens with depression eliminate the risk of
suicide, doctors must administer depression screenings, teachers must be trained on
how to deal with and respond to mental illnesses, and parents must be educated on
the signs and treatment of depression. One way to help teens with undiagnosed
depression get help is to add screenings for depression to routine doctor checkups
for patients ages 12 to 18. Depression screenings may be presented as a short
questionnaire or a simple conversation with your doctor in which you are asked
about your feelings and behaviors. The process usually takes only five
Water Cycle Effects
The Water Cycle The cause and effects of the water cycle also known as the H2O
cycle. Are extremely significant to the entire world s ecosystem. It is what keeps
everything and everyone alive. In fact, human adult bodies are made up of about
fifty five to sixty five percent water it. We can only live without water for 3 to 6
days and that s only if we are not in hot or exerting situations. I ll start off by
explaining what happens in the water cycleand then I ll explain some of the effects of
it. The water cycle is a process, by which water changes from a liquid to a gas or
vapor. It starts from all the water that is on our planet earth. The sun provides energy
from its heat, this energy breaks down the hydrogen bonds that hold water... Show

In a severe state of drought, it could even cause hunger, dehydration, malnutrition,
wildfires, and even war.
An intensification of the water cycle could also cause more natural disasters
including tropical storms. This could cause severe damage just as we were damaged
a few months ago by the hurricane
The Water Cycle Harvey, Irma, and Maria. (Establishment Survey, 2017). Several
U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands suffered heavy damage from
three major hurricanes in late August and September 2017. This caused so much
damage many families were left crying and grieving for their lost ones including
parents, married partners, brothers, sisters, and children. They were left devastated
without a homes, jobs, and families. Places like Puerto Rico lost all power supply
and must use gasoline power generators to be able to use electricity. So many
resources were lost and destroyed that they had to receive food and water supply
from many other states. Homes and city streets were left flooded under many feet of
water, survivors had to be rescued in boats.

Business Intelligence ( Bi ) And Business Analytics
Business intelligence (BI) and business analytics (BA) (sometimes used
interchangeably) has revolutionized the way businesses use data and can be
contrasted, for the purpose of this essay, in the following way: BI is raw data that
has been transformed into meaningful information that provides historical, current,
and predictive views of business operations and environment, and BA uses data
and statistical methods to provide actionable information for decision makers. BI
explains what is happening, identifies the issue, and provides decisions to be made
and BA explains why an issue is occurring, what will occur, and what actions need
to be taken. At the forefront of BI/BA technology is International Business
Machines (IBM) with a very broad array of related products and services. Among
the more popular products are its flagship analytics product IBM Cognos and its
Predictive Customer Analytics. IBM s Cognos Analytics allows business and IT
professionals to prepare and distribute all types of business reports from all
departments with an organization and access pertinent information such as financial
reports, sales trends, production yields, and inventory on any device on an hourly
basis. IBM also offers a Predictive Customer Intelligence solution, an integrated
software which uses automation to acquire customer information such as buying
behavior, web activity, and social media presence to model and score costumer
behavior and provide customized actions so that a business
Critical Whiteness in Education
Theoretical Framework of the Study
As seen in the previous literature, empirical research in the last twenty years reveals
the positive student outcomes associated to service learning. However, as Susan
Jones (2002) argues, student s ability to actively participate in all aspects of their
service learning experience depends on the intersection of the student s own
background. . . , developmental readiness for such a learning experience, and the
privileging conditions that put a college student in a community service organization
as a volunteer in the first place (p. 13). Accordingly, different complexities may
emerge when students engage with ill structured, complex social issues present in the
community service settings typically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frankenberg (1993) describes Whiteness as multidimensional: First, whiteness is a
location of structural advantage, of race privilege. Second, it is a standpoint and place
from which white people look at ourselves, at others, and at society. Third, whiteness
refers to a set of cultural practices that are usually unmarked and unnamed (p. 1).
Although Whiteness has intangible systems of oppression, inequality, and unearned
advantage that are not necessary seen, heard, or felt; nonetheless, they reproduce and
support the idea of White as the ultimate form of racial identity. Butin (2005)
examines the dynamics of Whiteness, and the extent to which student resistance is
conceptualized as occurring due to dominant students rejection of the exposure and
analysis of these same hidden and/or explicit social, cultural, and academic structures
and practices of the school that privilege and sustains White, middle class norms (p.
117). As such, addressing the dynamics of social problems through readings,
classroom discussions, and community services visits may confront students with
their conditions of privilege, as well as with new epistemologies that do not necessary
resonate with students previous knowledge of the world; therefore, students may feel
uncomfortable, uneasy and unwilling to discuss social issues.

The Musical Gyspy
Gypsy Gypsy is a musical that captured the attention of the audience with
incredible music and a rollercoaster of a storyline. Gypsy was loosely based on the
life of Gypsy Rose Lee, a famous striptease artist at the time that the show was
written. The character of Louise is based on Gypsy Rose Lee and the character of
June based on her sister, June Havoc. Gypsy is about a mother who tries to have her
two daughter perform onstage and make it in show business. In the end you find out
that the mother was just trying to live her dreams through her children. In Act I, the
daughters audition to play in the vaudevillecircuit that goes around the United
States. There mother, Rose, is pushing them to be the best they can be but
normally only focuses on June and not Louise. Rose convinces Herbie to be the
manager for the girls after she takes her fathers plaque to use for money. As time
goes on the act that the girls perform stays the same and is losing interest. Herbie
gets Mr. Goldstone, who represents the Orpheum Circuit, to have a contract with

