The Word Plum And The Snowman By Wallace Stevens Perception
Poetry is subjected to many forms of interpretation as the meaning behind a piece deals a great deal
with one s own perception. When reading the two poems, The Word Plum by Helen Chasin and The
Snowman by Wallace Stevens perception is literally everything. The two poems though vastly
different in tone, style and topic share a commonality in the analyzation of existentialism and how the
passage of time plays a large role in somebody s outlook on life.
During a first read of Chasin s the word plum it becomes very apparent that more than just a plum is
being described here. The thinly veiled fruit references are both innuendos as well as interesting
commentary on the topic of the fleeting nature of pleasure in life. This underlying theme is hinted at
from even the poem s title in which Chasin talks about the word plum, but not an actual plum. Words
in language are used as something similar to a symbolic contract, meaning that not only do words
thrives on the idea of the object of discussion not being present but also the promise that the
representation of the object matches its word. So when Chasin describes the word plum as delicious,
she is really discussing the idea that the word plum because of the idea that is projected on it, is just as
delicious as the plum itself, which leads to an even deeper meaning of how in order for things to be
fleeting absence is just as valid as present. However a plum is not present so the poem relies heavily

The Reasons For The Outbreak Of The Second World War
The reasons for The Outbreak of The Second World War World War II lasted from 1939 1945, but
there were a number of circumstances leading up to the beginning of World War II. It involved the
majority of the nations in the world in which they formed two military alliances. Those alliances were
the allies and axis. In a state of total war, World War II was the most deadly war in history. This war
was caused there was a violation of the Treaty of Versailles from WWI. Then, there was the expansion
of the Japanese and fascism. Another reason for the outbreak of World War II was the expansion of
German Nazi s. Also, there was an act of appeasement and the onset of the Great Depression. Was
World War II inevitable? World War II was the second greatest war of the twentieth century. This was
appeared to be a continuous conflict between the thirty years war and fighting separation by an uneasy
truce to some... To others, that point of view distorts the situation by implying that the second war was
the inevitable result of the first and its inadequate peace treaties. This war was an outcome of the
previous war and the actions taken place to resolve the major issues. From all of these issues that were
from World War I it created a mass epidemic, out to destroy the nation. World War I and the Versailles
Treaty had only a marginal relationship to the world Depression of the 1930s. Adolf Hitler had a plan
to bring borders of Germany together to make one complete nation. Regardless,

The Theory of Reconsolidation
The Theory of Reconsolidation What is it and how can it impact on our lives?
Learning is a very important aspect of humans and creatures alike. Not only is it essential to the
survival and adaption into this world but it also defines who we are as individuals (Schiller et al, 2010;
Tronson Taylor, 2007). Memories from past experiences shape the people that we are today. A crucial
element to learning is memory, without it we would not be able to retain information. The process of
memory is very distinct and consists of several different stages: acquisition of memory, consolidation,
retrieval and then either reconsolidation or extinction (Debiec Ledoux, 2004; Diergaarde,
Schoffelmeer De Vries, 2008). As memory is such a critical aspect of learning, it is no wonder that its
distinct process has become the topic of much research in the neurobiological universe (Hupbach et al,
2007; Nader Hardt, 2009).
After a new memory is learnt, it enters the process of encoding during which the memory is labile and
capable of disruption until it becomes stabilised over a period of time (Nader Einarsson, 2010; Nader
et al, 2000). This process is called consolidation and originally consisted of the theory that once
stabilised in the brain, it remains fixed (Suzuki et al, 2004). This theory has been rebutted by the
acceptance of reconsolidation, a theory that imposes the ideology that when memories are retrieved,
through similar experiences (Lee, 2009), they become labile until,

Psychology Of A Serial Killer Essay
Most of us know that a serial killer is an individual who has murdered three or more people over a
period of more than a month (N/A, The Psychology of Serial Killers, 2014). But, what leads a person
to such acts of violence? Why does one human decide to inflict pain or torture on the other? These are
serious questions one must ask while studying the mind and actions of a serial killer. In many cases a
serial killer s motives are more psychological rather than material. Most killers don t even know their
victims and continue acts of violence to fill their addiction of killing. Everything that we know and
want to know about serial killers can not be explained or supported by biology. A person s
environment has equal importance in shaping how a person develops (N/A, The Psychology of Serial
Killers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking a closer look at the psychology and sociology at play behind a serial killer s mind gives us a
stronger understanding of the killers motives in the past, present, and future. The most common
mental disorder associated with serial killers is antisocial personality disorder, or ASPD. ASPD is a
chronic mental condition in which a person s ways of thinking, perceiving situations and relating to
others are dysfunctional and destructive. Typically having no regard to right and wrong and tend to
antagonize, manipulate or treat others either harshly or with callous indifference (Staff, N/A). A serial
killer is mainly motivated by the psychological gratification of the act while an average murder may
be committed for reasons such as revenge or robbery (N/A, Examination of the Psychology of Serial
Killers, 2015). To be diagnosed with ASPD, there can be no symptoms of any other mental disorders.
Taking a closer look at the case of Ted Bundy shows us how the disorder is defined.

Howard Zinn Argumentative Analysis
Howard Zinn argues that the state has three main purposes. They are to settle upper class disputes
peacefully, control lower class rebellion, and adopt policies that would further the long range stability
of the system .(Zinn Online). In the case of putting down and controlling a lower class rebellion is
very prevalent in the Anti Renters rebellion. After the economic crisis of 1837 many tenants, who
were now unemployed, owed money to the land lords who owned massive amounts of land. Many of
the tenants came together out of fear of being evicted, and were against the monopolization of the
land. When these poor tenants began to rebel, the state had to use force to suppress them, The
governor sent three hundred troops in, declaring a state of rebellion existed, and soon almost a

These laws were the perfect way for the state to make sure that the system is stable in the future. Just
recently on April 2nd, the Supreme Court of the United States turned down the overall cap on
monetary political donations. This is a classic case of the state adopting policies to ensure the stability
of the system. Coping the scheme of citizens united the Supreme Court in a 5 4 decision allows an
individual to donate as much money as they please to federal candidates in a two year election cycle.
Although federal law bans direct contributions to campaigners by corporations and business, super
pacs allow money to get to the politicians without direct contact. But this law still allows wealthy
individuals to support the candidates that will represent their needs and wants in the national
government. This creates an unfair system aimed at helping the elites because they will have more
money to donate therefore will have more of the campaigners attention. Justice Breyer realized the
importance of this decision being turned down and was recorded writing Where enough money calls
the tune, he wrote, the general public will not be heard. (New York Times).