The As And Ad Model Essay
The AS and AD Model
Aggregate Supply (AS): The total of goods and services produced in an economy at a
given price level (P), and period of time . The AS relation P=P^e (1+Ој)F (1 Y
/AL,Z), explains the effects of output on price level. A higher output results in an
increase in price level hence the upward slope of the AS Curve2. Aggregate Demand
(AD): The total of goods and services demanded in an economy at a given price
level and period of time1. The AD relation Y=Y(M/P,G,T), captures the effect of
price level on output. A lower output leads to higher price level hence the downward
sloping AD curve2.
In the short run output can be below or above natural level, which is caused by
shifts in AS or AD. An economy is in expansion when the level of production (Y),
is above the natural level (Yn) due to increase in Investment, consumer or
government spending. The short run equilibrium is shown in graph 1, by
intersection of the AS and AD curves at point A, where the labour, goods and
financial markets are all in equilibrium. Y and P give the equilibrium level of output
and price level, the positive gap between Y and Yn is called expansionary gap2.
Adjustment: From Short run to Medium run
Overtime the economy will experience adjustment, where Y moves towards Yn.
Looking at graph 2, the short run equilibrium is at point A, where Y Yn and P Pe.
Since P Pe wage setters will increase their expectations of Pe in the future from Pe to
Pe . This will shift the AS curve upward from AS

Locations for a construction project manager can be just about anywhere and there
are lots of possibilities if a person is willing to travel. There are local opportunities
to stay around the area but many larger companies work nationwide and if an
individual wanted to travel, these types of opportunities are available for this
career. For example, my brother did a couple of internships with a construction

also do this by making the handicaps far more extreme then needed. Another
expression of manipulation and control on the society s part is Diana Moon

He goes on to explain that effective, proactive people spend most of their time in
Quadrant II. To accomplish this I would take his advice and try to organize my
week on Sundays and try to delegate responsibility with goals in mind not set ways
that they have to be done. For the interdependence section, the idea of making
emotional deposits as often as possible will allow one to feel better and work more
efficiently with everyone s needs in mind.
The major emotional deposits Covey talks about are; understanding the individual,
attending to little things, keeping commitments, clarifying expectations, and
showing personal integrity. With the help of these habits I feel like I could improve
myself. Understanding someone is very important in everyday activities and
especially in business situations. You need to understand who your consumer is as
well as whom your co workers are. When you understand them on a deeper level you
can relate better and be more productive. Something I ve always believed in is the
attention to little things matter most. It shows people that you do care and pay
attention. This ties in well with keeping commitments because that is something that
is not always a big deal but can mean a lot to people.

The Development Of An Individual s Identity
The development of an individual s identity although it varies among individuals
usually requires both the primary and secondary level of socialization. Whether in
intimate family circles or social institutions, the socialization process that occurs
makes us who we are. On the basis of this, I will explain how agents in both primary
and secondary socialization process has shaped the way I developed myself and how
they will also continue to shape me throughout my life. I will do this by exploring
some tenets of Charles H. Cooley Looking Glass Self, Erik EriksonStages of
Development and Erving Goffman s Dramaturgy and the Presentation of Self. In my
analysis these theories are blended together to highlight their application in the
development of myself.
Coming from a very supportive and stable family (and extended family), my needs
as an infant were met, this allowed me to develop trust that people(especially
family members) will always be there for me. The supportive environment enabled
me to learn self sufficiency and also gain confidence in line with Erikson s first
and second stages of development (Trust vs. mistrust and Autonomy vs Shame and
Doubt). Although I experienced a positive psychosocial crisis in the first stage and
during the early part of the 2nd stage, there was also a negative crisis that spilled
into the 3rd stage (Carl Belanger, 2015). As a Tongue sucking child, my family
expected me to outgrow this during the later part of my Toddlerhood. Failing to

Looking For Books For Business Classes
I went to the school store to buy books and I approached one of the student sellers
and asked for help. She first asked me how she could help me. I then told her I was
looking for books for business classes, so she directed me to the business section
of the store. She then asked me what the CRN was. I told her the CRN and she
found the book. She then asked if I was buying the book today, but I could not buy
the book because it was more expensive than I thought. I told her not today because
of that reason. She then gave me the alternate option, which was to buy the book
online for a cheaper price. So I listened to her advice and brought the book online.
This to me was a great interaction because she didn t let me leave without knowing
all my options, she answer all of my questions, and helped me right away when I
approached her. She used most of the selling sequence.
Today I went to Walmart to buy a laptop fan because I notice my laptop overheated a
lot. I went to the electronic section and I was approached by a man and his name tag
said Larry. He first asked how can I help you today? He was very friendly and
knowledgeable about the product I was asking for. He asked me the price range I was
looking to buy in, and the size and brand of my computer. I told him and he
suggested a laptop fan that is ran by just plugging into the laptop USB port. He
suggested the Tripp Lite NC2003SR Laptop Cooling Pad with 2 Built In USB

Analysis of She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron Essay
Analysis of She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron She Walks in Beauty is a poem in
which the author speaks of the physical beauty of a woman; a female who the
author encountered. This encounter lead him to visualize a great distinct physical
image of her so he began to speak of this phenomenal attractiveness. A special
quality in her was being able to be identified with the heaven. Beautiful like the stars
and clearly visible as a cloudless night. The poem ?She Walks in Beauty? came by as
an inspiration to the author. This occurred at an event attended by the author where
he meet his cousin which is the woman the author speaks about in the poem. The
author lord Byron wrote this poem which is found in the Hebrew Melodies.... Show