Cesar Chavez Rhetorical Devices
Cesar Chavez started his excerpt by defining the power of nonviolence and how it portrayed
throughout Dr. King s life. While Caesars compares and contrast the power of nonviolence to violence
he use rhetorical device such repetition ,diction and tone. Which shows how Cesar Chavez literary
devices help him drive his argument to a nonviolent resistance.
Throughout the excerpt Chavez uses repetition to differences the we from the those he portrays the we

destruction. Moreover he uses these words to sort of guide them in the correct and moral path of

The Digital Music Industry Is Forever Evolving
The digital music industry is forever evolving. The problem of piracy has been created when people
began to illegally download music. Music should not be pirated. Piracy can be partially reduced by
using various advertising messages encouraging students not to pirate. Music producers should be a
given the right to their music. Producers and advertising agencies can work hand in hand to fight the
battle of music piracy.
The majority of college students may see music piracy as nothing but a way to retrieve the new music
they want to listen to but producers see it as much more than that. The problem with this is that
college students download an estimated 1 billion songs a year (317).Piracy is defined as the
unauthorized use of a copyrighted work of material. Producers work hard to produce their music. They
try and sell their music in order to make a living. Pirating is illegal, but in this digital age, there are so
many ways around it. Producers are having to work with advertising agencies to combat this illegal act
from taking place. A study done by three professors from Syracuse and Marquette University looked
at how this could take place. They came up with a creative way to solve this problem.
The study showed a way to prevent piracy and how to keep college students from illegally
downloading music. It is broken down in to the four phases of how the research was done. The
research was done over two years and backed up by many other sources. The structure of the paper is

Boys Don T Cry Film Techniques
Boys Don t Cry, a movie released in 1999, tells a story of events that took place in Nebraska during
1993. The movie chronicles the story of Teena Brandon, a 20 year old female to male transgendered
person, who moves from Lincoln to Falls City, Nebraska, a small, rural town. He moves to Falls City
to escape the sexual/gender oppression and violence he experienced in Lincoln. From his arrival in
Lincoln, Brandon dresses and socializes as a male. He makes a group of friends, girls and men. She
falls in love and is sexually intimate with one of the girls. When two of the men Brandon has also

The reality is that many places are just as bad including those semi rural areas where my Mother and
Father were born. However, people had fun there, including me on many occasions. When viewed
through a gendered lens, the people in Falls City Nebraska during 1993 as depicted in this movie were
no doubt unhappy. However, the unhappiness was not merely a function of where they lived, the lack
of opportunity and mobility, or even their unfortunate economic circumstances. People can live happy
lives while being burdened by all of the above. The message of the movie, as I see it, was that gender
stereotypes and prejudices can destroy many people whose mental, emotional and physical framework
doesn t fit the acceptable definitions of male and female . In the case of those who are forced to
repress their feelings and are somehow able to play by the gender rules , I find it difficult to believe
real happiness will be in the cards for them. And even those people who actually believe and/or accept
the rigid definitions of gender and appropriate behavior will live diminished lives that are less full,
less interesting and far less

MTSS Case Study
The lower leg consists of two bones: one large bone called the Tibia and one small bone called the
Fibula. The tibia is located on the anterior component of the leg and is the common place of pain for
individuals suffering Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome. Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS) also
referred to as Shin Splints (SS), is the most frequent overuse injury in the lower leg in endurance
running athletes and those of military personnel (Craig, 2008). MTSS, however, specifically refers to
the pain experienced on the posteromedial tibia border (inflammation of muscles, tendons, and bone
tissue around the tibia) while exercising. MTSS is the result of a repetitive action, especially in
individuals with overly pronated feet. Although, MTSS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the specific etiology of MTSS is indefinable, it is difficult for health care professionals in
making treatment conclusions. There are five chief etiological theories for MTTS described in current
literature: fascial traction, tight and/or fatigued plantar flexors, tibial bending, lack of shock
absorption, and excessive pronation.
Bouche and Johnson investigated fascial traction, by inserting strain gauges in cadavers to measure
tension on the tibial fascial attachment at the medial tibial crest. The authors concluded that fascial
tension may play a role in the pathomechanics of MTSS, and circumferential taping did not dampen
this tension (Craig, 2009).
Milgrom et al investigated tight/fatigued plantar flexors by inserting strain gauge staples into the
medial aspect of 4 subjects midtibial diaphysis, then measured gastrocnemius isokinetic torque before
and after vigorous physical activity. The authors found a significant correlation between
gastrocnemius fatigue and an increase in bone strain. They concluded that a fatigued state of the
gastrocnemius increases bone strains in the tibia well above (26% 29%) those in rested individuals

What Is The Effect Of The Cuban Missile Crisis
What happens when two powerful countries clash with each other? Usually in history one country
rises, while the other country falls. However, in this event in history it s different. Two completely
different people with different views on government can come to a common ground agreement. Not
everything leads to war.
The U.S. and the Soviet Union leaders engaged into a political and military stand off for thirteen days.
There was a fear that this would lead to a nuclear war. President Kennedy announces that U.S. spy
planes, U 2, discovered Soviet missiles bases in Cuba (History.com) Cuba is 90 miles away from the
United States. These missiles were medium range missiles that were capable of striking important
cities, including Washington, D.C. During the next few days, the crisis escalated to a breaking point of
nuclear war with two dominating powerful countries.

While I may be going out on a limb in this analysis, most often the binary life vs. lifestyle is code for

Ours are mockeries of real lives, thus requiring the supplemental style. Rogoff is not sure what a gay

Anorexia nervosa results from a complex interplay between biological, psychological, familial and

psychoanalytic lens. Many of Alice s needs were not met or interpreted correctly in early childhood by
her parents, particularly her mother causing Alice to develop ego deficiencies in identity and need for

The Self Essay
The Self Every situation that an individual is exposed to throughout life, helps mold our self. As
humans we have the ability to see ourselves from the outside, and all through life we try to see what
others see and our self revolves around the generalized other. We observe how others perceive us and
we make conclusions depending on our observations. How we act around others depends on the image
we feel they have towards us.