Byron?s most famous lyrics, which is ? She Walks in Beauty?. After having a

The Death Of The United States Air Force
There has never been a moment in my life that wasn t colored with thoughts of
other people. My earliest memories are of butchering hogs on the farm, loading all
the meat into huge coolers in the back of my mom s truck to give away to the
families of the disabled children she cared for. When I was 15 I started
volunteering in a local nursing home and my senior year of high school I took half
days so I could start pursuing a nursing degree through the local community
college. So it seemed only natural that I continued the tradition of service before
self by joining the United States Air Force. I can t even express how much I loved
my job and I was good at it. I truly thought I had found my path. So it was like
mourning a death when an adverse reaction to a vaccine left me with a rare
disorder, a pacemaker and a medical retirement. The loss of my career, the demise
of my health and the havoc both wrought on my life led me down a dark road. It
wasn t until I realized that the silver lining in the situation was having the freedom
and financial independence to spend my time finding ways to help other people. If
anything helping other people became my salvation and my sanity. So when I ran
across this contest I couldn t help but think how incredibly well timed it was as
Virginia is exactly the place I had planned on moving back to in 2.5 years when the
love of my life s military career finally came to a close. My mind immediately began
racing with thoughts of all the

Seeing Through Our Tongue: The Liminal Nature Of Language
Introduction
One universal aspect of the human condition is communication. Finding some way to
convey the abstract concepts of our minds in such a way they can be understood by
others is a fundamental necessity of being a human in culture as we understand it. It
is with this understanding that the question has been asked; if language is the medium
through which our perceptions are channeled, how much are our perceptions
distorted by language? How much is our language distorted by our perceptions? Is
this relationship something that could be manipulated, and how effective would it
be? Thankfully, these are questions that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On The Subject Of Language And Social Change
This paragraph is largely going to be pulling from examples, like Does Gender Fair
Language Pay Off and Within or Outside to showcase both intentional and
subconscious decisions various cultures and languages have taken towards proposed
changes.
This paragraph deals mostly with Within or Outside. In it, most of the discussion is
used to show that language and culture naturally evolve both with each other and
independently of each other. Using a clever segue that I m sure I ll come up with, it
rounds out by suggesting that intentional change would be worth exploring.
Which leads to this paragraph, discussing mostly existing attempts towards changing
languages in contemporary settings, and analyzing the cause, effects, and progression
gained by these methods.

The First Indochina War took place in the Asian region of Indochina, containing the
nations of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. French, the long time colonial ruler of
Indochina was being fought by these nations. The French started their colonial rule
over Indochina in 1859, and had control by 1885. During World War II, Vietnam
resisted French rule, and as the World War came to an end, Japan defeated the French
taking control of Vietnam. Again during 1945, the Vietnamese fought against
Japanese rule and were victorious only to be reoccupied by France soon after. But

Baron Montesquieu Influence On The Triangular Trade
What I learned was why we deprecated from England. The U.S. Decided to break
away from England to have free rule from the king and church, also they didn t like
the unfair taxes placed on goods which is also part of the reason for the Boston tea
party. England also placed unfair taxes on tea and we revolted. Next thing I learned
was about the Atlantic slave trade. It took place across the Atlantic Ocean from the
16th through the 19th centuries. The vast majority of those enslaved that were
transported to the new world, many of the triangular trade routes and its middle
passage were west Africans from the central and Western European slave and

He was a highly influential political thinker during the age of enlightenment.
Through his education and travels he became a sharp social commentator and
political thinker who gained the respect of his fellow philosophers with his
masterwork the spirit of laws , which went on to have a major influence on english
and american government. In 1721, Montesquieu gained fame with the
publication of the persian letters, a biting satire of religions monarchies and the
rich french under the guise of an novel. He moved to paris and continued to
publish switching to political treaties such as an consideration of the fall of rome.
Montesquieu died of a fever in paris on February 10, 1755. Although he had
fathered two daughters and a son with his wife, he had been devoted to his work.
He was regarded as genial and generous, and had a wide and international circle of
admirers, from scottish philosopher david hume to hegel to future american
president james madison. I also learned about Nat Turner. Nat Turner was born in
Southampton County, Virginia on October 2, 1800. he died in Jerusalem, Virginia
on November 11, 1831. Nat Turner became a preacher who claimed to be chosen
by god to lead the slaves from bondage. On august 21, 1831, he had a led a violent
to resurrection. The incident ended the emancipation movement in that region and
led to even harsher laws against slaves. While turner hid away, white mobs took
their revenge on the blacks of southampton county. Estimates range from
approximately 100 to 200 african americans were killed after the rebellion. Turner
was eventually captured on october 30, 1831. he was represented by lawyer Thomas
R. Gray, who wrote down turner s confession. Turner pled not guilty during his trial,
believing that his rebellion was the work of god. He was sentenced to death by
hanging, and this sentence
Claudia Frieda
In the Autumn chapter, starting on page seventeen, Claudia describes her hatred
for Shirley Temple. She continues to describes her hatred for a white babydoll,
and explains how she dismembered the doll. This turns gruesome when Claudia
describes not only taking apart of her white babydoll, but also taking apart little
white girls. However Claudia is not an evil character, in the book she represents
innocence, and the reader gets to see the book through that innocent lens through
her perspective. How can Morrison have a character that describes such gruesome
acts, like squeezing the eyeballs of little white girls, and still be lovable and
innocent? What is Morrison saying about jealousy and rage, directed not at a
specific person, but more at the concept of whiteness? Claudia then goes on to
reflect that she was shameful of her violence, motivated by this shame she hid her
hatred in love, thus bringing her one step closer to loving Shirley Temple. Can a
shame for such an intense hatred for something really move someone to love that
hated thing? Is that true in other areas of supremacy, including gender and class?
What does this say about the socialization of young girls and beauty? More
specifically is the hatred Claudia possess towards whiteness stemmed from... Show

How has this changed over the years? Speaking in terms of a traditional family how
has a change of traditional gender roles in a household affected this? How has the