Through this looking glass self we develop a self concept. Depending on the observations we make

Safety and security should not be questions that linger in uncertainty. However, this is not the case for
many children across the globe. Thousands of children from all walks of life each day are faced with
unspeakable horror and must deal with the resulting trauma from then on. However, in children,
managing this trauma takes a different toll on the mind and heart than it does in adults. While the type

Cross the Atlantic, Canadian researchers Trocme, Fallon, MacLaurin, Vandna, Black, Fast, Felstiner,
Helie, Turcotte, Weightman, Douglas, and Holroyd (2008) denoted that the most common form of
childhood trauma is from abuse. 34% of children were being neglected by their caregivers and 20%
were being physically abused by caregivers (Trocme et al, 2008). As one can see, child trauma is a
major issue that is a part of multiple cultures regardless of the economic status of the country. Damage
done from trauma on the neurological functioning of the brain can be widespread, but can be found to
interfere with functioning of the hippocampus and the limbic system to a greater extent. Randall
(2011) explained that when a large amount of stress is continually placed on the brain from ongoing
trauma, cortisol, a fight or flight response chemical, can fail to stop firing when the stressor that

Nazi Germany, The Islamic State Of Iraq And Syria Essay
Imagine a country that is run by insane government officials with a military consisting of blood crazed
and psychopathic soldiers who conquer land by force and murders anyone that does not agree with
their values or beliefs. You might think that this thought could be the center of a suspenseful film, but
sadly this is a case that takes place right now in reality. One could compare these actions to Nazi
Germany, Fascist Italy, or the Soviet Union but those countries are long gone and are not committing
such crimes today. Right now, at this moment, today s Nazi Germany is the Islamic State of Iraq and
Syria. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, more commonly known as ISIS , is the country that is
committing war crimes, violating international law, and promotes rape and sexual slavery today at this
very moment. Therefore, I believe it is the United States duty and moral obligation to launch a full
scale military ground force to fight and eliminate all forces of the Islamic State. People in the United
States may wonder how the problems of genocide, rape, and sexual slavery in the Middle East
committed by the Islamic State affect them. The fact that citizens of the United States wonder how the
problems in the Middle East pertaining to the Islamic State affect them is a valid thought to ponder
about being that most of us have always lived in a safe, secure, and civilized society and environment
that the thought of any of problems such as genocide and sexual slavery happening

Norwich University s mens lacrosse program continues to grow each year. The amount of student
athletes that are recruited, accepted and retained becomes more and more and as that trend continues it
is vital to add increased funding into the program. The additional recruits and student athletes dictates

Loman American Dream
In Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, a man named Willy Loman struggles with the changing
American dynamic and his impending mental deterioration. Loman is a sixty three year old salesman
during the late 1940 s. He is the father of two sons, Biff and Happy, and the husband to Linda Loman.
During this time period, Americans were still adjusting to the post war era where two generations of
American ideas clashed, the traditional and modern American Dream. The old, traditional dream
included working one s way up to success through popularity and wealth. The new American Dream
does not focus on jobs such as a salesman but sees low skill jobs, like a carpenter, as successful and
making one accomplished in life. Willy Loman s forthcoming mental ... Show more content on

The two characters in the play that were wrong about why Willy failed are his wife, Linda Loman, and
his brother in law, Charley. Charley believed Willy was a real salesman, one who knew that if you can
not sell you can not succeed. He saw Loman falling apart and figured it was due to the new American
generation. If it was not for the changing times, Willy would not be confused and would have been
able to find, and achieve, his American Dream for both himself and his family. The article, The
Relationship between Willy and Linda , explains Loman and his wife s relationship. Linda is
completely devoted to her husband, yet Willy treats her with little respect. Loman often cut her off or
spoke down to his wife when she would try to help a situation. When Biff talks about seeing his old
boss for a job, Linda started to say, Oliver always thought the highest of him . . . (Miller 65) until
Willy cut in, Will you let me talk? (Miller 65). Even with the disrespect to Linda, she decides to blame
everyone else for her husband s failures and issues, not fully understanding that Willy s mental
deterioration is from his realization of not fulfilling an American Dream. Anytime Willy wants to
evaluate himself honestly, Linda just tells lies to release his tension and increase his incorrect views

Thomas Hobbes And John Locke Essay
Hobbes, Locke and the meaning of the English civil war Thomas Hobbes and john Locke are
considered some of the most influential people in Political thought. Both men lived during and around
the time of the English civil war. It can be assumed that this event had a profound effect on each man s
perspective and thinking. Locke and Hobbes do differ on their ideas and beliefs. Hobbes living
through the civil war was a supporter of an absolute monarchy. Locke believed in what can be seen as
a representative democracy. It s clear from this examination of facts that both the ideas Hobbes and
Locke were greatly influential. The ideas set forth by Locke certainly have had a profound influence
on later political thinkers. Locke s beliefs would profoundly shape the views of the American
founding fathers. It can be argued that the United States is a Lockean nation. Both Hobbes and Locke
were strong believers in property rights and believed that government must protect these rights. Using
the English war as a starting point, the beliefs and ideas of Lock and Hobbes can be examined. Some
questions to consider are challenging sovereign power, stability and justice and the effects of the
English civil war. By understanding these ideas, we can better appreciate these perspectives and
thoughts and a better understanding can be reached. The main event that these ideas draw their
influence from is the English Civil war. The English civil war happened between 1642 and 1651. The

How Human Memories Work
How Human Memories Work
Have you ever forgotten something that you wish you could remember? Or you re someone who puts
something down in a safe place where you will remember where it s at then forget where that safe
place was? Are you one of those people who everyone remembers something you said or did but you
have no idea what they are talking about because you can t seem to remember it ever happening. You
might just think that you have a bad memory but that isn t the case. There s actually no such thing as a
having a bad memory . In your brain you have about one billion neurons which lead into forming

When a person has something that may have cause physical symptoms or a traumatic event happen to
them in their life they can continue to re experience these things. Unfortunately, some people re
experience the memories of traumatizing events for years after the fact. It s common to experience a
biological response when these memories play out, including heart palpitations and shortness of
breath.(Cancio, 2011) When a person has a memory that they want to forget they are actually shutting
down the region of the brain that would bring it from coming into consciousness. But one side effect
would be that whatever was tied to the memory you forgot the traces of it you wouldn t be able to
remember as easily. The important things are encoded so they are read more easily and effectively
then things that you want to remember every once in awhile. After a person stops revisiting a memory
it becomes harder and harder for them to remember the little things of it. When someone forgets where
they put something it is simply because your brain was distracted while the encoding process should
have taken place. For example when someone had forgotten where they put their eyeglasses they may
have not forgotten where it was but they may have never actually stored the place of the glasses in
their memories. Emotional events are often remembered better because they have a greater

Schema Theory From The Realm Of Social Cognition
In answering the first question, I have proposed the concept of thematic perspectivization which rests
on the three constituent components of (a) perspectivizer, representing the author realized as the
topical Theme I ; (b) perspectivizee, denoting any other human participant again, topically thematic
that is being potentially perspectivized by the author; and (c) perspectivized, encoding any event,
action, or role perceived by the author or by the perspectivizee. All three components were argued to
correspond to certain types of schema whose relevant information has been linguistically cued within
the scope of the Rheme; and this is where the answer to the second question emerged in research. In
order to answer the second question, the present study has employed the schema theory from the realm
of social cognition, but of course without separating itself from the concept of thematic
perspectivization. Crucially, the three different types of schema, person, self , and role, were
theoretically and analytically presented to be compatible with the three components of thematic
perspectivization: perspectivizee, perspectivizer, and perspectivized, respectively. In the data analysis,
new information, appearing as part of Rheme structure, proved to linguistically mark or cue related
schemas; hence, the principle of meta schematic information can be said to be inseparable from
thematic perspectivization both in theory and in practice. Indeed, the information about the

Explain Why The English Should Not Be The Official Language
Do you think the English language will be the official language of the United States forever? In my
opinion, I do not think English will be the official language of the United States in the future. Many
people in the United States speak Spanish, so the US government cannot make English the only
official language. The English language should not be the official language of the United States for
three reasons: education, business, and health. First of all, English should not be the only official
language because a lot of people in the United States need to acquire skills and be able to exchange
knowledge and communicate effectively. Uniquely, the nation of the United States is formed of people
from different cultures and backgrounds, and hence one official language is not enough for people to
learn well. For instance, when you walk on the street and someone asks you where the bus stop is, you
need to answer him/her. If he/she speaks Spanish or Urdu and you only speak English, you may not
understand each other or you may even misunderstand each other negatively(which may have negative
consequences). Therefore, when people speak and understand more languages, they will be more
educated and better connected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Stephen Glass Film
Before watching the movie, I knew about the Stephen Glass case but I did not know detailed events
that led up to his Glass s case being exposed. In my opinion, the movie did a great job as far as
casting. The actors in the movie understood their roles and played it well although there were some
moments that could have been done differently. In my opinion, there were some parts in the film that
could have been dramatize and much more intense because the situation and seriousness of what was
occurring called for it.
To begin, the casting of the film was well thought out. The characters played their parts well
especially the main characters Stephen Glass played by Hayden Christensen, Chuck Lane played by
Peter Sarsgaard, and Caitlin Avey played by Chloe Sevigny. Christensen embodied Glass s persona so
well that it almost seemed like he was actually Glass. He was charming towards his coworkers and
persuasive as well. These characteristic of Glass was essential and needed to be seen ... Show more

The main problem I had with the film was the lack of intensity and seriousness when addressing Glass
about his false stories. For example, there was a scene where chuck took Glass to a building he made
up in one of his stories. In the moment Chuck asks Glass several times to confirm if the building was
real and Glass confirms that the building was just his imagination and creativity. In this particular
scene, I felt like Chuck should have been livid. Nevertheless, chuck did seem angry but not to the
extreme. Another scene that could have been exaggerated a bit more was when Chuck started to take
down all of the stories Glass wrote. At this point in the film, Chuck began to realize the abundance of
lies that was printed and published. If I was the head editor reading the lies published in my papers, I
would have been furious but Lane was calm and poised for the most part. He basically took down each

Effects Of Income Inequality In The 1920s
Even if the 1920 s seem affluent and prosperous on the surface, the realities of time contradicted such
notions; in fact, it can be clearly stated that this decade should not be judged as an era of wealth.
Inequality was rampant in society at this time, especially when it comes to stark income differences
between the upper, middle and lower classes. While it can be said that the upper classes, who make up
a mere 1% of the population enjoyed most of these materialistic luxuries, the vast majority of the
American population was barely getting by.
To start, a majority of the American populace was not earning enough money to situation their daring
lifestyles. Generally, it can be said that the jobs they held often had lots of work hours and ... Show

The 1920 s had a huge case of income inequality, and there was a drastic difference in how people
across the financial spectrum lived their lives. While some people could barely afford basic necessities
like food, medicine, shelter etc, this small subsection of the population lived extravagantly. They could
afford new cars, lavish balls and expensive restaurants, and could absentmindedly spend their money
anywhere they desire. To add to this, the rise in per capita income for top 1% of the population in 1920
1929 was 75% (a stark contrast to the fact that the per capita income for the rest of the country only
rose by 9%). Also, the top 1% make up 23.9% of the total income/cash flow in the country, which is
an extremely unproportional percentage for it to come from such a small portion of the entire country.
Since income inequality was so prevalent in this era, the supposed affluence of this era can t be fully
supported or justified. It is clear that the vast majority was just wasting away on their savings, and that
only a lucky few actually were able to afford all the diverse activities they were involved

The Protestant Reformation s Influence On The Religious World
It was a chilly morning on the 31st of October, 1517 in the German town of Wittenberg. A priest walks
with papers in hand to the church and, stepping up to the wooden door, nails the papers to the front of
the church, posted for the town to see. Martin Luther, not knowing what he had just started, walked
away from the church beginning what has come to be known as the Protestant Reformation. This
Reformation is often viewed as a religious movement that eventually came to affect the political and
social spheres as well; Martin Luther along with other Protestants had started a revolution. It is clear