Emphasizing Too Much on the SAT
I was in trouble. The first analogies were pretty straightforward along the lines of
leopard is to spotted as zebra is too striped but now I was in the tall weeds of
nuance. Kangaroo is to marsupial as the giant squid is to I don t know, maybe D)
cephalopod? (Boylan). As we all know, tests vary from straightforward, to mildly
difficult, to just unforgiving and torture for the mind, but this is life and whether
people like it or not, everybody has to take a test in their academic career. In
specific, the quote at the start of the paragraph shows the author of Save Us From the
SAT, explaining to the reader her struggles when she took the SAT or Scholastic
Assessment Test. But not to worry because College Boardannounced in late March
that they will be redesigning the SAT to make it, as they say, more high school
oriented. The way the SAT is being changed is by making the essay optional,
taking out the odd and unusual vocabulary words and replacing them with words
that people use day to day life, allowing it to be taken on a computer, and most
importantly not penalizing the test taker for getting the wrong answer. This all
sounds fantastic, but there is one problem and that is that the new exam will be put
into use in 2016. That is my problem, why would they make people suffer and
make the test only available until 2016. In my opinion, College Board should speed
up the process of making the new SAT in order for other people to benefit from the
changes. Many people

The State Of Student Ministries Essay
The State of Student Ministries I spend a good deal of my time in research. It s
something I feel is important for a person in my position. Some of this research
involves an in depth of scripture for an upcoming lesson. However, a lot of my
research goes into understanding contexts. In Bible College, the first thing they
drilled into our minds was context determines meaning. In the Bible, this means
historical background, the context of the author, the context of the audience, how the
passage relates to other passages around it, how it related to the book it was in, how
it related to scripture as a whole, among other significant trends to analyze. In student
ministry, this means understanding contexts such as, age, developmental stages,
trends in culture, trends in our church, history of our church, trends in the broader
Church, history or the broader Church, language barriers (slang), friendships, family
and parents, technology, the list could really go on and on. Therefore, I study these
things to have a thriving ministry at First Presbyterian Church. I read books,
countless articles, and every two years I go to a National Youth Workers Convention
to be with thousands of other leaders who are going through similar situations within
their ministry. I think we have a tendency to look outward and play a compare game
when analyzing ourselves. This isn t just in church, but in our personal lives as well.
It s why we want the latest and greatest clothing style, vehicle,
Plural-Elitism In American Politics
American Politics is said to be the biggest, most intricate machine the world has
ever seen. It is dirty and grinding constantly, in order to get things done. With this,
many people would agree. As with any machine, there has to be a driving factor,
something that pushes forward everything else; in a car, it is an engine, in a body, it
is the heart. The driving force for American politics, however, is an issue in which
many people do not agree. In this paper, Pluralism, Elitism, and Plural Elitism will be
explored as the three major viewpoints on this subject. Pluralism stems from the idea
that a multitude of groups, not the people as a whole, govern the United States
(Udel.edu). These groups include labor unions, civil rights activists, lobbyists, and
environmentalists, as well as many others. Pluralists argue that Public policy is the
outcome of group forces pushing against one another (Barry 4). Some would say that
a Pluralist governmentis undemocratic, seeing as the power does not lie with
individuals, and therefore should not become the American way of life. Pluralists
themselves, however, would argue that in fact a democratic government is
undesirable, seeing as most everyday people are not educated on politics, and
therefore really should not have much of an influence on political decisions.
Furthermore, they would argue that Pluralism is... Show more content on

This conjoined perspective includes the idea that there is an elite hierarchy at play,
but groups, such as civil rights activists and environmentalists, also have a strong
influence on what gets decided in public policy. Afterall, there really are hardly any
machines out there that run strictly from one source; the body has the heart, but also
needs the brain, the car has the engine, but couldn t go anywhere without
The Dangers Of Plastics And Its Effects Of Plastics
The destruction of the earth is becoming a more and more prevalent issue. Between
water, air, radioactive, and even light pollution, the more advanced humans become,
the worse we seem to treat our planet. One of the most commonly used products that
contributes greatly to the mistreatment of our earth is plastic. Most plastics are made
from petroleum or natural gas; non renewable resources extracted and processed
using energy intensive techniques that destroy fragile ecosystems. The manufacture
of plastic, as well as its destruction by incineration, pollutes air, land and water, and
exposes workers to toxic chemicals, including carcinogens. It s not news that plastic
is harmful to the environment, but how much damage is it really causing? Plastic is
everywhere around us and a huge part of our lives. Chemicals added to plastics are
absorbed by human bodies. Some of these chemicals have been found to alter
hormones or have other potential human health effects. Along with effects on
humans, plastic also very negatively affects wildlife. Plastic debris, laced with the
same chemicals that affect humans, are regularly ingested by marine animals. When
plastic is disposed of in landfills the chemicals spread underground and eventually
find their way into our water sources. One of the most ubiquitous and long lasting
recent changes to the surface of our planet is the accumulation and fragmentation of
plastics, wrote David Barnes, a lead author and researcher for the British Antarctic
Survey. Considering how detrimental plastic is to our world, one would expect that
an alternative material would be utilized, and we could be one step closer to having a
cleaner earth. But unfortunately, like everything else in this world, it s all about
money. Many alternative materials that could replace plastic would be more
expensive to produce and utilize, which isn t worth it for plastic producers. Despite
there being many more expensive replacements, there is one substitute that is
efficient, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly: industrial hempplastic.