The influence of Wycliffe, Luther and Calvin truly led to and care on the Reformation and shaped the

An Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
There is a problem in present day with regard; towards sexism. Sexism is the act of one gender putting
down the opposite gender as inferior. In this topic men putting down women as frail and weak minded.
In the early nineteenth century in the United States there are ideas of traditionalism that survive today.
Traditionalism is the old belief that all men, notably the oldest should be the head of the household
and that women should be homemakers. These ideas of women still being weak mentally have
brought great opposition to the idea of a female president. Traditionalist opposition has women body
shamed into the fixed standard of beauty being the skinny Caucasian blonde. People still look down
on women in troubled relationships as being their fault. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House puts into
criticism the problems brought by traditionalism though the story between Torvald and Nora. Where
Nora has to keep a secret how she saved her husband s life to save her marriage, because she fears a
woman helping a man would shame him into leaving her. Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short tale The
Yellow Wallpaper also criticizes traditionalism and argues the ideals of traditionalism encourage
sexism and is damaging towards women. The story is narrated by an unnamed protagonist going
through a slow descent into madness through her journal, which insinuates her husband, a physician is
encouraging her madness. What these two writings illustrate is that the old traditional beliefs are

Starship Troopers Racist Ideology
This essay will focus on the relationship between the film Starship Troopers (Verhoeven; 1997; USA)
and the parodic fascist ideology that is presented in the film. The film tells the story of an
interplanetary war between Earth and colonies of large insect like aliens in the 23rd century. In brief,
this essay will delve into some of the utilized stylistic and thematic traits included in the film such as
the obvious Nazi imagery, the powerful media presence that is dictated by the State and the deliberate
satire that is used to comment on current American concerns.

Heinlein (Crim, 2009 p. 18). The novel followed a similar pattern of all his juvenile novels aimed at
male adolescents, focusing on the science of science fiction whilst following youthful education
stories and supporting an optimistic vision of space conquest (Melin, 2010). Critics took issue with the
attitude that his young protagonists portrayed, calling Heinlein s political views strongly authoritarian
and fascist. On the other hand, Verhoeven s ideology is exactly the opposite. Rather than downplaying
these fascist elements of Heinlein s novel, Verhoeven decides to play them up, giving the film s
incipient Nazism an admiring positive spin (Cass, 1999, p. 56), hence mocking the very nature of
Heinlein s novel. In his adaptation, Verhoeven gets away with cheeky, sometimes savage, parody of
patriotism with campy enthusiasm, blatant and black humour and a cast of bugs, which steal the
picture under the noses of the scrubbed and brainwashed teenage troopers. Some critics who
understood the satirical point still worried that a younger audience would not that naïve viewers would

Batting in cricket is very similar to the style of batting used in baseball. Batsmen may hit the ball in
any direction and, after hitting the ball, can elect to run to the opposite crease. If the batsmen runs, the
partner runs for the crease the batter has just left. If both runners reach the opposite creases before
either of them is put out, a run is scored (Funk an d Wagnalls 1). Batsmen can be put out by the initial
bowler by knocking the bail off the wicket, or if a fielder catches the ball before the ball hits the
ground. This batsmen will continue to bat until he is put out. A notable feat is to score 100 runs, a
century, in one time at bat. The batsmen remain at the wicket reached during the last run, so a different
batsmen may face the bowler. A bowler is similar to the pitcher in a baseball game. Bowlers deliver
the ball towards the batter either underhand or overhand, without bending their arms. The bowlers
intent is to get the ball past the batter without him hitting it and knock off one of the bails of the
wicket by hitting it directly or hitting a stump, causing a bail to fall. When the bowler has delivered an
over of six balls, a second bowler bowls from the opposite bowling pitch. The wicketkeeper and the
fieldsman shift their positions to be ready for the new bowler amp;#8217;s delivery. After the second

Corporal Punishment Is Not Uncommon
Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. Since the
beginning of recorded history, parents have used corporal punishment as a form of discipline. Bible
verses such as this instructs us that spanking as a form of corrective behavior coincides with Christian
ideology. In the early stages of a child s life, before the ability to understand reasoning and
explanations, corporal punishment is necessary to correct undesirable behavior and promote
discipline. In recent years, this particular form of punishment has been banned in educational
institutions and usage shunned in homes in favor of new age discipline. As a result, school violence
has increased and school shootings have become an epidemic.
In today society, the above mentioned stance on corporal punishment is not uncommon. Many believe
that because it was used as a child rearing tool in their childhood that it is not only effective but
necessary in the rearing of obedient children. However, modern studies have consistently contradicted
this philosophy. It is now known that although corporal punishment demonstrates short term results it
ultimately leads to long term behavioral problems such as childhood aggression, poor parent/child
relationship, poor child mental health, and adult antisocial behavior.
Many proponents site the biblical passage spare the rod and spoil the child when defending the use of
corporal punishment. However, this passage is not derived from the

The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan,
but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge
antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class
of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial
agents, as shown in Figure 1.
Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad
spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are
enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives
carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference
between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane
making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are
treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections
deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011).
Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being
called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of
carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of

Pros And Cons Of Cochlear Implants
Cochlear Implant: Its Pros and Cons
Hearing loss is one of the most difficult disabilities you might face. It has many causes, such as birth
defect, loud noise, illness and accidents. Luckily, there are many ways to treat this condition, such as
hearing aids and devices, among which a very popular choice called cochlear implant.
A cochlear implant uses an electronic device that is surgically implanted within your ear, particularly
its canal. It is performed if you suffer from severe or worsening hearing loss. Essentially, the implant
replaces the function of your inner ear s hair cells, which help you register sound vibrations and when
damaged, are not able to function. While a cochlear implant will not give you back 100% of your
hearing ability, it is enough to allow you to hear and understand most sounds and communicate better
with other people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It poses some surgical risks and complications.
You should know that surgery, in and of itself, always runs risks, and if you have any medical
condition prior to it, it may make things more difficult healing may be hindered or complications may
arise. Considering that cochlear implants require a surgical insertion, you should always talk to your
physician regarding your current and past health concerns. Surgery can also lead to numbness of the
surgical site, muscle spasms, minor facial paralysis or occasional facial numbness.
Even older adults who receive the implant might have permanent or temporary electronic conversion
complications in the brain, which are not painful nonetheless. Electronic signals might not register
fully, causing some hearing and speech hindrances.
Moreover, some people will have surgical complications or are found to be not compatible with the
device. Their body might reject the implant, which could require further surgery or removal. If the
device fails, patients will experience around the same level of hearing loss or deafness before until
repair is done.

Aquatic Plants Survive Better By Themselves Or With The...
AQUATIC PLANT SURVIVAL Do aquatic plants survive better by themselves or with the presence
of fish? Introduction Aquatic plants are plants that, overtime, have adapted to living submerged in
water, whether it be saltwater or freshwater. These plants are also referred to as hydrophytes or
macrophytes. All aquatic plants can only grow in water or soil that is always saturated with water and
commonly associated with wetlands. (Cook, 1974) Some principal factors in controlling the
distribution of the plants include duration of flooding, depth, nutrients and salinity. Water dwelling
vascular plants can be divided into ferns or angiosperms (including both monocots and dicots).

Hot Sauces Affecting Earthworms
In this experiment, the scientists tested how different levels of hot sauce affect earthworms. The
scientists used 8 types of hot sauces with varying levels on the Scoville scale. The scientists did this
because extreme levels of hot sauce (such as the ones the scientists tested) can have harmful effects on
humans such as Gastritis. Gastritis can increase the risk of stomach cancer greatly. A human s stomach
and an earthworm s body both have mucus on them. This mucus is called mucosa. For the human s
stomach, the mucus protect the cell lining which is vital to human health. For the earthworm, the
mucus locks moisture inside the worm s body. After the scientists did the experiment they found out
that the hotter the hot sauce was the more damage it did to each ... Show more content on

Using varying hot sauce levels, they recorded the intensity levels of the reaction. They dropped each
type of the eight hot sauces onto each of the 8 worms. The purpose of the experiment was to find out
how hot sauce affects red worms. This was done to see if extreme hot sauces can cause damage to the
human stomach. The human stomach and the earthworm both have mucosa on them. Hot sauce can
cause Gastritis, which is inflammation to the stomach lining. Because hot sauce damages the human
stomach, the scientists hypothesized that the negative reaction the hot sauce level would increase as
the level of intensity increased. The hot sauce that was lowest on the scoville scale had a reaction of 4.
The next hot sauce had a reaction level of 7. The next level on the scoville scale had a reaction level of
7.5. Next on the scoville scale the reaction was 8. There was also a reaction of 8 for the next level on
the scoville scale. The highest hot sauce on the scoville scale had the highest reaction, an intense level
reaction that was 9.5. The independent variable was the level of hot sauce. The dependent variable
was the worm. The contaminant is the hot