Confederate Soldiers Sacrifice
I hesitate to speak of our sustaining power the Confederate soldiers had because it
has been so often and so much more beautifully spoken of than I can possibly do it.
I mean of course the inspiration given by the grand and noble women of our dear
Southland. The men were Patriots generally the women universally. In a thousand
ways they contributed to the carrying out of the war. No undertaking was too great
and no sacrifice too much for them. The suffering of the men in the ranks was not
comparable to that at home. With them there was a lack of that social companionship
that so buoyed up the soldier, but alone they suffered, prayed and toiled, frequently
supporting themselves and their families, and yet able to send to Father, Husband, or

Pisces is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac, and is represented by a pair of fish,
a dualistic symbol that represents the two worlds which their internal battle
represents; the physical and the spiritual. Being the final sign Pisces is the most
highly evolved, and is highly orientated towards their inner journey of peace and
actualization. Pisces is the sign of self sacrifice, and they will help others at all costs.
Pisces Personality Overview
Pisces, you are notoriously difficult to define, and your personality cannot be
pinned down. You do after all have a tendency to become your environment, and
you absorb the emotions of those around you like a sponge. The border of your
self, the world, the spirit world, and the world of others, is highly blurred, and you
feel and sometimes perceive the underlying fabric that connects all of life. You are,

comfortable and open environment for your friends. You will likely be the go to

generosity makes you a great friend. The level of emotional openness you exhibit

Anecdotes And Theme Of Ethos In The PSA
In our PSA my group and I used anecdotes and theme to show ethos in order to
strengthen our message, and to persuade viewers to do their homework.
The PSA uses multiple short anecdotes to demonstrate what happens if you do your
homework or what happens if you don t do your homework. The anecdotes start with
showing people who don t do their homework and what happens to them after words.
This uses ethos to try and make people feel morally inclined to do their homework.
After those videos the PSA shows different facts about what might happen if you
don t do your homework. These facts utilize logos as we try and use logic to
convince the viewer that they need to do their homework. The repetition between
what happens if you do your homework and

  • 2. The Conduct of British Generals in World War One Essay The Conduct of British Generals in World War One In 1914 the First World War, or the Great War, broke out in Europe. It involved the two main alliances of Europe at the time; one alliance was the triple entente with Germany, Austro Hungary and Serbia, the other alliance, the triple alliances, had Britain, France and Russia creating a ring of steel around Germany. This war of attrition was to take the lives of 8.5 million combatants and would change the way warfare was conducted and portrayed forever, it would involve 65 million men from 30 countries around the globe and Russia and America would emerge as the two great superpowers of the 20th century. After the war there would be great criticism of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the battle of Verdun British artillery started to fire upon British infantry during an attack causing heavy casualties. These were all seen as foolish acts and it was shown, and still is shown, in various pieces of literature. In source C it shows the enormity of the killing at the Somme and the differences in losses between the two sides. It was written by John keegan, who is a qualified historian and there shouldn t be any reason for bias on his part and in this source he does contain many facts to support his views so it is quite a reliable source. On the other hand the generals could not have been tactically inept and blind to the minimal gains that some attacks were having because as the war progressed new tactics and innovative ways of attacking were brought to the front line and used with great effect. Ideas like the rolling barrage where men would creep behind shells that were continually firing while inching forward, another idea was night attacks where men would attack enemy positions
  • 3. Progress Monitoring Assessment For the progress monitoring assignment, I first reviewed the students assessments data provide for the assignment, and using the provided decision tree guide I determined the students levels based on the FSP (RC, Maze, and WA) scores. Once I had determined their level or box results I filled the decision tree form in by order of the box results column. I chose to order the results by that column to help make choosing student groups easier. Once all the students data was filled in the next step I took was to fill in the suggested curriculum and suggested strategies for each student based on their maze and word analysis assessment results. Once I had all that information entered I decided to create an extra column on the decision tree form... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All groups would meet three times a week, so we would meet every other day to work on the required skills. I broke my level one students up into two different groups. Group 1 consists of student 1, student 6, student 15, student 20, and student 23 while group 2 consists of student 9, student 17, student 22, and student 25. All of group 1 students scored a ninety percentile or higher in reading comprehension (RC) so I put these students together so I can provide them with more challenging strategies and higher level skilled work in order to help them continue to grow academically. Some of the strategies I would use with these students during small group instruction would be using context clues to, learning new affixes, and root words to help students read and understand unfamiliar words. I would also work with these students on different grade appropriate text structures, text features, summarizing, and main idea to build reading comprehension skills. While my group 2 students are still overall, high leveled students they scored below the ninetieth percentile but above the eighty fourth percentile. These students would also receive many of the same instructional strategies that would challenge them, but also help build upon their existing skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and reasoning
  • 4. Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim... In today s world we question the problem of free will and it s understanding. Is the nature of humanity characterized by the ability to chose for oneself or through our understanding of physical laws. Is there any room for individuality when and if the world operates under these fundamental laws or whether God has already created a path for us to follow? When this question comes up people tend to want to forget about it. Kurt Vonnegutabjects this illusion of free will in his novel by his use in characters and having free will. In Slaughterhouse five, Billy Pilgrim question the Tralfamadorians, Why me? Their response is simply, ...There is no why. The Tralfamodorians exemplify the role of the other that marks free will as a distinctly a human characteristic. Billy use s this as a means to cope with the reality that pain and suffering is a guarantee. Vonnegut repetition of the phrase So it goes , supports that free will is question with no answer and desensitizes the major suffering and deaths throughout the novel. All of the events in his life were simply uncontrollable and he was able to travel throughout various events in his life easily. In Chapter One the narrator is speaking with movie maker, Harrison Starr, about the book he plans to write about World War II. Starr, compares writing an anti war book to writing an anti glacier book. Harrison stated, ...Why don t you write an anti glacier book instead? This comparison is stating that we do not have free
  • 5. Eye Of The Beholder Striving for the Unachievable Beauty is an imaginary construct created by society. People in society feel a need to be considered beautiful because they want to fit in, and be admired. The importance of beauty in society is prominently portrayed in the Twilight Zone series, episode Eye of the Beholder (1960). This episode tells the tale of a young woman, Janet, who strives to be accepted in her society because she looks different than others. Throughout the episode, Janet is trying to change herself to be accepted by others, yet she is not able to truly conform to the look of her society. The episode works to show how in society, the gaze of others is so deeply ingrained in people that it causes them to live for others. This episode begins by explaining Janet s problem: she is ugly and wants to become beautiful. When Janet is first introduced, she is under a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He comes in to tell her that he will take off the bandages soon, and he hopes that the surgery worked. He too is viewing her under the gaze of others and viewing her as different because that is how society views her. Although he has the freedom to choose how he views her, he lives in bad faith because he is subjective to society. When the doctor leaves the room to talk to the nurse, he realizes that he feels bad for her. He wants her to be accepted in society, but not how she currently looks. Besides for demonstrating the gaze of others, he also is living for others by listening to the views of his society that he appears to disagree with. When he goes back into the room to take off her bandages, the leader is on the television screen. He talks about how people need to conform. The leader wants all his citizens to live in bad faith by living how he wants them to live. Not only is Janet subjected to this gaze, but this gaze is given because of people s need to conform and live how others want them to

Their voices together would bring about change through toil and determination. However, what if the world couldn t hear your voice or understand your language? The degree of effort and work for such a group of people would seem futile. For the students of Gallaudet University, the barrier between the hearing world and the Deaf world could not have stopped them. This fact only fueled the fire when candidate was chosen. More or less sending a message into the deaf community that deaf people still seemed to be less capable or qualified as a hearing person. Yet, although DPN was a movement for equality and many other issues, it was a milestone in the Deaf Culture. Deaf President Now showed the world that deaf people and the deaf world could be united around a common issues and fight. Especially one of this importance. Gallaudet University represents the pinnacle of education for deaf people, not only in the United States but throughout the world. (Van Cleve p.172) Would it not be fitting for a university founded within deaf culture, be headed by one who was a part of that culture? Obviously there is no question. All throughout the entire Deaf President Now movement, the message was clear that deaf people have the self determination and capability as any other hearing person. To watch hundreds of deaf students and supports protest from Gallaudet University to our nation s capital, using American Sign Language as their only medium of communication. Essay on The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt We have all heard the excuses before, It s uncomfortable, I m only going around the corner , I d rather be thrown out of a car than be stuck in a seatbelt, and my favorite, I m a good driver I don t need to wear one. Well you may be a good driver but there are situations beyond your control such as bad weather, road conditions and not to mention other drivers that can affect your safety. Seat belts can mean the difference between life and death in an auto accident. Wearing a seat beltevery time you enter a vehicle is not only the smart thing to do it is the right thing because it saves lives, it s the law and it will save you money. Car accidents are the leading cause of death for people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the people who use the excuse that They are just going around the corner should realize that 80% of traffic fatalities occur within a 25 mile radius of your home and at a speed of 40 miles an hour. Buckling up to drive around the block is probably the best time to do so. Everyone knows that car crashes can cause death; yet because people do not buckle up all the time thousands of people still die in traffic crashes yearly. Seatbelts can save your life in a crash and can reduce your risk of a serious injury. Seat belts keep drivers and passengers from being ejected through windows or doors. This is important because your chances of being killed are five times greater if you are thrown from the vehicle. Thousands of people who die in car crashes each year might still be alive today if they had only been wearing their seat belts. Wearing a seat belt isn t just a good idea; it s the law and many states conduct heightened enforcement of their seat belt laws. Forty nine states, all except New Hampshire have mandatory safety belt laws. In most states, these laws cover front seat occupants only, although belt laws in 16 jurisdictions including New York cover all rear seat occupants also. New York is one of 19 jurisdictions where belt use laws are standard, or primary, meaning police may stop vehicles solely for belt law violations. In 17 states including New York the safety belt defense is allowed, meaning damages collected by someone in a crash may be reduced
  • 9. Management Theories During The Industrial Revolution During the industrial revolution, a number of management theories were introduced which have helped contribute to our understanding of the structure of management in the current business setting. These many different theories have assisted managers in conceptualising new ways of the organisation and managementof their workplace. Several theories have influenced and contributed to today s modern management theories, these include the Scientific Management Theory, which was introduced by Frederick Taylor and the Human Relations Movement developed by Elton Mayo and his work on the Hawthorne studies. Both of these theories tried to introduce the best way possible to achieve maximum productivity within the work place. This essay will discuss the contributions of these theories in the development of the modern management theory, and in particular, how these past theories have contributed to the development of the contingency theory, and two separate approaches to modern management, in the quantitative and behavioural approach. Scientific management Fredrick Taylor Several modern management theories have been shown to have their roots stemming from the ideologies of the scientific management theory. The basic principles of scientific management include standardised work activity based on measurement and formulae, workers are matched to tasks, coordination of activities in order to execute a number of related tasks and separation of planning and execution with the aim of maximum output. (4) The scientific management theory explores the idea that managers should manage and the workers should work. The industrial revolution era brought the need to bring about an increase in the effective rate of output and productivity and that led to the introduction of the scientific management theory by Frederick W. Taylor. Taylor was an engineer interested in efficiencies through work measurement and coordination of tasks and focused on the problems of dividing up labour tasks. He believed that the most efficient methods for completing a task and for the selection, development and motivation of employees could be scientifically determined, Taylor concluded that there was one best way to achieve things (4). Taylor had four
  • 10. A Research On Meadow Hills Hospital Meadow Hills Hospital is a two hundred bed hospital with a large Medical Staff that serves a population of three hundred thousand. It is one of four similar hospitals in the region. They do not currently have an EHR, but they re financial systems are well developed. They have a good amount of money in reserve to spend on any solution they feel is needed. Historically, their IT function has reported up through the Chief Financial Officer. This has led to their financial systems being well developed. But, their Clinical systems are significantly less developed. Clinicians have been ok with this arrangement. Not having more advanced clinical systems has allowed them to develop and maintain processes that they are comfortable with. This is a comfort for the clinicians, but is likely costing the organization money as records are paper based, not electronic. Also, as they have no CPOE installed, they are not performing the safety checks, such as drug interaction that can come with those systems. This is placing an unnecessary risk on patients. Developing an IT Strategy for Meadow Hills Hospitalwould likely revolve around bolstering the clinical side of IT. An IT Strategy would assist the organization in knowing how and where to invest the money stored in their reserves. This can also ensure that their IT goals are in line with their overall organization goals. As they are currently organized, IT reports up to the CFO. This is a formula to ensure that IT goals