  • 2. The Word Plum And The Snowman By Wallace Stevens Perception Poetry is subjected to many forms of interpretation as the meaning behind a piece deals a great deal with one s own perception. When reading the two poems, The Word Plum by Helen Chasin and The Snowman by Wallace Stevens perception is literally everything. The two poems though vastly different in tone, style and topic share a commonality in the analyzation of existentialism and how the passage of time plays a large role in somebody s outlook on life. During a first read of Chasin s the word plum it becomes very apparent that more than just a plum is being described here. The thinly veiled fruit references are both innuendos as well as interesting commentary on the topic of the fleeting nature of pleasure in life. This underlying theme is hinted at from even the poem s title in which Chasin talks about the word plum, but not an actual plum. Words in language are used as something similar to a symbolic contract, meaning that not only do words thrives on the idea of the object of discussion not being present but also the promise that the representation of the object matches its word. So when Chasin describes the word plum as delicious, she is really discussing the idea that the word plum because of the idea that is projected on it, is just as delicious as the plum itself, which leads to an even deeper meaning of how in order for things to be fleeting absence is just as valid as present. However a plum is not present so the poem relies heavily on the reader s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Theory of Reconsolidation The Theory of Reconsolidation What is it and how can it impact on our lives? Learning is a very important aspect of humans and creatures alike. Not only is it essential to the survival and adaption into this world but it also defines who we are as individuals (Schiller et al, 2010; Tronson Taylor, 2007). Memories from past experiences shape the people that we are today. A crucial element to learning is memory, without it we would not be able to retain information. The process of memory is very distinct and consists of several different stages: acquisition of memory, consolidation, retrieval and then either reconsolidation or extinction (Debiec Ledoux, 2004; Diergaarde, Schoffelmeer De Vries, 2008). As memory is such a critical aspect of learning, it is no wonder that its distinct process has become the topic of much research in the neurobiological universe (Hupbach et al, 2007; Nader Hardt, 2009). After a new memory is learnt, it enters the process of encoding during which the memory is labile and capable of disruption until it becomes stabilised over a period of time (Nader Einarsson, 2010; Nader et al, 2000). This process is called consolidation and originally consisted of the theory that once stabilised in the brain, it remains fixed (Suzuki et al, 2004). This theory has been rebutted by the acceptance of reconsolidation, a theory that imposes the ideology that when memories are retrieved, through similar experiences (Lee, 2009), they become labile until, ... • 6. Psychology Of A Serial Killer Essay Most of us know that a serial killer is an individual who has murdered three or more people over a period of more than a month (N/A, The Psychology of Serial Killers, 2014). But, what leads a person to such acts of violence? Why does one human decide to inflict pain or torture on the other? These are serious questions one must ask while studying the mind and actions of a serial killer. In many cases a serial killer s motives are more psychological rather than material. Most killers don t even know their victims and continue acts of violence to fill their addiction of killing. Typically having no regard to right and wrong and tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others either harshly or with callous indifference (Staff, N/A). A serial killer is mainly motivated by the psychological gratification of the act while an average murder may be committed for reasons such as revenge or robbery (N/A, Examination of the Psychology of Serial Killers, 2015). Music should not be pirated. Piracy can be partially reduced by using various advertising messages encouraging students not to pirate. Music producers should be a given the right to their music. Producers and advertising agencies can work hand in hand to fight the battle of music piracy. The majority of college students may see music piracy as nothing but a way to retrieve the new music they want to listen to but producers see it as much more than that. The problem with this is that college students download an estimated 1 billion songs a year (317).Piracy is defined as the unauthorized use of a copyrighted work of material. Producers work hard to produce their music. They try and sell their music in order to make a living. Pirating is illegal, but in this digital age, there are so many ways around it. Producers are having to work with advertising agencies to combat this illegal act from taking place. A study done by three professors from Syracuse and Marquette University looked at how this could take place. They came up with a creative way to solve this problem. However, the unhappiness was not merely a function of where they lived, the lack of opportunity and mobility, or even their unfortunate economic circumstances. People can live happy lives while being burdened by all of the above. The message of the movie, as I see it, was that gender stereotypes and prejudices can destroy many people whose mental, emotional and physical framework doesn t fit the acceptable definitions of male and female . Bouche and Johnson investigated fascial traction, by inserting strain gauges in cadavers to measure tension on the tibial fascial attachment at the medial tibial crest. The authors concluded that fascial tension may play a role in the pathomechanics of MTSS, and circumferential taping did not dampen this tension (Craig, 2009). Milgrom et al investigated tight/fatigued plantar flexors by inserting strain gauge staples into the medial aspect of 4 subjects midtibial diaphysis, then measured gastrocnemius isokinetic torque before and after vigorous physical activity. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, more commonly known as ISIS , is the country that is committing war crimes, violating international law, and promotes rape and sexual slavery today at this very moment. Therefore, I believe it is the United States duty and moral obligation to launch a full scale military ground force to fight and eliminate all forces of the Islamic State. People in the United States may wonder how the problems of genocide, rape, and sexual slavery in the Middle East committed by the Islamic State affect them. The fact that citizens of the United States wonder how the problems in the Middle East pertaining to the Islamic State affect them is a valid thought to ponder about being that most of us have always lived in a safe, secure, and civilized society and environment that the thought of any of problems such as genocide and sexual slavery happening ... Loman is a sixty three year old salesman during the late 1940 s. He is the father of two sons, Biff and Happy, and the husband to Linda Loman. During this time period, Americans were still adjusting to the post war era where two generations of American ideas clashed, the traditional and modern American Dream. The old, traditional dream included working one s way up to success through popularity and wealth. The new American Dream does not focus on jobs such as a salesman but sees low skill jobs, like a carpenter, as successful and making one accomplished in life. Willy Loman s forthcoming mental ... If it was not for the changing times, Willy would not be confused and would have been able to find, and achieve, his American Dream for both himself and his family. The article, The Relationship between Willy and Linda , explains Loman and his wife s relationship. Linda is completely devoted to her husband, yet Willy treats her with little respect. Both men lived during and around the time of the English civil war. It can be assumed that this event had a profound effect on each man s perspective and thinking. Locke and Hobbes do differ on their ideas and beliefs. Hobbes living through the civil war was a supporter of an absolute monarchy. Locke believed in what can be seen as a representative democracy. It s clear from this examination of facts that both the ideas Hobbes and Locke were greatly influential. The ideas set forth by Locke certainly have had a profound influence on later political thinkers. Locke s beliefs would profoundly shape the views of the American founding fathers. It can be argued that the United States is a Lockean nation. Both Hobbes and Locke were strong believers in property rights and believed that government must protect these rights. Using the English war as a starting point, the beliefs and ideas of Lock and Hobbes can be examined. Some questions to consider are challenging sovereign power, stability and justice and the effects of the English civil war. By understanding these ideas, we can better appreciate these perspectives and thoughts and a better understanding can be reached. The main event that these ideas draw their influence from is the English Civil war. The English civil war happened between 1642 and 1651. The two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Schema Theory From The Realm Of Social Cognition In answering the first question, I have proposed the concept of thematic perspectivization which rests on the three constituent components of (a) perspectivizer, representing the author realized as the topical Theme I ; (b) perspectivizee, denoting any other human participant again, topically thematic that is being potentially perspectivized by the author; and (c) perspectivized, encoding any event, action, or role perceived by the author or by the perspectivizee. All three components were argued to correspond to certain types of schema whose relevant information has been linguistically cued within the scope of the Rheme; and this is where the answer to the second question emerged in research. In order to answer the second question, the present study has employed the schema theory from the realm of social cognition, but of course without separating itself from the concept of thematic perspectivization. Crucially, the three different types of schema, person, self , and role, were theoretically and analytically presented to be compatible with the three components of thematic perspectivization: perspectivizee, perspectivizer, and perspectivized, respectively. In the data analysis, new information, appearing as part of Rheme structure, proved to linguistically mark or cue related