They eventually control the trading s /behavior and negotiations of businesses. It manages the conveys and/or the selling of private property, in other terms personal property. UCC doesn t state the trading in real property. Well overall, the Uniform Commercial Codeinstitutionalizes business laws within the United Statesof America. Along with that, it also looks for stability in the states within the country, USA. Also, there are types of contracts, where the Uniform Commercial Code needs to be applied. Some contracts are the exchange of goods, leases, bank advance payments, warehouse receipts, and investment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was brought up, because there was an actual need in the United States to advance interstate transactions. As of now all the 50 states in the United States have adopted, the Uniform Commercial Code, but each state has like their own look towards it, meaning having different variations with the code. The Uniform Commercial Code was most likely establishing due to two main reasons. Frist, it was not easy for the business people to negotiate with other business people in different states. So, they had to make it easier for them to do this process, so they develop the code. Also, because the lawful and contractual essentials of managing businesses was not well organized at all. It is basically just used if most states take it into account, that is why all 50 states have adopted it already, and put it in use. Now Article 1 from the Uniform Commercial Code is General Provisions. Well the scope of Article 1 is that it pertains to a sale to the length that it is regulated by a different article. It states that it is there to expand, clarify, and to update the laws that regulate the commercial sales, to keep allowing the growth of the commercial practices directly thorough the acceptance of the parties. Overall, Article 1 just provides clarity and presentation, where the lack of clash presentations, add as original acts covering sales and affairs, or else covered under a different article of the Uniform Commercial Code. • 12. Escapism in Children s Literature Children s literature can take many forms, from far fetching science fiction to spell binding who done it mysteries. One of the most popular ideas presented in these various forms is that of escapism. The characters in these stories explore quite complex social issues in ways that are less confrontational then realism. One might consider why escape is such a central theme; as a child there are numerous benefits to fantasy, it allows readers to experiment with different views of the world and takes hypothetical situations and invites them to make connections between this fictive scenario and their own reality. John Stephens an English professor at Macquarie University has said Fantasy writing operates through metaphor so that the unfamiliar is used to stand in for, or comment upon, the familiar. The use of metaphor in Fantasy makes it more open to different readings and meanings. Take J.M. Barrie s fantasy novel Alice s Adventures in Wonderland as an example. Barrie uses his story to transport Alice to an unknown world full of backwards words and talking animals. This allows Alice to escape the boredom of picture less books and adult conversations that were beginning to consume her. Similar in theory is Neil Gaiman s style of writing. Gaiman has produced a number of Victorian influenced fantasy novels for children, including Coraline. Coraline, like Alice centers on a young girl entering another world. Escape can be seem in many books for children but one story in

However, Sedaris has no desire to learn how to play guitar. His desire lies within singing jingles in the voice of Billie Holiday. John Brownwas a white abolitionist born in Connecticut who simply grew tired of the pacifist approach and took up arms with a few volunteers against slavery. Each of these companies see themselves as uniquely different, thus positioning themselves within a market place that has begun to become highly competitive in the Big Data age. I will provide an outline of the talking points that will be discussed for each company, starting with a brief description of the HadoopNoSQL open source databaseprogram, then I will discuss each company on the evaluation categories, and conclude with options for whether to move forward with either of these vendors. After the conclusion the reader will have the information on these vendors and the confidence to be able to decide on which choice would be best for the business. The Apache Hadoop open source program that provides a layer of software that can turn a grid of servers into a single unit has become known as NoSQL, or Not Only SQLdatabase. It provides a parallel storage and processing framework to run MapReduce, an application module that runs in two phases, first mapping data then reducing or transforming it. Using the HDFS or Hadoop Distributed File System, huge data sets are spread across servers, thus enabling programmers to write application modules and run them in parallel on the same cluster that stores the data, thus using the power and capacity of all the CPUs and hard drives. The advantage of Hadoop is that it processes large amounts of data in seconds, one

Studies have shown that approximately 20% of teens experience depression before they reach adulthood. According to the American Psychiatric Association, depression is a common and serious mental illness that negatively affects how you feel and act. While it is treatable through therapy or medication, only 1 in 3 teens who suffer from depression receive the treatment they need after their diagnosis. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young adults ages 15 to 24 in fact, studies have shown that someone takes their own life every 100 minutes. Young adults with enormous potential are taking their own lives at alarming rates, and these numbers may very well continue to increase unless we band together as a society to take action. In order to help teens with depression eliminate the risk of suicide, doctors must administer depression screenings, teachers must be trained on how to deal with and respond to mental illnesses, and parents must be educated on the signs and treatment of depression. One way to help teens with undiagnosed depression get help is to add screenings for depression to routine doctor checkups for patients ages 12 to 18. Depression screenings may be presented as a short questionnaire or a simple conversation with your doctor in which you are asked about your feelings and behaviors. The process usually takes only five

Critical Whiteness in Education Theoretical Framework of the Study As seen in the previous literature, empirical research in the last twenty years reveals the positive student outcomes associated to service learning. However, as Susan Jones (2002) argues, student s ability to actively participate in all aspects of their service learning experience depends on the intersection of the student s own background. . . , developmental readiness for such a learning experience, and the privileging conditions that put a college student in a community service organization as a volunteer in the first place (p. 13). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frankenberg (1993) describes Whiteness as multidimensional: First, whiteness is a location of structural advantage, of race privilege. Second, it is a standpoint and place from which white people look at ourselves, at others, and at society. Although Whiteness has intangible systems of oppression, inequality, and unearned advantage that are not necessary seen, heard, or felt; nonetheless, they reproduce and support the idea of White as the ultimate form of racial identity. Butin (2005) examines the dynamics of Whiteness, and the extent to which student resistance is conceptualized as occurring due to dominant students rejection of the exposure and analysis of these same hidden and/or explicit social, cultural, and academic structures and practices of the school that privilege and sustains White, middle class norms (p. 117). For the interdependence section, the idea of making emotional deposits as often as possible will allow one to feel better and work more efficiently with everyone s needs in mind. The major emotional deposits Covey talks about are; understanding the individual, attending to little things, keeping commitments, clarifying expectations, and showing personal integrity. With the help of these habits I feel like I could improve myself. Understanding someone is very important in everyday activities and especially in business situations. You need to understand who your consumer is as well as whom your co workers are. When you understand them on a deeper level you can relate better and be more productive. But not to worry because College Boardannounced in late March that they will be redesigning the SAT to make it, as they say, more high school oriented. The way the SAT is being changed is by making the essay optional, taking out the odd and unusual vocabulary words and replacing them with words that people use day to day life, allowing it to be taken on a computer, and most importantly not penalizing the test taker for getting the wrong answer. This all sounds fantastic, but there is one problem and that is that the new exam will be put into use in 2016. • 51. The State Of Student Ministries Essay The State of Student Ministries I spend a good deal of my time in research. It s something I feel is important for a person in my position. Some of this research involves an in depth of scripture for an upcoming lesson. However, a lot of my research goes into understanding contexts. In Bible College, the first thing they drilled into our minds was context determines meaning. In the Bible, this means historical background, the context of the author, the context of the audience, how the passage relates to other passages around it, how it related to the book it was in, how it related to scripture as a whole, among other significant trends to analyze. In student ministry, this means understanding contexts such as, age, developmental stages, trends in culture, trends in our church, history of our church, trends in the broader Church, history or the broader Church, language barriers (slang), friendships, family and parents, technology, the list could really go on and on. Therefore, I study these things to have a thriving ministry at First Presbyterian Church. I read books, countless articles, and every two years I go to a National Youth Workers Convention to be with thousands of other leaders who are going through similar situations within their ministry. I think we have a tendency to look outward and play a compare game when analyzing ourselves. This isn t just in church, but in our personal lives as well. It s why we want the latest and greatest clothing style, vehicle,

It is dirty and grinding constantly, in order to get things done. With this, many people would agree. As with any machine, there has to be a driving factor, something that pushes forward everything else; in a car, it is an engine, in a body, it is the heart. The driving force for American politics, however, is an issue in which many people do not agree. In this paper, Pluralism, Elitism, and Plural Elitism will be explored as the three major viewpoints on this subject. Pluralism stems from the idea that a multitude of groups, not the people as a whole, govern the United States (Udel.edu). These groups include labor unions, civil rights activists, lobbyists, and environmentalists, as well as many others. Pluralists argue that Public policy is the outcome of group forces pushing against one another (Barry 4). Some would say that a Pluralist governmentis undemocratic, seeing as the power does not lie with individuals, and therefore should not become the American way of life. Pluralists themselves, however, would argue that in fact a democratic government is undesirable, seeing as most everyday people are not educated on politics, and therefore really should not have much of an influence on political decisions. • 53. The Dangers Of Plastics And Its Effects Of Plastics The destruction of the earth is becoming a more and more prevalent issue. Between water, air, radioactive, and even light pollution, the more advanced humans become, the worse we seem to treat our planet. One of the most commonly used products that contributes greatly to the mistreatment of our earth is plastic. Most plastics are made from petroleum or natural gas; non renewable resources extracted and processed using energy intensive techniques that destroy fragile ecosystems. The manufacture of plastic, as well as its destruction by incineration, pollutes air, land and water, and exposes workers to toxic chemicals, including carcinogens. It s not news that plastic is harmful to the environment, but how much damage is it really causing? Plastic is everywhere around us and a huge part of our lives. Chemicals added to plastics are absorbed by human bodies. Some of these chemicals have been found to alter hormones or have other potential human health effects. Along with effects on humans, plastic also very negatively affects wildlife. Plastic debris, laced with the same chemicals that affect humans, are regularly ingested by marine animals. When plastic is disposed of in landfills the chemicals spread underground and eventually find their way into our water sources. One of the most ubiquitous and long lasting recent changes to the surface of our planet is the accumulation and fragmentation of plastics, wrote David Barnes, a lead author and researcher for the British Antarctic Survey. Considering how detrimental plastic is to our world, one would expect that an alternative material would be utilized, and we could be one step closer to having a cleaner earth. But unfortunately, like everything else in this world, it s all about money. Many alternative materials that could replace plastic would be more expensive to produce and utilize, which isn t worth it for plastic producers. Despite there being many more expensive replacements, there is one substitute that is efficient, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly: industrial hempplastic.