schemas; hence, the principle of meta schematic information can be said to be inseparable from thematic perspectivization both in theory and in practice. In my opinion, I do not think English will be the official language of the United States in the future. Many people in the United States speak Spanish, so the US government cannot make English the only official language. The English language should not be the official language of the United States for three reasons: education, business, and health. First of all, English should not be the only official language because a lot of people in the United States need to acquire skills and be able to exchange knowledge and communicate effectively. Uniquely, the nation of the United States is formed of people from different cultures and backgrounds, and hence one official language is not enough for people to learn well. For instance, when you walk on the street and someone asks you where the bus stop is, you need to answer him/her. In my opinion, there were some parts in the film that could have been dramatize and much more intense because the situation and seriousness of what was occurring called for it. To begin, the casting of the film was well thought out. The characters played their parts well especially the main characters Stephen Glass played by Hayden Christensen, Chuck Lane played by Peter Sarsgaard, and Caitlin Avey played by Chloe Sevigny. In this topic men putting down women as frail and weak minded. In the early nineteenth century in the United States there are ideas of traditionalism that survive today. Traditionalism is the old belief that all men, notably the oldest should be the head of the household and that women should be homemakers. These ideas of women still being weak mentally have brought great opposition to the idea of a female president. Traditionalist opposition has women body shamed into the fixed standard of beauty being the skinny Caucasian blonde. People still look down on women in troubled relationships as being their fault. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House puts into criticism the problems brought by traditionalism though the story between Torvald and Nora. Where Nora has to keep a secret how she saved her husband s life to save her marriage, because she fears a woman helping a man would shame him into leaving her. Critics took issue with the attitude that his young protagonists portrayed, calling Heinlein s political views strongly authoritarian and fascist. On the other hand, Verhoeven s ideology is exactly the opposite. Rather than downplaying these fascist elements of Heinlein s novel, Verhoeven decides to play them up, giving the film s incipient Nazism an admiring positive spin (Cass, 1999, p. 56), hence mocking the very nature of Heinlein s novel. Since the beginning of recorded history, parents have used corporal punishment as a form of discipline. Bible verses such as this instructs us that spanking as a form of corrective behavior coincides with Christian ideology. In the early stages of a child s life, before the ability to understand reasoning and explanations, corporal punishment is necessary to correct undesirable behavior and promote discipline. In recent years, this particular form of punishment has been banned in educational institutions and usage shunned in homes in favor of new age discipline. As a result, school violence has increased and school shootings have become an epidemic. In today society, the above mentioned stance on corporal punishment is not uncommon. Many believe that because it was used as a child rearing tool in their childhood that it is not only effective but necessary in the rearing of obedient children. However, modern studies have consistently contradicted this philosophy. It is now known that although corporal punishment demonstrates short term results it ultimately leads to long term behavioral problems such as childhood aggression, poor parent/child relationship, poor child mental health, and adult antisocial behavior. The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases Introduction Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan, but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial agents, as shown in Figure 1. Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011). Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Pros And Cons Of Cochlear Implants Cochlear Implant: Its Pros and Cons Hearing loss is one of the most difficult disabilities you might face. It has many causes, such as birth defect, loud noise, illness and accidents. Luckily, there are many ways to treat this condition, such as hearing aids and devices, among which a very popular choice called cochlear implant. A cochlear implant uses an electronic device that is surgically implanted within your ear, particularly its canal. It is performed if you suffer from severe or worsening hearing loss. Essentially, the implant replaces the function of your inner ear s hair cells, which help you register sound vibrations and when damaged, are not able to function. While a cochlear implant will not give you back 100% of your hearing ability, it is enough to allow you to hear and understand most sounds and communicate better with other people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It poses some surgical risks and complications. You should know that surgery, in and of itself, always runs risks, and if you have any medical condition prior to it, it may make things more difficult healing may be hindered or complications may arise. Considering that cochlear implants require a surgical insertion, you should always talk to your physician regarding your current and past health concerns. Surgery can also lead to numbness of the surgical site, muscle spasms, minor facial paralysis or occasional facial numbness. Even older adults who receive the implant might have permanent or temporary electronic conversion complications in the brain, which are not painful nonetheless. Electronic signals might not register fully, causing some hearing and speech hindrances. Moreover, some people will have surgical complications or are found to be not compatible with the device. Their body might reject the implant, which could require further surgery or removal. If the device fails, patients will experience around the same level of hearing loss or deafness before until repair is done. 4. It requires ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Aquatic Plants Survive Better By Themselves Or With The... AQUATIC PLANT SURVIVAL Do aquatic plants survive better by themselves or with the presence of fish? Introduction Aquatic plants are plants that, overtime, have adapted to living submerged in water, whether it be saltwater or freshwater. These plants are also referred to as hydrophytes or macrophytes. All aquatic plants can only grow in water or soil that is always saturated with water and commonly associated with wetlands. (Cook, 1974) Some principal factors in controlling the distribution of the plants include duration of flooding, depth, nutrients and salinity. Water dwelling vascular plants can be divided into ferns or angiosperms (including both monocots and dicots). (Hutchison Edmondson, 1957) When the aquatic plants in a water way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hypothesis If the survival of aquatic plants is related to the contents of the water, then by having fish in with the aquatic plants will increase the plants chance of survival. Materials  3X 1000mL beakers  Water  6X guppies (fish)  6 aquatic plants (Elodea)  Fish tank light Chemicals No chemicals were used during this experiment. Risk Assessment See Appendices 1. Method 1. 6X guppies (fish) were purchased or collected from a local pond, lake or stream. 2. A bunch of Elodea was purchased from pet store as well. 3. 6X 1000mL beakers were thoroughly wash and outsides were dried. 4. 900mL of water was placed in each beaker. 5. Each strand of Elodea was washed in a beaker of clean water to prevent the contamination of each plant and its previous environment. 6. 1 strand was placed in each beaker in a spiral shape around the outside of the beaker. 7. Beakers were labelled 1 6. 8. Beakers 1 3 were filled with 2 guppies. 9. Beaker 4 6 were left with just Elodea. 10. Fish were feed every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday for ?? weeks. 11. Temperatures were taken every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for ?? weeks. 12. Beakers were air rated every Wednesday for ?? weeks. 13. After ?? weeks, the remaining fish and weeds was returned to the larger fish tank. 14. A starch test was completed on the leaves of each Elodea strand from each beaker. 15. • 45. Hot Sauces Affecting Earthworms In this experiment, the scientists tested how different levels of hot sauce affect earthworms. The scientists used 8 types of hot sauces with varying levels on the Scoville scale. The scientists did this because extreme levels of hot sauce (such as the ones the scientists tested) can have harmful effects on humans such as Gastritis. Gastritis can increase the risk of stomach cancer greatly. A human s stomach and an earthworm s body both have mucus on them. This mucus is called mucosa. For the human s stomach, the mucus protect the cell lining which is vital to human health. For the earthworm, the mucus locks moisture inside the worm s body. After the scientists did the experiment they found out that the hotter the hot sauce was the more damage it did to each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using varying hot sauce levels, they recorded the intensity levels of the reaction. They dropped each type of the eight hot sauces onto each of the 8 worms. The purpose of the experiment was to find out how hot sauce affects red worms. This was done to see if extreme hot sauces can cause damage to the human stomach. The human stomach and the earthworm both have mucosa on them. Hot sauce can cause Gastritis, which is inflammation to the stomach lining. Because hot sauce damages the human stomach, the scientists hypothesized that the negative reaction the hot sauce level would increase as the level of intensity increased. The hot sauce that was lowest on the scoville scale had a reaction of 4. The next hot sauce had a reaction level of 7. The next level on the scoville scale had a reaction level of 7.5. Next on the scoville scale the reaction was 8. There was also a reaction of 8 for the next level on the scoville scale. The highest hot sauce on the scoville scale had the highest reaction, an intense level reaction that was 9.5. The independent variable was the level of hot sauce. The dependent variable was the worm. The contaminant is the hot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
